Cruel because they'll most likely end up traumatised by the time they're a teenager.

Since we haven’t started the @jedijune prompts yet, I thought I’d just do a bit of a teaser for what I have planned.
A lot of my Jedi content this month will focus on their relationship with younglings, and there’s not better way to start things off than to remind you all that Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi actually spoils kids a lot and always has.

There’s just so much softness and love and fondness here, and it’s beautiful.
+ Bonus: Yes, he spoiled Anakin too, just a bit <3

There's a universe where Hondo runs into the Jedi younglings (Byph, Ganodi, Gungi, Katooni, Petro, and Zatt) during Order 66 and very suddenly ends up as a dad. He's as confused as everyone else as to how it happened.

We Were Just Kids
Your favorite clone wars younglings live on in my recently completed long fic (27 chapters), "We Were Just Kids."
Summary:
More than a decade has passed since her life was destroyed. So many years separate Katooni then from Katooni now that the Tholothian pirate is often convinced she hallucinated her time as a Jedi completely. The Force is a phantom to her, and certainly not her friend. She hunts for treasure, swindles credits, and keeps her head down around the Imperials.
But a supply run gone wrong lands Katooni face to face with a group of ghosts from her past, and suddenly the young pirate is confronted with a choice: keep running from the Empire, or finally draw her weapon.

I firmly believe that Katooni deserves some love! Like, have you seen ANY content about her lately??? I personally haven’t.

If the rest of the Kyber Six show up in The Bad Batch season 2 I just might be tempted to actually watch it again.

@maiaspen replied to your post: RULES: post the names of all the files in your WIP
Y?! 🤣😂 that is intriguing
Haha thank you - this fic didn't have a title; the "Y" stands for "Younglings." It's an idea I had of where Anakin is knighted and moves out of his and Obi-Wan's shared quarters in the Temple, and Obi-Wan is a little lonely and sad (in the children-moving-out-of-the-nest kind of way that all parents eventually go through). It gets worse when Ahsoka becomes Anakin's Padawan because Anakin is suddenly busy with a lot more responsibilities and they don't get to spend as much time together. Thus, Obi-Wan (as many grandparents do XD) takes up the hobby of assisting with the care of younglings/almost-Padawans, including helping them out with their studies.
Unfortunately, I couldnt get a decent excerpt out of this one, so instead have some headcanons my mom and I came up with while watching TCW to potentially go along with the idea:
In the youngling episodes (S5E6-E9, but specifically S5E8) after Ahsoka gets captured, the younglings are stranded on a ship and send out an SOS call. When Jedi General & Council Member Obi-Wan Kenobi picks up the call, literally everybody seems absolutely starstruck (1:01)--except for Katooni and Pedro.
Katooni smiles in greeting and gets immediately to business. She barely even takes a breath before she's giving him their coordinates.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Considering she is a goody two shoes (and we all know which other Jedi is a goody two shoes), my mom and I assume they are on regular speaking terms with each other. We headcanon that Obi-Wan has lunch with her every Tuesday or something lol and gives her advice on her studies. He does this with all the younglings who want to, but Katooni is definitely his favorite lol.
While Pedro is equally starstruck (which is to say not at all), he does not seem to share Katooni's amicable ease. In fact, Pedro makes what we feel is a disgusted face the second Obi-Wan's hologram figure pops up lmao:
Tumblr media
This is especially hilarious when paired with another scene... aka, the one where Pedro is boasting about his lightsaber and says, "With this lightsaber, I'm going to challenge Master Obi-Wan Kenobi to a duel and kill him General Grievous!!!!" (S5E7 at 5:48) (You cannot convince me and my mom that this was not an edit to the original script; don't even try.) When these two scenes are paired together, it paints (in our opinion) a picture of a youngling who has gotten into enormous trouble, who has been caught red-handed getting into this enormous trouble, and who blames no one other than Obi-Wan Kenobi for the consequences of being caught red-handed getting into this enormous trouble lmao.
Our Pedro-versus-Obi-Wan headcanon is actually a continuation of a previous headcanon which sprung from episode S2E1. In this episode, Ahsoka refused to retreat from a battle, despite Obi-Wan's insistent commands at 2:37 to 2:55 (he even gave Anakin hilariously dirty looks for all the trouble at 2:53). Afterwards, the scene cuts to the the Jedi Council, where Anakin and Ahsoka are standing in the middle, and the very first lines are (at 3:58):
Mace Windu, stern, no-nonsense tone: "Padawan Ahsoka. Do you feel that Master Kenobi's description of the incident is accurate?" Ahsoka, looks down, absolutely ashamed: "... Yes, my masters."
And my mom and I are like wtf was Obi-Wan's description of the incident lmfao.
It took us a while, but we have finessed our answer to this question to be that Obi-Wan probably is the type who pretends to be completely oblivious and accidental as he throws people under the bus (this is based on countless other scenes, which would make this post far too long, but see one example in S1E2 at 15:27 when he does so with Anakin).
So what my mom and I think he said in the Ahsoka situation was something like:
"Ahsoka was very courageous and initially stayed to fight. Perhaps she was only resistant to my commands because she lacked the bigger picture... although, hmm, I did try to explain it to her... Oh well, she's young and I'm sure she did her best."
Which would be so incredibly damning lmao. Everyone thinks the scathing comments are unintentional, but they are not. Obi-Wan knows exactly what he's doing. In fact, he and Mace Windu play the good-Jedi-bad-Jedi game with younglings and/or Padawans on the regular, and it is wildly effective.
In our headcanons, Pedro is only one of the many younglings to have fallen victim to Obi-Wan's kind and forgiving demeanor only to find themselves totally bamboozled in front of the council later. Like, secretly-conniving Obi-Wan 'incidentally' brought up the fact that he found Pedro sneaking around the lower Coruscanti levels--oh no, that wasn't against the rules, was it? Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry, I didn't realize--which resulted in Mace Windu assigning Pedro to babysit Grogu for several days. Pedro will never let this go. (Obi-Wan loves Pedro though, just as much as the other younglings! He's just worried about him and this is his way of protecting him.)
Sadly, these disciplinary tactics become less and less effective overtime... Mostly because Obi-Wan develops a reputation among the sneakier, brattier younglings who warn their younger kin:
"No no no, you can't trust him. You might think you can--he seems so sweet and forgiving and sort of naive--but you absolutely cannot, no matter what he says. Ever."
And meanwhile, all of the nerds like Katooni continue to have their weekly luncheons/study clubs with Obi-Wan...
... However, when he's off-world, they will secretly teach their Pedro-friends what they've learned. And they will assist in any ongoing mischief... the difference is that they have the good sense to not tell a Jedi Council member about these schemes, no matter how understanding said Jedi Council member might seem, because "like... isn't that just common sense?"

Fearless (Katooni's Version)
This is where you realize, if you haven't already, that these are entirely based on my own headcanon and opinions.
Ahsoka introduces her to it. During the Gathering arc, Ahsoka's humming some song (probably The Way I Loved You) and Katooni asks about it. Katooni, and most padawans if we're being honest, is probably sorely behind on pop culture so maybe's she's heard of Taylor Swift, but she's definitely never listened to her music. And she thinks of Ahsoka as this cool role model, so why wouldn't she look into Fearless more after Ahsoka introduces it.
I don't think she gets super into the rest of Taylor's music. Eventually, you have to know the lore, if you will, to properly understand some of the meanings, and I don't think Katooni ever looks into that. I do think that she uses Fearless in a similar way that Ahsoka does: an escape. Fearless takes up a tiny portion of her heart that the Jedi Order and the Clone War can't touch, and she uses it to keep herself sane through the craziness of it all.

Humour/Mischief
@jedijune
Tumblr media
.
"This is never going to work," Ahsla angrily whispers for the umpteenth time.
The girl is foreseeing all sorts of horrible futures that all entail months and months of dish duty, Temple upkeep and no flying, and the three of them never ever becoming Jedi Knights. Katooni is rolling her eyes, unbothered. This isn’t the first of Petro’s stupid ideas she’s gotten herself roped into, and since her friend’s shenanigans have always failed to get them into actual trouble with the Masters she just doesn’t see the point in worrying anymore.
Still, the next time he tries to con a black market dealer into selling back to them - at half-price - the lightsabers that they gave up just an hour ago, they’ll have to make sure to bring some actual costumes.
.
The younglings from would have been absolute menaces (affectionate) if they could have grown up to be Padawans, and I love nothing more than to headcanon the TCW crew hanging out with the AotC clan. Zatt and Ganodi are off somewhere flying back home in a ‘borrowed’ ship after they got separated from their Masters (probably Kit and Shaak Ti) and managed to blow up an abandoned Seppie factory or two, Byph and Gungi are being good boys and studying with Ahsla’s bff, Mari Amithest, but they’ll probably end up chasing a killer robot with Tera Sinube trying to get Grogu back from the lower levels (he slipped out to eat a bug), and Petro is dragging Ashla and Katooni into all sorts of weird crazy schemes that would make Qui-Gon Jinn and Quinlan Vos proud.

Here's a few headcanons about this post I made about Hondo adopting Jedi younglings after Order 66.
Somehow, Hondo grabs the kids and gets out unscathed. Chalk it up to him being Force-sensitive/an unwitting trickster god/obliviously immortal (one of those three is true).
Over time, he goes from "They're okay" to "I have kids now" to "I would die for them. You will die for them." Pity the Inquisitor who tries to take them away. Hondo will go from a funny and hammy pirate to the space version of Bryan Mills from Taken so quickly that you'll get friction burns.
While probably not the greatest parental figure, Hondo is unimaginably better than the Empire. The kids will learn how to steal and swindle, but they won't end up like the Inquisitors.
It becomes a running theme where Hondo, through luck, grabs random Force-sensitive children and runs. That little Togruta girl Ashla, the babies Cad Bane kidnapped, Eeth Koth's daughter... He's becoming an expert in interspecies adoption and the care and feeding of Force-sensitive children.
Hondo just has the kids hanging off him.

Hi! While you'll get some conflicting stuff in Legends (I think I remember a brief mention of it in The Approaching Storm which made me roll my eyes because it was Luminara thinking it and Luminara was wearing her own outfit with her own accessories already, in contrast you also have things like Obi-Wan’s river rock from Jedi Apprentice, which is a possession, so it was entirely dependent on which author you were reading) so it’s not totally coming out of nowhere, but it’s one of those things where it’s a random author from deep supplementary material because they just assume the Jedi can’t have possessions, but higher canon contradicts it. We see a handful of rooms in the Jedi Temple and they do tend to skew towards simple in decor (but you also have to consider that animation is HELLA expensive for something that’s only going to be used once, that’s why characters stay in the same clothes in animation so much of the time, because it costs a lot of money to design an outfit that can move around the way they need) but we can see Jedi possessions are not forbidden: - Anakin’s room is chock full of stuff:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Barriss has her prayer statue that’s unique to her:
Tumblr media
Depa went all out in her room:
Tumblr media
Yoda has candles in his room as well:
Tumblr media
There’s a few quotes from Disney canon that says even Initiates have possessions:      “But this morning, [Qui-Gon had] had to pack his few possessions in a small bundle and leave the crèche where he’d lived as long as he could remember.“ [Master and Apprentice]     “So instead Obi-Wan trudged to his room. It was small and austere, but a shelf above his bed held a few treasures he had gathered. A rock from Ilum. A flower Siri had once tucked behind his ear as a joke. A shell Prie had given him that was probably from an unspeakably terrifying creature she adored. The spoon from their initiate days that Bolla had for some reason decided was his favorite, so they all made a game of stealing it. Obi-Wan had won, he supposed, since they were no longer younglings.”  [Padawan]     “Qui-Gon sat on the simple gray cushion he kept in place of more elaborate seating. He had never added furniture for hosting guests. Obi-Wan always felt like he was somehow intruding, like there really was no place for him in Qui-Gon’s life. He knew Siri’s master had a table for two in her living quarters where they took most meals together, and Prie’s had insisted on a Padawan room right next to his own so they could have easier access to each other when studying together.” [Padawan] (I don’t have the direct quote on hand, but in The Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark, Katooni also has a poster of Ahsoka on her wall that she hung up.) Overall, I look at it this way, there are three things that are going into what we see with the Jedi: - Every single frame of animation costs money to make and TCW was not rich at the time it was made, so rooms are designed simply because it was cheaper - The Jedi have a touch of ascetism going on because they’re not super big into worldly possessions and they’re Buddhist monks - I think it works really well as a theme--most Jedi just don’t need stuff, they’re content as they are.  If they want some stuff, they’re perfectly fine to have it, not once does anyone give Anakin a bad time about all the stuff in his room, he openly displays it, it’s fine.  But as a theme, Anakin’s a character who clings onto things, who has trouble letting go, who wants to be surrounded by tangible things, rather than living in harmony with the transient nature of life. Jedi seem to naturally lean towards not having a lot of possessions, they just don’t seem to need them, but they are emphatically NOT forbidden from having them!  There’s nothing in canon that I’ve ever come across that says they’re frowned upon, either. It goes hand in hand with how Jedi are often seen wearing outfits from their birth cultures, like Shaak and Ahsoka with their headddresses, Luminara and Barriss with their head coverings and tattooss, things that are just theirs. So, you’ll see it come up in fic a lot and it’s not like it came out of nowhere, but primary canon does say, yeah, Jedi can have possessions, but they don’t really seem to want or need to have very many of them.
