Jedi June 2023

A creative fandom event dedicated to appreciating the Jedi, taking place during the entire month of June! Each week will feature two prompts, around which people can create fanwork (of any kind – fic, art, cosplay, edits, anything you can think of) or meta focusing on the Jedi and the Jedi Order. All eras and continuities are welcome; OCs, established characters, doesn’t matter – it just needs to be about appreciating the Jedi!
Rules:
If you are participating, please tag your work/meta with #jedi june and/or @ this blog so that I will see it and reblog it here. All work must be your own. Feel free to crosspost it off-site.
This is an appreciation event, focusing on what we love and enjoy about the Jedi – not what we don’t. This is not the place to air your grievances with the Code, take potshots at the Council, prop certain Jedi/certain eras of Jedi up at the expense of others, or disparage the Jedi Order or their philosophy (including the concept of non-attachment) and way of life in any way. You are free to do that on your own time if that’s your thing, but it has no place within this event.
AUs and crossovers are allowed, with caveats: again, the purpose of this event is to appreciate the Jedi as Jedi, so sticking your favorite Jedi characters in something like a modern AU or making them all Sith or Mandalorian is not really within the spirit of this event. However, AUs such as making a non-Jedi character a Jedi, having a character survive their canon death, giving a character a different teacher or padawan, or killing Palpatine off-screen in an unspecified yet embarrassing and painful manner, would all be perfectly fine. Use your best judgement to determine whether an AU fits the spirit of the event or not.
Ships are allowed as long as they’re not between a child and adult, and following the above rules.
Following the prompts is encouraged, but not required. Any sort of pro-Jedi content is encouraged all year month long, and if tagged (and following the rules), will be reblogged. Note that there is a change in the event this year - previously, prompts were associated with Saturday and Sunday of each week. Going forward, the prompts will be associated with the week in general, rather than the weekend specifically. As a result, we have a total of 10 prompts this year, instead of 8!
As another change, we have an AO3 collection this year!

I actually really like the Jedi robes
like they aren’t a mandatory uniform, you can wear other things but also
I really like the earth tones and I don’t understand why so many people don’t.
They’re warm colors and calming and happy earth colors. Good colors, more clothes should be those colors

The Republic is a machine. The Senate, the courts, the planetary members, the citizens, etc. are all gears connected together within that machine. Working together, these gears create a functioning democratic machine.
The Jedi are the grease. They facilitate motion between the gears, they reduce friction and wear. They help the machine run more efficiently and last longer. They are not an essential component of the machine. The machine should still operate without them. It will simply take more work.
Throwing grease at broken gears is not going to fix the machine. Vote the corruption out of office and take it to court. Replace each broken gear with a functioning one. Yes, that requires effort.
Building a new machine because a few gears are broken is costly and a waste of time and resources. This requires significantly more effort than replacing the broken gears. You could simply repair the existing machine and get rid of the Sith lord who's breaking it.
What a concept.

You ever think about that ever present point stanakins make that blames the Jedi for what he becomes because they wouldn't know how to deal with a former slaves trauma?
I call bullshit
You expect me to believe that in their 25,000 years of existence (which included fighting slavery) the intergalactic therapists (George Lucas' words) never encountered or had to help former slaves process their trauma? (Honestly this is just more of anti Jedi people's usual bit, the "we don't see it so therefore it does not happen" reasoning)
Also Anakin was not meant to be someone they had to deal with, he was too old, that's why they didn't want to train him, but Qui-Gon wouldn't let it go
If Anakin hadn't been trained as a Jedi he probably would've still become and entitled, arrogant, possessive shit (because therapy only works when you recognize and try to work on your problems, which Anakin refuses to do), but the difference is he wouldn't have the power or be in the position to fuck over the galaxy for his desires

People will say the jedi are bad for “playing politics” (choosing to help people strategically/prioritizing saving as many people as possible instead of one main character) then immediately say the jedi didn’t do enough politics (didn’t somehow force the senate to stop the war/clone rights/etc.)

All arguments about Jedi not being a family/being an repressive system are invalid. That’s a 14 year old Jedi kid in a tube top calling the venerable elder who’s helping her ‘gramps.’ 
Anakin being her Master isn’t what made her Like That™ because Master Sinube explicitly doesn’t know who she is and yet isn’t surprised by this behavior - doesn’t even react to it - so this is likely to be expected of Padawans. 
(Also he’s not deaf so he definitely heard her call him gramps but he just doesn’t care.) (Also the clothes are from before she became a Padawan so she clearly can’t be that much of an exception.) (Also old turtle gramps is delighted to tag along and have some fun for once! He’s ready to do mischief! It’s gonna be a teaching/bonding experience with this random kiddo and he wants to go kick some criminal’s butt! Also he and Jocasta don’t tattle on Ahsoka for having lost her lightsaber, they let her deal with it without involving Anakin because they respect her wishes!) (Anyway old Jedi have all the rights.)

Being a pro-Jedi fan is super hard.
Stumbled upon a scientific paper ‘The Psychgeist of Pop Culture’ (2024) about ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ series. It’s divided into many smaller research by various PhDs. The Boba chapters are actually very good.
And then there’s ‘Fatherhood and male emotions’ chapter. About Jedi. About attachment. The authors Keely Diebold and Meghan Sander, PhDs, are claimed as Jedi fans.

Good start. / s Bad enough Din Djarin is called ‘Djarin’ as a name throughout the whole paper (my own pet peeve about the dick move of Favreau and Filoni in the end of Season 3 which is a decision to criticize in itself). Of course, Obi-Wan wasn’t a ‘good father figure’ as claimed by Lucas himself. Neither was Bail Organa. /s

Yeah. Hypocrisy. Hey, ‘Jedi fans authors’, have you actually watched the movies? Sigh. Seriously, ‘the intergalactic therapists’ who were trying to help Anakin to cope with his emotions so much, working with ‘cognitive therapy’ – they suppressed emotions. I just… don’t have any coherent thoughts about that bullshit on the screencap. And – now we defend Palpatine. Just great.
By the way, rewatching Indiana Jones movies, I paid special attention to the moments when someone of the team is left behind and the main characters continue chasing the enemies (just like in the mentioned scene in AOTC). And it’s never presented as ‘left behind and forgotten, heroes don’t care about them’.

What is evident to me is that this all is a piece of banthashit. Mandos with the suppression of emotions – I agree. Jedi? When one of their main proverbs ‘feel, don’t think’?

‘His own interpretation’? It’s not! Why did the authors decide that’s what happened? The point is that Anakin is taught ‘compassion, which … [is] unconditional love, is central to a Jedi’s life. … we are encouraged to love’ by the Jedi, but acts in the way he wants regardless. Screams in the plush Grogu How do people manage to watch obvious in messaging children films with their ass holes?
Frankly, I suspect that these ‘Jedi-fans’ authors just don’t understand and didn’t even try to explore the meaning of ‘attachment’ in Star Wars – it’s not ‘a deep and enduring emotional bond that connects one person to another’, it’s ‘selfishness’. They never tried to google Lucas’s interviews, but only used books about child rearing. This is why we have all this crap in a ‘scientific paper’. I firmly believe that @david-talks-sw, @writerbuddha, @kanansdume, @antianakin, @smhalltheurlsaretaken and other fans could write a whole paper about Jedi and attachments – and this would be real in-depth analysis of the Jedi and Star Wars.
And a rotten cherry on the top of this shitcake I noticed just before publishing – using ScreenRant as a reference not the smartest move, really.
