it's not that i don't believe in therapy it's that when i NEEDED it no one cared. so I figured it out myself. I know how to handle myself and my (increasingly infrequent) breakdowns and I understand myself and know I'll be okay no matter what and I self reflect and process my emotions and am very emotionally open and I'm so proud of the person I am every day. but I do have low days, and that's what pisses me off: I'm ALLOWED to be sad sometimes. it's a part of how my brain works, and the important thing is I know how to handle it effectively in a healthy way. and swooping in and forcing me to pay an insane amount to sit in an office when I DID ALL THAT WORK MYSELF is so aggravating. therapy has only ever made me feel worse. I'm a survivor, I've survived so much, and therapy is literally just a scapegoat for empathy for people these days. it relieves you of having to engage or care about other people. and LISTEN I'm not anti therapy by any means. as the Therapist Friend ™️ even when I'm mentally ill asf and when I was a literal kid myself I know that sometimes you can't do anything. professional help is necessary. it's the only way. but it doesn't!!! fucking!!! work for everyone!!! if someone isn't actively suicidal and trying to get better on their own and they don't WANT therapy because it doesn't WORK for them maybe don't be a condescending dick about it! therapy isn't a magical solution that makes everyone okay SOMETIMES people have external problems and are justified in feeling the way they do!!! therapy can be helpful yes but a lot of the time it is just a soulless void of practiced regulations for something that is not black or white because guess what everyone's different! and assuming the same thing works for everyone and that YOU know better than them (unless they're clearly obviously not doing well and are beyond helping themselves) is condescending as fuck!!!

After Atlanta, Jim joins the Bureau. Holden and Jim get a lot closer. So close that Holden feels comfortable enough to confide things he's never told anyone else. Bill notices the close bond and feels out of sorts, wasn't HE Holden's partner? Bill jumps to the wrong conclusions. Things come to a head in a heated argument between Bill and Jim. Neither man sees Holden too consumed in their argument.

Who doesn’t love possessive, jealous Bill??? This was a fun, very clever prompt. Thanks for the ask! :)

When he and Nancy’s marriage started falling apart at the seams, Bill had spent a lot of time wishing for things to go back to the way they used to be. Before he was leaving every other day for road school - before he wanted to leave just to get away from the stifling silences. Before the difficulty of raising a child with special needs leveraged undue pressure on their relationship. Before she started drifting away from him, out of his reach.

But everything changes in way one or another, and life is all about accepting those changes. He’s tried to teach himself that truth over and over.

Over the next several months after Atlanta, Ted oversees the expansion of the unit. All too soon, Bill’s sequestered spot in the annex is overtaken by rookies and interns, a plethora of resources at their fingertips to aid in the fresh influx of investigations.

Along with the new transcribers and equipment added to their arsenal is Jim Barney. Ted had been impressed with his role in the Atlanta case and the Hance and Piece interviews. A few pulled strings, and he’s a part of the team just like he should have been back when Gregg was hired.

Bill should have been grateful for the extra help from someone who already has an idea what they’re doing. Ted’s plan to fast-track the study demands that they increase the speed of the interviews, and for that, they need team members who are willing and able.

Instead, as he watches Holden and Jim’s professional relationship grow to one of mutual admiration and respect while he and Holden’s withers, he finds himself longing for the good old days again. Back when he and Holden were alive with the spark of this idea. Back when they were on the road together, alone, nothing but the radio and each other for company. Back when they talked to each other - not necessarily about matters of the heart, but about things that counted, and with unabashed honesty that was reserved for themselves and not anyone else.

Maybe he’s just making the same goddamn mistakes over and over again. He thinks one night as he watches Jim and Holden leave together to get drinks after work.

Part of him is screaming that he should confront Holden. He and Jim have gone on the last three interviews together. Was it so long ago that Bill was his partner? Was it so long ago that they spoke to each other outside of group discussion on interviews? He thinks about it long and hard every few days only to realize how childish it sounds. Holden can be friends with whoever he wants.

Early one Monday morning, Bill enters the BSU to see Jim leaning against Holden’s desk. He nods when Bill approaches.

“Morning, Bill.”

“Morning, Jim.”

Holden glances up from the dossier on his desk. “Hey, Bill. We’re all meeting in the conference room in fifteen.”

“Okay.” Bill says.

He knocks on Wendy’s door, and pokes his head in. “Good morning. Are we looking at the interviews out in San Quentin?”

“Yes.” She says, looking up from her notebook. “Have you looked them over?”

“Some. I’ve had a busy weekend.” Bill says, “It was my weekend with Brian.”

“Not a problem. I’m sure Holden and Jim are up to date.”

Bill clenches his jaw. “We’ve got a few days. I’ll get there.”

She gives him a terse nod, and a smile.

Muttering a curse under his breath, Bill goes over into the annex to retrieve the dossiers from his desk. They have two interviews scheduled back to back in California, a trip worthy of dedicated research that he simply hadn’t found the time for this weekend.

Once they’re assembled in the conference room, Wendy starts going over the details.

Bill anxiously lights a cigarette while Jim and Holden offer their opinion on preliminary profiles of the two men.

“I think Jim and I can handle this one.” Holden says, “Bill can hold down the fort here in Quantico for a few days. Right, Bill?”

Bill casts Holden a sharp glance through the cloud of smoke pouring from his mouth. The taste of nicotine sours in the back of his throat as their gazes connect, a silent tension elongating between them like an overstretched rubber band.

Bill clears his throat, “I thought Jim had that consult for Galveston.”

“I do.” Jim says, “I can handle both.”

“It’s okay. You shouldn’t have to when my desk is clear.” Bill says.

Silence settles across the conference room for a moment, and Bill hears Wendy draw in a stiff breath.

“Jim has done the research.” Holden says, finally.

“So have I.”

“Bill, it’s okay, really.” Jim says, his tone placating in a way that makes Bill’s teeth grind. “We understand that you have a lot going on right now with Brian-”

“Don’t bring my kid into this.” Bill interrupts, heat flaring hot in his chest before he can stop it. “He has nothing to do with this.”

“All due respect, but I think it does.”

“All due respect?” Bill echoes, acid seething into every word. “Let’s keep this professional, Jim. We’re talking about work, not family. And I’ve done the fucking research.”

“Bill, I think-” Wendy begins, her tone rushed as tension swells into the conference room, sapping oxygen from the air.

“Wendy, it’s okay.” Jim says, holding up a hand. “Bill, I’m sorry if I hit a nerve. I was simply trying to say that-”

“No, I get what you’re trying to say.” Bill says, tossing the folder onto the table, and rising from his chair. “And I’m not distracted or unfit for this job anymore because of what’s going on with Brian. I am still as committed to our work as when Holden and I founded this department.”

“Well, that’s somewhat juvenile, don’t you think?” Jim asks, his cool tone wavering as frustration seeps into his expression. “I have put a lot of effort into getting this position, Bill. More than you or Holden will ever have to experience.”

“Jesus Christ.” Bill says, “Now this is about race?”

“Bill.” Wendy says, sternly. “I think this discussion has gone far enough.”

“Far enough? How about too far?” Jim says, casting Bill a hurt glare.

Bill glances away, feeling a pang of regret.

“I think it’s best if this decision is made by an unbiased third party.” Wendy says, “Myself. And I think it would be best if Jim and Holden took this one.”

“You’re shitting me right?” Bill asks, swinging a glare in her direction, “Holden and I have been doing this shit since the very beginning. These are important interviews. You don’t think that I - a senior member of this department - should be a part of this level of classification?”

“Yes. And you can be part of the discussion.” Wendy says, “When Jim and Holden get back.”

Bill turns to cast Holden glance, to see if at least one person is on his side in this disagreement. But Holden is already getting up out of his chair, and marching out of the conference room. The door swings shut behind him, rattling the length of windows that encompass the room.

Silence blankets the room as a suffocating layer of tension builds in his absence.

“Great.” Bill says, getting up to follow him. “Then I guess it’s settled.”

That evening, Bill lingers at his desk, smoking a cigarette and skimming through the San Quentin interview files. If he hadn’t digested them before, he’s gorged on them now, stubbornly trying to prove a point to himself if not everyone else.

I’m not licking my wounds. He thinks, taking a hard drag of his cigarette. Just doing my job.

The annex is vacant except for him as he gets up from his desk for another cup of coffee. As he pours out the last dregs the interns had left behind, the door creaks open, casting yellow light from the hall across the shadowed bullpen.

Bill turns to see Holden slipping inside, his hands tucked in his pockets.

“Hey, what’s up?” Bill asks, managing an amiable tone.

“I wanted to talk to you.” Holden says, his voice carrying in a tentative whisper across the room.

Bill draws in a deep breath. Ripping open a sugar packet, he asks, “About what?”

“You know.” Holden says, “Earlier, in the conference room.”

Bill tosses the empty packet in the trash, and focuses on stirring the sugar into the lukewarm cup of coffee.

“So, you’re here to lecture me.”

“No.”

“Good.”

“I just think you should apologize to Jim.” Holden says, making his way past empty desks to join Bill by the coffee stand.

Bill takes a sip of the coffee, wincing at the stale flavor. “That’s what you think, hm?”

“Yes.” Holden says, “This isn’t about him.”

Bill stares into the black depths of the coffee, trying to ignore the heat curling up his throat as Holden’s gaze lands heavily on his temple.

Holden sighs, and turns to lean his hips against the table. “It’s about me.”

“You?” Bill scoffs.

“I have to admit, I didn’t think you were the jealous type.”

“Jealous. Now you’ve really got it wrong.”

The words have no more left his mouth than Bill looks up to see Holden gazing at him calmly, eviscerating honesty resting in the deep blue of his eyes. He glances away, fighting back the frustration rising in his chest.

“Bill, the truth is, Jim and I have gotten to be close friends these last few months because I didn’t think we were anymore - not after Atlanta.”

“What?” Bill whispers, his throat thickening.

“Look at you-” Holden says, motioning around the bullpen, “You’re over here in the annex by yourself, and have been since we got back from Vacaville. You didn’t tell me a thing about Brian until I forced you to. You shut me out.”

Bill lets out a feeble laugh, and squeezes the bridge of his nose. “Fuck. Holden, I … I don’t know what to say. I never meant to- … for us to-”

“To not be friends anymore?” Holden whispers.

Bill’s eyes creep open to see Holden staring at the floor, his arms folded defensively over his chest.

“Is that what you think?” Bill asks.

“I don’t know. It’s how I feel.”

Bill swallows hard against the lump forming in the back of his throat. “That isn’t what I want.”

Holden lifts his chin to meet Bill’s gaze, his mouth twitching with a faint smile. “You want to get out of here? Get a drink?”

Bill lets out a relieved laugh. “Yeah, I do.”

Holden shoves away from the table, nodding eagerly towards the door.

Discarding the cold coffee, Bill grabs his wallet and keys from his office, and follows Holden out of the annex. The hallway echoes with their footfalls as they walk in stride down toward the elevator.

“I still think Jim and I should take San Quentin.” Holden says, softly.

Bill feels the frustration in his chest melt away as they step onto the elevator. He casts Holden an affable smile. “That’s more than fair.”

I say this because the Chief is typically the one with the most experience and is highly capable of teaching the other doctors in the hospital

Which we know he would do on a moment’s notice

Probably specialize in diagnostics or orthopedics

And I say this because he seems to piece together many ideas really well

Which is great for diagnostics

And as for orthopedics....

You’re gonna kill me for this joke but

Called in for the more difficult cases because he still needs to manage everyone else and can’t dwell on simple matters

Everyone looks up to him and comes to him for help

Whether it’s personal or professional

I know that I don’t have a way of knowing this for sure

But I feel like he’s good at giving news in a calming way

And there’s a lot of bad news in oncology

He is also a very dedicated person

And oncology patients tend to be in and out of the hospital for years

The only thing I’m not sure how well he could handle is the deaths

This boy would probably get attached

Even if he’s trying not to

But aside from that

I see him being an awesome oncologist

He was kind of difficult for me if I’m being perfectly honest

Most things I thought of for Minho I already chose for someone else lol

In the end

I think he could be a good ophthalmologist

First off

And probably the least important part

The patients would have no problem looking at this man for long periods of time in an appointment

Secondly

Ophthalmologists deal with a large range of ages in patients

I can see Minho getting an impatient middle aged businessman out quickly

And I can also see him being gentle and patient for a ten year old who is scared of the big machines

If anyone feels a little insecure because they need glasses

I know I do

I feel like he would notice immediately and give them a well-mannered compliment

Which would help a lot

All in all

Very good at his job

He would make a phenomenal physiatrist

(Physical medicine and rehabilitation)

I say this because he is constantly working out

So he knows how to do it without hurting himself

I feel like he would happily teach others

He would patiently help someone get on their feet after a strenuous surgery

He would be ready for the long haul with a patient who needs an extreme amount of help

He’s strong af so he could catch someone before they fall

Which sounds all romance-y without me trying to make it sound like that

He would work out alongside you so that you don’t feel singled out or alone

After the patient’s recovery

He would be beaming if he bumped into you again at the gym

High key proud of you and of himself for the fact that you’re still going

For Hyunjinnie, I’d say pathology

He’s not too outgoing

As I’ve said before lol

And many pathologists spend hours in dark rooms looking through microscopes

Not gonna lie, I almost posted this with the word telescope instead of microscope lmao

He would be very attentive with his work

Which he would need to be because we all know he would have many admirers

Again, another reason he would enjoy pathology

The lab would become one of his favourite places because of this

His coworkers would really respect him because of his accuracy

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen him reading books a lot in the back of rooms

Which I’m sure he would do during his lunch break

Even on his break, if someone comes up to him needing results quickly

He would run back in the lab to help

Because that’s just who he is

He’s just so warm and inviting

This works well for most children

And puts most others at ease which is important

It’s also known that Jisung is very dedicated to his work and can concentrate really well

So it’s a nice duality

He can act all crazy and energetic to make people happy

Then turn around and stare and a clipboard for twenty minutes figuring something out without breaking concentration

I also get the feeling he can work really quickly which is good when large families want to get out of the hospital

I’m so sorry that this one is so short, I can’t think of anything else 😭

Dr. Felix Lee

The psychologist

He just seems SO easy to talk to

Whenever I read things that fans have said about him from fansigns

He seems to help them open up in a short amount of time and they leave happily

It just screams psychology to me

He could even get those stubborn patients who don’t want to be there to open up

He would also be good at psychology because he is not quick to dismiss others’ problems

It really makes it hard to want to talk to your psychologist if they make you uncomfortable by constantly dismissing you

At the same time

He will be able to be an unbiased third party and get to the bottom of your issues

Whether it’s something that requires medication

Or just a change by you and your behavior

Regardless

He would help you through it and make sure that you’re ready for the world

As a side note

Imagine randomly bumping into him at the store between meetings

He’d probably crack a dumb face and make you laugh before carrying on

Which would make you that much more comfortable at your next session

Seungmin

Don’t @ me on this because I’m not 100% sure

But I feel like with the way Seungmin acts

And how smart he seems

He must be really good at math

Which leads me to believe he would be a great anesthesiologist

Why?

Anesthesiologists have to constantly calculate just how much of each drug to put in the syringe to keep someone knocked out for the entire surgery

One slip up and things could go a little sideways

He also doesn’t seem too overly outgoing

And most anesthesiologists don’t really interact with the patients or their families much

As far as I know lol

And I feel like he could low key keep people a little entertained during the surgery

By which I mean making some sly jokes

Because this boy can be a savage

And sometimes a patient is just a little too much

He definitely wouldn’t speak out of turn though

Extremely respectful to his superiors

For this, most of them like him

Which is definitely advantageous

I know a lot of people said Jeongin should be a pediatrician

But I just don’t see it

For only one reason

Unless this cutie is smiling

He looks like he could frickin murder you

Anyway, that just doesn’t seem good for a pediatrician

Which brings me to say that he might do well in geriatric medicine

(To explain, medicine for the elderly)

The elderly still require the gentleness that children do

But they’re much less likely to get scared away just because someone doesn’t automatically look warm and inviting

As we all know

This boy is so sweet

All the grandmas would love squishing his cheeks

And he would happily oblige

Because he’s just so darn cute

ON OOC DRAMA, STRIKES, AND HOW THEY WORK

We know the past week has been a difficult one for Rookies as a whole, so we feel like we’d be doing you guys a disservice to not address it a little. Normally we avoid commenting on drama in Rookies because we want to keep uninvolved parties uninvolved. We like to be the ones wrapped up in drama so you guys don’t have to be, but we believe essentially the entire roleplay has been affected by drama this week, so there’s no reason to keep quiet about it.

First of all, we want to apologize to any members that feel we haven’t represented them well, or like we haven’t properly defended them or helped them enough. This is a criticism we get repeatedly, and honestly, one that hurts us, because we do a lot behind the scenes to deal with every concern brought to us. Have we done enough? We decided this week that we haven’t. Regardless, we want to shed some light on exactly how much effort we put into dealing with drama in RK, not necessarily to defend ourselves, but because we want to be more transparent with you and show you how stuff works in case it will help you.

Our punishment for OOC drama runs on a three strike system, meaning you get two chances, and on your third offense, you’ll be removed from the roleplay. As our rules say, “If you cause a problem OOC and all available staff members unanimously agree, you will earn a strike,“ and that’s intentionally broad. It sounds simple, and maybe it should be more simple than we’ve made it, but it’s actually a complicated process. One of the reasons why is because we must have a unanimous mod consensus, as was already highlighted. This means all seven mods on the team have to vote in a strike trial, share their opinions, and agree. Since everyone has their own lives, everyone tends to type a long paragraph explaining their thoughts behind their vote, and sometimes we disagree, this process alone can take days.

Let’s go back to that one thing I mentioned: strike trial. This is when all seven mods vote either in favor or against a strike for the behavior in question, but we feel like this needs a little more explanation. When an issue is brought to our attention, it is always brought to the attention of the mod chat at large. Sometimes, we can quickly discuss whether we think it’s strike-worthy and agree that it’s not, and that the issue can be solved just by talking to both parties involved. It’s important to note that these issues do add up, and repeated small problems can eventually result in a real deal strike trial and strike. When more serious issues come up, we immediately begin an official strike trial, and the trial is [party one] vs [party two]. It is never just one individual on trial, but both sides involved, and we’re very serious about getting both sides of the story, and forming the third side: the neutral one. Once we agree to start a strike trial, this information goes into our strike trial document, and we begin to collect evidence, which goes into another document containing all evidence for the case. We put all screenshots and messages in order, date them, and make sure the entire timeline is correct, then continuously update the evidence document as more information comes in. Just putting the evidence in the document sometimes takes hours. Since we want to be thorough in our investigations, it takes even longer since we get more and more evidence that needs to be added, and this process only stop when we all feel confident enough in our votes.

Another criticism we receive often is one of favoritism, and we can admit, it’s hard to keep personal issues and pain out of voting against people that have caused drama. Thankfully, we have seven different mods with different friend circles and different opinions to curb that, and we also try to remain as neutral as we possibly can; in the past some of us have even refrained from voting if we feel like we can’t be unbiased about the issue. We try to keep personal issues and personal experience with the muns in question out of our votes, being entirely professional, or at least we used to. We’ve endured a lot of, quite frankly, abuse from the community doing this, and while we’ll still continue to put everyone else’s feelings above our own, in the case that we are continuously disrespected and hurt by someone, that will count as evidence into a strike trial too, even if it’s evidence we don’t count as highly as the rest we receive. There comes a point where we have to draw a line, and if someone has hurt us so much, it becomes hard to believe they haven’t done the same to others in the community.

We’ll pause here to say this is not a post calling out anyone in particular, even if that may seem the case, but this is an issue with multiple people in Rookies. Now, we’ll go back to the criticism of us not doing anything, and say we’re determined for that to change. In the past, we’ve worried about being too harsh with disciplinary action, and scaring our members that don’t have anything to be afraid of, but we believe the positives of being harsher vastly outweigh the negatives. Rest assured, the strike system will stay, and we’ll still continue to be as loving in dealing with these issues as we can, but not at the expense of the truth like we may have in the past. We know you’ve heard this vow to be more serious often from us, and we apologize for that too, but with the firepower two new mods have brought to us, and the experience all these years have given us, we feel prepared to act more proactively on behalf of the community, regardless of the blowback we’ll receive. There may be a bit of a learning curve with this, so please be patient with us as you will, and know we’ll always do our best to act with your best interests in mind.

It’s also important to note that in strike trials, neutral opinions are some of the most important to us. When drama reaches people that are uninvolved with either side and they come to us sharing their thoughts and their distress, that compels us into further action, so if you ever see something in RK that makes you uncomfortable, please come forward. We know there’s been a lot of discourse about us being untrustworthy, and we can’t and won’t force anyone to feel favorably about us. People may feel that we haven’t helped them, but we definitely can’t help people that won’t come forward. Please bring as much evidence as you can to us when you approach us about an issue, and we hope that we can prove different to those that don’t believe in us any longer. We’ll try our best to.

With all of this in mind, we acknowledge that RK hasn’t been a very healthy environment, at least this week, if not for a long time, and we accept our hand in that. It’s been very difficult to work out a solution, but we believe we’re coming closer to one, and we hope as we continue to keep to what we said today, you’ll notice positive change. That being said, we want to remind everyone that this is only roleplay. Real work and feelings are involved, but at the end of the day, this is supposed to be a hobby and something fun. Please don’t prioritize Rookies above your mental health and wellbeing, although believe us, we know it’s easier said than done. If the negatives of being here outweigh the positives for you to be here, it may really be the best decision for you to leave, and we don’t say that because we want people to leave, but because we care about you guys beyond the scope of KRP, and want you to be happy not just here, but in your real lives. If Rookies isn’t a part of that happiness, we’ll support you in leaving us, and we’ll be here should that change.

Even though this week might’ve been a little earth-shaking, beyond all of this, we don’t intend for Rookies to change. We’re still the same mods you know and (hopefully) love, and Rookies will be the same roleplay it’s been for nearly six years. We can’t and won’t promise it’ll be a perfect and always happy place going forward, and will say right now that sunshine takes a little rain, and when things are at their worst, you can’t have peace without a war. Please bear with us, and know we’ll be fighting to do our best for the community at large every step of the way. We’ll get through it all together!

I think I need mental help, but Im not sure how to come about it. Gay world and love and body dysmorphia has given me so much anxiety especially as an asian guy that I dont know anymore. Many other gay asian guys have experienced - and survived - the same kinds of struggles that you’re dealing with, and you’ve taken a big step by naming the problems you want to address and seeking help.

You deserve to feel better, and we’re concerned that these issues seem like a self-reinforcing cycle. We can’t make concrete, specific suggestions without knowing more details about your needs, such as local resources in your area, but we want to emphasize the importance of finding people you can talk with in detail about the issues you’re experiencing in order to stabilize your situation.
