Pokemon Journeys Appreciation Post...

2020 is coming to an end, and has certainly been an eventful year. However it was not in a good way! But it was a good first year of Pokémon Journeys, so I want to give it some appreciation for helping me through these difficult times.

Now how can I not start by giving some appreciation to our boys Ash and Goh and their Pokémon first. I love the dynamic these two have with each other. Ash's has got himself a pretty good Pokémon Journeys Team, and what better way to start it off by giving him some Pokémon fans have waited years for him to catch. And they all have such personality, I can't get enough of our Same as Ever Pikachu Huggable Dragonite, Mischievous Gengar, Cute Riolu-Stoic Lucario, and while we still haven't gotten much personality from Farfetch'd yet. I can't wait to see it grow and show more personality next year.

Though while I like Ash's Lucario, it seems to have taken away some much needed screentime from Ash's other Journeys Team, especially Farfetch'd. So I do hope that next year they give the rest of Ash's Journeys Team some equal attention and screentime instead of keeping them on the sidelines.

And while Goh has already caught almost as many Pokémon as Ash did during his 23 year run in just 1 year. He doesn't have any fixed members aside from Cinderace and Sobble, so not a lot of them have shown much of their personalities. But I do hope we get some more episodes centering some of Goh's Pokémon like JN023 gave them some equal screentime and showed us their individual personalities.

But Cinderace has had different personality traits during it's evolutions, which of course reflects the phases of growing up. I loved Cute and Energetic Scorbunny, and I was shocked that it went to Emo Raboot in such a short time. But I grew to like Raboot's personally as well, cause it's rebellious phase was certainly related to a lot of us as well. Although I'll miss Emo Raboot, I'm glad that we got our Cheerful Fire Bunny back after it evolved into Cinderace. Not only that, it's a lot stronger than Scorbunny since it was able to last longer than Ash's Pikachu against Mewtwo.

And I'm happy that Goh's Sobble also accompanies Goh during his adventures instead of always staying at Cerise Park like Goh's other Pokémon. Besides, Sobble's such an adorable crybaby, and it formed such a cute sibling like bond with Cinderace. And if Goh's the one who catches Grookey, I hope that Cinderace and Sobble form a similar relationship with it as well.

But the one Pokémon I would like give some thanks to is Ash's Dragonite. I will admit that I was like "meh" on Pokémon Journeys during the first 2 months, cause saying goodbye to the Sun and Moon Series was hard. Though I did truly love the first and second episodes, it was kinda hard to move on from the Sun and Moon Series. But just when it seemed that each episode would be just as predictable as the last, the episode where Ash caught the most adorable Dragonite certainly exceeded expectations. So much so that it was Trending on Twitter for a while. After that, it slowly but surely became easier for me to move on and enjoy new Pokémon Journeys episode each week. And now I'm looking forward to what each new episode brings to us and I'm enjoying each and every minute of it.

While Team Rocket's goal will never change! I kinda have some mixed feelings about their New Rocket Vending Suprise Master. I do wish that they would've formed some bonds with the Pokemon the Vending Machine gives them, instead of just using them for battle. On the other hand, I do love the anticipation it always gives us every time it appears as we often don't know what Pokemon Jessie and James are going to get next, so I do like that about it.

But at least we know that this Villainous Idiots will never stop being such loveable goofballs. And Pokeani wouldn't be the same without these guys. I also hope that we get a little bit longer Research Fellows and Team Rocket Trio Truces next year as well than we got in JN040.

I really don't have a lot of complaints about Ash and Goh's goals. Since they completely changed the formula for this series instead of going back to to the usual formula from Generations 1-6. I love that Ash's goal is handled in a different way! After all, Ash has finally won a Game Based Pokémon League in Sun and Moon. So what better way to compete in a completely different league that allows you battle trainers from all over the world while raising your ranks to make it to Master Class. This will be a real test of skill for Ash than any of the other leagues had to offer! The only question I have is if a battle against Ash and The World's Strongest Trainer Leon Top Alolan Father and Son Showdown?!

While Goh's goal of catching one of all kinds of Pokémon took some getting used to, since he doesn't often battle them or forming bonds with them before catching them. I just simply learned to get used to it overtime! Besides, his catching style is based off the Pokémon Go and Let's Go game mechanics. Also when you think about it, Goh is almost like the original version of Ash Ketchum. Who was originally planning to catch a lot of Pokémon (although that was just to try to be better than his rival Gary) until he decided it's better to form bonds with Pokémon than worry about how many he has. While I would be shocked if Goh manages to catch a Legendary Pokémon to keep and it seems a bit strange for a Main Character to catch a Legendary to keep after 23 years. But I love Pokeani so much, so whatever the animators decide, I'll just roll with it. While I do like Goh and wish him the best of luck, just hopefully they won't let him catch Nebby the Solgaleo, or the Lunala Gladion teamed up with.

While Chloe is the First Pokegirl to start off as a recurring character in Pokémon Journeys. She went through some great character development during the first half of Pokémon Journeys. She went from a girl who was "meh" on Pokémon at first to a girl who becomes fascinated with them during her time with Yamper and some adventures with Ash and Goh. And now that she caught herself an Eevee with a similar dilemma as hers, I hope those tweets I saw on Twitter weren't kidding and she'll join Ash and Goh as a Research Fellow sometime next year. (Of course they may not be such reliable sources, so don't get your hopes up) So if she does, I hope she meets some of Ash's previous traveling companions amd recurring characters as well.

Speaking of which, my favorite part of Pokémon Journeys is all of the past characters that have made appearances in just the first year of Pokémon Journeys. It was great to see Lance and Chuck appear in the anime again after all these years, the battle between Ash and Korrina in JN025 was certainly awesome, as well Gurkinn introducing Goh to Mega Evolution, and the Mewtwo from the first movie making an appearance in the main series was not disappointing. Even though Diantha has only made a cameo appearance in JN026, I would like it if she makes a full appearance sometime as well. Perhaps as a Master Class trainer challenging Leon someday?!

But the best one of them all was the Alola Pokémon School Reunion in JN037! It was certainly heartwarming to see Ash reuniting with almost all of his former classmates and catch up with them, as well as reuniting with his Alola Mom and Dad and meeting his new Alolan Little Brother Lei. And although Lillie and her family are still searching for Mohn, I'm so happy that the Aether Siblings made an appearance in this episode as well. I really hope that we'll see even more Aether Siblings soon, and that we'll see them reunite with Mohn. I also really want Chloe to meet Ash's Classmates as well, and Team Rocket reunite with their Alolan Family the next Alola visit as well. I really hope that next year even more of Ash's Past Traveling Companions reappear in Pokémon Journeys as well as other recurring characters and Gym Leaders as well.

I have never seen a more difficult year like 2020, and I can't say whether things will get a little better or even worse in 2021. But Pokémon Journeys is certainly giving me something to look forward to each and every week, as well as the no. 1 reason to see this year through. And even during the unexpected hiatus, it was and is my becon of hope in these dark days cause they bring a lot of Heart, Humor, and Awesome Pokemon Battles as well. So I give this thank you to the Pokeani Community for being there for us during a year like this. And I'm looking forward to what kinds of adventures our Pokemon World Travelers and Team Rocket Trio bring in 2021!

Tumbling in Love

× I'm sure some of you noticed but I changed it from "drabble" to "one-shot" because that's what it is 💀 I promise you they start off as drabbles but then they get to around 2k words.

Every morning was another one filled with manual work. You took care of a lot of Pokemon but the most time-consuming has to be the herd of Wooloo at your farm. Surprisingly enough, your Flareon handles rounding them up just as well as any Yamper or Growlithe would do. It was less difficult with your trusty partner and usually getting the Wooloo to where they must be was fairly simple. It only becomes a crisis when one of them runs off from the group, then it has to be chased down, something both you and Flareon very much wished to avoid.

In order to wake up early, you must have a resolve to actually remove yourself from the comfort of your bed. Once your eyes open, it takes you a moment before you sit up and stretch. You don't even consider laying back down because if that happens then there's no getting up again.

You lived near Turrfield, when you went to the Pokemon Center there, you would always see a Wooloo or two running around through the windows. You wondered if they were your Wooloo at times, but there was always the same man chasing them with a big smile on his face. Somehow, you related to this. Chasing Wooloo is work yet if you love the Pokemon enough, it won't feel like it as much. When you see him it always seems to bring a smile to your face, not only because it reminds you of your own Wooloo, but because the man himself always appeared to be content.

It was slightly windy today, your Wooloo quite liked this weather. They're so fluffy, they roll around and let the wind push them around a bit. Flareon and you make sure none of them go too far out or hurt themselves, some of the Wooloo are a little smarter than others and dodge the fence but other (younger Wooloo) need more attention. You stood by the gate while Flareon made sure it had the young Wooloo near it. It seemed as if it was going to be calm day, no Wooloo chasing until the wind blew a little harder and happy Pokemon flew over the fence.

"Flareon! Ms. Poof flew away!" You said, while hopping over the gate. It would have taken longer to unlock it, open it, close it, then lock it again. "Make sure the other Wooloo stay here! I'll be back with Ms. Poof!" You ran after the ball of white fluff that was rolling rapidly down a hill. At this rate Ms. Poof was going to hurt herself or hurt someone else by accident.

"Ms. Poof! Please try to stop yourself from rolling so fast! You're going to damage yourself or someone else!" You shouted. Thankfully it heard and Ms. Poof was a playful Wooloo but it never wished to cause pain to itself, much less to other people or Pokemon. She slowed down by a small amount, the steep hill was making it difficult for her.

You tried to run at a quicker pace, almost tripping on your own feet to catch Ms. Poof but nothing was in your favor as of now. There was a shift in the weather, the wind didn't calm itself and poor Ms. Poof was making struggling noises, realizing that she wasn't in the best situation. There was someone else outside right now, a man it seemed, he was walking across at the bottom of the hill and about take a full powered tackle. Granted, it was from a low level Wooloo but even then, it'll do damage.

"Sir! Excuse me! Please be careful!" You yelled as loud as you could to warn the man. His head perked up and he instantly caught sight of you and Ms. Poof. You recognized the fellow Wooloo chaser after seeing the familiar hat along with his vibrant green eyes. He has been in these situations a few times, so he squatted and took the tackle with open arms while falling back in the process.

Your eyes widened as you abruptly came to a halt and fell back as well. He stood up then helped Ms. Poof get back on her feet to guide her back to you. She rubbed against his legs and pranced around him with a light blush on her face.

"Ms. Poof... I'm glad you're safe!" You pull her into your arms. She protested a bit at first but then snuggled into your arms, feeling the genuine worry you had for her. "Thank you very much, she probably would have gotten hurt if you weren't there! Are you alright?"

"Don't worry, I'm glad to have helped." His gentle smile caused your heart to flutter like the wings on a Butterfree. "I'm alright, you should worry about yourself and... Ms. Poof ain't it?"

Your irises shifted to the side, staring at nothing in particular. You were somewhat embarassed that he had to find out that you named your Wooloo. Worst of all, it had to be Ms. Poof. Her of all Wooloo; it could have been Fluffy, Cloud, or Snowflake but it was Ms. Poof that flew off as if she was a flying type Pokemon.

"Y...Yes," You stumbled on the simple word, "I'll take Ms... Er.. Poof to the Pokemon Center to make sure she's okay and be off. Thank you again!" He offers his hand and you place your hand in his bigger one, immediately getting a warm feeling from your hand to your chest. Unbeknownst to you, he got the same feeling knew you were someone he wanted to get to know.

You patted your clothes to get rid of dirt that may have gotten stuck to you then politely smiled before picking up your Wooloo and started heading towards the Poke Center. He appeared in front of you once more, not allowing you to walk any further. He didn't seem to have any bad intentions so your head tilted to the side, wordlessly asking if he needed anything.

"It is rather late and I wanted to ask if I could walk you home?" You raised a brow at him. "Not that I think you can't handle yourself! I was thinkin' I could..." He paused, not quite sure how to proceed with his sentence.

"I wouldn't mind the company," You answered while mentally hoping he wanted to get to know you as you wanted to get to know him. "I never got your name, savior of my Wooloo!" The title you gave him made him smile, it was a sweet and shy grin.

"I'm Milo, and you are?"

"Milo..." You tested out the familiar name. Wasn't he the Gym Leader in Turrfield? Oh gosh he is, isn't he? Milo the Grass Type Gym Leader of Turrfield sounds about right. "I-I'm (Name), a pleasure to meet you!"

"Pleasures' mine really," He says.

After Nurse Joy told you that Ms. Poof was okay, you and Milo walked to your home. It wasn't very far but it was still a lengthy walk there. No one brought up a Flying Taxi and you were fine with that. It felt much nicer to talk to him like this.

"How'd you come up with lil' Ms. Poof here's name?" He was carrying her now, she liked Milo a lot and it was a cute sight. One big man holding one of your baby-ish Wooloo, it was a pleasant sight that you wouldn't mind having more frequently.

"Well, I think its self-explanatory... She is quite fluffy and I already had a Wooloo named Fluffy so I came up with Ms. Poof!" He nodded, shaking his head at the information.

"I also give my Wooloo names..." His face reddened at what he told you, but he thought only he would name Wooloo and know the difference between all of them.

"You do!? How do you tell them apart? For me its personality and coat density. On rare occasions its coat density, some of them have colored wool or styled wool because I let kids play with them and I tell them apart that way."

"You are makin' sure they use colors safe for the Wooloo right?" You hum in response, your short way of saying yes.

"I'd be a bad Pokemon caretaker if I was putting my Wooloo in danger, don't ya think?" As if you didn't like him before, he asks about the care of your Wooloo and you adored him even more. He glanced at you apologetically, probably for assuming that you didn't use safe colors for the Pokemon. You waved it off instantly though. "Better to make sure I know about Pokemon safe colors, right? Better safe than sorry. It's fine."

"I'm glad you didn't take it as an attack or somethin' like that, I'm sure you're great at takin' care of your Pokemon!" Not only did you also take care of a herd of Wooloo, you take care of other Pokemon, you were smart enough to know how to care for them all, you were definitely handsome/beautiful, and you got along well with kids from what he's hearing.

"Thank you, I'm sure you care for your Wooloo and other Pokemon well too. I'm glad I'm not the only one that names the Wooloo!" You share some more names with him and he shares what he has named his Wooloo. Aside from that, you liked listening to his stories about the Gym and when he competed in the challenge. It felt as if you'd known each other for a long time and at some point you'd even shoved him playfully with no hesitation. You both laughed it off like old friends, not something you want to remain as though.

Once you made it home, your Flareon was sitting out front. It was waiting patiently for you to get back and all the Wooloo were back in the barn so that they didn't float away. Flareon is very well trained to understand weather conditions and the health of the Wooloo. It also knows at what time they are supposed to be back inside the barn. All done by you! You struggled to train Flareon but now you two had a good schedule going along with a good relationship.

"It was nice talking to you Milo! Let's walk together again sometime," You nervously suggested. Milo was gently setting down Ms. Poof when Flareon noticed your mannerisms change and ran around your legs. Tackling the back of your legs for you to trip right into Milo's hands. "Flareon wants you to agree, I believe." You laughed, trying to hide your embarrassment behind one of your hands.

"I was goin' to agree anyway," He said. Milo blushes and places a hand on the back of his neck. "Would it be alright if I visited at times? You don't have to say yes--"

"You're welcome here anytime!" You cut him off, happily. You had no doubt, you wanted him to come by whenever he could. "It would be great to see you more frequently and hopefully spend more time together?" You scolded yourself mentally for letting the statement sound like a question. Milo found this nervousness you had endearing though, it was an even more adorable aspect to you when he knows he caused it.

"I would love that." He took hold of your hands and gave them a light squeeze. "I will be back soon for you." Your eyes widened but his words pulled on your heartstrings just as a smile pulled on your lips.

"I'll be looking forward to it then."

*cracks knuckles*Alright, let’s do this.

26: The late Robin Williams & Hayao Miyazaki are two particular people in my life I’ve idolized for what happiness/imagination they’ve brought into others lives. Robin Williams untimely passing still hurts for me to look back on because this man made it his mission to bring so much joy into other peoples lives through his acting on the big screen, whether it was dramatic or comedic. That’s what I found the most impressive about Robin’s range in acting. He could be an over the top funny individual, but Robin’s acting chops were in a league of their own. Whether he was behind the microphone having the time of his life as Genie on Aladdin or giving a powerful dramatic performance on Good Will Hunting as Will’s therapist, I could feel the unconditional kindness. There was something about Robin’s acting power that would usually manage to reel me in. Even if I never knew him in real life, obviously, this man just radiated with so much kindness that I felt from his entire presence on screen. It’s seriously unfortunate what became of Robin Williams in the end with his unexpected death, but his legacy has inspired me to be kinder to others in real life. As for Hayao Miyazaki, this guy is a huge factor in why I got into loving anime related stuff all the more, as his creations in storytelling and the art itself for the movies were beyond unlike anything I still have yet to seen be topped quite frankly. It’s so easy for me to get emotionally lost in his films like My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Castle In The Sky, and Spirited Away. This man never ceases to amaze me with how usually impactful and in depth his films are. They’re so full life that it’s easy to lose sight of whats happening in the actual story at times. Mayazaki understood how to breathe a ton of humanity into creating such resonating works of fiction. Have a much greater appreciation for them in my adult years. There’s a reason why they inspired companies, like Pixar, to create immersive stories of their own.

30: Favorite TV shows range from Cowboy Bebop, Avatar The Last Airbender, Yu Yu Hakusho, Digimon Adventure 01 & Tamers, Teen Titans (2003), Batman The Animated Series, Ed, Edd,& Eddy, Samurai Jack, Courage The Cowardly Dog, The Powerpuff Girls (Screw that garbage reboot.), Chowder, Bojack Horseman, DuckTales (1987), DuckTales (2017), Gravity Falls, Code Geass (This series has shaky writing in a number of areas, but that ending was beautiful.), Amphibia, Steven Universe, Oban Star Racers, Made In Abyss, Stranger Things, Gargoyles, My Hero Academia, Naruto (I’ve got a soft spot for this series despite my MANY problems with its story later on.), Pokemon (Serious nostalgia overload!), Dragonball Z (My very first anime series I got into through the Toonami block. A real shocker I know. 36: My three dream scenarios I’d like to fulfill?

1: Become A Voice Actor

Been interested in voice acting since I was a young teen, but have been in a conflicted state over these recent passing years in my life on whether or not I’d like to approach that route. There’s a lot of commitment I’d have to put into auditioning my butt off for roles I may or not get. Then comes the consistent practicing to keep my vocal chords in shape, so I don’t get rusty whatsoever. The industry for this kind of job can be hard to get recognized in too by how many other notable well known VA’s there are already. Not to mention, from what I’ve researched up on being a voice actor doesn’t bring in the money naturally, as it’s more of a passion job which that’s terrific and all, but if I want to partake in this profession I’ll have to juggle a job along with that which putting all those factors in my head honestly makes me intimidated. Ahhh well, it’s just something I’ll have to wait and see on if I can make that idea into a reality or not. No need to rush myself, of course.

2: Taking Up The Mantle Of Reviewing Shows & Films For A Living

Fiction, just like for many people, has been a great deal of helping me in my life moments of stress, solitude, depression, and anger. I’d love nothing more than to further express that to anyone out there in reviewing in great detail certain films or shows that I’ve come to love over these years in my life so far. Mostly for animation though, as its been a gateway for finding many gems of quality films or series. It never ceases to surprise me on how creative and powerful animation can be with its inventive ways of getting me to become an emotional mess. While I do enjoy live action series and films they pale in comparison to the beauty animation has brought into my life, since my early childhood of watching shows on Cartoon Network, Toon Disney, and Nickelodeon to a smaller degree. I’d like to think I’m good enough with how I present my reasons on why I feel so strongly connected to these stories showcasing characters trying to find hope in their own hard times. I try my hardest to take moments of my own life and find ways to connect it with whatever story I’m getting into next, so it can be all the more a special experience for myself. It’s important to put whatever character resonates with you most in their shoes for why you feel their emotional journey connecting with your own life on every conceivable level possible. That will make it when you write these kinds of reviews a very empowering read for others to feel either heard in their own feelings or simply giving others a new perspective to consider on this piece of fiction you’re discussing. Seeing some of my own particular analytical posts in the past here on Tumblr garner some attention from people gives me a boost of feeling better about potentially making this choice.

3: Starting A Family Of My Own…?

I can’t begin to tell ya how many times I’ve gone back and forth for getting married in the distant future to become a father has sped through my mind. On one hand, it scares the crap out of me to be taking up that big of a responsibility. However, on the other hand its deeply fascinated me emotionally of creating life through love for your significant other in starting your own family tree. I’d love to be able to raise kids of my own to pass on the lessons I’ve learned in life to make them become better people in the distant future, while showering them with unconditional love and affection. That would fill me up with such an indescribable joyous feeling to hear their own dreams and desires on what they want to accomplish in life. While I’d be a strict parent, I wouldn’t be a hard headed one quick to dismiss their own complaints if they had problems with how I handled things, once they start to get older. The kind of parent I’d want to be is an understanding open minded one who doesn’t judge their son or daughter for when they have an issue with me. Just because I’m a parent in that scenario doesn’t put me on a pedestal of immunity from criticism. Granted, I certainly don’t want to be a doormat for them to try taking advantage of either, but it’s also important to not let your parental role go to your head, too.

Although, I don’t plan on even trying to make this last dream of mine happen anytime soon. This is something that is MUCH later down the road that I wish to have happen. However, I won’t lie and say that I haven’t considered just staying content as a single guy for the rest of my life relying on close friends to bring me joy equivalent to this dream. While I adore the concept of creating life through love and being a father, there’s a shit ton of responsibility that comes with it. The life of a parent is not just putting your all into it. You gotta give more than just 100% when wanting to be a parent. Maybe I’ll stay happily single or I’ll happily be raising kids.

Couples Costumes

So Halloween snuck up on me this year because it’s fucking tomorrow and I kinda forgot about it with all the things on the news. I had a handful of Halloween related posts that I wanted to post and while I managed to get a few done, the ones that require some photoshop work are still on my ‘To Do List’. Clearly, I went a little overboard with my post here posting 45 Halloween Costumes above (I am counting the classic Batman Costumes and the Wayne/Garth pics as just two costumes, so yes my math is sound).

I WAS planning to do a Velma/Shaggy or Salt/Snail costume with my S.O. but I am remarkably alone yet again, woe is me and my pity party. ^_^ Not being a downer, I promise. *Slaps Cheeks* Back on topic, Michael! You're rambling again. Yeah so here is a list of costumes. I might make another list next year but let's be honest the best couples costumes will be on this post. If you have your ideas/suggests I love to hear/see them in the notes.

Cartoons

Ash & Misty (Pokemon) - Kind of a classic costume these days as they are both iconic. Who wouldn't want to see their girlfriend in some jean shorts tiny yellow tank top? Misty can be switched out for sexy Pikachu.

Bob & Louise (Bob’s Burgers) - Lots of great characters in the show but none better than Bob and Louise (sorry Tina fans). This would be a fun outfit to host a party and cook burgers. Just a thought.

Birdman & Birdgirl (Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law) - Fun costume for Adult Swim lovers. I love for my girlfriend to do that inner monologue out in the open the way Birdgirl does. I could also switch Harvey out for Phil because “Ha Ha Naughty”.

Max & Roxanne (Goofy Movie) - Simple costume with some paint on the nose and select clothes. I suspect only the 80′s thru 90′s kids would make the connection but the Z Generation has proved me wrong before.

Wanda & Cosmo (Fairly Oddparents) - Not my favorite costume set but one that would be fun if we had a kid who we were fairy godparents too.

Curious Georgia & Man in the Yellow Hat (Curious George) - This is all the excuse you need to jump on my back or my front or my bed.

Alice & The White Rabbit (Alice in Wonderland) - Alice in Wonderland has lots of males to dress up as between the March Hare, White Rabbit, Mad Hatter and more. I am sure you girls like options.

Lilo & Stitch (Lilo & Stitch) - If I had four arms the sexy stuff we would do in bed but I don't sadly. However, I can make a great stitch voice not that a cartoon voice does much for you.

Jack Skellington & Sally (Nightmare Before Christmas) - I might be too broad shouldered for this sort of couples costume but if my partner is willing I am game.

Mavis & Jonathan (Hotel Transylvania) - Mavis is perhaps a little to cute. I mean kind of a strange crush on a little vampire girl, so yeah I am not against someone cosplaying her for me.

Nick Wilde & Judy Hopps (Zootopia) - A little bit anthropomorphizing of Nick and Judy but they got good chemistry and so do we.

Spinelli & T.J. (Recess) - Not to take an innocent toon in a wrong direction but you know they probably smoked weed in high school together and T.J. convinces her to wear a dress for prom but no doubt still has her boots on. They make a cute couple to say the least.

Finn & Fionna (Adventure Time) - Heroes of Adventure Time! Sadly (not really sad about that) I am not blonde but we can always up on some

Velma & Shaggy (Scooby Doo) - Yet another cartoon crush. I like a nerd and a little thick Velma.

Fred & Wilma (The Flintstones) - Costumes are epic enough being basically caveman tunics. I can get behind this costume more if we had a Pebbles or Bam Bam to take out trick or treating.

Movies

Black Widow & Captain America (Avengers) - If I could afford it I would be Stark. If my hair was longer I would be Thor. Perhaps Hawkeye would be a better pairing. Regardless Black Widow is a woman among many men. This means you get your pick of which hero I dress up as.

Sam & Suzy (Sunrise Kingdom) - Kind of a hipster approach towards Halloween but sometimes being a nitch audience is ok.

Max & Furiosa (Mad Max) - If my girlfriend had a buzzed head, (for whatever reason that was) Mad Max would be an awesome costume to do together.

Mask & Tina Carlyle (The Mask) - I am a big Jim Carry fan so any excuse to dress up as his characters is a win. Camren Diaz was also smoking hot in this film.

Ash & Sheila (Army of Darkness) - Ash is pretty badass and the number 1 reason to dress as him is to have a chainsaw on your hand and double barrel shotgun on your back.

Dorthy & Scarecrow (Wizard of Oz) - I can also be a Tinman or Lion for your pleasure. That and you can be a green witch... no, I think prefer Dorthy.

Mary Poppins & Bert (Mary Poppins) - This costume would be so much better if I could sing or dance but I can't so I won't.

Aragorn & Arwen (Lord of the Rings) - If I find a woman into the Lord of the Rings (and Game of Thrones) she might be a keeper.

Harry Potter & Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) - Am I the only one who is upset Harry didn't hook up with Hermione? Am I the only one upset Emma Watson didn't hook up with me? Am I rambling? Should I shut up now?

Peter & Gamora (Guardians of the Galaxy) - Might easily be my favorite couple in the MCU. Gonna be a long night painting my girlfriend green.

Beetlejuice & Miss Argentina (Beetlejuice) - Again painting the girlfriend green and myself white! I suppose you could be Lydia and I can actually do a great impression of Michael Keaton's Beetlejuice.

Morticia & Gomez Addams (The Addams Family) - I would pay Thing if I could but sadly I can not disembody may hand and have it run around. I will have to settle for Gomez but your free to pick between Morticia or Wednesday.

Wayne & Garth (Waynes World) - Playing to males? Meh sure. I loved this movie and I don't mind some cross-dressing for my partner. Just gonna be weird when Wayne makes out with Garth.

Shows

Burt Macklin & Janet Snakehole (Parks and Rec) - I am a special agent on a mission and your a wealthy widow with a secret. Only Parks and Recs fans will get this and that's just fucking great. Two rules though we don't break character and if I find a Johnny Karate, I must fight him.

Dexter Morgan & Hannah McKay (Dexter) - Might have been one of the hottest love scenes in a TV show ever. This costume works well with the plastic wrap and doubly fun to take it off you later.

Eleven & Mike (Stranger Things) - Pretty adorable couple on screen. Not sure about Season 2′s ‘rebel’ storyline in the city but still awesome all the same. I can't wait for season 3.

Batgirl/Catwoman & Batman (Batman Show) - I’m Batman. *Coughs* I mean I am dressed as Batman. The 1960′s Batman costume were simple but fun. Woman didnt look bad at all in their costumes either.

Daredevil & Electra (Daredevil) - I may keep it simple with the black mask and black shirt combo over the body armor. The good thing about those Marvel shows is the outfits are basic as hell.

William Riker & Deanna Troi (Star Trek) - Loved the TNG. Loved Star Trek. Can't go wrong with simple clothes and the Starfleet badge.

Comics/Video Games

Wonder Woman & Superman (DC Comics) - Open to interpretation about which Superman or Wonderwoman we are dressing up as. I have to admit the Wonder Woman movie costume was awesome.

Batman & Catwoman (DC Comics) - Few romances have ever been so ‘Cat and Mouse’ or rather ‘Bat and Cat’ than that of Batman and Catwoman. The skin-tight body suit and whip make Catwoman all that much alluring. You can decide if you want to go TV show, Cartoon, Comics, Video Game or Movie versions of Selena Kyle.

Rogue & Gambit (Marvel Comics) - A man with deep love and a woman who can never be touched by him (at least skin to skin). This is some Shakespeare level tragedy for this lovely duo.

Spiderman & Black Cat (Marvel Comics) - What can I say its the costume on Black Cat...

Link & Zelda (Legend of Zelda) - I am totally open to also as playing as Ganon if you want me to capture you and tie you down to the bed.

Misc

Mimes - A whole day of not talking to one another and miming shit out?! Sounds horrible lets just talk in private when no one is looking.

Fireman & Dalmation Girl - Who’s a good girl? Who’s a good girl? You are! Yes you are!

Little Red & Big Bad Wolf - I won't lie 90% of the reason this costume works is that it leads to sexy time in the bedroom.

Waldo & Wanda - We go to Good Will, buy a bunch of random junk. Write Property of Waldo on it and leave it around the neighborhood all night long. We can set up a Waldo themed house so people can bring items back to us.

Snail & Salt Shaker - Oh ho ho am I clever? Probably not someone has been bound to make a costume like this before. I think it be fun for you to avoid me the whole part as I walk around as a Salt Shaker.

Frankenstein & Bride of Frankenstein - Classic movie costume and its really all about the hair for the bride. I can imagine this being a big hit with the kids and fun for a monster movie night.

My vacation, Part 2: Colossalcon!

This is for everyone who keeps asking me how my time going home/at the convention was. Actually, I’m not very good with talking about my emotional reactions and things on the spot… I’m a writer. I do much better writing it out. So that’s what I’m doing now! If you’re one of those people who wanted to know, or are just curious, feel free to look under the cut!

Below is my experience at the convention! It’s long and will have photos, so check it out!

Wednesday

So I got to Kalahari around 5 and parked my car. It was still pretty early, so there was plenty of parking around. I went to check in, only to learn that my room was fairly close to where I parked my car! SCORE!

I then spent some time making trips to the room with my stuff... I brought a bunch of food, since I knew con food is really expensive, and the room itself was a lot... and I had a VIP pass, so this con was costly enough already. Heh... Luckily though, I got all of my stuff in just before the rain showed up!

My friend I was sharing the room with wasn’t going to arrive until Thursday afternoon, so I had this night to myself. I went and registered for the con and got my pass, then I proceeded to walk around... get the layout of the land, as it where. Alas, my phone was pretty full, so I didn’t take lots of pictures of everything I saw... In fact, I only took a few the whole weekend. But a lot of people took photos, so check out the colossalcon tag if you want an idea of what I saw! I wandered around for a while before heading back to the room and deciding to spend the night chilling... I took a nice bath in the giant tub, then spent the evening making a semi-update for Crimson Wings. That mutant class update? Yeah, I made it during this down time. Eventually I went to bed, knowing I’d have a long day following.

Thursday

The con officially began! I took my time waking up in the morning, and decided to explore for a while, waiting for my friend to arrive. I didn’t wear any cosplay that morning, wanting to save it for when she got there, and wanting to look at everything for a while as myself before I changed...

So I went! Not knowing what to do other then look around, I guessed. But luckily, I came across the usual “I need friends” signs that happen at cons. So, seeing as I was alone, I decided, “why not?” I approached, and made some new friends and we all hugged sexy Jesus (yes you just read that). You may have figured out by now that I don’t really like using people’s names on the Internet so... I’ll just say that the two girls had the same name and the guy’s name was my middle name! There, now some of you may know one of their names...

We hung out for a while and met up several times throughout the con! I’m very socially awkward at making friends, so I’m kind of proud that I managed it... But two of them were dressed as two of my favorite twins when I first saw them, so that helped! We went to the game room and played things for a while, mostly team music games. One of them was like a master at them, but we did pretty good as a team!

Eventually went to the craft fair and saw all the cool stuff people had made and were selling. Eventually my friend arrived and we had to split up, but like I said, I kept in contact with these guys after!

So I met up with my friend, the one who basically functions as my editor for my writing... Did you know my writing has an editor? Well, now you do. I helped get her stuff to the room, and while she got settled, I changed into my Edward Elric cosplay. I don’t have any pictures of this cosplay, but a bunch of people took photos of me, so if one turns up, I’ll put it here! We wandered about and I showed her around. And we finally started buying stuff. I got an Non-binary and an Ace-ace patch. I don’t know what I’m going to put them on, but I liked them! I also got one of those ironed-bead sprite Mad Dummy and a small fox pattern pouch... But then of course I finally found the plushies in the dealer room. And there... was a chubby lucario. I made him mine. ...Well, he was always mine, wasn’t he?! He’s actually under my arm right now as I type this! He’s some comfy! Oh, I can take a photo of him right now, can’t I?

Here he is! My fat boi! So chubby and cute, I love him!

Eventually my friend and I made it back to our room and chilled for the rest of the evening, eating snacks and reading webcomics. I’m pretty good and getting my friends into more webcomics, I think... I had her catch up on a pretty long one that night while we listened to the sounds of party around us.

Friday

Friday, oh boy what I day. It was certainly fun and interesting! So, I (and my grandma, she did the sewing part) worked very hard on a cosplay of RGB from The Property of Hate by @modmad.

I think it turned out very well, and you can see more pictures in my post here. But, being summer and all, it was very hot and the head was pretty much and oven. I could only wear it for bursts of 20 minutes to half an hour at a time before I’d need to go back to the room and rest. I still think it looked cool though, and some people recognized who I was so mission accomplished I guess! But also... @modmad, is his vision really as limited from that screen as I could see? Because there is no peripheral vision at all, someone get him a seeing-eye hero!

I wandered about the convention a lot that day sans the head so that I could... be alive, haha. But I bought myself some manga and ordered a commission that I will probably fill you all in more on later once it is made! ;3 (It’s Crimson Wings related.) It’s by the same artist I bought some buttons from a few years back... And I bought more buttons, of course! I needed my snoot-snoot seal!

In the evening, I had my VIP autograph session... I had brought something for most of them (at least the ones I had stuff for, unfortunately I didn’t own anything to bring for the two ladies :C). I knew I was going to be meeting Steve Blum, so I switched into my Terriermon outfit I had made with my grandma. At the session, I met up with the trio of friends from the other day (I had met up with them earlier that day too, but only for a few minutes). We talking in the lines and such while we waited! I got to meet a few awesome people, including Chris Patton, who I caved and bought a Greed poster to have him sign... I love Greed, you guys... I also met Vic Mignogna and had him sign my FMA Brotherhood DVD set, and met Steve Blum and had him sign my Digimon Tamers DVD (he also kept talking in Guilmon’s voice and I was losing it.) My friends also had Vic do the coffee scene from Ouran which you can see on one of their instagrams here! I also got photos with Vic and Steve because I am weak.

Awesomeness.

Then later that night my editor friend and I went to the Kalahari pool for the after hours time we had! We went nearing midnight, and did stuff like the wave pool, the hot tub, and the lazy river for a while. We were about to leave when I ran into the friend trio again, so we went back into the wave pool for a while before finally heading back to the room. It was like 3 in the morning and I had an early Nintendo photoshoot I wanted to get to!

Saturday

Saturday I cosplayed as Pit the whole day. Nintendo had an early photoshoot that day (well, early considering how late we were up that night and how it’d take a while to get dressed. We’re still waiting for all the photos to come out from it, but it’s page is here. And one photo is out at least with me and the other awesome Pit in it!

It was a lot of fun, and all the smash brothers poses and things were a blast and I hope more photos show up soon! Like we beat up Sandbag and there was the smash ball and-... lots of playing around, I hope they turn up. Unfortunately the Zelda shoot was at the same time, so no Zelda or Link for us... what’s up with that?

Anyway, after that my friend and I hung out in the room for a while, needing to relax after being up so early... I showed her some youtube videos and made her laugh so hard she fell off the bed. Good times! Then we headed back to the con and did more shopping around, smaller things like charms and stickers now, and went to some panels. I said good bye to my new trio of friends who were leaving that afternoon, and hopefully they are doing well!

By the evening I had to go to the room a while because I wasn’t feeling great... I actually bought some actual food at the con because the food we had was basically running out and I needed something to settle my stomach. But when we grabbed food we headed to the Masquerade (The skit / cosplay contest) and watched that! I still chuckle that Tony Stark was the host. It was a lot of fun, and the skits were fun, including some really good singers and a Nurse Joy who wanted to become a trainer (that one had some very clever props, just saying). And those cosplays were amazing. Much appreciation. The halftime show was hilarious, our side’s champion two girls beating the other side’s two men at a blind-folded donut eating contest-... It’s a long story, and this is long enough as it is, haha.

After it was over, my friend and I headed back to the room and ended the night watching some youtube.

Sunday

Alas, the con was basically over. I wore my Terriermon cosplay that day since it’s the simplest and isn’t hot. We had to check out by ten, and my friend had to leave at ten, so we basically got up in the morning, packed my car, and parted ways as she was picked up. I stayed a little longer to check out the flee market. I found some good stuff and spend more money (of course! More pokemon plush for me! ...And some really old digimon toys. Nice.) Once I felt I had checked everything out and had basically spent the last of the cash I had brought with me, I headed back out to my car to start my drive to my parent’s house... I arrived, and then had dinner with my family, including my aunt and uncle at a restaurant, then turned in for the night, having to catch an early flight back down here in the morning...

AND that was the con, everyone! It was a lot of fun and I tried to sort out as much as I could here! I hope that helped answer the basic question of how it was! If you have any more specific questions, feel free to ask!

Pokémon Villain-Champion Switch Scenarios Part 2 (well more like “villain is not the villain now and the rival is on some jelly-fish” scenario)

Yeah I’m still at it, now in Alola~. This time the prompts were:

Kukui wants to bring progress and a Pokemon league but in a dismissive manner towards Alola’s traditions.

Hau takes Guzma’s words way worse to heart, eventually winds up stumbling upon nihilego and going batshit.

I took some liberties with it and this came out. And this ended in an even longer post than ever before, even with a Rainbow Episode-like postgame and all. You are all warned. (Check out Hoenn, Sinnoh and Kalos here)

Intruders have invaded Aether Foundation, and the alarm has been set.

Is the Ultra Recon Squad.

Lusamine in this world didn't fall into despair after the wormhole incident with Mohn because she thought her kids needed their mother more than ever now, so she is way more sane this time around.

There isn't much in the Foundation except for their Ultra Space research, so she fears these strangers are trying to get Nebby. Lusamine asks Lillie to run away with it and to look for Burnet, an old friend of hers. She will keep them safe.

Lillie then runs away but is almost caught by the URS. Nebby manages to teleport them away before it's too late though.

Lillie then gets lost, but is found by Burnet anyway, who in turn asks her husband Kukui to care for them while she investigates some more on this whole Ultra Wormhole business that seems related to Nebby and the URS.

Everything should be ok now, right?

Three months later, you are a kid from Kanto who just moved to Alola for reasons.

Fastforward here, you go to the tall grass, get your starter from Kukui, then go to meet the kahuna to make it official, meet Lillie, almost fall from the bridge, sparkling stone, festival oh wow even marawis made this thing the same story!

The similarities stop right in the festival though.

Hau was introduced as "the kahuna's grandson" in what was pretty much his debut battle to the town, and he lost to you, a foreigner "who met Tapu Koko".

Is pretty obvious he is hurt by how the battle ended, but still tries to fake a smile and say that "it was fun".

Nebby keeps getting out of the fucking bag, and two members of the URS are nearby looking at the whole place.

One wants to just go and grab Nebby, but the other says they must wait a bit, since it is a bad idea to go in when the place is full of trainers, and a kahuna to boot.

You go to Kukui's place, where he gives you the Rotom Dex.

He then asks you what do you think about the Pokémon League in Kanto. You mention that you have an autograph from a gym leader. You love the system and can't wait to go in a pokémon adventure of your own in Alola.

Kukui is sorry to break the news to you, but Alola doesn't have a League. They have an Island Challenge, so you will have to go with that for now.

But don't worry! Kukui is already working on getting a Pokémon League in Alola. Or at least he would, if the local system wasn't so obstructive on the matter.

Hala and Olivia are ok with the idea, but Nanu refuses to give his vote and there is no kahuna in Poni, not much that can't be done unless you have all the voted to your favor.

Oh well, Island Challenge will be.

You go around doing your usual stuff in the first island, with Lillie at your side because she feels safe with you.

A couple of Team Skull members approach you and challenge you to a battle, all while asking you to get away from the girl.

Of course, it isn't until you beat them that they make clear they thought you were a kidnapper or something, and were just trying to save Lillie.

They can't tell you much on the matter (mostly because they don't understand), but they were asked to keep an eye on Lillie by their boss, so they warn you to not try anything harmful for her, or they will have to do more than just bad hip-hop.

Lillie is confused, but doesn't try to give it too much thought neither.

You move to the next island with Kukui, Lillie and Hau.

Hau leaves to who knows where once you all arrive, and Kukui also leaves because he has some stuff to do. He is a busy man now.

You explore the place with Lillie. When you try to go into the Tunnel for the first time, the URS appears.

Lillie recognizes them and asks you to run.

The URS won't let her go now, not when they finally managed to get them on an isolated area.

Battle starts.

The first URS trainer is terrible so you defeat them easily.

The other one wants to give it a try but they are then interrupted by the Team Skull music in the background.

They may not be any better than the URS in trainer skills but still challenge them into battle so you can get away. After all, you were told they had orders from their boss to keep an eye on Lillie, weren't you?

You manage to get away, and ask Lillie what the hell is going on.

Lillie doesn't really want to break it all to you just now, at least not herself. She tells you to follow her to Burnet's work place.

You go there and Burnet explains to you all there is to know about Ultra Wormholes and Ultra Beasts, or at least the few stuff we know so far.

Burnet also takes the chance to ask why Kukui is not with you all, and Lillie just says he left to do something.

Burnet is a bit annoyed but it can't be helped. It must be related to all the League paperwork her husband is stuck with since forever.

You then go to do your usual trial stuff with Lillie still around. In the middle of the road you encounter Hau who feels confident in his abilities and challenges you to a battle.

You win, and Hau still tries to fake a smile, saying that even if he lost it was still fun!

Someone who was watching the battle can't believe he is seriously saying that, and says that if he keep that mediocre mindset he will never get better.

It's Gladion.

Lillie recognizes her brother, and is both happy and shocked to see him, asking him where he was these last 2 years.

Gladion is a chuuni so he can't explain all the details, but lets us know he is working with Team Skull and that he heard about the orders to protect Lillie and about the fight they had with the guys from the URS. He doesn't know why Team Skull suddenly cares about her nor who these guys are, but asks you to stay alert anyway, since he doesn't really trust the Team. He then leaves.

Hau tries to not think about Gladion's words.

You visit the Battle Royal Dome for your obligatory tutorial with Masked Royal, who is totally not Kukui.

You and Lillie aren't fooled tho, you aren't Hau after all.

Lillie thinks Kukui must be doing this Battle Royal stuff to get some extra money for his League project. What a devoted man.

You finish your trial business, but right after your final battle with the kahuna you meet Faba with his gay partner an Aether employee, although Faba doesn't really look like, well, Faba. He is using a cloak to try to disguise himself, with little success if Lillie's reaction is anything to go by.

"This is why I hate kids!"

Faba escaped from the URS's takeover of the Foundation a few weeks ago, and has been hiding.

Lillie asks how everyone is doing in there.

Faba refuses to talk on the matter, and just tells Lillie to stay away from this mess as much as she can, or otherwise the URS will get their hands on what they want and Faba's work will be all for nothing.

With not much you can do and finally solving this puzzle on your own (since Lillie still doesn't want to do healthy communication), you leave to Ula'Ula, arriving to not-Johto Town.

There you find Kukui having a talk with another guy, but seems the tension is growing between them a bit.

The other guy of course is Guzma. He seems to be accusing Kukui of being an idiot and a hypocrite. Kukui says he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Guzma screams at him to stop feigning innocence. He saw the construction workers near Tapu Village and is not a secret that Kukui wants to do a Pokémon League.

Guzma doesn't mind the idea, and in fact is all for Alola finally being on par with other regions, but he is well aware that Kukui is doing all of this without the permission of all the kahunas. And is doing construction in a sacred area too.

"You know what happened to Tapu Village just for a supermarket, what do you think will happen with what you are doing in Mount Lanakila?"

Kukui won't take these words from Guzma of all people tho. What does Guzma care about traditions anyway? He who went and revived the team made by that rebel kahuna. If anyone should be getting the tradition talk is Guzma, not him.

Kukui stops the argument once he sees you and Lillie, and leaves.

Guzma is really pissed and with some desire to beat the crap out of someone, so he challenges you to a battle.

You win, and Guzma is more pissed. But at the same time it sure feels nice to let the frustration out, so it's all good now.

You may have gotten the idea by listening to Kukui, but still he introduces himself as the leader of Team Skull. He then recognizes Lillie, and mentions that she indeed looks a bit similar to the Aether prez.

Lillie is surprised, and asks him if he knows her mother.

He does. She supported him back when no one else would and is grateful to her. So when she suddenly called him and asked him to protect Lillie, he agreed without a doubt, even if that's not exactly what Team Skull is about.

He assures you his team will be around to check on your safety, and seems they have already fought the URS more times. Still, you shouldn't let your guard down just because of that. After all, what good does a weak trainer?

You leave to do your trial stuff still, but now the NPCs are doing some talk around. They have noticed the construction work in Mount Lanakila, and most of them aren't happy about it.

You reach Tapu Village and understand what all that talk comes from.

You encounter Kukui there, and question him about going on with the League project without all the votes and permissions.

Kukui is still on a good mood about this. He says he is sure there is no problem with it. If the Tapus had any problem they would have already acted about it.

You have some serious doubts on that statement since Tapu Bulu didn't rage against the supermarket until it was finished and construction for those things aren't done in a day.

Kukui still thinks you worry too much, and leaves to do other business somewhere else.

But whatever, you still have to do some trial stuff to do, which btw is taking it's sweet ass time to get done, looking at these many points I have done already.

Hau catches up to you and challenges you to another battles. You win again.

You are all expecting him to smile and say he had fun, but he acts more pissed out this time, and saying a PG curse under his breath.

You keep curbstomping him, so he starts to wonder if everyone else in the island is going easy on him just for being the grandson of a kahuna.

He is not in the mood to try the Ghost trial after this, so you leave Lillie with him in the Aether House that Acerola helps on. It seems the URS's influence hasn't reached there.

But when you come back oh surprise was that a big mistake.

On your way there you find Skull members in shock about what happened, screaming and crying about how if only they managed to finish their Island Challenge then maybe they would have been strong enough to stop those blue weirdos.

At the house Hau is hating himself on how weak he was, how he couldn't protect Lillie and instead she had to let the blue guys take her away to save him.

Lillie has been kidnapped for real.

Gladion arrives and of course is fucking pissed at Hau after listening to that.

If Hau just stopped being such a mediocre trainer earlier on, this wouldn't have happened!

But ok no time to panic, we need as much help as we can to save Lillie, so he has to tag along with us.

Since the URS took over the Foundation, is pretty much a given that is the first place to look around.

You all go to the port and are met with this Skull Ferry (I still can't believe it was a thing).

Guzma is there waiting for you. It's time to go and play hero for once.

You go to Aether Foundation, where you are greeted by Employees with Nihilego hats. The place doesn't look like the Foundation from the intro scene neither.

This is all starting to look more and more disturbing the more you get in.

You make your way to Lusamine's main room to reach the room where all the creepy stuff takes place on.

The URS is there, with a captive Lusamine getting high on Nihilego toxins, and Lillie caged in another corner.

Nebby is trapped and unable to teleport away.

Well this wasn't what you expected when you heard Alola was a chill place.

The URS members feel like having a chat, so they tell you what they did.

Lusamine refused to give them access to her technology, it was a very difficult task to make any progress like this.

They found good old Mohn's research on Nihilego though, and with it they used their own Wormhole to open a portal to Nihilego's dimension.

They let the Nihilegos prey on everybody in the Foundation, which gave them enough freedom to finally access what they wanted.

You see, they have their own technology to travel and all, but Aether had way more means to accomplish the plan they have in mind, all for the greater good!

Their world is suffering. Is a world of darkness.

A very long time ago, their source of light died, but a pokémon made of pure light appeared and let them survive.

Their people became greedy, and tried to control the pokémon by force, making it lose it's light and be in pain.

They now need to find a way to restore the pokémon to it's original state, or else they will die. And for that they need a Solgaleo or Lunala, the legendary pokémon from Alolan Legends.

Of course, they DO have one of those, or else they wouldn't be able to do this wormhole travel. But then again, if they lose their Legendary they wouldn't be able to travel anywhere, is in their best interest to find one in another world and use it to feed their Light.

So now they will take Nebby and make it evolve in their world.

They thank you all for being a nuisance and leave with Nebby, but not without sending some Nihilegos to you to stop you from following them.

You of course aren't buying any of this and run right behind them to follow them through their wormhole.

You were followed by Gladion and Guzma, good thing all the gang is here! We aren't forgetting anyone at all.

You reach Ultra Megalopolis and go throught he only hallway there is in the whole place.

You find the URS and you are really pissed off, wondering if they really had to do this convoluted plan and if they couldn't just migrate to another world if they have Wormhole Travel Express.

It's not so simple. It seems their Light pokémon can also do wormhole travel and if they just leave like that it will reach a point where it may go out to hunt for light all by itself.

"Y'all are stupid."

You ask them where is Nebby.

They tell you that with the borrowed technology, the cloud is on it's way to reach it's final evolution and be fed to their light pokémon, not much for you to do now.

You call bullshit and go up their weird tower they have. Seriously this city is a disaster, which architect greenlighted this?

You reach the top right on time to see that this light pokémon is Necrozma, and it just did some questionable methods of fusion with the evolved Nebby.

You fight and defeat it, freeing Nebby in the process too.

The URS panics and in a moment of scared retardation they send their Legendary against you.

Necrozma then grabs the URS' legendary and fuses with it instead, and reaches it's final form.

Necrozma has not forgotten what the people from this world did to it, so it starts to rage and destroy the whole place.

The URS doesn't even have time to ask for you to help them, for they are the first to bite the dust.

Nebby picks you all and returns to your world before Necrozma can burn you out too, arriving at the Lake.

You take the moment to take a break, but this is far from over. Gladion reminds you that you need to go back to the Aether Foundation and get rid of those Nihilego hats.

You all go to the Foundation and start making those Nihilegos faint with Nebby's help.

You even manage to save Lusamine, yay for you.

Lillie apparently looks too much like a Nihilego so they didn't really bother to suck her head. Good thing we guess.

You wonder where is Hau, but Lillie doesn't known what happened to him after you all left through the wormhole since the light of it was too intense and she couldn't make out much of it.

Gladion thinks he may have gotten away, since he isn't really a strong trainer, he must be smart enough to run away. You hope so.

Faba suddenly appears with some medical help, all while acting as if saving the Foundation was his doing (from a mastermind point, that is). None of you take that and Guzma outright bullies him on the spot.

Lillie is grateful for your help on this, and for saving Nebby too. She entrusts Nebby to you since you seem to be a strong trainer, and she decides it's time to let you go on your own, since she now has to take care of her mother after all that Nihilego juice. Gladion will also stay behind this time.

It's ok, you have no time to waste on this plot. You still have some trial stuff to do! That's why you play this game after all.

Guzma gives you a ride back to Ula'Ula on the Skull Ferry, since you still have to fight the kahuna of the place.

You go to Po Town and visit Nanu on the house he is staying in.

At first he is all "go away kid I'm on my free day", but Guzma calls him out to do his duties, this kid here was a hero a few moments ago!

Oh well. Nanu fights you and you complete the Ula'Ula stuff.

Guzma gives you a ride to Poni. He wishes to fight you once you finish the Challenge.

Poni doesn't have much to offer, except for that stoner girl who can't come up with a trial. You are encountered by Hapu tho, who just got named Kahuna by Tapu Fini.

You battle her and win, congratulations you finished your Island Challenge!

But we still have more to do.

Tradition says you have to do a Boss Rush with all the kahunas, but for now things can't be done like that.

Now that Hapu is a kahuna, she wants to have a serious talk with Kukui, who just went on and began construction of a League in sacred grounds without permission, and she wants to do it before the Tapus run out of patience on the matter.

You go back to Tapu Village with her, and there you meet with the other kahunas too. Hala and Olivia are a bit hurt about this trust betrayal. Nanu just wants to avoid having to deal with an angry Bulu if things don't get resolved.

You go all the way up the mountain.

Seems construction of the place is almost done, and Kukui just came back from where he left a few points ago.

He is really excited about the news he has. The International Pokémon Company, er I mean, League Association said all the construction's regulations are in order so they are all ready to add Alola to the group of leagues. He only needs the local authorities (aka the kahunas) to sign it and Alola will finally be on the map as a serious place and not just some tourist hole.

Hala stops him bluntly.

He tells Kukui he was aware that Alola needed to finally move on and make some progress to get with the times of the rest of the world, but he is hurt that Kukui went ahead with his plans without waiting for Nanu to give his vote nor for Tapu Fini to choose a kahuna. Olivia seconds his opinion.

Nanu then says Kukui is really dumb if he thought the Tapus not acting right away meant they were giving him the thumbs up. At best, the Tapus are waiting for him to finish the whole project before coming and blast it away. That's the kind of karmic punishment they like to do.

Hapu says she knows Kukui meant no harm, but still the way he acted on it was what made them all decide to not greenlight this League project.

Yeah that's right. They are all voting now to decline the League.

Kukui finally stops being all merry on the matter, and gets angry at this sudden turn of events.

"See this is why Alola can't move forward!"

Kukui blames this antiquated system as the reason Alola is stuck in the past. People live just following these traditions blindly, without wondering if they are truly necessary anymore.

Kanto and many other regions do well without kahunas saying what people can and can't do, for one!

Kukui asks you for validation on this.

You agree that Kanto doesn't really have such a strong presence of a high authority nor guardian deities, but that doesn't mean Alola should work the same way. There must be a middle ground between tradition and progress, you think.

Well, there is only one way to decide this, a method that is probably the only timeless thing in the Pokémon World: a pokémon battle.

The battle for the fate of Alola's ways starts!

You fight Kukui and defeat him.

An awkward silence follows, which is not broken until Kukui talks.

Your moves were really strong and well coordinated, you truly are a talented trainer.

He agrees on at least stick with traditions this time and cancel the League project. There is no point on forcing progress like this, or else he will be met with even more opposition and no one will be happy.

Hala is happy that Kukui listens to reason, and promises that if he works hard on making ammends they can rethink this whole League thing.

Everything is good now, you think.

Until a weak laugh sounds.

Your turn around and are greeted with a disturbing image.

Hau was standing right behind you, with a Nihilego at his side.

Hau applauds the whole scene. How everything was all just decided with a pokémon battle.

Kukui's beliefs, ideals and convictions he holded for years, all meant nothing the moment an 11 year old kid defeated his pokémon team. What a funny world we all live in. All so simple.

Hala is worried and asks Hau what's wrong. Hau screams him to shut up. He is not in the mood to listen to another lecture of his.

Hau is tired, you know? All so tired. He at first hated his father for leaving his family behind, not being able to live under the shadow of the mighty kahuna Hala. But now he understands what his father felt all his life.

Ever since he got his Pichu, everyone was comparing him to Hala. 'Oh I bet you will be as strong as your tutu!' 'Are you going to specialize on electric types instead of fighting like your grandpa?' 'You have a Pichu because Raichu can beat your granfather's type, right?'. So annoying! He hates his stupid town!

He at first thought if he only concentrated on battling for fun and not to win, he would overcome this sentiment, but it didn't work.

His debut battle against you only left shame to him. The grandson of the kahuna, defeated by a foreigner. And Tapu Koko recognized him instead of the great kahuna's grandson. That is a really shitty burden to have.

And of course, the next battles didn't help. The only fights he won were against people who were very aware of who his grandfather was. Even he could tell Olivia went easy on him on the trial battle, even after she gave him that talk about being himself.

And of course there were Gladion's words and how he couldn't save Lillie from the URS. It was all because he wasn't a strong trainer. Because he couldn't be like you.

You don't really know what to tell him to make him feel better, but not that it will matter. He has been under Nihilego's influence for too long, you doubt your words can really reach him.

Nanu is the only other who understands what is going on. He tries to talk down Hau while getting ready to battle and knock out the jellyfish.

Nihilego is not taking any of that and throws an attack at Nanu, leaving him unconscious.

Everyone else also gets ready to fight while still trying to talk some reason to Hau.

Hapu tells him she understands what he was through. After her grandfather died, she was sure Tapu Fini would choose her to be the next kahuna, but it didn't happen. She then traveled all around the islands, training and getting stronger until Tapu Fini recognized her strenght. She is sure that Hau only needs to believe on himself and train to get stronger.

Hau says that isn't necessary, not anymore. Not now that he got Nihilego with him.

You don't like where this is all going.

Nihilego is set and absorbs Hau, fusing with him.

The other kahunas try to fight him, but he and his team with boost auras defeat them easily.

Kukui tries to stop Hau. Being used to test pokémon moves on himself, he manages to withstand his attack's more than the others but is still left on the ground.

Kukui wasn't really trying to defeat Hau himself, but analize what they were going against.

Before falling unconscious he tells you all he could get from his moves. Nihilego must be Rock/Poison, but most of his moves are Poison type. What you do with this information is all on you.

This is your real final boss battle.

Hau first sends 5 pokémon with boost aura against you. You manage to defeat them, but now comes your worst fear. Now you have to fight the Hau/Nihilego fusion.

The fight is tough, but mostly because you are afraid of hurting Hau.

Hau takes out most of your team. You need to stop him.

Remember the professor's words. Rock/Poison, Poison moves. Don't you have something powerful enough and with type advantage to that?

You send out Nebby as your last pokémon, your very last hope to stop and save Hau.

Nebby fights and weakens Hau enough to make the Nihilego get away from him, and Nebby returns it to it's rightful dimension.

You approach Hau, who is lying in the ground, barely awake.

He asks you if you are hurt. You are ok. He smiles and apologizes for the trouble. You ask him if he really hates you, to which he replies he never did.

He then falls unconscious.

All fades to black.

It has been days since that happened, and you haven't heard much of Hau's state.

You don't even care about not being able to finish your Island Challenge yet, you just want to know if Hau is doing well.

Suddenly Kukui arrives. He has good news for you. Hau is doing well, the doctors they brought from Kanto managed to take away all of Nihilego's neurotoxins out of his system, and you can go visit him now.

You of course go to check him out.

Hau is genuinely happy to see you. He apologizes again for all the trouble he caused and for the nasty words he said.

He can't say those weren't his feelings, but still it was really rude to just scream them like that. You tell him it's all ok, no harm done.

Hau then asks you how your Challenge went. You haven't finished it yet. He then tells you that he heard the kahunas were all ready to be challenged at Mount Lanakila, and asks you to go and be a Challenge Champion for them both.

You promise you will win, for them both.

You go to Mount Lanakila, and meet the kahunas there.

Yes, even Nanu is there. Not that he really wants to.

They are ready to give you your Boss Rush, so you can finally be the Champion.

You fight them all at their strongest, and win.

Hapu asks you to follow her.

Why is she taking you to the cancelled League building?

Once you reach the Champion's room, Hapu smiles and asks you to register your pokémon for the Hall of Fame.

The project will take a while to be greenlighted, but is good if they already have a Champion for when it happens.

Congratulations, you are Alola's First Champion!

Postgame happens, your mom still has your stuff in boxes.

Someone knocks on your door and she asks you to go see who it is.

You don't even reach the living room and you already hear the door open.

"Wow they don't lock the doors here neither."

"That doesn't mean you can get in just like that!"

Hey a tanned guy and a nerd are in your house now.

The guy in glasses apologizes for the way they got in, and introduces them both. He is Maxie and the other guy is Archie, they both come in representation of Hoenn.

Usually when a new region gets a League, it just gets credited and they are all done with it. But seems Alola is a different case.

The kahunas sent a note to the League Association, saying that the Tapus told them they were going to accept this League stuff on their grounds only if they could test the elected Champion.

This is a bit of a special case, so the League Association needs to make sure all this passing gets recorded because...

"What do I know? Weird traditions of yours."

Archie tells you to go to Mahalo Trail to start this process, and he and Maxie leave, since he wants to go check the stores from Hau'oli City.

You go to Mahalo Trail.

Once you reach the place you meet with Hala, who introduces you to the League member who will supervise your battle against Koko: Kanto-Johto former champion Giovanni.

Giovanni has heard stories about Tapu Koko's love for battles, so he expects your trial to be an interesting sight. He could also learn a thing or two from Alola's regional guardian pokémon with that (remember, he is a researcher now).

You go to the Ruins of Conflict, and get your Totem battle with Tapu Koko.

A tough battle, but you manage to win.

Giovanni congratulates you and tells you your next point are the Akala Outskirts. For now he must leave to fill his report for the League.

You leave to the Akala Outskirts now. There Olivia meets you.

Or at least she would, if she wasn't so busy trying to woo Maxie there.

A redhead who knows how to appreciate rocks is a rare sight in Alola after all, better get him now.

Maxie doesn't mind the attention, but Archie takes the opportunity of you being there to stop this nonsense.

You being there means you already defeated one Tapu, Olivia is proud. But she warns you that Lele can be quite merciless despite being known as a healer, so she warns you to not let your guard down.

Archie and Maxie are a bit worried, since their experience with 'merciless' local deities isn't the best, but they trust Lele won't go apocalyptic on the region.

You all go to the Ruins of Life.

Now that you are there the battle against Tapu Lele can be done.

You fight Totem Tapu Lele and win, as usual for you.

Archie gets all excited and congratulates you on passing this test. Maxie is more calm about it and informs you that Haina Desert is your next stop.

You leave to Haina Desert.

No familiar face is waiting there for you, just a blue-haired guy with an emotionless face.

He introduces himself as Cyrus, the former champion of Sinnoh. He is here to see how you do against this so called Tapu Bulu. He is also interested on exploring the desert, since it is said to be an ever changing maze. It kinda reminds him of a place he was on a few years ago, and wants to know how such a place works in this dimensional plain.

You navigate the desert, get lost a few times until you finally reach the Ruins of Abundance.

Knowing Tapu Bulu's description, Cyrus wonders if the Desert is the way it is so Bulu can be left alone.

No time for getting all existential, you have to fight your Tapu.

You battle against Totem Tapu Bulu and win. Is kinda easy when his terrain heals you tbqh.

Cyrus is satisfied with what he saw, and tells you you are almost done with this test thing. Your last stop is the Poni Breaker Coast.

You arrive to Poni Breaker Coast.

Not a soul there to greet you. Hu.

You walk a bit to get to the Ruins of Hope, and right in the entrance you meet Hapu and other guy.

They notice your presence and the lion-hair guy introduces himself as Lysandre, Kalos' former champion.

Hapu says she was just talking with Lysandre about how exactly the people in Poni live, since he was wondering how they manage in such a hostile island. He is quite amazed with the way the Seafolk people live. Like water nomads of sorts. An interesting way of living.

But enough of this boring chat, you must want to fight Tapu Fini.

You all go to the Ruins of Hope and there Fini makes a presence. Lysandre is astonished at how beautiful the Tapu is, and guesses it's beauty must match it's strenght in battle.

You fight Totem Tapu Fini who spams Aqua Ring and is a pain in the ass for stalling, but you manage to take it down.

Lysandre is amazed at your skill, and Hapu congratulates you for passing the test of the Tapus. Now the League can be greenlighted for real this time!

Lysandre interrupts the merry celebration though, saying they aren't really done yet.

Yes, the League Association sent him and the other former champions to be witnesses of this "ritual", but they all agreed on their way there that it would be a waste to only let the Tapus test the Alolan Champion.

Oh yeah, you are set for a Champion Boss Rush now.

Lysandre asks you to get ready, they will all be waiting for you at Mount Lanakila, where the League should be set.

You go to Mount Lanakila yet again, and there meet the former champions.

They all have seen your skill and strenght in battle, now they want to test your Champion material.

No more teams of 5 pokémon, no more easy mode. No. You better get ready for full teams of level 80 with held items, perfect IVs, trained EVs and no brakes on the rape train.

You at least get the chance to choose the order you fight them in.

When you get to choose Archie and Maxie, they ask you who you want to fight, but no matter which of the two you pick they say they were joking. No escape from the double battle here.

After you defeat them all, they welcome you to the ever growing club of regional Champions, and wish you the best of lucks to hold that title for a very long time.

bit of a rant/review of pokemon the movie i choose you

Ok. Can we talk about the Pokémon movie? It was a beautiful fucking mess.

Why?

Let me preface this by saying I am a huge Pokénerd and am a fan of the games and anime (I haven’t watched it in years but what I have seen recently I enjoyed). Saying that, I also am someone who won’t take “well it’s just a kid’s show/movie, it doesn’t have to be good” as an excuse ever, especially with well-done kid’s movies are coming out every year at this point.

So. Like I said previously. It was a beautiful, terrible hot mess.

A h o t mess

Let’s start with why I thought it was terrible (and weed out the butthurt fans right off the bat)

Story wise, there were issues. Since they crammed the entirety of season 1 into it with different characters and picked the best episodes of the season as story points.

Like I would compare it to The Last Airbender movie in how over-stuffed it was in story, since that movie also tried to an entire season into a movie, but I can’t compare them because The Last Airbender movie is actual garbage and this movie is.....not that.

Main complaint is movie length. Why is it so short when it could have been so much longer and filled with more character interaction and development?? I’m not asking for Pixar quality because I’m not expecting Pixar, but if you’re gonna introduce us to new characters and expect us to love them and miss them when they leave, give us a bit more to go on than just snapshots of their journey. Speaking of snapshots, though, I did like that little touch of Verity going through her phone to show the moments they’ve all been together -- clever, time-saving story-telling choice, that.

“No one watches/plays Pokémon for the story/characters” -- WELL I DO. THEY’VE DONE IT IN THE PAST AND MADE A MEMORABLE STORY AND GAME FOR US, SO THEY CAN DO IT AGAIN. Have you even SEEN Pokemon Mewtwo Strikes Back? BECAUSE BOI THERE WERE TEARS AND IT WAS THE BEST.

Just...The reason the other Pokémon movies worked so well/better is because we knew the characters involved aside from Ash. If we’re being introduced to new characters in this movie, give us a reason to care about them.

There was also just very little tension because I knew that they were just highlighting parts of the first season (or so), so whatever problem they had would be worked out by the end. Also, because it’s Pokémon and Ash is an OP MC.

My boi Sorrel tho

I love Sorrel, though. A+ dude. I wish he had more screen time because he's such a cute little bean and I FUCKING CRIED when his Luxray died HGHSJJJJjdee (but does he only have Lucario?? Like I know he was too afraid to love a Pokémon after Luxray, but boy are you seriously going on your own with one mon???)

I was also happy to see that he found Articuno, but WOW these kids are lucky because together they’ve all seen like four legendaries (Entei, Raikou, Suicine, Ho-Oh) in the span of a year (or so?) Some people, apparently, don’t see legendaries EVER and these kids see FOUR? I know it’s because plot but dang.

Verity (like the lake!)

Verity (ha her name is Verity and she's from a region with a lake named Verity lol) kind of just reminded me too much of Misty with her Pokémon being water types. If they were gonna add that little background about her mom, I wish they would have done more with it. Like...explain how she uses water types because her mom loved water types. She uses a Piplup because her mom has an Empoleon. I just wanna know MORE about her. GIVE ME MOREEEE DANG IT

I also def thought they were gonna have her mom as someone we've met in the games/show before, but no. Just random, faceless character we never see/meet.

Angry child Cross who is essentially Kacchan from My Hero

Can we talk about Cross for a second?

Yes, he’s an asshole, but, especially with that little redemption arc, he’s not EVIL. Like I know they needed someone to set off all the bad things, but this boy doesn’t have an evil heart. Just say....like a darkened heart or whatever because if he was evil he wouldn’t get a redemption arc like that. He’s just a proud asshole who believes in strength over friendship.

Honestly, true antagonist is Marshadow because WOW SOMEONE NEEDS TO COOL THEIR JETS. I was also incredibly confused as to if Marshadow was good or bad.... Like they say its a guide and someone who restores the balance or fixes the Ho-Oh feather, which sounds like a good guy, but this little bitch was stirring up all the trouble and ends up being the main villain like good lord what is going on.

The animation, the colors

Damn I forgot how good the battles look. Like DAMN. So much tension for a battle I know Ash is gonna win. So much hype when LITERALLY NO ONE UNDERSTANDS TYPE MATCHUPS LIKE A PIPLUP VS A PIKACHU THE PIKACHU WILL WIN IDIOTS

Ahem. But I'm probably thinking too much like the games and not the show which kind of throws the games out the window so whatever.

But yeah, man, I forgot how beautiful something can be when it goes onto the big screen. Like, the Pokémon anime has always had a certain look, a certain charm to it (yes, even in the Sun and Moon series), but it just looked so great and beautiful and gorgeous and lovely on the screen and I’m honestly excited for it to come out on DVD/BluRay whatever so I can see it again.

Ok...it’s not Your Name or a Ghibli film. But...it’s still a very pretty Pokémon movie and it touches my nostalgic, nerdy heart.

ALL THE NOSTALGIA

You read my complaints above, but I will admit that, while it was a bit ridiculous to cram the entire first season into one movie, I enjoyed that it was a celebration of sorts of the show from its beginning? Which was honestly great. They had all of the best, most memorable moments from the show (the pilot -- obviously, finding Charmander, Bye Bye Butterfree). I was near tears a few times with all the nostalgia, guys.

I wish they had brought back Misty and Brock if they wanted to really really celebrate the first season, but c’est la vie.

AND THEN THAT THEME SONG GAVE ME LEGIT CHILLS. I DON’T CARE THAT IT WAS REMIXED. I HAD CHILLS. GOOSEBUMPS E V E R Y W H E R E.

I saw the theme song remix on YouTube prior to seeing the movie and I felt all the nostalgia then, so you’d think I wouldn’t get chills when I saw it.

Welp, we’d both be wrong then. Because ALL THE CHILLS. ALL THE HYPE FOR THE REST OF THE MOVIE. IT WAS GLORIOUS. (imma put it on repeat after i post this, tbh.)

Other things that don’t really have a place elsewhere

Also, this was pretty much the X-Men days of future past of Pokemon. Tbh. Because, unless this is just AU first season? (I can’t remember if this was confirmed to be just the alternate universe first season), it’s like they’re saying well, here’s the NEW beginning of the show so now we can do whatever we want woo! (Jesus I sound like Kukui)

Speaking of doing whatever they want...

PIKACHU SAID WORDS??? ENGLISH? WHYY???????????? I WAS SO CONFUSED AND WONDERED IF MY SODA HAD BEEN SPIKED

I know they were trying to do the throwback to Mewtwo Returns (BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THAT WAS ONE OF, IF NOT THE, BEST MOVIES AND SO DOES THE POKÉMON COMPANY) and we all want to remember why we love Ash and Pikachu so much and why THEY care about each other so much. But....that was.......strange. Maybe the Japanese audience liked it more because that seems to be the only opinion they really care about, but I know I wasn’t the only one in the theatre just staring at the screen in confusion asking what the actual f u c k was going on.

Last things

I may have my complaints -- that I’m throwing out into the ether just to get them out of my head -- but that doesn’t mean I disliked it.

It’s still Pokémon and I’m still a fan and everyone will still be fans regardless of any issues with the movie, any story problems, any characters featured (or lack thereof **MISTY AND BROCK).

With its beautiful animation, particularly in the battles, and gorgeous set pieces, because WOW did you say some of the views they had?, it was nice to see Pokémon celebrated with an old story told with a fresh coat of paint.

This movie may not be the best. It may not be Pokemon: The First Movie Mewtwo Strikes Back (honestly, most movies aren’t that, so that might be a bit unfair to say.) But it’s still got that Pokémon charm we all know and love and has some pretty cool characters along the way. It’s definitely something that every Pokémon fan, young or old, new or a veteran, should watch and enjoy. Because, despite its flaws, it reminds you of better times, nostalgic times.

It reminds you of that first time you played the game or watched the show, when your biggest choice was your starter Pokémon and adventure was just outside the door, waiting for you to take the first step.

(Yes, I’m basically saying nostalgia is what powers this movie, but we’re celebrating the 20th anniversary, so of course there will be nostalgia.)

Some fandoms can’t say they’ve been around for over 20 years -- but Pokémon, with its die-hard fans and ever-growing fanbase who will support just about anything that comes out relating to the games/show, can. And the movie understands that. It understands that just about everyone who sees it will put on their hat, grab their Pokémon, and sit in those theatre seats like we’re all excited 10 year olds waiting to go on our own journeys, waiting to revisit the world of Pokémon regardless of how good the movie is. And that, the strength of the fans and the perpetual love of the series, in my opinion, is the greatest strength.

Have any tips for starting a daily pokemon blog?

Ahhh i’m not sure if I’m a good person to ask but I can try to give some tips! (I think I’ve been asked this in the past too but my nets not really letting me go look right now)

Also this got a little long so I’m sorry ;v; Also i’d take everything I say with a grain of salt, I’m just a nervous person who loves serperior

But if you want to start a pokemon blog, defs pick a pokemon you not only love but love to draw! Doesn’t matter if it’s been done before, it hasn’t been done in your style! Everyone will add their own touch to how they draw. Like no lie one of my fav things is seeing how various people interpret a pokemon, heck even when they interpret YOUR pokemon (I may or may not have several things saved of people drawing Ex in their style cuz its so COOOLLLLLLL, let alone my serp folder)

Sometimes though the pokemon may be hard to draw and you may get frustrated. Like I know I could never run a sceptile blog like my friend does. ( @weekly-megasceptile ) I’ve drawn her sceptile a few times and hoo boy it wasn’t really that fun for me. I give Mint mad props for drawing that thing. My sister ( @occasionallymew ) has come to me a few times because she needed help drawing a pokemon or wasn’t sure on what a pokemon was. in her own words

“It’s why i have the bean [bean is how she and I refer to her mew Jesus]”

So if your favorite pokemon isn’t fun to draw for you you may end up just not having fun. And then you won’t want to run the blog.

That being said if your design is hard don’t think you can’t do it! draw it a bit before starting your blog to see how you like it and it’ll also get easier the more you do it.

Funny enough before I started drawing daily serperior I actually wasn’t that great at drawing snakes. I rarely did. I mostly draw humanoids and monsters and gore. So drawing a snake each day was interesting, more so because I like to draw Serperior closer to a python than how it canonically look (this is kinda the reason they are much rounder how I draw them)

But after drawing it for over 400 posts, I’ve gotten pretty good at it, I don’t really need to look at refs as much for how noodles curl, I can normally just figure it out on my own. I also no longer need to look at pictures of serperior when I’m drawing because I’ve just gotten so used to it. Like I know where to put the yellow curls, I know the husks.

That’s another thing though! this is more a general art tip than daily related, but don’t be afraid of using refs!! Don’t trace or copy directly but using a reference is a wonderful thing if you are unsure of something or the like. Like I have a folder on my laptop that is literally filled with pythons. Just lots and lots of snoots.

Another thing is a bit harder because I can get how discouraging it can be, but don’t feel down if you don’t get a lot of asks or interactions right off. And this may seem a bit mean, but don’t rely on asks to give you content for the blog. The internet can be a fickle place so you may not get the asks you want or many asks. When i started off I didn’t have too many asks if any so I just drew Serperior (this was before I decided to make it my character of excalibur) doing whatever, mostly it was related to Christmas because when I started I was in the middle of finals right before winter break. I was using this as a way to decompress each day after classes, and slowly i started to get some asks.

Depending on your frequency of update, the time you update, how you tag, and your sense of humor or the like, can affect if you get more asks. It also depends on how you interact with your asks.

Sometimes a post will sky rocket and then you get flooded. That’s kinda what happened with Daily Serperior, I can’t remember if it was the Gengar Plush post or the pizza post or even the move in post I had made, but something set off and I got asks a lot.

And don’t be afraid to turn your inbox off if you need to!! I know I’ve had to a few times, actually I had it off for a while, i had it reopened for the giveaway in case people had questions about it. I’ll be closing it again for a bit once I’ve finished the giveaway, because I get overwhelmed easily and it can lead to stress.

Also on the subject of asks, don’t be afraid to delete an ask that makes you nervous or uncomfortable!! Sadly not everyone is super chill, and occasionally you get some weird or bad asks. God am I no stranger to that. Honestly that’s the reason I’ve closed the ask box a few times, some people don’t like listening if you ask them to not send a specific thing. And sometimes it’ll get bad enough you want to quit (I’ve actually had a friend stop their daily blog because she got so tired of a certain type of ask). And if one person keeps sending don’t be afraid to block. I hate blocking but I’ve had to block a few blogs because they would send me asks time and time again on a subject I explicitly asked to not be sent because it makes me highly uncomfortable.

Now to get away from the negative,

All and all a daily blog is mostly about having fun. Interact with the community, send asks to other blogs ect.

Oh that reminds me, but depending on you, if you want to send in character asks it may be good to make a separate account not just a side blog.

With dailyserp i can’t actually follow back or ask as this account it’s a side blog. I do all my following and asks from my main @abunnydreamingofkisses

(so if you see that name in your notes or watcher list it’s me!) Or i send asks on Anon. I typically send anons to other blogs because I’m pretty shy. I’m always terrified to talk to people. I’m also just really bad at holding a conversation because I just have issues coming up with things to talk about. or I’m drawing and I’m hyperfocused. So if you plan to interact more it may be best to have a separate blog. I never expected to actually get any followers I just wanted to draw a doofy noodle, so I made it a side blog and I sometimes regret that but at the end of the day it’s easier for me.

Another thing is I know there are a number of discord chats you can potentially join! I personally don’t join group chats because it actually will spike my anxiety, I love people and I like to chat and makes jokes but due to a few poor experiences with group chats in the past I have to avoid them to keep from having panic attacks. But if you are able to maybe ask around see if you can’t join some. you’ll make friends most likely and memes are kinda a good way to get followers oddly enough (people like to laugh haha)

If Humor isn’t your thing maybe go for plot. I Know I follow a few plot based blogs and man it’s killer waiting for an update. Like over at @daily-poppy-primarina I adore the Brutus story line. I’ve got a thing for monstrous characters so learning about the dark primarina is really fun.

I know on serp I focus mainly on humor with a sprinkling of plot, but that’s mostly because almost all my asks are humor based. I actually do have a plot all written out in a notebook on this noodles past, and I even have a comic I keep meaning to finish up after I lost the original but lifes been in my way (hence my multi week hiatus)

also never be afraid to take a break. I think that has to be my last tip. I hate taking breaks but sometimes it’s needed. Sometimes you’ll get burnt out, sometimes you are over whelmed, sometimes you just feel like getting away. It happens. But don’t let it control you to the point you hate your blog. Take a step back take a breather. It’ll be okay.

At the end of the day it’s about you having fun creating a thing you want. Draw, Write, send memes to ect.

So I guess that’s all i have to say ;v; sorry for the length I’m really bad with being concise haha

Time Twin Headcanons!

I wasn’t going to do this, but I kinda had to. Oh well! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyway, here are some dumb headcanons about Acronix and Krux. Though, admittedly, mostly Acronix. :3 There are a lot of them because I obsess over these dorks (also I’ve been working on this list since early April. I waited for the season to air in the US so most of the fandom would see it before I released this into the wild :B). There are some slight spoilers for anyone who hasn’t seen season 7 yet. (Seriously, though, if you’ve seen the first two episodes, you should be fine.)

-While Acronix adores technology in general, there are three items he treasures above all else: his BorgWatch, BorgPad, and, the jewel of his collection, his BorgPod.

-Acronix absolutely LOVES music. He’ll listen to practically anything, but his favourites include metal of pretty much any kind, like nu, pirate, and especially anything that could be classified as hair/glam metal. Dubstep also ranks high on his list, because it sounds like someone fiddling with time while playing music.

-If he ever, somehow, gets his powers back, Acronix totally plans to learn how to play drums and join a speed metal band. :P

-Acronix’s favourite Stratovarius song is The Hands of Time, though he is a little disappointed that it’s not about him and his brother.

-Acronix also secretly loves Yanni, but he absolutely won’t admit it to ANYONE. (Or the fact that his most favourite song ever is Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head.) :3

-Acronix can sing. Like, really well. And he loves karaoke. He’ll drag Krux out to sing all the time, and Krux hates it. He couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket. But he loves his brother, so he’ll humour him.

-Krux dislikes music in general. It all sounds like discordant noise to him. He suffers from Amusia. (He’s tone deaf.)

-Krux is actually secretly upset that he can’t appreciate his brother’s singing talent.

-As it turns out, Acronix got the BorgPod specifically so he wouldn’t aggravate his brother’s condition on a regular basis whenever he wants to listen to music.

-Acronix is a cheap drunk. Get a couple shots into him and he’s totally wasted. Meanwhile, Krux will drink you under the table.

-Also? Acronix is the most maudlin drunk ever. Seriously, even if he doesn’t have a care in the world beforehand, once he’s soused, he’ll be bawling like a child with a skinned knee and belting out Komm, süsser Tod at the top of his lungs.

-Acronix will deny that he listens to country music, but when he’s drunk, he will go into a litany of sad country songs. Stuff like Feed Jake, Little Rock, There Is No Arizona, I’m Gonna Drive You Out Of My Mind, pretty much everything from Reba’s For My Broken Heart album...

-Acronix is a total memelord.

-When Krux needs to calm down and/or relax, he’ll go fishing. Acronix finds it stupid and boring. Meanwhile, when Acronix needs to chill out, he’ll go hide somewhere quiet with his BorgPad and play Quell. He has all four. (And he WILL collect all the clocks in Quell: Memento, you just watch!)

-Acronix is Team Instinct on Pokemon GO.

-Both twins go nuts over fob watches. (For Acronix, the geekier the better.)

-Acronix prefers cats, while Krux is a dog person.

-Acronix won’t admit it, but he relies a lot on his brother for, well, everything. Now that Krux is so much older than him, he’s secretly terrified of what’s going to happen when Krux almost inevitably predeceases him. He has no idea how he’s going to get by without him. This worry is why he tends to be short-tempered lately. (Well, that and the fact that being defeated and stripped of their powers is still a fresh wound for him...)

-Also, Acronix is actually desperately lonely. He has no friends and can no longer really relate to his brother. He tries to fill the void with social media, but it only helps a little.

-Acronix has never killed anyone, not even during the Serpentine War. He sometimes boasts that if he did, it wouldn’t affect him at all. (It totally would, though.) Krux, on the other hand, HAS killed someone, and it messed him up but good. (Acronix has no idea, and no one is ever finding that body...) Krux does his best to keep his brother from following in his footsteps because he doesn’t want him going through what he did, regardless of the reasons.

-Acronix’s blog is nothing but memes and shitposts. Unbeknownst to either, Jay is one of his followers. Also, he found Kai’s Chirp profile and trolls him mercilessly. Whenever Kai blocks him, he just makes a new account and starts over. (Even Krux will admit that the trolling is kinda funny.)

-Also on the topic of Acronix’s blog, he keeps a side blog where he posts all the pictures he takes with his BorgPad. They’re actually quite artistic, for the most part.

-Acronix is a worse cook than Cole. For example, Cole's cooking can actually be called edible, and it usually doesn’t explode. Acronix will readily admit that the things he makes are unfit for human consumption. He shouldn’t be let within five miles of a kitchen. He’d starve if Krux weren’t around to feed him.

-On that note, Krux is an excellent cook. Acronix’s favourite thing in the whole world is his brother’s sushi. (As illustrated here by my friend Blysk!)

-Krux’s pickled beetroot tea may very well be the finest in all of Ninjago, but Acronix still doesn’t like it very much. His brother makes him drink it often, though. (Possibly in retaliation for dragging him to karaoke all the time. :3) (ShinyShiny9 and I are jointly responsible for this one.)

-Acronix wasn’t always the competent, confident fighter he is today. When he was a child, he was actually a shy, anxious, socially awkward momma’s boy. Krux honestly hasn’t changed all that much since childhood.

-Acronix has a massive sweet tooth. (Seriously, hide your candy, Lloyd. :3) Krux prefers foods that are either spicy, bitter or sour.

-There is one technological advancement from the past 40 years which both twins can agree upon was a good thing: indoor plumbing.

-On that note, one of the first things Acronix did after being introduced to it was take a nice long, hot shower and wash his hair with modern shampoo and conditioner. He was thrilled with the results. (He is very proud of his hair. He styles it himself.)

-Acronix was one of those kids who used to spin around in circles until he got so dizzy he either fell over or threw up. (Sometimes both.) :P

-Whenever Acronix made himself puke, Krux would take the chance to dump a bucket of (preferably ice cold) water on his brother’s head. His excuse was that he was helping him clean up, but in fact, he just thought his brother was an idiot and deserved what he got.

-Acronix’s love for future technology also includes swivel chairs... :B

-Acronix has a large scar on his left side, from an incident during the Serpentine War. He refuses to be specific about how he got it. Even Krux doesn’t know the whole story.

-Krux doesn’t get sick very often. In the 40 years he spent waiting for Acronix to show up, he might have been ill three times. Acronix, on the other hand, has a miserable time during cold and flu season.

-Both twins can sew. (Acronix sometimes does embroidery when Krux isn’t looking... :B)

-Both twins are ambidextrous, though Acronix tends to favour his left hand and Krux his right.

-And now for something completely different! When it comes to Vermillion, the colour of the snakes decides how venomous they are. The orange and brown Vermillion aren’t all that deadly, but their bite can still make you very sick. The red ones are deadly poisonous, and a bite from one can kill you in less than half an hour.

Kissed by the Baddest Trainer! [KBTBB Pokemon!AU]

(Based off a lot of @maidofstars’ and @catchthespade’s posts. Just a warning, I will be jumping back and forth in time. I'll denote that when it happens.)

MEETINGS OF FATE PART 2

Mamoru grumbles as he takes a soda from a vending machine. The cases relating to the Pokémon poachers, Pokémon hunters, and Pokémon Hunter F with his gang are more of a pain than when he was assigned to dealing with the elusive Lupin and the antics of Team KōriRyu with some crazy plans. That day when he walk into Ichinomiya Corp. building, he had to sigh while draining his can. He really wasn't expecting it at all. ~Five Years Ago~ Mamoru heads inside the front doors to Ichinomiya Corp. to talk with the head of the company. With the CEO's personal assistant guiding him to the man's office, Mamoru scans his surroundings. There was nothing unusual so far in the company... so why is there a level of unease in his gut? The feeling didn't turn out to be wrong when he sees the leader of Team KōriRyu meeting with Eisuke in his office along with Lupin himself, in the mask and flesh. "Ah. I was wondering when you'd show up," Eisuke chuckles from a window. "Why the hell that guy's here," Mamoru growls while the door clicks shut behind him. "It was an important meeting regarding the recent increase in Pokémon poaching and hunting," he hears Eisuke smirk. The man turns to him. "I believe the police would have more on their plate than any of Team KōriRyu's or Lupin's activities," the CEO chuckles in a somewhat sinister manner. Mamoru didn't like the situation he was in. At all. The CEO is in cahoots with an evil organization and a thief running his own show but he can tell that the men have standards that make them different. That however doesn't make it easier for him. The leader of Team KōriRyu is giving him a really ugly look while Lupin is acting like the situation is a picnic. Somehow, Mamoru wishes he can smash that face in with his gun and cuff Lupin. The situation though didn't require either. It requires his sound judgement on what case to pick. He can deal with elusive Lupin, the dark Team KōriRyu, or target their common foe. ~Present~ "Just why did I stick with the damned hunters and poachers," he grumbles while scoring a shot worthy of a basketball three pointer with his empty can. "But Ichinomiya had a point then." Mamoru didn't like that it didn't bring justice to anything or solve any problems within a week or two. But then he can't complain. He knows that Detective Ayase was more than happy to pick up the Lupin case while Hayami takes the Team KōriRyu one with some reluctance. A relief for him but what he doesn't like is that he has to work with a team with a shady reputation and a CEO who thinks the world revolves around him. Why couldn't he have picked one that was more quieter than any of the current ones? "What a pain," he mutters while whipping out his pipe and starts chewing on it. "I can't believe that those guys are so demented to even consider Pokémon like tools or items..." As he vents under his breath, he feels something head butt him and he turns to see his Arcanine. The large dog-like Pokémon whimpers before Mamoru sighs and walks over to a park where Arcanine runs around. He pulls out his Pokégear and studies it. The map now sports new locations transmitted to him personally from Eisuke regarding the poachers and hunters. So far nothing from Baba. Standing up, he whistles to Arcanine in order to get a ride to a location that was nearby. A series of suspicious activities around a once successful factory that's now long abandoned. Mamoru hits a switch on his Pokégear to radio for back up. He waits until Hayami and Ayase appear with several others and their Poké Balls ready. Mamoru hops off and pulls out another Poké Ball. This is going to get rough fast and he would like to get it done and over with fast. It's an unsaid rule in their division that whomever wins the informal Pokémon battles while on the job gets a free meal. Not that Mamoru would admit to wanting it on a daily basis as he can't cook a full meal that doesn't require a lot of work. ~*~ Eisuke sits in the back seat of his car when he sees something that isn't usual. A young trainer with a Minccino on her shoulder. He orders the driver to stop so he can step out. He notices that the girl is looking at a display window. He might as well enlighten himself to the si- oh hello! The girl's reflection in the window is that of a simple young woman wearing less than high quality clothing. Not that it matters as he is going to fix up that appearance. "You," he calls out to her, causing her to spin around. "Come with me." "What," she yelps while the Minccino on her shoulder starts hissing at him. Okay... nothing new with the Pokémon not liking him. He hears Persian as he walks out of the car to sit next to him. The Minccino stops and cowers behind the girl's head at the sight of Persian. Interesting. The Pokémon and its trainer are both scared but neither are backing down. First off, he needs to get her outfit fixed up. There is no way he's letting those ratty things on her feet stay on any longer. "You're taking too long," he frowns then slings her over his shoulder. "Hey," she protests. Neither notices Minccino scurries into her bag to check the egg. "Shut up and come with me," he scowls. He ignores the chatter on the street as well as the glares and squeals. These plebeians are way below him. Once inside, he sets her roughly on a well cushioned seat with Persian jumping on seconds later. He orders the driver to take them to the company grounds. En route, he watches the girl from a corner of his eye. She takes off her backpack and feeds the Minccino an Oran berry while checking on something. It was an egg in a bad condition case. Where ever she got her egg from, the case is terrible. He sends Luke a message over his Pokétch to meet him within half an hour. He doesn't mind the protesting response as he can't help but feel intrigue over the girl. The girl clearly is more worried about her Pokémon than her. Then he notices her lanyard has only a Poké Ball on it. That's odd... only one when she clearly has two? He was about to ask when the driver announces that they arrived. He watches her zip her bag up again but open enough for her Minccino to breathe. She must be really worried about that egg... The door opens and he steps out with Persian hopping after him. He turns to see the young woman rather reluctant before she steps out. A typical girl in his sphere would be more than happy to be on the grounds of Ichinomiya Corp. yet this one doesn't seem to be so excited. She's looking around like her Minccino under Persian's stare. Seeing as it would take longer than he likes, Eisuke grabs her wrist and drags her with him, ignoring her protests. Once inside his office, he sees that she's eyeing the open tank holding his Kingdra. "Um..." she whispers. "What," he snaps. "... may I let my Magikarp in there," she whispers in a timid voice. That's what must be in her Poké Ball... He glances at Kingdra who is glaring at her. He knows that his Kingdra isn't the friendliest about sharing his space. He recalls Kingdra back to his Poké Ball. He watches as confusion dances across her face. Then it dawns on him. Whenever he has business meetings with others who have water-type Pokémon, he orders for individual tanks to be brought in. He'll have to ask a janitor later to clean the tank after. "What? You need someplace to put your Magikarp," he frowns. The confusion gets replaced with a big heartfelt smile that Eisuke wonders how much energy she has to even do all this. ~*~ ___ walks out of Ichinomiya Corp with her new clothes, bag, and running shoes on. Her egg now rests comfortably inside the bike basket in a new and well insulated case for comfort. Her new bag contains a fresh off the line PokéNav, her sticker-decorated Pokédex, various Poké Balls and some new change of clothes. Minccino rests on her head with a relieved smile. ___ knows that Minccino was so nervous while inside that she refuses to even leave her when Mr. Ichinomiya asks her to change clothes. That day was something for sure. ~Two Days Ago~ "A-Are you serious," ___ stutters while taking Magikarp's ball off her lanyard. "Is that fish going in? If not I'm going to put Kingdra back," Mr. Ichinomiya sighs. ___ sends Magikarp in and the Fish Pokémon swims with happy movements all while ignoring the smell of Kingdra. ___ smiles as she feeds Magikarp his favorite kibble. At the sound of the door opening she hears "The wild Minccino?!" in a surprised voice. ___ and Minccino both turn to see- "Professor Foster," she whines in confusion. The Pokémon professor teeters in with his Marowak and Audino supporting him. "Luke-senpai... you know this girl," she hears Mr. Ichinomiya whisper. "I got her started and allowed the Minccino on her shoulder as her starter... Where'd you get that Magikarp?" ___ should've figure it out that the professor is super perceptive about any Pokémon, wild or captured. "Rescued him from a Magikarp seller," ___ sighs while Professor Foster studies her latest Pokémon. "A what," Mr. Ichinomiya questions. ___ explains how when she was on her way to start her journey, she sees a man carrying a very poor condition Magikarp that she orders Minccino to attack the man. "And while Minccino used tickle and attract, I threw a Poké Ball at it," ___ finishes. The look on both men's faces tells her that what she said wasn't good. "Just be more careful and not to rescue every Magikarp you see," Mr. Ichinomiya sighs. "But I will report this to the police." "You are very quick to get this one to safety," Professor Foster adds while standing up. "That Magikarp suffered from severe dehydration and malnutrition. I'll give you some medication and additives to help him recover faster." "Thanks Professor- Minccino," ___ yelps. Minccino hides herself in ____'s shirt and ___ sees that Persian is looking rather disappointed that ___ nearly falls into the tank. She is happy that Luke got her upright in time. That's all except for the fact that Kingdra made an entrance and got her and her bag sopping wet all while doing everything to get her Magikarp out of the water. Enough that ___ physically hugs the Pokémon from the water with Minccino at her back. "Come on," Mr. Ichinomiya orders while dragging her again. "Let's get you some dry ones..." While he did pick out the ones that were necessary, with a female employee helping to pick out any necessary feminine ones, ___ had a hard time getting Minccino out of her clothes while Persian was around. After using her old bag with her old clothes as a thing to hit and get Persian out the room, only then was ___ able to get dressed and dry off Minccino. ~Present~ "That was really something," ___ mutters while continuing to remember what happened. "And just why did Mr. Ichinomiya had to argue with me about how many Poké Balls I needed?" The bag contains a few more Poké Balls then when she first started and the bag had also a luggage feature that made it perfect for travel though... "He didn't have to give me that wallet," ___ frowns as Minccino makes annoyed twitters. Mr. Ichinomiya also hand her a wallet filled with enough money that it was almost enough to pay for her parents house twice... A lot of money despite that Ichinomiya Corp. products can be at a low price. "I think he's spoiling me," ___ whines as she pedals to her next destination.

Author's Note: I will admit that I don't like the smell of cigarette smoke. The only alternative I could think off was taking a leaf from a HALO book I've read once. A character has a pipe that he didn't smoke but only chewed on. So I used that instead of the usual cigarette. And I have enough experience with the smell of it off of people who do smoke it that it's a smell that doesn't wash off right away. The free meal... I can't remember which blog I read it from that gave me the idea... maybe it was from @smutmylifeup... or was it @redpantychan?... I can't remember too well but then again I haven't been able to play MPD:CTY either so I used those and other MPD:CTY blogs as my best materials for that. I want to keep alcohol to more fitting settings than the near everyday Pokémon battles that the police may get engaged with and formal party settings.

For me personally, I don't drink alcohol unless it's cooked.

Canon(ish) RP - Ship Spats

(Artemis-mod here. Occasionally, in the downtime between sessions, we tend to mess about and do roleplays as our characters over on our Discord server. It works particularly well for stuff that wouldn’t otherwise be particularly interesting to play in sessions--like a looooong journey by boat! So, without further ado, here are the logs from those assorted RPs.)

Irwin

*Irwin scurries across the deck, leans over the starboard rail, and hurls into the water below*

Giga (Danica)

"Uh... Irwin?" quickly climbs down from the crow's nest "Are you okay?"

Irwin

*he's draped over the railing motionless* Uuuuunnnggh...

Giga (Danica)

"Ah. Seasick?"

Irwin

*he slowly turns his head to the side. He looks like he could be a zombie.* First time... on a boat...

Giga (Danica)

"Ah. Still need your sea legs then. Don't worry, it'll pass." leans onto the rail peering out into the water.

Irwin

I don't know how you do it. It's got to be so much worse up there on the lookout thingy.

Giga (Danica)

"I just focus on everything else. Honestly, being out on the open sea is reassuring to me."

Irwin

I thought it would be fun... but now I just want to get back to land.

Giga (Danica)

"Well, with any luck, we won't be stuck in the Temple of Faith as long as the Temple of Time... Seriously where does Absolute get his stuff for this place?"

Irwin

Yeah, I'm a little nervous about what we may find there. I'm glad to be helping Casia though. I may have been dragged here against my will, but I can appreciate what Absolute does. *he slowly looks up at the land in the distance* And besides, this place is pretty beautifURP- *he leans over and throws up again* *he then proceeds to crumple down into a ball on the deck* Euugh... Do me a favor, and just knock me out until we get there...

"I uh... would rather not take the risk of accidentally taking your memories..."

Maybe I'll be better off below deck... *he proceeds to crawl away ever so slowly*

winces as Irwin crawls away, then looks out at the sea "...wonder how Rippy's doing..."

"Oh, hey Sarah. Well, my Samurott Riptide for one..." Puts her head against the railing "...he must be worried sick..."

looks over at her and leans on the rail smiling happily ahh..you got "family" back home to...i hope my crews doing ok....but I'm sure they're fine!

Giga (Danica)

"I hope so... Rippy has a tendency to... uh... rush into things if something's wrong, to say the least..." turns to Sarah "What about you? You got folks or Pokemon waiting back home?"

Sarah Blossom

laughs ah..bon bon is like that....but she thinks on it looks to her "mostly pokemon at this point....knowing my luck...but i call them my family, 5 of em and an egg to be exact!

Giga (Danica)

"Oh, really now? Who, and what, are they respectively? If you don't mind me asking."

"Huh... interesting. Riptide's the only Pokemon I've ever really had, per say, and he's been with me for... well, since my earliest Plasma days, I think... way back when he was an Oshawott..."

"Heh... that's nice." Looks out towards the sea (again) "Rippy was apparently found from an abusive trainer. I was assigned to take care of him while I was still getting basic training and other such courses... Wow, that feels like such a long time ago..."

smiles looking out to sea once more "Ouch...I...I really hate abusive trainers....i found psy and ribbons as Eevee's ....i was...few years before I was trainer material...two trainers left them and they were scared....nurse joy had mentioned it when we went to carefor the others....i saw them...they weren't causing trouble...they just needed a snack...they followed like a lost lillipup for the whole day!"she giggled..."it feels a lot longer then.... she blushed sorry..i..i uhh ..rambled

Shakes head "It's fine, if anything, the rambling is a nice change from... well, y'know."

"Sarah, Sarah, Sarah..." still smirking mischievously "...it was ridiculously obvious that you two were pining for each other. I'm just grateful that it happened sooner rather than... well, too late..."

"It is the best thing you got me to do!...We realized how much we wanna get out of here...now we don't EVER want to evolve... I'm letting Irwin keep the stone until we find a way to split it in two halfs and make it wearable...and uhmm...*looks around..making sure no one is listening(if anyone wants to try to listen perception roll!!!!~) We uhh...we..kinda got into a talk in the tent the other night...

The Dark-type makes his way above deck. It seems like he'd been suffering some of the same issues Irwin had been--poor bastards. "Hi, girls...urp."

"Nice to see you too Artemis. Also, I believe you do have a minor explanation to give about... well..." points at Artemis' floof wings

"Uh... admittedly, Pokemon related stuff isn't my strong suit..."

Artemis the Absol

"Mega Evolution? It's..." He says, giving a bit of a noncommittal shrug. "It's something I've been able to do for a while, honestly. It's uncommon in the tribe, but not unheard of. I don't use it much since it takes a whole, whooooole lot outta me. And I can’t fly, even with--" A rather rough wave rocks the ship, and Arty grips the railing of the boat tightly, wrenching his eyes shut. "Bleeegghhhh..."

Sarah Blossom

"well..you DID say you weren't from kalos..so i guess you don't know,,,"she laughs "it's the bond between pokemon and trainer, some pokemons bond is so strong..some have the capability to do whats called Mega evolution a temporary step further of evolution its seen as a trainer has truly bonded with its pokemon as one being... only a number of them can do such a thing...but those that are able to wield the mega stone with its pokemon can be even stronger than before... taking control of it isn't easy..but those who have the right mindset should feel as if they and their pokemon are one

Artemis the Absol

Artemis squints and peers at her with suspicion. "You keep saying that word. What in the world is a 'Trainer', exactly? Something to do with humans and Pokemon together, that's about all I can tell." He says, hiding the venom in his tone. Mostly.

Sarah Blossom

She speaks of it as if it's pure bliss a trainer...something I am considerably..catching pokemon..but as friends..to perform with me on stage..her voice went from sweet to bitter sour...a mean glare in her eyes do you have a problem with that fluffy boy? The floofdoggo is relatively outwardly unfazed by her sudden change in demeanor, though the sudden venom leaves him a bit rattled. Jeezum, temperamental much? "If you say so." He says shortly, clearly unconvinced, though he'd rather not press the issue. "...I'm inclined to agree with Vivian on this one. I was worried about wasting time, about not doing anything to try and find the rest of my family, but..." Artemis grimaces as he recalls the impromptu reunion with Mercury.

Vivian Vivian types on her phone, eyes apparently disenchanted with the conversation. And here I thought you all just forgot about me. she continues typing, not looking up. By the way, next time there's a trap, try a little harder not to let us get captured.

Artemis the Absol "I didn't expect to meet with Mercury like that--that 'ultra fast Absol' as Danica put it." Artemis says, nodding to Vivian as he explains. "Mnh...a lot of them tend to have markings like that. Gilgamesh is a bit like me, more of an all around-er. Scathach--Scatty--specializes in bladed weapons. Bit weird for an Absol, but..." Another violent wave rocks the boat, and Arty's face turns even more green. "I'll...be right back. See if I can't find more of those little tablets Kevin gave me..." Down below deck he goes--holy shit IRWIN DON'T DIE BRO.

Vivian How well can they swim while packed into a storage crate?

Giga (Danica) "Vivian please, I'd rather not get lost at sea after a mutiny..."

Irwin *Irwin lies at the bottom of the stairs, watching as the silhouette of the Mega Absol descends toward him* ...An angel...? *his eyes take a moment to adjust* .......oh........

Artemis the Absol The Disaster Pokemon waves a paw in front of his face, pulling and tugging him back up to his feet. "They warned you about those stairs, man. What with how rickety and shaky this ship can--urp." He quickly cuts off his chiding, a wave of nausea hitting him. "Ok, nevermind. Let's get to Kevin. Get you checked out and get seasickness away. Seasick bad."

Irwin Thanks. *Irwin sways, and leans up against Artemis steady himself* You're not... looking too hot yourself there.

Artemis the Absol "L-like I said. Kevin can help." Artemis murmurs, biting his lip and rolling his shoulders, letting the Quilava rest a bit more of his weight against his side. He's a big boy floof, he can handle this. A few twists and turns later and Arty noses the far door open... aaaand no Kevin? Lovely. "Sonofa..."

Irwin That's okay... *he stumbles his way to one of the beds* Only medicine I need... is a bucket... *he practically falls into the bed* and some water... I'm no... sissy... How 'bout you? You need me... to take care of you? *he chuckles a bit, but it quickly turns to heaving*

Artemis the Absol Arty shakes his head and grins, giving him a light pet on the back before moving to rummage through some of the things on Kevin's desk. They're sure to be there somewher---aha! "Oh thank Arceus." He murmurs, spearing the old, oooooold packet of tablets with a claw. "Saw him take one of these earlier. I asked about it and he said they help with seasickness... bit odd for a Water-type to have, but he did say he used to be human...somehow..." The Dark-type shrugs, confused--though now really isn't the time to fiddle with that. NOMF.

Irwin Well hey! Don't hog 'em... *he stretches his arm out as far as he can without moving his body*

Artemis the Absol "Since you asked so nicely." He deadpans right back, spearing a second one and plopping it down into his outstretched paw. "Enjoy." Artemis says, grinning to himself. "I'll go ahead and head back up. See you there?"

Irwin *he stuffs the pill in his mouth and rolls onto his back to help him swallow* Nyeh... Yeah... I'll just... give it a chance to kick in.

Artemis the Absol Arty pauses for a moment, then nods back to the Fire-type, flaring out his wings to keep his balance as he pushes through the ship's winding corridors. Only a few minutes had passed since he'd left before he finally pokes his head up above deck. "And back. Irwin should be here shortly."

Irwin *Irwin carefully climbs back up the stairs and greets the others* Hey guys, I'm feeling... a lot... *he runs back to the railing and throws up*

Artemis the Absol Artemis can't help but frown at that. Maybe they simply aren't as effective for the Fireself? "Eh, give it a bit to kick in...I guess. Where were we, again? Something about...special snowflakes?"

Artemis the Absol "Where'd she wander off to...? Odd." Artemis murmurs, frowning and shaking his head with a scowl. All over the place, this team. "Was there something you wanted to know, then? You had that kinda look on your face." He says, gesturing vaguely towards her.

Sarah Blossom "what me?....well...you seemed...bitter at trainers specifically..

Artemis the Absol "Forgive me if I'm distrustful of humans." The Dark-type says, growling and baring his fangs. "Especially since this group we're fighting, all the humans turned Pokemon, they were 'Trainers' too, weren't they?"

Artemis the Absol Artemis rolls his eyes and shakes his head, snapping his jaws shut menacingly. "And how, exactly, is that any different than the rest of you, beating them to near unconsciousness and taking them from their homes?!"

Irwin Hey hey hey! Don't snap at her! I know you just went through something horrible, and I'd be mad too, but we need to be able to trust each other if we're going to make it through whatever's ahead of us. I'm not a trainer, so if that's what's nagging you most, then at least trust me to start. *he leans back against the railing and closes his eyes* And try to keep in mind that this isn't just about your tribe, or my team. We've seen others being controlled like your friend back there, including a family of young Totodile. We need to work together to stop this.

Artemis the Absol Arty growls, but he can't deny the logic in his words. "When we get to shore, we're going to need to have one hell of a heart-to-heart. And no, NO PUNS!" He says, quickly regretting his choice of words. "That's...only for very close friends and loved ones."

Irwin *Irwin looks like he's about to say something, but instead he just slumps down and sits on the deck* If you don't want to talk any more right now, I won't make you. But don't judge us. Some of us have been through a lot. At least let our future actions speak for us.

Adrian St. Artiel "How are we different?" Adrian, with worn bound sketchbook in hand and propped up against the mast, glances nonchalantly at the agitated absol before shifting his gaze back to his work. "For starters, we aren't ALL trainers."

Artemis the Absol Arty stops to the far side of the deck, tail swishing angrily through the air, and he digs his claws into the railing. "Fine. Fine..." He murmurs, lidding his eyes and forcing himself to take a few deep breaths. That's the other reason he doesn't Mega Evolve often-otional. "If you're not trainers, then what ARE you?"

Irwin ... *he looks up to the sky* We're Team Wayfinder. Visitors from various lands, on a mission to rescue and protect the inhabitants of Casia from Team Plasma.

Adrian St. Artiel "I can't speak for the rest, but I've never captured nor battled with a single pokemon... least not until becoming one."

Irwin Same here. I've almost never even interacted with Pokemon growing up. I don't even know what type of Pokemon you are, now that you've evolved. This shouldn't matter though. I'm not saying we're perfect. We're all flawed, and will do dumb things, but we're trying our best. We never asked to come here, but we all chose to stay to help. Anyway.... How's that drawing coming along, Adrian?

Giga (Danica) climbs back down from the Crow's nest

Adrian St. Artiel "Adequately." he responds, half brushing the poor fire type off and half too disheartened in his work to respond otherwise.

Artemis the Absol "From my understanding, that Team is what you became after getting stuck here." He says, putting a bit of a point on it. "Even so... you...mngh." Artemis stifles a swear. Why are words eluding him this evening? Damnit! "As for what Pokemon I am, I'm still me. Still an Absol. Can't even fly with these things, as much as I might want to." The Dark-type says, gesturing to and fluttering those 'wings' of his. "Temporary boost in strength, to put it simply."

Giga (Danica) "Honestly, it's not something I see in Unova very often..." "...or at all..."

Irwin I... can't say I follow. It happened at a good time at least. Speaking of which, I'm sorry you had to fight your friend back there. *he holds his paws together and stares at the deck* I don't think I'd have the heart to do that. *he trails off and begins mumbling to himself* If I had known Jack was......

Artemis the Absol Arty tenses up and shoots him a pained grin, baring his fangs once more. "Bit closer than just 'friend', but I appreciate the concern. Mercury's my half-brother. Same mom" He explains simply. "And now he's disappeared after that fight... I KNEW I should've...!"

Giga (Danica) "Whoa now!" steps in a bit closer "Look, judging from how you're reacting, I'd say he's pretty close to you, huh? ...we'll find them. If we've run into him once, then I'm more than certain we'll find him again, and more than likely, we'll find the rest of your family not far behind..." Irwin *Irwin stares off in the distance, now with a wide eyes expression of shock* He was your... actual brother?? *he curls up a bit, looking pretty depressed* I... you... *he pauses as he tries to find the words* ...I'm... so sorry. Don't worry, I'm sure he OK... If he got away, then he must be.

Artemis the Absol "Maybe not as close as most other families, but with how much we both care for Mom, yeah, we're close." Artemis says, trying and failing to stifle a low sniffle. He'd been strong and brave during the fight, but adrenaline was on his side then. "As glad as I was to see him, to get some kind of a clue, with how he was acting, with those other...twins? Copies of him?" He says, stamping a paw on the deck. "Part of me is afraid to see what they've done with the others. He was always fast, but THAT kind of speed... I've never seen nor heard of anything that quick, nor strong. Maybe...once, twice I've seen something even getting close to that level."

Giga (Danica) "Hmm... I wonder... he had a bell around his neck, right? That Dewott at Lilac... he had one too, and I remember he was trying to get it off of him..."

Irwin If that's true... we should at least try and get that off of him. Though you weren't wearing a bell when you fell under their control Danica. As for his speed, we have seen a lot of fast Pokemon when dealing with Team Plasma. They were doing research on manipulating time, back when they had that staff Adrian carries with him. I wonder if they learned how to do it without the amulet... If we do have to fight him again, I think Adrian can get him down to a manageable speed. Maybe we can even capture him safely.

Giga (Danica) "Speaking of those powers... try not to get into too much trouble. I haven't been able to use mine after what happened at Town..."

Irwin Did you use it in town? I hadn't even noticed.

Giga (Danica) "...that's because I used it on you Irwin..."

Irwin ..what? *he laughs* Did I fall into the well or something?

Giga (Danica) "Well... you aren't wrong about the water part, let's put it that way..."

Artemis the Absol "If we're lucky enough to get that to work... And that's assuming that it's the bell that's causing it." Arty retorts, glancing between Dani and Irwin, canting his head. Why in the world is she not telling him? Sure, he got fucked up, but it's not like he was the only one who got hurt that night, either.

Adrian St. Artiel "The powers we gained are likely tied to the temple of time." Adrian muses, still scritching away at his pad with what would appear to be charcoal. "The fact that I was given the staff is likely the only reason we still have them. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd also assume the temple of faith is where froslass and plasma have been pulling this bell trick from." Adrian glances over at Irwin, somewhat unnerved. "You really haven't figured it out yet? Really? Think. You've seen how her power works. And more importantly you saw the look on Sarah's face that day. It shouldn't have taken you this long to put two and two together."

Irwin Eesh. You guys are always so cryptic. It's like with the thing about the water. Why am I always the last to hear about stuff?

Giga (Danica) "Ehehh... I swear I meant to let you guys know about the water sooner..."

Adrian St. Artiel "It's not cryptic Irwin. It's rather simple actually. You died. Congratulations."

Giga (Danica) "Well, you got pretty close..." shudders at the memory

Artemis the Absol Artemis nods grimly, only to let out a low yawn. "Well, maybe not died, but--yes." He turns his gaze up to the stars and the moon above--has it gotten that late already? It must be past midnight, easily. "I'm going to head below deck to grab an hour or so of sleep before my watch and meditation. Good night, you three." He says, yawning once more and dipping his head.

Irwin And so you give me sarcasm instead. Right. Wait, pretty close? ... W-wait. OK, just say it, what happened?

Adrian St. Artiel "Whether you choose to believe me or not is up to you. I won't repeat myself."

Giga (Danica) "Well, you decided to go after Primarina, who then hit you with a wateris- Attack and... well... yeah... it looked like it hurt, to say the least..."

Adrian St. Artiel *Adrian nods and waves at the absol as he leaves

Irwin *He looks at Danica, then Adrian. He looks concerned, to say the least* S-so which was it?? *he gets up to his feet* Did I... die? ...or not? Am I like Eddie now?? *and turns back to the water* Tharina...

Giga (Danica) "First off; no, you aren't dead. Second of all, you got close. From what I've seen, the effects more or less got reversed when I pulled off the wibbly-wobblyeyey shit again."

Irwin So if you hadn't been there... if the mind control hadn't been broken... I... hrrp... *vom over the railing*

Adrian St. Artiel "Dani's power reverses the flow of time for someone for a set amount of time, just like how mine slows it, like messing with the playback on an old cassette. When she found you... as you were you were too far gone for normal healing measures so we essentially cheated, and made it so that for you, the whole thing never happened."

Adrian St. Artiel "But it did happen, and we did all see the results of you failing to control yourself."

Irwin *Irwin wipes his mouth, lurches over to Danica, and gives her a hug* Th-thank you, then... for saving me...

Giga (Danica) returns the hug "Well, I couldn't just leave you there... It wouldn't be right..."

Irwin Failing to control myself...? I don't even know what I did. *he turns around and begins to sulk off* I... need to go... process... for a bit...

Giga (Danica) nods solemnly "No worries, if you need to talk to one of us though, just say the word."

Irwin *he waves limply without turning around*

Adrian St. Artiel *softly, so as to not have Irwin hear "He had to find out sooner or later."

Giga (Danica) at the same volume as Adrian "Admittedly, he took it significantly better than I expected..." leans back over the rails and sights

Adrian St. Artiel "He's definitely the most tolerable of the group, but damned if he isn't oblivious as hell most of the time... ugh." Frustratedly, Adrian rips the page he was working on out of his notebook, crinkles it up and tosses it over the side of the ship.

Giga (Danica) "...no luck?"

Adrian St. Artiel "Not exactly. Just... something I shouldn't be thinking about right now." He sighs and puts his art kit and supplies back in his bag. "I'm heading in too. Likely going to be a while till we hit land. Might as well try to get something vaguely resembling sleep."

Giga (Danica) "No worries. I'll keep watch then..." Waits for Adrian to start moving off before chiming in again. "...Hey Adrian? I need you to be honest with me, do you think we made the right choice in... staying here?"

Adrian St. Artiel Adrian looks back over his shoulder and raises an eyebrow."Hmmm? Oh that? Well, to be honest... No. We probably didn't. But at the same time, I don't think it really matters." "Something tells me leaving wouldn't have been the simple matter that Absolute eaking it out as. We'd likely be pursued by plasma anyhow, whether we were human or pokemon, simply because we were here, and we have seen what's been going on. You think a place like this would stay as is if the whole of the outside world knew about it? Plus I've begun to suspect that Absolute and Moira aren't quite as all powerful here as the think. There's more to it. Stuff they're either not telling us, or don't know themselves. Least from what I've gathered. And also..."

Giga (Danica) "Hmm?" turns to look at Adrian more clearly

Adrian St. Artiel "I don't think I CAN leave. Not yet anyway. Just personally. Being here has made me... remember things. Ironic right? Things that I haven't thought about in a while. Things I didn't want to think about. I think, for a good long while before coming here, I haven't really been trying to think at all. At least not about myself or what I was doing. I kind of just... kept moving, not looking nor caring where I was going cause it felt like if I stopped, everything I left behind would eventually catch up and I'd have to answer for a lot of.... well, let's just say lapses in judgement and leave it at that. But here... it's different." "The outside world can't touch us in here, at least not directly. It's like someone pressed pause on life, and then gave us the time, for better or for worse, to think things over, and try to make sense of where we are. At least, that's what I've been trying to do. I know I can't go back to the way I was, not really. I've at least realized at this point that I was going nowhere, and keeping a lot of things bottled up. And so I've decided that, before I even consider heading back, that I would figure out just where I went wrong and to make plan to at least try and fix things... whatever that might entail."

Giga (Danica) "...guess we're in the same boat then." looks out at the sea. "I don't know what's going to happen to us here... Hell, I can't even guarantee our own physical safety... And there's only one thing that I'm completely certain about." looks up to the stars. "That once we leave, once this whole crazy adventure is over, we're never going to be the same people we were beforehand, like you said, be it for better or for worse... Between you and me Adrian, I don't have a lot waiting for me back home. Main reason I'm not accepting staying here... well, I've got things I still need to do as Danica." grips onto the railing. "...I can't afford to falter in my duties... not when... not when the alternative is... when failure is..." Frowns, then shakes head in frustration. "...Not when there's so much at stake." "But enough of that. Tell you all what, I've got a decent amount saved up. Once we're done with this place, how about we all go on a trip to Alola? Or something, either way, getting away from all the world's stresses sounds pretty good right now."

Adrian St. Artiel "Hah. We'll see. First we have to make it through the night. And on that note-" Adrian turns and waves behind him. "-I'm off. Take care Dani."

Giga (Danica) "Heh, night Adrian. I'll keep watch and let you guys know when I see land."

Adrian St. Artiel Adrian gives a thumbs up (Or at least, the smeargle equivalent of one) as he descends the ladder into the ship's depths, but says nothing else, disappearing from view.

...

Out of the corner of your eye, over the railing, a glimmer of moonlight reflects off something and catches your attention.

Giga (Danica) "Hm?" Tries taking a look at what's reflecting the light...

Adrian St. Artiel You peer over the side and for a split second, you spot a patch of white amidst the dark ocean below. A face, a human one maybe, hard to make out from distance and darkness and saturation, stares back at you from just slightly beneath the water's surface, inscribed on a crumpled up wad of paper that is slowly unraveling itself, bleeding black clouds of water and coal as it sinks below the surface. You only get a quick glimpse of it, what you are able to make out, before the passing wave sweeps it behind the boat and out of sight: Long hair, tied in a pony tail. A bright smile, nearly erased by the waves. And the letter K...

Giga (Danica) Dani's brow furrows in confusion. "What on...?" ((Cue intuition roll!)) !roll 4d6

Adrian St. Artiel While the girl depicted is not familiar to you in any way, the material she was drawn on is. In fact, you're fairly certain you saw a teammate of yours huck a similarly sized, if not identical wad of paper over the edge moments prior. What this means however, is a mystery to you. You can say this much at least: from what you could still see (and water damage aside) the picture looked very realistic. And very detailed. Painstakingly so.

Giga (Danica) "...oh geez..." looks over to where Adrian was earlier and then frowns, before climbing back up onto the crow's nest to keep watch over the horizon/surroundings. "...there really is way too much at stake for us, huh?" ((Uh... end RP?))

Dumb little PSMD review thing, main story edition

Now that I’m done with the main game (for the second time) I thought I’d give some of my opinions on the game, at least pre-credits. Most of which I assume a lot of people agree with me on, but hey.

Story (Consider this your spoiler warning)

Differs from the average PMD story in that actually founding a team (and even meeting the partner) happens rather late. A lot of mysteries are opened right at the beginning, such as Deoxys commenting on Rayquazas unusual behavior, the Beheeyem showing up, and the obligatory man-character-is-human-and-also-has-amnesia trope, staple of the series. Unfortunately, the story picks up really slowly, despite it being very generous with dropping new chapter titles every few minutes. A lot of school (read: tutorial) stuff is hindering its flow, though with the new and different mechanics it’s somewhat understandable. This does mean that the villagers and school kids get plenty of time to establish their characters, something I feel was missing from the Expedition Society, with the exception of Ampharos. Nevertheless, their quirky personalities and hilarious writing make for a light-hearted, enjoyable story.

Then the “petrification arc” starts and shit gets intense. Characters show their serious sides, specifically Ampharos’ leadership qualities. The plot twist with Nuzleaf and Yveltal was pretty well done IMO, with Nuzleaf being established as the first ally in the game, and taking the children’s side multiple times throughout the early stages of the game, like when “defending” them from Carracosta or sneaking out with them against the rules of the other adults, who conveniently were mostly portrayed as stuffy buzzkills so players wouldn’t get as suspicious why going there was forbidden in the first place.

The appearance of the legendary beasts as characters is disappointing to frustrating though. First they let Krookodile do what he wants, then they let Nuzleaf do what he wants, then they let Yveltal do what he wants, then they blame it all on you. Their bevavior is explained, but not well. There’s ways of being cold and distant without being openly insulting. Maybe they just suck at socializing. Or acting. Or both.

Multiple layers of betrayal in the lategame keep the player on their toes. Both Beheeyem being honest about helping the player and Espurr actually being a double agent could be foreseen, but may as well have gone the other way. The various roles of the legendary Pokemon during the finale work great (and finally resolve the appearance of Deoxys and Rayquaza at the very beginning) and the final plot twist of the game, turning the usual player-needs-to-leave trope the series is known for on its head. I’ll chalk up the fact that it’s not as much of a tear-jerker than the previous titles to me being accustomed to it, as well as older.

(Also in the end, we didn’t get to see a Mega Ampharos/Mega Mawile moment. Bummer about that, might’ve been worth including in the Yveltal battle.)

Gameplay

PSMD’s gameplay is stellar and a vast improvement over Gates to Mediocrity. While it does keep plenty of elements from earlier titles, the changes made are enough for it to feel like a completely different game.

An overhaul of ranged attacks, with their range now varying beyond “melee” and “however long you want” as well as making them able to bypass allies to balance that, goes a long way to make the partner able to contribute more in battle, especially in hallways. It also places bigger significance on the order your team is walking in. Making the basic elemental moves 2-range was also important to avoid certain starters being straight-up better than others. Multi-hit and room-wide moves are still fucking overpowered and the bane of every player, though at least this time they can’t waste multiple Reviver Seeds.

Speaking of starters, the inclusion of choice egg moves in their movesets greatly differentiates them, which otherwise would be a lot harder since early on their learnsets are practically identical, and later their different evolutions aren’t present to differentiate them that way.

Changes to items, dungeons and enemies mean that the game plays surprisingly different than previous titles. Tougher enemies result in a need for more healing and higher HP, making Oran Berries even more invaluable than before, to the point where it’s not impossible to run out completely if one routinely eats one or two at the beginning of the dungeon, just for the HP boost. This higher pressure by enemies ties in nicely with the abundance of Reviver Seeds, now in different tiers, likely so Elixirs and Apples wouldn’t become completely redundant. Shorter dungeons overall fit the harsher belly meter and prevent the game from becoming too stale with the longer battles, the default partner AI is now more than just a mirror of the player’s movements (to the point of incorporating things other installments needed IQ skills for, like not stepping on a fucking trap) and pushing is great. The ability to leave certain party members behind without wasting Reviver Seeds on them (even the partner if you want to!) is also helpful, and Looplets bring a nice dynamic to held items as well.

Unfortunately, the story progress is incredibly linear, to the point of being frustratingly so. A concrete list of requests to finish rather than the usual random ones sounds great, and it’s something I do like about the game, but when the game forces you into the next story dungeon with no way to clean out those requests and get them done so they don’t silently taunt you from the menu, it gets annoying. Even just picking up a reward at Cafe Connection has to wait when the game decides that you want to do story now. For a game about exploration, this is unacceptable.

Somewhat related to this issue is the fact that pretty much every partner Pokemon you ever team up with outlevels you greatly. You and your partner are the weakest Pokemon on the planet, and you get carried by literally everyone else around you. A fact that you can’t do anything about since, you guessed it, grinding isn’t something the game allows you to do. This also more than likely causes you to be underleveled for the final dungeons and getting oneshotted a lot, which no matter how many million Reviver Seeds the game throws at you is frustrating nonetheless. I do appreciate the fact that the game gives you ways to take out pretty much anything using the right wands.

Difficulty wise, I’d locate this game at the top of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series, at least when talking about the main storyline. Though it stands to argue that bad luck can easily put Red and Blue Rescue Team in the top spots. The difficulty in PSMD is a lot more fair compared to that, in that it gives you ways to overcome it more easily.

Overall, the game does have its flaws, though most of them come from the limitations of the main story. I’m definitely looking forward to how the postgame plays, as that’s new ground for me as well.
