to be honest the sad thing about adam living alone after michael dies is that he could never talk about him to anybody. at least in the church when sam asked michael about adam everyone could spare some sympathy for his death because adam was human and he’d never done anything wrong. but when it comes to michael it’s like. he’s only ever been the archangel who tried to start the apocalypse and wipe out half the planet. he’s only ever been a threat. so there is just no way adam could ever talk about him to anybody because nobody would ever believe him and it wouldn’t even matter anyway. people will always think of michael as the soldier he was because they never saw anything else. he never showed them anything else. he was so kind to adam and adam alone and it means that when he’s dead adam has to bear the weight of his loss entirely on his own. because who’d miss heaven’s biggest douchebag anyway?

Family is clearly just prolonging my and my mother's misery by forcing me to text her on special occasions and send her gifts, which is giving her false hope that her only boxing bag might come back and endure whatever she decides to take out on it again.

AO3 Etiquette -UPDATED
Based on both decent and not so decent replies, I have made some changes to my original post below.
It would seem a whole new kind of AO3 reader/writer is emerging and it is becoming clear not everyone quite understands how the website community works. Here is some basic guidance on how most people expect you to go about using AO3 to keep this a fun community archive that funtions correctly:
As well as likes, kudos is for when the story was interesting enough to make you finish reading. If it sucked or was badly written, you probably left. If you finished it, you liked it - so kudos.
If you really liked it, you should try to comment. It can be long and detailed or a literal keysmash. Writers don't care, we just love comments.
No critisism unless the author has specifically asked or agreed to hear it (so use your notes to say if you want some constructive feedback). Even constructive critisism is a no-no unless an author note tells you it's okay. No, posting it online is not an open invitation for that. Many people write as a fun hobby or a way to cope with, among other things, insecurity and just want to share. Don't ruin that for them. I've seen so many authors just stop writing coz they can't handle the negative emotions the critism brings, and it's only meant to be a fun thing shared for free (pointing out tagging errors is not included in this).
Do not comment to ask the author to write/update something else. It's tacky and off-putting and will probably have the opposite effect than the one you want.
There is no algorithm, it's an archive. Use the search and filter function to add/remove the pairings/characters/tropes etc. you want to read about and it will find you the fics that fit the bill.
For this to work, writers must tag and rate stories. This avoids readers finding the wrong things and missing the stuff they want. I don't care how cringy that trope is in your eyes - it gets tagged.
The tag exception is if you don't want to tag a million things or spoil your story, you can rate it as "chose not to use warnings," and maybe tag the bare minimum.
Don't censor tags. How can someone exclude a tag if the word isn't typed out correctly? There are no content bans for terms so don't censor them.
If the tags are mostly content/trigger warnings, especially if they are things considered very fucked up or graphic, you might want to use "dead dove - do not eat" to ensure people know that you're not messing around with tags and what they get is exactly what you've warned them about.
Character A/Character B means a ROMANTIC or SEXUAL relationship of some kind. Character A&Character B is PLATONIC, like friendship or family.
Nothing is banned. This is an rule because banning one thing is a slipperly slope to banning another and another, until nothing is allowed anymore. Do not expect anyone to censor for you. Because of the tags system, you are responsible for your own reading experience.
People can create new chapters and sequels/fic series any time after they "complete" a story. So it's considered perfectly normal to subscribe, even to a finished story. You can even subscribe to the author instead just to cover your bases.
Do not repost stories or change the publishing date without an extremely good reason (like a complete top to bottom rewrite or an exchange youve written for going public). It's an archive, not social media. No one cares what's the most recent, only what fits their tag needs.
Instead of deleting a story you wrote if you hate it - consider making it anonymous or orphaning it so others can still enjoy it, without it being connected to your name anymore. If you still want to delete it, fair enough.
It's come to my attention that metaworks ARE allowed on AO3, which is something I wasn't aware of. So if you do post an essay or theory, please tag it as such so others can choose to search for it or exclude it. Art is also allowed.
The only reason this archive works is because NON ONE PROFITS. Do not link to your ko-fi or patreon or mention monetary gain in any way or you violate the terms and risk having your account removed. If anyone does link, it leaves the archive open to people claiming it's for profit and having the whole thing removed.
I KNOW there's plenty more I missed but I'm trying to cover most of the basics that people seem to be struggling with.
I invite anyone to add to this, but please explain, don't berate.

Yasmin Porat, a survivor of the bloodshed at Kibbutz Be’eri, near the boundary with Gaza, says many Israeli civilians were killed by Israeli forces.
An Israeli woman who survived the Hamas assault on settlements near the Gaza boundary on 7 October says Israeli civilians were “undoubtedly” killed by their own security forces.
It happened when Israeli forces engaged in fierce gun battles with Palestinian fighters in Kibbutz Be’eri and fired indiscriminately at both the fighters and their Israeli prisoners.
“They eliminated everyone, including the hostages,” she told Israeli radio. “There was very, very heavy crossfire” and even tank shelling.
The woman, 44-year-old mother of three Yasmin Porat, said that prior to that, she and other civilians had been held by the Palestinians for several hours and treated “humanely.” She had fled the nearby “Nova” rave.
A recording of her interview, from the radio program Haboker Hazeh (“This Morning”) hosted by Aryeh Golan on state broadcaster Kan, has been circulating on social media.
Notably, the interview is not included in the online version of Haboker Hazeh for 15 October, the episode in which it apparently aired.
It may well have been censored due to its explosive nature.
Porat, who is from Kabri, a settlement near the Lebanese border, undoubtedly experienced terrible things and saw many noncombatants killed. Her own partner, Tal Katz, is among the dead.
However, her account undermines Israel’s official story of deliberate, wanton murder by the Palestinian fighters.
Although it no longer appears on the Kan website, there can be little doubt about the recording’s authenticity.
At least one Hebrew-language account posted part of the interview on Twitter, now officially called X, and accused Kan of functioning as “media in the service of Hamas.”
Porat also gave her account to the Israeli newspaper Maariv.
However, the Maariv story, published on 9 October, makes no specific mention of civilians being killed by Israeli forces.
And in a half-hour interview with Israel’s Channel 12 on Thursday, Porat speaks of intense gunfire after Israeli forces arrived. Porat herself received a bullet in the thigh.
Not only does Porat tell Kan that Israelis were killed in the heavy counterattack by Israeli security forces, but she says she and other captive civilians were well treated by the Palestinian fighters.
Porat had been attending the “Nova” rave when the Hamas assault began with missiles and motorized paragliders. She and her partner Tal Katz escaped by car to nearby Kibbutz Be’eri where many of the events she describes in her media interviews took place.
According to Porat speaking to Maariv, she and Katz initially sought refuge in the house of a couple called Adi and Hadas Dagan. After the Palestinian fighters found them they were all taken to another house, where eight people were already being held captive and one person was dead.
Porat said that the wife of the dead man “told us that when they [the Hamas fighters] tried to enter, the guy tried to prevent them from entering and grabbed the door. They shot at the door and he was killed. They did not execute them.”
“They did not abuse us. They treated us very humanely,” Porat explained to a surprised Golan in the Kan radio interview.
“By that I mean they guard us,” she said. “They give us something to drink here and there. When they see we are nervous they calm us down. It was very frightening but no one treated us violently. Luckily nothing happened to me like what I heard in the media.”
“They were very humane towards us,” Porat said in her Channel 12 interview. She recalled that one Palestinian fighter who spoke Hebrew, “told me, ‘Look at me well, were not going to kill you. We want to take you to Gaza. We are not going to kill you. So be calm, you’re not going to die.’ Thats what he told me, in those words.”
“I was calm because I knew nothing would happen to me,” she added.
“They told us that we would not die, that they wanted to take us to Gaza and that the next day they would return us to the border,” Porat told Maariv.
In the Channel 12 interview, Porat elaborates that although the Palestinian fighters all had loaded weapons, she never saw them shoot captives or threaten them with their guns.
In addition to providing the captives with drinking water, she said the fighters let them go outside to the lawn because it was hot, especially as the electricity was cut.

Some people found it unsettling, but he liked the energy. It might explain why he was always drawn to sarcastic humor. Also it meant he spent his whole childhood with various temporary tattoos to censor the naughty word.
He didn't pay it much mind after the accident. Yes he was now half ghost, but he didn't die for realsies, so the reference of death was just a coincidence, surely.

I am very disappointed in the people praising the censoring / editing of Roald Dahl's books.
Let me tell you a little story.
About five years ago I decided to re-visit Treasure Island. I found an unabridged version. I was surprised to discover that Long John Silver had a black lover. Because the book used the term "n--ress" the mention of her was removed from many American editions of the book when I grew up.
Note: I am not saying they removed the N word. I am saying they removed her *all together.* I didn't know Long John Silver had a love interest until I was in my thirties and read an unabridged version of the novel.
It revealed so much about the story that I hadn't noticed before.
1. That Long John Silver believed in love despite what was considered a cultural norm of the time. He didn't care about what others considered proper and he was in love.
2. It shows that even Robert Louis Stevenson acknowledged the existence of interracial couples and yet no movie version I can think of addressed this until the TV series Black Sails.
3. It helped remind me of the culture of the era in which Treasure Island takes place and when it was written, the stigma against interracial relationships that existed in America right into the twentieth century and in some places is still a thing.
Sometimes books tell us more than just a story. They show us how a world was once viewed.
I felt like this was an important discovery, that Long John Silver had a black lover (or wife). And I was even a little angry that I had been robbed of this in previous readings of the book.
I think the removal of words like "Fat" and "ugly" from Roald Dahl's books does us a disservice. It "cleans up" the past and denies a chance for us to learn some of the less pleasant aspects of the past and how and why language has changed since then. What should be a teaching point and experience is lost in the name of sensitivity.
I felt cheated and it even felt a little racist that Long John Silver's love interest isn't mentioned in many editions of Treasure Island. And I feel that one day there may be similar feelings if people discover they aren't reading the original versions of Dahl's books.
Try to remember the original reason Ray Bradbury wrote Fahrenheit 451. It wasn't about an evil government taking away people's blooks. It was about this group and that group getting offended at various titles until they just banned everything to try to make everyone happy.

You don’t have to pay for that fancy worldbuilding program
As mentioned in this post about writing with executive dysfunction, if one of your reasons to keep procrastinating on starting your book is not being able to afford something like World Anvil or Campfire, I’m here to tell you those programs are a luxury, not a necessity: Enter Google Suite (not sponsored but gosh I wish).
MS Office offers more processing power and more fine-tuning, but Office is expensive and only autosaves to OneDrive, and I have a perfectly healthy grudge against OneDrive for failing to sync and losing 19k words of a WIP that I never got back.
Google’s sync has never failed me, and the Google apps (at least for iPhone) aren’t nearly as buggy and clunky as Microsoft’s. So today I’m outlining the system I used for my upcoming fantasy novel with all the helpful pictures and diagrams. Maybe this won’t work for you, maybe you have something else, and that’s okay! I refuse to pay for what I can get legally for free and sometimes Google’s simplicity is to its benefit.
The biggest downside is that you have to manually input and update your data, but as someone who loves organizing and made all these willingly and for fun, I don’t mind.
So. Let’s start with Google Sheets.
The Character Cheat Sheet:
I organized it this way for several reasons:
I can easily see which characters belong to which factions and how many I have named and have to keep up with for each faction
All names are in alphabetical order so when I have to come up with a new name, I can look at my list and pick a letter or a string of sounds I haven’t used as often (and then ignore it and start 8 names with A).
The strikethrough feature lets me keep track of which characters I kill off (yes, I changed it, so this remains spoiler-free)
It’s an easy place to go instead of scrolling up and down an entire manuscript for names I’ve forgotten, with every named character, however minor their role, all in one spot
Also on this page are spare names I’ll see randomly in other media (commercials, movie end credits, etc) and can add easily from my phone before I forget
Also on this page are my summary, my elevator pitch, and important character beats I could otherwise easily mess up, it helps stay consistent
*I also have on here not pictured an age timeline for all my vampires so I keep track of who’s older than who and how well I’ve staggered their ages relative to important events, but it’s made in Photoshop and too much of a pain to censor and add here
On other tabs, I keep track of location names, deities, made-up vocabulary and definitions, and my chapter word count.
The Word Count Guide:
*3/30 Edit to update this chart to its full glory. Column 3 is a cumulative count. Most of what I write breaks 100k and it's fun watching the word count rise until it boils over.
This is the most frustrating to update manually, especially if you don’t have separate docs for each chapter, but it really helps me stay consistent with chapter lengths and the formula for calculating the average and rising totals is super basic.
Not that all your chapters have to be uniform, but if you care about that, this little chart is a fantastic visualizer.
If you have multiple narrators, and this book does, you can also keep track of how many POVs each narrator has, and how spread out they are. I didn’t do that for this book since it’s not an ensemble team and matters less, but I did for my sci-fi WIP, pictured below.
As I was writing that one, I had “scripted” the chapters before going back and writing out all the glorious narrative, and updated the symbols from “scripted” to “finished” accordingly.
I also have a pie chart that I had to make manually on a convoluted iPhone app to color coordinate specifically the way I wanted to easily tell who narrates the most out of the cast, and who needs more representation.

Google Docs
Can’t show you much here unfortunately but I’d like to take an aside to talk about my “scene bits” docs.
It’s what it says on the tin, an entire doc all labeled with different heading styles with blurbs for each scene I want to include at some point in the book so I can hop around easily. Whether they make it into the manuscript or not, all practice is good practice and I like to keep old ideas because they might be useful in unsuspecting ways later.
Separate from that, I keep most of my deleted scenes and scene chunks for, again, possible use later in a “deleted scenes” doc, all labeled accordingly.
When I designed my alien language for the sci-fi series, I created a Word doc dictionary and my own "translation" matrix, for easy look-up or word generation whenever I needed it (do y'all want a breakdown for creating foreign languages? It's so fun).
Normally, as with my sci-fi series, I have an entire doc filled with character sheets and important details, I just… didn’t do that for this book. But the point is—you can still make those for free on any word processing software, you don’t need fancy gadgets.

I hope this helps anyone struggling! It doesn’t have to be fancy. It doesn’t have to be expensive. Everything I made here, minus the aforementioned timeline and pie chart, was done with basic excel skills and the paint bucket tool. I imagine this can be applicable to games, comics, what have you, it knows no bounds!
Now you have one less excuse to sit down and start writing.

boothill body headcanons
originally the intention was to put this in my general headcanons list once i released those... however, i realized that they'd take up a good 3/4ths of the list, so i'm making a separate post for them.
no content warnings needed, but there are very minor mentions of doing repairs on him. no mentions of reader's gender, all gender neutral.

his body really is state of the art, one of the kind, designed specifically for him. and because of that, he wants to make sure that anyone that touches or offers to do repairs for him understands how his body works. he's prone to doing his own repairs, even if it's a considerably awkward position for him. or he'll put off repairs until he manages to get back to someone who
he can go about a week tops of low energy work before he truly needs to recharge, about 3-4 days if he's doing high intensity hunting or other forms of work. thankfully for him, he has a "low energy mode" similar to how people sleep that helps him conserve energy. while he doesn't recharge in this mode, it does allow his energy reserves to not deplete as quickly.
when/if his charge starts running out, he'll seem more tired and quiet than usual. he'll complain about his joints aching, being slow. his beacon will make him slur words instead of censor them if he tries to cuss. eventually he'll realize what's going on and go plug himself in to charge.
anytime he starts cussing too fast or hard, his beacon eventually won't be able to keep up. so, instead of censoring with compliments, he'll get censored with little beeps and chirps.
he has the ability to change what sounds his body makes. he can make it a heartbeat, his fans whirring, a mechanical purr noise. he likes tinkering with modifications and seeing what he can manage to make his body do without any assistance. just tell him what you'd like to hear from him, and he'll see if he can manage it.
despite his body being state of the art, he unfortunately does still run the risk of overheating. to combat this, he has various coolant reserves around his body and fans that activate once he reaches a certain internal temperature. the coolant is similar to sweat in humans, gleaming on his body, and his ventilation causes him to expand a little bit. think of a short-horned lizard puffing its neck out in defense but, in this situation, it's so boothill can cool himself down.
... it is a bit intimidating, however, especially once the steam starts rolling down his body and he starts snorting it out. he has had bounties piss themselves seeing him in this specific state.
he also can get embarrassed. but he doesn't blush because he no longer has blood. his motors and fans, however, do start whirring faster and louder. and he has to physically keep his vents from raising to avoid further embarrassment.
he's got a couple of lubricant reserves stored around his body that he can easily access. if he finds himself getting stiff, he'll just shoot a bit of lubricant into the joint to get himself nimble again. these lubricants aren't body safe, specifically designed for mechanical engineering.
... he does, however, have body safe lube stored in his throat that he can easily access by a button on his neck. it makes sex much easier for him.
speaking of sex! he doesn't have a dick. or a hole. instead, he has a grind pad. it's a relatively smooth bulge that looks similar to a large tdick but it's defined and there's some small ridges up and down it. the specific spot is highly sensitive for him, able to orgasm from stimulation (frotting because his favorite) with it, and able to make it vibrate as he wants.
that being said, he does have options. there are a few usb ports on his side that allows him to connect custom sex toys that let him feel whatever you do to them. dildos, holes, you name it, he can probably find it. there's also bluetooth that gives him the option of connecting sex toys to him, but he's a bit hesitant with that option specifically since he's had some... interesting experiences with them.
yes, because he has multiple usb ports, he can technically fuck himself if you plug in a dildo and a hole toy at the same time. yes, he has tried this before. yes, he does do it every once in a blue moon. but because of how exhausting and draining it is for him, it's something that he rarely offers up.
there a certain parts of his body that are sensitive, and they tend to match the erogenous zones for normal human bodies. his inner thighs are especially sensitive, especially closer to his crotch area. so sensitive that it's possible he can cum just from being overstimulated by touch in this area, including from repairs. in general, when he has repairs that need to be made in this area, he does his best to avoid having anyone else help make them.
speaking of repairs, following his repair sessions, that specific spot that he needed to repair can be overly sensitive. most of the time he'll cover it with a bandage to avoid rubbing it against anything. but if he's feel a bit ornery, he may just ask you to "help me recover from my repairs". of course he isn't gonna push it if you say no, but he most definitely will ask if he's feeling a bit playful.
some cyborgs will use a USB port to upload a virus into their system that puts them into overdrive, similar to an incredibly strong aphrodisiac. they tend to last for a couple of hours. yes, he has used them. yes, he frequently uses them when he wants to have a marathon sex session. yes, they have caused him to short circuit and almost shutdown before.
