Okay, I need to rant…

Yuukoku no Moriarty

The discrepancies between the manga and the anime have some inherent controversy

I am not that far into the manga yet but in my re-watch of the anime (the Eng Dub is on crunchy roll) I‘m at the backstory episodes and

I want to say my piece, I actually think there are two main things these episodes do better than the manga.

First I want to say I feel the manga does a better job overall with the backstory, that it’s Albert’s agency and his drive and decision

But the scene where the original William is getting killed… I actually prefer the anime version in such that it establishes the dynamic between Albert and Will

"[Albert will] tell us what he wants himself. Though if this were a horse race, I'd be ready to place my bet now."

In the manga, it’s Will attacking/ killing the original William, in the anime it’s Albert

The dynamic I’m referring to is as such: in the anime our Will is the instigator, the mastermind. He offers Albert to rid himself of his brother. He provides the plan and the means of execution. But Will doesn’t interfere.

In my opinion that’s a double proof of trust, because Albert trusts in Will’s planning while Will gets proof that Albert is willing to walk the walk.

It’s more impactful, symbolically, because it shows their further dynamic.

I realise and am aware that Albert is just as cunning and just as much the mastermind behind James Moriarty – that’s how he is portrayed in the manga and I think that’s the correct way. It feels more natural than his just being the outside face we get in the anime.

However he has to proof to himself – and to Will – that he is capable of what it takes. That’s why Albert stabbing his brother is more significant than Will doing it. We know Will isn’t above getting his hands dirty. But establishing Albert’s own agency, showing his own drive as strong enough? Yes!

Especially with our Will thanking him after the fact. Because Will provided him with a chance and that better returns what Albert did for him, I think. Because as Will said, it is about exchanging debts and favours. So Will providing chances and the agency still being inherently Albert’s own is meaningful.

So I think that was/ is better in the anime compared to the manga.

The second thing I preferred from the anime over the manga is the house fire. Not the outcome or anything but the method itself.

Obviously both work, sure. But a gas explosion? Making sure the air is too hot to breath even if the inhabitants don’t immediately die from the explosion. It’s more efficient and elegant, in my opinion.

I understand both methods are valid and work well but the gas explosion, flooding the entire mansion with gas before setting up a timed trigger? That’s efficient, brutal, elegant.

I acknowledge accumulating the wax in the lamps took more long-hand planning but I still prefer the anime version.

Overall the manga is obviously better, I fully agree. Albert gets more agency, we get a different perspective on their entire dynamic. Albert founding the MI6 for the sole purpose of sharing those reigns with Will. It’s beautiful and it’s the superior version of the story.

I just have opinions on Will vs. Albert killing the original William and the way the house fire was set-up/ triggered

I love how the amount of light in the scenes can reflect the different shades of morality in the anime.

Sherlock, who is the lighter shade of grey in the story, usually shown thinking inside during daytime when light can fill the room.

William and his group, representing the darker shade of grey, keep plotting at early morning or late evening, but the curtain is always pulled away so some light can get inside.

Milverton, who is the black shade of morality tends to plot during the night or with curtains closed so he just sits in the dark.

I love this minor detail!

I think William would let you crash in his office, especially if he really likes you. Sometimes he's in there, sometimes he's not. You would sit in the chair in front of him, which was quite comfy. His office is always warm and smells nice, just like him. You bring a light throw blanket with you if you're feeling extra tired.

You don't talk much when you're there, as he does his own thing. The only sound between the two of you is the scribbling on paper and the occasional sip of tea. It's a comfortable silence that you couldn't replicate with anyone else. He looks up to check on you often.

“Oh dear. You look rather upset.” William’s chuckle came from the doorway, where he was leaning as he watched them huff and puff in frustration.

With a glance of annoyance, they rolled their eyes and went back to fidgeting with the collar of their shirt. “No thanks to you, of course. The marks you left are conspicuous, to say the least.”

“We were in a rush,” he replied in a matter-of-fact tone. “And you know I tend to get… enthusiastic when you drag me into abandoned rooms in the middle of balls.”

“That was yesterday evening. It’s been a whole twenty four hours,” they groaned, releasing the collar of their top as they realized that there was no use in trying to hide it with just their clothes. “I thought it would be gone by now.”

“I’m sorry, my dear.” William walked up to them, looking anything but sorry as he stared into the mirror. “On the bright side, I suppose no one��s going to have any doubts anymore as to whether or not our marriage is a happy one?”

“Don’t remind me,” they grumbled, feeling their indignation rise once again at his words. Their fumbling in their drawers grew messier as their agitation increased. “The nerve of him! Lord Byron’s certainly got no limits to his rudeness. And the Viscount! He thinks that his own shoddy marriage is enough of a reason to project on everyone else’s.”

Their husband hummed. “I think I heard someone last night, mentioning that his son’s legitimacy was in question.” A mischievous glint twinkled in his eye through the mirror, as he watched them finally pull out their makeup kit and set out to try and cover the blooming red and purple marks on their neck and collarbone. “If someone somehow manages to slip that he bears an uncanny resemblance to his wife’s stableboy up in her estate, then that would be entirely coincidental, would it not?”

Pausing in their ministrations with their powder puff mid-air, they turned to look at him with a look that was a mix of horror and awe. “You truly are something else, Liam. I’d hate to get on your bad side.”

With a smile they could never resist, he rested his hand on their waist, leaning in to press a soft kiss to their forehead, before whispering, “After last night, you should know precisely which side is my favorite.”

His seductive tone didn’t slip past them unnoticed, and they could feel their throat getting drier at the implications of his words, and the memories they brought back. With shaky hands, they tried to finish applying the makeup as best as they could, in a vain attempt to hide their lovebites.

Of course, ever-perceptive William would notice their trembling, if the laugh that left him was any indication. “Is there anything I can do now? Though it does wound me so to see you trying to disguise them, I understand why the nobility seeing them would upset you.”

A thoughtful look crossed their face, before they turned in his arms to face him properly. “I might have an idea to scandalize them even more.”

He arched his eyebrow at that. “Oh?”

Their eyes now held the sort of glimmer that always appeared whenever they made love between the sheets until the break of dawn and until they grew delirious with pleasure, or whenever they escaped for a passionate, whirlwind of a tryst with him down the hallways of some nobleman’s mansion. It was a look he’d never get tired of; a look that spoke volumes of how much they’d always want him.

Looking as tempting as ever, they smiled wickedly as they leaned in close enough to smell his cologne. Deft fingers found his own pale neck, teasingly stroking the skin and watching as it pebbled at their touch. “If you give me a hickey, I'll have to give you one too, don’t you think?” Daringly, their teeth nipped at a particular spot underneath his jaw that always had him swallowing thickly. “Or ten.”

“Well,” William managed to say after a few beats of stunned silence, somehow managing to sound somewhat well-composed, though some other body parts proved otherwise. “I can quickly think of ten places for them. Do be quick though, darling. We wouldn’t want them to think we’re improper, would we?”

“Oh no, certainly not,” they chuckled, moving back to fall against the bed behind them and pulling him to them by the belt loops. “The hosts themselves can’t be too late, I suppose.” Toying with the button of his pants, they could hear his breath hitching. “You’ll have to forgive me for being a bit rough with you then, if we want to greet the guests on time.”

“Have me as you wish,” he mumbled, before tumbling back onto the bed with his ever-so-tempting spouse in a flurry of eager limbs and unabashed desire.

Format: Headcanons

Albert James Moriarty:

Albert sleeps like a baby.

Once he's in bed, he's out.

He usually sleeps either with your head resting on his chest or his arm.

Albert snores a lot, and he'll sometimes talk in his sleep.

It took a while to get used to, but it doesn't bother you after a few weeks.

All three brothers probably wear robes to bed, and Albert's is obviously emerald green.

William James Moriarty:

It takes forever for William to sleep.

You're usually dead asleep before he even gets into the bed.

If you're not playing strategy games with him before bed, like chess, he's up all night and passing out at the most random times during the day.

He desperately needs to sleep.

On the nights you can get him to sleep, it's impossible to get him off of you because he likes to cuddle and believes that it helps him sleep.

William also wears a robe to bed, and it's still obviously scarlet.

He does snore, but it's not very loud and obnoxious, and like I said earlier, you're usually asleep before he is, so it doesn't even matter.

Louis James Moriarty:

Louis also sleeps like a baby.

He isn't much of a cuddler, but he doesn't mind it if you really want/need to.

His robe is Lavender

He sleeps really peacefully and doesn't snore or anything.

But after William's 'death', he was very restless, and when he was able to sleep, he was tossing turning and mumbling all night. Bless his sweet heart.
