If Kensei had been staring it'd only been because he thought it was unfair { and unreal } that Kuchiki Byakuya should be allowed to duck out from under an arranged and already on-going marriage, and instead date his lieutenant. Which Kensei suspected must have gone on for a while for the Sixth division's captain to get attached enough to give up tradition for him. Kensei thought about doing the same for Shuuhei and it dysregulated his entire system. He couldn't tell whether the prospect made him feel happy or guilty, or both, but he knew it was upsetting him.

It was striking how similar their situations were. Both noblemen; both heads of their families; both expected to marry, not for love, but for the good of their clan and for the continuation of their bloodline; both head over heels in love with their { male } lieutenants.

Fuck.

'It's a shame,' his grandfather had said when he'd heard the news about the Kuchiki's failed arranged marriage 'that boy had so much potential..' Clearly, he did not approve, though what followed had felt like a spear driving through Kensei's stomach. 'At least our clan-head isn't so foolish.' And even though his family had spoken as though they thought Kensei would never discard his duty like that, their search for a suitable wife seemed to become all the more feverish. Kensei had had no rebuttal. He had no choice but to wait for the inevitable. It was all Kuchiki Byakuya's fault.

He scowled up at the younger man. "How could you betray your family like that?" But really, what he meant was: How did you find the courage?

i have had the absolute pleasure of working with my youngest on the reboot of justified, but i gotta admit she has somehow surpassed me as the coolest olyphant on set. i don't know how it happened, or how she suddenly became cooler than me, but here we are. i suppose the student has surpassed the teacher at this point, and it's time for me to step back and let her become the coolest olyphant in hollywood. for those who don't know me, i'm timothy, and i am now the irrelevant olyphant in hollywood. @hfrpstarters
