HOCUS POCUS 2: Thoughts🔮
It is new and original but it completely respects the first one. Every new element was brought in without fear but with great respect of first movie’s elements and vibes
The Sanderson Sisters are facing a new world and a new situation but they’re still the witches we knew. The actresses were phenomenal in taking this new challenge without missing a beat and without changing their characters’ nature
The music and the fun is just as strong and inviting as it is in the first one
The flashback to the day Winnie became a witch was a gem that gave depth and more meaning to literally everything: the sisters’s personal story and relationship but also the history of magic and witches and Book. It felt a lot like a gift. The young actresses that played the young witches did a great job, bringing in the young versions everything that makes the “old” ones peculiar and well, them
HANNAH FUCKING WADDINGHAM!!!!!! She came and she slayed. She had one scene, which is sad because she could have done a lot more if given the chance, but that still showed how much she can do even if she is given very little screen time. She fucking slayed the role and the scene. She played a witch before but still manages to reinvent the role and do something different, new, original and fucking brilliant! Every little detail, the tone of her voice, the hand gestures, the way she moves, the micro expressions on her face, the freaking look in her eyes!!!! I can’t even! And the fact that in such little time she played a very ample range of emotions and feelings, being able to make them distinct and recognisable. She was happy and she cared about this opportunity she had and it showed. Her scene was short but her role, the mother witch, is *huge* because she started it all and she made it matter. In simpler words she was phenomenal, I love her with all my heart, I’m extremely proud and happy for her because she deserves everything in the world and I am so grateful that she is now part of this iconic project that I love so incredibly much.
BILLY BUTCHERSON! nothing else to add tbh
I loved that the message was simple but very meaningful and it got across loud and clear
I loved everything but the scene where Sarah and Mary are gone and Winnie is left alone broke my heart. Bette Midler really performed some magic there, it felt like she reached inside of Winnie’s heart and gave it to us. Her timing, the tone of her voice, the words she spoke and the way she spoke them, the look in her eyes and the tears trembling but not falling, the final resignation to her fate because nothing mattered without her sisters. It was a masterpiece and yes I cried like a baby
Sequels are often disappointing but this one was definitely NOT. It was simply amazing, they did a great job on all levels. Casting, writing, concept, music, directing. Everything is perfect and I can’t wait to watch it again and again and again and make it a part of my pack of comfort movies. Beautiful, definitely the world’s and *my* favourite sisters ✨💜💚❤️✨
Ps: just like the end of the first movie could be an opening for a second one, I believe this end of the second could be an opening for a third movie. I choose to believe it’s a possibility

The Akatsuki’s Favorite Halloween Movies
Deidara, Hidan and Tobi: Halloween (1978) and Halloween II (1981)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The iconic theme song. The silent killer stalking his victims in the chill of the night. The way he never says any words, never gives any warning sign of his presence until it’s too late. There are a thousand different reasons why these two movies are the favorite of this particular trio. They like to camp out in the living room and watch them back to back. Sometimes they’ll eat snacks, sometimes they’ll style each others hair, a couple of times they’ve carved pumpkins like the characters in the movie. Deidara and Tobi love the first Halloween the most, and neither felt like such a perfection in storytelling really needed a sequel. Tobi especially likes to argue on how Michael Myers is scary not because of the mask (while touching his own) but because you as the viewer don’t know the motivations behind why he targets this particular group of people. Hidan got them into Halloween II and insists that it’s still scary even knowing (some) of Myer’s thought processes. And Deidara has to admit the lab explosion scene at the end is “an artistic masterpiece, hm!”
Konan: Hocus Pocus (1993)
Tumblr media
Konan doesn’t really like scary movies, exactly. She likes things that are light and childlike, and films that evoke a sense of nostalgia. No Halloween movie gives her that sense of fulfillment quite like Hocus Pocus. The story of the boy who was turned into a cat trying to save his sister  resonates with Konan, as she would have done anything to save her “family” (Yahiko and Nagato). The sweet teen love story between Max and Allison really moves her, and she has a soft spot for Max’s quirky little sister Dani. And speaking of sisters, The Sanderson Sisters holds a place on Konan’s heart as some of the greatest “villains” of all time. She’s made Deidara and Itachi sing “I Put A Spell On You “ with her more times than they care to admit, with her as the lead witch of Winnie. They’ve even dressed up as the sisters one Halloween, with Konan as Winnie, Deidara as Sarah, and Itachi as Mary. They looked fabulous but of course Hidan never lets Deidara or Itachi forget that they “dressed up like chicks”.
Nagato and Kisame: Halloweentown (1998)
Tumblr media
Another nostalgic movie that isn’t really scary so much as it’s fun. For both of them, the notion of an entire town where “freaks” aren’t only welcome but are the norm, is very appealing to them. Kisame knows his shark-like appearance would fit right in to this mythical place, and Nagato imagines that he and his Pein bodies could really find their niche there. Kisame in general is a big fan of classic movies, and has long since been a fan of the work of Debbie Reynolds. When he found out that she played the lovable witch grandmother to Marnie in this movie, well, he was hooked. The two like to eat a lot of candy while watching this movie (it’s the only time of year that either of them truly indulges in sweets) and discuss ways they could improve the government of this fabled town.
Kakuzu: Beetlejuice 1988
Tumblr media
Kakuzu admires the character of Beetlejuice. The man is long dead yet he’s managed to use his talent of being repulsive as a means to earn income by scaring living people out of ghosts’ former homes. Kakuzu’s always says that “Hell runs on money”, and this movie gives credibility to the idea that he’s right. He hopes that if and when he finally dies, he will be able to use his talents of bounty hunting in the afterlife to keep on earning money. Maybe wrangling up wayward spirits that don’t accept that they’ve passed on? Or souls that don’t follow whatever the rules of the afterlife are? Kakuzu sees the possibilities as being endless. Kakuzu has also always had an eye for architecture and especially buildings or structures that are way outside of the norm. He’s fascinated by the remodeling that Delia Deetz does to Maitland’s house, and secretly would love such a bizarrely constructed house to live in himself one day.
Itachi: A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)
Tumblr media
Itachi despises Freddy Krueger. In his mind, the man being burned alive was too light a punishment for the atrocious acts he committed against children. BUT the Uchiha was understandably drawn in by the concept of being able to control and manipulate someone through their dreams. Very similar to gengetsu, and some of the nightmares that Freddy gives to people have become inspiration for visions that Itachi’s given to his enemies. Konan likes to watch this movie with him, as she likes the character of Nancy Thompson; but she gets so scared during the movie that she has to hold on to Itachi’s arm for support the whole time. Itachi often comes away with deep fingerprints imbedded into his skin the next day.
Zetsu: Little Shop Of Horrors (1986)
Tumblr media
It should be no big surprise that a movie about a sentient plant with a rapidly developing lust for human flesh would be Zetsu’s favorite Halloween film. He loves how manipulative the plant Audrey II is with Seymour, and how easily he’s able to convince him to “feed” him. Zetsu also loves how campy this movie is, with the overzealous acting and the constant musical numbers. He’s tried to convince the entire Akatsuki to put this on as a play, and invite people from neighboring villages to come and watch. When Nagato questioned what they would do after the viewers realized they were all Akatsuki members, Zetsu’s solution was to invite them backstage to “meet” Audrey II … and never emerge again. Of course his idea was shot down, but he still loves the movie and watches it at least 10 times every October.
Sasori and Orochimaru: Child’s Play (1988)
Tumblr media
This one almost seems too obvious, but Sasori really, REALLY loves the character of Charles Lee Ray, aka Chucky. Finding a way to beat death by transferring his soul into a body that could never be hurt, or age, or die? Sasori was sold from the first time his grandmother let him watch this film as a little boy. Of course Chucky’s body isn’t without flaws; in fact carefully studying Chucky’s design is what’s driven Sasori to make so many improvements on his own body. When Orochimaru was still in the Akatsuki these two would watch Child’s Play and it’s sequels, and argue on whether Chucky had found the best path to immortality. One thing that Sasori can’t relate to, however, is Chucky’s desire to transfer his soul back out of a doll and into another human body. Sasori prefers to stay in his doll body for eternity. Orochimaru, however, was very, very intrigued at the idea of putting one’s essence into different bodies, and this movie opened up his mind to hours of research (and eventually trial and error) on the subject.

Hocus Pocus 2
Review: *Spoilers start at the end of paragraph 3
Tumblr media
Look, I am a witchy girl. I love black cats, and medieval/Victorian fashion, and all things magic. With this I have also fallen in love with witch-themed movies and books. Wicked, Practical Magic, and Harry Potter I all love. But little else signifies the transition into the Halloween season for me quite like Hocus Pocus. Me and my family have been watching this movie every October for, I don’t even know how many years. So, you can imagine that I was very excited, but skeptical, when Disney announced that they would be coming out with a second movie. And all I can say is, I am pleasantly surprised. I’m not sure how bad a movie can even be with the Sanderson Sisters at the helm, and while the first Hocus Pocus is superior, this one was still loads of fun to watch and I have zero regrets. I don’t care about the new teen leads. I had no emotional connection to them, I didn’t care about them, they didn’t matter. They were a means to an end to get this second movie made. But every scene with the Sandersons or Billy, pure childhood nostalgia. To start with the real stars of this movie, lets discuss the witches. I remember vividly just transitioning from wanting to be a princess one day, to wanting to be a witch the next. They’re stories always just end up being much more sympathetic, and they just seem like more fun. Seeing the sisters on the screen, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy just looked like they were having so much fun. The dynamic between the three girls is as amusing and entertaining as it has always been, but they added an extra emotional element by giving us an origin where Winifred was almost taken from her sisters. And the ending where Winnie sees her sisters die, and without a second thought says that she doesn’t care about her powers, she wants her sisters back, it was just beautiful. But it was made even greater when revealed the sisters weren’t returning, she was going to them, and Winnie just had the most content smile on her face. You just can’t not love those witchy sisters. Next: Billy. I always liked Billy a lot. Next to Sarah he was my favorite character. But he just became even more lovable in this film, and even more like Johnny Depp Jack Sparrow/Edward Scissorhands character, so that I fully fell in love with him. I was skirting the edge of that pond before, but now I’m completely submerged and have zero regrets. I don’t know why actors focusing on physicality makes me fall for them, but every jerky movement Billy made just made me fall further and further. I also just loved the way he talked, and his insults to Winifred. Doug Jones was just fantastic in this role. I didn’t care for when the Sandersons appeared and did the musical number in the forest, because that’s meant to bewitch people and there was no one they were trying to bewitch. I was suddenly super afraid they were just gonna Disney Channel-ify the whole thing, but their cover of “One Way or Another” was super fun to watch. Also, I’m a little confused. Winnie plainly stated in the original movie that her book was given to her by Satan himself, so either that witch in the woods was Satan in disguise and Disney thought that Satan is too scary for kids, or the writers just forgot a key part of the canon they had to follow. I’m hoping it’s the former. I also really enjoyed all the callbacks to the original, including the fourth wall break of two guys actually watching a scene from the first Hocus Pocus. We had another black cat (though nonspeaking), Sarah’s song was reprised several times, and we got a random town’s lady in the mothers iconic Madonna costume. There were also mentions of Sarah’s hidden rat tails, talk of the spell that would one day be used on Binx, Mary riding a vacuum again (but this time two roombas), the use of water to trick the witches, the sisters saying “Buh-bye”, and Sarah gleefully shouting “Amok! Amok! Amok!”
Overall, the movie was just a good time. The Sandersons were fabulous as ever, most jokes landed, Billy was amazing, and it was about time that a book shed a tear after all the times they’ve made me cry. Is there going to a third one? The post-credit scene sure made it look like it, but I would be satisfied with this movie concluding the Hocus Pocus story. I was incredibly impressed with the writers’ abilities to not only emulate key characteristics of the witches, but also add more depth to them. If you’re looking for a high-quality feature, this movie isn’t for you. But if you want to have some fun, experience a spin on nostalgia, and get into the season, it’s a really good and quick watch. After all, it’s not meant to be a life-changing thing. It’s just a bunch of hocus pocus.

Tumblr media
I occasionally play a game on my iPhone called Disney’s Emoji Blitz. Its one of the match-up type games using emoji icons of various Disney characters. Last year they added the Sanderson Sisters from “Hocus Pocus”.
Tumblr media
In the last few days the game icon was updated (see above). Two of the emojis are clearly Winnie and Mary (Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy). The third emoji is an an ugly pig like creature.
What does it mean?!?
Has Sarah Jessica Parker been replaced in the upcoming sequel?
Is someone making a editorial statement about what they think of her?
Did her last Botox treatment fail?

It’s Just A Bunch Of Hocus Pocus
Sisters I suggest we form a calming circle because Hocus Pocus Limited Edition Dolls are finally coming to ShopDisney this October. We haven’t had to wait 300 years but for die-hard fans of the movie, which was released in 1993 and has remained a holiday staple ever since, the release of these dolls comes as a big treat. The Spellbinding Sanderson Sisters will be available across Europe on Tuesday the 5th of October 2021. Those wishing to snag any of these magical dolls will be able to do so online from 8am on ShopDisney EU or in select stores (Oxford Street, London, Grafton Street, Dublin, and Champs-Élysées, Paris). There will be 3,000 of each doll available in Europe. Each doll will retail for 120euros (bubble bubble my wallet’s in trouble!). I believe they stand at around 11inches tall. I cannot wait for these dolls to run amok in my collection.
Tumblr media
Let’s take a closer look at each of the dolls and see what fun details Disney has included.
We’ll start with the glorious Winifred
Tumblr media
As you can see each doll comes with a standard black stand to display them on. Winnie is accompanied by her faithful Book, containing all of the spells and potions for their magical mischief making. She also comes with a sweeping brush taken from the broom cupboard of the Sanderson Sisters House/Museum and used to fly after Dani, Binx, Max and Alison in their hunt to retrieve the book. The dress and cloak, although faithful to the movie, doesn’t look like it’s the best quality (but that’s just my opinion). I do love the colours and I’m a huge fan of Winnie’s face here. They captured the iconic lips perfectly. I also really like her hair, they seem to have gotten the colour and shape spot on.
Tumblr media
Winnie’s box art features the Book and a potion bottle, probably in reference to the Life Potion that keeps the sisters looking young and living forever. The green on the box ties in with her dress and in the background you can see the split colours of orange and blue, each of which lines up with Sarah and Mary’s box (with Winnie placed in the middle). If you go from right to left with the boxes lined up, the colour fades from dark blue to orange possibly in reference to dawn approaching (I dunno I might be reaching here).
Next up is Mary.
Tumblr media
I cannot stress how much I love this doll. She is my favourite out of the three sisters. The details on her dress are just stunning and that face! Goosebumps. The expression is just perfect, I can almost hear her saying “I smell children”. Her hair is black and purple just like the movie and styled with braids in her signature coiffure. She has the black display stand that the other two dolls have. Thackery Binx is also included in his cat form. I do love the wide-eyed look he has here, it’s almost like he’s in shock after the transformation is complete. Mary also comes with the vacuum cleaner she uses to fly.
Tumblr media
Mary’s box art features Binx and interestingly Dead Man’s Toe, one of the ingredients needed for their Life Potion.
And finally there’s Sarah.
Tumblr media
Ok I’ll be honest I was kind of disappointed by Sarah. Her face just looks...off to me. She weirdly reminds me of the Ariel doll from the Ralph Breaks The Internet princess doll set. The hair is all wrong for me too. It’s got way too much product and just falls in these two big stiff curls. It’s not all bad though, I do like the details on the dress and cloak (however I do wish the quality was slightly better for the price you’ll pay). And I love, love, love that she comes with the black flame candle which has some incredible detail when you look closely! Sarah also comes with a mop which she uses to fly and the black display stand.
Tumblr media
Sarah’s box arts features a candle, it’s not quite the black flame candle to me but you be the judge, and an eye. I do love that there’s a spider in the tree on the left as fans will recall Sarah eating a spider she finds after leaving the house for the first time after their resurrection.
Overall I’m just thrilled we’re finally getting the Sanderson Sisters brought back to life (albeit in doll form). I do wish the quality was better for the price. Honestly I’d be way more comfortable if they were around the 50euros mark. Drop a comment and let me know if you’ll be including the Sanderson Sisters in your collection.

✨ I am beautiful! Boys will love me! ✨✨ I’ve been so jazzed to add the Sanderson Sisters to the 1920s line up to start off spooky season! I flip flopped between keeping her long hair or cutting it short but decided that she most definitely would have followed the true flapper lifestyle of the day. I wanted to incorporate a lot of her iconic silhouette and patterns while making it very 20s. Therefore, lots of drapery fabric to allude go her skirts and v shapes for the “corset”. And of course a flamboyant shawl. Also, yes she is wearing her lucky rat tail and also a locket with “B” for Billy. Winnie starts live on Wednesday! ✨✨ 🔮 🖤 #hocuspocus #spookybitch #spookyart #halloween #witchesofinstagram #sarahsanderson #sandersonsisters #salem #salemmassachusetts #witchaesthetic #vintagestyle #flapper #flapperstyle #disneystyle #disneygram #characterart #costumedesign #conceptart #digitalillustration #illo #roaring20s #disneyvillains #salemwitch https://www.instagram.com/p/CE26Lzmjn-Q/?igshid=1k52jg47gpyf3

“I hate Halloween.” { Connor for Aubrey }
halloween sentence starters
Upon further discussion with her besties, they all had their assigned Sanderson sister. It was decided that Aubrey would be the Head Witch in Charge Winnie, Hannah would be the ditzy flirtatious Sarah, and Erin would be the right-hand Mary. They were quite the iconic trio, and she couldn’t be more excited for this party.
Putting the finishing touches on her hair, which was easily the most difficult piece of this costume, Aubrey was ready to go. “Well, what do you think?” She asks as she steps into the living room where only Connor was waiting. Apparently Haley was still getting herself ready for the party. “It looks good, right?”
Tumblr media
As Connor sings his praises, Aubrey smiles, feeling pleased with the result. However, as she notes his ‘costume’, the smile quickly disappears. “You’re not seriously going like that, are you?” Apparently he did as he gave some lame explanation about being a random Gotham city citizen. Basically just an excuse to not dress up and wear what he usually did. How boring. “Connor, it’s a Halloween party. Seriously?”
“I hate Halloween.”
“Well, the Grinch hated Christmas until he finally gave it a chance,” she quips as she reaches for his hands to pull him up. “I know Haley isn’t going to gripe about your lack of festiveness, but I am. So don’t argue. Let’s get you into the holiday spirit.”
