Malleus Info Compilation part 10: Vil and the Main Story
In the main story we meet Malleus for the first time in Book 2 where he chooses not share his name, saying that “It is for your own benefit, I assure you. Instead, I will permit you to call me by a name of your choosing. Although you may one day regret it…”
Malleus appears again in Book 3 and learns that the player has dubbed him “Hornton". He refers to the player as “fearless”.
At the end of Book 3 he expresses surprise that the player was able to win their bet against Azul, calling the player both “doe-eyed” and “quite the schemer” and disappearing until Book 5, when he reveals that he had earlier sent Lilia with a greeting card in Book 4.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Malleus appears before other students and Grim for the first time at the end of Book 5, and Vil expresses a fearlessness that is similar to Leona’s approach to Malleus.
Malleus says “I’m most impressed. A magical reaction on the level of an overblot…and not a single one of the many mages on campus, myself included, took notice of it.” Rather cryptically he says, “I suppose it’s immaterial, at the end of the day.”
While he says he is bestowing “a gift” upon the “children of man” (both Malleus and Lilia refer to humans as “children of men”, but just as often simply say “humans”), Malleus says “You owe me, Schoenheit”, implying that his help is less so a gift and more so a favor for Vil.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Malleus announces “With the stage restored, I can watch you perform now. That’s the extent of my interest in this matter”, telling Vil that “I’ve set the stage for you, Schoenheit. I trust you will keep me suitably entertained”.
Malleus describes the group’s performance as “somewhat entertaining” and “worth fixing up the stage to see it”, with Lilia commenting that he seems “even more engaged than you were at my live show”.
This "gift" is referenced later in Book 6, when Vil returns from the Island of Woe having aged into an old man. Malleus observes, "When I fixed the VDC stage, I told Schoenheit that he owed me...but his deeds on this occasion have returned the favor and left me in his debt instead."
He then rewards Vil with his youth returned, saying, "Not even I can turn back time. But sharing a bit of magic is certainly within my power."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the conclusion of events of Book 5 the audience is encouraged to use QR codes to submit their votes and decide the winner of the competition, and we see a montage of different characters with a chime sound to signify that they have voted successfully.
When Cater is alone on screen there is one chime, two chimes for Trey and Riddle and three chimes for Azul, Jade and Floyd. When Maellus and Lilia are on screen, only one chime sounds, insinuating that the technologically-challenged Malleus may have struggled with the QR code.
The NRC team loses the competition by a single vote.
Malleus does not appear in Book 2 but is heavily referenced, as Savanaclaw beating Diasomnia (and Malleus, specifically) in a Spelldrive tournament is the driving force behind Book 2’s conflict.
We learn from Crowley that ever since Malleus enrolled NRC, “no dorm has scored even a single point against Diasomnia. Diasomnia regularly scores 100 points per game, with 90% of them being from Mr. Draconia himself. Recent matches have been ending without anyone, save Mr. Draconia, casting even a single spell. And that includes his own teammates!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Malleus agrees to be inducted into the hall of fame, which would retire him from the sport and give other athletes opportunities, but Leona and Vil argue against it, with Vil saying to Crowley that “It reeks of some kind of unconscious bias on your part”.
(We also see Leona and Vil put aside their differences in collaboration against Malleus in Phantom Bride, vowing to prove themselves to be more desirable.)

What’s your take on Neige?
I just like a discussion about him because both side of the hate/love spectrum can agree that this bitch need more screentime and development.
Note
This is a respectful discussion/analysis of a character. Do not start fighting in my note, I just want to know if you like the character and why/why not and if you have a counterpoint to other people arguments I don’t wanna see “BUT HE SUCK” or “BUT HE DIDN’T DO ANYTHING WRONG!” We heard you the first time. You yelling louder won’t make ten other person like/hate Neige less
This is is completely about Neige not Neige’s fan so if you like Neige the negative comments is not being thrown towards you but the character itself. There is no reason for you to feel attacked. Unless you’re Rook Hunt /j
If you have a terrible experience with his irl fans you can share it but understand that a select group of people is not what everyone is.
My take:
Personally I hate the mf. As a person, could not give a shit— if I were in twst I might think he’s overrated but I could not give a shit about him. As a character, he is absolutely atrocious.
He’s Kalim but worse. They have similar personalities of being oblivious and dense but are really nice to people. Their role in the story is also the same, being the kind of childhood friend that admire the person who overblot and didn’t know that they hurt those people. Kalim is better because in the end he’s aware of his mistakes and learn from it. He grew from how he was in the past. Neige doesn’t. He isn’t aware of Vil, that we know of. He doesn’t change in anyway from start to finish when he should’ve. Why?
Because he shouldn’t be a background character. He should’ve been more than some guy that appeared. Unlike Che’nya who only role was to be Riddle’s childhood friend or Cheka who more of a comic relief, Neige WON the competition. He’s the antagonist of Vil chapter and he WON. Many other media make the antagonist won with better and more satisfying ending. School of rock; the protagonists lost the competition but they found each other and themselves, Haikyuu; every teams development and it never felt like victory isn’t earn and even when the characters are just side characters we see a bit of their personalities ie. the team that felt like no one take them seriously because they always fighting with the big league.
Neige should’ve been as important as the VDC group. His role is so significant to the story, being Vil’s rival and the winner yet he have no development whatsoever. His exposition is Vil’s talking about him, all the knowledge about him is from Vil which is 1. Bias 2. Breaking the “show don’t tell” rules. With such an important character we should’ve at least see him throughout the story as glimpses not all at once at the end. Maybe Vil take the team on a field trip for their clothes and meet Neige in the town and Neige get to talk to us and tell his side, maybe we go run a manager errand and accidentally bumped into Neige but we don’t know it’s him.
On top of that, Neige should’ve been make aware of Vil’s problems so he can have some change during the story. Maybe he saw Vil overblot, he’ll him realizing Vil was going to poison him and later have a talk with him after the competition would’ve been something. That way he can change as a character, that way there’s a development to the character that had such an impact to the story.
Right now he just feel like a guy that stumble into success— which is sad because that could really be something we can explore in his character. Is he feeling guilty? Does he desperately want Vil attention as his senior? Is he admire Vil and genuinely try to be like him? Realistically, yes, absolutely something like this happen. Someone won because they have more follower, deserved or not. However in story it make it seem like he’s just some Mary Sue. We don’t know his goal in his career, “being a good person” is absolutely a valid character goal but when everyone around said character got a deeper look into their goals it just make “being a good person” seem dull.
TL;DR It is that one quoted that originated from here “The war crime might be fictional but my annoyance is real” Neige character is frustrating because I know it could’ve been better, there are so many ways to make it better, but it just didn’t happen.
If Neige character get further explored? Sure, I can give him a chance just as I did with Jamil story but personally, I wish it would’ve been done in Vil’s chapter. This was not an epilogue like Jamil’s development is it was Neige exposition and they didn’t even try to actually give him a character beyond uwu soft boy

So Merlin the goddamn great, smh but no ROOK LORE I AM FURIOUS! I STILL WANT TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Warning: Spoiler alert!
Oooooofff the final episodes of chapter 5 did seriously explode the fandom I see, from the overblot Grim to our twst Merlin, everything literally everything about the end of this chapter was a big surprise but... This chapter has also brought up a considerably huge wave of drama along with it, which is basically because of Rook voting for RSA instead of NRC. I, personally, considered it to be just a reason to laugh and make a meme or two about this chapter and all. But looking at the fandom, I can clearly see that it's been causing some serious consequences, some fans/creators are leaving the fandom, there has been a couple of offensively worded Rook hate posts (small memes and jokes aren't counted) and there's ever a #RookIsOverParty on Twitter now.
Okay but, it was all cool and chill until it was just a joke. Can't you see? This happens in many fandoms! And is often a good chance to laugh! But...This is getting serious. A huge majority of this fandom (even Rook/Vil shippers and Rook stans themselves) are hating on Rook/Rook stans and fans are leaving, therefore I believe the situation needs to be clarified before it leads to more dramas.
Many of you had also requested a Rook analysis before sooooo- here we go!
Tumblr media
First off, this episode did eventually give us a considerable amount of Rook lore although it wasn't as perfect as we wanted it to be. Most of us wanted to get to know him more, but I'd say focusing on all we've got already would do for now. But before that, let's talk about what exactly happened in chapter 5 and why are fand hating on Rook rn:
after the performances are voted on, it’s revealed that nrc lost to rsa by just a single vote. that vote turned out to be rook, who voted for rsa in favor of their own team as he was moved by their spirit. the whole nrc team is shellshocked (of course) and vil faints
it’s also later revealed that rook is one of neige’s biggest fans, possessing albums full of his bromides, going to each meet and greet, and even writing him anonymous fan letters.
Okay okay I know this was quite unexpected and resulted in NRC's loss, but before you say how much of a shitty character Rook is consider this:
1) He was totally honest with his opinion and thoughts.
One of the interesting facts regarding Rook's character design and presence in chapter 5, is how he played the role of both the huntsman and the mirror.
He was honest with his beliefs and decision, although it was against his friends. Just as how the mirror introduced Snow White as the fairest one of all although Evil Queen didn't want to hear of her.
This is also what Rook did, he judged based on his idealistics towards beauty. NOT because he's a screaming Neige fanboy and NOT because he disliked Vil.
Honestly, if there's one person whose judgement would be strong and on point, that'll be Rook and only him; in parts (2) & (4) we'll explain why.
2) His decision has nothing to do with his personal relationship with Vil!
Yes, he voted for RSA, but to assume that this means he secretly preferred Neige over Vil all this time and call him a betrayer now, that's wrong.
Look, if there one person who could judge NRC's process through the training sessions fairly, that'll be Rook. He's been there all this time, watching each and every second of Vil's coaching and team's progressing, note that he also helped Vil the most, this performance would've been impossible without his help!
But, he was also there when Vil lost it, when Vil's fear of not being the winner took over him and made him even try to poison Neige. At some point Vil was nothing like the perfect coach he was at the very beginning, and if Rook hadn't told Neige to escape who knows how terrible the whole think might've gone.
His decision, on the other hand, was HIS decision. He was asked to choose one performance, and he chose what he liked; that's all, no big deal. Note that the silly thing with the whole issue isn't mainly how Rook voted for RSA, it's also about how half of the audience as well voted for RSA which makes it sound almost stupid, this point will be explained in part (5)!
3) Have you all really forgotten what Rook is like?
I mean, come on this is what he is in general! This is Rook Hunt we're speaking of, one of the rarely known characters of the game and mister of surprises and unpredictable decisions!
Him being a Neige fan is no big deal, and I assure you, he probably stans a lot of other people else than Neige too. Don't forget that this is the same monseiur Rook who gave 100 points! to anyone who participated in NRC's VDC test, so there shouldn't really be a panic taking all over the fandom just because we know he stans Neige, Rook is one to greatly appreciate the concept of beauty in general, and Neige is one of the most famous and beautiful people in the whole twisted wonderland, so other than this being much of a snow white reference, it was totally expected to see him stanning Neige as well. Keep this in mind that just because he's a fan of Neige, it doesn't mean that he hates or he has betrayed Vil.
In Rook's point of view, there is no such thing as rivals in beauty, he just appreciates both Vil and Neige's beauty regardless of what's going on between them.
4) This chapter proved that Rook is indeed a perfect friend for Vil.
While there hasn't ever been a mention of a canon relationship between Vil and Rook, shipper may be happy to know that this episode didn't sink the ship at all. And if you judge and see through what happened in the right eye, you'll see it even shows how strong their friendship is.
Note that this wasn't the first time Rook criticizes Vil either, back in Vil's SR lab coat story he openly criticized Vil and said he's gonna get fat if he continued to eat like this. See? Rook never the once lied to Vil, he openly judges him, and his judgements are logical and on point.
Vil on the other hand is always working his hardest to improve, to become better and completer by each and every day that passes. He needs such a friend by his side to judge him nonetheless, a friend to judge him just like the mirror judged the Queen. But there's a difference, Vil accepts and appreciates criticism BECAUSE, he wants to improve.
A friend like Rook is seriously what he needs, Rook supported and helped him all the way as RSA was getting prepared for VDC, he could've just made them lose and by ruining their training sessions if he wanted to! Can't you see? He helped Vil more than anyone else, but didn't lie to him when it was the time to judge. Vil still has a long way to go, and Rook is aware. He wants Vil to see that he isn't yet complete so that he can become better than he already is.
That's it, that's what a real friend would do.
5) Twst needs to be more considerative toward story line and sudden reveals.
On the one hand, it's mainly fans who are exaggerating the whole issue and starting drama over a simple voting and all, but twst itself as well is partly guilty. This is such a huge and active fandom, each and every detail about the story can be super effective (ex: Sebek being half human, Malleus being an orphan, etc). After making RSA's Yahoo performance look super silly they worst thing they could do was to make NRC lose like this, meaningless, silly and helpless. Why?
Twst seriously needs to take details more seriously as they could've AT LEAST made this comparison sound reasonable by choosing a better and stronger song than a twisted version of Heigh-Ho.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with Rook voting for Neige, but seriously? Rook voting for Neige had to be a symbol of honesty and Rook's loyalty toward the concept of beauty itself and not Vil, not an stupid decision to make Rook prefer a childish song over NRC's wonderful performance and look like a helpless Neige fan boy.
Tumblr media
-Sigh- Well, I guess that's all I had for now, hope I didn't miss anything. But anyway, the Rook drama is slowly getting overwhelming. There's nothing wrong with memes and jokes AS LONG AS THEY'RE JUST A JOKE- offending characters with clear intention and causing drama because of it is not okay. I know that was unexpected please remember not to exaggerate the story too much either!

Vil x Reader x Neige pt.2
The VDC festival is coming soon and Vil was hard at work to perfect his perfect team. As Y/n sat in the judge's seat and drew in their sketchbook, Ace commented on how Y/n wasn't even paying attention.
"Ace, your form was horrible, and you were a few seconds behind everyone else," Y/n said as they looked up from their book.
"Y/n is right rooky #1," Vil said as he tried to fix Ace's stance," Y/n could you be a dear and get us some water?"
"Alright," Y/n smiled as they got up from their seat and left the ballroom.
"Guys check this out, that bird brain is a really good artist," Grimm said as he flipped through Y/n's book.
"H-hey Grimm doesn't do that," Yuu panicked as he pulled the book away.
"Wow, Grimm was right. That birdbrain really is an artist," Ace said as he grabbed the book.
"Wow, they really have an eye for detail," Kalim awed.
"Yes, our monsieur le Roi du Ciel is extremely talented. They are well on their way to being a master artist. Such a rare beauty," Rook smiled.
"This book is almost filled with drawings of Vil," Deuce commented.
"That's because Monsieur le Roi du Ciel's muse is the beautiful Vil himself. And I believe Vil enjoys that," Rook whispered to the group.
"Rook, Stop spilling such rubbish," Vil sighed as continued to admire Y/n's work.
As the group flipped through the pages filled with drawings of Vil, they soon came to an almost finished drawing of Y/n and Neige. A photo reference was clipped at the corner. Vil gasped silently as his body tensed in jealousy, he glared at the filtered photo of his Y/n being all close and friendly with his rival.
'Neige, why must you always be the one to take everything from me?!' Vil growled to himself. _________
As Y/n grabbed a bottled water from the vending machine, they felt their Phone vibrate in their pocket. Pulled out their phone, they quickly recognized that it was Neige.
"Hello Neige," Y/n smiled as they held the phone between their ear and shoulder.
"Hi, Y/n. Sorry if I'm calling at the worst time, but I just really wanted to talk to you again," Neige said from the other side.
"Neige, we hung out a week ago, and VDC is coming soon, And your Career keeps you busy," Y/n smiled.
"I just really miss You. Do you think it's possible to hang out again?" Neige asked.
"I don't know. Hey, why don't we hang out at VDC, and check out the stalls before the performances start?" Y/n asked.
"Yeah I would like that, but there is a practice I have to attend to first. Meet there at the Purple stage?" Neige asked.
"Yeah, I'll see you then," Y/n smiled as they hung up.
___________
Neige sighed as he laid on his bed after the call, he could feel his heart flutter at the sound Of Y/n's voice so close to his ear. Neige smiled as he looked through Y/n's magical account to see if they posted any new works and videos. As he looked through at all of Y/n's beautiful work, something caught his attention. It was a photo that was posted a couple of days ago. In it was Y/n, sitting on a chair, holding a finished portrait painting of Vil. Behind Y/n was Vil himself, as he was resting his forearms on Y/n's shoulders.
Neige's eyes soon landed on the description.
I was lucky enough that the beautiful Vil Schoenheit was willing to lend me some of his time to make this lovely painting of him. I'm glad I was able to work with the fairest.
Something about that made Neige's heart sink a little as he reread the words over. He held the photo of him and Y/n close to his chest as he felt his heartache.
"I'm sure they're my prince charming," he mumbled to himself.
___________
"Vil and Neige had been acting strange, well maybe a bit off as of late. Vil for one has been a bit cold to me as of late. He didn't even want me drawing. He didn't even really want to look at me, while Neige has ghosted me completely. And I don't even know why," Y/n sighed as they ate their salad," And after the final practice, Neige didn't even want to hang out as we planned.
"Maybe, cause the VDC stress is getting to them. So they are mostly focusing on their performances," Yuu suggested.
"That may be the case," Y/n sighed.
Y/n was ordered to create the VDC trophy for the event, they would even be the ones to hand the winners the trophy as well. The two quickly ran to the purple stage for the last practice before the real deal, Team vil became a well-oiled machine and their song was amazing.
"You all Did amazing you guys," Y/n smiled as they handed them a bottle of Epel's apple juice.
They all happily thanked them, while Vil Merely passed Y/n, and ignoring them. Y/n sighed sadly as he made room for Neige and his friends to pass, Y/n smiled as Neige smiled back, but quickly turned to leave unusually quickly.
"Are you alright Y/n?" Yuu asked.
"I-I think I'm gonna go and add final touches to the trophy I made for the VDC," Y/n said sadly," I know when I'm not wanted."
__________
As Y/n made final touches to the VDC trophy, they suddenly heard a shatter outside their waiting room.  Y/n opened the door only for a dark green and purple mist to seep into the room. The moment they breathed in the mist, his lungs burned with every breath as they coughed violently. They held their breath and ran through the mist to see Yuu, Grimm, Kalim, and Rook caught in the same poisonous mist.
"You guy's what Happened?!" Y/n called out through his sleeves.
"Roi du Ciel! Don't come this way!" Rook warned.
Y/n froze in place in place as he took in Rook's warning. Yet as they stood there in the mist, they get a chilling presence staring down at them. They slowly turned to see an overblot Vil Schoenheit floating above him. Chill's ran down his spine as his instincts kicked in, as he jumped away, but vil quickly grabbed their wing and slammed them to the wall.
Y/n groaned in pain from the attack on his body and lunges as the Overblot creature lifted Y/n by their collar.
"V-Vil?! W-what happened to you," Y/n coughed.
"Why would you betray me like that, my artist," Vil growled.
"Wha-What are you talking about?" Y/n chocked.
"Was I not enough!? So much so that your eyes wandered to my enemy, Neige," Vil seethed with anger.
"What does he have to do with-"
"You were mine first! What does he have that I don't, why must he take everything from me!" Vil interrupted as he growled at the frightened siren.
Black spots start to consume their vision, as they grew weak and dangled from Vil's grip. Y/n's breathing started to become more and more shallow as he stared up at the still beautiful vil, as they weakly lifted their hand and softly caressed Vil's cheek.
"So...Beautiful," Y/n chocked out before passing out.
"Don't YOU DARE DECEIVE ME!" Vil shouted, as his hand trembled.
Vil trembled as all sorts of emotions flowed through him. Anger, jealousy, sorrow, and joy flowed through his veins as the poison mist grew more and more toxic, from all his intense conflicting emotions. So much so that the very mist ate away at Y/n's beautiful feathers, leaving all but the alula and marginal covert feathers.
______________
Neige had a massive headache when he came to, one moment he was chatting with Vil, and the next thing he knew he was standing in front of a crowd of his fans. So with much assistance, he was eventually escorted back to the purple stage, only to see a horrible sight in front of him. Paramedics and nurses were rushing about a patient who was being lifted onto a gurney. Neige's heart dropped as he recognized the victim, Y/n.
"Y/N!!" Neige called out as he ran to their side.
He gasped in horror at the sight of them; they were so pale and their wings were burned away. Tears welled up in his eyes as he was them lay unconscious in the gurney with a ventilator mask over his mouth.
"Excuse me sir, but we need to get this student to a hospital right away," Said a nurse as they filled Y/n into the ambulance.

Chapter 5 Thoughts
⚠️ Warning, this is opinion based post ⚠️
Spoilers for Chapter 5, Epel SSR story
Chapter 5, oh dear Chapter 5, you messed up with fandom much more than other chapters aren't you.
Overall thoughts about latest update
It started on the wrong foot for me, RSA winning VDC causing me rage post on Tumblr, but it didn't ended this way for sure.
Was RSA winning expected? Yes it was, but it doesn't make it less heartbreaking.
Rook's vote revelation was shocking for me at least, but I became less upset when Rook explained the reason behind it.
Rook being a Neige's simp is 10/10 for me.
Whole Neige segment with NRC team was cringy but funny (including singing Yahoo).
RSA Headmaster looks like a love child of Merlin and Cinderella's Godmother.
Let NRC win Magift Tournament in May.....please.
Big brain revelation: Mickey can see us only when he is sleeping, but we don't need to sleep in order to see him through the mirror.
Big brain theory: Twisted Wonderland is a dreamland and MC is in coma.
Grim is freaking scary and you cannot tell me otherwise. We need to send him to rehabilitation center for monsters.
Also I am fond of theory that Grim will snap out of it, but will not remember what he did to us.
Ignihide preview: Ortho sus :D.
I am interested over why Idia said: "I will not go anywhere anyway", because it is sounding more of I cannot go anywhere vs I don't want to go anywhere.
Rook
Yes he gets whole section because the size of the backlash is shocking. I will play a little of devil's advocate by stating that the backlash wasn't completely unwarranted, let me explain. The major reason for this backlash, based on my opinion, because we were more connected to the NRC team rather than RSA. Also I would like to emphasize towards the fact, that from technical point, RSA would lose to NRC, which is why RSA's win is hitting hard on my poor kokoro. This was a battle of appeal rather than a skill battle, which makes this whole thing more of opinion based full of biases in the audience. The whole segment about Vil don't feel sad, feel confident instead is understanding but dumb. Yes Vil needs to be confident in his abilities and not checking up on Mira, but he was,no? When he rejected Epel's suggestion, Vil was confident that he will be able to handle being in the center.
HOWEVER
I agree with Rook by saying that Vil became paranoid during last couple of weeks. I will agree with Rook who finds friendly and warm atmosphere, that was created by Neige, more beautiful than Vil's performance. You need to remember that whole voting segment is opinion based and Rook has a right to say loud and clear what his opinion is, even if it is goes against his group. He is allowed to show support to Neige, if that what he feels and shouldn't get shunned by it whatsoever. At this point, it feels like defending kink from kink shaming. Plus, Vil wants people to be beautiful and have no fear in expressing themselves. I don't know if you read Epel's SSR story, but throughout it Vil wasn't pleased, when he gave Epel instruction to design Magic Wheel and Epel pampered to Vil's interest in design instead of expressing his ideas in it. Vil hates when people pamper to him, remember Azul at the beginning of the chapter 5? He commends when people express themselves and show their opinions, because that is just one part of being beautiful, even so Vil might not agree with their choices or opinions. This is why it is kinda unreasonable to leave fandom, only because Rook expressed what he liked, as always by the way.
Something to note of, I don't say you cannot hate Rook, yes you can BECAUSE IT IS YOUR OPINION AND YOU ARE ALLOWED TO EXPRESS IT, DEAL WITH IT. Also you can leave the fandom if you feel like Rook's choice is a nail in the coffin, the last straw etc. AGAIN, your opinion do what you want to do.
⭐ ALSO ⭐
Is it true that people are sending death threats to Rook's VA? If it is yes.....then what even is this?
Hello Mr. Itokawa
I am very angry, that you gave a voice to a character that I am hating on, because he doesn't express me and his ideas and opinion goes against mine. Also his design is terrible. Him being fictional character just makes me angrier even more, because I cannot send death threats directly to him. I know that you probably have little to nothing in common and I am very disappointed, that your job is to voice this character. I hope you will die because of it.
SINCERELY
Rook's Hunt Hater#000001
(Yes, I stepped there with Rook's membership #000002)
Guys, sending death threats to the VA because you hate a character is stupid, detrimental to the VA WHO DID NOTHING WRONG, and shouldn't be encouraged in this fandom.
Now to the more lighter theme, that you don't need to read, but I added because why not, of
OPINIONS THAT I HAVE ABOUT CHAPTER FIVE A.K.A. SIMP RUMBLINGS.
JAMIL'S VOICE IS FIRE AND RAP SEGMENT WAS A PLEASENT SURPRISE.
KALIM BECOMING MATURE BABY.
VIL IS A BEAUTY QUEEN WITH HEALTH STANDARDS, THAT I STAN.
EPEL AND DEUCE RELATIONSHIP IS FRIENDSHIP GOALS, HOPEFULLY THEY WILL PROGRESS MORE WITH THAT IN THE FUTURE.
ROOK CHANGE FROM CLOSET SIMP TO OPEN SIMP IS WARMING MY HEART.
ACE SINGING YAHOO IS ME, WHEN PEOPLE ASK ME TO SING.
I LEGIT CRIED WITH EPEL AND KALIM, WHEN THEY ANNOUNCED THE WINNER.
OCTAVINELLE SEGMENT IS A BIG YES FOR ME AND MY SIMP LIFE.
BOARD GAME CLUB ENERGY IN IGNIHIDE CHAPTER, PLEASE.
AZUL YOU WILL COME TO ME IN YOUR BIRTHDAY SUIT, I WILL MAKE SURE OF IT.
At the end, chapter 5 is crazy, don't send death threats, Azul come to simp mama.

screaming about chapter 5 but more coherently this time
This is gonna cover 1. the recent update’s events in comparison to my previous theories & expectations, 2. the winner of the VDC and Vil’s character development 3. Kalim & Jamil’s character development, and 4. the main story moving forward
Spoilers for everything up to 5-67. Word count: 2117
So, in my “Jamil is Snow White” theory post, I used the events of the original Snow White to try and guess how TWST chapter 5 would correlate to it and what characters would fill what roles (Snow White, huntsman, prince, etc.) in the story.
Originally, I kind of assumed the beginning of chapter 5 would line up to either the beginning of the movie or halfway through when the Queen is already hatching her plan to get Snow White with the poison apple. However, it seems like the movie events have actually been compacted into 5-57 to 5-67.
After the NRC rehearsal, Vil becomes the most beautiful, corresponding to the beginning of the movie when the Queen is still the most beautiful. Then, Neige, out of his natural cuteness rather than hard work and practice like Vil, usurps him, representing the point Snow White becomes the fairest in the land. The next part with the apple juice and Rook coming to the rescue is a mix of the next part of the movie, when the huntsman tells Snow White to run, and the part of the movie with the poison apple. Then, the MC and the rest of the dance team kind of act like the dwarves by fighting the Queen/Vil. However, other than that, everyone follows their corresponding role: Neige is Snow White and Rook is the huntsman.
I think the story as it has played out makes sense. I was initially startled by Vil suddenly going murder mode, but. To work so hard on this song and choreography and training up your team, only to have the media love your lifetime rival who’s only brought an arrange of a kid’s song with clumsy singing and dancing to the table, potentially crushing your plan for victory here... I understand Vil’s feelings here and the sudden, desperate decision to curse Neige.
Rook’s actions after that don’t seem too out of line with what we know about his personality and his unconventional beliefs/actions regarding beauty and Vil’s beauty. Seriously though, wtf please don’t just drink poison. Anyway, I really enjoyed Kalim coming in then. The way he noticed Vil’s face being like Jamil’s before his overblot? The part when he tried to remind Vil that no one drank the juice so Vil hasn’t hurt anyone yet? Good stuff right there.
However, the way things played out also disappointed me somewhat. Though we had a Kalim & Jamil interaction, we still haven’t had a good resolution to their character/relationship development, so hopefully that’s in the final part of chapter 5. Furthermore, though Kalim did slap the apple juice away, I really felt like he and Jamil would have had more involvement with poison/curses in this part considering all the stuff in this chapter about Kalim being poisoned in the past.
There’s also the fact that all Jamil did was evacuate the area, it was Kalim and Rook who were around when Vil overblotted. The pattern of the previous overblot causing the next has kind of been broken. It could mean that the pattern was actually the dorm leader causes the next overblot?? Anyway, I’m hoping that Jamil will have his time in the spotlight in the next part.
-----
So that kind of brings me to the future. First off, who will win the VDC? Personally, I think that it will be NRC. With everyone so enthusiastically proclaiming in 5-67 that they’re going to win the championship, it would feel off for them to fail. From things that Vil has said this chapter, like in 5-37 when he admonishes Deuce that effort isn’t enough to succeed, it seems like the bad route/worst case scenario of Vil’s outlook is to lose hope that his efforts will ever give him success or a happy end. Therefore, the good route would be for him to keep hope, to keep the belief that he can get his happy end, and I think winning the VDC would be the thing that would support this belief. I do not think he would learn much from losing; if he has already lost and got relegated to the role of villain so many times before, one more time would not mean much to him.
Other people have said that Vil also needs to learn to chill and stop holding people to such high standards, which is something I agree with. Though Epel’s beliefs on masculinity and power were pretty harmful, Vil’s methods of trying to correct those beliefs were also harmful. Vil’s treatment of Epel at the end of Epel’s ceremony robes story seriously left a bad taste in my mouth. The thing is, something or someone would need to prompt a change in Vil’s beliefs for a change to occur. After Deuce and Epel’s  outing, they seem to be pretty chill with Vil, so there aren’t any conflicts in the group. I can’t think of anyone in the team other than Kalim and maybe Ace who would have a strong enough opinion on not pushing yourself too hard that they would try and give that opinion to Vil, and Kalim’s already had a big interaction with Vil in 5-62.
So, I feel like any further Vil character development this chapter would come from an interaction with Neige. Going back to the debate of who will win VDC, we know that Vil resents Neige for always being the hero. If Neige won yet again, would Vil take what he says to heart? However, if Vil won, that would be a new situation. I think that the first things he hears from a Neige that has finally lost would be impactful to him.
I’m not sure though of all this though because of this line in 5-66:
Tumblr media
Vil’s saying that throwing a tantrum and taking it out on other people was awful of him. Though it obviously refers to his attempts to murder before and during his overblot, it could also point to an overall shift in mindset regarding how he treats others. His attempts to mold Epel into a poison apple, for example, stemmed from his own ambitions and frustration at Neige, which you could interpret as a sort of tantrum that he then took out on Epel. Vil may have already learned to relax on pushing his high standards on others.
Regardless of if that’s true or not, I personally think that Vil and Neige still have a lot that they could learn from each other, assuming my perception of Neige as being innocent rather than a white lotus is correct. Vil’s team’s performance had a lot of cohesion and rehearsal put into it, but it was very competitive focused. On the other hand, Neige and the dwarves obviously had a lot of fun with their performance. However, it was clumsy and they were ill prepared. Therefore, Vil could teach Neige more discipline and planning while Neige could teach Vil about how to not lose sight of finding joy in your work.
-----
As I have already said, I’m hoping for more Kalim & Jamil stuff in the final part of chapter 5. I originally theorized that something would happen to one of them, probably Kalim, and that would lead to some sort of reveal about their feelings and the chapter would end with them clearly on the trajectory to repair their relationship and really become friends.
Since nothing happened yet and neither got poisoned/cursed, I think then that the event that sparks the finale of their character development would probably relate directly to the VDC. First off for our possibilities, we have the two’s families watching as Jamil takes the spotlight as a main vocal while Kalim is in the back. Given what we know, I don’t think Kalim’s family would be too happy about that. The conflict from that definitely seems like it could result not only in some sort of understanding between Kalim and Jamil, but also maybe even a change in Jamil or his family’s status. For a less dramatic possibility, we also know from 5-47 that Jamil’s sister will be coming to watch. If she makes an appearance, perhaps she will have some unexpected insight to say that would lead to a discussion & development between Jamil and Kalim.
Finally, my Jamil becomes the most beautiful theory might still be partially true, though idk if that’s just me not wanting to give up on it cause of how funny it would be. Basically, the theory was that, after the VDC performances, the internet/media become super interested in Jamil due to how talented and handsome he is. I originally thought that could serve as a factor for Vil overblot, but now I think it could prompt some discussion & development between Jamil and Kalim due to it serving as a clear example of Jamil finally showing his true ability and by how much Jamil was letting Kalim win. Furthermore, Vil might be affected by an event like that. Though the overblot’s already happened, perhaps something happening with Jamil specifically would lead to something happening between him and Vil, fulfilling the pattern of the previous overblot doing stuff with the next. I’m out of ideas for the Scarabia boys, so let’s continue.
-----
Honestly, I don’t think anything will happen with Idia and Ortho outside of a quick teaser at the very end of the chapter. Considering that we still have to cover all the stuff with the VDC performance and its results and the aftermath of the results, Idia’s presentation thingy might not even happen until chapter 6.  ?
Idk, rn I’m more concerned about the overarching plot with Mickey Mouse than I am about chapter 6 Ignihyde shenanigans. So, we had a little flash of the Queen/Hag during the day, and also we finally discovered that Malleus is Malleus. So things are picking up a bit. I’m not sure if something unexpectedly big this chapter will happen though. I’ve seen people saying that the boss was surprisingly easy so there might be another big battle coming up. I don’t actually play the game so I don’t know anything about that, is it intentional or is it just that the chapter took so long to update that y’all had tons of time to beef up your boys? For me, it did feel like the Vil overblot was the climax of the chapter. With all the other stuff like the VDC results and the Scarabia boys’ character development, I don’t know if there’s any more room. There could be some big new info with Mickey Mouse or Grim’s bad eating habit, but I can’t picture something happening that would warrant another boss battle.
I do have some thoughts on Mickey Mouse, but I think I’ll save my memey ones for another post and wait for the end of chapter 5 before getting my serious thoughts together. Anyway, now a little talk on chapter 6. So, we have 4 options: chapter 6 will be something regarding Idia’s presentation, something regarding Deuce borrowing the magical wheel, something combining those two plot points, or something else entirely.
Well, for something combining those two, Riddle was the one wanting Idia to go do the presentation in person, right? So, Idia probably doesn’t like Riddle that much. Maybe he wants to make some sort of plan to get back at Riddle. What can he use?
Uh I just looked back at 5-39 to figure out what exactly is up and one translation says Deuce forcefully borrowed the magical wheel and another says he borrowed it as a huge favor??? The original says 無理言って借りてきた, deepL translates it as forcibly borrowed, 無理を言って means asking for something unreasonable. What exactly are the circumstances here?
Okay whatever, look, Deuce is in some sort of debt to Ignihyde. Idia could use him since he and Riddle are in the same dorm. Idk my train of thought got wrecked by the translation confusion.
But anyway so we know Deuce is probably gonna be Meg. I’ve never watched Hercules and I don’t know anything about it aside from what I’ve just read on wikipedia. The summary there says that Hercules kills a bunch of monsters and becomes famous then Hades holds Meg hostage in exchange for Hercule’s powers and Hercules accepts the trade but then “Hades reveals that Meg was working for Hades all along” ??? And then in the end though “ Hercules chooses to remain on Earth with Meg”. So what happens, is Meg good or what? Alright it might be better to at least wait for whatever sneak peek of chapter 6 we get at the end of chapter 5 before speculating. Let’s end this here before it gets any longer.

Catch (VilXMC Fic)
(Cross-posted from AO3)
A short drabble in which Ann Hawthorne, my TWST MC, gets to meet Vil Schoenheit and ends up participating as support in the VDC, on the promise of the prize madols for Ramshackle Dorm. Though she shortly learns that there has to be a catch for this act of ‘kindness’.
Thanks to polyphenols@AO3 for beta-reading this!
-
Vil Schoenheit was blinding, Ann Hawthorne would be the first to attest. The man knew how to leave an impression, by blinding them with his beauty and being equally haughty as he called them potatoes, chiding them for supposedly distracting Epel and then ripping Epel to shreds for who knows what. Whatever it was, it wasn’t a reason which would justify his attitude.
“We shouldn’t fight, but you shouldn’t abuse your position just because you are a dorm leader either, Schoenheit-senpai.”
Of course, she wouldn’t stop herself from saying that, but perhaps she should have, seeing that just fueled Grim and Ace to really beat him up. And the result was all of her friends who rose to the challenge, fallen on the ground.
Ann didn’t know which was more impressive, the short time with which he made quick work of her friends, or the fact that he looked infuriatingly graceful as he did so. She wasn’t going to say that aloud, though.
-
In theory, Crowley’s idea seemed sound. Everyone living in Ramshackle Dorm preparing for the Vocal & Dance Championship did seem like a way for everyone to get to know each other. However, it was Crowley who mentioned it, so she suspected that part of the reason was so that she would do her thing, that was being an underpaid supervisor again. After all, Grim and she had been accidentally in charge of fixing the supposedly extremely rare Overblotting cases. Though a simple dancing contest didn’t seem like enough of a reason to Overblot, perhaps there was something else.
“I absolutely refuse,” Grim quickly replied, and she let out a sigh.
“At least listen to them,” she retorted, but the cat had already made up his mind.
“If this team wins, I’ll donate mine and Rook’s part of the prize money to Ramshackle Dorm.”
Vil’s words made Ann arch an eyebrow. She didn’t know exactly how much it was but, to simply give it away for a free lodging…
“But why?”
Especially in Night Raven College, the place where everyone barely lifed a finger unless it benefited them.
“I don’t have interest in a prize like that.”
There had to be a catch to all of this.
“Okay, I’ll offer you the dorm.”
She would have to figure it out later, though.
-
“Everyone in the venue determines who wins the VDC. The audience, performers and staff pick who they deem the most suited to win,” Vil explained, earning some surprised reactions.
“But if the performers get to vote, won’t they just pick themselves? Everyone would think they should be the winner,” Kalim wondered with a shrug.
“There are times when you can’t simply vote for yourself. When you see a performance and realize ‘I can’t beat them’. If it happens, lying to yourself would be pathetic,” Vil said. “That’s why I want to give my all to be able to vote for myself proudly.”
Ann froze as she turned to him. Vil spoke with such a conviction, an unyielding will in every word that made her heart tremble. Determination, passion, conviction and strength. Pride in his abilities, giving himself completely to this goal. She was aware he was very attractive, but in that moment, she couldn’t lift her eyes off him. Was he always like this?
She thought of the supposedly generous money gift in case they won.
Yes, he was.
Didn’t he mention he was taking a walk when he beat the lights out of her friends?
Come to think about it, didn’t he refuse to wish for anything when they were collecting wishes for the Stargazer ceremony? Something about him granting his own wish?
“Then, manager, can you play the song through the audio player?” His voiced snapped her out of her trance.
“Huh?” Ann blinked, startled for a moment. “You mean me?”
Vil looked at her, derisively. “Who else? The Headmaster requested you to be our support. If you want the prize money, you’ll have to earn it.”
Achieve your dream with your hard work, huh.
“…Understood.”
As the music blasted from the speakers, resting her head on her hand, she turned to the dancing young men. Heart beating fast and cheeks tinted pink, she smiled softly in realization as she gazed at him for as long as he danced in the ballroom.
This catch was fine.
