Look at me, not being on time for my April Immersion Overview as is the usual. (・w・;

First, little blog updates to get out of the way:

I reached 100 followers! Got an influx of people checking out my 1 year update post, and got plenty of nice compliments on my data collection.

For those of you wondering just why I keep up with so much data, it's mostly because it can get really hard to notice how much you're improving in a language especially with something like immersion learning that for people who don't get it feels like a waste of time or a time sink.

Graphs showing consistency, improvement in reading speed, increasing vocabulary counts, and generally just seeing numbers grow turns language learning more fun and motivating for me, and if as a bonus, it encourages someone to try immersion learning then that would be cool!

With that said, whether you're here as a fellow language learner, graphs enthusiast (笑), or just want some Japanese media recommendations, ようこそ!

Also, made a tiny DP change - it’s チト from 少女週末旅行. Pretty sure it’s the first manga series I ever finished in Japanese (not the first one I started since ちはやふる is still ongoing), and I always felt a bit of a ☆connection☆ with her - between her book-loving personality and being a no-nonsense kind of person, there was no way for me not to enjoy her character. Great beginner anime/manga if you’re not into most beginner recommendations.

April has been a pretty good immersion month, as I was able to dip my toes in a variety of media. A bit competitive, too! The club I joined has been pulling all the stops to get to the Top 20 Immersion Leaderboard in it’s first month. I was able to snag the 9th spot among a bunch of people of different comprehension levels (the majority being N1+ since they’re able to comprehend much more and in turn stand longer immersion hours). Lots of tiny complaints though of potential “whitenoising” content (”listening” and “reading” but not comprehending very well just to get a large number to post), but really what can you do? People lie all the time on the internet. Besides, it’s internet points that doesn’t do anything beyond being a little shiny I guess.

Enough about that, let’s get into the nitty-gritty details you came here for!

ANIME

フルーツバスケット

Might need to rewatch this one. Felt like I didn’t connect with the characters the way the rest of its fandom has. I’m kinda sad about it, since I normally love Slice of Life and Fantasy, and I know this is one of my friend’s diehard shows.

ラブライブ! School Idol Project S2

A filler anime to watch tbh. Nice and easy enough to follow for beginners. Pretty good songs. With regards to it being a show about music and moe, I still 100% prefer K-On! if I’m going to be honest, but for a show about non-toxic idols, it’s good!

魔法少女まどか☆マギカ

First read this as English translated manga when I was 13 or something. Mistakes were made. Let’s all just agree to throw キュウベえ into a pit of fire and never talk about it again. Great ending and a show that really reworked the magical girl genre. But seriously, I was traumatized by マミ’s death then and now, help.

四月は君の嘘

Already knew what was going to happen even before watching this so I didn’t ugly cry like I was expecting. Still got that awful sinking feeling though. 10/10 would recommend for a good cry. Also, I’m planning to read the manga, might enjoy that more, because I’ve always liked it more than anime actually. *shocked pikachu face*

ホリミヤ

Watched before I even finished the manga which felt like a mistake at first until I realized that it perfectly stops where I stopped reading. Nice and comfy anime, the kind I would have loved as a teen. Fun animation too, making parts very dramatic even though it wasn’t really that deep of an issue even in the manga. Just teens feeling feelings. Still salty that we lose bad boy styled 宮村, but I get why it had to happen.

AUDIOBOOKS

氷菓

Second re-listen. I understand it fine, but it’s very easy to drift off when you can’t catch all the words so I had to replay often. Will have to mine more from the anime/book.

君の名は

I mined from the anime, and was really pleased to be able to follow all 6 hours of this audiobook perfectly fine. Will need to read the book, because I realized just how seamless reading it would be after listening to it with hardly any issue.

Still trudging on with this one. It’s not a bad story, it’s pretty well written actually, I just made the mistake of watching both the anime and live adaptation first, so I know exactly what’s going to happen and it’s killing my motivation to keep reading. I guess reading the book first before watching the movie still applies in any language with me. Really need to 頑張れ and finish so I can move on.

三日間の幸福

Started reading towards the end of the month, mostly because I realized that every chapter is only 5000-15000 characters long, and I was able to read up to 40k in a day with Island most days. Only two chapters read so far though because I got distracted by manga, but it’s shaping up to be a really good plot and potentially a really sad one, too, so I’m interested.

DRAMA

花ざかりの君たちへイケメンパラダイス

Heard this was a classic so I gave it a try. Loved 生田斗真’s character in this one the most especially all his internal dialogue acted out. Also, 小栗旬 in anything is bound to be a good watch. Simple and fun watch. They dragged the ending so much though lmao

ごくせん

Look, I see 松本潤, I click. Definitely the kind of show you should watch for some great life advice. Planning to watch the 2nd and 3rd seasons even if there is a terrible lack of 松本潤, because I love my strong female protagonists, and man, ヤンクミ is such a great character. Need to read the manga, too, if I can find it.

極主夫道

Oof, this was kind of hard. The yakuza talk was throwing me off, but the rest of it was enjoyable. Not really plot heavy as I thought it was going to be. The comedy side of it was fun and predictable after the first few episodes. Overall, pretty good slice of life, family story with a twist.

MANGA

Read a bunch of manga this month, mostly because I am struggling to find the next vn to read.

おやすみプンプン

Read a couple of volumes (6-7). This manga is so good, but it’s so depressing I need to stop to take a breather every once in a while. Please don’t leave any spoilers. The club has been reacting to me reading this, and it has mostly been a lot of crying emotes. It’s both been enjoyable to see and really worrying. 笑

チェンソーマン

Club recommendation. Only read the 1st volume so far. I really need to get into more 少年 anime/manga. That’s currently my 苦手 genre which is awful because literally all the top anime/manga is 少年 help. I just can’t enjoy it much still even though it’s comprehensible to me.

ちはやふる中学生編

Read Vol. 1, chill read to me at this point after reading 45 volumes of the regular manga. Look, it’s my favorite 幼馴染 manga in baby format, of course I’m going to read this! 太一 has been a flake way before season 3 confirmed. Don’t come at me たいちはや stans bc I also like his character.

約束のネバーランド

Volume 7. I’m taking my sweet time with this one, because I heard the anime for season 2 sucked, so I’m avoiding it like the plague. This is 少年 how am I enjoying this and not everything else what.

ヲタクに恋は難しい

Enjoyed the anime hated the movie why did they make it a musical that sucked (ps i normally love musicals hated this one)

The オタク jargon is kinda hard to read suprisingly but I do enjoy this ship very much. It’s a lighthearted take to otaku culture which is great because seriously it’s scary out there.

ツバサ -RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE-

It’s my childhood ship, obviously I will read this again (read in English several years ago). Still as plot twisty as I remember it being (now at a bonus hard level reading it in Japanese 笑). Really enjoyed reading this one (I finished it this May).

I’m starting to really dislike furigana in manga. It was a great help as a beginner, but now it’s like training wheels that you can’t take off. I feel like the gains I’m getting from manga is much lower than it was when I first started which makes me both proud of how far I’ve come, but also sad because I love manga. Sad that I might have to start choose VNs over it, because it’s not going to challenge me as much going forward. I mean it didn’t stop me from reading a lot of it this month, but you get the picture.

ファタモルガーナの館

Picked up this VN and finished two doors (15 hours) before stopping. On the fence about it, because it has been kind of predictable so far, and I don’t particularly enjoy the horror genre. That said, this is more psychological than anything, so it’s probably not that that’s putting me off. The language is not exactly difficult, too - maybe some oddly specific words because it is after all historical fiction (which is one of my favorite genres, btw), and 敬語 is definitely interesting to read for once after encountering so many お嬢様 characters in anime/drama so far.

I think maybe it’s the conversations that are kind of dull - dots (silence) every few clicks that keeps breaking the flow of reading. Probably judging it really harshly too early, because it’s rated so high everywhere, and I just have high expectations. Definitely not dropping it yet though, just taking a break and testing a couple of other VNs before I settle with whatever I end up choosing. It is, after all, going to be another 50+ hour read, and I just don’t want to not enjoy the process, because having fun with the process is a huge part of immersion learning.

Alright so, here’s how things are gonna work.

First off, welcome to this side blog. Since it won’t be jolly fun fandom content and will be a little more personal I decided to separate my health and writing journey from my fandom stuff, although all my fandom content will still be linked on my main blog here.

(I write Izuocha/bnha content which isn’t super popular so if you’re not here for that then yeah, I don’t blame you. But if you are I have a link to our discord and community content pinned so def check it out if you’re interested.)

Secondly, you guys will hear details about stuff relating to my health like what kinds of things affect my disorder based on the tests some doctors are ordering, how I’m trying to improve my diet and activity, and routines and goals I’m attempting for myself. I am underweight, and that’s something I’m going to be talking a bit about, so if that’s triggering following this blog might not be the best thing for you. Details under the cut.

So, what kind of disorder do I have and why did I decide to make a health journey blog? My disorder is called idiopathic hypersomnia. Basically what that means is that when my disorder is acting up (based on factors like stress especially or my generalized anxiety rearing its ugly head) I have the capacity to sleep. And sleep and sleep and sleep and sleep. My longest recorded uninterrupted “sleep-attack” was 26 hours long and ever since I caught Covid in January, my body had been slowly growing weaker to the point I was starting to develop atrophy. I’ve had this ten years and my neurologist suspects inactive cells from mononucleosis I caught at 14 was the cause, because other IH patients have linked their sleeping problems to a case of mono or have had it at some point in their lives.

This disease stole many years and many things I’ve looked forward to from me. I lost friends and experiences and failed so many college classes I had to drop out.

I’ve decided I’m taking them back.

It’s not going to be easy. Just as it took ten years to convince myself that my tiredness was something I chose to give into, it took several extra years and many fights with my family to convince them that I had a real actual neurological disorder and that I need help sometimes. My parents and grandmother finally understand that I have to finish college and find a very special boss willing to work around my erratic progress on projects, but the outsiders they married are not as convinced. My grandmother’s husband kicked me out of their house because he wants to be the center of attention and doesn’t like that some days I’m so weak that I needed my grandmother’s help, and my father’s wife thinks I’m a lazy and ungrateful leech who “gets anxiety just being around” me. Both told my father I’ll never be happy so why even bother with me, but my dad is actually striving to understand his own recently-diagnosed PTSD so while we still butt heads he’s understanding that I have to take things day by day because every tiny circumstance affects my disorder.

Now, why did I decide to air all this out? Well, being open about my disorder and how it affects me has helped at least two people that I know of find out that the tiredness they experience isn’t the typical “American work force exhaustion” they were trained to believe is normal. So if I can help even one more, I’ll gladly talk about what this entails and how I deal with it day to day. Another reason is that I’m also one of those big advocates who believes talking candidly about mental health destigmatizes it and sharing ideas can help us grow as people and maybe make it a little easier to deal with.

So now that you know a little bit about me and my disorder, here are my big goals for the next three months provided my university takes pity on me and actually lets me go back.

First up: create routines to train my body to get used to living a full day fully awake. This includes waking up at the same time and going to sleep at the same time. It means getting dressed and going out and doing things, even little things— which I’ll get to in a sec.

Second: I write. I have a novel in limbo and I write fanfics. Writing is a big part of who I am and I’ve written one thing this year, which for a whole six-month stretch is upsetting and disappointing. Today is my reset. In the next 569 days I want to to finish the six stories I have in limbo (except the larger one) and finally reach my goal of posting 200k words in a single year. I wont be hard on myself if I can’t accomplish this because honestly finishing anything in the chaos of my life is going to be a miracle but. There ya go.

Third: go back to freakin college. I don’t care what it takes. Sit down with every official, every lawyer, and every professor it takes to get me back enrolled in classes in the fall.

Fourth: I have several smaller things I have to do, short term goals, stuff like that. I’m gonna create a to do list each day of small tasks I want to get done and while some of these things will be part of my daily routine I am throwing in like one or two things a day that just need to be done. My writing goal will change daily and I’ll keep y’all updated on that with every post I make.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Dani! That’s so much!! Well, a few months ago I remembered hey!! I basically have a computer in my hand, why make it hard on myself. So I downloaded certain apps to help me out. This isn’t me saying “hey go subscribe to these apps because I said so” it’s just that through a lot of trial and error I’ve come to find that these certain apps work for me and I’ve yet to come across one that has the functionality of everything I need.

Tiimo — so this is an app I found developed by people with autism for people with autism to help them develop good habits and routines. It has preset daily schedules (things like morning routines or nightly routines or work routines) and an internal alarm to let you know when to move on to the next task. I myself have extremely low-level aspergers (to the point where my doctor won’t give me an official diagnosis because I didn’t want people think that *it’s* the reason I have issues with school), so moving from task to task can be difficult sometimes and I also deal with getting distracted. This widget also appears on my home screen so I know what I have to do at a glance. You can program in weekly and daily tasks to fully customize your schedule, which is fantastic for someone like me who wants to for example rotate chores. This is hopefully going to help me get my body in the habit of adjusting to routines and transitioning from one task to another, as well as getting important things done responsibly.

Promptly Journals — I’ve been told for a while that journaling is helpful mentally to kind of recenter yourself, so a bit ago I downloaded several journal apps to add to my morning routine. Now some will prefer more creatively free journals, but I prefer this one that gives me small prompts I can do in a short amount of time that just allows me to get my thoughts down. I can even add pictures at the bottom that go with the theme! I’m scared I’ll run out of prompts eventually lol but until then this app works very well for my needs.

Stretchingexercise — Now idk if it’s from lack of sleep from my disorder, the position I sleep in when I do sleep, all the physical labor I’ve had to do in the past couple weeks, my medicine, or w h a t but I suffer from body aches like no one would believe. I know stretching is supposed to help with that, so I downloaded this app to help me do non-demanding physical activity that wakes me up in the mornings and helps relieve pain so I don’t keep having to take pain relievers. This one has different plans for things like muscle tension, back pain, warm ups— and it also gives you rudimentary weight updates (I’m underweight lololol so we’re looking to fix that) or plan updates. It’s worked really well for me so far and gives you animations and descriptions of the workouts (some taken from yoga) as well as timed breaks and a narrated guide. It’s been pretty helpful in temporary relief and if nothing else gets my blood flowing in the mornings.

Widgetsmith Step counter — in addition to the stretching thing one thing my doctor and I discussed that helps with the sedentary lifestyle is simply walking. I’ve needed so bad to relieve my stamina and reverse the atrophy, and walks have been stellar for that. Now I live in the New Orleans area so humidity and heat force me to go at the crack of Dawn, but honestly my weenie dachshund Charlie really enjoys our time out so he goes with me! The CDC recommends 10,000 steps a day which seems like a lot and it is if you don’t get out much. But this gives me an excuse to get dressed and do the hygienic thing and help Charlie be healthy too, as well as give me time for brainstorming because we walk in a truly beautiful area. I’m sure everyone installed widgetsmith with the last iOS update (Apple users anyway) and while at first the step counter was just interesting I’ve since come to rely on it! We do our 5000 in the morning, which of course is half, and I find that other things I do throughout the day typically drive the counter higher. Anything leftover can easily be accomplished by an evening walk in our neighborhood. Now the caveat is that I have to remote have my phone in my pocket because I don’t own a watch or anything fancy lol, but honestly I need to keep it on me anyway so that serves as a good reminder.

Todoist — this one is my FAVORITE. Ever since I’ve decided that I have trouble keeping track of things I need to do and small stuff I need to keep in mind and appointments, etc, I decided to find a list app. This is the one I found that absolutely helps me for everything from my list of room supplies I need to buy, to my reading list, to general tasks I have coming up I need to complete. And its widget functionality keeps it right on my Home Screen! More organized individuals can just use tiimo, but I’m definitely not one of those individuals so this app is sorely needed and appreciated.

And of course, I know building habits the first few weeks is HARD. So for days my body doesn’t respond to my alarms, I have a checklist of the key things I have to do to keep my life as functional as possible.

So that’s that on that. I’m going to try to keep writing updates and my daily goals in a post in the morning, and reblog what I accomplished in the evening. It’s gonna be tough. But I’m thinking if I can start small I’ll be able to build my stamina enough to return to college and be successful when I do. I hope that anyone watching this journey draws some kind of meaning or inspiration from it. And you guys can even follow along if y’all want! Especially for writers or people trying to get healthier. I can’t promise what works for me will work for you (and honestly I expect things to change especially if I get accepted into college again) but hey, I figure it’s worth a shot.

I hope you guys enjoy watching this journey, if nothing else I hope it’s entertaining. And maybe it’ll be successful. I do know that I’m just gonna try for it, and hope it works out.

Lie about giving me a raise? Say goodbye to your income.

Sorry that its so long! Please have patience. There is a reason why I wrote it all out like this. I wanted my thought process to be understood through the story. I doubt anything like this will happen again in my life and I wanted to share it with all of you :)

(TL;DR at the bottom)

Background:

I work as a sub-contractor for an actually licensed contractor for a reality company. Basically, the realty company buys houses, and the contractor tells us to go to the new address, and my coworkers and I flip the house and get it ready to be rented out. When I first started a job, it was a difficult transition considering I was a plumber previously but, eventually I became a valuable asset to Contractor’s company thus the realty company as well. The contractor was infamous for being a bit of an ass when it came to actual business and money. He was constantly yelling and screaming at the plumber, the painters, etc. about prices and how it took them too long and he wasn’t paying that much. Which I would understand if the yelling was actually warranted. When it became tax season, he gave everyone else a 1099 and then said he “lost” mine and got pissed off every time I asked about it. (If someone knows what I can do about that please let me know.)

This guy makes easily 2 million a year (so he says) so I don’t really think $100 off the price matters that much. Not enough to get into a screaming match and ruin relationships with the other sub-contractors. I have been working for him for about a year now at 16/hr. Not too bad for my area but, I make him a lot more a day than the $160 I make every 10-hour work day.

One day I asked him for a raise, which he laughs and shuts me down immediately. After that, I decide to work harder, get houses done faster, and show him that I deserve a raise. A few months later, I decide to ask for a raise again but not as directly. “How could I be more useful to the company? So, I can increase my productivity, and both of us can make more money?” He said, “Get a van and a trailer and then we can talk about more money,” in his normal gruff tone that says, “shut up and get back to work”. After that day, I worked side jobs here and there. Worked a lot later that I usually would, and even all throughout the weekend. Saving up as much money as possible. I sometimes wouldn’t eat some days just to save that little bit of money.

He loved how much I was getting done and I could practically see the dollar signs in his eyes when I told him all that I got done every day. Finally, the day came where I saved up just enough money to buy my Dad’s old ford van. Then not long after, I bought a little piece of crap 5x10 trailer that I had to fix up. The following Monday I pull up with the bright white gas guzzler and the fixed-up trailer following behind. I walked up to him smiling ear to ear about my accomplishment, hoping he would be proud or at least happy about all that I have done. I tell him to look at my new toys and all he says is “cool,” and got in his truck and left. “Okay, maybe he’s just busy,” I thought as I processed his extremely underwhelming response.

At the end of the day, I finally have a moment with him to discuss my raise. “So! I have the van, and the trailer. I have saved up and done everything you said that I needed to do to make more money and be more of an asset to this company.” He narrows his eyes at me, “What are you talking about?” “You said that if I got a van and a trailer that you would pay me more,” I said confused. “I never said any of that shit. You have to actually work if you want anything else from me.”

I was devastated. I have been working my ass off while he sat on his ass and watched. I followed every instruction, completed in the very least two houses a week (which he makes about $5000~ per house or so he says) and he acts like I do nothing for the company. I swallowed my pride and let out a quick, “Yes sir,” and left his office.

I was finally tired of dealing with Contractor. Tired and defeated, I decided it was time to start looking for other jobs that actually had the possibility to move up. Then the company electrician gave me an idea. (I am going to call him Adam for privacy reasons) Adam is a good guy all around. If you needed advice or, just someone to talk to, he was always there for you. I told him about everything that has happened with Contractor and told him I was looking for other jobs.

He simply said,” You’re not supposed to be here to try and make it to the top. You’re here to learn. Learn everything you can and then one day, you’ll be the contractor. A better one than Contractor for sure. Why not look into getting your general contracting license? Its not hard, you just have to work for it. That’s what I did to an extent. I worked for Contractor for years dealing with his bullshit. Until one day I decided to get my electrician’s license. Now, he doesn’t decide what I’m paid. I do. That is, if he wants me to work for him. And if not, then I have other customers to make my living.”

I took his words to heart and came up with a plan.

Revenge:

I did some research on becoming a general contractor in my state (Requirements differ in other states).

Basically, I would need books to learn the material, references, a bank reference, and to pass the test.

The books were pretty expensive. With bills, taking care of my family and a monthly van payment, it seemed impossible for now. Until I found a group following in my area that needed a handyman to do a variety of things. Perfect. Extra money. Soon, my name started blowing up in my small town. I did everything from repairing fences, to installing toilets. I took everything I learned from plumbing and from working for Contractor and used it to build a reputation. References: check.

This is when I decided it was time to open my own business. Again, I did my research and learned all I had to do to open said business. I’ll spare you the details but, it was basically business license, how the get an LLC, Liability insurance, think of a name NOT already taken blah blah blah.

It took a while, but I sent in all that I had and prayed to whatever god is there for me to be invited to take the test. I waited and wait until about three weeks and FINALLY I got a letter inviting me to the next test... it was a three-hour drive and on a Tuesday. Great another speed bump. Have to miss work AND pay $300.

The day of the test came, and I panicked. It was open book but, I eventually ran out of time and didn’t get to finish. I was so disappointed in myself that I basically gave up. I just decided to keep working my job and a little side business. A week later I was holding my son. He is a beautiful blonde-haired blue-eyed reflection of myself. After I managed to get him to sleep, I stared at him and wondered if I would be able to give him a better life than I had. I remember growing up in shitty trailers, being hungry and made fun of at school because I wore clothes from Walmart. Not the best way to grow up but, I had a roof over my head. I always wanted video games that my friends had but never got it. I wanted to go to trampoline parks and water parks. I’ve only been once in my entire life.

That’s about when my resolve renews itself within me. I had to do this. Not only for me but, for him. I saved up all over again and came up with the $300 and requested for a re-take of the test. I took practice tests online, so I was ready. The day came and I BARELY manage to pass. BUT I still pass the test and receive my license! Now time for the fun part.

With all of the time passing, I became pretty close friends with the owner of the reality company. Going to BBQs, stopping to tell him some corny joke I saw on Facebook (he LOVED puns), and doing extra tasks not under Contractor. One day, I came into his office and saw some invoices from Contractor one his desk. I just said,” Wow, that’s how much you’re paying him? Dude, he should at least take it a little bit easy on you being that you have known each other for so long.” He just nodded and said,” You think so?” and he just looked at the papers more. Since then I would say little comments about how much Contractor was being paid and how many houses we could buy with that money. Just planting seeds in his mind that I slowly water until they turn into a beautiful garden of resentment.

Finally, Owner calls me and wants me to come to his house for a beer and to “talk business”. (We’ve done this a few times before. It’s usually about his wife or hit last time he played golf). I pull into his driveway, and he told me to meet him out back. After the usual how-are-yous he tells me that him and Contractor had a bit of an argument and they are “limiting” him from now on. Then, he turned to me, and said,” There is a meeting Friday. I want you there at 9 o’clock.” I hesitate. I wasn’t sure what it could have been. (You know how your parents would ask “Do you have something to tell me?” and as a kid you would go into a panic and think about all the bad shit you did at school? No? Just me? Okay.)

“Sure, I’ll be there.” I manage to say calmly through a scrambled mind. A few beers and stories about fishing trips, I headed home.

That was today. (4/30/19) I was so excited to write this, I started as soon as I got home. The meeting is on Friday. If you want me to, I’ll update after the meeting.

Sorry it was so long. I guess I was excited/scared of what is about to happen. The way I see it, it can go one of two ways.

I could be asked to take Contractors place and have Contractor work for me.

They fought about what I had said about prices, and they came to an agreement that they need to confront me and/or fire me.

So I went to the meeting this morning, and as I came in everyone shook my hand. Some i've seen before and said my "Hi how are you"s to, others I have never met in my life. THIS WAS AN INVESTOR MEETING. Some of these people are worth figures in the nine digits. I was internally freaking out after finding out, but if you've read, you'd know I know ho to keep my cool. After our greetings, we sat down and waited. It wasn't clear who we were waiting on until an hour later Contractor walks in with his usual stained T-shirt and cargo shorts, while I am in a nice dress shirt and tie. (Figured I would look nice for this.)

Everyone made a face and greeted Contractor while we got settled again. Contractor didn't seem to notice me until we all sat back down. I saw him do a double take and, give me a look that said, "What the fuck are you doing here?" I had requested off today so I could only imagine what he was thinking. After introducing the new investors to the old investors, Owner got started saying about how we were going to have an amazing 2019 and an amazing future for the company. (I suppose he was just hyping up the new guys so they would invest more.)

About two hours of production values and budget stuff blah blah, He turned to me and said, "I would just like to take the time to congratulate OP for passing the general contractor's exam and his newly acquired business!" I smiled, and thanked him, then he continued. "As we are growing, we have a demand for new and inspiring people within our company. After hearing about OP's success in both our company and his, I would like to personally ask him a question in front of the whole team." (My heart pounding in my throat as each word sounded slower than the last. I took a side glance at Contractor that is visibly sweating at this point.) "OP, how would you like to our new property manager? You may still have your business, and do your own work. But, we will pay you exclusively to be our personal contractor and help take care of all new and old properties." Everyone turns to me and I take a second to respond.

Just then Contractor stand up and says, "What the fuck? I'm your god damn contractor! I've been your contractor for over a decade! You can't just replace me for some dip shit that doesn't know what he is doing!" Owner smugly looks at Contractor and says," We're not replacing you. You will just answer to him now. All tasks, orders and billing will go through him now. If you would like to still work for us, granted you mind your mouth and tone, you will run anything you do by OP. Contractor looks enraged and he turns to me, "YOU"RE FIRED! You have no business here anymore now LEAVE."

Owner chuckles, and says," You don't have that power anymore. As long as OP agrees to my question." I turn to him and say," Are you sure you can afford me?" I laugh and shake his hand. "Yes. This is all I have ever wanted. All that I have worked for. Now we can get some real work done. (I have to admit something, I've been practicing that response since I was asked to come to this meeting lol.) Contractor stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him and I didn't see him for the rest of the day.

After he left we continued to discuss the goals for this year and its out they bought 60 new houses for me to work on with the investor's money and he just looked at me and said," Can you handle that?" I happily said, "Yes, sir." trying to keep my eyes from watering. All I thought about was my family and how proud they would be of me.

In a little under a year, I received a great license, my own business, and pretty much non-stop work. If there is anything you guys reading can take from this, I hope it will be this: Don't settle in life. Be hungry to better yourself, and be the best person you can be. The only person stopping you is yourself.

Again, I'm sorry that it is so long. When I wrote the first part I have had a few drinks, and when I got home I continued drinking lol. I could condense it but, I'm not going to due to the fact that it was a pure reaction of it all. The puzzle coming together if you will. Thanks for reading!

Synopsis: The five members gather together and give their thoughts about their new album.

Tsurushi Mitsuki: This is an older song I wrote, back in 2017. I made Mahiro sing in a very low register. Mahiro: I like the distortion effect in doubling my voice. Junji: I was surprised by this song, it has a nice balance between quiet and movement. Muku Mitsuki: This is the song where I began using a seven-string guitar. Hiyorin: The balance is very difficult to achieve, but once you get it, it's incredible. Junji: Between quiet and movement... THIS SONG IS DEFINITELY MOVEMENT. Oborodzukiyo Hiyorin: This kind of sounds like the kind of song we would have written in our early days. Takemasa: I think this song is more popular with our male fans since it's kind of R-rated. Mitsuki: I wanted to make a song that was dark and disturbing. Mahiro: I like this song. Junji: Between sun and shadow, this song is shadow. Ibitsu Mitsuki: This is maybe the prettiest song on the album, and a bonus track. It's a song about pain. Hiyori: The bass solo is very significant. Takemasa: After having written some hundred songs together, we've yet to have made a song like this. I'm glad we put it out now. Junji: Between strength and gentleness, this song is gentle. Hansuu Mitsuki: This is a song Takemasa wrote for us. It has a nice balance and it's really fun to play. Hiyori: It's fast and busy. Takemasa: I wrote it mostly on my iPhone. Mahiro: The speed and rhythm of it really makes it a unique song. Junji: This isn't a normal rhythmic pattern for Takemasa. It's all... (sings the pattern). That's it. That's all it is for me. [Then Junji compares it to some manga thing I'm not familiar with]. Tenshou Rinne Mitsuki: This is the kind of song that people who like Kiryu will enjoy. It's a very Kiryu song. We don't use normal phrases for us, though. Hiyori: It's really nice to hear you singing for us, Mitsuki. Mahiro: That was my idea. I thought it would add a nice kind of unique sparkle to it. Junji: This is a fast song. Watashi ha Kairai, Sarugutsuwa no Ningyou Mitsuki: This is a rather slow song for us. Hiyori: I felt like this song was a sort of turning point for us, that this is the song that shows we're no longer kids. Like we grew beards for this song. Mitsuki: I don't understand what on earth you're talking about. Hiyorin: Don't you feel like you finally grew pubic hair? Mitsuki: What? Like in junior high school, weirdo. How old are you, do you still not have hair there? Mahiro: I really like the balance and sound of this song. Basara Mitsuki: This song is called "Basara," AKA Take-punk. Takemasa: WHAT? WHY?? Mitsuki: Every time you submitted a demo of this song, the feeling of it was very uncertain. But the underlying sound was always kind of punk. Hiyorin: Thank you for all the deep feelings held in this song! Mahiro: I like this. Junji: I hate the rhythm. It's the same thing over and over again. Nopperabou Mitsuki: This song was born out of my want to write a song that had this sort of bass rhythm. For you, Hiyorin, it's all bass slaps. Hiyorin: Oh yeah! This is the most difficult song to play on this album! The rhythm is hard, and when I was recording, you kept asking for more and more. Mitsuki: And the lyrics, I really felt like I was able to write something significant and deep... Hiyorin: It is a sufficiently Micchan song. Junji: When you sent it to me, I couldn't even begin to imagine what the chorus would be like. Takemasa: We had to do so much reamping and such, this was also the most expensive song to make. Mahiro: There were just so many levels to making it. But in the end, it was fun. Mitsuki: How about it, Hiyorin? Can you go more? Hiyorin: ..I'm going to have to say for now, I'd like to stay at this level. Gekkabijin Mitsuki: This is the most Japanese-sounding track on the album. It's like Kiryu-pop. Takemasa: I had absolutely no idea where to insert this song in the album. Mitsuki: Maybe we should have made it a bonus track? Mahiro: Sometimes I forget we have songs like this, too. Junji: It's Mitsu-punk. Basara is Take-punk and Gekkabijin is Mitsu-punk. Harushigure Hiyorin: This song really conveys the feeling of now. This is really Takemasa's song. Kairai is Mitsuki's song of growth, and Harushigure is -- Takemasa: HAIR? HAIR? HAIR? Hiyorin: Your beard. Mitsuki: This is the world's beard. Mahiro: From the start, I knew this would be a good song. Junji: Takemasa wrote the music and Mitsuki wrote the lyrics, so it kind of feels like a thing you both peed on together. (Everyone laughs). No, it's a good song. It's good. I just hate it. I only play TAN-TAN-TA OVER AND OVER. Except at the end, I play DO-DO-DO. Then tan-tan-ta. But it sounds nice and sparkly. Jou no Ka Mitsuki: This is THE single Junji: The song that charmed the world. Mitsuki: We used this song in an anime. The concept came from trying to tackle something we couldn't do before. I wanted to do that. Everyone: Thank you. Hiyorin: I didn't cry, but I felt as though I might. It's a moving song. Junji: But then, seeing your name appear on the opening credits as the writer was kind of a blow. This song... between light and dark, this song is light. Mahiro: I really like this song. Kuroyami ni Madou Esoragoto Mitsuki: This song is "Kuroyami ni Madou Esoragoto," AKA the Take-ballad. Junji: This sounds like something he wrote when he was in school. This is back when it was just us in a Take-band. Prince Take hasn't changed a bit. Mitsuki: This song is just so heavy. Takemasa: I thought about all the things I wanted to say, the messages I wanted to get across. But I wasn't the one singing it, so I knew if Mahiro couldn't feel it, this song wouldn't resonate. Mahiro: It was really difficult to sing. Every line felt like a wound. Hiyorin: Usually songs feel like a journey. You hit this place, then return. Then you hit this place and return. This song starts with an intro that I expect to come back to, but you never come back to it.

"Sometimes, when I go buy food, an old lady will say, 'please enjoy this with ketchup.' Sometimes the kids will write their names on their food in ketchup, too. And young couples will write each other's names." "That's sweet," Hiyoin comments. "They even draw a heart around it... the little shitheads," Mitsuki laughs. "GROW UP, MITSUKI!" Synopsis: Mitsuki analyzes what went wrong in the first mentos and cola video and decides to try again. Result: A huge mess explosion. Notable: Mitsuki isn't sure about trying by himself, and wonders if someone very special will hear him call out for help, no matter where they are... he calls out, "HIYOOOORIIIIIIINNN!" and surely enough, Hiyorin sweeps in to save the day. Notable 2: It's rather humanizing to see Mitsuki and Hiyorin cleaning up their own mess.

What can we expect for a 16 year old to pay on a monthly base if he has his OWN insurance (as in not co-insured with the parents). This would be in Texas. Why would an insurance company deny me coverage for not having central air and heating?

We wanted to switch from the local company we had been insuring our house with because their correspondance has always been very rude and they are very difficult to deal with to USAA who we do all of our banking, brokerage, car & boat insurance through and are very courteous and extremely easy to deal with. My wife and I both cannot stand Air Conditioning and would never use Central A/C other than the one or two times a year we would normally turn on our wall unit when it is too hot to bear and the windows and doors cannot be left open. Houses have existed for Milleniums prior to the invention of Central Climate Control and I am sure home insurance existed atleast a few decades before the invention of air conditioning. Why would not having central climate control be a disqualifying factor in getting home insurance coverage? I highly doubt that not having A/C or heat is going to make our house any more likely to be damaged or destroyed in a hurricane, robbed or flooded. Due to an illness/ disability in our family, despite having health insurance, we still owe thousands in medical bills. Those that would not work with us turned them into collection. They now show on our credit report. Despite being insured for both our auto insurance and our home insurance for 20+ year with the same insurance company, we got a notice saying our auto insurance had gone up hundreds of dollars per year based on a credit report they obtained. We have never had an accident, ticket, etc. and the amount automatically comes out of our checking each month. I'm an older full-time college student and my husband works full-time at Walmart. In the past three years, I've been through 4 cancer related surgeries, which were paid for by the breast/cervical cancer Medicaid program. I'm now on my husband's health insurance, which is basically worthless because our income is under $20,000/yr and the policy has a $4500 deductible plus 20% after. I haven't seen my oncologist for over a year because we can't afford the expensive scans, biopsies, and lab work associated with cancer follow-up with a deductible that high. I thought my situation would change in 2014 with Obamacare. I recently learned from the healthcare.gov website calculator that our income is low enough to qualify for expanded Medicaid (which our state decided not to expand), but I don't qualify for the health insurance subsidies I desperately need because the outrageous deductible health insurance from my husband's job covers spouses. How can a couple with an income so low they would qualify for expanded Medicaid be ineligible for subsidies? I am completely devastated over this and I don't know what to do. Not being able to afford cancer follow up care is putting my life in danger. Even if my husband's employer (Walmart) quit covering the spouses of full-time employees, I think that would only apply to new hires because of the grandfather clause. If getting subsidies was based on income alone the way it should be instead of access to employer provided coverage, I would qualify for a zero deductible policy and $3 co-pays with a monthly premium of around $60. You had no idea what kind of “things” he was referring to, but at this point you had known Taehyung long enough to know that his mind doesn’t run like the average person. It goes twice the speed if not more. He’s restless, always ready to do the next thing that pops into his head. He’s selfless, treating everyone with genuine kindness despite rarely getting the same treatment in return. He’s the energy of the sun shining brightly on the earth, providing life the nutrients it needs to flourish. He’s a dreamer, a stargazer.

And it was that evening, after eating a home cooked meal by Taehyung’s lovely mother, that you found yourself sitting on a giant rock at the edge of mountain looking up at the clear midnight sky. The city was away in the distance, meaning the radiance of the shiny bright stars was unhindered by the artificial glare of city lights.

“Isn’t it beautiful?” Taehyung lets out a deep breath at he gazes upward.

“Yeah” You follow the slow turn of his head as he begins pointing out constellations that you had only ever heard about and telling you stories about travelers lost at sea with only the stars to guide them.

“It’d be cool to go up there, don’t you think?” He says after a moment of silent admiration.

“Sure, I guess” You’re still looking at the dark night sky, with nothing but distant stars to brand it beautiful. It was stunning but mildly frightening at the same time.

A moment passes. He doesn’t respond, and you worry that maybe your unenthusiastic answer hurt his feelings, so you turn your head to look at him. But somewhere along the way your eyes meet, because Kim Taehyung had stopped looking at the sky a while ago and had already been gazing at you.

Present

Thanks to the invention of artificial gravity on the newer spacecraft models, stepping out onto a planet with real gravity was not as difficult as it had been in the past. Back in the day, it would take weeks if not months to adjust to walking again, but now that concern was virtually nonexistent. You have skilled engineers and scientific geniuses to thank for that.

You step out into the warmth of natural light for the first time in over a century. Most of the time, space travel was dull and uneventful, or at least the times you were awake and not hibernating in your pod. Years of interstellar travel never fail to make you forget the natural beauty of a planet teeming with life, the feeling of fresh air hitting your skin and the scent of flora and fauna pooling into your nostrils.

Over the years, you’ve come to visit a number of planets just as beautiful as earth, with their crystallize blue seas and evergreen land forms. Aurora VII was no exception.

It was of similar size to Mars, the first planet that humans ever colonized, and as breathtakingly beautiful as Pandora, a planet named after one that was the setting of a science fiction movie a millennium ago. The organisms on Aurora VII possessed no higher-level intelligence, a blessing, or so you called it. Because in the past, there have been a few interstellar wars fought between the human race and other intelligent species, and although differences were usually settled in the end, the casualties lost and the resources wasted was always a huge blow, and peace is always hanging on a thin thread.

“We have an appointment with the Supreme Leader this afternoon” Hoseok reminds you. His voice snaps you out of your thoughts, and you turn your attention away from admiring the land.

“Kim Taehyung?” Your ears perk up at the thought of meeting the man you saw in the portrait earlier, in this lifetime of course. The leader of Aurora VII was always decided based on whoever lead the crew to the planet. Meaning Kim Seokin and Min Yoongi were once Supreme leaders of Aurora VII, but you were only here to visit and being the leader of the entire human race as a whole, you didn’t have the time or the means to monitor every single planet inhabited. Besides, letting each planet have its own governing body was a way to preserve the peace keep the unrest at bay.

“Acutally Supreme Leader Kim has been succeeded by a man named Jeon Jungkook.”

“Succeeded?” You’re aware of what the word indicates, but it doesn’t quite register right away.

Hoseok proceeds anyways. “Supreme Leader Jeon has received some information he thinks might be of use to you.” Hoseok points to the hovering vehicle in the middle of the grassy field in front of you. “We are invited to the capital today.”

The palace in the capital is enormous; it’s almost as big as the mountain it’s build next to. It blends in quite nicely with the scenery and the lake that connects with the sea through a canal. The buildings of the city look brand new despite being built several centuries ago. There must be something about the atmosphere here that prevents premature decay; either that or they’re made out of a special material that’s everlasting.

You notice that the halls of the palace are almost uncomfortably spacious. The ceiling is high and held up by large white pillars that line the entire passage. It almost feels too empty, but Aurora VII has not had enough time to be populated as much as “older” planets so it’s understandable that the ratio of land to people is still quite large.

“Ah, Y/N, welcome” You hear the voice of someone walking down the steps of the throne room.

You look to see a man with chocolate brown hair and large doe eyes, wearing a black suit.

“Jungkook?” You question, sure that it has to be him but not wanting to risk being wrong.

“I know you expected to see someone else, but unfortunately he left us quite a few years ago.” Jungkook says, signaling you to follow him into the living quarters.

“Left?” You follow him “Can you be a little more specific?” You ask, starting to feel a bit irritated at his choice of words.

“Illness. A virus on this planet that his body was unable to defend itself against.” Jungkook says with a sigh. “There was medication, but it was limited and he chose to give it to those who he deemed was more in need of it than he was.” He shakes his head and falls silent.

You don’t immediately respond, because it has just now been confirmed that what you were thinking was actually the case, though you had hoped it was not.

Jungkook offers you a seat and a cup of what looks to be local tea. The leaves float around lazily on the surface of the hot water as the grassy aroma drifts to your nose.

“He was my best friend, as you can see, he trusted me enough to rule in his place.” Jungkook takes a sip from his own cup. “But never mind that, I requested to meet with you today because a team of my most accomplished scientists have discovered what they think is another habitable planet.”

If your mind had gone blank moments earlier, you were all eyes and ears now that his last statement had something to do with another new planet, a new world just waiting to be discovered. “Really?” You’re eyes widen and excitement begins to flood your body once again.

Flashback to past life 2

College came around way too quickly. Back when you were younger, college was this goal you were going to reach at the finish line, a sort of destination that signaled the end of childhood and your teenage years, and everyone who had already gone off to college was old. But now as you stand on the grassy lawn in front of the student union building holding a stack of textbooks in your left arm and a map of campus in your right, this was all too real.

Real and unbelievable at the same time.

You were trying to figure out how to get to the Physics building. It had to be where the Chemisty, Biology and other science buildings were, right? This would be a lot easier if you had chosen to go to a smaller school, but you also didn’t want to attend a small liberal arts college because you knew you wanted to study the sciences.

Just as you found the building you were looking for on the map, someone bumps into you, causing you to drop all of your textbooks.

“Oh my god, I’m so sorry” You hear someone with a deep baritone voice say.

You look up to see a tall guy with golden brown hair wearing a pair of thin-rimmed glasses and a checkered shirt paired with slacks.

“Are you ok?” He says, looking at you with eyes full of concern.

“Yeah, I’m fine” You reply as you begin to pick up your books. He immediately crouches down to help you.

“I’m Taehyung by the way. Kim Taehyung.” He says after you both stand up.

“Y/N” You say. “Are you a freshman?”

He nods. “I’m assuming you are too?” He eyes your map of campus.

“Yeah, I’m heading over to my first physics class” You look in the direction you were about to walk in before this Taehyung guy had bumped into you.

“Really?!?” He exclaims happily. “I was going over to physics too!”

You don’t why he got so excited all of a sudden, but the rectangular shape that his mouth forms makes your heart race ever so slightly.

Kim Taehyung is a freshman who already knows exactly what he wants to study in college. No doubt about it. He claims he’s known since the day he was born, like he just opened his eyes to the world and knew he was meant to study the universe. You thought he sounded ridiculous at first, but he gradually convinced you to major in the same thing, and although you were unsure in the beginning, you eventually became just as obsessed as he was about the stars and planetary alignments.

“For an Astronomy and Astrophysics major you sure look more like you were meant to study fashion” You voice as you eye him up and down. Taehyung had walked into the library clad from head to toe in designer clothing. He’s sported expensive pieces in the past, but this was taking it to a whole new level.

“This is how I clean up for dates” He grins. “I’ve been trying to find an opportunity to wear these shoes for ages.” He says while pointing down at a pair of fur-lined slippers he was wearing.

“No comment” You say, as begin packing your laptop into your backpack.

Taehyung takes you to the restaurant you guys went to on your first date back at the beginning of the semester. It’s a quaint little restaurant at the end of Food Street, a place that not many people go because it’s apparently “away from the fun”. In other words, it’s away from all the drinking and partying that most college students actively opt to participate in. He says it’s in celebration of your hundredth day anniversary. You didn’t even know such milestones existed, let alone he was actually keeping track of these things.

“You know what’s really cool?” Taehyung asks as the two of you sit on the roof of the restaurant finishing the last of the ice-cream dessert he had ordered, despite claiming to be too full to eat another bite, and then saying he actually has a secret stomach just for sweets.

“Hmm?”

Taehyung leans in closer to you, making a bit of heat rise to your cheeks. “Comets that come around every hundred years or so.” It almost comes out as a whisper in your ear, its soothing and gentle and a stark contrast to his normally playful personality.

“So you can make a wish?” You ask, wondering if that’s what he’s referring to.

He shakes his head. “Because they’re like stars that we can reach. Stars that aren’t so far away.” He answers as he maneuvers his hand down to yours and intertwines your fingers with his.

That night Taehyung shows you the stars you never paid attention to and talks about the universe in even more fascinating ways than he’s ever had before. He shares his dreams of going into space one day if the opportunity ever arose and tells you everything he wants to see and everything he wants to do. He basically shares his whole mind with you, a mind that he normally doesn’t open up to everyone because few people are able to understand him.

But he says that you can, and so he shares with you three words that you will never forget in that lifetime.

Present

According to Supreme Leader Jeon Jungkook, Kim Namjoon is the best aerospace engineer on Aurora VII. He’s the inventor of the new series of starships that travel just below the speed of light, and testing has gone smoothly so far, meaning they could be up and running within the next five years.

“It’s very nice to meet you” Namjoon says as he shakes your hand.

“How did you come up with all of this?” You ask, gaping at all of the modules and spaceship engines he’s designed and built. The lab was filled to the brim with different prototypes and miniature models. Virtual visualizations of the larger parts of the giant spacecraft were displayed on the computer screens that lined the room.

He chuckles. “Well, I’ve had some help.” He points at the robot arms hanging from the ceiling. “Monie. My artificially intelligent system.”

“Ahh.” You respond, still in awe but coming to realization.

“As much as I like to take credit for designing all of this, it was actually the blueprints left behind by previous supreme leaders that sparked the idea initially.” Namjoon explains.

“Seokjin, Yoongi, and Taehyung?”

He nods. “Seokjin was a very practical leader. He chose to focus more on the hibernation pods and how they could be made more efficient to sustain life for even longer periods of time, by slowing down metabolic processes even more so than they already are.”

“So you built them into the ship” You say. Namjoon nods again.

“The outer design of the ship was actually Yoongi’s original sketch.

“Now it makes sense why it looks so sleek and aerodynamic” You comment, while staring at the miniature version kept inside a glass display.

“But the most important element was the speed. As you are probably already aware, there are places in the universe that even with our advanced technology, we can only dream of reaching.”

You turn to look at Namjoon, interest yet again stimulated by the idea of going even farther into the depths of space.

“Taehyung. He thought of using antimatter to generate photons. He noted something along the lines of using light to travel like light.” Namjoon says. “He was a big believer in light, saying that it counteracts the darkness in space. And he loved all suns because all suns are stars, and all stars are sources of light.” Namjoon pauses.

You think he’s finished explaining, but the next thing he says tugs at your heart enough to recall a time in the life you lived before this very one.

“He once wrote that he hopes that light will be able to reach every corner of the universe.”

Flashback to past life 3

Please select another option.

Great. The drink machine was malfunctioning again. Why was it always doing this? You had paid for gold membership, so it was suppose to allow you to get all of the drink options. Water just wasn’t going to cut it today.

“Here, let me help you” You turn to see another passenger on the ship walk up to the machine and press in a passcode.

A cup dispenses and hot coffee begins to fill it.

You learn that the passenger’s name is Kim Taehyung, and he’s not a passenger, he’s an astronaut and actually part of the crew. You also learn that he’s only on call for maintenance, as he wasn’t deemed physically adept enough to do the really hardcore work. Most astronauts these days are products of genetic engineering, basically athletes with optimized physical abilities. But being an outcome of natural birth didn’t stop Taehyung from sneaking into the space program and joining the fiftieth group of explorers to travel to Mars.

You were also part of that fiftieth group of people relocating to Mars. But you were there as a paying passenger in hopes of finding a new life after earth had finally reached carrying capacity and there was simply no room to live comfortably on the home planet.

“I’ve never really learned how to just like something, I’ve always just let it consume me.” Taehyung says as the two of you were sharing a drink at the space bar. There was jazz music playing subtly in the background and the large glass window of the spacecraft offered the most magnificent view of the Earth in the distance, shrouded in misty clouds that wrapped around the blue sphere and the blinding light of the sun even further away.

“You’ve dreamed of coming to space for that long, huh?” You ask, slightly amused at how someone can be so obsessed with something like this.

“I don’t know. I just wake up feeling like I have this mission to light up the darkness.” He says, while taking a sip of his cocktail.

“Light up the darkness?” You laugh, and this is the first time in a long time someone has made you laugh like this.

He grins, and it almost looks silly, but it also feels like home.

“I think… ” Taehyung trails off. He pauses for an unnaturally long period of time in an attempt to build suspense. “Space was just void until the stars came to be.”

“Yeah” You reply, trying to suppress your giggle. “It’s dark until you turn on the lights.”

He scratches the back of his neck, realizing how anticlimactic his statement was, and also realizing he looks kind of dumb right about now.

“But no, I get what you’re trying to say.” You voice after the urge to laugh has gone away. “I thought space was a scary place until I put my focus on the stars.”

“And realize it’s absolutely gorgeous, right?” His face brightens like an excited puppy.

You look at him endearingly and nod.

It was in this life that you first began having thoughts of exploring space and discovering even more planets outside the solar system and beyond.

You fell in love with Kim Taehyung sooner than you probably should’ve, but some instinct seems to have told you that your time with him in this life would not last long.

At first you thought it was because him being part of the maintenance staff on spacecrafts, he would be traveling between the earth and mars for the majority of his life. It was like being an army wife on a whole other level, because that trip was a long journey and time was so precious, you literally only had time to stargaze when he was visiting.

But one thing about stargazing on Mars was that it was even more clear and magical, because the atmosphere on the red planet is less dense, devoid of clouds and mist from water formations. There are also more undeveloped areas void of human remnants, rocky cliffs with no trees to block the boundless nighttime sky.

After joining the colony in Mars, you were soon accepted into the space program there, after voluntarily applying of course. Thinking that maybe this would allow you to be with Taehyung, but the universe was clearly against you because one day you receive the type of ground shattering news that leaves you gasping for air.

It was a report that the spacecraft sent to earth had malfunctioned and that all the passengers aboard were lost in space. Lost in space?! Being lost in the ocean on earth was impossible to find as it is, but lost in space? Might as well just say they were sucked into a black hole.

Just imagining Taehyung as space dust floating endlessly in the dark would cause you heartwrenching pain, the kind that never goes away and comes back with a vengeance. For someone who loved light so much, how could the universe throw him into the black abyss?

He was probably scared.

He was probably calling out for you.

He was probably searching for home.

And so with unwavering resolve, you had vowed to make the entire universe home, a promise that would follow you to your next life.

Present

“I haven’t told Supreme Leader Jeon yet, but we’ve detected new activity on this planet that may suggests it’s being sucked into a black hole.” Namjoon says while rapidly typing on his ginormous supercomputer.

“How accurate are the readings?” You ask, peering over at the screen.

“Only 50%, but that’s pretty high given the distance. I’m calling Jeon now to see if he’ll change his orders in light of this new information.”

You nod and begin pacing back and forth, rubbing your nervous hands together. What will Jungkook say? Will he tell us to proceed? Finding a new habitable planet is a very rare occurrence; he wouldn’t give it up this easily would he?

You hear Namjoon’s voice explaining the situation as a muffle because you are still trapped in your own thoughts.

Then you hear Jungkook’s voice through the video call. “Perhaps we should abandon plans of colonizing that planet and search for others.” Jungkook suggests. For some reason you had hoped that he would be the relentless overlord type and order everyone to proceed with the plans as scheduled, because then you wouldn’t be having to play devil’s advocate now.

“Even so, it would still be light years away from being sucked in completely.” You cut in. “We can still check it out.”

“Y/N, I can’t give you an exact percentage of the risks, but it’s much safer to let it go.” Namjoon says.

“I’m not opposed to sending a small crew over to test the waters.” Jungkook interrupts.

“But Supreme Lea-” Namjoon begins, but you are quick to cut him off.

“I will gather a team together and go once the ship is ready,” You state.

Jungkook nods, giving you the ok. Not like he or anyone could’ve stopped you anyways. Even Namjoon’s warnings were not enough to make you change your mind.

In the next year, you learn a few things about this new planet. It’s five hundred lightyears away in the furthest reaches of the Andromeda galaxy. The intelligent life on Trisolaris, a planet that was eventually destroyed by one of its three suns, had records of its abundance in a material that has yet to be found anywhere else in the universe. This coveted element is said to be located at the planet’s core and is self regenerating in a way that may redefine the first law of thermodynamics. The Trisolarians possessed technology even more advanced than the human race much earlier on. They would’ve been destined to do great things, but the fate of their planet ultimately prevented them from spreading beyond their trisolar system. But luckily they were nice enough to gift humanity with the abundance of information they had collected over their existence as an intelligent species before their race perished in collision with one of their suns.

“It’s a pity that the Three-Body Problem has yet to be solved” You voice as you look up from the data you were analyzing.

“It’s a result of the way the problem is set up in classical mechanics. With quantum it’s easy.” Namjoon replies to your comment nonchalantly.

He’s right of course, but solving it mathematically still would not have saved the Trisolarians from the sporadic and unpredictable orbits of their three suns.

Life on Aurora VII has for the most part been uneventful, besides exploring the uninhabited lands with Hoseok once in a while; you had been spending most of your time in Namjoon’s lab anyways. He has quite a nice library with a comprehensive collection of actual, physical books, something you hadn’t seen before in this lifetime. It was a room with large crystal clear walls, open to the natural scenery of Aurora VII’s various plant species and deeply rooted trees that were probably thousands of years old.

Namjoon is still working on perfecting the antimatter engine of the spacecraft, but these days, he’s been distant, not as philosophical as he had been when you first met him. It maybe the stress, or he’s just not as passionate about this project as he had been in the past.

Progress has been made, but not quick enough for your liking. And this was especially true when you had received the news that other human colonies on other planets have also began planning to mine the new planet for it’s unique material before everything is sucking into the black hole.

You quickly learn that unified expansion was not the number one goal any longer because the seeds of competition within the human race have been sowed, and the conquest and the utilization of natural resources has inevitably become the top priority.

“Commander, the ship’s engine has a minor malfunction. We need to consider aborting.” Park Jimin’s voice was the first sound you hear through the high-pitched ringing in your eardrums.

So this was why you had been awoken from your hibernation pod.

Mind still groggy and vision slightly askew from essentially being asleep for over a century, you shake your head a few times to register his statement.

“Are there enough escape modules?” You ask.

Of course, you had already predicted such a malfunction would occur. After all, Namjoon had made it quite clear to you that the spacecraft was not ready as it had not yet passed safety regulations, but you went ahead and embarked on this dangerous excursion anyways. He couldn’t have stopped you, despite his courageous attempts out of genuine concern and care. No one could.

“We are short of those, but there’s a starship nearby that is offering to take a few of us back.”

“Back?” You repeat his words. “Back as in, in the other direction?”

Jimin nods, face looking hopeful and encouraging.

Your obsession with discovering new planets and thirst for the impression of owning them was a massive understatement. Because when you see the nod of your trusty comrade who’s eyes turn into two crescent moons whenever he smiles, you don’t feel the relief that you should. You don’t feel thankful to have such compassionate people by your side, and instead your mind searches for ways to keep trekking despite obviously walking towards your doom. You always knew your mindset was unhealthy, it had become that way a long time ago, but still you chose to ignore the fact that you had gradually become fixated with owning every last inch of the universe, understanding it, improving it, and controlling it, to a point where nothing else mattered.

The spacecraft that came to the rescue, the Starship Hera, is a ship that harbors 10,000 passengers, and one of its commanders goes by the name of Kim Taehyung.

“Are you saying we have no choice but to turn back?” You ask Jimin as you follow him into the control room.

“Captain Y/N, even if the ship was functioning optimally, we would have to turn back.” Jimin says. He pulls up a reading on the radar. “The new planet has already begun its descent into the black hole. By the time we get there-”

Jimin stops speaking mid sentence at the sound of the control room door opening.

“Greetings Commander Park and Captain Y/N” You hear a smooth baritone voice come from behind you.

Your breath hitches in your throat and you slowly whip your head around to see who you know it is.

Kim Taehyung

There’s something about that man with a charmingly distinctive boxy smile that seems to remain constant in every life you’ve ever met him. Something firm, resolute, and unchanging in this turbulent space we like to call life and existence. Something that measurements like time tries to be but fails miserably at.

The crew unanimously decides to abandon ship. Even Park Jimin has dropped out, not that you expected him to stay anyways. But you, on the other hand, aren’t as able to readily let go…at least not yet.

You decide to give yourself some more time to think, and for some reason Commander Kim Taehyung decides to wait. No one tries to stop him or you because there is one last escape pod, with a large enough capacity to fit two people, and all the other passengers have already boarded Starship Hera and the other pods.

“Does the universe go on forever?” Taehyung asks as he looks out at the darkness. The darkness speckled with botches of shiny glitter, like sparkling diamonds scattered in soil.

“If there is an answer for that, I guarantee I’ll be the first one to find out.” You reply as you sit next to him in the control room. “I want space to be more beautiful, I want to see more of it. I need to know what is still out there that has yet to be ignited.”

“Did you know that there are pocket-sized worlds that feel even bigger than entire multiverses?” Taehyung says suddenly.

You do not understand what he means initially. How can something smaller feel bigger? How can something finite be larger than the infinite?

“I have a lot of dreams about space.” He pauses, taking a soft breath. “In my dreams, I’m always a lonely boy who viewed the immeasurable universe from one position.” Taehyung glances at you, probably wondering if you are still listening. He isn’t aware that at that moment, he has your undivided attention. “I’ve traveled in space for a long, long time, and yet it’s never as picturesque as it is in my dreams. That’s when I realized that only by standing afar are you able to gaze at its vast beauty and mystery.”

You had forgotten what it had been that drew your attention, your love, your passion for the universe and its stars. You had been trapped in an endless progression. You had been determined to reach for what laid millions of miles away. Perpetually reaching out, and by doing so neglecting what was near and dear.

“There is no crew aboard this ship, I will accept your decision.” He finishes.

It was perhaps because of something else, something that began long ago and something you are just seeing now, that conveyed to you that you will never find what you are looking for out there.

And that something turned out to be the looking glass.

Kim Taehyung

He is the lens that captures the cosmic scenery, the celestial light that graces the sky for eternities. And all that is out there is nothing without such a reference point.

He is the corner of the universe, and after centuries and lifetimes of unending searches in the boundless silence of space, it is only now that you realize what you had been looking for had never been out there.

And so you look into the warm eyes of your comrade Kim Taehyung, and whisper three simple words.

“Let’s turn back”

An earlier story had begun on earth, one that came before the one you knew of.

“The sky is so pretty” Your eyes are glistening as you wait for the comet to polish the sky with dazzling lights. It is dusk, and the sun has already disappeared and all that remains are the fading warm hues of yellows and oranges tinting the extensive dark blue palette.

You are sitting on top of a rolling hill with mild gusts of wind blowing ripples into the sea of grass and wild flowers. The air is unpolluted, and the weather is comfortably warm and sincere. Fluffy clouds are afloat here and there, and you can almost imagine falling into their softness.

The boy next to you stirs. “I wish I could gift it to you”

“What? The sky?”

He nods.

“You can’t do that, silly. The sky doesn’t belong to anyone, and probably never will.”

“Can we pretend I can?”

You turn to look at the boxy smile spread across his face. Little did you know, that game of pretend is why he always had his head titled up at the stars. Why he choose to study them in his next life, why he worked so hard to go into space the life after that, and why he’s always been a reliable soldier in humanities conquest of the universe for every life after that.

It’s because you were his stars and he was your corner of the universe.

I have made a few faberry fic recs in the past, and unfortunately, I haven’t found many more fics with them since then? Granted, I haven’t been as much in a faberry-heavy mood for a few months, so… yeah the fic rec lists are the same. You can find them here and here.

A/N: Hey remember how Part 1 was all cute and based off Anne of Green Gables? Yeah this one’s inspired by Macbeth. Rip in pieces. But it’s a little inspired by the stuff that goes down in Rogue One with Galen Erso because that was hella fascinating, and the Star Wars universe seems to enjoy having history repeat itself albeit on a 5000% escalated scale. TLDR, I’m putting these besties through hell.

Also, please be warned that I do touch upon the fact that these characters are very aware of the fact they may die at any given moment, and that the opening sequence is a reaction to a miscarriage.

“I don’t understand,” Was all that Armitage had said, his hand still enveloping yours and his eyes uncharacteristically worried, worlds away from the stoicism aboard the Destroyer. “You declined…they… they… after all we’ve done, after all you’ve worked for-“

“Tidge I just can’t do it anymore.” You admitted, breath struggling to leave your throat as it constricted tightly in fear and paranoia. Everything could be heard through the thin walls. “I can’t.”

“And I refuse to have you leave my side,”

“No, no that was never a question. Just,” You paused, staring hard at the floor. “Power or my child!?”

And you were back where you started, on the floor, hands skimming over a roundness that wouldn’t be there anymore. The Administration saw to that. Snoke saw to that. You and your dear, dear best friend were to be left alone in the cold galaxy it seemed, any source of happiness to be siphoned off, every ounce of energy to be dedicated to the party.

“Why must they hate us?”

“Who, love?” Your husband murmured soothingly into your hair, a gloved finger attempting in vain to wipe away whatever salty tears trickled down your face.

“All of them.”

“I suppose it must be lonely at the top, love. Nevertheless we have each other. That’s all we need.”

“They told us when we were children that power was both war and intellect,” You stated calmly, hyper-active ventilation whipping wisps about of hair around your face as the rest of it was tucked into the neat crown braid you’d managed all your life. Your husband’s gloved hand moved from the sterile railing of the freighter to your own, mutually giving each other the silent comfort that had been commonplace all your lives. “We risk our lives, we’ve become traitors. Isn’t that funny, Carrots?”

“We risk our lives anyway, returning to the Supreme Leader,” He answered back, tired eyes moving from the vast expanse of dark void to your face.

You were eighteen once, nearly fifteen years ago now. You were wide-eyed and soft and romantic and so was Armitage, though certainly shyer and much more reserved than you had been. And you’d both clawed your way through the Academy, holding your youthful husband close at night as he refused to cry, quietly seething at his father’s callousness and your father’s cruelty. Whether you be nine, sleeping together at an Academy camp or the night-time exploits of nineteen with a week’s worth of planet leave; the image never changed, fact remain you both refused to be parted.

Perhaps that was why you left the service, deciding that perhaps clerical work was quieter. And it was, but the information you had seen before you burned behind the lids of your eyes. You let far too many things happen and Tidge had been far too complacent in allowing them to happen.

Until Star Killer. He’d spent years attempting to convince himself that it was Arkanis and the outer rim planets’ only chances are liberation. Even Ren had hid own slow loss of faith in the plan. What fucking idiot didn’t know it was simply Death Star? It was doomed from the start. The numbers, the engineering… none of it added up.

And Armitage Hux, your clever, brilliant, cunning husband knew that. He knew there were flaws.

And he hid them. He hid them from Snoke, your fathers, every bit of brass worth knowing in First Order Command.

Why? You still didn’t know. And you doubted you ever would. But it wasn’t too difficult, Armitage had mastery of words and you of numbers and code. It took very little to hide the information, remaining unassuming and pale before the endlessly growing base.

“He’s left us in peace after all Starkiller, but that over-grown child goes AWOL and it’s our necks on the line.” His words were heavy with implication, you knew that meant death in returning to the Grand Master.

“We’re the children of a Brigadier and a Commondant, I suppose he expects better,” You mused, massaging your stomach as Armitage, now alarmed, assisted you in sitting down upon the grimy freighter’s co-pilot seat. “I was always the better pilot, my dear ginger husband,”

“Not in that condition, you can’t even reach your boot laces.” He sneered, calculating his next trajectory as you did as much as possible before yourself, rolling your eyes at the reminder. “I, I’ve…” Armitage’s face slowly began to shift, the usual sharp and aristocratic features giving way to an expression you hadn’t seen for a very, very long time. The familiar sense of dread, sadness and anger managing to claw it’s way to your already hurting heart.

Fear. He was scared.

“Tidge?”

“I’ve failed you, our children- I’ve failed our family.”

“Not your father,” You spat bitterly.

“No, not that fucking bastard.” He choked out a nervous laugh, but still, even strapped into the pilot’s seat and hidden in layers of civilian clothing he hadn’t worn for years. “I promised us our twilight years together, retired, surrounded by cats.”

“Yes, you did, didn’t you?” You recalled the hazy memory of seventeen, drunk on Correllian Whiskey and scared for what the future held.

“It seems I can’t even bargain a decade for us. Perhaps not even a month in my case.” And with every passing second his tired, heavy eyes would flicker down to the only legacy you two cared about now. Not power, not dreams of entire galaxies and a crown upon your head.

A child, innocent, with your curious eyes and their father’s equally as fiery hair.

Let them tarnish your names, let history speak of the despicable actions of General Hux and his insipid, barely-mentioned wife. Let those school students be cruel and let them judge their actions as they doodle little hearts and initials in the corner of their datapads, giggling with their best friends that they slowly fall in love with. Let them believe they could rule the universe the same way you and your best friend had once.

But in the process of a violent, raging star dying; the supernova and the ensuring black hole dragging and swallowing every planet and comet and every single piece of light in it’s wake, you hoped it would leave behind the swirling new star forming on the far edges of the solar system.

“We’ll survive it. We always do, love,” Your hand moved from your swollen middle to his cold hand, gloves discarded, forever, on the floor.

“We damned ourselves long ago.” Armitage admitted forlornly, smiling as well as he could. “It its perhaps my only regret I cursed you all as well.”

“No. No, we wanted the whole galaxy together. It is only right that the forces that we once dictated do their best to drown us.” The tears escaped past every durasteel wall you had built, furiously, you attempted to wipe them away, clumsily with a fisted sleeve. “But we will face it nevertheless. We’re not running. We’re…” You were lost for words, entirely unsure of where yourself and the former General were headed. “Where are we going, darling?”

“I don’t know, somewhere.” He admitted shortly, running a tired hand over his face. “I’ve sent it.”

“And now we wait?”

“And now we wait. For how long? As long as they will give us, I suspect.”
