#why change monarch's costume
Text
Thomas Astruc: “Our designs are better than PIxar’s”

That take was bad from the get go, but it really aged poorly.
Félix’s costume is basically Shadowmoth’s with a hoodie, Zoe was done dirty and the least is said about Monarch’s new design, the better.

Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart commentary and extras.
This is what I gathered during my first watch. Hopefully, I'll be able to upload the audio bits like I did for seasons 1-7 eventually! I'll catch all the little details then 💛
Let me get this out of the way. They did not answer the most important question of all.
Tumblr media
In the past, Doc and Jackson have said that what they say in the commentary isn't necessarily canon. What is canon is what's in the actual show, not what they explore outside of the show because they're always changing their minds. Sometimes they disagreed while answering questions. Take that as you'd like.
Jonas didn’t abandon The Monarch after the plane crash intentionally. He assumed he died or he ran away before he got there. They hinted that Jonas downed the plane himself.
When asked if Jonas loved Rusty they say he’s a bad person, the villain of the show, and a monster. Jackson thinks he might have been a boy adventurer himself. They compare him to baby boomers forcing their children to live the lives they wanted themselves.
Does Rusty have the other twin killed when only one dies? Jackson says only when they witness the death. He referenced Ice Station Impossible. Brock has done it before.
Ritchie Valens refused to join The Guild and Red Mantle and Dragoon’s (Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper) initiation was to kill him so he wouldn’t tattle.
Doc says the second sons are the ones who succeed in The Guild, not the first sons, because they’re most likely to become evil and that’s why Dean was chosen as The Guild’s successor.
Doc described two episodes he would like to do: 1. "Heads in the water." Which is the heads of characters bobbing in the water after a crash for the entire episode. An all dialog bottle episode. 2. An episode that starts off like a regular Venture Bros episode. Then a henchman dies and everything pivots. 21 calls his wife and says “Real sorry but your husband died in service” (Doc put on his 21 voice here). We then see the wife and daughter (from another marriage) and follow them in their lives.
What is The Monarch's favorite ABBA song? Doc thinks Waterloo and Jackson thinks Take a Chance. They riff as Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend for a few seconds.
Gary's a big Sneaker Pimps fan.
Rusty doesn't have a middle name. If you ask Rusty he'll say the S stands for sexy or science or SUPER science. Rusty’s favorite musical is Starlight Express or RENT (Jackson disagreed). He's never actually watched them but he likes the advertisements.
Brock Frog is the guy that "brings in bagels". A 3rd generation Italian American from "bricklayer stock." He fell out with his dad because he wanted to bring bricks into the future. He teamed up with Professor Vigo Dale, who screwed him out of half of the company after Brick Frog gave him all of his brick ideas.
Mantilla has the ability to make things invisible by touching them but claimed it was teleportation. “It’s all bullshit…and she had money from her past”
Mantilla has been "garbage picking" from The Monarch’s trash, such as Dr. Mrs.'s costume ideas in season 3 that she had thrown away and their wedding invitation.
The guys in the warehouse with Jefferson were all roommates in the 90s.
We would have had a full episode of Force Majeure and Jonas Venture's rivalry.
We would have had another episode of Billy and Colonel Gentleman "John Wicking" after Mischa was found dead right before a doggy costume contest.
Matt Berry was supposed to voice Force Majeure.
Why does The Monarch hate Doc so much? Jackson says “Obviously it (the thought that Debra left him for Rusty) bothers him a little more than he said.”
They called Gary's hair “the popular millennial cut” and made him "half Glen Danzig half Wolverine."
Doc has drunk his own urine multiple times because they pee in bottles in the Astrobase. "Recently".
During the last scene in the movie when everyone is talking, Gary and Hatred were talking about a loofah. Hatred asked Gary "Ah...you use a loofah?". Dr. O was talking about intermittent fasting.
24 made a guest appearance in the "Fan Questions" extra for a few seconds.
They refused to answer the questions about Scare Bear and what Rusty and Billy were doing in the time machine in case they're able to continue the story.
They made a joke about telling people just enough in the commentary to get them excited and want more. (A “joke” haha)
During Prom, Pete and Billy would have studied the Push It video extensively. Pete would’ve entered the dance floor and “boxed it out” to make space. Billy would’ve walked in the circle nonchalantly. Then they would have recreated the entire dance.

I wanna talk about Marinette’s almost akumatization and the dancing theme tied to it.
*I do want to put the disclaimer that the translation for this episode at the time I watched was not 100% accurate and I don’t speak French. Some things may be slightly misinterpreted due to translation.
I’ll start with Chat Noir giving Marinette a red rose and her tucking it behind her ear. The reason why the animators had her keep a rose behind her ear was reminiscence of Tango which incorporates the use of a rose in its choreography.
Tumblr media
Marinette and Chat Noir even dance on over to André to order ice cream. At first it seemed like they were being giddy and silly. They were experiencing blissful happiness after facing heartbreak and the traumatic events that lead up to that point. People dance for many reasons, one reason is how freeing the act of dancing is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because of Gabriel/Hawkmoth, m both of their freedoms have been surpassed for similar and different reasons. But being together that night, they were allowing themselves to experience true freedom. Love without a mask, love without consequences…until they are reminded of them.
Still, Marinette was willing to not let identities dictate her happiness once more. So they (excessively) kiss. This feeling gets crushed when Chat Noir tells her that this was not a good idea because of his status as a hero (and the fact that he is Adrien). She instantly gets frustrated, feeling that she cannot make the decision to be with someone she loves.
When Marinette gets akumatized, the akuma is placed in the rose. A symbol of love that constantly appears in the show. Monarch told Marinette he was going to give her the ability to unmask people. Masquerades are parties were guests dance and are dressed in elaborate costumes and masks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Masquerades are a popular trope. Typically its two lovers dancing together unaware of who is behind the mask. After the night ends you are left wondering who was the person behind the mask and if they would truly love who you are underneath the mask. A concern that Chat Noir expresses after they kiss for the first time.
Marinette’s look/akuma ability would’ve been influence by Tango and masquerades. Her goal as stated by Monarch would’ve been to unmask Chat Noir. As Ladybug, Marinette is always dancing around her personal life and secret identity. She just wants a partner to join her in that dance-which is why she fears dating Adrien.
Its a dance that she thinks she will fumble through. Constantly worrying about her next step causing her to trip and eventually getting out of sync with her partner.
But Chat Noir knows the dance. He understands the steps. This is why she changes her direction and focuses on simping building a romantic relationship with Char Noir...but at the end of the night the mask would still be there….causing complications and concerns…
Anyways I wish we did get to see her akuma design 😜✌️

My sides!
This is my own take on sanders sides, and my own sides. It's a longer post, so I shall save you all with a read more.
Morality/Justice: A given that’s similar to Thomas’ morality, though mine would lack the religious aspects of his. I think that my Morality would be very guilty for no apparent reason, constantly feeling like they’ve done something wrong. Though, they would also embody Justice a lot more. A sense of needing to stand up for others and right wrongs would be very strong.
Logic/Knowledge: Again, a given. I feel that my Logic would be a fair bit more relaxed, more similar to season one Logic (you know, when he still smiled). Logic likes math. I do not. We don’t completely get along, but I love my Logic.
Creativity: Similar to how Thomas’ Morality takes charge, my Creativity does! Mine isn’t split, either, allowing me to explore dark themes in my work without needing to consult two entities. They would likely act similarly to me, though more so me when I enjoy being extremely flamboyant/cartoonish. Again, similarly to how Thomas has said that Roman is a more feminine part of him as a cisgender man, my Creativity would likely be more of a figure that allows me to explore my gender and presentation. Considering my identity as both fluidflux and trans (FtM), I find it freeing to explore both femininity and masculinity. Instead of a Prince or Duke, I think my Creativity would either be a Monarch (being more inspired by actual history) or a Bard (more inspired by Dungeons and Dragons).
Anxiety: While I actually have an imagined little guy for my Anxiety (his name is Archibald and he’s basically a furry purple softball with human legs and sick ass shoes) my Anxiety as a side would follow the same side rules. That being me in a costume. I don’t think my Anxiety would speak much, opting for a more silent approach. When they do speak, it would be rather rushed and frantic, in an odd tone that manages to be both overbearingly loud and back-of-your-mind quiet at the same time.
Preservation: This side would take more of Deceit’s role. I don’t think that my own perception of Deceit and my relationship with lying would be enough for Preservation to become solely Deceit. I do think that Preservation acts as a bridge between Anxiety and Logic, trying to keep me safe in the most logical way possible. Preservation and Morality would still butt heads a little more, but I think that because of my own relationships with my different facets they would manage to get along a lot better. That would mostly be because my sides are not Thomas’. They are their own things, and Morality is also Justice. I don’t have Deceit– I have Preservation.
Instinct: While I have one whole Creativity, my Impulsive Thoughts are a separate side. This is due in large part to the fact that I don’t see those thoughts as a part of my Creativity, per se, more just as simple instinct. Hence why my Intrusive/Impulsive Thoughts are labeled as Instinct. They tend to put the others on edge, with Logic being the only one to be able to handle them effectively. Logic then does get Creativity namely to help with actually dealing with them, though Logic is the one that understands how.
Memory: An additional side that Thomas does not have, Memory encompasses both what I do remember and what I do not. The times I forget to text a friend back? Memory’s doing. When I’m minding my own business and suddenly Anxiety is in the back of my head telling me that one thing I did four years ago? Who do you think told them about that? Memory. Memory certainly has less influence on me than most of the others, but probably has the most influence on the other sides. Instinct is telling me to recreate that thing I saw in a horror movie? They asked Memory for specifics.
Notes on my sides and such:
I don’t have dark sides. I don’t have light sides. They are all my sides and coexist equally.
The Mindscape is an ever changing place. It has no static form, except for in Logic’s domain.
Each side has their own domain’s in the Mindscape:
Logic’s is an expansive library, often shared with Memory as it has a section dedicated to my memories. The books are all filled with information I have. There is also a section dedicated to the books I have read. There is a subsection of that in the corner of books I did not enjoy. It’s not a very large subsection.
Justice’s domain is changing as all of theirs, but often stays as a courtroom. The courtroom is where most debates are held.
Anxiety’s domain is likely the most unnerving. Of all places it flits between though, it often lands on a dance studio. Specifically the studio where a fair amount of my issues with Anxiety stem from. That and my Grade 4 classroom. A lot of the time, though, it’s just my bedroom. Specifically designed to ease my fears and nerves.
Preservation’s domain also lands on my bedroom most often, although theirs tends to match my current environment more than anything.
Memory’s domain changes frequently, but only ever adopts places I’ve been. It most often falls on my school, the lake where I go in the summers, or the houses I’ve lived in. I like it in Memory’s domain. Most of the time.
Instinct’s domain is… I don’t know what it is. I’ve never been. Though, from how the other’s describe it, I’m not sure I want to.
All of the domains form a pie-chart like shape. All but one.
Creativity’s domain is in the centre of all of them. It tends to take the form of a castle, or a forest, or a mediaeval village. Most influences are based in fantasy, though it also tends to be inspired by some things I think about at the time. For example, it will sometimes take the form of Gravity Falls, or Wartwood from Amphibia. Occasionally it’s in more sci-fi styles, though that’s less common. Creativity’s domain is where most discussion happens. When discussions are ongoing, a more “serious” style is chosen at Logic’s request. They end up discussing in a castle a lot of the time.
Logic and Creativity actually get along quite well. Logic is under the disposition that no art can be complete without a semblance of truth and/or reality (as am I), and Creativity is glad to have a beta reader for free.
Logic and Creativity teamed up to help me create my website.
Creativity is also in control of my hyperfixations, though even they can’t control what I like and when. They just decide what I do about it.
Creativity also takes the role of my feelings (similar to how Patton does the same for Thomas).
Anxiety is not a malicious force for me. Though, since my anxiety is caused by them they are the reason I feel it. To optimally take care of the nervous feeling in my stomach I must make sure Anxiety has been sufficiently appeased (Creativity lovingly refers to it as “feeding the beast”).
Morality and Preservation often work together, especially when I may be getting in trouble.
Archibald still exists here. He hangs out with Anxiety and screams at me.
Instinct is frequently around, much to my dismay. I can’t get rid of them, but I do what I can to deal with them. Rather, Logic does what they can to manage them.
In how Thomas’ sides all have their own archetypes (teacher, dad, emo, prince, etc), mine do as well! They are subject to change.
Creativity is either a Bard or a Monarch (I haven’t decided).
Morality, though their domain is often a court, is more of an activist figure. The Justice isn’t just for show.
Logic is a teacher as is Thomas’, but also gives off the vibes that they volunteer at the local library.
Preservation is a survival instructor (JOKING)
Preservation is actually [FINISH THIS SENTENCE XAV]
Anxiety mostly just looks like myself. In my sensory safe outfit and wearing my headphones. You cannot take off the headphones. They’re also always fiddling with something, be it the slug, a twist tie, or their own hands.
Memory is a parent.
Instinct is also just A Guy. They’ve got a deal but we cannot figure it out.
They also all have their own colours. They are subject to change.
Morality’s colour is green. Specifically the green used in parliamentary buildings in Canada.
Anxiety is red. Archibald is purple as always.
Creativity is purple because of the royal ties.
Logic is still blue.
Memory is black/other dark shades.
Instinct is white/other light shades.
Preservation is Safety Orange. Flat out the colour of a Road Work Ahead sign.

WHEW it's late here already but after watching this episode I just had to find somewhere to pour out my feelings and what better way than the cold black void also known as my Tumblr blog? 😭👊 P.S. sorry in advance if this is a mess
⚠️ Jubilation Episode Spoilers Ahead⚠️
Same Old Creepy Lunatic
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, let's start with Mr. Cotton buds here. We all know that this man is actually insane but, oh man, seeing who seems to be Emily as his Siri rip-off got me off-guard. We saw in "Multiplication" that he had to do a full body scan of Adrien in what I assume is a facility owned by the Tsurugis to make his 3D model. I doubt he would have requested Amelie to do this for a number of reasons. So, did he just secretly drag Emily's unconscious body to the facility to get her scanned just so she can be his personal virtual assistant? 💀
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, we've seen Hawky change costumes many times but I honestly like his old classic costume way better than any other else ESPECIALLY this Monarch one. The new one just looks so much more hilarious 😭😂 like PLEASE why did he randomly decide to have his ears out? And I see that his fake grandkids got their grandpapi's piercing blue eyes.
Kwami and Technology
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ya'll, they literally reminded us in this episode that Kwamis aren't supposed to be detected by tech but then we now see that they're largely being controlled by... guess what? Technology! Like, Hawky is literally transferring their powers to the akumatized's ring as if he were just sending an email. But ya know what? this is Miraculous we're talking about. The logic in this show is non-existent so let's just not think too deeply about this and move on *cough cough*
The Dream
Oh my god. This... this part was a rollercoaster of emotions
Tumblr media
Firstly, this shot kinda caught me off-guard again because... Chat Noir in all white... *sobs* at least it didn't give Ladybug any traumatic flashbacks I guess 😭🏃‍♀️💨
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Secondly, I love how they get more creepy babies with each next shot 😂 I guess they'll have more than just Louis, Emma, and Hugo.
"Neither do I, my sweet kitten. So Join me!"
yeah, you heard that? That was my heart shattering into a million pieces. The moment when the umbrella theme music started playing, I knew that this scene would destroy me. the fact that Chat Noir tried to break the clock makes my heart hurt so much. He wanted to stay in this dream so bad that he'd risk everything else. The fact that he also had to stay behind a little longer to grieve everything that he just lost is- is- AGHHHHH 😭 this poor boy just let him be truly happy FOR ONCE! And the way they kissed each other with tears streaming down both their cheeks 🥺😫 Ladybug's line was also seriously so romantic: "But I don't want to lose all of this!" "Neither do I, my sweet kitten. So Join me!" She's saying that she still wants to have this life with him but to truly have this future, they have to wake up 🥺😭 SO IT KILLS ME HOW IN DENIAL SHE STILL WAS DURING THE END SCENE!!! At least we see that Chat was slightly smiling during their conversation about it, which could mean that he knows it wasn't really manipulated and what they both saw are truly what they both desired. *deep inhale of copium*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you made it this far, thanks again for reading my rambles. *hands you a cookie 🍪* till next time!

Cookie of the Week: Pure Vanilla Cookie
This Cookie of the Week is...
Tumblr media
Cookie name: Pure Vanilla Cookie
Pronouns: He/Him
Rarity: Ancient
Position: Rear
Type: Healing
Lore: Pure Vanilla is one of the five Ancient Heroes, carrying the Light of Truth in his Soul Jam. He was first mentioned in Episodes 7 and 8 where it was discovered that he had gone to Blueberry Yogurt Academy with White Lily. During this time, he had a rebellious side, skipping classes and exploring the forbidden library section with White Lily to research how to create the perfect Cookie. He did stop when he believed they had crossed a line or limit. Before finding the Vanilla Kingdom, Pure Vanilla had to go through the 12 Trials of the Sugar-Free Road with a group of other Cookies from his village. Once they had reached the end of the Sugar-Free Road, Pure Vanilla was crowned as King of the Vanilla Kingdom. On the day of his coronation, Pure Vanilla was reunited with White Lily and was happy to see her again. During the Dark Flour War, Pure Vanilla sacrificed himself to seal Dark Enchantress. When he makes his visible appearance in Episode 9 (Castle in the Sky), he was going under the name of Healer Cookie. He doesn’t reveal himself until Episode 10 (Timeless Kingdom) when he, GingerBrave, and his friends are fighting against Dark Enchantress and her army. Once they won, Pure Vanilla regained the Vanilla Kingdom and instead of being King again, he allowed the kingdom to be open to everyone. His next appearance is during the Cookie Odyssey as the ambassador of the Vanilla Kingdom. The last appearance he made was during the Crunchy Dream event where he had a dream about White Lily and Dark Enchantress, questioning if he still loves her.
Personality: Pure Vanilla is a wise, benevolent, all-loving monarch who genuinely holds his subjects and kingdom close to his heart. He only uses his magic to help others. Even with his supposed arch-nemesis Dark Enchantress, he remains altruistic and puts effort into convincing her to change her mind, never giving up on her, and wants to understand why she chose the dark path (he will not hesitate to fight and stop her to the point of sealing her away with the cost of his life). After the war, he suffered a sort of inferiority complex, belittling himself for his failures, and entered a breakdown when captured in a dark illusion by Dark Enchantress’s followers. The love and trust his subjects put in him also gave him greater guilt for being unable to protect them.
Skills: Pure Vanilla's Skill is called Love &Peace. This skill has Pure Vanilla grants Amplify Buffs and regular healing by illuminating the battlefield with his Vanilla Orchid Staff. The light reaches the whole battlefield, replenishing the party’s HP and reducing the effects of Injury. He heals the amount of HP proportional to the reduction of Injurt’s effects before casting an HP Shield to absorb an amount of damage proportional to Max HP. If the Shield is removed or cannot be received, Pure Vanilla will grant a buff that restores HP over time. He will briefly become resistant to interrupting effects.
Costumes: Pure Vanilla has one costume: Pastel Blue. It can be obtained at any point in the game, is part of a costume set (Report of One Fine Day Off), and does have a special effect on the skill (different flowers during skill animation).
Tumblr media
Cookie Decor: Pure Vanilla does have a Cookie Decor called Vanilla Orchid Garden. It's both cute and bittersweet to see him in his decor.
Thoughts: He is an adorable Cookie who just wants his goth wife back.

Well it looks like even Miraculous is getting into multiverse madness with Tales of Shadybug and Claw Noir, featuring the evil versions of Team Miraculous. But instead of an increasingly convoluted and hard to follow mess it's instead forty-five minutes of superhero fun. Let's get at it.
Shadybug: With a few tweaks, Marinette's hero origin story becomes her villain origin story. So go the fickle threads of fate. Shadybug is a very believable dark mirror of Ladybug, who's compassion has understandably run dry. She sees the Miraculous as something that stops her from being hurt, even as it kills her. But ultimately, Shadybug desperately wants the life Ladybug has, and is willing to rewrite reality to do so. It's also the key to her turn to good - the possibility that better things are possible. Indeed, the power of hope is enough to heal the damage the Miraculous have done to her and Claw Noir. Speaking of...
Claw Noir: But what if Adrien was somehow more self-destructive? Like with Shadybug, a little loneliness goes a cruel way, and Claw Noir is happy to destroy anything if it gets him closer to his goal - himself included. I'm getting actual, full-on vibes that Claw Noir thinks he has nothing to live for, which is why he's immediately drawn to the wish. Chat Noir telling him that he can have someone else in his life is the spark of hope that changes his fate, hopefully for the better.
Betterfly: The good Gabriel Agreste, who turns hope into superpowers and opposes the rule of the mysterious supreme. Unfortunately, his parenting skills seem to match Monarch's, as Claw Noir is a self-destructive supervillain who is slowly dying of Miraculous poisoning, and Betterfly has apparently not noticed this. While Betterfly does come off as better than Monarch, there may be a less than altruistic reason for him starting his crusade, depending on just how his version of Emilie died. Hopefully with Claw Noir turning good, there is hope for a better ending between father and son.
The Supreme: The mysterious villain who torments the world of Shadybug and Claw Noir. He is an awful person, exploiting two deeply unhappy children for his own ends, essentially sentencing them both to a slow death. This means he is of course Evil Fu, as he displays all of Fu's negative traits even as a villain. This can be verified through just how bad his plan to retrieve the Butterfly Miraculous actually is.
He recruits Sad Marinette and Sad Adrien as wielders, without mentioning that using the Miraculous for evil will kill them. Which gives them a reason to resent him. Then at some point he established that he will "spare" the one of the two who brings him the Butterfly. Not only does this destroy any chance of the two working together, but it puts them into active conflict, as neither wants the other to deliver the Butterfly to the Supreme. This means that there's a non-zero chance that on acquiring the Butterfly Miraculous, the villain that does will akumatize the other, then proceed to murder the Supreme in an act of entirely justified vengence. A terrible plan all around, especially when he could just say "do this and you get to be part of the Inner Circle, with all the benefits that brings". Shadybug and Claw Noir are clearly very good at what they do, so that's not even giving much up.
Monarch: Okay, was the stained glass costume always this good? Maybe it's the higher-quality animation, but compared to the later costume, this one is actually kicking. Plus the detail where the different segments light up based on which Miraculous he's using? That's super cool. Ten out of ten, no notes.
Oh No The Plot Hole: Okay so Ubiquity Ladbug stops Monarch from stealing alternate universe Miraculous to complete his plans. Except she can only do this as long as she possess the power of Ubiquity, which she got from Betterfly. Surely Monarch can just wait until tomorrow and try again?
Anyway overall it was pretty neat. Nice bit of extra content that is only slightly dubious into how it slots into the timeline of Season Five.

Assorted KingOhger Thoughts That Got Kinda Out Of Hand
I probably won’t do a whole post about every episode but I am. So into this whole thing. Gimme this big sweeping plot and dramatic shooting style, gimme these costumes.
-holy geez the SCALE of this thing
-the cg backgrounds look Fine. I don’t especially like them but it is what it is. Tokusatsu is supposed to look campy so… mission successful!
-that said, oh my god they are using that donbro money, huh????
-M I N I A T U R E S
-The entire cockpit armature looks so awkward to use, but I love it even more for that. It’s real! It’s a thing that you have to move and puppet. It gives real impact to the motion of the robot!
-This is a bit random but I like that Gira is the shortest of the guys. He’s not short, he’s like 5’9, but like. I like when the ‘center’ character doesn’t have to be the tallest. I also love a tall Red, but it’s nice as a change. I think the last time a Red was shorter than the rest of the guys was… Keiichirou?? And even he’s one of two reds.
more spoilery thoughts/specific moments under the cut
-”if you go without me you’ll just get into fights” i immediately love you, Yanma’s retainer
-Yanma’s retainer has Usopp Energy, but I do not know how to be more specific with that statement
-The royal guard who was extorting the villagers was Takada Masashi, suit actor for Kijibro, Zenkaizer, Patren #1, Kyoryu Blue, etc etc etc. He has a long list of cameos as cops!
-I am extremely weak to characters who are nice to children
-I am extremely weak to “very well. I’ll be the villain, if that’s what you want” *immediately becomes very dangerous*
-Gira got into the castle without anyone noticing or stopping him, and then bodied the king, stealing both his cape AND his sword, the sword without Racles even noticing. That, my friends, is a thief. A rogue one might say.
-the long shot of Gira deciding to put on his villain persona from play-pretend *chefkiss*
-boy had tears in his eyes, he was shaking, good acting choices, very affecting
-I was not expecting to be so charmed by Yanma. I am extremely weak to a yankee.
-But also he’s the only one other than Gira to question authority, and the moment shit got real he tried to activate the mech. He didn’t go into the streets like the other three, but he was trying to get in the fight!
-Was not expecting them to go boots on the ground so easily?? Damn! They really were prepared for this! Not a one of them hesitated!
-Ran seeing to the unconscious girl was a surprise. “I’ll protect her, you evacuate” is much more heroic behavior than I was initially expecting from a selfish queen character. I guess I would expect her to be more theatrical or mean about it? She was very straightforward. Not a complaint, just interesting!
-Rita, excellent, no notes, they are just, they are just standing there
-Just standing there outside in the freezing arctic cold while someone tries to get them to come inside, just out there being dramatic for no one’s benefit but their own
-Just standing there until they put a hole in a monster twice their size very good very good
-I actually don’t have much to say about Kaguragi, but I did like that moment where he sorta tried to diffuse Rita and Yanma, liked his kind of ‘come on we don’t do that’ affect
-I want to see more of everyone already
My prediction for episode 2 is that Yanma is going to abduct Gira before he’s captured, to interrogate him as to why he could activate the mech. This will unintentionally play into Racles’ desire to invade Yanma’s country, because now Yanma can be made to appear to be aiding and abetting a dangerous traitor to the crown, in addition to not agreeing to activate the mech with the other rulers and putting everyone in danger.
Maybe the various monarchs are all going to end up on the run?? Like, as they interact with Gira, and Racles uses that to attack them?
*strokes chin* I should watch more costume drama…

Okay, listen.
I’m not gonna lie, I used to bully the Hawk Moth costume constantly. I would make comments about him being bald, being purple guy, all the things.
But listen. I MISS the original costume now.
Tumblr media
LOOK HOW SIMPLE IT WAS
So concise, so sleek, so recognizable. Purple, as much as it reminded be of william, suited his character. It WORKED.
Tumblr media
I even didn’t mind this costume. I actually liked it. I liked how they didn’t really change the over all design but added some flair with the new miraculous addition. Still recognizable. I didn’t like the name change from Hawk Moth to Shadow Moth but hey it wasn’t bad. I got used to it.
Tumblr media
Then we have this monstrosity. There’s nothing good about this. Not a single thing. Let me just say-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-this is the energy it gives. WAIT OMG HE LOOKS LIKE THE ANATOMICAL MUSCLE MAN
Tumblr media
Not to mention that he changed his name to SCARLET MOTH??? Like it doesn’t even flow the way Hawk Moth and Shadow Moth did. Do I need further explanation as to why I hate this design?? Me thinks no
Onto the next and final design (for seasons available at least)
I think I need a TW for this one
Tumblr media
WHAT IS THAT???? WHAT ARE THE EARS DOING??? THEY ARE FREE ROAMING. FOREHEAD-AGE TO THE MAX. AND WHATS WITH THE EYES???? Up until this point his eyes have been normal and cohesive to normal Gabriel. This one they just decided to make him look weird asf???? I’ll give it to them, the actual costume is nice. They brought back the purple. They made the broach it’s normal colors again. They made him shiny??? I don’t absolutely despise it. The face is what makes this the absolute worst design. Not to mention THE NAME CHANGE???? I hate it sm. Monarch would’ve been a great name for another character. I like the name Monarch itself. I HATE IT FOR HAWK MOTH. All of the previous names had the ending Moth. I get it I get it this is his evolved form with all the miraculous but come on. They laid out the formula I just want them to follow it.

Zawe Ashton Is Having Fun Playing the Villain
The actor gets candid about playing a vengeful society lady in Mr. Malcolm’s List and the lead villain in the Captain Marvel sequel.
Tumblr media
After watching her latest film, Zawe Ashton’s father turned to her in shock. “He looked at me and said, ‘You’re smiling,’” she recalls over Zoom. She laughs, relishing the memory. “He just wants to see his little girl show some teeth and not be depressive, or druggy, or on the verge of a nervous breakdown.”
Not that she has a problem with that summary of her roles. “Look,” she deadpans. “You have to have a lane, right?”
Ashton’s lane has been filled with a range of deliciously dark characters, even though she is, in real life, contagiously ebullient, always one smile away from laughter. Ashton first broke out onscreen in the 2011 series Fresh Meat (created by pre-Succession Jesse Armstrong) as Vod, a metal-loving drug dealer, following that up over the years with roles as a tough aid worker in The Handmaid’s Tale, and a chicly downcast art gallery assistant in Velvet Buzzsaw. On Broadway, she costarred in a production of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal, acting alongside Tom Hiddleston, her future fiancé. (The couple is now expecting their first child together.) Then there’s her work as a writer, penning plays like for all the women who thought they were Mad and the superbly titled fiction-as-memoir Character Breakdown. If her career alone was a facial expression, it would be an elegant scowl.
But she’s changed course with Mr. Malcolm’s List, a frothy, Regency-era rom-com now playing in theaters. Ashton plays Julia Thistlewaite, a lady hoping to win the heart of the titular Mr. Malcolm (Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù), a rich and respectable suitor. But when he rejects her for not meeting all the necessary criteria on his list, Julia decides to get even. She coaches her friend Selina (Freida Pinto) into being Mr. Malcolm’s perfect match. Once Mr. Malcolm falls in love with her, Julia plots, she’ll have Selina reject him.
Ashton, as her father aptly noticed, plays the antagonistic role with comedic verve, far and away having the most fun of anyone onscreen. But she also grounds the role with a palpable vulnerability that trembles underneath her pithy punch lines. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Ashton talks about crafting the part of Julia, why she almost walked away from acting entirely, and her upcoming role in the Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels.
Vanity Fair: Were you interested in doing a Regency-era project before this? What was your interest level in the genre?
Zawe Ashton: It’s such a good question because it encapsulates both the passion that I have for this style of film, but also the sadness that encapsulates my experience of this genre from an actor’s perspective. There’s been a lock and key around this genre. It’s felt so exclusive for such a long time. So my interest level is high, but it’s always been tinged with a question as to why myself or my contemporaries would never be called to take it up.
You saying there’s been a lock and key around the genre is so apt. But there’s now this wave of very cool, inclusive takes on regencycore, between The Personal History of David Copperfield and Bridgerton—
We love regenycore as a term, don’t we? [Laughs.] My sister introduced me to it and I was like, Yes, I’m going to use this!
It’s so good! I was going to ask if you had been aware of this wave, but clearly you were.
Absolutely! You know, the call for historical accuracy is bent all the time in these period pieces. All the time! Whether it be music or costume or hairstyle or types of language, or even the score. Some of those instruments didn’t exist yet. There’s been this lie that you are sitting down to watch a documentary every time there’s a period piece on and that’s just very much not true. You’re sometimes watching actors from America or Australia portray British monarchs. And yet, the historical factuality is really called into play when we’re suddenly trying to inject the genre with people of color.
As soon as I saw Jodie Turner-Smith on a 50-foot poster as Anne Boleyn [in the 2021 miniseries Anne Boleyn], I was like, Yes! Something internally releases. I can’t necessarily put my finger on what that is, but it’s a feeling of expansion.
As a Black woman, I know that feeling you’re talking about. And now you’re a part of this new wave.
And also, I’m an antagonist in this movie. I love that! It’s not me knocking on the door with a bonnet, or serving the tea. I’m driving the antagonistic element of that storyline, with two other people of color in proximity as the romantic protagonists of the movie. And that, to me, is where our film is popping off.
You mentioned previously that you had a really short amount of time to lock into character. Where do you start in your prep process to become Julia?
I arrived in Ireland two weeks before the movie started. That was two weeks in quarantine in Dublin, the fair city that was so good to us. I had to dive straight in and find the recognizable parts of this character that I could imbue with truth and meaning from my own emotional store. She’s someone who’s four seasons without a match. Early on, Emma and I talked about, is she the Regency Bridget Jones? This is a really interesting place to find a single woman.
Once I’d started to build her emotional world, there was the period to contend with. I started to read Jane Austen’s letters. They just opened the door into the reality of a high society woman at this period of time. But that wasn’t satisfying me on a real gut level…. I realized I’ve been so saturated with period dramas with people who don’t look like me. I [was] like, Am I trying to embody something that is culturally not specific to me? Am I essentially trying to play this as a white actor that I’ve seen in a movie? That was a big question to come up against. I’d had an experience at drama school when we were doing farce—which is a wonderful era of theater, of course—but it was in this really terrible scenario. There were seven people of color in my year at drama school, and we were told that we all needed to think of ourselves as white in order to partake. Moments like that are so deeply fracturing and scarring. There was suddenly this big knot that I needed to work through that had accumulated in my gut and in my heart. I started to just read the character aloud and do my physical work with the help of a wonderful historian. I started to do my vocal work on with the help of a wonderful dialect coach. And the more I started to physically embody, [the more] I was like, This is an immigrant story. This is how I feel in my moments of having to assimilate to a dominant culture.
I can see that as a layer of the character.
Yeah. That’s when I started to come alive and I knew I could imbue lines with something that gutturally felt completely connected.
I don’t want to put words in your mouth, but that seems healing for yourself, especially your past self in drama school.
It was extremely healing. I spent a lot of that lockdown crying, in a good way. I was messaging Freida like, Are you getting this? This is therapy! We had wonderful conversations. Like, look, I’m a biracial woman in this, you’re an Indian woman—what are we really drawing from here? I was like, let’s put Pride and Prejudice and the machinations of that to the side for a second. I brought to the table my love of Bollywood movies that we can think about as inspiration. There are these epic movies of marrying out of your class. This is already in our lineage. We didn’t need to watch it in a Jane Austen-inspired way in order to understand, but reconnecting with that was a real unstitching.
It’s a powerful reframing as well.
A true reconnection. And I’m so aware that some of my Caucasian contemporaries can have these conversations and just talk about the joy of wearing bonnet. [Laughs.] I can also talk about that! Because I had immense joy putting the bonnet on.
I mean, she’s Regency Bridget Jones! There’s levels here.
Yeah! I was living my ideal rom-com life here as well, you know? There’s so many intersections in this film.
You’re also in the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel. Can you talk about what it was like joining the Marvel universe, and if you had any preconceived notions that were either dispelled or affirmed about it?
I’m still terrified to say anything because I didn’t even know [the casting news] had come out! I’m in such a bubble. [But] first and foremost, where these films [Mr. Malcolm’s List and Captain Marvel] are twinned is that I had been moving away from acting for a while. I didn’t see the pendulum swinging hard enough and thought my time can be better spent behind a computer or potentially behind a camera. I went unrepresented for a while. While I was on Broadway, I really cleared the decks. I needed to reenter the business in a very new way. I [told] my team that I wanted to be of service to first-time female directors. Specifically, first-time female directors of color. Don’t throw me into a bunch of auditions. Set me up with Zooms where I can understand how I, in the sea of people that they might want to choose, can help to understand them or enable them.
One of the first people that I was set up on a Zoom with was Nia DaCosta, and we vibed really hard. Actually, we really geeked out on Jane Austen and Persuasion. She’s such an unbelievably intellectual and intelligent woman. I’d loved Little Woods, her first film, and knew that she had Candyman coming up. We signed off after a couple of hours going, Let’s do something, even if it costs like five [cents] to make. Then [later] she called and asked if I would do her new movie. I was like, yeah, absolutely! Where are we [going]? In the backwaters of somewhere? How small is the budget? And it was this follow-up to Captain Marvel, which had not been on my radar at all. [Laughs.] The expectation was just to fulfill Nia’s vision. I honestly have had the best time doing it. I genuinely have. My respect for everyone involved in these movies has gone through the roof, in a very nuanced way.
I love the intention of working with female directors. Now you have back-to-back projects with them, between Emma and Nia.
I love the idea of being part of the formative experiences of anyone who’s lingered in the margins and is stepping into these spaces. We’re aware of how wrong and abusive these spaces have been for people in the margins for a very, very long time. You can show someone at the beginning of their career that it doesn’t have to be like that. You can help someone develop their relationship to the culture of filmmaking. It’s hard work. But it never needs to be detrimental to your physical or mental health.
Was there anyone like that for you at the start of your career?
No, there wasn’t. That’s why I want to be that!
What was so brilliant about seeing Regé-Jean Page in Bridgerton was that he’d had a non-speaking role years ago on a show I did called Fresh Meat. He won’t mind me saying this but we just fell into conversation. I could tell that he was a hard worker. I could just tell. I was out of drama school and had been in a very disempowered place for a very long time because of that institution and, subsequently, the institution of film and television-making. And I just said, look, let’s swap numbers. Update me with where you’re going. He did, and I think I was one of the first people to write a visa recommendation letter for him when he wanted to move to the states. Ten-plus years later, we ended up next to each other at a dinner for BAFTA. And I just said, I’m so proud of you. And he was like, Thanks for being there at the beginning. That’s what happens if you give someone an hour of your time, or some kind of cushion. You go away and forget about it, and then you turn on Netflix and there they are in their most empowered state.
You influenced part of the trajectory of his career.
As soon as I saw him at the dinner, I was like I’m here to take full responsibility for everything that’s happening in your life. [Laughs.]
You’re like, “You know Regé Jean-Page? That’s all me.”
That’s all me! [Laughs.] Oh, dear.
But it is really, really wonderful to have these two films with that intentionality running through them both. That makes them feel successful ahead of premieres and whatever comes next. (x)

A Defence of RentheKing
Before I begin I would like to clarify that I am purely playing devil’s advocate here, I in no way endorse tyrannical monarchies.
The general perception of King Ren is that he is an evil force which needs to be defeated, else he will drive the kingdom to ruin. While, I don’t agree with everything he has done, I also think we should look at his reign with more nuance. I will divide the post into two parts: Pre-party and Post-party, since I think his actions in these two eras are very distinct and at different levels of defendibility.
Before the Xisuma party, King Ren’s actions were basically as close to perfect as a monarch can be (still not very close but that’s beside the point). His decision to introduce a 100% wealth tax on funds over 64 diamonds was neccesary to end both the diamond-tower based inflation of the servers economy and the growing inequality between hermits. The diamonds were (mostly) put to good use in funding the most impressive part of the King’s plan- Royal Quests. These quests had several incredibly important functions: Introducing a purely meritocratic method of wealth redistribution; Encouraging the hermits to become more involved with improving the kingdom (which they did to a great extent) and slowing reintroducing diamonds back into the economy at a controlled, inflation friendly rate. I cannot overstate how impressive and effective this system has been, and without the existence of rebels and trouble-makers, it could have easily continued in this positive direction. The only issues I can see with Ren’s leadership in this era is the embezzlement of government funds which, while very problematic, is also unfortunately the norm for most modern leaders; and the mass claiming as shops, which I choose to view as the king reminding his often excessively libertarian citizens that his government reserves the right to intervene in the economy for its protection.
Now onto the hard part of my task.
I think it's important to clarify just how criminal the Xisuma costume party was. It is functionally the equivalent of a group of annoyed libertarians in disguise breaking into a government building; holding a disruptive party; and stealing almost all the nation’s wealth. It is unacceptable, especially considering the soup group followed it up with an act of unneccesary vandalism- of an important government building no less, so I think it was understandable that the king, faced with a rebellion and a simultaneous independence movement, would decide to make some drastic changes. Now, I will concede that the king possibly went a bit too far in this regard, however you can definitely see the thought process for most of them. The introduction of a new currency is a common last resort for nations facing great economic turmoil, such as Germany introducing a new currency after hyperinflation destroyed their old one. The demand not to party was drastic, but it’s clear he was just trying to prevent another mass robbery. The ban of AFKing actually is inline with his previous goals of reducing inequality, since it prevents hermits with megafarms amassing huge amounts of resources. The demand to only eat gigapies, the ban on diamond mining and the insistence on using diamonds to buy gigacorp products: I can’t really defend this, its a very bad mix of corruption and shortsightedness from the king that is bound to end badly. Still, even a great leader makes mistakes.
I hope you enjoyed this post on RentheKing- it took almost 40 minutes to write and I don’t know why I bothered- nobody’s going to be convinced by this glorified shitpost

__________________________________________________________
Overall, it was a good episode. I was worried with the time travel, but I would say this episode handled it the best. Alix and Chat noir got a lot of shine, and the episode ACTUALLY REMEMBERS the consequences of multiple miraculous use. Good to know
I give this an 9 out of 10
I think there could have been more, but Alix really got a lot of development and I know we wont see her for some time which does stink. But hey, It has a lot of good and I think the pacing was decent.

JLB Miraculous Reviews: S5E1 Evolution
(Obvious Spoilers for Miraculous Season 5)
Tumblr media
Well, this is my first time doing this. For those who aren't familiar with my blog (that being the case, a warm welcome to you), I'm that one guy who makes Miraculous characters realistic using Artbreeder lately. And I'm planning to do other things at the moment. Since the first episode of the fifth season of Miraculous has already been released about almost a week ago, I figured that I should make a review about this episode. I might also make reviews of the other episodes this season if I have the time to do so. I would probably make a review of "Multiplication" since it has already been released earlier today.
This episode follows the events of the Season 4 finale. After having almost all of the Miraculouses in his reach, Gabriel turns into Monarch (we'll talk about his... design later). He uses the Rabbit Miraculous to return to a moment in past Ladybug and Cat Noir's time to capture their Miraculous. Unfortunately, he somehow screws up even though he has literally EVERY MIRACULOUS IN HIS REACH (plotholes at it's finest, isn't it?)
And with that, let's dive into Evolution: the first episode of Miraculous Season 5.
The episode starts off where the Season 4 finale ended, with Ladybug and Cat Noir observing as the people of Paris cheer for them and preparing to face the new villain, Monarch. Monarch threatens to attack Paris ruthlessly unless they give Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses. Despite this, the Parisians still supports them and boos at Monarch while throwing stones at him, even though according to the show itself, she's to blame for Gabriel's supposed victory and not you know, the one who betrayed her? Because it's apparently one of the show's rules that Marinette makes a mistake in each episode, no matter how unrelated it is to her.
Tumblr media
Huh, I wonder what "mistake" she will make in this episode.
Ladybug and Cat Noir destroys the shield containing the illusion message retriever with ease. Funny, I thought there would be some kind of intense fight between the duo and Monarch that would show how powerful he is now. But I guess they're still as strong as ever seeing how easily they got rid of his illusion.
Ladybug thanks Cat Noir and he reiterates how it's just the two of them now.
We then go to Gabriel doing his usual thing, talking to his about to be dead wife. The next scene goes back and forth between Gabriel and the heroes. When Gabriel tells her that their victory is almost complete as he has got almost all the miraculouses, Ladybug assures the people of Paris that Monarch's victory will never be complete. When Gabriel silences Sass, Ladybug and Cat Noir says they'll never be silenced. When Ladybug and Cat Noir says they won't be prisoners of Monarch, Gabriel makes it clear to the Kwamis that they're his slaves.
Gabriel then makes a great plan using the Rabbit Miraculous to go back in time and defeat the heroes at their more vulnerable state. He fuses it with the Butterfly Miraculous to transform himself into Monarch.
Tumblr media
I... have no words. What the hell is this supposed to be? Just when I thought that I would get over Shadow Moth and Shadow Noir's horrible designs, the animators decided to bring me this. What were they thinking! Why does he look like he's naked without that vest thing on his chest? Why do his weapons change color when his Miraculouses don't? Why is his hair white? Why is his skin purple? He can't even pull of unnatural skin colors, unlike Mayura, as his looks hideous! He looks like as if Thanos joined the biker gang and suffered from sleep deprivation. Keep in mind, this is supposedly Gabriel at his strongest form. The only good thing that I can say about his costume is that the mosaic thing on his vest looks cool. But other than that, this is definitely not an improvement from the atrocious designs he had last season! Seriously though, how is this guy a so-called fashion designer?
Just when Ladybug starts to tell Cat Noir the possible reason of the loss of the Miraculouses, Monarch stumbles through a time portal. They notice the portal opening, from which Rabbit Noir and Ladybug from a few minutes to the future are chasing Monarch who is seemingly getting weaker using multiple miraculouses at the same time. Another portal opens from which Bunnyx, the Rabbit Miraculous holder of the future, warns Ladybug and Cat Noir of the present about Monarch possibly ruining the spacetime continuum. Trust me, it gets a lot more confusing as the episode goes on. Bear with me on this.
Seriously though, as soon as Monarch is inside the Burrow, he literally enters in the events of Lady Wifi without even having a second thought! He didn't even try to be elusive and use the Miraculouses as a way to avoid corrupting time itself (Fox Miraculous, Rooster Miraculous). Doesn't he know that just a minutes change in the past can have drastic effects in the future? And this is folks, why time travel should've never been introduced in this show at the first place!
The heroes are even worse! I'm not even joking when I say that literally everyone was dumbed down so that the plot wouldn't end in one episode! Instead of taking them back to the time were Félix was about to fetch Ladybug's yo-yo, she takes them to stop Monarch from taking Ladybug's Miraculous in Lady Wifi's time. Ladybug ties up Monarch with her yo-yo but instead of taking all the Miraculouses back, they... explain to him how Bunnyx's powers work and say that they're going to defeat him... Which gives Monarch the opportunity to unify the Fox, Bee and Turtle Miraculous to escape, conjure Mirage of Monarch clones to distract the heroes, paralyze Bunnyx with Venom and trap her in a Shell-ter. God, can you imagine how STUPID this scene sounds?
Tumblr media
Not trying to salt on them though, this is the result of ridiculous plot armor. Thank you, writers.
Cat Noir uses Cataclysm to break Shell-ter while Ladybug ties up Monarch again, but Monarch uses Wind Dragon to escape through a portal.
Since future Alix is suffering a magical stroke at the moment, Cat Noir takes the Rabbit Miraculous from her and gives it to Ladybug for her to fuse. Instead of using it herself, Ladybug offers it to him.
It is an admittedly nice scene showcasing Ladybug's trust in Cat Noir. I like the idea of her trusting him something as big as this. It's definitely a far cry from her UNINTENTIONALLY keeping him in the dark last season. Granted, it does kinda give a weird feeling how Ladybug's first step in putting trust in Cat Noir is through entrusting him the most powerful and dangerous Miraculous in such a dire situation where she herself can use it. With that said, I still love that Ladybug is starting to let Cat Noir in with the much bigger responsibilities.
Cat Noir then fuses himself with the Rabbit Miraculous, transforming into Rabbit Noir.
Tumblr media
Rabbit Noir has a very cute and adorable unification design I'm happy that he isn't bald again. The teal lightings in his costume goes perfectly with the black bodysuit. The rabbit ears and tail fits well with the costume. While I think that they could've added more flare fluff to his look, I'm fine with the simple aesthetic as it doesn't feel like there's too many things happening at once. In other words, Rabbit Noir is amazing and isn't like the atrocity that is Pennybug (she has a good hairstyle though).
Rabbit Noir uses his powers to follow Monarch to the Riposte timeline. Monarch plans to ambush a vulnerable past Cat Noir but fails because he is suffering from wearing too much Miraculouses. Ladybug and Rabbit Noir catches up but Monarch jumps into the Heroes Day timeline. It's funny how past Ladybug, Cat Noir and Riposte didn't see what's happening behind them. Monarch tries to surprise attack a de-transformed past Ladybug and Cat Noir in the sewers, but present Ladybug and Rabbit Noir prevents him. They knock him down the Animan timeline, where Alya and Nino had their possible first kiss.
Tumblr media
Interesting.
Anyway, Monarch stumbles through the events of the start of the episode. Rabbit Noir and Ladybug catch up and chase Monarch who is seemingly getting weaker using multiple miraculouses at the same time. Deja vu, am I right?
Monarch travels to the Nazi occupation of Paris in World War II while Rabbit Noir and Ladybug catch up. Monarch unifies the Dog Miraculous and tags his Rabbit Miraculous with his ball in an attempt to Fetch it if the heroes ever got hold of it. But because he's been wearing too many Miraculouses, he collapses to the ground.
And instead of doing the obvious and you know, taking the chance and get all the Miraculouses back while he's still unconscious, they managed to do something even dumber. THEY STOOD THEIR SHOCKED FOR A FEW SECONDS, TOOK ONLY THE RABBIT FROM HIM AND GOT DISTRACTED BY PAST FU AND MARIANNE RUNNING AWAY FROM THE NAZIS, GIVING MONARCH THE CHANCE TO GAIN CONSCIOUSNESS AGAIN TO FETCH THE RABBIT MIRACULOUS AND ESCAPE.
Just... why. This is the one of the problems I have with this episode. Ladybug and Cat Noir have been represented with so many opportunities where they could've gotten the Miraculouses back as Monarch gets weaker and weaker and guess what? They still manage to screw up those chances! If this is the way the writers are trying to show that Monarch is so powerful and formidable, then they're clearly not doing their job very well. This is not the way in making a villain formidable! This is just adding more plot armor to the already heavy plot armored show. Dumbing down characters won't make other characters shine. This is just Lila Rossi all over again. God, imagine the salt fics that would transpire from this. Stop giving them ammo, Marinette and Adrien!
Ladybug then used her Lucky Charm, gaining a box that is used for storing one Miraculous. This is the same Lucky Charm that was failed to be utilized in the Season 2 finale. Ladybug then spots the Miracle Box past Fu has.
On the other hand, Monarch travels down to the Reverser timeline and sees past Ladybug and Cat Noir at the Eiffel Tower getting of a taxi while under the effects of the akumatized villain. Monarch tries to ambush them but is forced to de-transform due to his weakened state. Sass warns him that Kwamis need to eat or otherwise they and their powers become weak. If he destroys the Kwamis in the process, he will destroy himself too. So Monarch has no choice but to travel back to the time where he is about to start his plan and walks up to Nathalie, while still on the train with Lila. He asks her to give the Kwamis food.
Ladybug and Rabbit Noir pull Past Fu to an alleyway after he and Marianne separates ways. They explain to him why they're here and that they need a Miraculous. Past Fu surprisingly goes along with this and gives her the Dog Miraculous, even though he explains to Marianne that he doesn't want to fight the Nazis using the Miraculouses in Backwarder. She promises that she'll return it to him as soon as possible so that the timeline won't go bananas.
Back in the present, Alix, who is surprisingly absent last season, and her father Alim have an interesting conversation about her future (it is revealed that Alix wants to take engineering after she graduates). Ladybug and Rabbit Noir then show up to give Alix the Dog Miraculous meaning Sabrina got replaced again. She also says that once Alix gets the Rabbit Miraculous back, she will have to leave her family and friends behind to watch over the timeline (meaning she'll probably be absent again for most of the season). Alim is actually okay with this because future Alix wrote letters for him to not get worried. After a wholesome moment between the father and the daughter that Adrien would probably not get to experience with his own father, Alix takes the Dog Miraculous and transforms into Canigirl.
Tumblr media
And...OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS DESIGN. It's absolutely better than what we got from Miss Hound and Flairmidable. The color scheme is appealing to look at. The cap she is wearing is cute and definitely suits her better than Miss Hound. The mask is also quite adorable and makes her blue eyes pop. And to be honest, Canigirl fits Alix's personality more than Bunnyx.
The three then go inside the Burrow, with Canigirl saying her farewells to her father. Rabbit Noir opens a portal to the past for Canigirl to tag Monarch's Rabbit Miraculous before he himself does. Ladybug leaves the Miraculous box in the burrow as a trap for Monarch. They then go into the frozen Eiffel Tower scene in the Heroes Day timeline discreetly.
While Nathalie is feeding the Kwamis, she advices Gabriel that there is another obvious way to use the Rabbit Miraculous. He can go back in time and prevent Emilie from ever getting sick from using the broken Peacock Miraculous in the first place by giving his past self a flash drive with the information needed to repair it.
Gabriel transforms into Monarch again and plans to travel back to the night he gave Emilie the Peacock Miraculous. Unfortunately, he gets distracted by Ladybug's trap box, because this show's plot armor is as thick as the mantle of the Earth. The only reason he didn't put the flash drive on the picnic blanket is because if he did, then the show would be over then.
Because his IQ is that of a brick, he falls for Ladybug's trap and travels to the Heroes Day timeline, planning to ambush their past selves. Unluckily for him, Canigirl uses Fetch and takes his Rabbit Miraculous, unifying the two Miraculouses she has.
Tumblr media
And just like Rabbit Noir, [Insert Alix Dog+Rabbit Unification Name]'s design is also cute and adorable. Though I kinda wish they gave her more fluff. Petition To Give Rabbit Miraculous Holders Fluffier Costumes.
Monarch uses Fetch as well but Alix uses Burrow to escape. And even though he doesn't have time travelling powers now, Rabbit Noir and Ladybug still do nothing! They don't even try to fight him nor take any of the Miraculouses. They literally just... left him there, unaware of the major things that he could do in the past (yes, they brought him back but that still doesn't explain why they would even abandon him there in the first place).
Ladybug uses Miraculous Ladybug, healing Future Alix. Rabbit Noir gives to Future Alix her Future Rabbit Miraculous while Present Alix plans of giving Ladybug back the Present Rabbit Miraculous. But, Ladybug tells Present Alix that it's her time. She then transforms into Bunnyx.
Tumblr media
Like Future Bunnyx, Present Bunnyx looks great. I like that her reddish pink hair contrasts well with the arctic blue and white costume. Although like I said, Canigirl definitely fits her personality more than Bunnyx. Also lack of fluff :(
Present Bunnyx gives Past Fu back the Dog Miraculous and takes a selfie with him while Future Bunnyx brings Monarch back to the present. Ladybug ties him up again and guess what? They fail to get the Miraculouses and Monarch escapes again through Wind Dragon. Ladybug is obviously unhappy that they managed to let Monarch escape again. Cat Noir reassures Ladybug by saying that they still got the Rabbit Miraculous but she says at what cost.
Look, just how incompetent can you two be? You literally have Monarch at your mercy and still manage to screw things up? For the love of God, AT NO COST! SINCE HE SAYS THAT YOU GOT THE RABBIT NOW, WHAT'S STOPPING YOU TWO FROM GOING BACK IN TIME TO PREVENT ALL OF THIS?! ARE THE WRITERS REALLY TRYING TO DIG UP THE DEEPEST PLOTHOLE IN HISTORY?!?!
And as usual, Garbage- I mean Gabriel talks to his wife again about how he lost and how it's all Ladybug's fault even though the both of them are so incompetent with what they're doing. Even Nathalie is fed up with his bullshit and tells him that he is crazy and that he doesn't deserve her help.
Tumblr media
YEAH TELL HIM NATHALIE! You can’t imagine the huge smile I had on my face watching this scene unfold. Hearing Nathalie chewing out Gabriel for his incompetence is unironically one of the best parts of the episode for me.
Admittedly, once the satisfaction went away, I did have some major problems with this scene. While Nathalie has every right to call Gabriel out, it's also pretty hypocritical of her since she is just as bad as him. The whole reason she can't even walk properly is because she kept on using the broken Peacock Miraculous even though Gabriel forbade her to. She's one of the people who's willing to help him without question. She really isn't the bigger person between the both of them. But I just hope that unlike Chloé's "redemption" arc and Adrien's promise to let go of his feelings for Ladybug, this moment sticks.
Lila notices Nathalie in a sickly state and approaches her. She just offers to help Nathalie back to her seat, and that’s probably her only appearance in this episode. So much for the lack of Lila screentime last season.
After that, the episode ends, with Gabriel screaming like a baby.
If you ask me, this episode was just okay. I mean, it is good as a season premiere since it offers a lot of action and Alix definitely got the well-deserved screentime she didn't get last season, but the amount of plotholes and plot armor that Monarch has took it lower for me. As much as the execution was horrendous, removing the Rabbit Miraculous from the plot first was definitely a good idea to avoid the future plot contrivances that it can cause. Ladynoir also got some development in this episode and Ladybug is on the start of trusting Cat Noir more, which is good. Nathalie, as much hypocritical her scene was, definitely offers more opportunities in the future now that she isn't onboard with Gabriel's nonsense. RIP to the Gabenath fandom though.
The biggest problem of the episode for me was how Ladybug and Cat Noir were constantly dumbed down so that Monarch couldn't lose in this episode. Even Monarch was dumbed down (bro you literally have the Rooster Miraculous on you) so that he couldn't win either. If this is how things go this season, then it'll probably end with a bitter taste. I just hope the writers resort to better writing and not... create more plotholes and plot armor. This is literally the last season of the current storyline, so they better step up their game!
The time travel shenanigans was also a big part of why the episode is lower for me. A race around time is a good concept but the fact that Monarch and Ladybug didn't even consider to use their respective Rabbit Miraculouses to prevent the events that put them where they are now irks me.
Also, why the heck is Félix not mentioned in this episode, especially since he's the one who caused all of this? And why is Nathalie and Lila still on the train even though Gabriel cancelled the commercial? I guess those questions would be answered in the next episode. I just hope so.
So yeah, I'll rate Evolution about 6.5/10. It's definitely not perfect and has its flaws, but it's not a bad season premiere. I just hope that they improve their writing this season, especially for Garbage- I mean Gabriel Agreste.

👪 ❌ ✨ 🌱 🔮
For Dai and Minah (rip Dai ♥️♥️♥️)
rip dai 😔✌️ // prompts I'd like to receive
[ 👪 ] what is your muse’s relationship with their parents like? was it always this way?
DAI — he doesn't know his mom at all but his relationship with his dad is really good! they pretty much only ever had each other and dai's dad has always been his hero and role model. throughout his training and his posting at the garrison, daichi made a point to keep in touch and write letters, and he's been keeping up with that even through their travels (even though they're more journal entries than proper letters at this point)
MINAH — she had a good relationship with her parents. they had their fights like any family, but they all liked each other and always made a point to support each other as a unified whole, and she was proud to call them her parents. they both passed when she was a teenager, though, so there may be a tinge of rosy nostalgia to her memories
[ ❌ ] is there something your muse struggles with that they might never overcome? what is it? why do they have so much trouble with it?
DAI — being dead he's got a bit of a ~complicated~ relationship with duty and obligation. his sense of responsibility veers close to guilt. a lot of it is a mix of only child and gifted child syndrome, and also probably the trauma of being a kid in a war camp
MINAH — trust issues! she has major trust issues! she had a very very very bad time of things right around the time her parents died and it messed her up reaaaaaaally good. it's been solidly like 10 years since all that happened and she's still very much refusing to deal with any of it so those trust issues sure are sticking around!
[ ✨ ] what aesthetics or symbols do you reference when writing your muse? are these backed up by canon, if your muse comes from a canon? is there any specific relevance to these choices?
DAI — as a cleric of Pelor and oath of the shield paladin, suns and shields feature pretty heavily in his aesthetic. the sky in general, and also light—so, so much light
MINAH — I'm still working her out, and as a warden-to-be there's definitely some grey warden stuff that's probably going to work its way in there, but as an entertainer (and thief) I think masks are going to be a pretty big part of her vibe. also like, ribbons? scraps of fabric and color and pieces of other costumes; things that can be laced and tied and made into pretty clothes but are also torn and ruined things and bindings
[ 🌱 ] what themes are relevant to your muse?
DAI — duty, honor, what it means to be a protector. homecoming and freedom. flight. uhhh hopefully rebirth?
MINAH — we'll see as the campaign goes, but I think trust and masking/unmasking. knowing and being known, that sort of thing. and the heartache of knowing you turned your back on something you can never return to, no matter how hard you try (and trying anyway, even if it's pointless).
[ 🔮 ] what is your muse’s relationship with religion and spirituality? were they raised in a certain religion? have they stuck with the same set of spiritual beliefs all their life, or have they changed over time? are they settled in their spirituality now?
DAI — oh yes my favorite daichi question. dai was raised 100% in the order of Pelor and Selene—his dad was part of a holy army overthrowing a corrupt monarch and he's known members of the religious order since he was a kid. his dad especially was faithful to the order (and its mission and its war), which was a big reason of why daichi joined the order and became a cleric of Pelor in the first place. his travels really shook his faith, and so did his first death, to the degree that he (consciously or not) sought out a different kind of faith and ended up catching the attention of a different god (Tempus, god of war). over the past few months he's really reconciled his faith in the two and reoriented his belief from something innate and expected (as part of the order back home) to something he actively affirms and reaffirms within himself, which he finds to be a truer kind of faith than that of those, say, blindly following the path laid out before them (cough). one thing I can say for sure is that he faced death fully at peace and absolutely certain his sacrifice was the right thing to do in the eyes of himself, his gods and the city at his back.
MINAH — minah was raised staunchly andrastrian and is now staunchly very much opposed to the chantry and its teachings. her parents' deaths pretty much shattered her faith, which was something she was raised in and had never really thought about until her entire world was flipped on its head. that (and her travels) consequently made her far more open-minded about the chantry's usual bullshit about mages and elves and whatnot, so. net win? but yeah no she had a major spiritual change and doesn't believe in the maker and certainly doesn't give a rat's ass about the chantry or the chant or any of the whole institution
