This is just a funny video but it's possible to make maobi brushes from all kinds of hairs, including human hair. In fact some parents would make brushes out of hair cut from their newborn child's hair, called 胎毛笔, and this brush is given to the child to ward off evil.
Usually though the brushes used source their hair from two animals: goats and siberian weasels, and these brushes are called yanghaobi/羊毫笔 (goat-hair) and langhaobi/狼毫笔 ("wolf"-haired; this is probably because siberian weasels are colloquially called 黄鼠狼/"yellow rat wolf") respectively. Brushes that are made with a mix of hairs from these two animals are called jianhaobi/兼毫笔 (兼 means "and"/combination/merge/simultaneous). These are the most common ones. There are also zihaobi/紫毫笔 (purple rabbit-hair brush), jihaobi/鸡毫笔 (chicken down feather brush), shuxubi/鼠须笔 (rat whisker brush), zhuzongbi/猪鬃笔 (boar mane brush), and brushes made from horse hair, deer hair, badger hair, ocelot hair, tiger hair, fox hair, actual wolf hair, goose down feathers, duck down feathers, human beard hair, etc etc etc, these are very very rare nowadays since wild animals are now protected by law.
hc Dazai's gonna survive and after everything has settled he's gonna be like oh nooo this left a scar on my beautiful face who will want me now? Chuuya needs to take responsibility. sign here (it's a marriage certificate)
i have a counter argument to the 'only one person can boop bill' thing, mabel. she's the type of person to slap stickers on people, she would definitely be the type to also boop others occasionally and bill would be no exception. she probably doesn't do it to annoy bill like dipper would, but maybe as a form of a friendly gesture, kind of like those people who will lightly punch friends in the arm when they hang out.
You know what? Good point. Mabel would get away with more than most, as a fun-loving lady! Bill understands those impulses, and being a touchy person! He indulges in similar ones himself.
Though when Bill's not in the mood to be playful and gets booped anyway? The 'sister-in-law' status grants her considerable grace.
i know this is A Reach and possibly nitpicky but i think the prettification of the hunger games movies can be seen even in the small matter of katniss's hairstyle. what's described as a simple and practical braid in the books is now a fancy diagonal over-the-shoulder dutch braid in the movies (a braid that is neither functional when the purpose is to get your long hair out of the way, nor very quick/easy to do on yourself), and added to that is the fact that katniss has bangs, once again something that is very impractical when you consider that katniss hunts for a living and those loose hairs would not only be visually obstructive but would also get caught in the bowstring and yanked like hell every time she shoots. in the training sequence of catching fire you can literally see that the bangs are in her eyes. there's a reason olympic archers always have their hair tied up and tucked out of the way. if she were to have a dutch/french braid, the point of that would literally BE to get those shorter hairs out of the way. but since this is a hollywood movie of course they have to make their star have pretty hair that frames her face just so
AU where Brent is a drone to help out at crime scenes and offer input after Right finds the drone. And basically he befriends the really weird guy possibly controlling the drone but has his doubts as to how human the drone's source can be. So Right and Brent just go around trying to solve crimes while Right just calls the drone "Fuckwad (affectionate)".
watched a video about the unpleasant subtext created by the Velaryons being black in HOTD and had a sudden epiphany:
what if it was the Hightowers who were black in the show
I think that on the surface level it would definitely be cool, the hightowers are an extremely unique and interesting house and I would love to see more diversity in ASOIAF. However, the showrunners would also have to handle that with a kind of care that they clearly did not demonstrate with the Velaryons either.
Could you imagine how much worse the already nasty fandom discourse about how Alicent‘s children aren’t true Targaryens because of her would be if they were Black? or the victimblaming and hypersexualization of 15 year old Alicent that we already see in the fandom. or anything with how they characterized aegon, really. The narrative casts Alicent as this outsider to the Targaryen’s and Velaryons, but that narrative element would take a distinctly racial (and racist) tone if the Hightowers were the only Black nobles.
If they cast the greens (and I’m including Criston here) as the only people of color in the show who are positioned as villainous scheming upjumped usurpers against team black which would then be all very white good guy Valyrians who go on and on about blood purity that would definitely be communicating something pretty bad.
None of this is to say that it couldn’t work or that there’s anything that would prevent the hightowers from being Black in canon. but I am saying that the showrunners would have to put a lot of thought into it to avoid problematic elements or making the narrative extremely racist. And based on how they have handled the Black Velaryons and how the narrative marginalized them so far for the development of white characters, I don’t think that they would be able to pull it off well.
if you think about it, orv is an isekai that completely turns isekai concepts on its head.
one of the main goals of (crappy) isekai is wish-fulfillment-- it’s really easy to insert yourself into the mc’s position and imagine that you’re currently the one inserted into this new world as its op protagonist. and at first, orv seems to follow this basic trope-- kdj’s favorite novel comes to life around him and he’s literally turned from an average office worker to the most knowledgeable being in the world in mere minutes. you can see how it’s similar to a lot of other isekai expositions, and how it could be easy to make kdj a self-insert for a lot of readers.
and then as you dive deeper into the novel, it becomes clear that wish-fulfillment is not one of orv’s goals. kdj is a very unique character with an interesting backstory from before the transition to the new world, something most isekai mcs don’t have or don’t dwell on too much. the lack of backstories from their life in the old world is too make sure not to throw off the immersion of the reader into the mc for that maximum wish fulfillment. but kdj has ppl from before and backstories from before that impact him a lot and make it clear that orv is not that kind of isekai. it’s harder for him to be that sort of blank slate wish fulfillment type of character because of his unique past and motivations.
and of course, this all flips on its head again as you discover that, yeah it’s not wish fulfillment for you, but it was all kdj’s wishes coming true for him. it’s an isekai inside of an isekai, in a way. it’s an isekai wish-fulfillment self-insert fanfic not for you, but for kim dokja. which is already a pretty insane concept, but of course orv takes it even further after that.
because in the very end, the story expands from kdj’s world to the oldest dream’s world to the readers’ world, making the ending a literal wish-fulfilling conclusion that brings the readers’ wishes for kdj’s revival to life.
like orv is actually insane for pulling all that off.
not trying to add to the noise about ai art or w/e but artists of all media are already undervalued and under-compensated enough as it is & unless you learn and understand this very quickly you will not be seeing the gates of heaven
house of leaves is so incredible to me because i don't think you could ever completley adapt it into something like a movie or a tv show or a play or even a game. myhouse.wad is the closest from what i know, but that's more so based on 1. the horror of an endless house where you are so unbelievably tiny in the grand scheme of it. and 2. johnny truants no good very bad terrible breakdown (in the form of diary entries from steve nelson.) but. house of leaves is a book, and an essay first and foremost and i think the footnotes and the WAY the book is written is at the very least, INCREDIBLY difficult to translate into a visual media like film, tv, etc.
When will someone finally write a post-canon fic where Ling and Lan Fan actually grow closer together after he becomes Emperor because the Court is a den of snakes and they can only trust each other and Lan Fan becomes Ling's ghost advisor and rumours spread that to win the Emperor's favor you must first win over his Shadow?
