still maintaining my promise of getting back to Mel Yell polls! and reviews! and art! and a general sense of normalcy! i had a blast during my trip to LA and then immediately came home to get my ass whooped by a bad cold after i spent last Sunday bedridden with a stomach bug!! the universe does not want me to shill cartoons. but i will. and i swear to answer all my asks. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE

Spruced up an old doodle seeing as today is a national holiday—the 86th birthday of my favorite character of all time! I love this screwball, impassioned, entitled, greedy, congenial, versatile, hysterical, smarmy, oblivious, charismatic, craven, crazy, darn-fool duck!

i’m unsure how many remember this, BUT! back in 2019 i was the lead in our school’s production of The Music Man. when i was a freshman, i offhandedly asked my director if we could do it, and so she did it just for my senior year—i of course watched the 1962 movie obsessively, literally dozens of times and YADDA YADDA YADDA the movie means a lot to me and i blogged about it a lot so some may remember. we had a performance on this day five years ago!

WHERE I’M GOING WITH THIS IS: i got to see a trombone, a hat and the prop suitcase from the movie at the WB Studio tour so that was monumentally amazing and sentimental. so HUZZAH! i’m very lucky to have as many “fortunate follow-up stories” as i do

I’m so glad you got to talk about Lazlo with Tom! I used to love your posts on the “no context Lazlo” Twitter page and I’m so happy that you’ve made it! What was your interaction with Mr. Lawrence like?

AWWWWWW I’M SO HAPPY YOU REMEMBER THAT YEAH!! i had so much fun running that! it was great to spread the Lazlo love even further

AAAAND: WONDERFUL! i met him for the first time at last year’s wrap party, and he remembered me (and remembered him giving me his “autograph”—unused nametag—which i told him i would sell on ebay!) which was AHHH so cool! we actually got there before doors open, and there were just a handful of us waiting, including him, and so it was very nice to banter with him and kinda crack jokes (such as him praising my friend Jen’s Rocko’s Modern Life shirt to which i said “i think i detect a hint of bias”) HAHA

BUT YES! later on i kinda let the fan in me slip a little more, asking stuff like what his favorite shows were to work on as a cartoonist (since he can draw too!!) or if he’s had a favorite voice he’s done and it was just really great to be able to hang out with him! he also said he likes LTC which of course made me happy. but yeah we got to chat about cartoons, as one does, make jokes and just talk!! the voice actors are all immensely cool people and very casual and fun to talk with. Bill Fagerbakke was telling us how much he respects and admires us for our work and said that it’s great that people who grew up with the show now work on it!! it was incredibly humbling all around. i’m really looking forward to the next wrap parties ahead to see and mingle with them more!

i also got to see treasure troves of beautiful animation history (one of which is currently in my backpack waiting to fly back home with me… very excited to show it off) at the WB Studio Tour and Van Eaton Galleries! genuinely surreal that, in the case of the Popeye and Flip the Frog drawings, i was holding 90+ year old art. highly highly highly recommend folks visit VEG if you’re ever in LA, the staff is incredibly friendly

KAMP KORAL SEASON 2 WRAP PARTY!!! once again my gratitude exceeds the language barrier. incredibly grateful for the amazingly talented and KIND and personable crew i work with, very thankful for Tom Kenny, Doug Lawrence, and Bill Fagerbakke letting me talk their ears off (Tom was showing off my shirt to Bill!!) and just. MAN! i am so glad to be doing what i’m doing. i also learned a very important lesson: there is a reason why i’m a cartoonist and not a professional bowler

last night i got to tell Tom Kenny how much i loved his work in Camp Lazlo and how Lumpus and Slimkman are still some of my all time favorites and he told me both “you rock” and “you just like any show that has ‘Camp’ in the name” (we were there for our Kamp Koral s2 wrap party). and of course i did the same to Doug Lawrence with Edward. truly a life goal achieved

I’M GLAD EVERYONE PICKED UP ON THAT LOL. that’s very much why i got him, his neck is incredibly flimsy so it looks like he broke his neck at all times. all i could think of when i saw it was this and i knew i needed him. (that and it’s absolutely criminal i never had a plush of him before)
