The Decline of Western Civilizaton part I, The Decline of western Civilization part II: The Metal Years, The Decline of Western Civilization part III
If you are a fan of music (70s punk, heavy/glam metal, and the sadness that is the 90s gutter punk) you can watch the whole documentary series of The Decline of Western Civilization parts I-III free on Tubi Tv.
You know how Gerard said being in MCR allowed him to explore his gender? I think about that a lot, especially since I recently started getting in Visual Kei. I think that might be a reason Visual Kei is a thing and still as big as ever, since sadly, being queer is so much less accepted in Japan.
decade accurate marauders era wardrobes - sirius black
hair: black, wavy, and shoulder length.
while long hair for both women and men was popular in the 70s, the trend carried over from the later years of the 60s.
the 1960s was a decade characterized by youth rebellion and societal revolution. the decade was rife with countercultural movements such as racial equality, women's liberation, and queer rights. pushed largely by baby boomers, the young people of the 60s rejected the conservative values of their parents and the generations before them and instead valued equality, individuality, and self-expression. these values inspired the fashion of the 60s, which is why later 60s fashion trends consist of brighter colors, shorter hemlines, non-western influences, and long hair on men.
i'm not sure if sirius having long hair while he was younger is canon, but even if not it makes sense for his character. sirius practically embodies the larger societal reckonings of the time as he struggles with separating himself from his long, bigoted family history and subverts the expectations for him by actively fighting against it and carving out his own self image free from his familial legacy.
clothes: consist mainly of blacks, purples, reds, and silvers. leather, velvet, furs, and fishnets. ripped tops, colored pants, slogan tees, and a copious amount of band t-shirts.
glam rock is a british fashion subculture that emerged in the early 70s and was pioneered by various musicians such as marc bolan and david bowie. glam rock fashion allowed participants to play with gender norms with the men wearing typically "flamboyant" feminine clothing made with velvets, silks, furs, and glitter.
punk rock is also a british fashion subculture that came about in the mid 70. although having its roots in glam rock, punk rock visually seems like the exact opposite with its fashion pieces consisting of leather pants and jackets, combat boots, altered t-shirts, and body modifications such as tattoos and piercings.
for the longest time i haven't been able to choose between whether i think sirius would dress glam or punk. i think he'd like certain elements of both so i tried my best to combine them together.
he'd love t-shirts. they seem common today but before the 60s they were worn as underwear. during this decade t-shirt printing became easier and more accessible, and thus began the trend that was the slogan tee. you could get t-shirts with almost anything printed on them, short phrases, crude jokes, and band logos.
shoes: platform shoes, combat boots, and converse.
platforms platforms platforms
combat boots, specifically doc martens, were a staple in punk fashion
the converse are for casual wear
accessories: motorcycle gloves, star shaped belt buckle, buttons, patches, and sunglasses.
i couldn't find any good pictures or an actual belt that i liked but i feel sirius would love statement belts with a big buckle that has some sort of design on it
the patches and pins are for his infamous leather jacket™ i'm pretty sure his leather jacket isn't canon but it might as well be anyways 🤷🏿♀️
One thing that really frustrates me about Viv's work is how she handles her villains. She has a love for wacky/Saturday morning cartoon villains, which, fair- I admit I like them too. But the issue is ALL of her villains are this- all of her villains are either goofy Saturday morning cartoons or complete idiots, neither of which end up posing an actual threat to the cast. Like, seriously- let me go through every villain in Hazbin/Helluva so far.
Stella: Treated as incompetent by the narrative
Robo-Fizz: Dead
Verosika: barely even a villain- if anything she's more just a rival
CHERUB: Kicked out of Heaven in their first appearance so they can't be a threat to IMP, and they haven't shown up since their first episode
DHORKS: Same as CHERUB- portrayed as incompetent and haven't shown up since Season 1
Striker: WAS an actual decent threat in Harvest Moon Festival....but then Western Energy ruined him and made him into another dick joke vehicle.
Fizzarolli: an actually decent rival to Blitzo in Ozzie's, but he needed WAY more episodes before hitting the big emotional arc in Oops and hasn't been portrayed as a villain since Ozzie's
Asmodeus: same as fizz- seemed intimidating at first, but he hasn't really....been portrayed as a bad guy since Ozzie's.
Chaz: Joke villain who's just a more annoying Blitzo and he's dead now so
Crimson: Had the POTENTIAL to maybe be a threat, but was already treated awfully in his debut episode, and was handled even worse in Oops
Andrealphus: Introduced out of NOWHERE and has barely done anything/we've had no time to absorb him as a threat
Barbie Wire: RIDICULOUSLY flat and oh yea is an Actual Predator for the sake of a bad joke
Glitz and Glam: ....why do they exist again?
Mammon: an ACTUAL THREAT AGAIN, but even THEN he's still portrayed as goofy/incompetent
As for Hazbin's villains...
Lucifer: Goofy Dad
Vox: Goofy Villain
Valentino: Goofy Villain Who's Also An Actual Rapist
Velvette: ....does she even count?
Adam: Annoying Dickhead Fratboy who's more irritating than intimidating
Lute: Honestly the most potential of anyone here but she's still pretty boring
The issue is Viv wants all her villains to be Team Rocket, but she forgets that Team Rocket was Never Taken Seriously. Minus the Unova anime, When it came time for a serious threat, there was always a new villain introduced for the movie! They knew they couldn't have proper stakes with them as the main baddies, so they weren't! Viv just doesn't understand that you can't have all your villains be Jessie and James if you're trying to go for a serious story like she is.
As a former dancer myself who's done a chair dance, I respect and feel a kinship towards Taylor challenging herself with more intricate and highly choreographed numbers on this tour. It's even more impressive when you consider that the number appears on the tour's final section of a three hour show.
The fringe on this midnight blue bodysuit drips beautifully over her hips here and plays multiple roles. Serving to mimic raindrops for "Midnight Rain", a fun twirly moment worthy of strutting and spinning during "Bejeweled", and to add a sensual tasseled burlesque feel during that aforementioned chair dance of "Vigilante Shit". Plus it also feels kind of cheeky western glam.
