The feeling grew as the movie started. Robin and Eddie, taking their roles as film critics seriously, talked about the techniques being used and made comments throughout. Nancy told them to hush many times, but they ignored her. It wasn't until one of the female characters had her shirt ripped open, causing her bare chest to be on display, that caused silence to occur. You hardly even noticed the movie ending. You couldn't even remember the plot. You nodded at the discussion Eddie had started, trying to make it seem like you had paid attention. You could feel Steve's eyes on you. "Are you okay?" Steve mouthed from across the couch. You smiled and nodded, but the look of concern didn't leave his face. Of course the one guy you wanted to seem normal to could tell something was off.
Slowly, everyone gathered their things to leave. Robin and Nancy left together while you were searching for your keys. Eddie had went to the restroom then left, saying something about a deal. You still couldn't find your keys. You always left them on the table in the hall, but they were nowhere to be found. This was just making your night worse. The icing on the cake. Like when you are already mad and your belt loop gets caught on the door handle. You grumble to yourself, when you hear Steve clear his throat.
You turn to glance at him. Steve had your keys in his hand. He jingled them before tossing them at you. You fumble with the catch, but don't drop them. Why the hell would Steve steal your keys?
Steve stood at the end of the hall in front of the front door. He had his arms crossed over his chest. "What's going on?" Steve demanded. You rolled your eyes at his tone, earning a glare," Seriously? You're acting strange, what happened?" "Nothing. Thanks for stealing my keys asshole." "It's called borrowing, you got them back." You attempt to slide by Steve but he blocks you. Almost like a game, you try to slide past and he blocks you.
You fake to the left, making Steve attempt to block you there, but slide past him on the right. You grasp the door handle but-
The handle slips from your grasp as Steve spins you around and pins you to the door. His arms blocking you on either side, holding onto your biceps. You drop your keys on the floor from surprise. A moment of silence between you two as you both realize the position you're in.
"What's going on? Did...did I do something?" Steve frowns at you. Your stomach drops at the look of disappointment on his face," No! Steve just...no." "You can't even look at me without frowning." His words make you realize you are indeed frowning. You must have been frowning at him all night. You attempt to smile, but the attempt is pitiful and Steve sighs," I'm sorry...I dont know what I did, but I am." "Steve you didn't do-" "No, no. Let me finish. I'm sorry that-" "Steve-" "-i never meant to make you uncomfortable, if you tell me what it is I can avoid doing it again-" "Steve I-" "- let me speak! I'm sorry i-"

The success of the show was unexpected. When the second season was announced, I wasn't told anything about it. Just that I wouldn't be playing Tate again.
The new season brought many changes. Doing an anthological series came with its challenges. I would be playing an entirely different character, in a different story, set in a different place.
Kit came pretty easily to me, minus his accent. That kind of challenge is what you look for as an actor, though.
It was announced that my love interest would be played by a relatively new actress named Y/N Y/L/N. In the spirit of changing things up, Taissa wouldn't be returning this season. She wouldn't be my scene partner anymore. It was like going to school after summer break and finding out your best friend wasn't in your class.
It was a total gut punch, for sure. Until I actually met Y/N.
She and I clicked really well. We had a mutual understanding of the motives of these characters and our scenes went off without a hitch. She was quick as a whip. She knew exactly how to make me laugh. We bonded over our love of acting and our tastes in music.
She got her start only a year prior to shooting Asylum. Some Disney Channel show, she said. I nearly cackled when I found out. I sort of didn't want to relive my time as Seth in 'Phil of the Future,' but she gave me no choice. We talked about our experiences with Disney sets. She had some sort of bit part, kind of like mine. She said she played the bully in the episode.
It helped her get cast in other more serious roles. She must have really sold that bully part. A couple episodes on some medical dramas and crime shows led her to the part of Grace in American Horror Story, and I couldn't complain.
It's worth mentioning that she was absolutely stunning. Just visually a marvel. I tried not to let it affect my work, but god, was she beautiful.
It was impossible to ignore my feelings for her. It physically hurt to keep myself away. I didn't want to compromise the work we were trying to do, but man I was starving for her. Ah, the genius of pain. It was like a knife in my stomach, poking and prodding at me each time she walked into the room. A constant feeling of disquiet and adrenaline.
The tension I felt worked for the story, thankfully. I found that our scenes were more believable because of how enamored I was.
It was like I had a schoolyard crush. I found myself frightened by the bite of rejection, entirely unsure of her feelings toward me. The aforementioned knife twisted every time I thought I might fall short of the mark. That she would be repulsed by me, or disinterested in the most soul-crushing way.
I didn't want to compromise our friendship. We had grown so close. The season's filming was going so well. I didn't want to risk it all and lose her due to the shame of rejection and uncomfortable feelings between us. And I for sure didn't want her or me to lose the job because our scenes got awkward.
But then came the sex scene.

Written into the plot was a love story blossoming between our two characters. It would come to a boiling point in an intense scene in the bakery.
It was as if a softly spoken magic spell granted my ultimate wish. Being that close to her, all over her, was all I could think about since meeting her. Now it was coming true. And in a way that made it so that I didn't have to actually put myself out there and get rejected.
The shoot started without a hitch. We were briefed by the intimacy coach ahead of filming in order to make the scene as comfortable as possible for the both of us. We were fitted with the necessary modesty undergarments that kept things sanitary, but convincing for TV.
After running through some things a couple of times, both of us felt ready to start. I began the scene, Y/N walked in and we exchanged dialogue. The lines flowed naturally, growing in intensity until I had to hoist her onto the table, hungrily gripping at her clothes.
I thought I could stop myself. I thought that being in character would prevent it from happening. But my true feelings made themselves known as soon as I had to act out thrusting inside of her. okay so, yesterday I found your spn meta by chance and fell in love with them 'cause more than writing they're like images, like they really depict things and I just immediately understand what you mean instantly + I started to rewatch Steve Yockey's episodes 'cause I feel like I like his writing (lots of queer! lots of rom-com references! but it's all done so intellingently, I love it!) but ALSO sometimes it doesn't translate to me + I just saw you wrote about "Optimism"= I GOTTA ASK: what's your take on "Optimism"? I don't understand what the Zombie story and the Musca one should reveal about the characters. Visually, it looks like the Musca = Charlie, so Harper and the zombie are ??? I have so many thoughts on Optimism. It's one of my fave episodes! I actually did a re-watch-slash-convo with some friends on Discord and just transcribed the very, very, very LOOONG bulk of it today!
I haven't written much on the Musca. After spending a lot of time of @scoobydoodean's blog, I've just about decided the Musca plot is actually a Sam's emotions-through line more than it is a true dark mirror. Even AU Charlie is cheeky about it:
AU CHARLIE (annoyed at Sam, about the Musca): Your nifty metaphor has holes.
Basically, Charlie is saying that mirrors aren't one-to-one, and that trying to force-fit them into being one-to-one can be super annoying sometimes.

CHARLIE - Every two hundred years there is "bad egg". When a male fails to find a mate, he abandons his community and starts using peoples bodies to "nest". Binding them together with a viscous goo. And when the goo fits...

The Musca/fly is at face-value:
A) A bodysnatcher plot: In that regard, it could be like all angels, demons, or anyone inhabiting a body. (Cas, Lucifer, Michael, Crowley, etc.) Ergo, it's a dark, uncharitable Cas mirror the way Dave Mathers outlaw wraith was in Tombstone. It could be saying that Cas "failed" among "his own people" and cruelly took up space in a human body. But that would be grossly oversimplifying the whole situation, saying that Cas "should have stayed with his people," which ofc doesn't work.
It, as Charlie says, "has a lot of holes." @ilarual has written a lot about the totalitarian structure of Heaven. And Sam himself wants Cas around. As far as metaphors go, it's a dud for Cas.
B) It's a failure to thrive plot: Because the Musca "failed" in The Real World with its Own People, perhaps failed to live up to The prescriptive Dream of Success (TM), now it's wreaking havoc on others.
Sam himself "failed out" of Harvard. He "choked." Kevin Train and Patience Turner are also Failed Gifted Students. Losers who didn't live up to their potential. This could even apply to Chuck, binding together his characters because he's a Loser with a capital L.

ANYWAY, I feel like the Music plot is a "red herring" for a few reasons.
One: The main Harper plot is about breaking narratives, about not relying so much on books. And then Charlie says this:
CHARLIE: Goo. So, yeah. I'd say this is the right place. Now, I'm just trying to figure out what we are dealing with. Thus, books.
Aside: Later Cas says sarcastically in Ouroboros that Sam and Rowena, "Have many, many books."
So, there's this niggling indictment of trying to find too much truth in books...

Two: Sam has a tendency to see something and, like, imprint on it. He tends to fall into "It's just like me!" instead of speaking frankly about the present situations and emotions.
*In American Nightmare, he sees Madga Peterson, an abused child* -> "She's just like me!"

*In Lost & Found, he meets Jack Kline, who is Lucifer's son "OMG, he's just like me!" -> *spoiler alert* Jack is not in fact much like Sam at all. -> Sidenote: instead of speaking frankly about how Dean is grieving, how Lucifer killed Cas and likely killed Mary, he uses complex euphemisms with Jack, ones that actually obscure the reality of the situation! This winds up annoying Jack and making him pull away from Sam.

IMHO...Sam isn't...naturally all that great with emotions.
He tries really, really hard, and he loves patterns, but he's always seeming to force-fit situations and scenarios into neat little boxes so he can passively-aggressively use it to indirectly communicate something he feels about himself.
He has a very cognitive empathy style. Bless him.

So what's REALLY going on here?
Well. In this episode, he wants Charlie to stay. He wants Charlie to stay and fill a void the other Charlie left behind. He wants Charlie to stay really, really badly. And he beats around the bush about it.
At first, he sidesteps his own emotions by passive-aggressively implying that it's Dean that in fact needs her.
CHARLIE: He'll be fine. Your brother, I mean. He's got other friends, right? SAM: Plenty. Uhm, he used to have a pretty damn good wingman. CHARLIE: So call that guy to check on him. SAM: That guy was you. CHARLIE: No, it wasn't. SAM: Right, I, uh, sorry. I didn't mean that.
And then by trying to make the case fit her.
He's very indirect and weird about it. Because he's Sam. (It's a contrast to the effortless, awkward-but-honest communication style we see from characters like Jack and Dean in this very episode.)
SAM: Charlie, you can't just quit and go live on a mountain somewhere. People need people. CHARLIE: Why? Cause they're the luckiest people in the world? SAM: Look, come on. We just do. We're social animals. CHARLIE: Emphasis on animals. SAM: Yeah, but you're also a hunter. The things that we've seen, it's not so easy to just walk away from it all. Believe me, I've tried. Our Charlie tried. CHARLIE: Yeah, well again, she ain't me. It's my life, Sam. Not hers. And not yours.
Ah, yes. Instead of saying, “I want you here,” it’s, “people need people.”
And Hell, sometimes indirect communication works! Like how Dean and Cas use Felix the snake to indirectly communicate with Jack in Peace of Mind!
But the difference with Sam is...he's not using this indirect communication style to find out how Charlie feels (the way Dean and Cas use the snake to suss out how Jack feels).
No, he's using the whole thing to try to tell Charlie what he thinks is best for her! To tell her things, not find out things.
Eventually, he breaks and says what he actually thinks, but only after AU Charlie is starting to lose her patience with him:
SAM (faux-sadly): Got to say, I do feel kind of bad for the Musca. I mean, he could have been happy if he'd stayed with his people. Didn't have to go off on his own just because... CHARLIE (exasperated): Okay, I get it. I am just like the bug and I shouldn't go out on my own.
OMG, Sammy! It's okay if we want to hit Sam sometimes, right? I too wanted to hit him after he said this to Charlie.
CHALIE: But your nifty metaphor has holes. I wasn't looking for love. I found it and I lost it. And I didn't kill people and literally nest in their body parts so...(Scene cuts to other Musca removing the body of the dead one) SAM: Okay, yeah I know, I know, How about this? Don't leave. 
(Aside// I think this is a cheeky nod to the fact that Cas and Dean weren't looking for love either. In fact, they tried (and keep trying) really, really hard not to love each other. Their real life was faaaar more complicated than some simple "bodysnatcher plot.")
But thank God--Sam finally says outright what he needed to say to Charlie: Don't leave.
Now, it probably would've been better if he's gone a step further: "I don't want you to leave," but for Sam, this is pretty good progress.
SAM: Hear me out. Sure some people can do bad things when they're desperate or scared. But the guy we just saved, he has a wife and children. I'm not saying that all people are good people or even that most people are but if we help people then maybe they'll help people and all that. And that's worth it. Even with all the tears and death. It's worth it. CHARLIE: Just to be super clear, I am not like the fly monster. (Sam chuckles) But, I'll think about staying.
So I think OVERALL the Musca plot is really about highlighting Sam's difficult communication style, and I think it's intentionally being cheeky about it how it's using a "really "dumb metaphor" with gaping holes!
It's about how Sam tries to force-fit the case of the week into saying what he wants it to say...instead of just saying it.

I think Sam has a little bit of a "mental main character syndrome." He sees a scenario and moves directly into cognitive empathy, reading the situation and thinking:
How can I apply this to myself? Or make it a stand-in for either something I want to believe about myself or a stand-in for something I want to say indirectly?
Sometimes you'll see ppl insist that Sam is the "MC" because every storyline tells you "something about Sam." But I'm more in the camp that it's Sam's inherent cognitive style of empathy at work, desperately reworking anything and everything to make it apply to himself.
Whereas Cas and Dean (and Jack) have a truer emotional style of empathy, connecting with people for who they actually are, as they are.
That's not to say that both styles can't be manipulative when we want them to be. But Sam really struggles with his style in a way I feel like Dean and Cas do not. Dean and Cas perhaps don't even realize what effective communicators they actually are!

Creations AU for example: Born from me having dumb funny ideas like making Bonnie a stoner, or Freddy a literal prostitute and the Night guard a stone faced bad ass who reacts near emotionlessly/weird no matter what bullshit is in front of him.
Shit like that gives way to a LOT of stupid interactions/comedy. Is if objectively funny? Idk. But it makes me laugh.
Fannon Fan cannon ideas I like from a writing perspective. Not exactly a cannon/theory one lmfao can't stress that enough.
Glamrock Freddy being Michael/Josh in Creations instance, Mikebot, William murdering to try and resurrect his children, Golden Freddy being crying child. Those are just some examples of fannon ideas/theories I liked enough to run with.

I mostly focus on CHARACTER based AUs just cause I like writing CHARACTERS not character concepts.... Multiverse Mayhem is a character concept thing, but I'm not ready to write that yet, and it's way more "Character based" when it comes to how it's actually IMPLIMENTED
But you can do em with random concepts too most UNDERTALE AUs I know are more IDEA based than character based:

The laziest/my least favorite/fun trope lmfao but a lot of people like that one. it's SUPER hard to make interesting At least to me but my opinions are ass so you can throw em out. X'D but if you're a good writer you can make nearly anything work.
Evil character A is the good guy and Good guy is the bad guy. They swap outfits and MAYBE their backstory's are swapped? Idk there's no consistent rules to this AU idea. Somehow we ended up with the reverse of what was there in cannon. I've only seen it done in a fun way when it's like REALLY detailed Reverse Falls I found interesting for example. Underswap is lazy af and we can all admit we only like the skelebros. I virtually ONLY like them when they're accessories to other AUs/playing off other Sans and Papyrus but that's just me....
There's also "What if x plot point from cannon was changed"
Like uhh, you know. A character NEARLY dies in cannon but ACTUALLY dies in this AU.
@james-p-sullivan wrote a fic about that with Four Swords where Vio dies at the fire temple.
That still has one chapter left that i am waiting eagerly for. X'D
Basically AUs like this are "Cannon divergence." I think is what they're called???
These are super fun.
Because if you know the characters really well you can make em react to whatever divergence in cannon in great ways.
And then there's:
THE PREQUEL, THE SEQUEL AND THE MIDQUEL
Four Swords Returns for example is a sequel with midquel elements.
Midquel: You add scenes where they COULD have fit in cannon or you flesh out scenes mentioned but not seen.
I made FSR: Because I didn't like the ending we were given.
And if you hate an ending: Make a sequel. It's fun.
I started FSR with the simple concept:
How I can split Link in 4 again?
Vaati's curse! :D
Vaati is still alive. Retcon Gannon being in the sword and retcon Vaati being dead. Literally no one has complained because Vaati is wonderful and we love him.
Make it possible for them to split again.
Oh...But what challenges COME from this?

Basically: Ask yourself a SHIT TON of questions.
"What if this?" "What if that?"

@danganronpasurvivoraskblog did their own take on this and tagged me, so here's my thoughts!
I was just perusing Tumblr one day, say SDRA2 in my recommended and looked it up on TV Tropes. It was pretty interesting-sounding, so I looked into it. Not much else to say, really : P
DRA. While SDRA2 is more visually-pleasing, I think DRA has a better and more well-crafted story overall.
Faves: DRA Chapter 4 and SDRA2 Chapter 5. Least Faves: Chapter 3 for both of them.
I have a lot of great things to say about the usage of both Akane Taira and Utsuro, and their implementation in the game...but I feel like I have to give Mikado credit for actually being a villainous force throughout all of SDRA2. We got to know him as a villain and thus all that characterization wasn't crammed into a single trial.
It's a toss up between Maku and Emma, because I feel like the two of them really had a lot of personal history that you got to see in their FTEs. Maku clearly regretted his actions, and Emma tormenting him with puns was pretty funny. The Void Theater segments honestly made me want to include them in my own story, given that there was a lot of history between the Voids we didn't get to see.
Yoruko. She really deserved a break after all that.
Faves: Kanata & Akane for DRA; Hibiki, Shinji, Setsuka, Yoruko & Sora in SDRA2. Least faves: Mitch and Tsurugi for DRA; Syboi and Iroha for SDRA2
A LOT. Frankly, the entire Another series barely utilizes anyone's actual ultimate talents, and instead relies on character quirks you'll probably forget about or actual literal luck.
Iroha. She doesn't do anything to improve anybody's situation; not the main group, not the Voids, barely even her own most of the time. She's borderline useless at the best of times, and at her worst, she's selfish, bratty, petulant, brainless and just a detriment. She doesn't change, adapt, contribute or even make for a particularly interesting character, so what was the point of her inclusion, much less her survival?
Kanata. There's so much more that could've been done with her character beyond just making her the pure angel who apparently had to die horribly so we would feel bad.
Anyone who's followed me for long enough knows my answer is going to be Hibiki. Nobody got screwed over as badly as she did. Say what you will about Yuki being reduced to a brain in a jar, at least he actually survived.
Once again, Hibiki, hands down. Her survival would've been so much more meaningful and interesting, and could've contributed so much to the story and themes, as well as the conflicts both Yuki and Sora were facing.
I don't really care about the executions, but I guess Syobai's would be interesting to see. It's pretty fitting for him.
Kinji's. It was a nice mix of thematically appropriate but also completely bizarre, as we expect from DR.
Not to steal an idea from WeebyNewz, but I think DRA's first chapter would've been a lot more interesting if Kiyoka was the one who killed Mitch while trying to protect Akane.
Faves: DRA Chapter 6 and SDRA2 Chapter 1. Least Faves: DRA Chapter 1 and SDRA2 Chapter 3.
Plot twist that got me: That Mikado actually got away with murder in Chapter 5, and nobody, not even Iroha, even realized until it was too late. She genuinely thought that she was the one who poisoned Teruya, but she got played just as hard. He was this close to winning and it was actually on his own merits. Least favorite plot twist: The reveal that Kizuna was actually fake and she was just looking for a chance to kill someone. I hate the way LINUJ talks about her as the most hateable character in the game, and he clearly wanted the audience to feel that way, yet went out of his way to give her some genuinely interesting and sympathetic qualities. That whole bit doesn't feel like she's revealing her true colors, but that her personality suddenly shifted for the sake of making her an antagonist. Her death was also needlessly prolonged and cruel.
Even if they didn't act like it in the game, the Voids did have a genuine level of camaraderie and friendship that was lost when Mikado took over and convinced them they had to set up this Killing Game. When Iroha said she wanted to use the bathroom after trial 4, she was really looking for a place to cry, knowing her only friends were all gone.
SDRA2, while I don't hate it, it has some of the weakest writing I've ever seen for a fangan. The game is so focused on self-indulgence and callbacks to DRA that it doesn't communicate its theme in any clear manner. It also has this pervasively cynical, jaded view of its cast where barely any of them grow or change at all. And as I always like to bring up, you can skip Chapter 3 and miss nothing important to the overarching story, Chapter 4 was a mess that derailed the narrative and Chapter 6 is one exposition dump after another. It's a messy story that clearly needed more planning.
Point 19 having been said, I really liked the scene in Chapter 5 where Sora and Yoruko finally have a heart-to-heart about Sora's fears about her identity. It was such a cathartic and emotional moment after so many chapters of garbage and mediocrity, not to mention bitterness and anger on Yoruko's part. I wanted more moments like these, where characters genuinely talk.
//So there we go, my 20 points for the Another series. Some of these are new, others are things I'll probably never shut up about : P

I really do not understand why both 1995 and 2007 cut Mrs smith story. It is such an interesting story. Instead of 1995 being like: „Elliot is broke. He only wants to marry into your family because of your money“ (which doesn’t make any sense considering the high debt the family is in at that point) or 2007: „He only wants to marry into your family to make sure to become a Baronet. And he also flirted with Mrs Clay. Isn’t that horrible?“
No the true horror here is that Mr Elliot forced Mr Smith into poverty and death. Leaving an ill Mrs Smith behind, who has no money to get the medical care she needs. And people think that is a boring story to tell?
And instead tell the story of Elliot wanting a title (wow) or is in need of money (yawn)
I couldn't finish watching 2007 so I can't speak to that, but yes, it's always disappointed me in 2005. The equivalent would be skipping over Wickham's history with Georgiana, or Willoughby's with Brandon's ward, and just saying "well, they're insincere and fickle, their interest in you/your sister is selfish, and their finances are in a bad state, you can't trust them".
And the reason that I would particularly like to hear to hear that whole backstory in Persuasion is precisely the fact that, while WIlloughby's and Wickham's past sins are sexual/seductive in nature, Elliot's is not. There's nothing warm or impulsive about it, he didn't make mistakes: it was cold and calculating and deliberate and cruel, every step of the way. And it wasn't for love, or even lust. It was for money and, presumably, the cool pleasure of having this power over somebody else's life and then being able to discard them when you're done.
It isn't as dramatic or easily reduced to a few sentences of 'and then he ran away with her', a gasp and a shocked reaction. It takes some time to explain the actions and to convey the heartlessness and horror. Perhaps that's part of why neither of the previous adaptations took the time to do it: maybe if either of them had been a miniseries, like my favourite adaptations of each of P&P, Emma, and S&S.
But I think leaving it out, as you say, leaves the Big Villain Reveal as... rather a non-event. It's a bit boring and it feels like he's just a bit greedy, rather than (in my opinion) worse than Wickham, or Willoughby, or the Crawfords (and certainly worse than silly little John Thorpe). It also cuts out the thread of 'persuasion' (friend misleading friend, not out of good intentions but maliciously) which ties it to the novel's theme and Anne's character development, and so her change of heart is disconnected from it.
Perhaps it gets downplayed too because this is one case where the heroine or her sister isn't in love with the villain, so the reveal doesn't have so strong an effect on the narrative: Anne wasn't going to love Elliot either way and was unlikely by this stage to agree to marry him. The main effect it has on the plot is to confirm the way she was already thinking and feeling—about Elliot, about persuasion, and about separating her own judgement from that of Lady Russell—and... well, I can see how, when it comes to writing a film script and trying to fit it all into two hours, one might decide to simplify it to just 'oh, btw, he's selfish and insincere'.
I can understand it, but that doesn't mean I like it. Let Mrs Smith speak!

Hey! I’ve gotten started on Order of Ecclesia! Some first impressions:
1. Shanoa is really freaking pretty. She’s a Castlevania protagonist, so it’s to be expected, but dang.
2. I like how this game, you primarily use spells instead of a whip. Really helps this game stand out!
3. I get the feeling that the situation with Albus and Barlowe is rather complicated. Albus claimed at the beginning that Barlowe lied to him about whether he would wield the Dominus Glyph (which for some reason is always rendered in brackets in the dialogue). Shanoa’s lack of memory strikes me as suspicious (on Barlowe’s end, not hers). Allegedly Albus caused this, but given Albus’s dialogue with Barlowe I’m not entirely sure that’s the truth.
4. If I had a nickel for every time a Castlevania game I knew anything about featured “rivals” of a kind I’d have three now. Which doesn’t fit the meme, but it’s still interesting that it happened thrice. At least.
Please don’t spoil anything, though you can tell me if I’m on the right track with some of my suspicions.
Oh wow, to jump from SoTN to OoE! Timeline wise yes, OoE happens not long after SoTN, but difficulty wise? Oof. Good luck!
YESSSS Shanoa is Best Girl and she's so gorgeous <3 fun fact: Ayami Kojima didn't work on OoE (nor did she work on Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin), the character designer was Masaki Hirooka. I like his style quite a lot :) his drawings may not be as ethereal, but he's less stereotypical in his designs lol (I don't think Kojima ever drew a dark-haired woman).
Not using a whip is pretty common for Metroidvanias because for some reason Igarashi preferred non-Belmont protagonists lol. But Glyphs are really cool, yeah :D I find interesting that they consume mana, it forces you to think before unleashing a flurry of attacks.
Well, I won't spoil anything. I'll simply tell you that OoE has my favorite plot in the series :)
Try four :P Circle of the Moon was the first one, then Harmony of Dissonance, then Curse of Darkness, then this one. SoTN and Lament of Innocence only count in part - Alucard and Richter are foils and fight each other, but they lack the prerequisite "shared past/old friends" part, and Leon's rival is way too underutilized. Yeah, it's a common trope, but every game treats it differently! I'd link to a post I made in this regard, but it heavily spoils all games I've mentioned, so maybe I'll save it for later :P
Have fun! OoE is a rather different game than its predecessors, probably in an effort to make the formula less stale, so I hope you like it nonetheless :)

An unpopular opinion: not sure how unpopular it is, but i think the gallifrey: time war stuff shouldn't have been branded as only gallifrey. this is is a complicated opinion so here me out. what i think the gallifrey: time war stuff (particularly boxset 2 and 3) should have been branded as is more allong the lines of gallifrey time war: romana, gallifrey time war: narvin, gallifrey time war: leela, etc. and given each a boxset each of them to explore their individual reactions to the time war, which would have given more allowance for plot things without taking away from the dynamics which is ultimately what disappointed so many of us i think. and then time war 4 should have been those plots converging and sort of zooming out on the close focus of those characters to see the core team and how their stories and individual characters fit so well with each other. idk if all that would even be doable or if it's more of a fanfic writer task, but i do think it would have been so much more emotionally satisfying than what we got.
(but also if it is a fanfic writer ask, any fanfic writers are more than welcome to steal the idea and write a beautiful multichap ksldfjsf)

Pairing I am not a fan of: romantic romana/narvin. i mean. it's okay, but out of all the romantic pairings you can make, that's definitely my last/least favourite option. i think the devotion narvin has toward romana remaining platonic and/or undefined makes it mean that much more meaningful u know?
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): ik the common answer is probably brax, and they're right, but you know what? i'm going to go with leela again. particularly time 4 war leela because they DIDN'T DO HER GOOD!! they didn't give us any indication that her heart broke over the death of one of her only friends beyond a quiet "oh", AND THEN THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE HER ATTEMPT TO FIGHT BACK WHEN RASSILON SHOVED ROMANA INTO THE POCKET UNIVERSE JUST MINUTES AFTER SHE'S LOST NARVIN???? LIES, LIES, AND MORE LIES. i didn't expect her to break down wailing there in the tardis, obviously, but this is leela we're talking about, she's not just going to be like "lol ok guess i'll not be sad and just let my other best friend be taken away from me too". she's at least going to give some indication that she'll cry later, and then she would at least try to stop romana from being taken away, or, at the very least argue with romana when romana told her not to do anything. she would be angry and hurt and the fact that we didn't get that-
i'll be fine. i just need to go do some breathing exercises sldkfjsf

The thing about silent protagonists in games is that they're not inherently devoid of characterization, it's just that often times they either are or their characterization is bad. This is especially a problem to me in games that are supposed to be about player choice who then keep putting me in "I would not fucking say/do that" moments (cough cough persona).
Also, you can have a mostly silent protagonist who's not a blank slate and still has plenty of charm to them, but you're inherently going to be limited with that decision and I don't think I need to explain why a story needs a protagonist. It can be done well but it still takes effort, and all of my favorite protagonists just so happen to be established characters with arcs, motivations, and flaws so maybe there's something to be said about the proper time and place to have a silent protagonist. Samus works very well but Metroid isn't usually trying to have a capital P Plot as it's main focus, it's moreso the nature of the choices she makes and how she fits in to the general atmosphere and also those parts in fusion and dread where she does actually talk and it feels super significant.
Honestly the best case of a silent protagonist working in a narrative heavy game to me is ffxiv and that's only cause 1. They were basically forced to do it that way due to the genre and 2. They spent an entire decade constantly developing and evolving how to make that work. I would NOT be making this statement if Shadowbringers and Endwalker didn't exist (but kudos to stormblood for the zenos dynamic and of course the dark knight quests).

murphtavia x attention by doja cat (july '23) + my relationship with them
sooo it had been a while since i last edited murphy and octavia, as the 100 has been over for like almost three years (WTF), there aren't a lot of new scenes etc. so i've lost my inspo gradually (rip) but i still like to edit the show once in a while, and when i do it just feels like HOME.
i LOOOOVEEE editing the 100 so much. well, it makes sense as it is my favorite show and i was OBSESSED with it for a few years (i knew every single line said by every single character omfg mood)
i think my fav things to edit from the 100 are polis (MY HOMEEEE), murphtavia (yes it IS a crackship, i love crackships so much, in fact, i love AU edits in general: the idea of recreating a whole new plot / reality with a story that already exists, with limited scenes, etc. it amazes me!!!!), octavia, diyoza, season 6, locations in general & underrated characters
anyways, i wanted to edit murphy and octavia again, but as i used to do it ALL THE TIME, i've already done quite a lot of concepts (example: modern murphtavia, murphtavia on bardo, murphtavia on sanctum, murphtavia & bellamy, murphtavia in 705, etc.) and i didn't want to just edit random scenes from random seasons so i decided that i should edit them in season 7 only, because s7 looked SO GOOOODDD on them let's be honest!!! then, right after having the idea, i downloaded their soft & badass scenes and i searched for an audio.
i wanted to make a soft / badass ship edit, because i don't really know how to do simple ship edits (don't ask me why), i always find it more interesting to add a little bit of spiceeeee... actually i think i just don't like to stick to one 'editing pattern'.
so once i found the audio i started the edit, it took me almost 11 hours to make it, and i used exclusively videostar (bc sometimes i like to use procreate, imovie or else).
during the editing process, i had been kind of stuck multiple times, especially with the parts concerning murphy, idk why, when this happens, i just keep going to create further transitions in order to keep my inspo, bc if i don't touch for a few days, it's quite impossible for me to be in the exact same mood i was before and to continue the edit (in fact i usually rush the end of all my edits -> tips: i now try to do the last two transitions when i start my edit so the more meh transitions won't be at the very end and it won't be as visible)
anyways, murphtavia has been one of my greatest inspiration since 2019, every time i edit them my mind just enters into an altered state of consciousness (i'm not being dramatic at all) and finds a way to make them REAL. i also love to know that people might be shocked or uncomfortable or surprised while watching my murphtavia edits as it is really just me and my mind recreating the story (dramatic)
i won't say that it is my fav muphtavia edit that i've made, bc there is the one from april '22 (https://www.instagram.com/p/CcVp8JTID8w/), and y'all let me tell you. let me. explain. how proud i am of myself for creating this one. i think everything fits very well, and i remember i even CREATED an leaf overlay IRL from scratch, with REAL LEAVES from my GARDEN. lmaooo i was like 'ok i don't know how to use cinema 3d let's find another way to create exactly what i have in mind' and i did. slay. however, i think in this edit from july '23, there are some crusty stuff, especially, once again, in the parts concentrated on murphy, maybe it's bc i usually have more inspo to edit women (oops)

yeah i Used to have the same perspective on it too but as time went on and i developed a stronger aversion to the mechs fandom (everyone say thanks to ts teeth hcs, dr c mischaracterization and any other piece of widely accepted fanon which ppl get weirdly overprotective of) + realized that hnoc Wasn't my actual introduction to arthuriana (shout out to dragon slayer's academy and this niche little vn which i pretended to have read for weeb clout when i was ~12 even though really i had just read the summary of it on a fandom wiki, it was called destiny/leave day or something like that?) an i'd just somehow forgotten about its predecessors + tried to fit my arthurian faves into hnoc-verse and realized that it just Didn't Work and realized just how bad it was in comparison to like. udad. which was soooo good and it just kinda. made me go a little bit insane and tanked my opinion of it. also my growing hatred of a/g/l due to med lit fandom drama (< bizzare series of words that Sure Does Exist) + modern arthuriana like in general probably fanned the flames.
anyways. i said almost everything i have to say about hnoc in the og tags (save for some parts that are less a hnoc issue and more of a discussion of th white/mzb/modern arthuriana in general or a frantic explanation of why it's ok when fate does it but when hnoc does it i'm mad and it's not hypocritical of me (< generally it boils down to 'arthurian lit is incredibly inaccessible to english speakers in 2023, imagine what it would've been like to japanese speakers in 2004, nasu did the best he could, meanwhile the mechs have demonstrated the ability to heavily research their albums and are english speakers who would've had university access (p much the only way to read anything other than le morte or sgatgk legally without breaking the bank) at the time they were working on it')) but i got cut off so i'll add a basic summary of the tags which tumblr couldn't handle bc my arthurian takes r 2 complex and well-thought out for it
basically re: "#and idk it just rings hollow to me for the adaptation which made all/most of its characters either lgbt or poc to have written out p much#all the arthurian characters who were originally poc (palomydes. priamus. ysabelle. feirefiz. isolde of ireland. etc.)" there was a second part of that sentence which also pointed out how almost all the academically/historically substantiated lgbt characters (palomydes, tristan, gawaine, galehaut, lancelot, sebile, morgan, galahad) were cut out or unrecognizable (lancelot and galahad fall under the unrecognizable category).
i also had the character assassination of gawaine as it's own point, as it's just. particularly bad and one of the main reasons why i dislike hnoc, as well as the reason why hnoc's world is so hostile to p much Every other arthurian story bc he's basically the main character of medieval arthuriana and he's now. . obligatory disclaimer that i'm not opposed to gawaine as a villain bc god knows i'm a palomydes stan above all and anyone with a passing interest in the tristan tradition will know that gawaine is a fucking asshole an a horrible person but like. he didn't have to be fucking racist. medieval gawaine is an incredibly complex and deeply deeply flawed character and hnoc boiled that all down to 'racist' which is. one of the few things medieval gawaine is not. and so now all the characters and stories that orbit him are dead in the water bc why would anyone want to read about the cartoon racist.
in general all of the hnoc characters seem like they were written to serve the plot and the co-opted into being the nearest arthurian character. not a single one resembles themself at all. the best example i can think of is galahad (who's actually my fave hnoc character) who just isn't. galahad. medieval galahad is young and has been worshipped and dehumanized all his life, the very reason he was conceived was bc a prophecy said he would be good and pure and would achieve the holy grail, and so he was raised like a holy relic for one purpose and one alone, to the point where, when he finally tries to make a friend in le morte, literal angels intervene to remind him of his purpose, and ultimately he did succeed in that purpose! and when he did he had nothing else to do but end his own life. hnoc galahad is never dehumanized nor worshipped or even liked. hnoc galahad is viewed as a crazy person but a person nonetheless, and hnoc galahad genuinely wants the grail. the two are connected by name alone and it's the same w everyone else. medieval lancelot will always return to guinnevere, and she is the source of both his loyalty and sense of self, and he will destroy anything that poses a threat to her, hnoc lancelot genuinely cares abt camelot and uhm. human life. medieval mordred wasn't actually arthur's son in most texts and kinda just tagged along w his brothers' plans (particularly agravaine's) and ultimately took over camelot bc agravaine was dead and it was the next logical step to take considering all they'd done before, if you want something really interesting mordred-wise the alliterative morte gives him genre awareness but his lamentations of his fate are centered around the uhm. fratricide. and not arthur, hnoc mordred views arthur as his whole world which his Only brother gawaine is comparatively a footnote in, and has motivations which are truly his own. medieval guinn is politically savvy and stuck in a loveless marriage unable to fulfill her one purpose as queen (to have an heir) and thus centers herself around lancelot and his devotion to her to cope, hnoc guinn is a gunslinger. idrc enough abt arthur to analyze him but ultimately it's easy to see that These Are Not The Same Ppl in the way that like. myth orpheus, ulysses, narcissus etc. and udad orpheus, ulysses, narcissus etc. are. even in like. ouat(is) where the characters are Obviously Different People from their fairy tale counterparts, they exist in a form of commentary on their other selves, and the ouat(is) approach to characters is true for the prisoner of dorian gray + frankenstein as well. hnoc has no commentary on the original arthurian characters bc it Doesn't know who they are, the characters in hnoc are meant to be the arthurian characters in a different setting like in udad and tbi (the latter i can't speak on bc i don't norse myth and don't tbi). and it gets them wrong.
tl;dr uhm. the mecha arthurian vn that lives in my head wouldn't do this to me

ARC Review: Their Duchess by Jess Michaels.

For when you're vibing with... Menage romance (crossed swords included), interclass romance, a Lady Chatterley vibe perhaps, artist heroes, and lots of fucking on the page.
After her husband dies, duchess Anna is on the road with her loyal manservant Oliver. With nowhere else to go, they take shelter with scandalous painter Ezra, who gives them an offer they can't refuse--he'll give them both enough for them to get on their feet, if they pose together for one of his erotic portraits. Oliver and Anna have long suppressed their feelings for each other, and they're both intrigued by Ezra. But what starts out as a win-win gets more complicated as physical attraction gives way to actual feelings for all three.
This was a hot, intriguing menage romance, the second installment in Jess Michaels's Theirs series--and even if it didn't quite live up to Their Marchioness, I enjoyed it thoroughly. It dipped into different waters than the first book, with a different set of challenges. I'm impressed by her ability to try different things with the same basic "concept".
Quick Takes:
--If you're into interclass drama, this is the book for you. Anna and Oliver's central conflict is "even if Anna doesn't give a fuck about being a duchess anymore, Oliver sure does feel unworthy of her". It would get tired, except for the fact that both Ezra and Anna confront this in Oliver head on, and his desire to put her first (and above) goes far enough to affect his sex life. Which I found super interesting.
--This one does, I will say, feel more like a central love story between two people, with the addition of a third that just happens to fit in with them really well. Compared, that is, to the first book, in which all three partners had some kind of preexisting history with each other, and all seemed to be equally in love with each other. For sure, I could see Ezra falling in love with Anna and Oliver at a future date, and I felt they could fall for him too, but I did kinda miss the feeling that this was a solid, equal triad that I got from the first book. That could totally be a preference thing, though, and I get why it might be hard to authentically sell Ezra's connection to Anna and Oliver as having the significance of their connection to each other in the span of this book.
--I really enjoyed the total lack of struggle both Oliver and Ezra had with being bisexual. Ezra isn't titled, but he is a blue-blooded, louche sort of artist. Oliver is solidly working class and a servant. Both of them are bi, neither of them is bothered about it. While I appreciated the struggle with sexuality that one character in Their Marchioness, it was smart to not repeat that in this book.
--While Oliver coming to terms with his feelings for Anna and Ezra and his place in their world is a big part of the book, I would say this one is significantly less dramatic than Their Marchioness, and that in itself was kind of nice. This story runs on vibes in a lot of ways. In that sense, it's a really soothing and easy read, and I'd totally recommend it as a palate cleanser. It's not without angst, but it also isn't heavy.
The Sex Stuff:
Their Duchess is a quick and dirty read--I'm leaning towards it being an erotic romance based on the amount of sex in the book and its interconnection with the plot, though I'm not 100% sure. You get a little bit of everything--plenty of P in V sex, DP, all the oral and digital stuff you could possibly want (including a two-on-one BJ, huzzah!) and the ol' "mmf sandwich" maneuver, which we love to see. It's hot, it's well done, I was happy. The way that Oliver's sexual expression tied back to his self perception was one of my favorite things in the book.
If you're not open to the idea of triads and polyamory... this one won't be for you. The point of the book is three people falling in love with each other. However, if you're looking for a kind of cozy book with just bit of angst and a cute throuple, this is up your alley. And conversely, if you're ready for something a bit angstier, check out Their Marchioness. With either book, you'll have a good time.

Okay oh boy uhhhh here goes, so the
Second Summer AU
is basically exactly what it says on the tin; it's my ideas for what the Pines family's next summer in Gravity Falls might be like. There are a lot of interesting ways that the events of the finale would change up the status quo, as well as character dynamics and relationships that didn't have time to be explored much, and I want to try to explore as many of them as I can!
I only have a handful of ideas that are fleshed out enough to be actual episodes, but I'm hoping I can come up with enough content to make this into a whole season ^^
Some general stuff I wanna include:
Soos and Melody!! Just in general. More of them. Also they get married by the end :)
Lots of Stan and Soos bonding ^^
Melody being the responsible mum figure the disaster Pines family sorely needs
Might add a bit of light shippy stuff, nothing huge just cutesy fluff and developing crushes (I'm rather partial to Dipacifica and MabelxCandy, I think they're cute and would fit pretty well with the canon ^^)
Really interested in how daily life at the shack would change now that Soos and Abuelita (and presumably Melody) are living there
Dipper and Wendy without the awkward crush being the bff dream team they were always meant to be
Pacifica working at Greasy's and forming an unlikely friendship with Lazy Susan
Stan and Ford going along on adventures with the kids
Ford spending time with Mabel!!! We hardly got anything with those two in canon and frankly we were robbed!!
Ford interacting with anyone actually
Gideon legitimately growing as a person and being Mabel's friend again
Stan being a bad influence great role model for Wendy
Pacifica making amends with Candy and Grenda and joining Mabel's group
McGucket cooking up some really crazy stuff with his new-found wealth and resources
Maybe some mystery trio?
I wanna involve Robbie in some way but I'm not sure how yet
I'd like to have Dipper and Mabel's parents show up at some point, Shermie too
More Candy and Grenda
Melody chaperoning the kids' adventures as the sole responsible adult in Gravity Falls
I also have a couple of specific episodes in mind :)
An episode where Ford is running the shack, probably the B plot for a Stan and Soos ep
An anthology type episode of Stan and Ford telling the kids about their Sea Grunk Adventures, featuring the thrilling origin story of Stan's beard
Another anthology one focusing on the townies between summers (I think a whole ep that doesn't have any of the Pines family could be really interesting ^^)
Monsterfalls ep, probably a two parter

Sooooo I'm about to say a whole lot of not very polite words......
AHHHHHHHHHH HOLY SHIT Y'ALL AHHHHHHHHHH
Let's have a look at my brain melting during this episode (there's a lot oops):
- Commando armor? Slicked back hair? HOLY FUCK GREGOR OMG THE BOY!!!!! WE ACTUALLY GET TO SEE THE BOY!!!!!! (wait hold up does this mean we might see Wolffe too? Not asking for a friend I'm asking for me)
- Eek this is giving me very much "Ahsoka being hunted by Trandoshans" vibes
- Hunter doing knife tricks....that's...well....AHHHHH
- Omg Omega trying to copy the little knife spins is so cute
- REX!!! HIM!!! MY FIRST LOVE!!! HE'S BACK AGAIN!!! YAY!!! Sweetheart that poncho is fantastic!

- Here's the thing I love Gregor but like they were a bit too quick to go after him and they still haven't talked about Cross soooooo hmmm
- Ok I have a feeling we are gonna get some Echo character development in this episode. The way Echo looked at Hunter was what got him to cave in and agree to go rescue Gregor. He knows it's the right thing to do and it's so interesting to me that Echo seems to have the strongest sense of moral obligation (aside from Omega). I have a feeling like this might clash with Hunter being the leader and honestly I wanna see how they handle that as a team.

- I just love clones more than life itself. Look at the boys go. I love them. I wanna give them all hugs (in regards to Tech…I will not kiss and tell).
- Gregor has and always will be so precious. Love that quirky boy so much.
- WTF IS GOING ON WITH REX??????? I NEED ANSWERS!!!!!!!
- Echo played such a major role in this episode and honestly I'm so glad. I still think there is so much more room to grow his character, but at least it's something.
- Gonky being that bitch this episode 👑
- Not sure if you've noticed, but my soul is no longer attached to my physical form. Tech has it. Tech owns my soul. I am more than ok with this.
- The last 5 minutes really just did that didn't it? Like jeez bro that was a lot
- Cross? Breaks? Hunter? Out? And? They? Both? Escape? After? Having? An? Emotional? Reconciling? PLEASE???????????
Overall, while I did really like the Ryloth episodes, I honestly think this might be my new favorite episode.
The episode itself was well paced
The stakes felt rather high
Fantastic action
Echo played a main part in the storyline
Contributed to not only the plot of the show but added context for how Gregor and Rex meet up
Tech flying and looking hot while doing it...that's very important to the overall ranking
It was engaging and intense with one hell of a cliffhanger at the end
So yeah I really liked this episode! I'm super excited to see what happens next (omg there's only two episodes left oh no scary)!

Z: I have ZERO qualms with MCD, and I can, do, and would absolutely write it. Remus is probably my least favorite character to kill off on a personal level, but even he isn't immune. I also recall at one point I had a little doodle (ie: one-shot that only existed in my head) where Harry had actually died for real in the final battle and Remus (now alone in the world) teamed up with Ron and Hermione to finish the fight, but in a very "well, scruples are dead now" sort of way. MCD is an effective catalyst for the feral bastard energy I crave. Though it is not the only one. ;)
V: Ooooh this is so tough to answer bc I worry sometimes that I don't have the chops to write as well as some of the authors I admire?? But one of the fics that I can think of here would be wild geese by howlatthemoony. I just. Have so many feelings about this. (And I do like modern AUs but I find that I don't tend to care as much about what happens before or after the fic itself? Usually there's enough filled in within the body of the work to contextualize the story so it doesn't much matter.)
P: Oh gosh, this is kinda tough to answer, and I'm going to drop the rest of this under a break because I'm going to talk some LTL specifics that may be spoilers for those who aren't fully caught up. (Short version: I'm a gardener trying to get their shit together, but I did — and do — have some things planned.)
I'm probably best described as a gardener who designed how their garden was supposed to look ahead of time and is adjusting for small details as we go along. Which is to say that I had an overarching vision for this series, and there's definitely a solid endpoint that I have in mind. I just didn't do any kind of specific outline until after I had started writing. I went into this with the major plot points all thought out, and I adjust the timing and specifics of each as I go. I also, occasionally, have epiphanies about how to avoid plot holes/corners I can see I'm writing myself into.
For reference, everything that happened since "the date night" was not originally supposed to be included. That little mental breakdown scene at the end of chapter 16? It was going to be an entire chapter unto itself and was supposed to originally take place around Christmas. But I needed to fill in more, and pushing it up/reducing its screen time turned out to be a good fit. Not to mention it worked better overall with some other (outlined-but-unwritten) changes I had to make.
But overall, the process has been like taking a road trip with no schedule, just a list of spots you want to go see. And if you find something cool on the way? Hell yeah, stop and take a look... within reason, because you DO only have so long, and you do want to actually see some of these other places. But like. A slight detour here and there can't hurt, you know?
