Funnybunny: Another Commercial

It’s not a part of the Funnybunny week (since it’s already over). But, I wanted to draw them in wedding clothes anyway.

Wedding attire of a girl from a wealthy family - Kazan Tatars, mid 19th century

Echke kulmak is an undershirt made of colored homespun fabric, decorated with frills and stripes made of patterned chintz. Itakle kulmak - a shirt with two lower flounces and a turn-down collar made of purple moire silk. This type of shirt had a sewn-on breast decoration “izu” made of strips of silver and gold braid. Kүkrәkchә - lower silk bib with brocade appliqué. Shtan is a wide-leg trouser made of colored chintz. Kayuly chitek are traditional Tatar soft shoes made of multi-colored pieces of leather connected with a “Kazan seam”. Worn with the best leather galoshes. Camzul is a camisole made of jacquard moire silk with a chintz lining, decorated with gold braid at the edges. Belezek - paired silver bracelets inlaid with carnelian and turquoise. Yaka chylbyry - (an element of a predominantly girl’s costume) silver neck and collar clasp on a base with five chains. Alka - almond-shaped Tatar earrings with turquoise. Tezma is a girl’s braided decoration made of two strips of braid with chased plaques and tassels at the end. Kalfak is originally a girl’s headdress made of factory-produced knitted silk fabric, embroidered with chenille and complemented by a fringe of gold threads. Boti is an amulet in the form of a soft triangular bag with sewn-up Koranic texts and magical symbols. According to legends, the “boti” hidden in the braided decoration endowed the girl with special beauty and fame. Borkanchek is a large brocade scarf (sometimes an uncut double of two scarves) that serves as a ritual veil for the bride.
