Lori-Ki's in @sonic-oc-showdown ! Last time, we all did a short Q&A - @bunnymajo asked if we're doing it again this year, and I said - OMG, YES!

Lori-Ki is a once-great, now minimum-wage odd-jobs worker on the ground floor of the Dark Egg Legion, doing dirty jobs as-and-when commanded. This is the bane of her existence, having been a once-legendary sniper. When Enerjak Knuckles tormented the Dark Legion, she was part of the surviving echidnas to lose her cybernetics, having run-of-the-mill cybernetics installed when Dimitri joined the Dark Legion with Eggman's forces.

In her past life, she had a cybernetic eye, and hearing which was unparalleled. She was a powerhouse; now reduced to a regular echidna with titanium legs, and a ridiculous multitool installed into her hands.

Questionairre below the cut;

✨- How did you come up with the OC’s name? Lori-Ki initially had a much more colourful colourscheme, of blues, oranges, and greens! She was named for the bird; the Lorikeet! Of course, the hyphonated name comes with the territory of being an Archie echidna.

🌼 - How old are they? (Or approximate age range) Lori-Ki is 26 years old.

🌺- Do they have any love interest(s)? She likes to think that she has a long-con love/hate thing going on with Eggman, that he is madly in love with her. She has this elaborate plot of how exactly she is going to turn him down, she's got a wedding planner diary for it. He has no idea who she is, and could not tell her apart from the next Legionnaire.

🍕 - What is their favorite food? Lori-Ki enjoys a good coconut. Not USUALLY wrestled from a chao which found itself floating through the Twilight Zone, but ..

💼 - What do they do for a living? Lori-Ki does odd jobs for the Dark Egg Legion; the combined forces of the Dark Legion's might, with Eggman's technological know-how. She finds this an insult, given that before her cybernetics were stripped, she had been a highly competent and high-ranking sniper for the Legion. She had once sported an impressive cybernetic eye, and unparalleled enhanced hearing; after Enerjak wiped her circuits for flesh and blood, she found herself subject to the mass-producing legionisation under Eggman's command, which gave her standard cybernetics; robotic legs, and an embarrassingly goofy mutli-tool between her left thumb and pinkie.

🎹 - Do they have any hobbies? She likes to make electronic music with Trearddur. She sits and gives her thoughts and opinions whilst he mixes it, occasionally offering vocals and new sounds for the recordings. Sometimes, she'll play a little music to add to the mix.

🎯 -What do they do best? Vindication! She used to be an incredible shot; since Enerjak removed her cybernetics, she had been trying to get them restored; Eggman wanted nothing to do with such a thing, barely even noticing her presence. This spurred into a vindicative obession...

🥊 -What do they love to do? What do they hate to do? She loves being paired up with Trearddur, and getting work done. They're thick as thieves, and used to be an incredibly efficient powerhouse duo in making the Legion run smoothly. This was a major source of pride. Anything she can do that makes things easier for everybody makes her happy.

❤️ - What is one of your OC’s best memories? Meeting Trearddur! They had met in their early 20's both grabbing a drink, and had become thick as thieves in an instant. Discovering that they were both on security, they fast became nigh inseperable, even their cybernetics slotting hand-in-hand.

✂️ - What is one of your OC’s worst memories? Being held at the mercy of Enerjak Knuckles was an incredibly traumatic event for Lori-Ki. The sheer power on show was terrifying; to be stripped of her cybernetics which were very much a part of her person was like losing a part of herself. Losing the abilities she previously had was incredibly debilitating for her; to have them replaced with unsuitable robotic parts was life-changing in the worst way.

🧊 - Is their current design the first one? Sort of! Yesn't. I tend to go through a design process over a few days, when working on OC's. I will create a few variations, and refine it from there.

🍀 - What originally inspired the OC? We were messing around in Sonic Projector RP, a Sonic fangame - we decided to go with the Dark Egg Legion, to mix things up a little. After messing around in Press Gardens crushing crates for rings, we fell in love with the idea of echidnas who were once great, now doing odd dirty jobs for Eggman.

🌂 - What genre do they belong in? Science Fantasy, and something about an allegorical hatred for the British Government's poor dealings with disabled people. (oh, you didn't get that subtext? ... Look, look with your special eyes?)

💚 - What is your OC’s gender identity and sexuality? Lori-Ki is 'maybe a girl, iunno' who is openly bisexual.

🙌 - How many sibling does your OC have? None! Lori-Ki is an only child.

🍎 - What is the OC’s relationship w/their parents like? She doesn't much know her parents; it's not unheard of in the Dark Legion - the Twilight Zone was unforgiving and harsh, and many children grew up in foster care.

🧠 - What do you like most about the OC? She is fantastic to roleplay as! Her combative wit and short temper which fades away to a 'NO JK JK JK LOLOLOL I heart your fucking makeup oh my god I love your hair' -- She's all of the passive agressiveness I dropped when I stopped being a scene teen. Gawd. HORRIBLE person to be around, but I LOVE her.

✏️ - How often do you draw/write about the OC? About once a month, at least. Mostly, we RP and LARP as her; that happens much more often. We'll brainstorm her quite often!

💎 - Do you ever see yourself killing off the OC? Her death would be reeeeally drab, symbolically; I'd prefer not to.

💀 - Does your OC have any phobias? She is terrified of overestimating her abilities; her brain has not quite caught up with the fact that she isn't as able as she was with her old cybernetics. She oft finds herself in sticky situations due to overestimating her sight and hearing, still learning her new limitations.

🍩 -Who is your OC’s arch-nemesis or rival? She thinks that it's Eggman. He's never even heard of her.

🎓 - How long have you had the OC? Wooh, only a year by now!

🍥 - What age were you when you created the OC? 23!

Velma Season 1 Review (Review for Weird Kev27)

Hello all you happy people and for this fine start of april we're looking at something that's been long overdue.

So something I've only expressed a little on this blog is that i'm a massive scooby doo fan. While I grew up with the world's greatest great dane and really loved mystery inc, over the last few years i've gone from simply appricating the series to being a massive fan with a decent amount of knowledge. Together with @jess-the-vampire we watched EVERY scooby do movie, we've binged most of the shows and i'ts given me an apprication for the franchise as a whole.

So naturally the first new series since i became a scooby head was a cause for .. cautious optimsim. Yeah while I liked Mindy Kaling's previous work with The Mindy Project and felt the idea of an adult scooby doo series had potetial the combination, i was tredpedatious as adult series can mean "excellently plotted comedy where you can have a plot about abusive parenting, bi erasure and the mafia in the same episode as a country set slaughter fest, said abusive parent putting dildo's everywhere because he assumes that's what gays like and an extra horny shark man who statistically has boned half of every room he's entered. Sadly.. Velma ended up this way, with the trailers presenting a show that not only didn't really care for Scooby doo, but picked the most obvious ways to deconstruct it while loudly scremaing

In lieu of actual adult conversations or themes. It had specks of those but it was mostly just obessed with proving how clever clever it was. So let's talk about tha tunder the cut eh?

Yeah while we WILL be hanging around for Scooby Doo, we are not talking Velma.. yet. I haven't even braved it just yet, as a combination of the counltess dickheads crticizing it for being "woke"…

The series making everyone but Fred POC was a GOOD idea .. it just seems couched in a lot of jabs that come off as them having never watched a damned scooby doo show past where are you. I'm not sayin gi'ts required to watch thousands of hours of scooby doo to make an SD property, but watching a FEW episodes of more recent series to make sure your stuff is fresh and checking to make sure yoru ideas are either new or a diffrent enough take on an idea to work. While i'm not sure if the writers of recent series like Mystery Inc, Be Cool and Guess Who? have seen EVERY scooby do thing, it's clear al lhave seen enough of the franchise and know it well enough to play with it, from making it a cosmic horror story , to a wacky comedy with Fred and Daph tweaked signifigantly, to a team up show that has Malcom McDowell take our heroes to a distopian future where Shaggy and Scooby have no tonly surivvieed this long but are fighting to the death.

I will give Velma a shot eventually and likely cover it too, but for now me and Kev just weren't all that invested. He might have me cover it later and if he decides not to I might still just do it anyway, but for now that's just not something i'm going to be doing

Instead.. .we're covering something that DIDN'T get released. Yeah as a special treat i'm taking a quick look at Scooby Doo and Krypto Too. SDAKT was supposed to be another scooby doo direct to video film, coming out to allign with the Super PEts MOvie, which I also need to see at some point. Problem is it was made during WB"s Tire Fire years, and it along with a HEX GIRLS MOVIE MY GOD YOU MONSTERS WHY DID YOU CANCEL THIS, were scrapped, and the latter was nearly complete.

That would've been the end and given the project was never even ANNOUNCED, as is common as Warner only tends to announce sd movies a few months before release, and Warner's Habit of locking good animatoin in indiana jones vaults.

Thankfully some brave soul we still don't know leaked the film, which not only leaves potetial for more of the stuff they've refused to release to get out there, but was a nice hearty fuck you to a company and president who prides trying to stop bleeding money in the sleaziest way possible over actually making things tha tmake money. I"ve been vocal as hell about The Warner Bros Discovery Tire Fire so you better belive me and Jess watched this asap. And if WBD had a problem with that.. they PROBABLY shoudl've let the film actually come out then instead of destroying months and sometimes years of effort and locking it in crate to make 5 dollars, as their's legally nothing they coudl do. They did try to remove the film, but this being the internet once it was out there they couldn't undo it and it's already in the wind as it damn well should be.

So naturally when Kev, after several diffrent ideas I won't say in case we end up going with them at some point, suggested this I was all on board. But when you strip away all the controversy what do you get?

WEll you get a pretty decent Scooby Doo Team Up Film. Scooby Doo DC Team UPs are far from new, going as far back as the Scooby Doo Movies, and only increasing once warner started syndergizing it's propertie smore While a LOT of it is naturally fitting team ups with the world's greatest detectives including a full on reunion movie for batman brave and the bold that I love dearly, they've also teamed up with the flash, wonder woman and even had a dc comic ENTIRLEY DEDICATED to team ups that featured my boys the doom patrol among MANY other deeper cuts and currently have one just for batman and the bat family.

It's still weird though to see them team up with Krypto, but not unwelcome. It helps for me at least that as a big comcis nerd.. I fucking love Krypto and as a teen got a two pronged attack that made me a lifelong fan of the pooch: Krypto showed up in Geoff John's run of teen titans as Connor's loyal canine (with Clark having given Connor his dog), and a mostly realstic dog who just happens to have kryptonian powers nad wear a cape. The other was the opposite an da series that's only grown on me with time, Krypto the Super Dog. While meant more for the preshool set, Krypto was still a LOT of fun, going in a more silver age direction, throwing in things like Streaky, Supergirl's cat in the comics, and Ace the Bathound and best of all the Dog Stars of the Universe, who I was shocked to fine werent just made up here to serve as Krypto's own Legion of Super Heroes.. actually existed in the comics. Why they haven't been brought back I don't know. you look at a bucnh of dogs with weird super powers in space and tell me it's not gold.

So finding out this existed was great. And honestly even putting aside the stupid shelving.. it's a solid DTV Scooby Film. i've watched all of them, not hyperbole, and while i've seen far better, including the recently released trick or treat scooby doo, this is still a fun entry.

The plot is kinda simple: The Gang visit Metropolis just as the Justice League has gone missing and no other heroes exist in this universe because plot convience. Our heroes are summoned by Daphne's old friend Jimmy Olseon to help Lois Lane look into this. Lois is perfectly played here too being fast talking, no nonsense and only not investigating herself because 80 thigns are going on at once with all the supervillians running riot. Jimmy less so as he thinks hea nd daph are together and has been telling people such when they never reallyd ated. We also get Fred being jealous of which I have some notes on.

I won't talk much about it. It's bad, it shoudl feel bad and the only saving grace is it's not DAPHNE IS JEALOUS OF SOMEONE BEING INTO FRED WHILE THEIR NOT TECHINCALLY A COUPLE PLOT #98. Seriously it happens a LOT. A LOTTTTTT.

We also get our usual parade of supsects: a foodtruck lady running challenge of the super fries, the local valet whose tired of super cars because Green Arrow apparently has a SECOND arrow car just for metropolis, and what have you. The main suspect and treat of the film though is Lex Luthor. Lex is played to hammy perfection, not only trying to buy the hall of justice but being open about being a buisnes scumbag and eventually being forcced by circumstance to work with our heroes, wtih him and velma playing off each other really well. Lex is easily the best part of the film. He also gets a great moment as while shockingly he's NOT behind it, his assitant mercy who in this continuity is in love with him and was tired of Lex being more buisness luthor and less mad scientest luthor was behind it to try and do an evil scheme since he wouldn't. I mean.. I can't see her complaint: Buisness scumbag luthor is STILL miles ahead of piss in a jar luthor.

Still it's a nice motive.. and Lex was not only AWARE the whole time , he only let it play out to see whta she could do and hacks her robots for her plan easily… then reveals he let her plan go ahead to buy time for his: to demolish the hall with giant robots. Naturally she loves this and they get together. It shows off both versions of luthor great: the cold buisness man who uses hsi money and cleverness as a weapon, and the mad genius who hates superman and wants to destroy something only tagnetally related to him out of spite. his evil dog rex even turns out to be a robot and knowing Krypto was around he put a chunk of kryponite in him and the robots

Krypto himself.. works really well and is the heart of the film. While Luthor is EAISLY again the best part, Krypto's main traits are shown off: he's loyal, loves his master and the feeling is mutual. Krypto was left behind by clark for his own saftey after the fight that sent the group into the phantom zone, and it's clear all Krypto wants is his master back. He dosen't get a ton of characterization fo ra movie based on him, but it's nice seeing his inherent bravery and invunerbality contrasted with the gangs cowardice or his confusion when in one bit , Shaggy triggers the kitchen, the JLA's danger room , and it makes it into an actual kitchen, with his confusion bein ga nice hint at the gag. We also get a real solomon grundy who just wanted to pet dogs. And how can I not relate to a fellow swamp monster who just wants to pet dogs?

The climax is great, wtih our heroes and various red herrings stepping in, a truly climactic figh tnad hero much like his master powring the fuck through even at his weakest. We get a heartwarming reunion.

Scooby doo and Krypto Too isn't a top tier, one in a millon DTV scooby movie but it's still an excellent one. And while NO FILM deserves the sheving WBD heaped on it, this film is an easpecially galling example of that and if you can find it out there, go do so. It's a fun tight 90 minutes. We return to our reguarlly scheduled nonsense in an hour or so. Thanks for reading.

Okay, so, somewhat of a response I cannot make to a thing I saw pop up on my dash. I cannot reply directly because the OP is someone who has me blocked (don’t ask). I just saw this thing re-blogged by someone who is a mutual about fandom-obsession and person showing off their merch. Their... many things of a same thing... yeah, wow. More power to you. Still, wow. And, yeah, it did make me feel better about my various fandom-obsessions. I don’t own any wearable She-Ra stuff, save for a couple of pins affixed to one of my game-system carriers, mostly because I don’t want to have to explain it to people... but I do own a lot of Zelda-shirts. Mostly Hyrule-crest, I had one Wind Waker stained glass window shirt that I wore out that I would like to replace. Zelda is a little more of a mainstream fandom, so I feel “less weird” in my geekdom with them. My shirts are different, though. Even the Hyrule crest shirts are... one that’s gold, one that’ s green-gold gradation. And it’s a solid design - just a good royal crest. Got jewlery, too, because the Triforce makes awesome jewelry. But... OP’s character-specific obsession makes me look back, specifically, to my Trigun-obsession from several years back and my ongoing love of Vash the Stampede. I had large official-merch dolls of him, both regular flavor and the toy-only Dark Vash that I used to cuddle like a teddy bear at night. Yeah, I did that, so maybe if they somehow read my post (unlikely) that will make them feel less weird. That was in my 20s. And I know how weird that is. But, man... Vash was like... it for me. And I’m glad that he was my main obsession for a while, my “character obession 101″ course because he was the kind of character that people wouldn’t harass you for being “immoral” over liking since he’s the hero of his story and is an interesting combination of a badass pacifist. Now, people would get into arguments with you over a love of Vash back in the days of late ‘90s early ‘00s anime-fandom precisely over the sustainability of his philosophy and the way he goes about it, but it all boils down to the kinds of arguments people have been making about “a time to kill” since the beginning of time and people really couldn’t fault your personal morals in liking the character - a paragon hero. In other words, comparatively, being a Hordak-fan is much harder because we both live in a wankier fandom-age and he’s a villain. Liking the guy who crushes nations is a tad different than liking the misunderstood outlaw who goes out of his way to not-kill and bears scars from doing everything necessary to save *everyone.* I do both, going from paragon hero to tragic villain in my character-loves, so I’ve seen the difference. ... If I ever crossed the streams, Vash would spare Hordak - absolutely no doubt. He’s with She-Ra on this one. Hell, Vash would probably try to make an argument for sparing Horde Prime if he could be contained / put in a place where he could no longer harm people. Vash be like that. *Imagines Vash and Hordak getting into a conversation about having abusive brothers.* (I actually read a fanfic once where there was a bit of Trigun crossover! It was a She-Ra main fic that crossed over a lot of different sci-fi through mention of other planets and the Planet Gunsmoke / Nomans Land was one of them, so yes, crossover can be feasable). God, there’s even some potential parallels in Clones and Plants... (Stop it, Shadsie, you’ve already got that Fallout crossover chewing your brain, you don’t need this)! By the way, you might see me wink off this blog into the ether when the 2023 reboot of the anime “Trigun: Stampede” comes out. First loves, you know. Even though by the trailer, I *hate* the new art-style, but...my boy will be back, so yeah. Anyway, I just felt like rambling. The OP did make me feel a little better about my weird fandom fixations, because... I’ve never had that many of the same shirt? Not even when I was going to anime conventions in a red longcoat I had commissioned with a garage-kit fake gun and belts over my arms to make a pretend prosthetic doing a cross-dress cosplay of my Fave of All Time.

This is a Japanese guitarist named Kazuhito Yamashita, and in every corner of the guitar-obsessed world, you'll find his video somewhere deep in the forum archives. I've talked a lot about my classical guitar heroes like Julian Bream, Manuel Barrueco, Jason Vieaux, but haven't mentioned Yamashita.

In almost every slice of life, there exists these boogeymen or monsters that were born for it, and devoted their lives to it. The globally known greats all know of these figures, and they're recognized as freaks even if they're outside of the public's main eye.

Yamashita almost solely exists in snuff films like these. He never had the international prestige that comes with HD cameras and a million $10k microphones, so we're left watching him in standard def thur camera mics.

Which leaves us with the feeling like we're watching Godzilla emerge from the depths. There isn't another guitarist with the combinations of skills he has...his chops are just absurd to a degree that humbles a techincally-obessed world like clasical guitar. The selection I chose to begin with is just a rapid-fire assault of licks weaving in and out of different keys, and he absolutely dominates it. Effortlessly.

He's done arrangements of a ton of the classical canon that wasn't composed for guitar. Symphonic pieces that guitarists never dared to try and tackle because we only have four operable fingers on each hand. And those outrageous chops always carry the day...literally the only way anyone can play these pieces if they have the technique this guy does.

I legitimately don't know how this guy isn't better known in guitar circles beyond this spooky boogeyman figure. He's an all-time mosnter. That's not hyperbole either...if it was just relegated to his chops and his arrangements, he'd be an all-timer.

The other guitar player in the video below is Larry Coryell. I've written about him before, he's one of these jazz giants that spanned a bunch of genres, and set the standard for early jazz fusion on guitar. Here, next to Yamashita, he's essentially a librarian hauled out from the books to play 2nd guitar.

Make no mistake...Larry Coryell is a hall of fame guitarist any way you cut it. And yet, watching this video gives the impression that he had no real business sharing the stage with someone like Yamashita.

Honestly, as much as I'd love more HD and well recorded shit from him, the fact that what we have is mostly SD snuff films kind of makes it better. The vid below has better sound quality, where you can hear just how powerful of a guitarist this guy is, and how he gets the top moving really well.

Maybe this is a stupid question, buuuuut:

I just can't imagine a world that Rhaegar comes back from the Trident, wins the war and becomes king. No, I'm not a anti Rhaegar, matter of fact I like him very much, I'm just can imagine how would Lya, little Jon, this whole affair, would settle in the capital. The norm that fics (at least those I read) tend to follow is to make Rhaegar:

1. A douche, paranoid and destiny-obessed king.

2. Completely incompetent, aloof monarch, that deep down has a heart of gold, but can't really be understood.

I mean, isn't he supposed to be a scholar since he was a kid? What's are your thoughts about it?

oh, yeah, i can totally understand this! it's is the whole point in canon actually, "the wrong man came back from the trident". you would expect a hero win against his antagonist and have a happy ending w his lady love but it doesn't happen. instead the subversion happens to them with rhaegar being killed by robert who becomes obviously a shitty king and lyanna dying after him. they were never supposed to have happy ending, they were created as tragic and doomed and dead from the beginning for the whole plot to start, jon to have his parentage mystery and dany to take the passed baton as the last dragon, prophesied savoir and the heir who has to carry entire house on her back now.

as for the realistic rhaegar wins aus that's the difficult question. tbh we just don't know enough abt their situation, plans and wishes. you see, e.g. in agot we can be right in ned's head and see his motivations, what he was thinking abt, what he was planning, what he was hoping to do. but if his story was told the way rhaegar's was i bet he would have his own crowd of haters and ~intellectuals~ jumping out every two seconds w their "hot takes" how actually all hints abt what rlly happened (ned being a good man w his own sense of honour, justice and experiences affecting him and the deal w cersei's children) doesn't matter and he was an ambitious prick, planned to grasp the power by being joffrey's regent and make his daughter sansa queen. (you can actually insert there any bullshit and still don't reach the level of stupidity of such "hot takes" this fandom loves so much lmao). also he would be blamed to the hell and beyond for being too stupid and not foreseeing the future and actions of other ppl bc ofc after everything happened it's so easy to say what was so obvious to notice. also they would say that the deaths of his men and horrible fates of his kids are 100% his fault and even straight up say he killed them lmao. i can rant abt it for hours so yeah. this is a situation w too many unknown variables bc it depends too much on actions of too many characters we don't know enough abt. the only thing it's possible to tell for sure is the fact that there couldn't be any perfect solutions since things got too complicated at this point.

such fics as you've mentioned tho are just a part of this dumb fanon where rhaegar is "too prophecy obsessed"/"incapable of love"/shrodinger's rhaegar both smart and stupid at the same time/whatever/all of this combined lmfao. the man was notably intelligent from the early age as you've absolutely rightly mentioned, his guesses abt himself being tptwp have nothing to do w egocentrism as some parts of the fandom would want us all to believe unless he wouldn't be so reasonable abt it and later on, after so many years, wouldn't have changed his mind and thought his son could be tptwp.

and literally fuck all antis that think you shouldn't consider prophecies that hold real power in this fantasy world lol. you know, aegon the conqueror was said to be motivated (or at least partly) to unify westeros by the prophecy and still got the treatment of perfect/maximum close to perfect figure of a leader everyone should look up to from the narrative and grrm. prophecy obsessed much, huh? i don't even talk abt all these parallels between him and rhaegar grrm put there not for bitches to ignore them completely! and i will never get tired of reminding that dismissing prophecies is UNWISE for targaryens of all people. the house whose story is built on the dream of young daenys and her father aenar that listened to her despite common sense (or what local "anti magic"/"anti prophecies" clowns consider to be common sense). targs would be as dead as the rest of dragonlords if not for daenys the dreamer. who else in the world has as many reasons to take prophecies seriously as them?

yet antis out there act as if rhaegar is one dimensional weirdo whose every character trait is abt mf ~prophecy obsession~. like how can they miss one of the main points so badly?? the game of thrones distracts ppl from the real danger beyond the wall, yk, the one rhaegar was aware of and meant to deal with. there wouldn't be such a problem if he became king and had as many years of head start before ice zombies apocalypse as ignorant bobby b did. rhaegar had to die just for westeros to sink in shit and our main heroes to save everyone to make this story more epic LMAO

so yeah, too many ppl portray rhaegar as this one dimensional robotic creature without any knowledge of what feelings are idk even for what reason. it seems these ppl can't read for real bc rhaegar was not only intelligent af as well as dutiful ("it seems i must be a warrior" but "he loved his harp more than his lance") but also. ugh emotional?? my boy had constant emo sessions w brooding at ruins of summerhall, sleeping out there beneath the stars all alone and writing songs that made all women cry. does it sound as someone who "isn't capable of love" lol? folks act as if he was completely heartless from the day he was born (bc he didnt play w other kids ig??) but in reality their emotional range is less than the one of a spoon in comparison to rhaegar's lol. i'm not even gonna address the horrible attitude of demonizing him for his implied depression, vile clowns never listen to themselves when they talk abt targaryens and their "madness".

tldr; these fics are mostly lame af and suck at characterization if they're making rhaegar like that lol. anyway his character isn't abt being a good or a bad king, it's abt being a would-be-king for characters in books and readers in reality to sigh over his tragic aura and pretty aesthetic abt how it could've been. however, grrm clearly doesn't write rhaegar as evil or incapable as some parts of the fandom would want to try to persuade others. realistically speaking in the scenario where he wins there couldn't be any perfect decisions but it's a territory of speculations on thin air and lit nothing more since canon doesn't provide us with enough information to rlly theorize anything instead of building biased headcanons some ppl call "analysis".

but remember what barristan said about rhaegar while practically watching him all his life, from a literal baby to the man grown:

I wanted to do a little end-of-year wrap up for my writing year! In 2021 I wrote a total of 20 new fics (listed below) which equaled 82,647 new words. I continued updating two ongoing fics (Out of Time and Birds of a Feather) with my combined new and continuing word count totaling 319,528. I wrote my first ever smut fic and then two more. For the second year in a row I made Founders Week my own personal HashiMada Week. I really got into series and now I have 7 total (of which only two are finished lol).

All of the ‘top stats’ are occupied by Out of Time. She is the monster supreme with the most words, kudos, hits, comments, bookmarks, subscriptions, and every other stat conceivable. I have to squint and zoom in to see any stats next to hers lol.

Fireproof was the fic that surprised me most this year, taking the 2nd spot of most kudos of 2021 with 199. It is the oldest stand-alone fic but it’s G and only 600 words.

It’s always tough for me to choose my favorite thing I’ve written because I love everything I write (otherwise I wouldn’t write it) but my favorite completed fic of this year is Spells or Sweets, followed very closely by The Consummation of Treaties and Marriages Alike.

This was really interesting to look back on. So often I feel frustrated with how little I think I write because I have so many ideas and I can’t get them out fast enough but I don’t think I’ve ever written 300K words in a single year 😅 Personal best! With that in mind, I feel a lot more accomplished and proud of myself.

Looking forward to the new year where I’ll write even more! (It should be no surprise, but I think it bears mentioning, absolutely every one of these fics is hashimada. Obessions, baby!)

I miss doing stuff like this so I’m here after reading the one @ccprovolomies did :D

How did you find out about anime?

I watched anime all my childhood without knowing I was (Saint Seya, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Doremi, Digimon, Pokemon, etc)

It was only until around 5th or 6th grade when the boys in class were excitedly talking about Naruto that was broadcasted on cable TV with Portuguese subtitles

(Which thank goodness at the time because now they only dub and I don’t expect kids to grow up and study Japanese like I did because they love dubbed stuff. I talk for myself I can’t watch Doraemon or Ninja Hattori unless it’s Spanish dubbed because that’s how I watched it as a kid)

that I discovered it was something Japanese

Also, it’s weird how my cousin would know how to do the jutsus signs but we never talked about animanga stuff until I brainwashed him into One Piece (I spent our 8th grade summer talking about every arc I watched and we’re talking about 500 epis at the time -.-’ )

What’s your favorite anime?

I have to say One Piece, because Oda-sensei is a genius in how detailed the artwork and specially the plot is. Like the manga is the same age as I am and there’s little stuff that happened all those years ago that connect to the present day. My mind gets blown away with it.

Also let me say I’m not a comedy person and the funny things in OP was a major block to start it but now I love it, I was a happy laughing 114-year-oldgirl that summer...Aside from that one, I’m all over the place in taste, like, my MyAnimeList has 800 completed and watching combined entries. I’m majorly a shounen & sports girl, but I like romance and shoujo ones too. Slice of life if they aren’t too slow and I run away from most comedy (I’m sorry Gintama and @ccprovolomies )

Do you have a favorite J-music/K-pop group/singer?

Regarding K-pop, just read my blogs description J-music is difficult to summarize because I listened to all openings and endings of those 00s and early 10s animes

When is your bday? And how old are you?

Today (26/03) I turn 25 and I’m ready for the quarter of a century existential crisis combined with all the 2020s drama still going on

Currently, what is your favorite fandom anime?

Sadly I don’t do much fandom interactions on Tumblr, but I follow One Piece and Avatar the Last Airbender through Facebook (which is a lot of print screened stuff from here ahahah) I was surprised to see how many people are on the Akagami no Shirayukihime, Akatsuki no Yona and Ao no Exorcist fandom, when I made posts about it the 100 notes came quickly!!

Despite the ups and downs of Tumblr, what motivates you to stay here today and do your best?

I know people from the old age, but I only started in 2016 during college and the start of my K-Pop era (which I delayed from centuries because I knew what a rabbit hole it was - like I listened to BoA, 2ne1 and Big Bang in Japanese only)

What motivates me? Organisational obession and a liking of GIF posts mostly

Before it was to be updated with K stuff, now it’s mostly for pretty stuff/artistic things/social awareness/anime & tv series

I come here to distract myself through destroying the always growing 1000 drafts and pinpoint how my queue will be scheduled (always alternative posts) and enjoy myself checking up all the blogs that give me notes like you @ccprovolomies

4 hours to go - Yandere!Satan x fem!reader (NSFW)

@thirsthourdemon, it is time for day 22 of @yandere-sins‘s Yantober list! I decided to combine a request and a prompt for this one; it turned out to be absolute smut, oop. I’m not sure if I managed to check off all the things you wanted, anon, but I nonetheless hope you enjoy what I wrote for prompt 22: obession

Satan wasn’t sure how long they’d been in this train for, but he sure as hell was ready to get out.

He and (Y/N) were sitting next to each other in the empty train cart, his arm slung around her shoulder. The train almost appeared to be something straight from the 1940’s with how robust and rusty it appeared to be. They had specifically chosen to ride this train, since it was one of the few ways to go to the mysterious inn in the mountains where they had made a reservation for the weekend. (Y/N) had seen the beautiful location of the inn and the hot springs connected to it and was begging Satan to go along with her. He was delighted to go; his dear kitten wanted to spend time with him, so that’s what he’ll do.

However, (Y/N) had failed to mention that the train ride was about 6 hours long, and they were only on hour 2.

Satan cursed at himself for not bringing more books with him, before glancing at (Y/N), who still had a book in her hands.

She looked at the pages with an intensity that was only present on her face when she was completely lost in something. With a slight frown of concentration on her brow, her eyes darted around on the pages. Her hand was on her mouth, index finger dragging across her lower lip slowly. Occasionally she pulled her hand away to turn the page, but then it went right back to playing with her lips.

The sight made Satan want to touch her lips, too. An idea suddenly popped in his head. After he looked around to check if no one was around, he placed his hand on her bare knee, caressing it softly. (Y/N) didn’t give him a reaction; she simply turned the page again.

With a mischievous smirk, Satan let his hand creep up higher, letting it graze the fabric of her skirt. When he had slipped his hand under her skirt, (Y/N)’s concentration was broken. She saw the hand on her leg and looked at Satan with wide eyes. “No, we’re in public!”

Satan simply grinned at her and leaned in close to her face. With his other hand, he turned her head to face him properly, and with their lips only inches apart, he whispered: “I don’t see anyone else around.”

His hand kept creeping up, almost touching her panties. After rubbing the inside of her thighs, he let his fingers graze lightly over her slit, making shudders run down her spine. (Y/N)’s face turned beet-red and she stammered excuses, almost dropping her book in the process. Satan managed to catch the book before it slipped out of her hands. In a teasing voice, he said: “Just focus on the book, dear.”

(Y/N) tried to do as she was told, but his fingers sliding over her heat made it harder and harder to concentrate on the words in front of her. She bit her lip in a futile attempt to silence her moans, but it was no use; within mere minutes, she had completely molten against his touch, her legs spread wide. Her book was left dangling helplessly in one hand while with the other she clutched Satan’s wrist.

“Do I make you feel so good, kitten? You’re so wet already,” Satan whispered in a husky voice. Before she could say anything, Satan had pushed her panties to the side and was teasing her entrance with his index finger, while his thumb worked on her clit. Why Iron Fey means so much to me

Its the tenth anniversary of iron fey today, we’re getting new covers to celebrate but i want to go on why I love this series so much.

When i was first getting into iron fey i needed to find myself the combination of a breakup that i’ve been struggling to get past for a few years now and realizing i was way too obessed over pjo and didn’t like where the series was going at the time. My friend recommended iron fey for me. Let me tell you, it was love at first sight. Meghan Chase was a character i quickly fell in love with. She was an emotinal character with a lot of moods just a fun character to read. as iron king went on i fell more and more in love with her her need to save her brother but at the same time the moods she would drop were just very relateable. I love her so much. and Iron king’s ending was just amazing i was so proud of myself when i got to the ending.

Jron daughter... ugh that book held a speical place in my heart. I know this book is really hated by a lot of people but to me its special. The start was very angsty and this is where meghan and ash are at their most angst. But that darn ending, that amazing beautfuil ending that made me squeel really loud and juts made me feel warm and fuzzy, on that note, Meghan and Ash is such an amazing parnig for me. I’m a very ugly person, I get called that a lot by people in my area Meghan was also concidered ugly and yet the fact she managed to get prince ash really does make me feel repsentated and makes me hopeful that I’ll fall in love again but its more then just me, these two babies just care and support each other. they’re protective, kind, and both respect each other so much.

On to Iron queen, ugh, this book. Its perfection at its finest. the shipping, the sap, the development. the emotion. everything bout it was perfect and that ending. THAT DAMN ENDING, HOLY FREAKING CRAP!! It was so heart breaking! to see how much meghan held on to ash and to see her let him go cause she wanted him to live above all else...ugh thats love.

Iron Knight: This book is strange for me, cause for the most part I was iffy on this book. one, I was very disappointed at the love triangle thing with ariella. Not that i don’t like ariella i love her a lot but I just felt the side tracking was annoying, when Ash finally rejected ariella.... THATS where this book shines, we learn bout ash. the evil stuff he did. we finally get what it meant for meghan to love him. To accept and forgive him for what he did. and he did a lot of bad things. and The moments where ash is going on bout how much he loves Meghan. and that he’ll do anything to be with her and humans can’t be weak caues MEGHAN isn’t weak. ugh be still my heart. and that sappy sweet ending....ugh it was so cute and i read it whenever im sad.

Iron fey is so important to me though ive probally done a crap job of explaining why. i don’t get my thoughts down well but i just love these books and im so excited for call of the forgotten which i still need to read and the new book iron raven

"I don't think that's how you do it" Alex mutters as he stares at the pile of tubes that I have laying around.

"I know what I'm doing" I grunt, sticking the pole into the hole, the tent starting to look like an actual tent.

"Have you ever done this before?" He asks as he hands me the next piece.

"Of course" I bite my lip as I push hard on the pole until it stands correctly like the other ones.

"This is your first time" Alex chuckles as I look back at the tent, ready to be used.

"Yup" I grin, pressing the palm of my hands against my shorts to clean some of the sweat.

"Well, it looks decent so that's good" He plants a kiss on the top of my head before turning around to see the others placing their tents.

"So quickly?" Jensen frowns when he notices we are done.

"I give it a couple of hours before it falls" Jared smirks when I try to flip him off.

"You are just jealous because I finished first" I stick my tongue out at him only to have Odette do the same.

"You are a bad example for my kids, Y/N" Jared glares at me, obviously kidding.

"I can teach the kids how to make a tent unlike their father" I say smugly, picking up Odette from the sand.

"Can you stop bickering and make the fire?" Gen raises her eyebrow, not amused by our five year old attitudes.

"On it" Alex brings some of the wood we collected to the center, the tents making a circle around it.

All the families have a tent for themselves, meaning that Alex and I are sharing which I don't mind at all. But I am nervous, tho. We have been sharing a room all of these days but today we are sharing a tent so there's not gonna be a lot of space between us. Do I want to have space? I mean, have you seen the guy? Who would want space?

"Babe, can you pass me the matches?" Alex asks me without looking up at me as he places the wood in a little pile.

I feel my ears getting hot and my cheeks a deep shade of red as I stand there without moving. I hear the girls giggle and so does Alex, turnibg around to see what the fuss is all about.

"What?" He asks frowning as Misha wiggles his eyebrows.

"Babe" Jared mocks him as Jensen makes some kissy sounds.

"Oh, leave him alone" Gen swats Jared's arm, glaring at Jensen and Misha.

I turn to look act Alex, expecting him to be embarrased about the jokes the guys are making but he just gives me a breath taking wink before turning back to the fire. This guy is going to be the death of me.

"Y/N, can you help us?" Mason calls my attention as she and the other kids are trying to make open up the packets to make smores.

"With pleasure" I smile at her as she hands me the marshmallows' bag.

I spend a couple of minutes with the kids, playing with the sand, as we wait for Alex to light up the fire.

"You can do the smores, now" Alex informs us so the kids move to sit around it, keeping a safe distance.

"Not bad" I shrug, wrapping my arms around his waist as we watch the kids to make sure they don't get burned.

"I'm sorry" He mutters, moving his eyes between me and the kids.

"For?"

"Calling you that in front of everyone" He bites the inside of his cheek. "I don't know if you liked it or not or if it-"

I stop him with a quick kiss, smiling against his lips. "I loved it"

"Really?" His faces softens, giving me a side smile.

"And that wink almost knocked all the air out of me" I chuckle when his smile turns into a smirk. "You don't know the things you do to me, Calvert"

"Can we go for a walk?" He asks me, a sparkle in his eyes that makes me want to kiss all of his face.

"Guys, we are going for a couple of minutes" I shout, not even looking to see if the guys heard me.

Alex grabs my hand, guiding me as we move away from the group. The sky is a combination of pink and purple tones, the sun almost gone behind the mountains.

Alex starts laughing as he wraps his arms around me, nuzzling my neck. I love when he laughs like that. That laugh that is almost just smiles and pure happines, his eyes barely opened. It's contagious, at least to me.

"What?" I grin as he places a kiss over my shoulder, hugging me tighter.

"I just... We came here being just friends, occasionally flirting but nothing much. And now we are here and I can't imagine holding anyone in my arms as the sun sets, other than you" He turns me around, arms still around. "I'm being too cheesy. Is this too much?"

"No, because I don't anyone else to hold me between their arms as the sun sets, other than you" I bring my arms up around his neck so that I can pull him down to meet my lips.

"I know that I have called myself your boyfriend and that I said we were dating" He chuckles when I roll my eyes, remembering when he was jealous. "But I want you to be as sure as I am about this so-"

I place my hand over his mouth, stopping him. "Alex Calvert, do you want to be my boyfriend?"

"I-" He stares at me for a couple of seconds, trying to hold back a laugh. "Yes, I do"

"Great" I pull him again but he already knows what I'm going to to so he meets me halfway, connecting our lips in the most heart shattering, ground shaking kiss.

I don’t know who's hands belong to who but it doesn't matter because Alex is kissing me and I am kissing him and it's everything you expect in life. His lips are really y soft but the kiss is hard and his hands hold me in place, wrapped around him.

"Stop it" I whine as Jared takes my smore once again. "Gen"

"Jared, I don't want to repeat myself, behave" She warns him.

"Accusing me with my wife, very mature" He mocks me, making an ugly face.

"You keep taking my food" I pout, making another smore before moving it around the fire.

"Sharing is caring, Y/N" Misha gives me his judgy face before turning to Alex. "I hope you teach better manners to my grandkids"

"Are you girls going to the convention in a couple of weeks?" I decide to ignore Misha, looking back at Gen, Vic and Dee.

"I think so" Danneel looks back at Gen, waiting for her answer but since she just took a bite, she just nods back.

"Me too" Vicky smiles at me as she hands a napkin to Gen.

"You won't have to deal with these guys in your own" Gen finally manages to speak, some chocolate left between her teeth.

"You say that like Y/N is an angel" Jensen huffs sipping at his beer. "She can be the devil if she wants to"

"And she tends to want to" Alex laughs but stops when I elbow him slightly.

"Careful or you'll end up sleeping outside" Jared warns him, earning a laugh around the circle.

"I'm kidding" Alex kisses my cheek, smiling slightly when I try to pull away.

"You should be thanking us, Y/N" Jensen puts his beer down, near his chair. "If it wasn't for us, you and Alex would still be on denial"

"Excuse me?" Dee narrows her eyes, leaning closer to Jensen. "It's thank to us"

"Your plan sucked" Vicky grins, Jensen frowning almost as if he was insulted.

"It did not" Jared fights back only to have Gen snort.

"Babe, your plan to ask me out was pretty bad" She laughs when he stares at her. "You are lucky you are really cute because your flirting skills are not that good"

"And yet you still fell for me" He winks at her before covering her lips with his.

"I wonder what went wrong" I laugh but Jared throws me a sea shell to my head, before turning back to his wife.

"I'm exhausted" I yawn as Alex pulls me closer to his chest.

Everyone is already at their corresponding tents and the fire is out, leaving only the moon to give us some light.

I close my eyes, my heart beat slowing down as I feel Alex's under my head.

"When should we tell the fans?" Alex's voice makes me open my eyes.

"I think we should let it happen organically" I mumble, closing my eyes again as he runs his fingers through my hair. "I don't want to make a public announcement, it feels...weird"

"Fake" I feel him nod, as my eyes get heavier by the second.

"Exactly, now how about we sleep?" I hug him tighter, hiding my head between his neck.

"Good night" He whispers, rubbing circles in my back.

We stay in silent for a couple of seconds, just the sound of the water hitting the sore and the crickets hiding in the trees.

That's until I feel something soft land over me.

"Y/N" Alex sights but doesn't move.

"What is it?" I don't even open my eyes, too tired to even try.

"The tent just went down on us" I know he is trying to hold back a laugh by how his voice sounds.

"Fuck me" I open my eyes to see that we are trapped under the poles and the fabric.

"Okay but how is that going to fix the tent?" Alex asks me with a humorous tone in his voice.

"Get your mind out of the gutter and let's fix this" I groan, trying not to laugh back so that he can take me seriously.

Like I said.

He is going to be the death of me.

"Told you" Jared's shout startles me, reminding me of what he said about my tent.

"Shut up, Big Foot" I groan, pushing back the tent so that we can fix it.

note: this guide is a combination of my own experiences suffering from ocd for almost 20 years, coping mechanisms i’ve learned through therapy, and information from online – all of which will be sourced. tw: mental illness, OCD, anxiety, mentions of self harm. tread lightly.

WHAT IS OCD?

“Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) features a pattern of unreasonable thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead you to do repetitive behaviors (compulsions). These obsessions and compulsions interfere with daily activities and cause significant distress.” (source)

At its core, OCD is any anxiety disorder. My OCD specialized psychologist refers to it as the ‘doubting disorder’ which, I think, is a good way of describing it.

Obsessions –

Intrusive thoughts are a hallmark of OCD. These can include unpleasant images along with the thoughts.

Compulsions –

Examples of compulsions can include:

Checking (”did i lock the door? “is my oven off?”) which can cause someone to check to make certain they’ve completed tasks. This can lead to doubts, leading one to check they’ve completed them up to hundreds of times a day.

Hand washing. One might believe if they don’t wash their hands excessively, they can get ill and may even pass away.

Rumination. If you’ve had an intrusive thought, you might fixate on it. Is it something you truly desire to do? Does this make you a bad person? Dwelling upon these thoughts can trigger anxiety attacks or other compulsions.

Skin picking. This can be done without realizing or to reduce momentary anxiety. It can result in scarring which can embarrass the person despite feeling it necessary at the time.

Hoarding. Many people are surprised this is associated with OCD as they only know of the cleanliness aspect. People suffering from this are afraid throwing things away or getting rid of them will cause disastrous consequence and subsequently results in significant distress.

Avoidance. It feels easier to avoid the things which cause anxiety rather than put yourself in what will prove to be a distressing situation. This coincides with isolation, including not speaking to family members or friends whilst having particularly difficult intrusive thoughts to “protect” them.

Seeking reassurance. This is the opposite of avoidance. You may want to know someone doesn’t think your thoughts are horribly evil and terrible, nor whether what you’re thinking is real.

Performing rituals. Most people do not experience a sense of pleasure, but do feel as though this will reduce their anxiety.

DEALING WITH OCD:

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT)

One of the proven ways in dealing with OCD is attending regular CBT sessions. These can teach you healthy ways in dealing with your obsessions without falling into compulsions.

Exposure and response prevention (ERP)

Putting yourself in a situation in which you know without a doubt you will be tempted to engage in compulsions.

This is usually done when you are in a safe situation – primarily with your therapist.

It is proven to be the single most effective way of recovering from your disorder.

Medication

This is a choice for each person. Not everyone will go on medication and they will still have an equal chance of recovery!

Commonly, antidepressants such as SSRIs will be prescribed for OCD.

One might have to try more than one medication – I’ve been on three myself – before finding on that works for them.

Mindfulness

There are many ways to practice mindfulness which can include:

meditation

grounding techniques (I would suggest checking this out if you suffer from any anxiety!)

deep breathing

& more

This is suggested by many psychiatry professionals as a way of dealing with your obessions.

HOW TO PORTRAY THIS DISORDER:

Your character does not have to display every symptom of OCD.

This falls into cliches, like you’ve read the symptoms and you’re ready and rearing to go (sans research).

They can perform a compulsion without you mentioning it again in the situation.

Hey, I’ll be standing and chatting with someone then bite my nails or stutter. It’s not important to fixate on if we’re being realistic. Someone I’m chatting with isn’t going to focus on it (unless they’re an asshole then pce out), so why would you if you’re writing a character?

Your character does not have to tell everyone they have OCD.

Some people do and, hey! More power to them!

It is not required for someone to tell everyone what they’re going through.

Our lives do not revolve around our illness, no matter how acute it is.

Not every coping mechanism someone will deal with is a compulsion!

Some practice mindfulness, meditation, grounding, deep breathing.

Try incorporating positive coping techniques in your characters life!

There are different severities of OCD, like any mental illnesses.

Whether your character has learnt to deal with their obsessions, or is at a point where the disorder is disabling, they are still valid in their struggles.

HOW NOT TO PORTRAY THIS DISORDER:

Mental illness are not an edgy character advice you can add for the angst ™

When seeing people portray many mental illnesses, I encounter them a lot of times using the disorder as a dirty little secret or as the one personality trait they have. As with any illness, we are not our disorder and some people are open about their disabilities.

Your character is not OCD. They have OCD.

I’m a writer. I’m a fan of DC superheros. I’m in love with my girlfriend. I’m not OCD. I am all of these things, and I just so happen to have OCD.

Someone with OCD is a normal person, who also has an illness. (Please remember this applies to all other disabled people as well :))

IN CONCLUSION:

please don’t say you’re ‘so ocd’ or ‘ocd about xxx’

yes, it’s a colloquialism.

yes, it does hurt.

as with portraying any sort of illness you don’t experience yourself, i would suggest doing more research! this is simply a basic guide which might be bias towards my own experiences. everybody is different. their experiences are different. each person or character with ocd isn’t going to be identical. if you have any extra questions, feel free to contact me and i would love to help you out!

Prince of Wishful Thinking (Tom Retrospective): Tough Love or The True Monster

Hello all you happy people and welcome back to Prince of Wishful Thinking, what is usually my look at the life and times of Tom Lucitor but since I NEED to cover the season 3 finale as vital part of Tom’s story, we’re taking one last look at the tragic tale of Meteora Butterfly before the finale sends these two stories hurtling together. You’d THINK this would be the last detour of this already sizeable arc.. and you’d be wrong as i’ll also be covering Kelly’s World, as I feel it’s vital for both “Curse of the Blood Moon” and “A Boy and his hard to remember title”, as it provides extra context for Marco’s anguish in the former.. and provides extra evidence for why a CERTAIN MOMENT in the latter pisses me off to no end.. seriously even when as universe dies and the only people left are Frankllin Richards and Galactus, there will still be a little note reading “Fuck how they treated Kelly” written in all caps so Galactus remembers to yell it.

So sadly that DOES mean it’s been three entries in this retrospective in a row that either haven’t feature Tom at all or in the case of the last episode only had him in short cameos. I mean we did get his love affair for pie but we also got a creepy goblin man forcing his girlfriend and best friend to kiss each other, his best friend being WAY to eager to jump to that conclusion, and neither considering using Marco’s Scissors because the writers only remember he has those half the time in Season 3... and clearly I ddn’t either as I forgot to mention that plot hole, something @jess-the-vampire brought up to me. Sadly I DID forget to consult on this when we talked earlier this week , and she’s not online as I write this so I won’t have her insight for this one.

But if you want some Tom content, i’m happy to share my crossover ship for the boy with you. I’ve been shipping him with Octavia from Helluva Boss lately. Because of course it’s Helluva Boss, i’ve not been at all subtle with my obession with it and much like Letterkenny, X-Men and Dragon Ball Z Abriged it is a love I never plan to be subtle about.

But I just think they compliment each other well: They have contrasting atittudes, and tastes in music, but seem like they’d share hobbies. Like taxidermy.. I could see Tom buying this... demonic combination of a badger, a skunk, a deer and my nightmares Octavia is preciously holding up.

Granted I also feel tom would both animate them with their dead souls.. and then use his new woodland friends of the dammned as a chorus to sing “Can You Picture That” from the Muppet Movie, because that’s what my mind does on a regular day. I think the contrasting attitude creates great chemstiry and it made me also realize I have a thing for ships with directly contrasting home lives. Tom has two loving decent parents who deeply love one another and at worst simply didn’t reign in his worse behavior because it was standard for demon stuff. Octavia in contrast simply has two parents, one who DOES love her and tries his best, but his best includes calling his side piece “My big dicked blitzy” right in front of her and hiring said side piece to guard them, and her mother who clearly thinks so little of her daughter’s emotional well being she hired a cowboy to shoot her daddy dead in the middle of a large crowd. The point is I think they’d be adorable and they both badly need to be happy after being emotionally fucked over by people they care about.

But alas my new ship will have to wait as we marginally important things to get down too.. things that will impact both this season and the next’s endgame and utterly destroy Eclipsa and Moon’s relationship for good. Sound fun? Well if so join me under the cut won’t you?

We open in the Pidgeon Kingdom.. and things aren’t exactly great.. and by that I mean Meteora stomped a hole through it and ravaged the place and Rich demands blood.. and vengance.. and possibly blood vengance. But not Tekken Blood Vengance.. he already has like 5 copies of that on dvd. Still needs it on Blu Ray though, hook him up if you got it.

So Moon and Eclipsa are trying to smooth this over/find out which way did she go George which way did she go, and are angrily dismissed after they try Rich’s patience, not helped by Eclipsa not being familiar with the Pidgeon Kingdom because they hadn’t slaughtered everyone who used to live there yet. Look that’s what happened, Star outright mentions in the Big Book of Spells that htey suddenly sprung up where another kingdom was and no one knows what happens. There was some bird murders up in that place.. or birdur if you will. Some birds drank some human blood. This is what Alfred Hitchock tried to warn us about with his film built on horrifying actress abuse.

The point is with some more pidgeon-led murder stabbings on the cards our heroines are trying to find her since their attempts to convince Rich not to go on an Archer Style Rampage fell on deaf ears.

But it’s clear from the second the two are alone both have diffrent priorties: Eclipsa desperatley wants to find the daughter she lost and talk her down from what sh’es become, help her become better and hopefuly heal from the pain she’s been in. She’s lost her husband, her kingdom and centuries. She can’t loose her baby girl too.

Moon on the other hand... clearly has no intrest in helping Meteora or stopping this peacefully. Her first thought is stopping Meteora. Her living through it is not necessary. It’s also clear her racisim isn’t REMOTELY gone depsite Buff Frog and Star’s best attempts and despite learning just how deeply and horribly Mewni’s engrained racism has hurt eclipsa and destoryed Moon’s own family history. To Moon this is just a big monster to fight.. i’ll dive into this more in a bit.

For now our heroines encounter an angry mob. This time their not here for Homer Simpson, but for Meteora as her rampages have destroyd their towns, livelehoods and given some weird guy a hat. It’s the best bit of the episode and i’m embarassed I forgot it happened.

So with them being no help our queens back out but end up finding some actual help: Eddie! You know the guy from the episode I skipped over... River’s cousin or something like that. He dosen’t have a wiki entry, I do not know why. He’s voiced by Rhys Dharby of Flight of the Conchords Fame whose since made quite the career as a voice actor. No major roles yet that i’m aware of, but a lot of delightful minor ones like this. It’s good to see him he was one of the highlights of that show and not just because he sang this..

Eddie showed up in the Bog Beast of Boggabah and I honestly forgot he was in this episode.. but again, it’s Rhys Dharby. It’s not like suddenly finding out “Aw god dammit Pauly Shore is in this”. So Eddie agrees to help as he’s been tracknig Meteora.. and we find out something troubling: Meteora is getting BIGGER. Gradually, to the point the bog from said episode Is skipped over is drained because she DRANK IT. We also get a great exchange “I’d hate to see the size of her mother” “Actually her father more than helped with that”

Awwwww.... seriously Esme Blanco is a national treasure and has some great deliveries in this one.. and some heartbreaking ones. But before we can get to that it turns out Meteora sucked the powers out of Eddies family.. who he misses..e xcept one guy> That guy can fuck right off. Seriously Eddie is also a national treasure and I wish he’d shown up in season 4. I mean he couldn’t of HURT it. For one it’s Rhys Dharby and for another that season shot itself in the face, both feet, the groin and then the face again enough that I don’t think anything could hurt it as bad as the writers already did.

But sadly we say farwell to Eddie as he goes out how men have since the begining of time.. deciding to poke a strange creature till it murdered him. Or took his soul out in this case, speaking of which...

Yeah while I couldn’t get Jess in time for this review, she did bring this up in the past: Meteora’s ablility to pull a

Comes right the fuck out of nowhere with no build up and no explination for it. She DID drain personalites and according to this episode youth.. but that was with a big ole machine. It MIGHT have been intended to be one of Globgor’s powers.. but that makes zero sense, as if he COULD do that, as we saw with Toffee last season when he had that power, also out of nowhere but at least it made a touch more sense given his power was draining magical energy anyway at the time, so adding souls to that isn’t a huge stretch, but as we saw that would’ve been game over for the comission, especially since we DO see him fighting them one on three next season. If he had this power, he wouldn’t be in crystal and I think they realized that, but just tried to act as if his daugther COULDN’T do that and assumed everyone would casually forget. And I get not accounting for me writing about this years later, even I wouldn’t of thought that, but not counting on fans both young and old to latch onto a continuity error? Have you met fandoms Disney, have you? It dosen’t bring the story down entirely and I get WHY ti’s there, so she can nonlethally kill people so we’re not down most of the cast for Season 4, but it feels like an easy win button and one she barely uses despite it being eye beam activated. It should be easy enough to pull, boom, soul suck, win, rinse and repeat. It’s okay to have uber powerful tequniques but they have to have a drawback. For instance the Kaioken from DBZ. It’s a really damn cool technique that gives the user a neat red aura and amplifies poewr.. but the more you amplify the more strain it puts on your body and the more likely you’ll die, and Super later creatively explained why it hadn’t been used since Super Sayian was introduced because said form would’ve sped it up so much it’d be too much for a body to take. Here whie Meteora dosen’t use it in EVERY fight, she uses it enough that it makes no sense this isn’t just her first move for every fight she gets into, mental breakdown or not.

That being said Meteora’s current mental state as she talks to her mother, having regressed to talking in only a few words and acting like a child, makes perfect sense. Henious already wasn’t in great mental shape to begin with, having a slow sustained breakdown since Marco overthrew her. and now on top of this she remembers her whole life has been a lie, starts to mutate into her natural state at a rapid and likely unehalthy pace, and then finds out on top of all of this Mewni is rightfully owed to her. Given she ended last episode blowing a guy up for rejecting her, it’s not a stretch that given even more power and no time to process anything, Metora would deteroate further.

Esme and Jessica really knock this scene out of the park as Eclipsa presents Metora with her old doll Bobo and gently trying ot talk to her.. but you also get the fear Eclipsa feels as she tries to awkardly manuver around the fact her daughter is far more unhinged than she was prepared for, even threanting Eclipsa simply because Eclipsa wanted to be called mother instead of mommy. But despite this fear.. Eclipsa wants to help and Walter beautifuly captured metoera as a hulk like tragic figure:a being with low sanity and too much power desperate to be loved by the one person it cares about. And it makes it even more heartbreaking as Eclipsa explains what happened: bad people trapped her , a disfunctoinal society with a racist queen and even more racist subjects has taken hold in her absence... and it’s clear both want opposite things: Meteora wants what sh’es owed, her family back on the throne and Mewni back in her graps, but has lost herself so much to rage, anger and insanity she can’t see it’s not hers to take, while Eclipsa.. just wants her daughter back. She’d be happy just settling down with her and having a LIFE after hers was taken away. Eclipsa just wants a chance to be with what family she has left. It just HURTS to know that despite RIGHTFULLY hating the comission, despite having eveyr reason to take the crown from Moon by force and make the world better by force.. she dosen’t want that. She just wants some peace. It’s selfish... but it’s hard not to be when you havealmost nothing to hold onto. Eclipsa has lost her legacy, her husband and her crown... Meteora is all she has and all she wants and sh’ed of been happy if she just accepted that. If that was enough.

But the real telling part, and the thing that ultimately makes this go as bad as it does.. is Moon’s reactions to all of this. Sh’es CONFUSED by Meteora having a toy as if that’s foreign to her a monster would, and she’s cleaerly livid , if restrianing it, at both Meteora’s deire for the crown and Eclipsa RIGHTFULLY calling out the state of how things are, and mildly at that. Despite seeing how much damage Mewni’s inherent racisim has done, how it lead to her living a lie, ruined Eclipss, Globgore and Metora’s lives, despite how DESPERTLY her daughter struggles to fight against it, despite seeing firsthand that Monsters can have famiies and lives... she can’t let it go. She can’t see monsters as people. SHe dosen’t see a flawed person who was turned into a metpohrical monster by years of brainwashing and abuse and is slowly unravling under the weight of her true self.. she just sees a threat to her kingdom. She dosen’t see her kingdom as racist, just as it should be. And she dosen’t see herself as stepping down like hse damn well should’ve the MOMENT she found out everything. Because at her heart Moon can’t accept the truth and clings to her racisim.

And that my friends.. is what ultimately leads to Tragedy. Not Meteora’s unraveling mental state, not Eclipsa’s naitvite. What happens next is ENITRELY Moon’s fault. Whle Eclipsa was failing to get through to Metora, she was trying her best and might of gotten somewhere.. but Moon was already settling to attack.. and does so, making it look like Eclipsa set her own child up.

A fight ensues, a suprisingly even one... but Eclipsa breaks it up and PROVES her way could’ve worked. In one of Esme’s best performances sshe tearfully tells her daughter she loves her.. that ALL she wants is time with her to make up for what she’s lost.. she dosen’t need a kingdom or her crown or her wand, all things she DESERVES... she just wants her daughter. She just wants to help her baby girl before she goes so far down this path of hatred and vengance she’s alreayd well trod upon there is no point to return to.

It gets through to Meteora, makes her stop... and Moon TAKES ADANTAGE OF THAT. She then restrains metoera with a magical rock barrier and starts palpatineing her to death. It’s a horrifying moment that ultimately shows who Moon really is.. that when given the chance to let Meteora go, let her CHANGE and grow as a person and help the kingdom.. she instead tries to kill her. When she’s no longer a threat, hasn’t seriously hurt her in their fight, and could use her power to RESTORE the damage she’s done, fix what she’s broken and help the kingdom grow and mend the bridges racisim has torn down. But all she can see is a monster, and something to destroy.. not someONE to save.

So Eclipsa does what Moon would do if it were star about to die and saves her daughter, desperatly trying to stop mooon.. and allowing Meteora to get a clear shot and take half of moon’s soul. While Eclipsa is able to stop her from taking the full thing, Moon is left disoreinted and half alive and leaves on insticnt to parts unknown while Meteora escapes. Eclipsa is left alone, devistated and with her daughter truly lost. And the worst is truly yet to come.

Before we get into final thoughts i’d like to talk about how this scene impacts Moon’s betryal later. To me having rewatched this scene.. it only makes it work MORE making it clear Moon simply can’t fahtom racial equality and that she can’t fahtom that eclipsa had very good reason for doing what she did ... to me it comes off as her using Eclipsa betryaing her as a very flimsy justifcation to not validate her rule and to first retire and then try a coup. That “Well she “BETRAYED” me so i’m fine. “ But in truth... she betrayed Eclipsa first. She attacked her daughter TWICE when Eclipsa was close to getting through to her Her reasons are flimsy.. because i’ts not ABOUT eclipsa, but what eclipsa represents: equality with a race Moon dosen’t see as people. It’s about Moon’s racisim coloring everything tills h’es truly blinded and should have lost everything She didn’t because the ending is a fucking disgrace, but we might get to that at some point, the point here is for all that disgrace’s faults... it did get it right here, and Moon was always portrayed as being unable to let go of her racisim no matter what it cost her or how much her daughter despteratly tried to change her. Trust me as someone whose Dad used to argue that gay marriage meant he should be able to marry his cat, and who still argues against trans people using the bathroom of their choice, I get trying desperatley to change someone who don’t wanna. “Sigh”.

Final Thoughts: This episode is truly excellent. The writing is top notch as is the voice acting for all involved and the climax isa true, well led up to tragedy. The animation is also on point, with the characters emotions on perfect display. This is an episode I now realize is one of the series best and worth ar ewatch if you haven’ts een it. Truly amazing stuff that gets me pumped for the finale.. and disapoints me in how the series could reach these highs for one finale.. but would sink to it’s lowest point for next seasons. Next Time on Prince of Wishful Thinking: Star tries depseratly to find her mom, while Marco, Tom and a motely crew of misfits try to take down Meteora and Tom learns the awful truth from the photo booth and wears a zuko ponytail which weirdly looks good on him. That boy can rock anything let me tell you.

Hey, it’s been a while.

So, someone asked me why Shifter is in hiding, and I’ll try to get a canon answer out at some point when I don’t have art block.

I’m assuming, however, that this is in response to the blurb text of the Ask A Shapeshifter ask blog:

"Deep undercover in a small town. In time we will regroup, rebuild, and become strong once again."

The official reason Shifter is or was in hiding is that changelings are shapeshifters, disguising themselves as ponies is their M.O. and must in some way be necessary for their survival.

The meta reason is that I started the blog in 2012, and made a plausible assumption: that the only reason Princess Cadance knew what a changeling was during Part 2 of the Season 2 finale... was that Chrysalis had monologued at her and given away her entire evil plan.

This hypothesis, combined with everypony else’s reaction to “How can there be two of them?” left me with the conclusion that Equestria as a whole was completely unfamiliar with the changelings, and that the changelings were from a place beyond Equestria’s borders, possibly nomadic, or possibly located in or near the Badlands (which appeared at the time to be where Chrysalis was flung at the end of the episode.)

So, all of a sudden, Equestria knows about the existence of an army of shapeshifters who are at the least acting as sleeper agents and trying to feed on unsuspecting ponies... and at the most acting as sleeper agents and trying to overthrow the government, seize power, and enslave the population of Equestria. (Spoilers: canon confirms it’s the latter.)

Ask A Shapeshifter, the blog, started out in late 2012 with that conceit in mind, and was immediately heading for grimdark because I am acutely aware of how the general population tends to think if they get frightened. In 2012 I was all set to write grimdark about a peaceful diarchy’s gradual descent into fascism, from the perspective of a horrified outsider who himself had just abandoned an evil dictatorship.

You realize that your conquest-obsessed evil society is self-destructive and generally destructive, and just... bad and untenable... then look at your opponents, see something beautiful, and quite literally try to imitate them.

But the lovely society suddenly finds out your evil society exists, and they get scared. And the moment they get scared, they start to mirror it, and eventually you’ll wind up with two conquest-obessed evil societies who are at war with one another, paranoia running rampant, and “enemies of the state” being a thing.

In the original drafts from 2012, pony civilians began persecuting other ponies if the ponies had green magic, or dark coats, or insect-related cutie marks. Thunderlane would have elicited suspicious looks from ponies who didn’t know him; Shutterbug would have been driven out of town or worse; and children with insect cutie marks would have been bullied and/or physically attacked by classmates. There would be a military presence in every city and town, and the creation of a Department of Equestrian Security, and that sort of thing.

And then I was invited to crossover with another pony blog, some stuff happened, Season 3 happened, and I threw all of that scary stuff out the window and started fresh, and I frankly think the blog is better for it.

So, with the updated version, almost none of that stuff is blogcanon except that Chrysalis definitely did want to conquer and rule the ponies, forcing them to obey her every order and fulfill her every whim. (That’s show canon! Validation! Woo!)

Further, in the aftermath of the invasion, changelings still had incentive to stay hidden lest the ponies arrest them, which absolutely is canon.

So, the trick with this blog right now is figuring out when in my timeline it actually takes place, or if I should just jump around or something. That and overcoming art block.

Also I’ve moved Dust to Ponyville following the events of a comic that I have scripted but lack the energy to actually vector.
