Me on the phone with my parents yesterday crying my eyes out because I was going THROUGH IT emotionally.
My mom:
*brings up and agrees to watching the Stray Kids racha log of Bang Chan, Hyunjin, and Han bowling*
an inside joke because I’ve begged her to watch it with me ever since she came into my room to ask me something but instead stood there and watched the entire racha log of Changbin and Hyunjin bowling that was playing on my tv and then forgot what she was gonna ask me
*asks when my spring break is, then says she’ll take off work that first day and take me album shopping*
*reassured me that I’m not gonna feel this sad forever because that’s surely impossible when I have so many posters of Jake Sim pasted on my walls*

ღ this barbie can cook
Tumblr media
every single weekend, without fail, there is one thing that mick looks forward to that has absolutely nothing to do with the adrenaline from the race. it’s actually the fact that she makes him lunch all 4 days of a race weekend and they eat it together in honda’s cafeteria together while the prop up her ipad on the table and bond over a korean drama she managed to coax him into watching.
during pre-season testing in bahrain, she made him a lot of japanese food. japanese curry as promised, then a bowl of ramen, gyudon and then onigiri for race day.
for their first race weekend, korean food. korean fried chicken, bibimbap, japchae and bulgogi in that order. in jeddah, she tried threw him a wildcard of dishes while somehow still sticking to a theme: baked potato, mashed potatoes, potato soup and sauteed potatoes.
it’s a game they like to play every weekend — how long can mick decipher the theme of food she’s making him?
“hi,” she grins, dropping her bright pink lunch bag on the table. she thanks mick softly as he pulls the chair next to him out for her to take a seat. “i brought lunch!”
he smiles with a nod. it’s funny that she would say that as if it’s something that they did not establish beforehand — that she would be making him lunch every race weekend that they’re teammates. “did you now?”
“i made pakora,” she says as she starts to take out multiple tupperwares out from her bag. “fried veggies.”
“really?” he scrunches his nose with a frown, pulling a giggle as she throws her head back. “veggies on media day? you’ve gone cruel, barbie. where’s my junk food?”
she blinks at him, eyes wide as she formulates a response in her head. “it’s fried. it’s already junk food, mick.”
he scoffs, furrowing his eyebrows and scowling in feigned disgust. “this is ridiculous, barbie! vegetables on media day!”
she stiffens up and turns to him, blinking slowly. “you don’t like it? really?” her voice comes out softly and fragile as her lips quiver slightly. she starts to put the cover back on her tupperware. “we can just get something from catering. it’s okay.”
only then mick realises that he’s messed up. he’s always joked around with her, the girl either tilting her head in confusion at jokes with depth or simply faking a laugh to try and please him. otherwise, jokes usually just go over her head.
“no!” mick sits up quickly, patting her hands lightly, shaking his head profusely. “barbie, i was joking. usually you only give me the healthy food on race day — it’s media day. get it?”
she stares at him, eyes still wide and hesitant. “are you sure? it’s okay if you don’t want it, really.”
“barbie.” he tears her hands from the tupperware along its cover. “it was a joke. you know i look forward to your cooked lunches every weekend! thank you so much for cooking again.”
“you’re sure?”
he grins. “of course. so,” he taps on her ipad, “is the new episode out yet?”
instantly, she perks up as if forgetting her initial concerns. “yes! the new episodes are out — there’s 2!” she taps away on her ipad to turn on the show she’s decided they will watch and spend the entire day discussing.
“oh, cool. so, how long did it take you to make this meal?”
“just a while,” she shrugs. she takes out their utensils, offering the other pair to mick. “let’s have lunch!”

You got out of your last class for the day in the afternoon and ready to get your shift done at the bookstore next. It was a warm Thursday but you were glad it was slowly starting to cool off. Shifting your bag your shoulder you pull out your phone and see you got a message while in class. You smile and press the kakaotalk app. Seonghwa had sent you a message.
'Good afternoon for you, (Y/N). I just woke up. I hope classes have been well.' Followed by a cute emote of a cat yawning in bed.
After inviting Seonghwa to your island to sell turnips and take Marshal, you two began playing together. This was initiated by him, saying that he wanted more Animal Crossing friends. You and him swapped gifts for a few days in the game when he asked if you'd like to message through kakaotalk and here you both were now. At first most of your conversations pertained to Animal Crossing but gradually it shifted to you two learning about each other and talking.
And not just over text either.
When Seonghwa learned you were learning Korean he offered to help you out with verbal conversations if you helped him with English. At first you wanted to decline since you knew he would be busy and the time zones would make it difficult. He talked you into it, however, saying on the weekend when he has a shorter practice day and on your Friday nights when you could stay up layer you'd both video chat to show the progress you've both made for the week. Though, soon that would lead to sporadic video chats when either of you had free time.
'Good morning to you. I just got done with classes and I'll be heading to work in an hour. :)'
You replied and a few moments later he responded.
'Want to have a quick video call before I need to leave for practice?'
'Sure, let me find a spot to sit at.' You quickly found a small picnic table in the shade under a tree and put in your earphones. You hit the video call button and wait for him to pick up.
The screen shifted and you see his face. He seems to be at his deak with his phone set up to perfectly capture his face. You could faintly hear his Animal Crossing game in the background. You couldn't help but chuckle at that.
"Hey, Seonghwa. How did you sleep?" You greeted.
"Hello, (Y/N). I slept good." He smiled. "Were classes good today?"
"A bit boring. We just did lectures today and got a good chunk of reading to do for homework. Did you have breakfast yet?"
"I grabbed something small." You watch as he reaches over off screen and he holds up a bowl of cereal in one hand and an apple in the other. "I'll pick up more food when we get to the building." He lightly chuckled.
"Ah, yeah. I was running behind so I didn't have much to eat this morning." You saw him give you a playful scold. "But I'll be sure to pick up something at the café by my job. I have some left overs from last night that my roommate made for us that I am looking forward to after my shift."
"Oh, Redd is at my island and the real artwork is one I already have, the beautiful statue, do you want it?"
"That would be great, Seonghwa. I am missing that one. Man, it seems like Redd really likes visiting your island. He rarely ever comes to mine."
"Well, you've been having the better turnip-"
"Hyung!" Three loud, distinctive voices cut him off and soon you're seeing San, Mingi, and Wooyoung bust in behind him. Seonghwa was clearly flustered as he stared at you then looked back at the three men in his room.
You haven't gotten to speak to the other Ateez members before, nor were you ever begging or asking to. You'd let your friend decide when you'd be introduced to them. Seonghwa frequently mentioned the antics Ateez gets up to and he's mentioned that he has brought you up to them before. You were curious to see how this video call would go.
"Is that (Y/N)?" You see Mingi bend down into frame, looking at the phone. Wooyoung and San crowd around the elder male, who's ears were turning red.
"She is pretty, hyung." Your faces flushes with warmth when you hear Wooyoung not so quietly say. You smile though when you hear his words.
"It's nice to meet you finally. Seonghwa-hyung is always talking about you." San smiled brightly next to a mortified looking Seonghwa.
You chuckle, "It's nice to meet you three too! I hope you've heard all good things."
"Only good things. Hyung never shuts up about you." Wooyoung said playfully, rolling his eyes.
"Want to swap KaTalks?" Mingi asked while already pulling his phone out. San and Wooyoung quickly follow suit.
"Hey-!" Seonghwa tried to speak but the youngest in the room cut him off.
"We want to talk to and get to know (Y/N) too, hyung. And she can help us with our English. Right, (Y/N)?" Woo smiled at you and you can see a hint of mischievousness in his expression.
"Will the schedule Seonghwa and I have for those work for-"
"Yes, it would." San interrupts. "So KaTalk?"
You simply chuckle and immediately exchange numbers with them. You start to see notifications pop up on your screen of them texting you their names and emotes as well.
"Let's be friends." Mingi excitedly said with San nodding along.
"I look forward to talking to you guys."
"I look forward to talking to hyung's pretty friend-"
"Okay, out you three." Seonghwa cut Woo off and glared at the three of them as he stood up from his chair. You watch him shoo San, Wooyoung, and Mingi away, who were all very vocal in wanting to stay in his room and talk to you. You heard the door close loudly and then see Seonghwa sit back down in front of his phone. His ears, cheeks, and the sides of his neck were blushing.
"They seem fun." You tease.
"Try living with them. I'd never get peace if Woo was living in the dorm too." He rolled his eyes but still kept a soft expression. "I do love them despite the teasing."
"So you talk about me to them?"
"W-well, yeah. I consider you a friend and all-"
"Seonghwa!" Suddenly you heard Hongjoong's voice in the call. "Woo told us you were speaking to your game friend!"
You see Hongjoong and Yeosang flank Seonghwa and kneel on the ground while Jongho and Yuhno stand behind them, leaning down a bit to be in frame. The eldest male looked so embarrassed as they started to greet you and asking you to exchange numbers, making sure to tell you how much Hwa has mentioned you.
----------
It was late one Friday evening as you got home from work. You were feeling especially exhausted from dealing with rude customers and from staying up late the night before getting homework done. Your professors must be collaborating to make your homework levels as stressful as possible with all the assignments on top of the readings and the studying for finals next week.
And you swear customers must have planned to be the worst this week with their rudeness or staying in the store way past closing. Today alone you had a lady almost hit you with a book she tossed directed at your head and had a group of teens stay an hour past closing trying to see if they could stay in the store over night.
It hasn't been a good week. You've been so tired and drained, you've hardly been able to really communicate with Seonghwa or the rest of Ateez at all.
You slowly trudged to your room, saying hello and goodnight to your roommate on the way there. You wanted nothing more than to get into comfier clothes and sleep, but you knew your mind was too stressed to fall asleep immediately. Maybe some catching up on youtube or some Animal Crossing will help.
You close your room door and immediately toss your bag in the corner. You quickly grab some clothes to relax in before peeling off the outfit you'd been wearing all day. Almost instantly you felt some of the tension leave your body. You let out a sigh and roll your neck, stretching your limbs in hopes it'll help.
Your phone started ringing.
You look at the screen and see that it was Wooyoung wanting to video call.
Despite it two months since you got to officially meet the rest of Ateez, you were close with all the boys. Though, outside of Seonghwa, you talked with Wooyoung and San the most. Both were very sweet with you and you appreciated them and Seonghwa in integrating you into their friend group with ease.
You go and sit down at your desk and press answer, but didn't turn your camera on. You see Woo and San. They seemed to be outside somewhere, snacking on something. Both smiled.
"Ah, turn on your camera. We haven't seen or heard from you all week." Woo pouted. You really didn't want them to see how haggard you look, but you've come to learn you couldn't say no to him.
"Fine." You say, dragging out the word. You tap the button and see you are now on camera. Bother either could speak you sigh, "I know, I look like a mess. I just got home ten minutes ago."
"Weren't you supposed to get off an hour ago?" San's brows scrunch in concern.
"You look really tired, (Y/N). Are you taking care of yourself?" Woo's voice was gentle. "Have you eaten yet?"
"It's...been a hard week." You bite your bottom lip, feeling tears sting your eyes. "Just a lot of school work and then bullshit from customers. I'm just happy its the weekend tomorrow for me."
"Do you want to cancel the language catch-up lessons?" You felt your heart drop at Sannie's question. "Practice ended a few minutes ago, we just wanted a moment on the roof the relax. After we are done up here we are going back to the dorms soon, we can let the others know for you if that's the case."
"I'm sorry guys. I completely forgot." You couldn't help prevent the tears from finally spilling over.
"No, (Y/N), don't cry." Woo coos. You hastily wipe the tears and make sure to take steady, deep breaths.
"Don't worry about today, yeah? It's okay, we understand." San's kindness and his smile made you feel a little better. "The others will understand."
"Thank you both." You shakily say with a wet smile. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cry-"
"Don't apologize for that." Wooyoung tsk'd. "I wish we were there, I would be giving you a big hug right now."
"Me too, (Y/N)." Sannie spoke, his tone and face exuding sweetness.
"I wish you all were here too."
"Now go eat something. We'll let the others know about tonight." The younger male smiled.
"And we won't tell everyone the details either. Just that it was a tiring week for you." San assures. "Take care of yourself, (Y/N), and remember all of us are here for you."
"You both take care too. Thank you again."
They both smile and wave. The call ended and you let out a soft sigh, feeling a little better. You sit at your desk a little longer just to further decompress from the day. You were mindlessly scrolling on social media for a bit, letting your brain shut off.
---
Wooyoung and San returned to the dance studio a few minutes after their call with you ended. When they walked through the door they saw the others lounging around on the ground, some looking at their phones while others chatted.
"Woo and Sannie are back!" Mingi grinned and got up from the floor. "Now we can head home and talk to (Y/N)."
The two glanced at each other and then back at the others, who were getting up and grabbing their things to leave.
"We actually talked to (Y/N) while we were up on the roof." Wooyoung started. Seonghwa perked up when he heard they spoke with you. He and the others haven't heard much from you this week, which had them a bit worried.
"Is she alright?" The eldest couldn't help but ask, stepping closer to them. Everyone else looked at each other with knowing looks at his concern.
"She can't do the usual language lessons today. She told us she hasn't had a good week so we suggested she just rest tonight." San said. Everyone pulled out their phones and sent various supportive messages to the group chat you were in.
"That's too bad. I hope she is fine." Hongjoong crooned.
"She will be. Like we said, it was just a rough week." Woo nodded, his lips quirked up in a smile. "She needs rest."
"Let's get back to the dorms then." Hongjoong clapped his hands together.
Everyone let out several spunds of acknowledgment and started making their way out of the dance room to the garage to go home. Seonghwa lingered a bit, still looking at his phone before following the others at the back of the group. Wooyoung decided to move to the back with him to walk along side him.
"Are you messaging her?" The younger male asked.
"Yeah, she and I are going to video call and play Animal Crossing when we get back to the dorm and after she eats dinner." Seonghwa hummed, typing a few more things before putting his phone in his pocket.
"You care for her, don't you, hyung?" Woo's voice got lower so the others couldn't hear them.
"I do." Hwa smiled sincerely.
"Do you like her?"
"Of course I do. She's been nothing but a good friend."
"No, I mean as in you have a crush on her." Seonghwa looked to the younger males face, trying to discern if he was teasing him but saw nothing of the sort.
"No, I don't, Woo." The older male said softly. Wooyoung eyed him, but decided not to speak further on the matter. He could recognize Hwa was telling some truth, but he also could tell his friend wasn't completely aware of his budding feelings.
Wooyoung wasn't stupid and neither were the others.
Everyone else began picking up small things that gave it away. Seonghwa has gotten very happywhenever you two texted or video called. Whenever they took breaks during rehearsal, he'd immediately check his phone for any messages. He'd often laugh and tell the others a funny story you told him about your day before you told any of the others. Overall, he just seemed very happy.
And they were happy for him.
The boys were obviously wary at first and had expressed this to Seonghwa. He assured them that you've been nothing but genuine to him. And after them getting to know you on their own they came to that same conclusion. They just hoped Hwa could come to terms with his underlying crush and Woo hoped you could as well.
Only Wooyoung knew you had feelings for his oldest hyung and he hoped the two of you wouldn't drive him crazy.
---
The second Seonghwa walked through the door to his dorm, he immediately rushed into his room to wash up. He grabbed some comfier clothes and walked back into the shared space were Mingi and San were.
"I'll shower first." He smiled to them and didn't wait for an answer as he went into the bathroom. Mingi and San looked at each other before smiling while shaking their heads.
Seonghwa took the quickest shower he has ever taken. He felt less sweaty, clean, and relaxed from practice. He rentered his room and booted up his switch before he unlocked his phone. He sent a quick text telling you to call him when you were ready then got his phone set up for the video call. He did some fishing and bug catching as he waited.
When he heard the ringtone he quickly answered it.
You seemed to be lying on your stomach with your phone propped up at an angle, your switch in your hands. Seonghwa could see exhaustion clear on your face and he could see some puffiness to your eyes. Concern immediately filled his being.
"Hello, (Y/N). I'm sorry the week hasn't been kind to you." He crooned.
"How much did Woo and Sannie tell you?" There was almost a hint of worry in your voice.
"Only that it was a tiring week and you needed some rest." He gently smiled. "If... you want to talk about it, I am here for you. Only if you want to of course, don't feel like you have to share."
"It wasn't anything major. I've just been assigned a lot of homework, finals are next week, and customers have been a nightmare to deal with." You exhale. "I think today, though, stole the show with rude customers."
"What happened?"
"A lady tossed a book at me because we wouldn't accept it as a return and then some teens made me stay an hour late after closing because they wanted to hide in the store over night." You snort at the absurdity of it.
"I am so sorry its been hard for you. At least your weekend starts now."
"At least I get to play Animal Crossing with you. My mind hasn't been able to relax yet- Oh! And there is a meteor shower happening on my island!" Your face lit up and Seonghwa attempted to ignore the flutter in his chest. "Let me open up the airport for you so you can get some wishes too."
Seonghwa quickly had his avatar fly over to your island.
"Enough about me. How have you been, Hwa?" You lead him to a good vantage point on your island to wish on stars.
"The week has been good. We are practicing a lot for the various performances coming up and we've all been working hard. Sannie almost started a fire in the kitchen." He smiled when he heard you chuckle at that. "I'm glad to see you again, (Y/N)."
"I'm glad too. Sorry for being inactive-"
"You don't have to apologize for that. Life gets busy, we all understand. I just hope things in your life get less stressful for you."
"I'm already feeling better talking and playing Animal Crossing with you, Hwa."
"Good."
"Anything else happen this week? I know you can't say specifics but any antics with the guys?"
Seonghwa smiled as he focused on making his avatar make wishes. "Well, Jongho's been progressing nicely with his vocal training and practice. You didn't hear this from me, but he's been wanting to do a video call with you to show you that. Wooyoung and I did a home-cooked dinner for everyone on Wednesday this week. We all wished you could have joined for that. Hongjoong, Mingi, Wooyoung, and Yeosang engaged in a brief prank war from Monday to Tuesday. I had to put an end to it when the rest of us became collateral. And then Yuhno and San put together everyone in teams for a small free style dance battle..."
He was about to continue on but when he glanced back up at his phone, he saw that you had fallen asleep. His features soften at how adorable you looked, one arm supporting your head while the other outstretched with your Switch still in your loose grasp. He could faintly hear soft snores from your parted lips.
Seonghwa felt a tightness in his chest. He could feel his face and ears flushing with warmth. These are things that he has experienced lately when talking with you. His mind suddenly went back to Wooyoung's earlier question, making his eyes widen.
Oh.

When the talk is about fantasy k-dramas, there is no way Goblin - the lonely and great god can be missed!  This 2016 drama is undoubtedly one of the exemplary ones in kdrama history. It tells the story of a military general Kim Shin, played by Gong Yoo, who is framed and killed as a traitor. He, however, becomes an immortal Goblin because of the curse he receives from the almighty. The only person to help break his curse is Goblin’s Bride, played by Kim Go Eun as Ji Eun Tak. This drama also features Lee Dong Wook and Yoo In Na in two very interesting roles. Ji Eun Tak also accepts magical changes in her life brought by the Goblin. This drama is a perfect inclusion in your list if you fancy supernatural boyfriends. Moreover, the magical elements, such as seeing ghosts, opening doors to different places, flying cutlery, summoning Goblin with a blown-out candle etc., can work as the perfect distraction of the heavy angst hidden behind. All in all, this drama certainly has the potential to become one of your most favorite dramas of all time and that is why you should give it a try if you have not yet.
Tumblr media
2. Hotel Del Luna (2019)
Till this date Hotel Del Luna is one of the most unique dramas to be ever made. From the plot to the characterization, everything is unmatched. This 2019 fantasy drama deals with the story of a supernatural hotel, where the souls of deceased people come and rest for a few days before they carry on their journey towards their next life. Hotel Del Luna is run by Jung Man Wol, played by IU, who is bound to this hotel in a neither alive nor dead state due to the sins she committed in her lifetime. The only way Jung Man Wol can break free is by seeing off the very last guest of the hotel. However, for that she needs some assistance and that is provided by the hotel’s new manager Koo Chan Sung, played by Yoo Jin Goo. The story unfolds one by one as Man Wol and Chan Sung solve various issues associated with the guests of the hotel, gradually seeing off the staff Man Wol has worked closely with. This magical theme of the drama goes hand in hand with the philosophical development. Man Wol and Chan Sung duo sometimes fight evil spirits with magical powers and sometimes they root for helping out their ghost guests with their (freshly-ended) life conflicts as they keep on entertaining the viewers without a single boring episode. Hotel Del Luna not only brings a magical refreshment but also enriches the viewers with some crucial life lessons in a very philosophical way. And that is what makes it a must watch for you.

3. Tale of the Nine tailed (2020)
Are you interested in Korean folklore? And do you enjoy horror? If yes, then Tale of the Nine Tailed is the right drama for you. This 2020 drama tells of a tale associated with a Gumiho, nine tailed fox and his immortal journey to find his first love’s reincarnated version in 2020. Lee Yeon, played by Lee Dong Wook, is a nine tailed fox who gave up his mountain spirit position to find his first love, A Eum, again. A Eum is now reincarnated as Nam Ji Ah, played by Jo Bo Ah, who comes across Lee Yeon while looking for her lost parents. The story progresses when Lee Rang, Lee Yeon’s brother (played by Kim Bum), wakes up the imoogi in order to take revenge on his brother. Imoogi, played by Lee Tae Ri, is the main villain of the story and makes the drama more and more intriguing. The drama is sometimes bone-chilling, sometimes packed with action and sometimes deals with loneliness of the characters’ lives. Again, if you are a fan of the supernatural boyfriend trope then you are bound to enjoy Tale of the Nine tailed.

4. The King: Eternal Monarch (2019)
Fantasy mixed with royalty, that too in modern context? Perfect, isn’t it? Yes, that is what you get from The King: Eternal Monarch. The story of this 2019 drama sets in place when the King of Kingdom of Corea, Lee Gon, played by Lee Min Ho, finds a door that leads him to a parallel world, and he lands in Republic of Korea. There he comes across Lieutenant Jung Tae Eul, played by Kim Go Eun, someone he already knew but never got to see before. They fall in love as the story progresses but start to face several complications as two different worlds start mixing up with each other due to the villain’s advances. The fantasia of this drama lies in the magical power of a royal flute, which can open doors to several different versions of the universe, can delay death and age, can change, stop and help in traveling through time. The drama is a perfect example of a rom-com with a magical backdrop, a perfect choice when you need something light-hearted yet thrilling to enjoy.
Tumblr media
5. The Sound of Magic (2022)
“Annarasumanara” – the sound of magic, is the most realistic fantasy drama to be included in the list. This 2022 drama represents a perfect picturization of struggles and survivals. The story deals with the life of a young, intelligent yet poor schoolgirl Yoon Ah Yi, played by Choi Sung Eun. She fights for her survival each day as she tries to pay off her father’s debt while paying for her and her sister’s school fees all alone. By the turn of events, she meets Ri Eul, played by Ji Chang Wook, who is a magician sheltered in an abandoned amusement park. Ri Eul brings a wave of magic and happiness in the tough life of Yoon Ah Yi and soon they get another companion, Na Il Deung. Na Il Deung, played by Hwang In Youp, is Yoon Ah Yi’s classmate and the top student, who is immensely burdened with his parents’ expectations. Both of them try to find a respite from their real life struggles with the help of Ri Eul’s magic. With only 6 episodes this drama can make you cry and smile at the same time. The character of Ri Eul is so mysterious yet so touching that it will leave you wanting for more, especially because of the twist in the end.
Tumblr media
So, this is our list of 5 fantasy Kdramas that will take you on a trip to fantasia. Nevertheless, Doom at your service, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Moon Lovers: Scarlet heart, My Love From The Star etc. are some of the standard recommendations that you can go with without any hesitation.

here’s the NYtimes interview with alan alda reflecting on the fiftieth anniversary of M*A*S*H (text below the cut)!!
By Saul Austerlitz Published Sept. 16, 2022 Updated Sept. 17, 2022, 1:10 p.m. ET
When we think of the default mode of much of contemporary television — mingling the tragic and the offhand, broad comedy and pinpoint sentiment — we are thinking of a precise mixture of styles, emotions and textures first alchemized by “M*A*S*H.”
Created by Larry Gelbart and Gene Reynolds, “M*A*S*H” aired on CBS from 1972 to 1983. (It is currently available to stream on Hulu.) Over the course of its 11-year run, it featured alcohol-fueled high jinks and other shenanigans alongside graphic surgical sequences and portrayals of grief, blending comedy and drama in a fashion rarely seen before on television. Set among the doctors and nurses of a Korean War mobile surgical unit, “M*A*S*H” made use of the mockumentary episode decades before “The Office” ever tried it, featured blood-drenched story lines long before “The Sopranos” and killed off beloved characters without warning well before “Game of Thrones.”
The “M*A*S*H” series finale, titled “Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen,” remains the most-watched non-Super Bowl program ever broadcast on American TV. The heart of the series was Alan Alda, who played the acerbic and devoted surgeon Hawkeye Pierce throughout the show’s more than 250 episodes and also wrote and directed dozens of them.
The actor revisited “M*A*S*H” in a video interview ahead of the show’s 50th anniversary, on Sept. 17. Alda, 86, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2015, discussed famous scenes, the series’s battles with CBS (“They didn’t even want us to show blood at the beginning”) and why he thinks the audience connected so deeply with “M*A*S*H.” These are edited excerpts from the conversation.
How have you been feeling?
Good, thank you. You mean with regard to Parkinson’s or the Covid or what?
All of the above, I suppose.
Parkinson’s I’m on top of. And I haven’t come down with Covid yet.
What does it mean to you to know that people are still interested in “M*A*S*H” 50 years later?
I got the script submitted to me when I was making a movie in the Utah State Prison. And it was the best script I had seen since I’d been in prison. I called my wife and I said: “This is a terrific script, but I don’t see how I can do it. Because we live in New Jersey, and it has to be shot in L.A. And who knows? It could run a whole year.” To go from that to 50 years later, it’s still getting, not only attention but it’s still getting an audience, is a surprise.
What kinds of conversations did you have with Larry Gelbart before the show began?
With “All in the Family,” I think the door was open to doing stories about things that really mattered. So when I got out of prison and went down to L.A. to talk to them, the night before we started rehearsing the pilot, I wanted us all to agree that we wouldn’t just have high jinks at the front. That it would take seriously what these people were going through. The wounded, the dead. You can’t just say it’s all a party. And we talked until about 1 in the morning at a coffee shop in Beverly Hills.
Do you feel there was a shift over the first season away from the booze-fueled humor of the early episodes?
Yeah, there was. Partly because people who were submitting story lines thought that that’s what was wanted. Larry Gelbart rewrote most of the shows the first season. Midway through the first season, there was a show called “Sometimes You Hear the Bullet,” and that was a real turning point. Because in that show, a friend of Hawkeye’s shows up among the wounded, and he dies on the operating table. That’s the moment where McLean Stevenson [as Lt. Col. Henry Blake] says: “There’s two rules in war: Young men die, and then Rule 2 is there’s nothing you can do about it.” Something like that. [The exact quote: “There are certain rules about a war. And rule No. 1 is young men die. And rule No. 2 is, doctors can’t change rule No. 1.”]
The network was furious about this. Some guy in charge of programming said, “What is this, a situation tragedy?” Soon after that, we were getting more popular. And the more popular you get, the less they complain.
Was CBS also concerned about the language used to tell these stories?
The most striking example to me was early in the series. Radar [Gary Burghoff] is explaining to somebody that he’s unfamiliar with something. And he said, “I’m a virgin at that, sir.” With no sexual context. It was just that he’d never done something before. And the CBS censor said: “You can’t say the word ‘virgin.’ That’s forbidden.” So the next week, Gelbart wrote a little scene that had nothing to do with anything. A patient is being carried through on a stretcher. And I say, “Where you from, son?” And he says, “The Virgin Islands, sir.”
Early in the show’s run, Gelbart and Reynolds went to South Korea and recorded 22 hours of interviews with doctors, nurses, pilots and orderlies there. How did those interviews make their way into story lines for the show?
We had reams of transcripts of those conversations. I would go through them looking for ideas for stories. And I could see that the other writers were doing the same thing, because there’d be circles around sentences and words. Sometimes one little phrase would spark the imagination of one of us, and that phrase could turn into a story.
Larry and Gene went to Korea at the end of the second season, and they got a lot of material for stories. But they had also found that we had, by paying attention to the lives that they lived, we had made up stories that were very similar to things that had actually happened.
People may not remember that you directed 32 episodes of “M*A*S*H” and wrote 19 episodes. How did you start getting interested in writing and directing?
At the end of the first season, I wrote a show called “The Longjohn Flap.” I borrowed the idea of “La Ronde,” but made it long johns instead because it was reflective of what their lives were like in the cold. I had been trying to learn writing since I was 8 years old. I wanted to be a writer before I wanted to be an actor.
Were there story lines that you thought “M*A*S*H” hadn’t quite tackled yet that you wanted to bring into the world of the show as a writer and director?
When I wrote, I tried to find out a little bit more about each of the characters. Who is Klinger [Jamie Farr] really? What was underneath — I almost said, what was underneath the dresses. [Laughs.] What was underneath the wearing of the dresses? Who was Margaret [Loretta Swit]?
I see on the internet that people assumed that because I was politically active, trying to get the Equal Rights Amendment passed, that in my writing I was trying to make political points, too. And I wasn’t. I really don’t like writing that passes as entertainment when it’s really propaganda. I want to hear a human story.
The unexpected death of Colonel Blake (McLean Stevenson) in the Season 3 finale, “Abyssinia, Henry,” remains one of the biggest surprises in television history. What was it like to shoot that sequence?
Gelbart showed me the scene. I think [it was] the morning of the shoot. I knew, but nobody else knew. He wanted to get everybody’s first-time reactions. And it really affected Gary Burghoff on camera. I think everybody was grateful for the shock.
It shocked the audience, too. I had a letter from a man who complained that he had to console his 10-year-old son who was sobbing. But it was one of the ways for the adults in the audience to realize that another aspect of war is that things happen that you don’t expect.
Was there ever a point when you got tired of fighting the Korean War on TV? The old joke is the show lasted almost four times as long as the actual war.
Around a year before we finally ended it, I felt we were getting toward the end of our ability to be fresh every week. I started suggesting that we do a final movie-length episode that really could end it. First of all, we were getting too old to play these people. And after you tell stories about a group of people 250 times, it’s hard not to repeat yourself or say things that sound like they’re supposed to be funny but aren’t really.
What did it mean to you to have Hawkeye leave Korea scarred by the death of a child in the final episode?
You just described exactly what I wanted to do with all the characters on the show. I was looking for stories, each in a different way, that showed how everybody left the war with a wound of some kind. Everybody had something taken from them. And Hawkeye was just one of them.
Earlier in your career, you had been on another great military comedy, “The Phil Silvers Show,” also known as “Sergeant Bilko.” What did you learn about acting from your pre-“M*A*S*H” TV work?
The first thing I learned on the “Bilko” show was you have to know your lines before you go in for the day’s work. I had come from the stage, where I would learn my lines during rehearsal. And the first thing they did is say, “OK, you’re up for your phone conversation,” where it’s a page of dialogue. It was an eye-opening experience. [Laughs.] I staggered through that.
Why do you think the audience connected so deeply with “M*A*S*H”?
Aside from really good writing and good acting and good directing, the element that really sinks in with an audience is that, as frivolous as some of the stories are, underneath it is an awareness that real people lived through these experiences, and that we tried to respect what they went through. I think that seeps into the unconscious of the audience.
They didn’t even want us to show blood at the beginning. In the pilot, the operating room was lit by a red light, so you couldn’t tell what was blood and what wasn’t. Which, once we got picked up, was ditched.
And giving us a feel for the circumstances that the real people had to go through, so that you could see that the crazy behavior wasn’t just to be funny. It was a way of separating yourself for a moment from the nastiness.
You can’t get as harsh as it really was.
Correction: Sept. 16, 2022 An earlier version of this article described in error the viewership statistics for the series finale of “M*A*S*H.” It was the most-watched non-Super Bowl program ever broadcast on American television, in terms of total audience, not the highest-rated non-Super Bowl program. A rating refers to the percentage of TV households that watch a program. The “M*A*S*H” finale remains the highest-rated program, of any kind, ever broadcast on American television.

[CHINESE NEW YEAR SPECIAL] Celebrate Chinese New Year with SKZ 🎆
genre: fluff (some funny scenes)
a/n: I started writing this back in January lmao. The whole ff is written in first person point of view. Anyway Happy Chinese New Year!
warning: none? however, there are members from Aespa, NCT and Seventeen appearing in this fanfic
Tumblr media
A few days before New Year, your team members heared you and Chenle's conversation, and they used their phone to translate live--
Chenle: "Can you go home for New Year?"
You: "WAIT YOU CAN GO HOME??? Bro this is so not fait! Ugh, it's been so long time..."
Chenle: "Then how are you gonna celebrate it? You wanna come and have dinner with the Chinese line?"
You: "I'd love to but, I still gonna record Kingdom that day, and it'll be too late for food when I'm done."
Chenle: "Okay superstar, in that case I will just go have fun with the Ningning The 8 and Jun, but I will send you picture so don't worry!"
You: "Ugh ok, bye"
Chan opened his phone to check the calender: "Yea, it's Chinese New Year soon."
"Kingdom starts that day," Says Lee Know, "We sure don't know when we will be back."
"But this holiday must be very important for her!" Hyunjin searched it up, "It's the biggest holiday in China, look!"
"Clench your fist, get up early and sleep late, I mean, it's for her right?" Changbin says to everyone.
Everyone agreed, so now they are doing the 'missions' again.
"New Year requires..." Because Chinese has different traditions than Korean, Chan needs to search it up and read them one by one: "Eat dumplings, spring couplets, fireworks, red envelopes..."
"Red envelopes?" Felix scratcher his head, "What are those?"
Felix immediately took out his phone: "Let me ask Chenle."
Chenle picked up his phone after one second.
Chenle: "What's up Yongbogi?"
Felix: "Heyyyyy, long time no see buddy! So since Soomi can't celebrate New Year with yall, we are worried that she will feel sad, and we wanna celebrate it with her! But we don't know that much about the traditions, can you explain them?"
Chenle: "Ah of course! I promise I won't tell Soomi. Let me tell you..."
About the traditions, uh yes, it went on for at least one hour.
After this one hour, you were told about the plans (by Chenle of course)
"Everyone's so good to you," Chenle is just chatting with you, but he doesn't know that you are so touched that you have tears in your eyes.
"Yea," You sneezed, "But why you told me early! I'm worried that I can't take it by then."
"Hey don't tell them about this!"
"Fine!" You ended the call.
Busy days always fly past, it's New Year's Eve in a blink. Because you were busy rehearsing for the stage the day before, you barely had any rest, you are so tired after the shooting today and even forgot how special today is! You started sleeping once you got on car.
"Are the red envelopes ready?" Chan talked quietly on the car.
"Yes they are!" Lee Know took out an envelope with 'luck' on it from his pocket.
"What about the spring couplets?" Chan nods, and then kept on checking.
"I wrote together with Seungminnie, I asked Yao Chen to check it, it's on the table." Felix tapped Chan's shoulder and told him no worries.
"Dumplings?"
"Yea I made them together with Jeogin and Changbin hyung," Hyunjin went on, "and fish too."
"Okay!" Chan pretended to clap, "The fireworks are also ready, Minho should also be checking on the other car, we just need to make sure to being Soomi up the building later, don't wake her up."
The cars soon arrived at the dorm. You had absolutely no idea because you were sleeping so well. Chan picked you up carefully, Felix protected your head, moved you out the car and successfully carried you back to dorm.
It's even harder to let the kids quiet down when cooking than sscend to heaven. Lee Know clenched his fist because Hyunjin accidently hit a bowl and it fell on the floor; Jeogin needed to watch Jisung's mouth just in case he randomly started singing; about Changbin, Chan taped his mouth because his mouth is literally a weapon.
You got woken up by the great smell of food. The air is filled with sweet smells, the type of sweet smell that are rare in Korean foods.
You rubbed your sleepy eyes, opened your bedroom door and walked out. Although you already knew that they are going to give you a surprise, but when seeing all the Chinese food on the table, you were still shocked. I mean, who doesn't love food right?"
Chan, who just put the last dish on the table, saw you coming out and said to you: "Heyyyy, I was just about to let Felix call you! Come sit down!"
Before Chan finished, Felix and Han already grabbed your hands and took you to your seat.
'It must be the water vapor...' You thought, teary in your eyes.
"Ahw why are you crying?" Lee Know denied your thoughts, took a napkin and wiped your tears.
"I......" You still wanted to argue, but started crying once you opened your mouth: "You guys are so nice, I'm so touched..."
The other members took their seats soon after, Lee Know patted your head: "You know why we are so nice to you? Because we think you are so nice to us too!"
Changbin counldn't help it, he ate a dumping first and it was so hot he grinned. "YES SOOMI, you are so good to us you know? C'mon, the food will get cold if you don't eat them now."
Seungmin, who sat next to you, put some vegetables in your bowl and handed you a pair of chopsticks: "Try them! We learned one dish each."
You still couldn't help but sob. You picked up a piece of fish and was about to eat, but you were blocked by Seungmin: "No, sobbing and eating at the same time will make you choke." He said, his other hand patted your back gently.
After seeing you moving your chopticks, Changbin started calling everyone and began to eat: "Eat quick! We have bigger surprises waiting for you!" You smiled when watching him like this.
After pouring drinks, Chan raised his cup: "In the past year, we all did great, especiall our maknae! As the only girl in our team, she has taken off a lot of pressure. In the next year we will also be moving forward, and get better and better."
"CHEERS!" Everyone shouted, your happy faces are reflected on the cups.
"Following the Chinese traditions, we put 3 coins in the dumplings! Now eat" Lee Know handed you some dumplings.
You took a bit: "Hey I got it!" You spited out the coin, "Not every dumplings have a coin right?"
"How's that possible?" Even with that being said, Jeogin still thought it's magical, "Our maknae will become rich next year hehe."
However, Lee Know and Chan are acting calm: because the first dumpling you ate was marked by us.
It's just a little trick used by the oldest members, but it can truly bring you happiness. This is surely the best meal you've had ever since you came to South Korea.

Tumblr media
“This is nice,” Harin said with a sigh.
“It really is,” Dongwook agreed from beside her.
The two were at Dongwook’s house, spending White Day together. They were eating a variety of Korean foods and watching a movie. Dongwook had his left arm around his girlfriend as they cuddled on the couch.
“Can you pass me some yubuchobap?” He asked, pointing at the finger food on the coffee table. She leaned forward, taking the plate of food in her hand and giving it to her boyfriend. He popped a yubuchobap into his mouth, taking another one and offering it to her. She ate the food from his hand, squeezing his thigh in thanks.
He put the plate down, picking up the bowl of popcorn. He placed it on his lap, eating from the bowl as they watched. She would occasionally reach over to get some popcorn, but primarily focused on the movie, missing the intense stare her boyfriend was giving her.
She turned her head to tell him something, shocked to see him already looking at her. “What?” She asked.
He shook his head, smiling fondly. “Nothing. I’m just enjoying myself,” he answered with a shrug.
Harin rolled her eyes affectionately. “Of course you are. You have the best company in the whole of Korea,” she bragged.
Dongwook shook his head with a laugh. “You’re really incredible. How do you say things like that?”
“If I don’t, who will?”
He nodded in agreement. “You have a point.” He leaned forward for the remote, pressing pause on the movie. “I’m going to the bathroom,” he announced as he left the sitting room.
She nodded, watching him leave the room. Making use of the break from the movie, she started clearing up the empty dishes, taking them to the kitchen. When Dongwook brought her to his apartment, she was surprised to see the assortment of foods he had prepared during the day. There were upwards of ten dishes for them to snack on as they spent the evening together.
“What are you doing so suddenly?” Dongwook asked. He had come back from the bathroom and, after not seeing his girlfriend in the sitting room, went out to look for her.
“Cleaning up a little bit,” she answered, having started to wash the dishes.
He walked to her, pulling her hands out of the sink. “We can do that later.”
“There aren’t that many dishes, though.” She used her head to gesture at the three remaining dishes to be washed. “I’ll be done in no time.”
He dropped her hands, picking up the drying cloth. “I might as well help you,” he explained, drying the dishes that she had already washed.
True to her word, Harin finished in less than five minutes, sitting on the kitchen island as she waited for Dongwook to finish. After he had put the last dish away, he folded the cloth and put it down. He turned around to face his girlfriend, placing his arms on either side of her legs on the counter. She placed her hands around his neck.
“You’re a neat freak, you know that?” He teased, laughing.
Also laughing, she shook her head. “I’m not a freak and you know it. I just wanted to wash some dishes now so that later we don’t get overwhelmed with how much we have to cleanup, then we just end up leaving it messy overnight and then, when we wake up tomorrow, there’s ants everyw–”
To stop her rambling, he leaned forward, kissing her. “Don’t overthink it,” he reminded her when he pulled back.
She nodded as her eyes fluttered open. “That felt like something straight out of a drama,” she said. She started looking over her shoulders. “Is there a camera somewhere?”
He put his head in the crook between her shoulder and neck as he laughed. “I thought I was being romantic,” he complained, causing her to throw her head back in laughter, “but now you have me questioning whether I was.”
Harin hummed. “For a split second, my heart fluttered.”
“For a split second?” Dongwook repeated, lifting his head.
She brought her right hand up, bringing her pointer finger and thumb close, but not touching. “Like this much.”
“Wah! After all these years, I can only be romantic for this much–” he copied her hand– “time before you start to cringe. I need to up my game.”
“Let’s see if you can improve as we finish the movie,” she said, patting his cheek.
He briefly closed his eyes, laughing. “Okay.” He lifted her off the table with a grunt, causing her to laugh in shock. He carried her to the couch, placing her down gently.
“How about now? Was that romantic?” He asked, staring down at her.
She nodded slowly in thought. “It was better than last time,” she said in a playful tone.
“Let me make it more romantic,” he said, walking to the kitchen. He returned soon with a bottle of wine and two glasses.
“Why are you working so hard to impress me?” She asked with a laugh, accepting the offered glass.
He shrugged, pouring his own glass. “Am I not allowed to woo my girlfriend?” He put the bottle down on the coffee table.
She shifted on the couch, sipping her wine. “You are, but you’re trying extra hard today.” She watched him sit next to her, a few centimetres of space between them.
“Because it’s White Day,” he reasoned, taking a sip of his wine. “Speaking of, did you enjoy your spa?”
“Why did you copy me?” She asked in a sharp tone, causing him to widen his eyes in shock.
“What do you mean?”
“For Valentine’s Day, I booked you a spa treatment and you booked me a spa treatment today. And last year,” she continued, “we took an improv class together for Valentine’s and then you did the same thing for White Day.”
“That’s because you enjoyed the improv class so much and I wanted you to have fun.”
“And this year?”
“The other day, you said your back was sore.”
She squinted her eyes at him. “I don’t remember saying that.”
He laughed exasperatedly. “You complained that ever since the Girls’ Generation comeback, your body has been protesting.”
“I do remember that,” she admitted quietly. She put her glass down. “But I did enjoy my massage. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” He reached his left hand out, holding her hand. He played with her fingers, smiling at her.
Harin smiled at her boyfriend. “Should we… get married?” She whispered. Dongwook’s smile fell from his face. She watched as he put down his wine glass, putting his head in his hands with a groan. “What? You don’t want to get married right now?” She asked. “That’s fi–”
“That’s not the problem,” he interrupted, head still in his hands. He looked up at her, rubbing his hands together. “I…” he trailed off with a sigh, hanging his head. He put his right hand in his pocket, pulling out a box and showing her. “I was going to ask you,” he said as she gasped. “I have a cake in the fridge with… Wah, seriously.” He flopped back onto the couch, putting the box back into his pocket.
Harin stared at Dongwook, her mouth dropped open. “Oppa, are you joking? Because I swear if you’re joking, I will disembowel you.”
“I’m not joking,” he said, covering his face with his hands. He pointed at the TV console area. “I even set up a camera. It’s been recording ever since you washed the dishes.” He laughed miserably. She looked at the console and, sure enough, there was a camera on the piece of furniture.
“How did I not notice it?” She asked.
“I kept you distracted.”
“So what was your plan?”
He turned his head to look at her. “I was going to get the cake when we finished the movie and when you were going to compliment how pretty it looked, then notice the writing and you’d look to me to ask if I got the wrong cake, but I was going to be on one knee with the ring prepared and everything.”
“Ah, I’m sorry,” she apologised, scooching over to Dongwook. Getting on her knees, she wrapped her arms around him. He loosely wrapped his arm around her waist as she placed her hand on his cheek. “You can still do your unnecessarily long plan. I’ll pretend not to know.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. You might not know this, but–” she flipped her hair over her shoulder– “I’m a masterclass actress. I can act!”
“You still want to do it?”
“Yeah! Technically, you haven’t proposed to me yet.” She moved off him, sitting back on the couch. “Go get my proposal cake,” she instructed, tapping his chest.
He shook his head in disbelief as he stood up. As he got the cake from the fridge, he heard Harin turn the movie back on. He shook out his body, calming his nerves. Clearing his throat, he walked back into the sitting room, cake in hand.
“Harin-ah, I got us a cake,” Dongwook said, following the script he made up.
Harin looked up from the TV screen, smiling at him with unshed tears in her eyes. “Suddenly?” She asked, playing along.
He nodded, putting the cake on the table next to the wine. “I wanted to go all out.”
She leaned forward, looking at the cake. “It’s so pretty!” She exclaimed, genuinely impressed at the decorations. She was so busy studying the cake that she forgot about the proposal. Dongwook cleared his throat to get her back on track. “Oh, right! Shit. Shit, I didn’t mean to swear. The whole thing’s fucked now, oh my–”
“Don’t overthink it,” he interrupted softly, repeating his earlier words.
She exhaled deeply, nodding slowly. “The cake’s really pretty,” she whispered, looking at him.
He nodded. “I knew you’d like it. You maybe want to read what’s written on it?”
She looked back at the cake, acutely aware of Dongwook getting on his knee. With her heart jackhammering in her chest, she cleared her throat. “Why… The writing doesn’t seem… It says ‘Will you marry me?’” She looked at him, smiling when she saw him.
“Harin-ah, my star. I wrote a speech, but I forgot it. The main theme of it was that I love you and I want to grow old together. The eight years we’ve been dating have been some of the best of my life. I… I want to grow old with you. I want to marry you.” He sighed. “Will you marry me?”
She nodded, walking around the table to him. When she reached him, he had already stood up. Wrapping his arms around her waist, he kissed her breathless. She put her hands on either side of his face, smiling into the kiss.
“I love you,” she said in between kisses, “so much.”
He pressed more kisses against her lips before responding, “I love you too.”
They pulled apart enough so Dongwook could put the ring on Harin’s finger.
“This is so crazy!” Harin exclaimed, looking at her ring.
“Good crazy?” Dongwook asked.
“The best crazy.” She pecked his lips.
“Happy White Day, fiancée,” he said, pressing a kiss into her hair.
“Happy White Day, fiancé,” she replied, hugging him tightly.

TXT CHOI LINE AS . . . MY CURRENT FAV RAMENS !!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🍜 ミ●﹏ ͘ ࣭⸰ SPICYSPICYSPICYSPICYSPICY!!!!
Tumblr media
p — NONE | g — crack, slight fluff, j choi line headcanons | w — mentions of food, overall p bad bc this was just a random headcanon in my mind
a/n — yippie 😋😋 I love these ramens pls and this was a pure shower thought type headcanon lmfaoo 😭 there's no planning 4 this I hope you enjoy
Tumblr media
YEONJUN — GEKIKARA RAMEN (EXTRA HOT)
starting off strong w/ my boy yeonjun 💪💪 look, if any of you haven't tried gekikara ramen, UMMMMMM. it's so good like.
it comes w two seasoning packets, a chili oil &a sugar and sesame seed type packet? I guess that's what makes it slightly sweet as well. you're supposed to combine everything in a bowl and throw the cooked noodles on top and mix, and the whole ramen and it's components reminded me sm of yeonjun 😭 because he's such a sweetheart, kind of like the sugary sesame seasoning, but then the occasional chili oil that slaps you in the face and you're like, “damn. yeonjun is fine asf.”
the overall taste isn't too spicy, there's a balance of everything and it's really delicious. which also reminds me sm when yeonjun performs on stage. he so flawlessly executes the entire choreography, you can tell this guy knows his shit, the way he distributes his energy throughout his entire body and knows how to captivate the audience at the same time ✋✋ jeogiyo noona yeonjun 🫦
shameless promo go try this ramen. (and try yeonjun if u can. ok I'll stop sorry.)
Tumblr media
SOOBIN — ORIGINAL SAMYANG RAMEN
this one's got a soup base, and it says a lot that soobin is the only one out of these three who gets associated with a soupy ramen.
when you think soupy, you think comfort, you think relaxing, like a warm bowl on a cold day. the flavoring isn't anything that hits you and you're crying and reaching for a cold glass of water, but instead it's like, “wow, I could get used to this.” it's slightly salty, but you won't taste that unless you've boiled the soup down to a certain consistency where the seasoning is concentrated.
the veggies really add to the flavor too— like they have a certain aroma that they bring to the ramen. every clip I've seen of soobin when he's not performing is always something that makes me feel so happy, I'm always smiling at the screen until my mom looks at me like 🤨❓he's got such a cheerful aura to him, where he's super soft and cuddly, despite being like 6'1 ‼️‼️‼️ (😵‍💫😵‍💫)
there's this one clip of him where they're playing the headphone screaming game (LMFAO IDK WHAT ITS CALLED), and the word was “i love you” in korean, and he was so happy when he figured it out that he was screaming “I LOVE YOU? I LOVE YOU !!” like so happily n’ pouty, and I couldn't stop giggling and feeling so nice inside. and that's why I paired him with a soupy ramen 😋😋
try it, it's yummy yum yum
Tumblr media
BEOMGYU — BULDAK (2X)
finally we have buldak. last but OH HO HO (🎅❓) DEFINITELY NOT THE FUCKING LEAST 😭😭 a dipshit. an asswipe. can you see that I love beomgyu.
ironically, buldak is my fav ramen out of these three. my family's banned me from consuming it like thrice (before they conveniently forget ab said ban &the cycle starts again) because it's SO unhealthy for you— and even I agree. me, certified buldak lover. and beomgyu biaser.
it's just so spicy but I've had it sm, I'm used to it so it doesn't burn my bootyhole anymore— and the characteristic of “spicy until you're crying and screaming pain” is so beomgyu. countless clips of this boy where he's annoying the fuck out of everyone, and I want to be like on the side of everyone being annoyed and be like “so true he's so annoying UGH 🙄” but I can't help but giggle because I find it cute.
he's such a little shit, I love watching it on screen. that's also another reason I put out so many cocky!beomgyu fics because I can't get enough of this boy being the biggest, hottest douchebag anyone's ever seen.
and I know it's been like 3 years since blue hour era but I still have NOT gotten over beomgyu mocking yeonjun's line— it was esp hilarious 4 me because I started doing that right before I saw the clip too 😭 so maybe I'm beomgyu coded, who knows.
but anyway, beomgyu, buldak, delicious but painful, don't eat it if you have a weak stomach 🤧🤧

Yandere Yoongi x Original Character
The knife made a low, soft thud each time it came in contact with the cutting board. The lid of the pot fogged as steam collected on its surface. Giving it a short but vigilant glance, Holly resumed her focus on chopping the vegetables. As soon as she removed the lid, a cloud of steam rushed up.
“Perfect.”
She hummed to herself as she put the vegetables into the stew. It was her boyfriend’s comfort food. And perhaps it was not an expected dish to be served for date night but tomorrow was his birthday and she wanted the date night to make it as comforting and beautiful as possible— just her and him.
She had also prepared some appetizers to his liking. All that was left was to prepare a warm and relaxing bath for him. She had filled the bathroom cabinets with his favourite bath bombs and scented candles. All the things that would loosen the stressful knots in him.
Putting the stew away, she wiped her hands and took off her apron before glancing at the clock and then at the door. It was about time, he should be home any moment. He promised to be home by—
The doorbell rang twice.
Holly rushed to open it. And as anticipated, she was greeted by her boyfriend. He gave her a tired smile.
“I kept my promise. Happy?”
Yoongi’s voice was a low baritone as he walked in, shoulders slumped and lips chapped. Despite the onset of the spring season, the evenings were frosty still and the redness of his nose showed that.
“Why don’t you freshen up first I have prepared a hot bath and—”
“Thank you.”
With that, Yoongi walked past her, straight into the bedroom. Holly stood and watched as he discarded his jacket carelessly on the bed and walked into the bathroom.
Salad.
Yes, she had not prepared the salad yet.
With that, she rushed back into the kitchen and proceeded to cut the ingredients and make a dressing for the salad before Yoongi would come back.
Holly put all her focus on the salad, and by the time she was done- satisfied with the product, she turned around, only to find Yoongi sitting at the dining table.
“Oh, you are done?” how come she never heard him walking in and sitting?
“Yes. I…I took a quick shower actually, I was hungry. I called you twice but I think you were busy with the salad.” his eyes dropped to the bowl in her grasp.
“Y-yes, yes, I think I was too engrossed with it.”
“I like the aroma.”
“It is your favourite stew.” she walked to the table and placed the salad on it. “But first, appetizers.”
“You went all three-course?”
“Four actually, I even have dessert.”
A faint smile graced his lips. “Oh, I see. Sit down, please.”
Holly sat as Yoongi prepared the plates- chopsticks for him, fork and spoon.
“That’s not needed, I know how to use chopsticks by now.”
“Yes but, I thought you would be more comfortable with these.”
“I’m comfortable with chopsticks now, don’t worry.”
And she was. Yoongi observed how well she had learnt to use them over the years. And not only chopsticks, but she also perfected his favourite dish, she had mastered so many Korean recipes.
He could not even recall when was the first time they had cooked together a delicacy of her own country. When was the last time he had cooked for her? He knew she loved his cooking.
He licked his lips and focused on plating the food. He could at least try. They had to try. The food was, needless to say, good. But all were his favourite items.
“It’s delicious.”
She smiled at his appreciation before going back to eating. The soft clinking noise was the only sound prevalent in the room until she spoke up again.
“We have a date tomorrow, you remember, right?”
Yoongi did not look up from his plate. He focused on eating instead.
“Yoongi?”
He heard her, of course, he heard her but he could not afford another day’s work hours cut short. Their date was important to him, but not more than the songs he and his team members were so diligently working on.
“I’m sorry I cannot make it tomorrow. Namjoon is working on some songs and me and Hobi are going to evaluate—”
“Hoseok can do that.”
“My inputs are just as important, you know that Holly.” he sighed, too tired for another argument.
“But Mr Kang told us that we need to spend more time with each other, at least two dates a week is required.”
“We can speak to him this weekend about my schedule then. No big deal, we will have to find an alternative.”
“It’s for the initial months. It won’t be a regular thing. You can go back to your schedule after—”
“After? After what? After a therapist fixes our relationship?”
“We did not know what else to do?”
“This was your idea.” Yoongi hissed lowly.
“So what did you expect me? Sit and watch us fall apart?” Holly held an exasperated expression as her grip on her chopstick tightened.
Yoongi stared back at her, equally frustrated.
“We could talk this out. You just booked an appointment and dragged me there.” he deadpanned.
“Really? You are either tired, frustrated, or absent- every time we tried to talk it escalated into an argument, why can’t you see we needed this!”
He noticed how beautifully she had learnt his language. When was the last time she spoke to him in her mother tongue?
“When was the last time you cooked something from your country?”
“W-what?” her eyes held confusion “How is this even relevant?”
“It is. It is very much relevant. You have–I mean don’t you miss it?”
“I miss us, Yoongi, and that is why I am trying everything in my power to save this relationship, but I cannot do this alone. I need you.”
Holly could feel the dull sting behind her eyes, all too familiar and all too quick.
This was supposed to be their night, it was supposed to end peacefully, and it was supposed to remind them how important they were to each other.
“I am here, Holly, I try to be here as much as I  can but are you?”
“What do you mean?”
Yoongi opened his mouth to spit out the words that hung at the tip of his tongue but could not. It did not feel right, but that was all he could think of at the moment. Yet, her glassy eyes prevented him from screaming his heart out. He gulped and instead focused on his food.
He was hungry.
Yes, he was hungry. And tired.
“Yoongi? Yoongi, look at me. Why do you always stop like that? Tell me?”
“What?” he muttered as he looked up.
“Tell me what is wrong?”
He paused with a hard star.
“You want to know what is wrong, Holly?” he gritted out.
“This…This perfection- the perfect girlfriend who has mastered each of her boyfriend’s favourite dishes, remembers all important days…Like…Like…”
“Like what?” she was bewildered.
Was not he happy that she understood and knew him?
“I don’t know Holly…You have strived to be the ‘perfect girlfriend’... So perfect that I do not recognise you anymore!”
Holly blinked back her tears. She could not fathom his words, if anything, they confused her. What was he complaining about?
“I–I don’t understand. What do you mean? I thought you are happy.”
“Exactly! You are trying to make me happy…And you are not– you are not you anymore Holly…”
Yoongi felt tears welling up.
A whole year’s frustration piling up, ready to burst out from the tightly-closed glass jar.
“You are not the Holly I fell in love with. The one who often made simple errors in the kitchen, the one who loved desserts from her country and made me try them, the one who was curious about me, one who was comfortable in her own imperfections, the one who–I don’t know…I feel like I have never given so much effort in this relationship, and it seems forced to me, a responsibility…We are not the same people who met in that old-style ramen stall anymore!”
He knew his words were haphazard, they did not come out as he wanted, but at least he let it out. He never realised that he had raised his voice, but he felt the strain afterwards as he leaned against his chair- exhausted, frustrated, lost.
“I thought…I should learn.” she whispered out.
“Unlearn then…Please. You are a completely different person…You don’t need to be perfect, I need you here. You are assimilating, Holly, and I feel like I’m losing you. I am not perfect either, please. We can’t be this…This perfect couple, that’s not us”
“I thought–I mean we are getting married, soon, I should learn to live with you.”
Yoongi licked his lips and looked away. Growing frustrated with each passing moment. He felt utterly helpless, and it was his own doing. He just…
He shook his head and stood up. “I’m sorry, I never knew…You looked so happy that day.”
“What do you mean?”
She felt a strange chill infesting her.
“Yoongi?”
Yoongi gulped and ran his fingers through his hair. He messed up. And the guilt would not spare him a moment’s peace.
“I’m sorry…I can’t anymore. I lied to you.”
He could watch the confusion and he knew what would follow if he continued. He continued regardless, he had to let it all out.
“I was-I am not ready. I did not want to get engaged but you–I felt the need to reassure you and I thought that I would get used to it eventually. I could not…You just…You act like a perfect wife already as if-as if we are in a  fucking perfect marriage- we are not Holly! People are not perfect- neither should they be. I am not. And I...I cannot take this pressure anymore.”
He watched, with welled-up eyes as tears freely flowed from her eyes. The realisation where it all went downhill dawned on her, it was like Yoongi could see the process itself. He looked away.
She had been weaving a fairytale dream- and it was smothering him.
“So…So you lied to me? Y-you proposed to me, Yoongi…Why put a ring on my finger then?” she rose from her chair as well.
“I’m sorry, I’m so…Sorry. You needed assurance, I loved you, I love you still, but I do not feel like I am with the girl I fell I fell in love with. Not anymore.”
He felt the warmth of his first tear on his heated cheek and looked away.
Seeing no other reason to stay, he walked back into the bedroom, took his previously discarded jacket from the bed and walked out of the apartment. He did not have the courage to turn back and watch the damage he had done.
There was no turning back.
Holly stood there, flinching at the sound of the door shutting. She realised that her cheeks were damp. Feeling her legs grow heavier with each passing moment, she sat back on the chair. And she kept sitting there until the hour hand struck midnight.
With no sign of Yoongi returning, she stood up, opened the fridge and took out the cake she had baked for his birthday. She gave it a long, yearning stare, before dumping it into the dustbin.
—-----
Mr Kang’s office was pristine, and for the first time, she realised how unnatural and unhomely the perfection looked.
“Should we wait for Mr Min? He knows that we have an appointment, I think.”
“He is not coming.” Holly replied simply.
She was back at Mr Kang’s office a day after Yoongi’s birthday- he did not return home since he left.
“How was the date, Ms Wilson?”
“There was no date.” it was a defeated whisper,
“Any particular reason?”
Holly remained silent, she could not bring herself to repeat the stabbing words.
“It’s okay if you do not want to tell me, how about we—”
“I’m sorry, can we cut this session short?”
Mr Kang observed her for a moment, but before he could respond, the door opened with a knock, revealing Yoongi.
“I’m sorry. I’m late.”
Yoongi gave him a nod and bow before his gaze found Holly, who did not look up.
"The session is not over, I believe?" he eyed Mr Kang expectantly.
“Of course not, Mr Min. Please sit down.”
Yoongi took a seat on the other end of the couch, the distance between them had not reduced since their first session, which was two weeks ago. But this time, Yoongi noticed.
“I heard that the date night could not happen. Any special reason?”
Yoongi stiffened and nodded.
“I did not show up.”
Mr Kang nodded before writing something on his notepad.
“We almost had a dinner date at home, the night before my birthday.” Yoongi continued with initial hesitance.
Mr Kang gave him an encouraging nod “And how did it go?”
Yoongi looked at Holly, who refused to look back at him.
He turned to Mr Kang and responded “I messed up. I was being honest- but I failed to communicate.”
“Would you explain?”
“I told her that I proposed to her because I felt pressured to do so…Which is true, but not completely. I did not feel pressured because I do not love Holly. I love her- I loved her before I proposed, I loved her while I proposed, and I love her still. I just never saw marriage as a validation of love. Perhaps I have been too afraid of this…Permanent thing. Because I know that I can never give her the tranquil married life that she had always wanted. And she adapted to my culture, my language, and my way of life so easily, so beautifully, it only reminded me how I was going to disappoint her in future. She wants marriage, I don’t. Not because I don’t love her, no, because I know that I cannot be the husband she deserves.”
He turned to Holly again, who sat still, gazing at the floor.
“You had become so busy in becoming the ‘perfect wife material’, trying to appease me, you lost yourself, Holly. And I never wanted this. And each time look at you, I realise how much less effort I have been putting in and it makes me feel pressurized. Because I am not the husband you want…This was not us, Holly. This was not the love we built together.”
Holly Wilson still refused to look up and meet his gaze, refused to break the silence from her side that was eating him alive.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry Holly, say something…I just wanted us to be back the way we were. You were you…And I-I am still me but, not you.”
“If you still loved me, if you still trusted me, you would not have lied to me. You would have told me what you felt.”
She finally broke the silence, but her voice did not rise beyond a whisper.
Min Yoongi had never been the expressive kind, and when he said that he loved her, he meant it with all of his heart. He had gone straight to Namjoon’s apartment after the argument and when he spoke with the younger, he had gained a sort of clarity of his thought, his doubts and objections. Namjoon helped him see what truly was at risk and what truly had gone wrong.
And things had started going downhill ever since the day he decided to propose to her instead of talking it out with her.
“You have to believe me this time.”
Holly only scoffed.
The silence stretched on for another moment before Mr Kang decided to break it.
“It is a good sign that you are gaining clarity Mr Min, and communicating better. This is one step forward. However, seeing the situation, why don’t we divert our approach for today? Let’s do something lighter. Okay? Ms Wilson?”
Holly finally looked up, straightened her shoulders and nodded with a quiet ‘sure’.
“So, tell me, Ms Wilson, what are the things you love about Mr Min that even he fails to notice, or appreciate? Something that very few people notice?”
Holly sighed and began after a short silence.
“I love it when he pretends that he does not need attention but just puts himself on my way to gain it. I love the way he loses himself when he plays the piano, with the little movements of his shoulders that he does involuntarily as if he is dancing to the music in his mind. I love it when…When he makes a certain sound while contemplating a task at hand. I love the way he treats his band members as his family and I adore the fact that he keeps in mind my favourite tea brand, the type, and the cookies I like to have with it. I love it when he wakes up before sunrise and takes pictures of the rising sun, only to go back to bed again. And I love it how he takes the side of the bed facing the door so that he could keep me safe.”
She paused and bit her lips, trying to hold back the tears threatening to escape her eyes.
“And I love it when his hand reaches out for mine unconsciously, even in sleep. I love his low humming while shaves in the bathroom. I love his old pinewood perfume, I love how his cheeks swell when he purses his lips…And I love it when he gets drunk- the way his face flushes and he loosens up a little. I love the way his cold hands warm up with mine, like the sun rising on a winter morning. And I love it when he cooks for me- even if it’s a simple, untoasted sandwich, I love it because he made it.”
By the time she was done, a single tear had already traced her cheek- every moment she spent with him flashed in front of her as if it were her last moments on earth and all her life had been concentrated in those, tiny, but beautiful moments- moments she would never forget.
“And Mr Min?”
Yoongi sighed inaudibly and bit the insides of his lips before he began-
“I love it when she closes her eyes to the morning sunrays as if absorbing them, I have secretly taken so many pictures of her, with the little smile playing on her lips I adore so much. I love it when she makes tiny mistakes while making a dish from my culture- it’s cute actually. I love it when she faces me in her sleep and snuggles close to me as if I am her safe person. I love the warmth her hands provide when they touch mine, and I love the feeling of our fingers intertwining together like a vine, it’s a natural instinct to go for her hand, to hold her hand. I love it when she sings in the shower, it’s quite off the tune actually- funny to the ears of a musician but I love it anyway. I love all the imperfections she possesses and has been trying so desperately to get rid of. But I want her to know, that if she does, she would be giving away a part of her that I have always adored. I love it when she wakes up often due to my movements when I wake up to take pictures of the rising sun, but then pretends to be asleep. But I notice her irregular breathing and her fluttering eyelids.”
Yoongi chuckled at the end, all the moments flooding into his mind like an old film. He turned to her, only to find her looking at him.
Finally!
He mentally sighed in relief as his eyes met hers.
“Well done, Mr Min and Ms Wilson. The session ends here.” Mr Kang declared.
Holly stood up and walked out as soon as he did without another word.
“Mr Min, could I have a word with you please?”
Mr Kang’s words paused Yoongi’s movements and he sat back down with a nod.
“As much as I can interpret, the day before yesterday, you told her how you feel regarding the engagement, am I right?”
Yoongi nodded “Yes, I did. I told her that I only proposed to her so that she would be reassured of my love for her. But for me, a ring cannot decide out love’s depth. She had always dreamt of that fairytale-like married life- filled with cosy comfort and contentment. And I cannot give her that.”
“So, where do you think the problem lies? The differences in opinion regarding married life? Or have you subconsciously pushed her away, thinking that you do not deserve her?”
Yoongi was a little taken aback by the way Mr Kang detected the deepest roots of the issue- but then again, he was a renowned couple therapist. He nodded slowly and admitted.
“I can never give her what she deserves, my life would not let me- not until I retire. But even then, music would always be my first love, her actions, her efforts make me feel so…makes me realise that I am not doing enough, I have never done enough.”
“Maybe, it is not the ‘fairy-tale marriage’ Ms Wilson wants, Mr Min- maybe it's simply marriage is what she wants- marriage with you.”
Yoongi frowned at the conclusion, but Mr Kang continued
“Had she really wanted such a perfect married life, she would have expected and urged you to fit into the ‘perfect husband material’ frame as well, but she did not, did she? Yes, she did bring in some significant changes in her own habits which, reasonably made you uncomfortable, or, miss the person she once was. But maybe, you can try looking through a different prospect? Maybe she had intended to better herself. Maybe she has been feeling unworthy of you, or insecure too?”
“What do you mean, Mr Kang?”
“What I mean is that all you both need to do is to communicate clearly, and try not to hurt each others’ feelings while doing so. I believe Ms Wilson had not hurt your feelings- not at least the way you did hers.”
Yoongi could not help but nod. He had messed up- no, he fucked up. He really fucked up this time.
“Mr Min, I want you to answer me honestly, how do you see your future?”
“In future…Well, me making more music, BTS all over the billboards around the world- not just our country,- all over the world. Me and Holly…” he paused, contemplating, before continuing- “We will get a kitten, or two. We will buy a countryside farmhouse and spend vacations there. Maybe along the way, we…we can have a child of our own.”
Mr Kang scribbled something on his notepad.
“Hm, so you see the future with Ms Wilson?”
“Of course I do.”
“And what if  she is not there in the picture?”
Yoongi’s previously fidgeting fingers paused and knit together tightly
“I would rather not think so.” he deadpanned.
“So you cannot afford to lose her?”
Yoongi did not respond to the question, instead, held the therapist’s gaze with calm confidence.
“Then fight for this, for her as she has for you, Mr Min. Unknowingly, you have given her the impression that she is not important enough to you, you have unconsciously made her insecure and maybe that’s why she felt this strong need to master everything in your life and adapt so quickly.”
Yoongi felt the familiar sting behind his eyes as he opened his eyes to Hooly’s perception.
“Give her back the confidence, Mr Min, show her how important she is to you. Sometimes, it is important to show and verbally express.”
And all Yoongi could manage was a weak nod before he made his way out of the room.
****
So, finally, the first chapter of 'Steel Blue' is here, there is more angst to come. I intended to be honest regarding the problem the couple faces and not take sides and I hope I did justice to this, if not, forgive me, I am only learning.

Chapter 11: Cupid's Cat Curse (My Worst Enemy is a Cat)
Human by day. Cat by night. That’s how Scaramouche lived until you came back into his life.
Scaramouche/You
Notes: Cross-posted on Ao3. If you want me to add you to the tag list, visit the tag list post for the blog.
The master list for the other chapters is at the end of chapter one.
Three years later
“So, when do you think he’ll propose?”
You're at a restaurant with your sister when she brings up your and Scaramouche's relationship, which has been going strong for three years. While no one has pressured either of you into marriage, it's an open secret of those closest to you.
“Why are you asking me? I wouldn’t know.”
Lumine has a fork in one hand and a knife in the other. “But… are you expecting him to pop the question? C’mon, you have to have some expectations! Or did you guys already talk about it?”
You and Scaramouche were watching a Korean drama one night. You hugged a pillow as you watched a romantic proposal unfold on screen. Then, you reached into the popcorn bowl between you and Scaramouche and felt around for food but grabbed someone's hand instead. That snapped you out of the show, and you quickly turned and saw that it was your boyfriend's hand. He was looking at you.
“Is the show that good?” he asked.
“It’s cute. He finally proposed!”
Scaramouche used his other hand to put the empty bowl on the table. Then, he leaned closer to you. “Would you like a proposal like that?”
You pinched his nose. “I don’t think you can be that romantic.”
Scaramouche took your pillow and tossed it to the adjacent couch. Then, he leaned closer to you until your back hit the couch. He was now on top of you and staring into your eyes. “Is that a challenge?”
“What? You think this is romantic?”
Scaramouche leaned in closer… and closer… until his lips brushed against yours. Then, his soft-lipped exchanges began. Finally, his tongue slid into your mouth, meeting yours in an enticing dance that sent an adrenaline rush through your body every time. No matter how many times he kissed you, he always took you somewhere new, somewhere exciting, somewhere that no rational thought could reach. Your hands wrapped around him and pulled him closer until his body was flush against yours. Every small breath he allowed you to take came a moan that spurred him on.
Scaramouche loved how he made you feel. First, you arched into his touch when you felt his touch on your bare midriff. Then, when you finally got more than a second of air, you said, "I'm missing my show."
Your boyfriend smirked. “Fine. I’ll let you get back to it.”
But, before he could fully get off you, you pulled him back, and your mouth was on his once again.
Yeah. That’s what he thought.
“So… what kind of proposal would you like?” Lumine asks.
“Good question.”
Your sister looks at you incredulously. “You never thought about it?”
“Well, definitely not a public one.”
Lumine smiles slyly. “I’ll be sure to let him know.”
◆◆◆
You’re playing with Duke that night when Scaramouche steps out of your bathroom with a towel wrapped around his bottom half. Of course, as soon as you look at him, Duke steals the toy from you. Ever since you and Scaramouche got together, his cat transformation has been taking longer and lasting shorter. It’s strange, as none of you know the reason why. You even Googled it, just for kicks, and found some questionable content that had you take a break from the Internet for the rest of the day.
“...Say, what if”—you walked up to him—“we got married and broke the curse?”
“Are you proposing to me?”
“Sorry to disappoint, but I have no ring.”
Scaramouche wraps his arms around you and pulls you to him. Your head is against his bare chest, and you can hear his loud heartbeat. “This started after I met you. And now… it seems like it’s going away because we’re together.” You can feel him smiling as he kisses your head. “I wonder what would’ve happened if I didn’t turn into Prince.”
You look up. “What? Are you questioning if we would be together if not for your kitty cuteness?”
Scaramouche lets you go. “Maybe. I wouldn’t have saved you that day.”
“And you probably would never know that I kept that photo of you and me.”
The brief silence is broken when he says jokingly, “A soulmate cat curse.”
“Oh, God. Let’s not go there.”
“It’s a valid question.” He folds his arms out. “I’m supposed to be a cat right now. But I’m not.”
“Sounds like something you read about in fiction.” You turn around and see Duke, still clawing at his toy. “...Too bad Duke doesn’t turn human.”
"Let me guess…." Behind you, Scaramouche lightly wraps his arms around your neck. "One more person to help with chores?" Then, you feel your boyfriend's lips on your cheek.
“Not jealous anymore, I see.”
“Oh, so that was your intention?” He gently pinches your nose. “Not very nice.”
You chuckle. “It would be nice to have someone else help with chores.”
“Rude. When you already have me.”
You laugh. “Maybe he’ll do a better job than you.”
As if Duke knows you're talking about him, he stops playing with his toy, stretches, and starts grooming himself. You turn around when you suddenly don't feel Scaramouche's arms around you anymore. Instead, you feel something furry against your leg. Then, a scratch. You yelp and look down. Of course, it's Prince. You lean down to pick him up, but Scaramouche quickly jumps away. He looks back at you with narrowed eyes.
Wait. Is he mad?
Scaramouche hops onto the sofa, but instead of facing you, he sits with his fluffy, round butt facing you. You feel an urge to poke it. Then, he looks back at you pettily but quickly turns around when you walk over.
You gently squeeze his butt. "Are you mad?" Of course, Scaramouche isn't really mad. He just wants to mess with you. His tail brushes against your nose. You sit on the floor and put your elbows on the couch and your chin in your palms. Duke hops onto the sofa Scaramouche's on, and the smaller feline tilts his head to the right as if confused. "He's mad at us, Duke. What are we going to do?"
Duke approaches Scaramouche. Then, the smaller feline starts rubbing his cheek against him. Your boyfriend gives Duke a deadpan look. Scaramouche leans away, but Duke gets closer. Your boyfriend is about to stand, but you rub your cheek on the other side. Scaramouche is in a sandwich between you and Duke, and he's not amused. Finally, you pick Scaramouche up and sit on the couch with him on your lap. Duke is swishing his tail back and forth beside you. You put your forehead against Scaramouche's. "Still mad?"
You’re expecting a slap or an angry meow. But, instead, you get a kiss, which is more than enough.
◆◆◆
Aether is walking home when he hears a honk behind him. As soon as he looks back, a car pulls up, and the window rolls down.
“Hey,” Scaramouche says. “Heading home? I’ll give you a ride back.”
On the road, Aether talks about his studies and even a little about his girl troubles. Who knew that Aether was so popular? Scaramouche listens, occasionally offering a little advice when asked. But, it's what Aether ultimately tells him that really gets Scaramouche's attention.
“...and then she said she turned into a cat the other night.”
Scaramouche glances at Aether. “...Do you believe her?”
Aether frowns. “Do you really think people can turn into cats?”
Uh, well, if Scaramouche hadn’t experienced it himself, he would say no. You and Scaramouche had decided to keep his cat transformation a secret. The fewer people know, the better. Before Scaramouche can ask further, Aether’s phone rings. His conversation becomes a blur as Scaramouche is lost in his own thoughts. Can this ‘curse’ happen to anyone if what Aether says is true? It doesn’t seem to discriminate between genders. How would things have turned out if you had turned into a cat?

It's finally the week-long break, and you and Duke are staying at Scaramouche's apartment that night before your vacation to the mountains. Scaramouche comes out of the kitchen with two hot drinks when he tells you about his conversation with your brother. You almost drop Duke's toy, and the instant you are distracted, Duke snatches it from you.
“Does he know how it happened?”
Scaramouche puts two hot drinks on the table. “Didn’t get a chance to ask.”
You plop onto the couch. “Well, what if that means she met her soulmate?”
Scaramouche gives you an amused look as he hands you your drink. “It didn't sound like you believed in something like that.”
You take it from him. He sits next to you as you take a sip. “It’s the only logical explanation we have right now. It wouldn’t matter if I believe in it or not.” When Scaramouche says nothing, you put your drink down. “Why do you keep staring at me?”
He turns to face you and puts his elbow on the back cushion. “Funny how the girl who punched me turned out to be the girl I was meant to be with.”
“Yeah, well, I guess it was love at first punch. What can I say?”
“Well, you sure packed a lot of love in that punch.”
“I guess it was too much for you to handle since it got you a trip to the hospital.” You pinched his nose. “See? Look how much I loved you back then.”
Scaramouche leans closer to you. “Do you want me to show you much I love you now?”
You drape your arms on his shoulders. “Hm… I hope it doesn’t involve any love punches.”
Scaramouche kisses you, and the soft-lipped exchanges continue as your back hits the couch. He's on top of you now. Then, finally, he breaks the kiss and says, "...It doesn't. But I promise it'll be a much more pleasing experience."
Your hand slides underneath his shirt, and you slowly lift his shirt up, exposing his lean, muscular torso. “My, how can I reject something like that?”
“For free food, maybe?”
You laugh. “Ooh, now that does sound tempting.”
Scaramouche lightly bites your bottom lip. Then, he looks up at you with a mischievous glint. "Then, how about I cook something for you after I deliver on my promise?"
You take off his shirt with his help and run your hand down from his chest to his stomach, your gaze following your hand. But, you look into his eyes as you say, “Are you saying you aren’t enough to satisfy my hungry desires?”
He knows exactly what you're doing. But, while he's all for it, he wants to get a little revenge first. So he puts his hand on either side of your waist. "Try me."
You know what’s coming, but before you get a chance to say anything, Scaramouche starts tickling you ruthlessly. What’s worse is that he knows exactly where to get your biggest reaction. “Sto—ah!” Through bursts of laughter, you desperately try to get away. But, just before you roll off the couch, Scaramouche grabs your wrists and pulls you back.
“Careful.”
You playfully glare at him. “Whose fault is that?”
He puts your hands on either side of your head. "I'll make it up to you."
His mouth is eager and hungry against yours. Your tongues meet with fervour, and his touches on your skin make your body crave more. Soon, your bare chest is pressed against his as his hands are everywhere up your back and arms. Finally, you sit up and push him back on the couch, straddling him. Your clothed sex is rubbing against his as his fingers weave into your hair. Scaramouche kisses you harder, deeper as if his life depended on it. He loves the taste of you; he will never get enough. You're a drug he wants to get high on. Alcohol he wants to get drunk on. When he finally gives you much-needed air, you pant softly while staring into each other's eyes.
He presses his forehead against yours. “...I love you.”
It's not the first time he said those heart-fluttering words to you. But, every time he does, he always follows it with a kiss of a lifetime. One that takes you to a galaxy far, far away, where you lose all sense of time and space and where you're left dizzy in the aftermath.
Your hand travels downwards from his chest. But, just before you can show him the extent of your love, his hot, hungry touches suddenly disappear. You open your eyes, look down, and see Prince lying on his back. From the wide look in his eyes, he’s just as dumbstruck as you are.
You groan and fall on your stomach beside him. Then, you rub his fluffy tummy as he turns to you. “Guess this means it’s time for bed.”
Scaramouche meows. Then, he rolls over and kisses your nose.

"Thanks for taking care of him while we're gone." You and Scaramouche drop Duke off at your parent's house, where Lumine and Aether will take care of him while your parents are away.
Lumine hugs the cat tightly. “What are you talking about? This is like his second—third—home. He’s welcome here anytime!”
“Don’t have too much fun,” Aether says.
“Ooh, but enough for some juicy stories!”
As you and Scaramouche walk out the door, Aether gives a small wave while Lumine holds up Duke’s paw and waves with him.
On the road, you turn to Scaramouche and ask, “Do you remember our high school graduation trip to the mountains?”
“Of course.”
It was the first year the school was holding a senior graduation trip, and it was the talk of the school. People were already deciding who they wanted to room with, what they wanted to do, and more. It was a busy time, that's for sure. You and Scaramouche sat with a group of mutual friends, talking about the trip. However, his attention was focused on you.
By now, everyone knew you had accepted that scholarship abroad. After this trip, it would be summer vacation, where everyone would go their separate ways. This was his last chance. His last chance to tell you how he felt. While he didn't want to think about the consequences, the closer the trip got, the more he thought about backing out.
Would his feelings be a burden to you? Of course, the worst-case scenario was that he got rejected. But… what if he didn't? What did you think about long-distance? What did he know about long-distance? Argh. His thoughts were driving him up the wall, and it wasn't until someone said his name that he snapped out of it.
Scaramouche pulls up to the mountain lodge you'd be staying at, and memories of that graduation trip come rushing back to you.
“Why does it feel like we’re at summer camp?” your friend complained.
“What were you expecting?”
You and Scaramouche glanced at each other from two separate groups formed for a hike. Why was he looking at you? Why were you looking at him? You didn’t have time to dwell on your thoughts when your friends dragged you away.
After you and Scaramouche move your luggage inside the lodge and clean up, you say, "That hike… it was brutal."
Scaramouche laughs. “Why?”
“Do you really want me to say it?” you ask, deadpan.
Scaramouche hugs you from behind. “Well, I hope you’re ready… because I have a hike planned for us.”
You hold his hand. "Don't die on me halfway," you say jokingly.
He kisses your cheek. Then, his voice comes beside your ear. “But, you’re right, you know. That hike was brutal… because you weren’t with me.”
You gently hit his arm. “Stop being corny.”
“Why is my honestly always labelled as corny?”
You lean back. “...Fine. To be fair, I was sad you weren’t in my group.”
“Why the long face?”
You didn’t notice your friend come up beside you on the long trek. “Huh? What do you mean?”
“You haven’t said a word since we started this hike.”
“Oh—um—nothing’s up.”
Your friend eyed you suspiciously. "You sure?" You nodded as another friend came up on your other side. "Well, we were thinking about what we wanted to do tonight. Our group has some free time, so… any ideas?"
“...Maybe the other groups have some free time, too.”
One of them nudged you. "Is there someone you want to spend time with?"
Yes. “No. I just thought it would be fun for everyone to do something together.”
“Alright, alright. We’ll ask.”
After you get changed into a pair of swim shorts and a crop top, you head outside. Scaramouche is also in his swimwear. He helps you onto the paddle board before getting on his own.
“You ready?” he asks.
“As I’ll ever be.”
You awkwardly paddle further into the water with Scaramouche behind you. Then, you see him come up beside you with a smile.
You pout. “Are you laughing at me?”
“Why do you look like a Sims character?”
“Hey!” But you can’t help but laugh with him.
“So, does anyone have any ghost stories?”
You and a bunch of friends, including Scaramouche, are sitting around a bonfire that night. Scaramouche just happened to sit next to you.
"Ooh, I got one." As a friend enthusiastically told a story about a woman murdered in the mountains and seeking revenge, you felt someone's fingers brush against yours. You didn't have to look to know that it was Scaramouche's. As the story went on, you suddenly felt him grab your hand. You quickly turned to him and saw that his face had gone pale.
Wait. Was he really scared?
It took Scaramouche a moment to discover that he was holding your hand. When he finally realized, he quickly let go, but not before getting caught by a friend.
“Were you holding hands?”
Everyone turned to the two of you.
Scaramouche is busy barbequing when you hug him from behind. He looks over his shoulder. “Something wrong?”
You open your mouth, and he feeds you something he's been preparing for a while. Then, you ask, "Are we going hiking after?"
Scaramouche kisses your head. “We are. So, you better eat up.”
It’s the middle of the night, and you’re taking a walk outside after failing to fall asleep for the last three hours. Suddenly, you saw a light and heard something in the bushes in front of you, and you froze. What the… You took a step back until you saw Scaramouche appear in front of you.
You breathed a sigh of relief. “Oh, geez. You almost gave me a heart attack.”
He looked surprised to see you. “What are you doing here?”
“I could ask you the same.”
He put his hands in his pocket. “I found a pretty nice scenic view up ahead.” Then, he pointed back. “Wanna see?” You eyed him suspiciously, and he gave you a deadpan look. “I’m not going to try to murder you. Trust me.” Then, he held out his hand to you. “It’s not far, I promise.”
When the late afternoon rolls around, you and Scaramouche are ready to go hiking. The sky is covered in an orange, red, and yellow blanket as you set out. You follow Scaramouche without much idea of where you're going. All he promised was that the view was "amazing." And, of course, you had said that as long as you come back alive, you were fine.
“How far is this place?” you asked.
“Just a bit more.” He turned back. “Careful, there’s—” You yelped as you tripped on a bump in the trail, but Scaramouche quickly caught you. Then, you looked up at him. “I said to be careful.” You stood up and dusted your hands on your pants. Then, Scaramouche extended his hand out to you. “I’ll make sure you won’t fall.”
All you could hear was your heart thumping loudly in your chest. You quickly looked down. “I’ll be okay.” Then, you walked past him.
As Scaramouche watched you walk away, he shook his head. He was the one with the light. How were you supposed to see clearly, exactly?
You stop and look around. Why does this road look so familiar? Scaramouche looks back and asks, “You okay?”
"Why do I feel I know where we're going?"
Scaramouche smiles. “Well, come on. It’s almost sundown.”
Okay. You were officially tired. "Are we—" Your words were caught in your throat when Scaramouche pulled the large tree leaves aside and revealed mountains as far as the eye could see. Tree silhouettes covered the ground, and a calm, pristine lake reflected much of the scenery. You looked up and saw a beautiful starry sky. It was like something out of a painting that washed away your fatigue.
Scaramouche glanced at you, half-amused at the dumbstruck look on your face, and half proud of himself. “It’s nice, right?”
You turned to him. “How did you find this place?”
“Just came across it by chance.”
You weren’t buying it. “In the middle of the night?”
"I… may have found it during the day when we went hiking."
You gave him a sly grin. “Ooh, someone went on a little adventure on his own. What if you got lost, huh? You could’ve gotten detention.”
Scaramouche crossed his arms. "Do you know how much trouble we'd be in if someone found us now?" Good point. But you didn't want to go back. At your silence, Scaramouche gave you a skeptical look. "You… don't want to go back?"
“Well, what are they going to do? We’re leaving anyway.”
Scaramouche’s heart hurt. Yes. After this trip, you'd be flying to some other country far away from him. “...Are you excited? To leave?”
You avoided his gaze. You weren’t. “...Of course. Why wouldn’t I be?”
“...You’re lying.”
“What? No, I’m not.”
“It’s in your eyes.”
So, you sternly looked him in the eyes. “I’m not.”
Scaramouche slowly leaned closer. To your surprise, you felt the heat stretch to your ears.
“I swear you wanted to mess with me that day,” you say. You and Scaramouche stand next to each other, holding hands, as you admire the same scenery you once did so many years ago.
"I wanted to know why you were so unhappy about leaving." Scaramouche looks at you. "To this day, I still don't know. So, could you tell me now?"
You can, but it’s embarrassing. But, you swallow your emotions and say, “...I would miss you.”
“Okay, now I think you’re the one messing with me.”
“What! What are you talking about?”
“Why didn’t you just tell me?”
“I—well—” You take a breath. “Let’s back up for a minute. What about you tell me what you wanted to say that night?”
Scaramouche leaned back up and awkwardly scratched his head. “...Well, consider this your goodbye gift.”
You blinked once… twice… A goodbye gift? Wait a minute. You looked at the scenery again. “Did you—”
“It’s our secret spot,” he said, and your heart fluttered. He hoped you didn’t know he was blushing like mad. “Don’t… show it to anyone else.”
You laughed. “Okay, but I mean… I’m sure other people will find it, eventually. So…”
Scaramouche took a small breath, his palms were getting sweaty, and his heart was beating a thousand times per minute. "Do you know why this place is special?"
“Enlighten me.”
"The truth is…." Scaramouche felt like he was going to explode. "I… I li—"
“Hey! What are you two doing out here?”
Scaramouche is holding your hands as he faces you. “I wanted to confess to you that day.”
You’re about to hug him when he suddenly gets on one knee. Your eyes instantly widen. Is he… “But now”—he takes out a velvet ring box—“I want to spend the rest of my life with the woman I love.” He opens the box to reveal a beautiful diamond ring where there are two small cat ears at the top. Scaramouche looks you sincerely in the eyes and says your name. “Will you marry me?”
Chapter Twelve
End Notes: I was listening to a cheesy soundtrack while writing this, and it made me shed a few tears LOL. I love Scaramouche so much now that it hurts.

Chapter I
I abruptly woke up from my sleep, as I was currently lying in my bed at my family home. I carefully lifted my arm to look at my Apple watch to see that it was 5 a.m.  Surely that would give me enough time to get ready before heading off to the JYP headquarters, both of which were in the Gangdong district of Seoul. I was fortunate and happy to live close to the company HQ simply because my commute would be easier than most other trainees. I quietly went to the bathroom connected to my bedroom,  I was an only child but the only bathroom in the house shared 3 doors which were the hallway door, the door to my parents' office, and my room.  I carefully turned on the shower and took a warm shower all while washing my hair thoroughly.  After my shower I excitedly made my way over to my closet, picking out my outfit for practice today, unlike most of the other trainees in the company, I was the oldest having been born earlier half of my generation, which meant I had long since graduated from school and could dedicate most of my time to training and brushing up on new skills. I quickly slipped into my bra and panties, before sliding a short-sleeved black crop top over my head and onto my body. I put on light orange cream-colored sweatpants and my vans with some white ankle socks.
Tumblr media
After putting the outfit on I sat at my desk, which was like one of my safe spaces as I spent most of my time there doing my make-up and hair, South Korea was one of those places strict on grooming and the health of your appearance so I gladly took advantage of that. I pulled out my light caramel/almond-colored foundation and applied it, my skin was a Light caramel color as I was biracial coming from a Black American mother and Korean Father, simply put I was blasian. I put on a light but dark nude eye shadow near the edge of my eyes trying to keep it as natural looking as possible and put some pink-tinted lip balm on. I then took out my blow dryer and diffuser connection, as I was gonna wear my long curls out today. After drying my hair all the way, I carefully styled my hair with a side part and headed downstairs to the rest of my house. I practically skipped to the kitchen fridge pulled out some leftover Dakjuk and heated it, swiftly eating the bowl of food as I didn't want to be late. I finished the food grabbed a water bottle and a light soft coat and headed out, locking the door behind me.
When I finally got to the HQ I swiped my Trainee ID at the entrance and went upstairs to the practice room. A few other girls around my age were in the practice room already going at it practicing whatever choreography came to their mind. I set my bag down, as it contained my water bottle, a small cute blue agenda with butterflies on it, and some other necessities I packed for the session today.      A girl from the group walked up to me, and I quickly recognized that it was Nata, who was the only Korean trainee besides me who was bilingual.
"Hey Jade," she said softly, "wanna practice Mamamoo's HIP with us ?" I softly nodded as I walked over trying to figure out their formation and placements.
"How do you feel about doing Hwasa's part?" one of the other girls I wasn't all too familiar with asked. I put my thumbs up and smiled, "I'll take it." Nata then put the song on, and we all four got into our positions and began dancing full out while singing. By the time we were done with the song, one of the girls was coated in a light layer of sweat, indicating that this was probably the highest intensity in choreography she'd done.
"Can we do Dalla Dalla next?" I said excitedly, as the previous song had gotten me a bit hyped. "It's been a while since we've seen the girls since their debut, and we're not gonna see the others until they leave school."
"But Dalla Dalla is even more intense!" the same girl who was sweating blurted out.
" You can sit this one out if you want, " Nata said trailing off a bit in response, "the rest of us want to do this one."      The girl then sat off to the side pulling out her phone. I quietly thought to myself that the girl wouldn't debut any time soon if she kept that mentality up. Yeah, it's good to know your limits, but you would never be able to know what performance intensity you're able to reach if you don't even bother trying. I thought to myself some more, realizing I wanted to practice My facial expressions, as duality was becoming a big thing in the industry at the moment, I noticed stans from some of the groups I followed liked when their idol was able to switch their demeanor in the blink of an eye, and deemed that a quality and effect I wanted to have on any of my future fans.       Nata then quickly started playing the song, me and her and the last girl who I vaguely remember as Seumin getting into position, they allowed me to take the role of Yeji, who I dearly missed training with, if only I was as good enough to debut with her and the others. We started dancing full-out and singing, eventually reaching the part of the song where Yeji says My Life where she does her iconic dance move while also giving my best facial expressions when Bang Chan silently entered the practice room witnessing us.
"Oh!" he said taken back a bit with his hands raised. " I didn't know all of you girls were capable of this intensity"
"This was expected from you though Jade," he said beginning to point at me. "Speaking of, JYP sent me to come and get you— we were discussing some things and he wanted you in his office."        Confused I got up and picked my bag up following quietly behind Chan. He was one of my seniors who was pretty comfortable with me as were both around each other occasionally whenever he interacted with Ryujin and Yeji. He viewed the members of Itzy like they were his little sisters. But he also liked being around me when he had the chance because I was one of the few female trainees who spoke English, so it gave us something in common when we first met. He swiftly turned towards me as we walked to Jyp's office and shot me his usual soft smile.
"I hope you know you have nothing to worry or be nervous about," he said gently patting my shoulder. His words seemed to calm my nerves down a lot as I was worried that maybe I was being kicked out of the company. It made me think about how Chan's group had recently just lost a member, as Woojin decided to leave the group and company for some odd reason. The other girls tried to find out for weeks what his reasoning was, but the gossip dropped dead when they couldn't get any leads on info. We finally got to JYP's office and Chan carefully opened the door letting me go through first.
"Hello Jade," he said quickly, " I have some good news for you Today you're debuting in a group."      "What do you mean?" I said confused, as Chan took a seat in one of the chairs in front of us. Following suit, I sat in the chair anxiously tapping my foot. How could I be debuting if he just debuted a girl group and told the rest of us that he didn't think we were ready to be seen by the public yet? At that same moment, Chan looked over at me with a big grin.      "I think I'll let Chan tell you!" Jyp said eagerly.      "You're debuting into Stray kids Jade, " Chan said softly with a chuckle. I stared wide-eyed at Chan for some time, trying to fully process the info I had just been told.      "No way this has got to be a prank?!" I said still in shock, Chan shook his head signifying that he was very serious. "What did I even do to deserve such a thing ?" I said trying to regain my composure while also figuring out how they came to such a decision.
"You're like the only current female trainee close to our age besides the members of Itzy who can match up with our stamina and intensity in performance Jade," he said nonchalantly with a smirk, "that and you have the vocal range to complete us."
"He was telling me that the next girl group he was planning to debut was going to be a cutesy spin on girl crush," he continued, "and I didn't want him to waste your visuals and vocals on a group concept I don't think you fit." I softly mouthed Oh, finally catching on to why this took place.       "So what do I or what do we do now?" I said unsure of what the procedure was after being debuted.
"You sign your contract, and begin to move into the group dorm," JYP said butting back into the conversation as he placed the contract on the table in front of me with a pen next to it. I quickly but thoroughly read the contract, not wanting to sign myself into a deal that fucked me over. When I determined that I liked what was on the paper I swiftly Signed it eager to go back home and pack my things.
"Do you want me to help you get your stuff or would you prefer staff do it?" Chan said shyly with a soft smile on his face.
"I think I'll let the staff help me," I said softly with a light blush at his offer, " I don't want to burden you with helping me settle in."
" I don't mind helping you Jade," he said softly, " Especially since you're now my group member and my full responsibility."
I carefully got up from my seat, thanking Chan on my way out. I quickly headed home, excited to tell my parents the news. I got to the door of my home, pulled my keys out, and unlocked the door. I quickly slipped inside, calling out for my parents as I closed the door behind me.
"Eomma! Appa! I have some good news for you!" I yelled, not sure of their location within the house. I was starting to get slightly giddy at the thought of being with stray kids, not that I knew them that well.. but just the thought of having a group of people I would spend the next few years with, that would potentially become like a second family gave me a warm soft feeling in my tummy that I couldn't explain.
" Yes sweetie," my mom said coming out of the kitchen. She smelled a little of soul food, which let me know she was most likely making macaroni and such and those happened to be my favorite foods. My dad came down the stairs a few minutes later with a huge heart-warming smile.
"How's my cute little daughter?" he said as he engulfed me in a soft hug.
"Well," I said not able to contain my smile anymore, " I'm debuting!" I softly jumped up not able to contain my excitement.
"You Are?!" Both my parents said in shock as they almost broke their necks to look at me.
"Yes, I am!" I said with the biggest grin on my face, "I just have to start packing to move into the dorm soon."
" Well that's great!" my dad said enthusiastically, "What's the name of the group? I didn't think your company would debut a girl group so quickly after Itzy."
"Uhm..." I started nervously, "About that, it's not a new girl group."
"Why'd you start speaking Korean sweetie?" my dad gave me a confused look. " What do you mean it's not a new group unless he debuted you as a new member in itzy or something?"
" He didn't, He debuted me in Stray Kids." I blurted out quickly. My parents looked at me shocked my mom's mouth wide open and dad's eyes wide.
"He debuted you in a group with 9 boys ?!?" Both my parents yelled in unison.
"8 boys. Woojin left the company a week or two ago. " I said sheepishly
"Are you sure you're gonna be able to handle that? " My mom asked slightly concerned. "Wouldn't their choreography be a bit more stamina-draining since they're boys? "
"I think that's why they chose me to debut with them." I said confidently, " I'm like one of the three Female trainees in the company that can keep up with the boys stamina-wise. Even Bang Chan thinks my stamina and performance is intense."
"Okay if you say you can handle it then we will leave it to you." my dad said with a proud smile before hugging me one more time. "Just come eat dinner before you start."
After eating my dinner I quickly went upstairs and started packing my things. I didn't have much like most people would, I had like 6-9 pairs of jeans and 6 pairs of skirts all of which I packed in my suitcase. I packed my sweatpants as I was definitely gonna need those, and all of my sweaters, hoodies, and tops. I then packed all of my shoes, from my Converse and vans to my high-top retro 1's and my Demonia Camel 305 boots which practically took up all the leftover clothing space in my suitcase. On the lid area of the suitcase I packed all my undergarments such as my bras and panties and 2 boxers I acquired sometime during high school when I wanted to be more comfortable. I then removed my smaller travel bag from my empty closet and packed all my makeup, my flat iron, phone accessories, chargers, jewelry collection, and laptop into it. As I was placing my bags by my bedroom door, assuming I would move in first thing tomorrow I got a message. It was from one of the managers of my trainee teams.
Chat: Sua.mgt
Sua.mgt: Hey Jade, the company and stray kids wanted you to move in by tonight, It seems they have a lot of work to do for their postponed album comeback and they wanted everyone to be able to get right into their schedule first thing in the morning. I also got promoted as I'm now your individual manager so I'll be walking around with the other managers and staff stray kids have in public.
Crystal_Jade:
Oh okay that's cool, I thought I was gonna be able to rest in my bed at home one more time but that's fine.
I smiled as I sent the last message a bit excited about what was to come soon, immediately heading to my parents to tell them the update. Upon hearing it they hugged me tightly and wished me good luck before helping me bring my stuff downstairs to wait for the staff to come get me. I looked down at my phone and it was about 9 pm which was kind of late but not really late, I assume they all must have eaten dinner before deciding to come get me.
Sooner or later I heard a soft knock at the door. I got up excitedly opening the door to Sua at my doorstep and a black van with tinted windows parked in front of my house. As I did so she pointed.         "Welp, here's your ride and your help," She said with a giggle. As she finished her sentence about 2 people came out of the van followed by Chan who seemed to be wearing a mask and cap. Probably a safety measure to not be recognized in public by saesangs.
"Hey Jade," he said quietly as he walked towards me and Sua, " that's the other manager and our bodyguard, I really wanted to help you move into the dorm." I couldn't see his mouth but I'm sure if I could he would have had the biggest and cutest smile on his face. I then carefully pulled out my luggage and travel bag and tried to walk to the van before Chan stopped just a few steps out the door.
"Hey I told you I wanted to help you," he said excitedly as he went to grab my suitcase accidentally coming into contact with my hand, and then carried it into the van. I quietly followed him as I tried to hide the blush on my face. When I got into the van the managers all sat in the back next to my belongings leaving the only available spots next to Chan. I looked back at Sua to see if she wanted to sit between me and Chan but she instead ushered me into the car and told me to prepare my to put my mask on for when we got to the dorm in case of any saesangs being around. I carefully sat next to Chan as my anxiety was at 100. ' Why am I even feeling like this next to him, I'm usually never this nervous around Chan, I mean before this I was only really seeing him here and there but still.' I thought to myself. To calm my nerves I pulled my phone out and started scrolling through my social media. Sometime during the ride, I could feel someone's eyes on me so I looked up to see Chan carefully glancing at me. It's like he was trying to make sure I was okay or something. We eventually got to the dorm after two hours it was about 11 p.m. so I put my mask on.
Everyone got out of the van and before I could pick up any of my things myself Chan was already picking them up and bringing them inside for me. I followed behind everyone shyly to the elevator to get to the dorm not knowing what to expect when I got there. We eventually got to the dorm and Sua gave me a little pep talk before the other manager and bodyguard told us they had to part ways until tomorrow. Sua and Chan walked into the dorm after he unlocked the door so I followed them until they both stopped. It seemed like we were in a common room, which was probably the living room of the place.
"Hey guys," he said sheepishly with his hands softly rubbing the back of his neck," this is one of the new managers, Sua, and behind her and I is our new member Jade." As he finished saying his statement Sua waved and then moved to the side so I could greet everyone. I shyly waved, cowarding a bit kind of afraid to look up and not really knowing what to expect. Bang Chan then took off his mask and inched closer to me softly resting his hands on my shoulder.
"I Know you're nervous but you should still look up and at least greet your members," he whispered a bit worried, " I don't want the guys to get the impression of you y'know?"
In response to what he whispered I carefully looked up at the rest of the group and greeted them properly introducing myself.
"Woah she's pretty!" they all said in Unison, their voices dripping in shock.
"Oh by the way Felix," Chan said stepping forward a bit, getting closer to the group, "She speaks English."
"Oh? Really?" the lavender-haired one said looking a bit more shocked than he was a minute ago.
"Yeah, I speak English, " I said with a giggle, " I was born in America and moved here when I was like twelve."      "Oh shit you guys weren't bluffing," he said wide-eyed. One of the boys with dark-colored hair snapped his head in Felix's direction upon hearing the curse word and it made me immediately giggle.       " Well, I should probably carry Jade's things to her room," he said gently, " let her get settled in." All the boys nodded in response, and Chan began to walk off to my room gesturing for me to follow him. We eventually stopped in front of a black door and he opened it. The room was very plain like they left it that way so that it could be decorated the way the occupant wanted it to be. Chan carefully set my travel bag on my bed and my suitcase at the foot of the bed.      "Uhm would you like me to help you unpack so you can go to bed quicker, It is getting pretty late," He said timidly, his face slightly flushed.      " You don't have to, I'll probably unpack when I get the chance," I replied softly, a yawn following immediately right after as I covered my mouth. "Thank you though."     "My pleasure," he said with a cheerful smile as I could now hear the Australian accent of his clear as day, "I'm gonna let you get ready for bed now then." And with that Chan left the room. I carefully unpacked my travel bag as it was much easier since everything was already separated, deciding the suitcase would be dealt with whenever I had a break in my soon-to-be chaotic schedule. Opening up my suitcase I pulled out my pajamas, soft silk shorts, and a tank top along with some underwear. My phone then buzzed in my pocket, so I set my clothing down and checked it.
Unknown number: Hey this is Chan, I just realized I forgot to tell you where the bathroom is. Uhm it's the White door in the middle of all the black doors. The towels and stuff should be in the toiletries cabinet.        With that, I immediately saved his number picked my clothes up, and headed to the bathroom. I pulled out a towel and washcloth and took a thorough shower, feeling refreshed, and put on my clothes turning the bathroom light off as I walked out. It was pretty somewhat dark in the hall but I remembered where my room was. On my way there I slightly bumped into someone and despite being confused about who it was since the person was a lot taller than me than Chan was I immediately apologized not wanting to offend them. It was then that they used a phone to create a source of light and I could see it was Hyunjin, the idol that I usually avoid in the company because his visuals made me way too giddy to think straight. I could never have a normal conversation with him when I first met him because it's like my brain would just temporarily shut down. I one time forgot how to chew food and choked in the company cafeteria when he sat about a foot away from me and said hi. He softly smirked when he saw that it was me.
"Oh it's you," he said smugly, " I should have realized it was since you have such a petite-sized body compared to me." "Oh" was all I could make out, and it was at that moment I was so glad that the hallways were dark and that I was more tan than the typical Korean as I was blushing madly.       "Did you just come from the bathroom?" he said curiously. I couldn't quite tell his intentions with that specific question so I answered anyway not wanting to assume he had any ill intent.           "Yeah, I did. Why?" I said sheepishly.
"Oh, nothing, I should probably let you head off to bed then it's pretty late and we have a lot of music recording to do tomorrow," he said smirking once again as he walked off. All I could do was stare at him wide-eyed. I wasn't really prepared to be recording music so soon. I walked back to my bedroom and quickly headed to bed setting my alarm on my phone for 5 am.

Sometimes I couldn't help but think of the vast difference between the shipping culture of Korean fans and the international fans. International fans love eating up company ships like JaeYong. In Korea, JaeDo and MarkWoo are the most popular NCT ships. Yet I remember when that ranking came out, a lot of international fans were confused because it's not really the popular ships in the international fandom (in their own words, "Do these ships even interact?" lol). It makes me wonder if they even know their idols at all, because for example, I don't follow MarkWoo that much but anyone with a pair of eyes and ears can see how close they are, especially when watching contents and their own lives. Mark had said countless of times how he is close to Jungwoo and vice versa, they even dropped honorifics with each other. Out of everyone in NCT, Mark probably considers Jungwoo as his closest friend. But then again, their fans remain blind to this. Don't even get me started with JaeDo, but I think everyone already knows so I'm not gonna explain about them anymore. When I was a new fan in the NCT fandom, all I knew is I like Jaehyun. I hadn't explored any form of shipping culture within the fandom. I remember watching NCT Life in Gapyeong and that is the first time I am witnessing the group dynamics. And then I noticed Doyoung. That mafia game where Jaehyun picked him as his co-mafia was the exact moment that made me go "Huh, wait. There is something in there". Mind you, I was clueless about their relationships with one another. So I decided to watch more contents, checking if that was only a fraction of a baseless assumption, and boy... all I can see is JaeDo's chemistry, I would even call it the sexual tension between them that is so high up the roof. Makes me think if fans cannot discern the subtle group dynamics and obvious clique among members, because if you watch them closely, especially in contents, you will get to see who is close with who, who is fond of who. Even up to know, a lot of people do not acknowledge how obviously closer Jaehyun, Doyoung, and Haechan have gotten and that is so easy to see in their recent contents. Korean fans can obviously eye those relationships better than International fans, just see who the majority ship and you'll realize they are the members that are actually close in real life. Also, this is something that I noticed. A lot of Doyoung fans ship him with Jaehyun, either in a devoted or casual way. There are some who are dedicated Doyoung solo stans, not a shipper, but would tweet Jaedo-related content every now and then. They obviously adore Jaehyun and maybe that has something to do with all the doting (the pining looks and affectionate stares) and tangible forms of affection (attending DY's solo gigs, sending food trucks, etc) that Jaehyun does for Doyoung. But among Jaehyun fans... heh. He's so popular among shippers, majority of them that dominate are JaeYong and JaeWoo shippers. Does it have something to do with Jaehyun's loverboy image? It's so funny to see the contrast.
MarkWoo
"I-fans" is a super broad term, but I guess we all mean English-speaking part of X, and it is heavily influenced by Western fans and their ideas, they just overwhelm writing in English SEA and other i-fans.
I wonder if it depends on the type of involvement. Many i-fans seldom watch content with their chosen group, relying on short moments and re-telling on socmed. It also can be the difference in attractiveness of certain members or archetypes of relationships.
If we compare MarkWoo and JaeWoo. There were Jack&Rose, JaeWoo sightseeing in Japan, Jae teaching Woo bowling, they were roommates with TMIs, and there used to be many DJJ photoshoots. It is easy to watch this short list, choose to like the ship because of it, and later ignore everything else. MarkWoo had many lives, but their bonding moments are overshadowed by YuMark in official content. As you said, you need to pay attention to notice them in bts videos, listen to what they say about each other. And stan fanwars show that many ignore what idols say (Tae proclaiming his endless love to Do in the case of Tyongfs who hate Do).
Another possible thing. Koreans watch their idols like hawks, they follow their every move and interaction, make maps of stores and investigate how far the hotel Jae stopped at is from the venue Taeyeon had her concert, which Doyoung was attending, etc. They look for information to support their suspicion. What you and I did. While many i-fans are more of passive consumers, eating up what socmed brings, listening to what other people say, and believe what SM and idols present. Many get easily fooled by contradicting information and multiple versions. For example, Yuta said he likes Mark hundred of times. Jungwoo calls his outings with Jae as dates, writes on bubble he sleeps in his bed (when they were roommates), tells stories about Jae playing music box for him in their room, they make challenges (to mock Do). One clear narrative in both cases. Meanwhile Do and Jae don't know each other one day, tease another, say they are close and send each other food trucks, but don't congratulate with BDs on IG, their interactions are cut out from bts.
Many Korean JaeDo fans are Jaehyun-biased. Probably, the way Jaehyun is perceived, what fans he attracts and for what reasons plays here a role. Doyoung is also not popular in the West.

Random Headcanons for 4*Town
Yes Aaron T is amazing at skateboarding, but I have this feeling that Z and Jesse are pretty good as well and slightly Tae, but baby has no tricks.
They take late night trips to whatever gas station and buy all the snacks
The group likes to play fight!! You would definitely see two or three…. Or all members wrestling on the floor, but don’t worry it nothing serious or personal!! (sometimes Jesse, Tae, and T have to pull Z and Robaire apart because their “play fight” will start to look a bit too real👀 but it never is because the rival is just a joke🥹)
Whenever a 4Town song comes on they act like they don’t know who that is and makes fun of them😂
“Yo, y’all hear this mess? Is this what they call music? I’m disappointed… disgusted even”
“I think it’s that lil boy group 4City? 4Village? This shit trash”
“They don’t turn my tummy the way you do??? Sounds like kids bop to me”
“Yeah I heard about them, their shit ass for real”
“And why the hell they got 5 members? They can’t can’t count or something?”
They have movie nights every now and then and they always talk about their thoughts on the movie afterwards! (And if someone fell asleep during the movie they still get woken up even if they only saw 20 mins of it😭)
T makes them watch shows like family guy
As the two tallest Z and Jesse have a habit of holding things above their heads to make the other members mad!
They play games like “nose goes” and “1 2 3 not it” to see who is taking out the trash or getting the mail or answering the door and who is cooking (most of the times they have set dates for who cooks)
They also play those games if they’re at a restaurant and they are trying to figure out who is paying the bill, but that’s if they don’t do it together
I like to think in the beginning of their career they lived in an apartment/condo together and then after their 3rd almost 4th year of being together they moved to a mansion they got built for them!
I hate to put this here but once they disband, I feel the day everyone is packing, T will say he is going to keep the 4Town mansion instead of moving out and grow his family there! He doesn’t want the house full of memories to go to some stranger because they will never be able to visit it anymore so he is keeping and all the boys are happy he is!
They will literally talk in accents to be funny especially T and Jesse
They totally have like two trampolines let’s be honest here
Tae and T jumps on the other members backs when they least expect it (whenever they jump on Jesse’s back Z and Robaire always have something to say!! “y’all better chill he barely can carry himself with his old bones”. “The moment you jumped all I heard was a bunch of cracks”)
They all can be literal children and race each other to the car especially to see who gets shotgun
Z likes to buck at the members as if he is gonna fight them and it’s so funny
T lovesss doing parkour! Whenever they go to a park this man is jumping and flipping off many things! It sometimes scares random people and they leave👀
Ro bumps into people on purpose and says “oh! sorry didn’t see you there” but we know he totally did
If you walk into Jesse’s art studio without knocking he will throw pieces of clay or flick paint at you with no regrets
When they go to places like the mall they split up into two groups one of 3 and the other of 2!
They randomly choose who goes with who each time but T always have to be in whatever group Jesse is in because they will get caught if not
Ro, T, Tae, and Z talk about people (specifically the other members) in their other language.
Since Jesse learned Korean for Tae, they both talk about people
Z put everyone on to smoothie bowls!! he started making them a few years ago after his workouts, and he never went back. Now all the members love it.
They have certain days where they go out to their backyard and play different games like American football, soccer, kickball, baseball.
Whenever they play basketball together, they’re always fighting to see who will be on Z’s team since he’s the absolute best and knows his team will win 😌
I feel like this picture of Taehyung is definitely a pose T, Jesse, or Tae would do🤷🏽‍♀️ with a disposable camera 😁 (I canon Tae as 18 and T as 19, so the glass is sparkling cider)

Since tomorrow is S4 even though I won’t get to watch it until Saturday, here are my For All Mankind predictions:
This is Ed’s last season at least as a major character. He’s 70-something now. I have a feeling he’ll die since that’s how this show likes to send out its main characters, but even if he doesn’t, he’s getting too old to be the show’s driving force.
Sergei will bust Margo out of the USSR.
We will learn that Margo traded herself for Sergei and family’s safe passage to the US. She goes to work for Roscosmos and gives them info on NASA, the KGB looks the other way while Sergei and his family get airlifted out of Moscow.
Maybe Margo is a double agent? Mr is convinced of this. I wouldn’t be surprised.
Kelly and baby are living on Mars with Grandpa Ed. Ed calls his grandson (I think it was a son anyway) his favorite Martian.
Ed and Wayne have weekly emotional support phone calls. Maybe not. But they should.
Danny is still living in exile in the crashed North Korean landing module, probably starting to act like Tom Hanks’s character in Castaway. Maybe he named his helmet Wilson.
Things I’m wondering:
If 9/11 ever happened
If the American female gymnasts still won gold in 1996 (if they didn’t I will set something on fire)
If George W. Bush is President and if not, is it Al Gore or someone else
If the USSR will ever fall and how will it happen
If the Patriots won Super Bowls XXXVI and XXXVII (some things are important)
If the Red Sox win the 2004 World Series (some things are VERY important)
Depending on how many years the season covers, if the Bruins win the Stanley Cup in 2011 (again with important things)
Don’t know what I’m talking about? Get AppleTV and find out. You can watch all three seasons if you start right now.

Blind Date | Jeno Imagine #1
Title: Blind Date
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: Mentions of alcohol
Word Count: 1292k
Author’s Note: This was something I came up with last week, and I’ve been wanting to write an imagine for our adorable Jeno. I hope you guys liked this one ^ - ^

“Please (Y/n)-ah! We just need one more person,” Your friend, Eunchae begged.
You let out a sigh of annoyance. Eunchae and a few other girls were going on a group blind date with some guys from the computer science department. One of the girls had a schedule conflict, meaning that they had to find someone else to sub in.
“There’s no point in me going,” You huffed. “Guys aren’t usually attracted to quiet, boring, plain-looking girls like me.”
Eunchae’s jaw dropped, “What are you talking about? You’re not ‘plain-looking’ or boring. And some guys do like quiet girls.”
You decided to ignore her and went on your way to the dorm building. But your friend refused to give up and continued to try and convince you to come.
“Eonnie, I’m just not interested in dating anyone,” You tried to deny her again. “You should really find someone else.”
Eunchae clasped her hands together, “I’ve already asked some other girls and they said they couldn't. You don’t have to be interested in dating, all you have to do is be there.”
Feeling exhausted from this conversation, you looked at your friend and knew she wasn’t going to let this go. Honestly, you had no desire to socialize. But Eunchae was desperate and it was just one night. Also, you couldn’t resist an opportunity for free food.
“Alright, I’ll do it.” You gave in, and Eunchae squeezed you into a hug as a response.
She pumped her fist in the air, “Yes! Thank you, my friend.”
~ ~ ~
Truthfully, this was the first time you were going on any sort of a date. Eunchae said it was going to be a casual get-together, so there was no need to dress too fancily right?
In the end, you chose a simple black top with a white cardigan and a pleated black skirt. You weren’t sure what to do with your hair, so you just left it down. Any makeup you put on was light, as you didn’t see much point since you were wearing glasses.
The designated place was a Korean barbeque restaurant. The guys hadn’t arrived yet, but all four girls were there.
“You look so pretty today!” Eunchae, who was sitting across from you, cheered. “Whoever your date is will be lucky.”
You laughed and shook your head, “You’re just saying that.”
A few anxious minutes later, the guys finally came. Everyone exchanged formal greetings and got situated. You were kind of taken back by how good-looking the boy you were paired up with was. He had nice-looking skin and dark hair was swept to one side, revealing his forehead. He was wearing a plain white shirt and ripped blue jeans.
“Hi, it’s nice to meet you,” He bowed his head shyly after he got settled next to you. “I’m Lee Jeno, third-year computer science major.”
You found yourself smiling at him. “Oh, I’m (L/n) (Y/n), first-year creative writing major.”
“Creative writing? That sounds fun,” Jeno remarked.
“Well, it has its ups and downs,” You shrugged. Were you seriously blushing right now?
To your surprise, your date was able to keep a conversation going. Everyone around the table was chattering. But you still felt like you were alone, with this one person. Things got even better when the food arrived.
“Not bad,” You acknowledged, as you watched him skillfully cook the meat.
His proud smile went up to his eyes which formed into crescents. Cute, you couldn’t help thinking to yourself.
A few minutes later you asked, “Are you sure you don’t want me to help?”
“No, it’s fine. I can handle this,” He insisted while cutting a few pieces of pork belly with the scissors.
You frowned momentarily, before using your chopsticks to place a piece of meat on top of his rice bowl.
“You should eat some too,” You said quietly. In response, Jeno gave you an appreciative smile.
“Thank you.”
Honestly, you were a bit surprised with yourself. You’ve never taken such interest in a guy so fast. Somehow this adorable boy was able to charm you with just a few friendly exchanges.
Of course, there was a lot of drinking among the group. You didn’t like alcohol too much, so you only had a little bit. But it was a little unflattering to watch the other people at your table getting drunk as they poured more shots for each other.
Jeno, who seemed to be thinking the same, leaned closer to you. “Do you want to get out of here? There’s another place I know that’s nearby.”
Without much hesitation, you nodded and followed him out of the restaurant. No one seemed too bothered by you guys ditching them. You would probably have to message Eunchae later though.
Jeno ended up bringing you to the basement floor of a building where there was an arcade. The room was lit up with neon lights, and different types of games were everywhere.
“Do you like it?” He asked you, slightly wary of what your reaction would be. To his relief, you nodded excitedly.
“This looks so fun,” You gushed, your eyes scattering around. “Where should we start?”
He smiled and reached for your hand, “May I?”
You’ve never had a boy ask to hold your hand before, but you found this gesture so sweet. Too flustered to say anything, you simply nodded and let him hold your hand. He led you around.
“Wah, you’re so strong!” You exclaimed, eyes widened when he got the highest score on the hammer strength game.
His eye smile appeared again, happy to impress you. You guys played some other games, but your favorite was the claw machine.
“This one looks cute, don’t you think?” Jeno pointed to a Rilakkuma bear wearing a chef hat.
You took a closer look, pressing your fingers against the glass. “Should I try to get it?”
He didn’t expect you to say that because usually, it was the other way around. But Jeno wasn’t going to stop you. He was pretty surprised when you managed to get the bear.
“Wow,” was all Jeno could say when you handed the prize to him. You beamed and exchanged a shy laugh with him.
The night ended much too soon for the both of you. You’ve never been alone with a boy before, much less spent time with one. Jeno was a real man, but he had a cute side to him.
“Honestly, I wasn’t too sure about this blind date thing in the beginning,” Jeno confessed later, as he waited at the bus stop with you. “But now that I’ve met you, I think it was worth going.”
You glanced down, too shy to meet his eyes. “I also feel the same.”
“So…you wouldn’t mind seeing each other again?” Jeno asked, nervously pressing his palm against his first. “I know we just met and all, so I understand if you say—”
“No!” You lifted your head and shrank back when you realized you had spoken too quickly.  “I—I mean, yes. I’d like to meet you again.”
Jeno was relieved to hear this and you guys exchanged numbers before you had to get on the bus. He couldn’t help smiling when you waved to him from the window. His heart was still thumping against his chest the rest of his way back home. He couldn’t wait to get to know you more.

Harin gasped as she was embraced in a hug before the door had fully opened. She wrapped her arms around her brother as he slightly lifted her off the ground. They pulled apart with a kiss on the cheek, walking into the apartment.
“So?” Hajoon asked as Harin got a good look at his townhouse apartment. He went into the kitchen to continue preparing their dinner.
Harin nodded, impressed at the place her brother called home. “It’s great. It really is.” She walked past the dining room and onto the patio. “The garden is a nice plus!” She called out as she returned to the kitchen.
“Yeah, Tommy was adamant on getting this apartment because of the garden,” he said, stirring one of his pans. Tommy was his close friend and roommate.
“Tommy is very smart.” She walked up to her brother, watching as he moved on to chopping an onion. “What’re you making?”
He gathered the cheeses and eggs that he was going to mix together. “I know you can’t cook, but can you really not tell?” He teased, measuring how much of each ingredient he needed.
Harin rolled her eyes. “This truly just looks like you put your entire fridge on the island.”
Hajoon paused from where he was fetching the herbs he needed. “That’s insulting. I’m making lasagna,” he told her, adding the fresh parsley to his bowl.
Harin looked over the pots and bowls on the island. “Now it looks… more recognisable,” she said, causing Hajoon to scoff as he began to grate his cheese. “How’s the restaurant?”
Hajoon had started a restaurant with Tommy in 2017. Their restaurant, Seoul in Rome, specialised in Italian and Korean cuisine, influenced by their upbringing.
“It’s going good, it’s going good. We bought the open space next door to ours, and we’re gonna turn that space into a fine-dining area. We’re going to add a kitchen on that side so that we don’t confuse the ingredients for the different sides.”
She walked around the island, standing by the barstools “That sounds exciting. I think. I’m not quite sure…”
“It’s exciting,” Hajoon said, getting started on assembling the lasagna. He spread two spoons of sauce over the bottom of the baking dish that he was going to use, adding two layers of noodles over the sauce to cover it. “Thanks to the money you give us every month, we were able to save all the extra cash and put it towards buying the open space.”
“Yeah, well… I’m a humanitarian.” She bragged with a shrug. “But I’m glad that everything’s going well with the restaurant. I’ll have to pay it a visit while I’m still in New York.”
“Sounds cool! I’ll give you a tour of the place and show you what we’re planning on doing,” he said, adding half of the cheese mixture and sauce. He added the remaining noodles, cheese and sauce before retrieving the aluminium foil and covering the dish with it. He placed the dish in his preheated oven, setting an oven for thirty-five minutes on his phone. He turned around to face his sister. “You know you can sit down, right?” He asked, staring at the barstool she was standing next to.
Harin rolled her eyes as she pulled out the nearest barstool for her to sit on. “Forgive me for trying to work on my posture. Eomma might kill me if I don’t start standing up straight.”
Hajoon chuckled, washing his hands before drying them. “Would you like anything to drink? I can offer you water, soda, fresh fruit juice, and wine,” he listed off, walking to his fridge.
“For a house owned by two men, you sure do have a lot of choices,” she teased, holding up one finger.
He understood her request, fetching a glass from the cupboard. “We’re not just two men, we’re two chefs, so our fridge is always stocked,” he told her as he poured her water before passing it to her.
She accepted it with a smile, taking a sip. She played with the end of her hair as Hajoon began cleaning up the kitchen.
“What’s wrong, noona?” He asked, putting the herbs he used away.
Harin shook her head as she answered, “Nothing’s wrong.”
He shot her an incredulous look. “Then why are you playing with your hair?”
She stopped flicking the tips of her hair this way and that, reaching forward to hold her glass. “Um, I… I have something to tell you.”
“Okay,” he said, putting down the pots that were in his hand and moving to stand in front of her.
“Um… I–” she groaned. “I got back together with Dongwook,” she blurted with a shy smile on her face.
Hajoon inhaled deeply, his chest moving with his breath. “Hm,” he hummed before returning to organising the dirty dishes.
“Wait, that– That’s all you have to say?” She expressed her shock.
“What else should I say?” He asked, his voice void of all emotion.
“I don’t know. Maybe ‘Congratulations!’ or some shit like that?”
His back still faced his sister as he asked, “Why would I say that?”
“Because this is a happy moment for me and you’re happy for m–”
“I’m not happy for you,” he interrupted, causing Harin’s smile to drop.
“You’re not?”
“Why would I be?”
“I… I’m dating Dongwook again! We– He’s… We’re back together.”
Hajoon sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “And why would I be happy about that?”
“He’s… He’s Dongwook. He’s great, he’s–”
“The guy that broke your heart?” He asked, turning around and crossing his arms. “Or is this a different Dongwook I don’t know about?”
Harin nervously bit her bottom lip as she watched her brother. “He’s the same one, but… he’s changed. We talked about it. I forgave him. You can be happy for me.”
“No, I can’t.”
“Why not?”
“The only times I had ever seen you cry were at concerts, at–at–at your plays, or on other random days, like my graduation. He had you crying everyday for months. So no, I won’t be happy that you’re back together with him, okay?”
Tapping her fingers against her glass, Harin tried again. “Well, he said his family is happy we’re together again.”
He scoffed, rubbing his forehead. “Of fucking course they are, Harper. Why wouldn’t they be over the fucking moon that you’re giving him another chance to break your heart, hm? I mean, I can’t believe how naive you are!”
“I’m not naive.”
“Then why are you doing this! Why were you expecting me to give you flowers and shit for telling me this? If I reacted joyfully, it would mean that I don’t give a shit about you,” he said, turning around to get started on the dishes.
“Hajoon-ah, I know that you have some resentment towards him, but he’s changed. I know he has, and if you just give him a chance, you’ll know it too. I’m a grown woman, okay? I can make my own decisions without you judging me.”
“And when those decisions leave you calling me because you’re having a panic attack and you can’t breathe, I’ll remind you of that.”
A silence overtook the kitchen, only the sound of cars outside filling the room. They didn’t speak for almost five minutes, both trying to calm themselves down.
“You’re the–” Hajoon swallowed past the lump in her throat. “You’re the first person I’ve told. You’re the first person I wanted to tell.”
Hajoon shook his head, refusing to turn around and look at his sister. “Dinner will be ready in twenty minutes.”
“Harrison. Harrison! Are you being serious, right now?”
He sighed. “Can you take the plates out? They’re in the cupboard over there.” He pointed to his left at the overhead cupboards.
Harin nodded, feeling a dull stinging at her eyes. She sniffled, trying to regain her composure. “You know what? I lost my appetite, so I’m just gonna go back to my hotel.” She moved to stand up, waiting for him to say anything.
“You do that,” he said after almost a minute of silence.
“Okay,” she muttered. She walked past the living room and picked her bag up from the couch before going to open the front door.
“Woah! Hey,” Tommy greeted, standing by the door as if he were just about to open it. “Sorry to interrupt your sibling bonding session, I need to fetch something from my room.”
“It’s fine, I’m leaving anyway.”
“Already?”
“Yeah. See you next time, Tommy,” she said, pushing past him and walking down the long hallway. She turned the corner, continuing to walk down the hallway until she reached the elevator. Pressing the down button, she waited for the lift to come. After less than a minute of waiting, she heard hurried footsteps.
Tommy put his arm against the wall as he panted. “Harry said– Oh, just give me a second.” He took a few deep breaths. “Harry said to text me when you get to your hotel.”
Harin nodded, her lips pursed. “He doesn’t even want to hear from me. Great.” She hurriedly pressed the elevator button again.
“Hey, I know it’s not really my place to say, but… Harry may be younger than you, but he looks out for you like he’s older. I don’t know what your argument was about, but I’m pretty sure he was reacting from a place of protectiveness and–”
“I don’t fucking care what place he was reacting from,” Harin interrupted. “I just want this fucking elevator to work so I can go sleep.” She repeatedly pressed the button, visibly annoyed.
“Oh, uh, that button doesn’t work,” Tommy told her. He reached forward to press the up button, the elevator making a ding! sound as it began moving to her floor. “It’s getting fixed next week… But, just give him some time. I’m sure once he’s calmed down, he’ll tell you that he’s sorry.”
“Thanks, Tommy, but I… He needs to fucking grow up,” she muttered as the elevator arrived. “I’ll text you later,” she said, pressing the button for the ground floor before the doors closed.
Harin leaned her head against the back of the elevator with a sigh. She knew that Hajoon had some resentment towards Dongwook, but she didn’t know just how strong it was.She didn’t need his approval to do what she wanted, but to know that he was so against it… hurt.
