ok, since i havent had the energy to really post latwly, ill share one of my most specific hcs/interpretations that ive had for one for a long while:

the kill command... doesnt really kill the characters? it just teleports them to the waiting room (which, admittedly, i dont think has a LOCATION despite it BEING a location, if that makes any sense?

this stems from the fact that we KNOW corpses remain when a character dies. with liams cast at the bottom of the pool, whippy creamy finding charlotte, etc, thid is clear. so in a sense, when a character is in the waiting room, theyre there, but their body is left behind. even when theyre teleported back, it seems their actual body is teleported with them. sorta like their consciousness and body are teleported seperately but still at the same time

when a character is teleported to the plane, though, everything about them comes with them, as very easily shown. characters just disappear

this is important, because when texty uses the kill command to take the three of them out of stones world, we see that their bodies disappear, too. they arent dying, theyre being teleported TO the waiting room

i think its less clear if a characters body is teleported with them when they use the radio. if it were common, in the normal world, bodies would just sometimes Disappear, but then again, it isnt made clear just how common it is for people TO use the radio (its implied to be at LEAST very very uncommon, with only 2-3 characters ever being shown to use it, and if the crowd liam sees is an indication of the average amount of dead people each day, then it may be exceedingly rare. this, though, isnt super concrete so ill leave it on the back burner. maybe ill look at it another time) so maybe its not a large enough amount of corpses vanishing for people to notice. hence why im less clear about this. (airys lid? thing? IS still left behind when liam finds him. this could mean he didnt use the radio if we assume the radio teleports a While character, but once again, this is way more ambiguous)

this also leads to a related hc/interpretation, that the the computer ONLY teleports people, NOT other objects, even if they are held. we see this with taylor and her phone, but that could be brushed of if the kill command was viewed as separate from teleportation. bryce drops the flashlight when he teleports though. the only outliers for this, i think, is that liam keeps the sticky notes(+flashlight, apparently) AND is able to keep a hold on texty when using the command AND dying. the way ive looked at it for a long time, though, is that items Inside an object come with them, and the laptop something of functions as textys house AND body, kinda like a turtle

when theyre teleported to the plane, its noticeable that textys computer doesnt come with them. honestly idrk how to explain this one. the way i see it though, i guess, is that airy SPECIFICALLY teleported textys Text, so their laptop stayed behind. when they used the kill command, their text was teleported, but since liam wasnt holding onto just an object but like. a Person who was Also being teleported, the laptop came too. That, or the waiting room is just weird about textys laptop and functions differently with it than what either existing on earth with it or being teleported to the plane entails

abyway, the point of this being: the kill command is just a fancy teleporting function (which i feel like DOES explain why airy just had it lyint around, since he never actively chooses to kill a contestant, and he wouldve had to learn about them separately if they WERE different. he calls regenerating respawning deliberately, so it could be smth similar) and it does NOT teleport random items unless they are contained inside the object being teleported

twas a long time ago, back in the days of toontown online. the good old days, where i was silly and just did whatever and didn't know what depression was. i was a big sonic fan, and one day i came across some sonic the hegdehog toons, role playing. excited, i think i jsut made a toon and didn't even ask to join. i just showed up as a royal blue cat, with the pending name of moon the hedgehog (her full name was actually moonalia, i decided later. because little me loved smashing together random sounds and making names, as one can observe with the names from one of my original series, oath of life. the names of most of those characters were created when i was younger, and i kept them for the sillies when i put them all in a new universe). i roleplayed warrior cats on toontown for a long time, so i was no stranger to role playing. except admittedly we did a lot of weird things in sonic clan, and sonic as a series ended up introducing me to Internet Horrors. that's neither here nor there though. most of the characters were cat toons. this will be important later.

now. i don't remember exactly what happened but one can assume i decided to play two accounts at the same time and, since i liked htf, i decided to make my (presumably) favorite character as a toon, and make moon his twin sister.

you might be thinking 'since your icon is shifty, your favorite character must be shifty, right? but lifty and shifty are twins, wouldn't that make them triplets?' well. no. it's actually lifty. and it wasn't either of them, back then. 'then maybe flippy? or splendid?' splendid is kind of close, actually. 'aha! splendont! and it would work too, because canonically did and dont arent twins!' no.

it was nutty.

so moon was technically... a hedgesquirrel.

rin, one of my original story ocs, would have had a red sonic character, and porcupines and hedgehogs are at least a little similar. moon is blue. and hedgehogs and squirrels are quite different.

also i made nutty as a cat toon. i think maybe a mouse would've been closer but. i also made dragons as cats in ttr. neither here nor there.

i don't remember how it was received but moon being a hedgesquirrel persisted. i actually drew her once a lot later, and had to go through old deviantart uploads to find it.

Very New to your blog and the posts are probably way old but I saw you do Witcher Biology (??) rants sometimes and Id love to hear your take, if you have one, on what monsters (namely "naturally occurring" ones like draconids and insectoids) contribute to the ecosystem if anything and whether or not they should be hunted into extinction. I was discussing it w/ a friend last night after dealing with Iocaste, the last silver basilisk, and now its smthn I'm Invested in

re monster ecosystems: I just figure theyve probably found a niche in the world by now and can eat anything smaller incl. humans but because theyve got no natural predators aside from eachother and arent hunted by anything but witchers , monsters are just breeding and eating and wldnt that damage the land? or have they made their own like, circle of life or whatever ? Ive little knowledge on the subject as a whole but the whole thing intrigues me

hi & extremely belated welcome, anon! my apologies for the length of time you’ve been waiting for this answer; I had to think carefully about how I wanted to respond to this ask, because: there’s a lot going on here. also, because I am a disaster, I ended up posting it to ao3 first while I was avoiding tumblr for a spell and then completely forgot to come back. oops. i’m sorry!! This one’s about 5000 words long, which is a lot for tumblr, so reading on AO3 may be preferable.

The two main thrusts of your first ask (how do monsters interact with the ecosystem and should they be eradicated from the Continent) are questions of invasion ecology, the study of non-native/invasive species and their effects on the environment. Monsters, having arrived on the Continent about 1200 years ago during the Conjunction of Spheres from entirely alien dimensions, are indeed technically non-native species!

However, invasion ecology is…somewhat controversial, to say the least—there are a lot of invasive species, who have a lot of different & complex impacts, and a lot of different ideas about what we might do about any of this, and it’s basically all arguing all the time, so I wasn’t really sure how I wanted to approach the topic. Not to mention that for reasons I couldn’t initially put my finger on, it seemed wrong to apply theories of invasion ecology to the Witcher monsters. We’ll get into it! There are also a couple of common misconceptions/oversimplifications of how ecology works in your second ask which I want to unpack. Hopefully I pulled this together into something that makes sense, and feel free to ask me for clarification!

Some important background facts:

Species have always been moving to and “invading” new places on their own; humans and globalization have accelerated this process into a Big Problem, as the sheer number of invasive species being introduced all over the globe strains ecosystems already under pressure, but “native ranges” are always shifting, sometimes more dramatically than you might expect. If you go far enough back in time, all species are “non-native”.

Because of this, the very definition of “invasive species” is hotly contested. This is why you’ll hear dozens of terms like introduced species, injurious species, naturalized species, non-native species, etc.; these all have slightly different connotations, but all refer to a species that did not originate in a particular location.

An introduced species is usually classified as “invasive” as opposed to “non-native” or “naturalized” if its presence significantly alters the ecosystem it invades; some people define this more narrowly as a species that causes harm to an ecosystem. “Harm” can take a lot of different forms, as every non-native species interacts differently with the ecosystem they were introduced to.

Aside from various potential impacts to human economic activity, most forms of ecological harm by introduced species involve the decline of native species, by a variety of mechanisms; invaders might eat natives, outcompete them for food, interbreed with them, carry novel pathogens, etc. Invasive species are primarily a threat to biodiversity.

Now, here’s my Hot Take:

The Conjunction of Spheres is analogous to real-life ecological cataclysms such as the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event, and thus monsters are not invasive species.

The Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event saw the extinction of 75% of all species on Earth after the Chicxulub asteroid hit, including the non-avian dinosaurs. The Earth has had several disasters like this, of varying severity—the Great Oxidation Event killed almost literally everything on Earth except for the cyanobacteria who caused it. These cataclysmic extinction events completely upended existing ecosystems, altering habitats beyond recognition and leaving swathes of niches emptied of life that the survivors could evolve to exploit.

The most recent Conjunction of Spheres on the Continent is supposed to have thrown everyone living on the planet at the time into chaos and darkness; it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that the interpenetration of multiple spheres caused mass extinction of species living in the pre-Conjunction environment, similar to Chicxulub or the GOE!

But Socks, you might say, evolution works on a massive timescale! It took millions of years to fill the niches left open by Chicxulub, but it’s only been 1200 years since the Conjunction of Spheres! And you are absolutely right*, but the Conjunction of Spheres canonically came pre-loaded with new species. We actually have no proof that any of the animals we see originated on the Continent: if humans are a post-Conjunction phenomenon, why not also dogs? Why not bears? Who’s to say any of those were actually there before-hand? (The elves, I guess, but as they have not, actually, said so, there’s no proof!!)

* FTR, 1200 years is a shockingly short period of time to go from cataclysm that plunged the world into darkness and chaos to functioning medieval-era society considering how long it actually took humanity to build 13 century Europe (horses had been domesticated for at least 3000 years by that time), even if we’re not assuming that most of the ecosystem was destroyed, so, my timeline concerns here are minimal, lmfao. TIMELINE WHAT TIMELINE.

…and actually now that I think about it the three options for the origin of dogs are a) elves or dwarves domesticated them, b) humans brought dogs with them during the Conjunction, or c) dogs have existed for less than 1200 years, and I refuse to accept that dogs are practically a new invention in the witcherverse, wtf.

Anyways: we really have no idea which species are truly “native” to the Continent, or what the physical environment was like prior to the Conjunction. While monsters are not native to the Continent, monsters are also not invasive—there cannot be decline of pre-Conjunction biodiversity or harm to the pre-Conjunction ecosystem because there is no pre-Conjunction ecosystem anymore.

should monsters be hunted to extinction?

So, the thing is, I think we should try to eradicate invasive species from non-native ranges if we can; the biggest problem with that is feasibility, not morality. It’s much more difficult than one might think to eradicate an invasive species once it’s established, and we have to be very careful that the methods we choose don’t have other impacts, but invasive species are a huge threat to the biodiversity of Earth! If monsters are invasive species, then the answer is yes, they should be eradicated from the places they are not native to.

(Notably, on Earth this kind of eradication is not the same thing as extinction; it would be a local extinction, or extirpation, where the species is totally wiped out in the places it invaded but still exists in its native range. This does get way more complicated if the invasive is already extinct in its native range.)

However, I have just outlined a possibility that would make it plausible for monsters not to be invasive species. Let me also outline why I prefer this interpretation. Here is a book conversation between the sorcerer Dorregaray of Vole and Geralt:

“Our world is in equilibrium. The annihilation, the killing, of any creatures that inhabit this world upsets that equilibrium. And a lack of equilibrium brings closer extinction; extinction and the end of the world as we know it. … Every species has its own natural enemies, every one is the natural enemy of other species. That also includes humans. The extermination of the natural enemies of humans, which you dedicate yourself to, and which one can begin to observe, threatens the degeneration of the race.”

“Do you know what, sorcerer?” Geralt said, annoyed. “One day, take yourself to a mother whose child has been devoured by a basilisk, and tell her she ought to be glad, because thanks to that the human race has escaped degeneration. See what she says to you.”

–The Bounds of Reason, ch. 6

This is a, uh, incredibly unsubtle reference to a debate that has been ongoing for decades; Geralt’s stance here is one of the key arguments in opposition to wolf and bear reintroduction. What do we do about large predators that may pose a threat to humans? How do we balance preservation of the ecosystem with the safety of people who have to coexist with these predators?

I can’t fully agree with Geralt, because large predators are integral to the ecosystem, which I value for its own sake and because humans depend on healthy ecosystems. But I can’t fully agree with Dorregaray either, because Geralt is right: human life is valuable and worthy of protecting. This is an issue that India has been running into in the past ten years; as their tiger conservation efforts yield fruit, people become more likely to encounter tigers, and thus more likely to have a bad encounter with a tiger. It’s become a political struggle as rural people who have to actually live with the possibility of a tiger attack come into conflict with urban conservationists who just really want to preserve tigers (& in some incidents, some of those conservationists have been Western, which is a whole additional level of fuckery). The fact is, there isn’t a good answer to this yet! We certainly should not drive tigers, wolves, or any other large predator to extinction, but we also have to figure out a way to keep people safe. It’s something humanity still has to wrestle with.

Under this framing, which CDPR reinforced when they chose to have the Count di Salvaress defend Iocaste as an endangered species while making significant provisions to minimize the damage she could do to human life, there’s far too much baggage attached for me to say yes, monsters should be hunted into extinction. If you’re going to make monsters analogous to wolves, of course I do not think we should get rid of monsters entirely!

And frankly, Geralt doesn’t think so either, despite his hardline stance about monsters that eat humans. Sapkowski isn’t exactly an anti-conservationist; though Dorregaray is shown as out of touch in this passage, at another point the narrative sides with him calling Philippa out on exterminating a species of ermine for her fur collar, and it’s consistently put forth that Geralt’s best quality is that he doesn’t want to perform violence for the sake of it or destroy things without cause, and one of the representations of that is that he refuses to kill endangered species even at cost to himself:

“What should I say about you, who rejects a lucrative proposition every other day? You won’t kill hirikkas, because they’re an endangered species, or mecopterans, because they’re harmless, or night spirits, because they’re sweet, or dragons, because your code forbids it.”

–Eternal Flame, ch. 2

If monsters and other post-Conjunction creatures are invasive species, the nuance in this conversation is flattened, and Geralt’s refusal to kill mecopterans and hirikkas becomes a flaw rather than a virtue. Boring! I also think that one of the strongest themes in the witcherverse is the idea of all monsters being human ills; wraiths are manifestations of hatred, necrophages multiply because of human bloodshed, cursed ones are created out of malice, mages like Alzur and Idarran of Ulivo go out of their way to straight-up��create monsters from scratch*, etc. Iocaste attacks humans and takes livestock because the traditional prey of the silver basilisk, roe deer, has been extirpated by human destruction of their habitat. The aeschna in Blood of Elves attacks humans because humans have altered and polluted the flow of the Pontar, hunting the aeschna’s previous food (seals) to extinction. The true monster is the actions of humans. Monsters that appeared unbidden from another dimension into a previously functional ecosystem to invade and cause problems undermines this theme; monsters that are integrated into the ecosystem and subject to the same social and ecological forces as other animals supports it.

* Idarran’s “idr” monsters from Season of Storms absolutely should be eradicated. Did the world not have enough man-eating arthropods, Idarran? Did you really have to mutate horrible new ones and release them in populated areas?? Mages are a scourge, lmfao

Additionally, one of the biggest reasons I felt like I couldn’t actually apply invasion ecology to monsters was that, whether you accept my Conjunction theory as sufficient biological justification for this or not, monsters just don’t really behave like invasive species. It’s hard to explain this because the setting is pretty brief about its ecological details, but aside from the fact that the narrative frames them like just part of the ecosystem of the world, there are never any details like “that type of flower doesn’t exist anymore because giant centipede tunneling destroyed the soil they needed to grow in.” When monsters are the aggressors, their victims are always humans, not the environment or other animals, and again monsters are themselves often treated as victims of human actions.

So I say monsters aren’t invasive species!

Which means that monsters are, regardless of their strange origins, now a part of the Continent’s ecosystem just as much as bears and wolves.

So let’s talk monster ecology.

what do monsters contribute to the ecosystem, if anything?

So, the phrase “contributing to the ecosystem” is actually super loaded, and I want to unpack that before we go anywhere else. Ecosystems are made up of organisms, and organisms interact with and impact ecosystems, but they don’t necessarily contribute to ecosystems! The implication of “contribute” is that it is possible for an organism to not contribute, and it follows from there that some organisms are not useful. This is functionally nonsensical, and also dangerous.

Conservationists talk a lot about “intrinsic value,” which in this context is the idea that we should want to keep species around just because their existence is valuable! Biodiversity is intrinsically valuable. This is important, firstly because I do believe that all species are intrinsically valuable, but also: ecosystems are so enormously complicated that we do not know the full extent of any species or individual organism’s impact, and we can’t predict what the consequences of removing any given species might be. Treating all species as intrinsically valuable is hedging our bets. All organisms affect the ecosystem, because it’s impossible for them not to, and while some species definitely have outsize impact, none of them are “not contributing,” and frankly even if some of them weren’t, it would be the absolute height of human arrogance for us to decide we could tell which ones were useless when we barely even know what most species eat. Mosquitoes are the base of the entire goddamn food chain, and you still get assholes claiming they don’t “contribute anything.” Of course, most people don’t really mean all of these implications when they use the phrase, but I don’t find it useful to talk about what species “contribute,” and avoid using that language if I can!

What I assume you mean by “what do monsters contribute” is a combination of “what roles might monsters play in the ecosystem” and “are monsters actively harmful to the ecosystem, i.e. do they cause loss of biodiversity?”

And this is difficult to answer! As I’ve said, I don’t think monsters are invasive species, and thus don’t harm the ecosystem, though we know that monsters can be harmful to humans. However, when it comes to the role they do play in the ecosystem, there isn’t enough in canon for me to do more than wildly speculate! Also, there are so so many of them, and the role of a hirikka is going to be wildly different from that of a draconid.

Just offhandedly, most of the big predatory monsters can be assumed to fill the same roles as Earth’s big predators, one of the big ones being overpopulation of prey species, which has ramifications throughout the ecosystem. Some of them are canonically ecosystem engineers, or animals that physically alter their environment (think beavers); for instance, shaelmaar and nekker tunneling. Additionally, the big insectoid colonies can’t be relying solely on naturally-occurring caves for their homes; they’ve gotta be constructing some stuff themselves. These tunnels can be repurposed as habitat for other organisms, from giant centipedes to sewant mushrooms. Necrophages, like corpse-eaters in our world, likely limit the spread of diseases from decomposing flesh (and really wouldn’t be as much of an issue if everyone would stop, you know, doing war and mass murder, lmfao). Arachasae use tree trunks and organic plant material to conceal themselves, which is likely contributing to plant reproduction in a few different ways—but the arachasae decorating essay is a different topic that I swear I will finish one day oh my god—

…anyways, feel free to ask about any specific monsters or niches if you’re curious, but if I tried to go into detail with every single potential niche/ecosystem service all of the monsters we know of might fill, we would be here all day!

Let’s talk about a couple specific things you brought up in your second ask.

I mean…maybe! That is, yeah, they’ve definitely settled into niches by now, but feeding is way more complicated and interesting than that.

For instance: orcas can eat basically whatever the fuck they want—orcas are fully capable of bringing down everything from fish to seals to gray whales to great white sharks. But they don’t. In the Pacific Northwest, the resident orca pods almost exclusively eat salmon, while the transient pods largely feed on seals. Orcas are kind of an extreme example, but this is something called resource partitioning and it’s a big part of how animals limit competition with one another and what enables lots of predators to coexist in one place!

We see a big fuck-off dragon thing and we assume that it’ll eat anything it can fit in its mouth, and definitely some predators work like that. But just because an animal is technically capable of eating something and deriving nutrition from it doesn’t mean that it will. Silver basilisks made roe deer the staple of their diet before the destruction of beech forests meant they had to turn to humans—which is a pretty specific dietary restriction when there should be multiple species of deer running around, not to mention everything else a draconid could be killing! And given how many types of draconid there are…I have to assume there’s some kind of resource partitioning going on to prevent them all from conflicting with each other! For instance, if basilisks prefer roe deer, maybe forktails prefer wild goats, while wyverns are mostly kleptoparasitic (stealing other predators’ kills).

And of course, not all monsters eat humans at all; harpies steal from and attack humans, so they’re a dangerous nuisance, but they don’t seem to eat them. And in the books Geralt mentions plenty of monsters which are totally harmless.

So yes, there are lots of things monsters could be eating, but it would strongly depend, and there’s a lot of interesting places one can take monster diets! Netflix decided their strigas only eat specific organs, leaving the rest of the body untouche, & I love that for her. More monsters that need a particular kind of nutrition that leads them to take only specific body parts from some kills!

Absolutely—invasive species whose populations rapidly increase once they’re away from their natural predators cause the decline of native species, often by eating natives directly or competing with natives for resources. And in fact, even native species who become overpopulated can seriously damage the ecosystem (see: white-tailed deer in the United States, whose overpopulation has such negative ecological effects that some people argue we should classify them as invasive, even though they have definitely been here this whole time).

However, even if we grant that monsters are invasive, it’s a little more complicated than that for a few reasons!

Despite the apparent preponderance of them in the witcher games, most monsters are supposed to be strongly on the decline, like witchers themselves. Geralt’s profession is falling out of necessity; human development of the Continent is going to be the biggest suppressing factor in monster populations in the future. Monster overpopulation is just canonically not a problem in this universe! But even in the scenario where the Inevitable March Of Civilization isn’t threatening monster populations, there are a lot of factors that could and would limit monster populations.

(TL;DR for this next part: yeah I definitely think they’ve figured out their own little circle of life—the term you’re looking for is ecosystem equilibrium, btw!—& I’m going to take the next 1.2k to talk about how.)

For starters, predation is only one among many limiting factors that affect populations & prevent them from ballooning out of control:

food availability: If there’s not enough food, there’s not enough food! It also matters how adaptable the animal’s diet is—silver basilisks moved from deer to humans, but if the eucalyptus went extinct koalas would not switch to eating cycads.

illness and parasites: Some people argue these are more important than direct predation for limiting populations, and I am often inclined to agree. Basically, if a population becomes very dense, illness and parasites spread more quickly, creating a natural limiter on how many animals can live in any one place. The greater susceptibility of some individuals to illness or parasites also winnows down populations. Non-native species often escape a good portion of their native diseases by moving to a new range—however, given how fast bacteria and viruses evolve, 1,200 years is a pretty decent amount of time for new diseases to arise. Also, just going to drop a link to my treatise on monster parasites here. It’s gross, mind the warning at the start of the post.

mate availability: If only a certain percentage of the population is actually able to reproduce, that’ll eventually bring the total number down. RIP Iocaste’s boyfriend 😔

territory/shelter availability: Animals need a certain amount of space and certain types of spaces to survive, and space isn’t infinite! It again depends on how adaptable an animal is; rats find ways to thrive nearly everywhere, but pandas can only live where there’s bamboo. If there’s not enough space to hide from predators, reproduce safely, store food, and avoid adverse weather, the population again limits itself naturally.

natural disasters: Wildfires, drought, flooding, tsunamis, storms, etc. pick off significant portions of wildlife populations. Disasters are sporadic rather than directly linked to population like most of the other factors but these periodic blows to population and the other impacts of fire or flooding are often integral to the ecosystem (see especially: fire regimes and fire ecology.)

Now let’s talk predation & monsters! (Genuinely, I think predation is one of the most interesting things in ecology; people tend to simplify it down to things eat other things, which—yeah, but there’s so much more going on there!)

First, I wouldn’t underestimate the effects of monsters eating other monsters! Even if it’s rare for a draconid to snatch up a nekker and carry it off, the threat of a draconid doing so can have dramatic impacts; researchers found that just playing the sound of dog barks on a beach stopped raccoons from foraging for crabs for over a month after the barking stopped, leading to an increase in crab populations, even though no raccoons ever encountered a dog. This is called the ecosystem of fear (which as a term is metal as hell) and it theorizes that just the fear of predators can lead to chronic stress for prey animals, decreasing reproduction and making them more susceptible to disease. Maybe draconids in Toussaint eat only a few dozen nekkers a year, but that might cause thousands of nekkers to have fewer offspring or fall to disease. When it comes to ecosystems the direct effect is usually only a small part of the story!

Second, when we talk about a species not having natural predators, we’re usually talking about an animal that would have a predator back in its home range—lionfish, for instance, have plenty of predators in their natural range (the Indo-Pacific), but no natural predators in their invasive range (the Caribbean), so invasive lionfish, suddenly freed of a limiting factor, can run amok. However, a great white shark has, aside from orcas (who do not actually eat white sharks, they’re just assholes sometimes) and occasionally other white sharks, more or less no natural predators anywhere once it reaches maturity, and that’s fine! Lack of predation of great white sharks did not cause their populations to explode and consume the ocean. White sharks are limited by other factors.

So: it is possible that wherever draconids originated (and it’s entirely possible that “draconids” came from multiple different places, tbh) there was something bigger that preyed on them, but it’s not unreasonable to assume they were also apex predators in their previous dimension (I mean…look at them), and that adult draconids were never really preyed on by anything else! It isn’t necessarily an issue for there not to be predators of certain monsters on the Continent.

(Though, of course, we also shouldn’t forget that most apex predators are prey when they’re young—baby white sharks are snack-sized for a lot of fishes, and bear cubs and wolf pups are similarly vulnerable. Based on the size of the eggs you see in TW3 draconid nests, a basilisk is hatched around the size of a little dog, which is the perfect size for small, ballsy predators such as wolverines to sneak into a nest and snap them up—predators such as more wolverines or raptors like eagles and hawks might also come directly for the eggs.)

When it comes to smaller monsters such as nekkers, who likely weren’t apex predators in their original dimensions and would thus be subject to that lack of natural predators—there are usually specific reasons why prey species manage to avoid predation in their introduced range. Lionfish confound Caribbean predators because lionfish are covered with huge poisonous spines that Caribbean predators don’t know how to deal with.

Drowners, on the other hand, are basically just man-shaped fish; they don’t have any adaptations or defenses that would really stump a bear or a wolf. Again, bigger monsters are still probably checking the populations of smaller monsters no matter what, but there’s really no reason a bear couldn’t figure out how to eat a drowner! Unless a monster has a unique defense (e.g. scurver spines), is actively distasteful to eat (rotfiends, probably), or is just difficult to take down (nekkers in packs), most of the non-monster predators* on the Continent will have incorporated various monsters into their diet by now, or suppressed monster populations indirectly with the threat of predation or by competing with them for food. It has been over a thousand years, which is nothing evolutionarily but is still a decent period of time for mammals, who pass hunting techniques down to their babies, to figure out how to eat ghouls—especially if we’re considering that the Continent’s mammals may also be a result of the Conjunction and would thus have to have been just as adaptable as the monsters to establish themselves. And I’ve also actually talked before about how wolves specifically might be preying on necrophages!

* For reference, the non-monster predators are, considering the Continent is more or less Europe, most likely lynxes, brown bears/polar bears (in Skellige), wolverines, foxes, badgers, and a variety of large birds of prey.

So—yes, if monsters were truly overpopulating, then that would damage the ecosystem. However, canon tells us they are definitely not doing that, and there are also many factors that would prevent that from happening!

(Though I will say that some of the reasons white-tailed deer are overpopulated are that we got rid of cougars and wolves and human development creates a lot of extra habitat of the type that deer like. Given that we know many of draconids are for sure in significant danger of going extinct, and the trajectory that Europe’s wolf and bear populations followed in real life, it is possible that the Continent will have to contend with an overpopulation of some of the smaller monsters at some point as they continue to try to eradicate the larger predators, both monster and non-monsters—you think the drowner problem is bad now, wait until the bears are gone and city development has tripled the number of sewers. Yet another of those humans-make-monster-problems-worse things I am fond of in the Witcherverse!)

this is SUPER hard to answer so I’m gonna try to be accurate but this also changes very often. but also I’m just gonna go with my long term favorites. in no particular order bc i don’t think i could put one as number one

1. anyway just kidding my number one of all time is Party’s Crashing Us no contest. this is because it was the first song i ever heard of theirs, and I really only had heard sunlandic twins because it was the one my sibling played the most. (I started liking oM because of my sibling lol). It just makes me so happy and sad at the same time it’s such a beautiful song. I only feel alive when the vus flashing.. alarms going off in my heaaadd.. i wanna grab you and just kiss you maybe i should sit down no sense in cashing us nowww..... the partys crashing us nowww....

2. okay from now on actually in no particular order, an elurdian instance is still one of my favorite songs, and the one people tend to say is a “very me” song. although it’s really hard to choose off of skeletal lamping bc that used to be my favorite album of theirs for like a couple years. anyway it’s such a nostalgic song.. the bit about the mountain goats and the last summer as independents and stuff always makes me so ;_;

6. faberge falls for shuggie thank you very much. hissing fauna used to be my favorite album for a very long time and the intro to this song would just live in my mind forever. i love his screaming/yelling and weird voice in this one. he’s like speaking to himself in it (did shuggie do it yet? no. not yet) and i love when he does that shit. the instrumentals are so good. and the scream bit at around 2:00 is so delightful.

11. feminine effects is such a sweet little song and the “bobby baby” makes my heart go SOFT so so so soft. i dont know who the vocalist is but I LOVE her voice. i think shes the one on lousy with sylvianbriar as well? is that nina?? anywho. WAIT SPEAKING OF NINA shoutout to heimsdalgate like a promethean curse i love that line. dancing to this song live is like crack to me. i shout the lyrics every time

12. tie between triumph of disintegration, imbecile rages, and raindrop in my skull off of lousy. what a great country-esque album. i always listen to it when i’m chillliing. raindrop in my skull is one of my favorites because the aforementioned singer has such a nice voice.

SUPER STAR

Boost stars are 50% less powerful than power stars (aka 1,5 to 2,5 more powerful than a super star) and is way more rare and expensive to make than power stars, unlike power stars the energy produced by boost stars can be absorbed by living organisms and said organisms will not be invincible but they will gain telekinetic powers gaining the ability to move small to medium sized objects and beings,the boost star's origin's haven't been discovered as they appear all around the world with nothing converting the locations but they appear to have bits of moon dust on most samples of this star, the effects last 60 seconds after the original use

RUSH STAR 

the rush star also known as coin rush star is a blue star of similar energy capacity to a power star but its rarer than power but still very common star and much harder to extract energy from it,the energy can be absorbed by living organisms and it will give the user the ability to collect  coins from far away and the speed of the user is multiplied 3 times the original speed, after the effect of the star ends after 30 seconds and afterwards the user will feel realy tired and fall asleep shortly after, this star is used in races for more interesting games generally involving longer tracks fallowed by a who can stay awake the longest contest

The mega star is a mega mushroom power star hybrid, this species of plant was created by injecting concentrated power star dust into a mega mushroom seed,the mega star is the size of a grand star and is 2 times more powerful than a fully charged power star, the energy can be absorbed by living organisms and gives both the invincibility of a super star and the mega mushroom extreme growth ability making the user 10x the original size for 40 seconds, this is the first plant based star but it requires soil with huge amounts of star dust or moon dust and take a year to get ready for use

RAINBOW STAR 

Rainbow stars is a rare tipe of star known for having the colors of the rainbow,it has 7 times more energy than a super star or 2,3 times the energy of a power star, it is very rare so many people dont use it as an energy source but as a decoration,it can have its power absorbed and gives an effect similar to a power star,if this star is broken the pieces will turn into 7 mini stars of different colors 

RED STAR

Red star is a type of star similar in shape to a grand star but red and the size of a normal power star, it is 1.5 times the energy of fully charged power star (4,5 super stars), while it isn't usually used in public generators and power plants it is used in flying airship generators as the core of the flight generators, when used on a person it gives the user the ability to fly for 10 to 30 minutes wich is why it's used as cores in flying airships,it is rarer than a power star but still common enough for being used in the day to day lifes 

GRAND STARS

grand stars are the biggest and most powerful stars on the universe, while they're pretty rare they are common enough for private/governmental use, it is 20 times more powerful than a power star and is used as core in medium to large size spaceships/space stations, more precisely the generator of the spaceships/space stations,the tech used in grand star engines was gifted by princess rosalina,during the exploration of the dino island wich led to the discovery of the star road where most open-space era stars where found a grand star was also found, the grand star was stored in a special secret room in one of peaches most famous castles

GREEN STARS

Green stars are the prixie kingdom's equivalent of the power stars, in the sprixie kingdom the green stars are used similarly as power stars, they have the same energy value of power stars, it is unknown why the green stars are only found the sprixie kingdom, well they are also found in space but only is a part of space on top of the sprixie kingdom, green stars are usually used in generators in the sprixie kingdom power plants

SHINE SPRITES 

Shine sprites are native to sarasaland (and by association the isle delfino/ the delfino archipelago) it has 1,5 times the energy of a power star, the shine sprites are not only used for energy but also for light as the isle delfino doesn't have much sunshine doe to (minty fill this up I have no idea),the shine sprites look like a sun and they're very valuable due to being exotic and are only found in sarasaland, a commercial shine sprite (aka shine sprites that are sold/exported) can value between 1.750 coins and 5.000 coins

CAT SHINES

Cat shines are the most recent celestial item discovered on earth, it was discovered on the cat islands, looks similar in shape and energy to a shine sprites except it has a cat face, it has an weird affect with things around it and it is theorized that the cat bell and other cat like object are a result of cat shines, testing in cat shines entered in progress and is still not confirmed if its safe to extract energy from it or having it around as of yet, cat lovers will love cat shines

MINI STARS

When stars gets destroyed it turns into 5 up to 10 mini stars, each mini star has the energy capacity of 0,2 power stars, it is technically the most common tipe of star but sinse not many people destroy stars it's not usually used, when they're used they're used in small port generator's and some vehicles use mini star engines, mini stars are also the cheapest star commercially available around 50 coins per mini star

Star bits is the currency used in interstellar trades, it is also food for lumas, lumas are star base creatures, more info in the mushroom planet/earth species guide,star bits was originally a waste  byproducts of the star energy extraction process, after the discovery of the fact it can be used as food for lumas it became a currency used in most planets, the gold coins to star bits currency rate is 3 star bits per gold coin, star bits are crystal like and break easily so take care when doing espace trades

LUCKY STARS

Lucky stars is an interesting one as there arent many instances of it on the planet, it is similar in energy to a super star only a bit more powerful (1.25 super star) when touched it explodes releasing a celestial shockwave that kills anything in a 100 ft radius making storage of this items realy hard, it is also the reason they're so rare as most of them where activated long before cataloguing of these celestial items started 

DARK MOON 

The dark moon is a man made object invented by e gadd after an "anonymous ghost" proposed an idea for an item that could calm hostile ghosts and removing the memory problems most ghosts suffer, this object made out of mini stars, power moons (purple), and boost stars, this invention was completed in 2012 but was quickly destroyed by king boo the following year, it is theorized that the crown jewel of king boo's crown is made from the same material as the dark moon, some say he made it using the leftovers other say it was a stolen prototype, whatever the case it is really similar to the dark moon

STAR PIECES

the star pieces as the name implies are pieces of stars, similar to the mini stars the star pieces are made when super stars are broken unlike the mini stars wich come from power stars, these star pieces are shiny and valuable, these pieces while dont have enough energy to do anything it is a key component in power badges,these star pieces are also given as a present to loved ones as a sign of peace, these pieces are quite cheap generally selling for 25 gold coins 

 BIG PAINT STAR

Big paint stars or just paint stars are 6 stars originated in prism Island, these stars have been there since 2006, these stars are an unlimited supply of magical paint, it is theorized that these stars are related to bowser Jr's magical paintbrush as both paints have the ability to change the surrounding as it can changed ones mood and objects colored with the paint will stop working if the paint is removed wich was discovered during the color extraction incident in 2016, during said event a subclass of shy guys and sniffet were made wich can drink colors wich caused a lot of problems 

MINI PAINT STAR

The mini paint star are a smaller version of the paint star, these mini paint stars are weaker and can't produce paint like the big paint star but it can be used to locate other paint star but several are needed to locate the big one, these paint stars are generally sold as gifts on the main town gift shop, these stars are created by the paint stars every so often, these stars are in 6 different colors from each big star, the paint stars can be used to paint things making them a fine substitute for paint buckets 

DREAM STONE

The dream stone is an ancient pi'llo artifact wich can grant any wish, this ancient artifact seems to be made out of light moon stone, power  dust and mini stars, however it is unknown if its man made or naturally made, this object has as much energy as 2 grand stars but since theres just one it is not allowed for energy extraction, when a wish is made the dream stone will go to somewhere random, before the 2013 sleep incident the dream stone was considered lost but it was found and now is in national custody 

 DARK STONE 

The dark stone also known as the nightmare stone is very similar in nature to the dream stone,it can grant anyone wishes and is made of dark moon stone, power star, star dust and star pieces, it has 2 grand star of energy like the dream stone and like the dream stone its is in the custody of the recently remade pi'llo kingdom, it was destroyed into hundreds of pieces wich turned the pi'lloo civilization be turned into stone pillows until the 2013 pillow incident

The crystal stars are seven stars created by the shadow queen to "harnest the power of the heavens and spread the power of the shadow queen", the 7 crystal stars were used by the 4 ancient heroes to trap the shadow queen but they were cursed in the process, the 7 crystal stars are the diamond star, the emerald star,the Gold Star, the Ruby Star, the Sapphire Star, the Garnet Star, and the Crystal Star,these stars bestow the one who holds it great powers and attacks

Gold coins is the currency used in all kingdoms in the United kingdoms of the mushroom planet (ukmp), these coins are made of gold coated superball metal and in some occasions the named by the public cat metal in the sprixie kingdom,these coins are very small but artworks generally depicts the coins as giant solid gold coins, the 10 30 and 50 variants are worth as much the number says, each coin is bigger than the last and use rarer metals in the center, 10 uses metal mushroom, 30 uses refined moondust ore, and 50 is solid gold 

RED COIN

Red coins are a rare variant of the traditional coin, the red coins are a tipe of money made by the ukmp to used for trading between kingdoms generally involving important items, while some of these coins managed to fall in the hands of citizens it is strictly a government only items, these coins are valued about 100 coins each and 8 red coins are made per day by each kingdom in the ukmp, these coins are made of rubies and gold 

BLUE COINS

These coins while uncommon they can be found, these coins were made after the invention of the power switch, the blue coins have a unique property wich it only appears if a p-switch is active around it, if there are no power switches are activated they will stay invisible, these coins are made of superball metal painted blue but some Sapphire ones have been made,these coins are valued at 5 gold coins but the Sapphire ones are valued around 20 

PURPLE COIN

Purple coins was the currency used in space before they started using star bits as currency, these special purple coins are made out of purple comets making them expensive and rare, these coins are valued at around 100 coins (or 300 starbits) each and the few that have these coins generally keep them as collector items, during the first intergalactic expedition several purple "comets" appeared, most were purple comets but some were boxes full of purple coins wich landed in many planets

? COIN

the ? Coin is one of many technologies found/gifted to us during the first intergalactic expedition, it uses technology similar to the random block and item boxes from earth, these 3ft tall coins has a button that when activated will use stsr power to make a random object, from power ups sling stars and 1up mushrooms and other things will be made by this coin, it is rather expensive to recreate wich is why we haven't replaced item boxes with ? Coins yet 

DRAGON COIN

The dragon coin was the currency used by denizens of the dino kingdom before it joined the ukmp in the early 2000s after some debate whether sentient dinosaurs/dragons are sentient beings or just dinosaurs,these dragon coins are oval gold coated metal coins wich each is worth 5 gold coins and has an emblem of a yoshi in the front, these coins while technically outdated the dinosaur kingdom still makes the dragon coins and most shops still accept these coins aven years after it joined the ukmp

FROG COIN

The frog coin is a tipe of currency used by a species of sentient frogs that inhabit the seaside town, this town doesn't have a name for reasons unknown but frog coins can be exchanged for rare items in shops owned by these frogs, frog coins are made of silver painted green with a frog emblem in the front, these coins are technically a currency tipe with a 2 gold coin to frog coin ratio, there are not many manufacturer of these coins so they're quite rare 

STAR COIN

The star coin is a tipe of governmental coin made of gold, refined moon stone, power stars and stardust, these rare coins are used by kingdoms as a way to trade highly expensive goods as these coins are worth 3500 coins and are governmental properties, the star coins were first made by the ukmp in 2006 with 2 star coins gifted to each kingdom to be a start, these star coins are very rare since they were never meant to be public property but wario managed to get one, how it was not revealed but if its wario it either involves shady business or a who,e bunch or money 

ACE COINS 

Ace coins are coins made of copper and was the currency long time ago, these coins are Similar in shape to the dragon coin but has an A in the front, it would in modern day be worth 0,1 gold coins but since they are so rare and old its worth 50 coins because of the historical value of these coins, in 2001 during a test trial of the subcon potion a bag of brand new ace coins were found, these ace coins are an archeological wonder of the old world 

ADVANCE COIN

The advance coins are very similar to the ace coin as it has the same A symbol of the ace coin and has a similar shape to it, however unlike the ace coin the advance coin is more recent and is made of gold, this coin is quite rare and can be worth 100 coins and is in museums all over the world,these coins were used between-2700 to early 200s with the newest advance coin was made in the year 300,the e island had the most advance coins of all, over 9700 advace were found in the first year alone in the local archeological site

MOON COIN

The moon coin is a limited edition coin made between 2012 and 2014 to celebrate the recent moon colonization success, these coins are made of moon gold, power moons and refined moon stone, because of the expansive ingredients its one of the most expensive coins available to the public at a wapping 400 normal coins per moon coin, moon coins has celestial energy but it is generally not used so not to damage the coin 

GREEN COINS

The More I Watch 14x13

And we now have 5 times, the more I believe the “hand hold” scene was intentional. Im not going to factor in wardrobe choices, thats just too “heller” for me, but only what we’ve just seen. Sam and Dean, and Mary and John, mirroed each other during the dinner scene. When one couple laughed, so did the other, when one looked at the other lovingly, so did the other couple, And I may add, though I hate when Sam is feminized, that Sam did look a bit feminine when he put his hand to his chest “That wasnt me” with that big smile. 

So then we have the boys washing dishes together, which was adorable in itself, but they’re having a deep conversation. Dean turns his back to the sink, which wasnt necessary for the convo, but necessary to put him in the right position to take Sam’s hand. He stated “I am good with who I am.,.. and Im good with who you are too. And maybe Im just too old to try to change that” which would be a nice time to hold Sam’s hand.... if he was going to. But cut right away to John taking Mary’s hand, which at that moment was unnecessary, and even impractical since he let go to talk to/hug the boys, and then take Mary’s hand again. 

Throughout the series we have been shown similarities between the boys and their parents. Of course theyre not just like them, but we can see where each gets certain traits. I cant help but think Sam and Dean’s love for each other is similar to John and Mary’s love. Sam and Dean though, have had time to develop it more, and improve it, as well as sinking deeper and deeper into it,. At the earliest time of John and Mary’s relationship, we see her make a deal without knowing the outcome to save John. Something Sam has gotten pretty good at doing for Dean. We saw John in this last episode, choose Mary over himself with no contest, something Dean is a pro at. The only big difference I see in the two seperate relationships is that John and Mary, though deeply in love, arent soul mates... Mary only had Memory!John in Heaven and not the John that died.

huang xing qiao got very, VERY popular after the fiesta performance, due to her huge improvement.

usually on shows like these, participants who show a growth over the show end up becoming more or as popular as those who are good from the get-go. just look at the produce series: sohye from pd101, guanlin from pd101 s2 and hyewon from pd48 were all extremely popular contestants, even tho they all started in that show's f group, because of their advancement in skill.

i theorise that it's similar to the underdog phenomenon: we like to vote for and support the people who aren't necessarily is as skilled as those at the top, (not saying huang xing qiao is unskilled, because her dancing is amazing for someone of her experience, and her voice is 😍, just that she's not skilled as someone with as much experience as shen xiao ting, for example) because it feels good when they succeed (a similar thing happened with wenzhe).

i don't know if huang xing qiao will end up in the debut group (i would very like her to, as she's my favourite contestant in the show, rip to my baby lee chaeyun) but her popularity wasn't all that surprising to me, tbh

yeah i was thinking haha, i wonder if xingqiao is the sohye of this season.... tho tbh, i dont really think that's quite accurate. it's not a 1-to-1 comparison, and honestly hyewon isnt quite the same deal as sohye either, tho i think pd48 tried to turn hyewon into sohye 2.0 lol. sohye's deal was that she was like a complete fish out of water, and she never really got anywhere near the level of the other ioi members, but through her sheer determination and stuff she made it and we love her to death for it haha. xingqiao doesnt seem quite like that, because i think she's starting from a place of more talent than the show gives her credit for. her improvement seemed mostly mental to me, with regards to practice and mentality and stuff. you know what i mean? confidence and stuff haha.

hmmmmm i'm trying to think of a produce trainee who xingqiao reminds me more of, but i cant really...... and thats fine haha, her story is her own, of course!

anyway yeah that all makes sense, i also was really impressed by her! i just didnt expect her to be THAT high. tho tbh, as i look at the rest of c group, the only one i thought would definitely be higher is cai bing, and even then, im not super surprised that she's not.

one thing i will say tho........ and this might be a controversial thing to even suggest..... but i wonder if there's any rigging going on.... i feel like mnet isnt stupid enough to outright rig it fully and eliminate trainees who shouldnt have been eliminated, at least i hope they arent doing that, but i do wonder if maybe they moved some of the advancing trainees around a bit, just in order to create drama. like, out of the pool of trainees who moved on through voting, maybe they'll switch the ones in 4th and 5th place or something. that type of thing. just for drama. because if this ranking was mostly the exact same as the last one, and the final ranking was too, that wouldnt be exciting. you know? i think if they were gonna do that at any point, it'd be now, in order to create a twist AND give a feeling of a redemption arc or resurgence for the trainees who are guaranteed to win (like yujin and yeseo and such).

though hey, if the final lineup does only have 2 korean members, i think that would be a very interesting twist, and i would really wanna see how that goes! that would break the mold in a big way, because even though this is an international show in theory, it's still very much a korean show haha. so it could be historic! tho i still feel like the final group will have more korean members than japanese or chinese. just cause that's how things are.... hmmm... we'll see.

A slew of dismal summer polls and a persistent fundraising gap have left some Republicans fretting about a nightmare scenarioin November: Thatthey will fall further into the House minority.

Publicly, House GOP leaders are declaring they can still net the 17 seats needed to flip the chamber. But privately, some party strategists concede its a much grimmer picture, with as many as 20 Republican seats at risk of falling into Democratic hands.

Far from going on offense, the GOP could be forced to retrench in order to limit its losses.Theres a growing fear that President Donald Trumps plummeting popularity in the suburbs could threaten GOP candidates in traditionally favorable districts, and that their partys eagerness to go on offense might leave some underfunded incumbents and open GOP-held seats unprotected.

Internal Democratic surveys in recent weeks have shown tight races in once-solid GOPseats in Indiana, Texas, Michigan, Ohio and Montana that Trump carried handily 2016 data that suggest the battleground is veering in a dangerous direction for the GOP.

The Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929 was the result of a battle between rural and urban areas of the United States following the 1920 Census. The formula for distributing seats in the House based on population favored urbanized states and penalized smaller rural states at the time, and Congress could not agree on a reapportionment plan.

After the 1910 census, when the House grew from 391 members to 433 , the growth stopped. Thats because the 1920 census indicated that the majority of Americans were concentrating in cities, and nativists, worried about of the power of foreigners, blocked efforts to give them more representatives, wrote Dalton Conley, a professor of sociology, medicine and public policy at New York University, and Jacqueline Stevens, a professor of political science at Northwestern University.

Joe Biden was facing the biggest crisis of his presidency on Monday after the stunning fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban caught his administration flat-footed and raised fears of a humanitarian catastrophe.

Recriminations were under way in Washington over the chaotic retreat from Kabul, which one Biden opponent described as the embarrassment of a superpower laid low.

Bowing to pressure, officials said the president would leave his country retreat, Camp David, to address the nation from the White House on Monday afternoon.

The Taliban swept into Kabul on Sunday after President Ashraf Ghani fled the country, ending two decades of a failed experiment to import western-style liberal democracy. Diplomatic staff were flown to safety but thousands of Afghans who worked with US forces were stranded and at risk of deadly reprisals.

As harrowing scenes played out on television including desperate Afghans clinging to a US transport plane before takeoff the White House scrambled to explain how the government collapsed so quickly.

Last month Biden, pointing to the Afghan militarys superior numbers and technology, predicted: The likelihood theres going to be the Taliban overrunning everything and owning the whole country is highly unlikely.

Unrepentant, the president issued a statement on Saturday, insisting the sudden withdrawal had been the only possible choice.

While the majority of the Republican caucus will still be men come 2021, there will be far more Republican women in Congress than there were this year. So far, it looks like at least 26 GOP women will be in the House next year, surpassing the record of 25 from the 109th Congress. Thats thanks in part to the record number of non-incumbent Republican women 15 whove won House contests. And its also because of how well Republican women did in tight races. Big bets on policy also don’t necessarily pay off at the ballot box, a lesson Democrats learned a decade ago when they passed the Affordable Care Act. President Barack Obama’s domestic policy achievement also helped decimate congressional Democratic majorities in the 2010 and 2014 midterm elections.

It’s just one reason why Republicans feel good about their chances in 2022, along with structural advantages like the redistricting process, where House districts are redrawn every decade to reflect population changes. Republicans control the process in more states and are better positioned to gain seats.

“This deck is already stacked, because they’ve been gerrymandering these districts,” Maloney says. “And now they’re trying to do even more of it and add to that with these Jim Crow-style voter suppression laws throughout the country.”

He maintains that efforts among Republican-led state legislatures to enact more voting restrictions show the party has a losing policy hand for the midterm elections.

Democrats maintained a majority in the U.S. House as a result of the 2020 elections, winning 222 seats to Republicans 213. Democrats flipped three seats and Republicans flipped 15, including one held by a Libertarian in 2020.

Democrats hold the balance of power in Washington, D.C., but their margin is wafer-thin: Joe Biden is president, and the party controls both houses of Congress only very narrowly. Theyve already enacted $1.9 trillion of economic stimulus. Theyre haggling with Republicans over the size of a bipartisan infrastructure bill. And theyre keen to pass a new voting rights law, although moderate Sen. Joe Manchin III might scuttle the effort.

Still, their time in the majority might be limited. We live in an era of bitter, closely divided elections. And in 2022, Republicans have two advantages that might soon give them the edge in the House.

The Republicans first advantage: The other party holds the White House. If Biden follows the path of other recent presidents, hell spend political capital, navigate crises and lose supporters in the process.

Barack Obama summarized this dynamic two years into his presidency: In the rush of activity, sometimes we lose track of the ways that we connected with folks that got us here in the first place. As a check on the regional, popular, and rapidly changing politics of the House, the Senate has several distinct powers. For example, the “advice and consent” powers are a sole Senate privilege. The House, however, has the exclusive power to initiate bills for raising revenue, to impeach officials, and to choose the president if a presidential candidate fails to get a majority of the Electoral College votes. Republicans Win Fewer Votes But More Seats Than Democrats

Republicans controlled the post2010 redistricting process in the four states, and drew new lines that helped the GOP win the bulk of the House delegation in each. Republicans captured 13 of 18 seats in Pennsylvania, 12 of 16 in Ohio, nine of 14 in Michigan, and five of eight in Wisconsin. Added together, that was 39 seats for the Republicans and 17 seats for the Democrats in the four proObama states.

The key to GOP congressional success was to cluster the Democratic vote into a handful of districts, while spreading out the Republican vote elsewhere. In Pennsylvania, for example, Republicans won nine of their 13 House seats with less than 60% of the vote, while Democrats carried three of their five with more than 75%.

One of the latter was the Philadelphiabased 2nd District, where 356,386 votes for Congress were tallied. Not only was it the highest number of ballots cast in any district in the state, but Democratic Rep. Chaka Fattah won 318,176 of the votes. It was the largest number received by any House candidate in the country in 2012, Democrat or Republican. If some of these Democratic votes had been unclustered and distributed to other districts nearby, the party might have won a couple more seats in the Philadelphia area alone.

Primobolan is one of those anabolic steroids which has a cult following not unlike the old original version of Masteron. Actually, as you can easily see from its anabolic:androgenic ratio below in the profile, its a pretty weak steroid but actually stronger(!) than Masteron in both regards. I dont know anyone who has run both compounds at the same dose. We are probably justified in speculating that youd probably get similar results from either of them, when you consider the fact that you are getting quite a bit less actual drug and more ester when you choose injectable Primobolan (which has the very long Enanthate ester attached to it) over Masteron (which has the very short propionate ester attached to it). In truth, I think part of the reason many Primobolan users have been disappointed is that they failed to use enough of it, for long enough. From its chemical structure and anabolic:androgenic rating, we can assume it is at least as effective as Masteron, on an equal Mg for mg basis. However, due to its ester (in the injectable version), it needs to be run for at least 12 weeks to see the full benefits from it. When you consider a measly dose of 400mgs of this stuff for 12 weeks will probably cost you around $500.

Its easy to see why many people have tried to use less…and have been disappointed with their results. On the other hand, many competitive bodybuilders consider Primobolan indespensible to their pre-contest drud routine, and wouldnt consider dieting without it. Anyway…I think the comparison to Masteron (another great precontest drug) is the best one we can make, with reference to expected gains and results.

Alphabolin 10ml 100mg/ml  Effects

Lets flesh out some of the various general effects of Primobolan, before we get into the differences between the oral and injectable versions… One study performed on sheep involved administering 100mgs of Methenolone, and electronically stimulating their lats (electronic stimulation was used because they kept falling off the chin-up bars). Anyway, when compared with the lat muscles of sheep who didnt receive Methenolone, the receiving group gained significantly more muscle mass as well as strength (1)(2). Its also has a relatively high affinity for binding to the AR, actually binding better than testosterone (3). This ability to strongly bind to the AR may be why Primobolan is such a good “fat burner.” Strong AR binding has been positively correlated with lypolysis (fat-burning) (8).

In addition, as this steroid can actually aid in reducing breast tumors, no ancillary products need be considered for use with Primobolan, and in fact, it may actually be a useful ancillary agent in its own right, similar to Masteron. Also, just like Masteron, Primobolan has no propensity to aromatize (convert to estrogen). Since it doesnt aromatize, alot of the side effects commonly associated with estrogen will not be of concern. This means water retention, acne, and gyno will be non-existent more or less. this lack of water retention combined with the slow and steady gains provided by Primo may help to explain why it has earned a reputation for creating quality muscle gains. This also helps to explain why it is so expensive. Although estrogenic sides are not a concern, hair loss still, remains a very real concern with Primobolan, as with many DHT-Derived steroids. Many primobolan fans always include Finasteride and Ketoconazole (shampoo) in cycles containing Primobolan.

Although nobody would ever suggest to use Primobolan as a bulking agent, its been studied as an agent to halt wasting and possibly reverse many of the adverse effects of anemia. It is a shocking failure in both areas, according to some of the case studies Ive read, (5)(6) and this should come to no surprise to anyone. Anadrol reigns supreme in this area, and nobody in the athletic community would ever compare those two drugs. However, Michael Mooney and many other respected doctors who work with AIDS patients have found sufficient evidence to claim that Primobolan is an immune enhancer and as such is very useful for AIDS patients (not that the FDA cares…Primobolan is still not approved for sale in the United States). AIDS patients arent really in need of Bulking Drugs, so an immune enhancer like Primo which will add small, quality gains in muscle is perfect for them. And since we arent even going to vaguely consider the use of Primobolan as a bulking agent, clearly this leaves us with considering it primarily for use in gaining and maintaining lean tissue. Its a great choice for this purpose, and many competitors have used it very successfully to retain muscle while on a calorie reduced diet. The reason Primo is so useful for this purpose is that one of its primary functions is to help your body retain nitrogen (7) at a greatly enhanced rate. The greater your nitrogen retention is, the more muscle you will build. In the case of using primo as a pre-contest drug, this nitrogen retention will help you retain muscle and ensure that your dieting preferentially favors fat loss over muscle loss.

Primobolan is a very unique steroid, as it is one of the few that comes in both an oral as well as an injectable version. I suppose Winstrol does also, but Primobolan actually has a different ester on the oral (acetate ) and injectable (Enanthate) versions. The oral version is one of the more interesting oral compounds Ive looked into. For starters, its one of the few compounds available to athletes and bodybuilders which is both oral as well as non-17-alpha-alkylation. This alteration is (as Im sure you remember from other stuff Ive written) what generally makes oral steroids survive their first pass through your liver, but also makes them Hepatoxic (Liver toxic). Well… oral Primo doesnt have this feature, so it is very mild on your liver (actually it basically isnt liver toxic at all), but also is largely destroyed by it, since 17 beta estrification and 1 alkylation is the method used to make this stuff orally available. Youll need to take a lot of this stuff for it to be effective… 100mgs/day of the oral version is a safe estimate for reasonable gains& for women, you could get away with less; perhaps 25mgs/day. Even though the acetate ester has a 2-3 day active life, your liver will do some damage to oral primo, so every day dosing will still be necessary.

Side effects:

Primobolan is widely held in high regard as one of the few anabolic steroids that is considered very ‘mild’ in the sense that it presents absolutely zero risk of any Estrogenic side effects at any dose as well as its very weak androgenic strength rating, which allows it to exhibit far less severity in terms of the potential of androgenic side effects than most other anabolic steroids. This is the reason as to why Primobolan is often pitted against and compared to its close brother, Anavar. Both are anabolic steroids that have been utilized medically in the treatment of women and children with very little risk of ill effects and both are considered very ‘mild’ in regards to potential side effects. This is, however, where the similarities between the two end, as Primobolan is an anabolic steroid that possesses not only a weak affinity for various side effects, but also a weak anabolic strength when compared to the majority of other anabolic steroids in existence (and in comparison to Anavar).

Estrogenic Side Effects

Primobolan is a DHT-derivative anabolic steroid, which means it does not exhibit any interaction with the aromatase enzyme at any dose, and therefore Primobolan side effects are completely void of any Estrogenic side effects. Estrogen-related side effects such as water retention, rising blood pressure (as a result of water retention) and gynecomastia are nonexistent from Primobolan alone.

Androgenic Side Effects

Although Primobolan possesses a very low androgenic strength rating in comparison to Testosterone, Primobolan might still exhibit androgenic side effects especially in individuals with a greater sensitivity to this category of Primobolan side effects. All anabolic steroids exhibit androgenic effects to varying degrees, and some less than others. Primobolan is one such anabolic steroid in which it tends to exhibit far less androgenic activity than other anabolic steroids, but the risk of androgenic side effects presenting themselves should never be completely ignored with Primobolan. Androgenic side effects include the following: increased sebum secretion (oily skin), increased bouts of acne (linked to increased sebum secretion), bodily and facial hair growth, and the increased risk of triggering Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) in individuals that possess the genetic trait required for the condition to manifest itself. Primobolan side effects in the realm of androgenic side effects also include virilization effects in female users. Virilization effects in females can include the development of male secondary sex characteristics (deepening of the voice, growth of body and facial hair), clitoral enlargement, and menstrual irregularities. Primobolan in particular should not aggravate these conditions if female doses are kept sensible and cycle lengths are kept short and moderate. One particular advantage to Primobolan (and all DHT-derivatives in particular) is the fact that Primobolan does not interact with the 5-Alpha Reductase enzyme (the enzyme responsible for the conversion of Testosterone to the much more androgenic Dihydrotestosterone), and so therefore there is no risk involved in Primobolan converting into any stronger androgens from such a process. It can be safe to assume then that the androgenic strength associated with Primobolan should remain constant and consistent throughout use.

HPTA and Endogenous Testosterone Production Side Effects

When utilized at doses necessary for the purpose of performance and physique enhancement, all anabolic steroids will cause either suppression or total shut down of the HPTA (Hypothalamic Pituitary Testicular Axis) and endogenous natural Testosterone production through the negative feedback loop. Primobolan side effects are no exception to this rule for all anabolic steroids. Primobolan in particular is always commonly touted as being an anabolic steroid that is ‘mild’ in its Testosterone suppression side effects. This is quite obviously a very false rumor that must be cleared up, as clinical data has demonstrated. Primobolan, when administered in medically prescribed doses (approximately 20 – 25mg per day) has shown to cause very minor suppression of the HPTA. However, this is not the case when bodybuilding doses and doses necessary for physique and performance enhancement are brought into consideration. For example, one study administered 30 – 45mg per day of oral Primobolan to test subjects in which over half of these subjects exhibited a 15 – 65% suppression of endogenous Testosterone production. The dose administered to these subjects is a dose that is actually considered still fairly low (30 – 45mg per day) for performance and physique enhancing purposes. Considering that bodybuilding and performance enhancing doses for Primobolan typically start in the 100mg range, Primobolan very well does exhibit some strong suppression of endogenous Testosterone production. Although the level of suppression resultant from Primobolan is lower than most anabolic steroids, it still presents itself as quite a suppressive compound, and many individuals must be aware of this.

It is very important that following any cycle, each individual engages in a proper and well-structured and planned Post Cycle Therapy (PCT) program, which includes the use of Testosterone-stimulating compounds (such as Nolvadex and/or HCG) for a 4-6 week period immediately after the end of any cycle in order to ensure full restoration of the body’s endogenous production of Testosterone and related hormones. Without a proper PCT program, the user risks damaging and/or shutting down their HPTA for the duration of life, at which point medical intervention will be necessary.

Hepatotoxic Side Effects

Injectable Primobolan (Methenolone Enanthate) as well as oral Primobolan (Methenolone Acetate) are both void of the typical C17-alpha alkylation common in nearly all oral anabolic steroids, and therefore Primobolan presents no measurable hepatotoxic effects on the body. Oral Primobolan has failed to demonstrate any changes in liver enzyme values that would be cause for concern. Primobolan in particular does possess in its own right a resistance to hepatic metabolism and breakdown, and only one incidence of a death resultant of hepatotoxicity and liver failure from oral Primobolan has been recorded in one male elderly individual who was prescribed the compound for the purpose of treating anemia[4]. Therefore, higher doses of oral Primobolan can indeed be utilized but it must be noted that oral Primobolan does still possess a measure of resistance to metabolism and breakdown in the liver, and therefore the risk of hepatotoxicity from Primobolan must not be completely ignored, especially as doses of the oral format are increased to higher and higher amounts.

The injectable Primobolan (Methenolone Enanthate) is void of any liver toxicity issues, as its route of administration bypasses the first pass through the liver.

Cardiovascular Side Effects

Primobolan side effects include that of cardiovascular strain and negative cholesterol changes, which is a side effect shared among all anabolic steroids. This involves the reduction of HDL (the good cholesterol) and increases of LDL (the bad cholesterol). The result of such changes is an increased risk of arteriosclerosis, and the degree to which these changes occur for the worse are usually dose-dependent (with higher doses increasing the negative changes and the risks). Other factors that affect these negative cholesterol changes are: duration of use, and route of administration. In terms of the route of administration, oral anabolic steroids are known as being the worst for their negative impacts on cholesterol in comparison to injectable anabolic steroids. This is where oral anabolic steroids hold a negative reputation for exhibiting a far worse negative impact on cholesterol in comparison to injectable anabolic steroids. This is due to the fact that the liver is essentially the body’s cholesterol processing and production center, and increased hepatotoxicity as a result of oral anabolic steroid use is associated with negative cholesterol changes.

Proper attention to a clean diet and the inclusion of various healthy cholesterol promoting foods (such as omega-3 fatty acids and fish oils (at least 2 – 4 grams per day) is essential while on a cycle of anabolic steroids.

 Ok can we talk about Coco for a moment?? I saw it days ago and...as i have mixed feelings towards it and mostly of them arent that good; before to start keep on mind: IM MEXICAN, IVE LIVED ON MEXICO MY WHOLE LIFE ‘TIL NOW AND TRUST ME I LOVE MY COUNTRY, so...yeah this goes more than whole representation...

For start i thought it was gonna be a mess because Dia de Muertos, topic...which ,even if is something we celebrate even at schools isnt even the fuckin half of our culture as country so see that its kinda tiring...but guess what that became a good point about the movie...its fuckin obvious n im amazed they made good research about our country n some little quirks towards it so I cant say that is bad I laughed on a couple of scenes (especially on the bands contests...IS THAT A MOTHERFUCKIN BRONCOS/LA BANDA EL RECODO’S REFERENCE??!! ) and also..I’m very grateful about the mexican dub, they got really fuckin good talented and well known celebrities so at least my ear it was so thankful to hear El Buki and Gael Garcia (and others)...and let them sing for the ost...the good animation (expected from pixar),the decent research and the AMAZING ost/dub are things are worth to mention

The movie really captures the mexicans family escence?? yes...but here is when the whole thing goes down.

Why?? Ok the plot is about a kid (Miguel) who wants to become a Mariachi but his family is agaisnt it, doesnt sound that bad??,right?? well the kid actually tries to do something and...his family breaks his beloved guitar; the way how his grandma (not confuse with his Mamà Coco aka the great grandmother and Im not enterin into details about her “arc” its emotive and i understand if someone here cried with that) thinks “is helpin him” and doesnt really listen him...n even his parents agree with it...its so harmful even abusive ; and how they force him to work at the familiar’s job...I know there’s a plot beside that fear for the musicians but anyway...

the whole movie is mostly around that mistery on his family...about Hector and Ernesto de la Cruz backstories...that I even felt that Miguel is just standin here ‘til a point he *gives up* when...suddenly before the movie ends his relatives change their mind (talkin about the final scene with Mamà Imelda)...which, I dunno sounds fake...or doesnt convice it; on that aspect the movie is weak even is the rest of the stuff is decent n...here comes the problem.

The whole “Your family is first” or “You have to be with your family doesnt matter what” might be very delicate topic about kids (even teens or adults) living on similar situation as Miguel...but unlike on the movie ,their family IS ABUSIVE because sadly irl there wont be plot twists or your family wont change doesnt matter how much you try. Of course...neither the movie should be NEGATIVE but...I dont feel genuine how everything got resolved and the message doesnt apply on everyone.

Even, yeah Its a fun watch for kids or people (spooky skeletons), I like that kids are seein animated movies again but...yeah I feel Coco more like: A Libro de la Vida but with an Oscar.
