Sometimes I cannot tell if you guys want villains who do not want to be redeemed or not bc we get gortash and everyone trips over themselves to make this version of him that is absolved from his actions and he’ s changed … Anyways another day another time Wyll gets put to the back burner with crumbs of content yet everyone huddles around like “ OMG THANK YOU LARIAN … oh yeah sorry about Wyll : ((( “
You guys get you are a part of the problem right . You are letting Larian know they can get away with being racist as long as they feed fandom and whatever . Instead of actual quality of life updates and patching in content that would Actually help the game run better and feel finished , they just bloat the game and let companions go untouched with minimal content while playing into whatever the loudest voices in fandom demand the most .
The studio account should not be interacting with fandom so often . This blur between creators and fans is bad ! This leads to fans blindly defending and protecting a Game Studio that they have no connection to because haha larian mad a funny reply . And this also causes a feeling of ownership that should not be there ! You do not own a piece of bg3 and you should not be dictating it ! This is different from criticism btw . Just so we are Clear . Larian deserves and needs criticism .
It is super telling that they voices they are choosing to listen to are not voices that actually care about the game at its story . If they were , we would not have Zero Story for the Son of the Duke of Baldur’ s Gate and yet we have so much for a character that isn’ t actually tied into any major story beat ! We have no more for the character directly tied to Gortash with a prototype of the Steel Watch in her chest , but we can take a side character a few people wanted to bang and speed to have him included ad a full companion ! Instead of Dark Urge getting more content with Orin , Savrok and anyone else that had a tie to Bhaal , they get their relationship with a guy unrelated to all that be made to be read more and more explicitly romantic when that is just ruining the character !
Wyll should have a proper sex scene . He should have a romanced greeting that changes after the proposal . He should have more personal story content . He should have scenes of him in Baldur’ s Gate . The Emperor reveal as Balduran should not have been the main focus of HIS FINAL STORY QUEST . He should have hug and kiss options in the epilogue . People should comment on the engagement ! He should have all of this !! AND MORE FRANKLY .
But because everyone is so quick to forgive Larian , they’ ll never feel pressured to add any of this . They’ ll never feel like they’ ll loose players if they don’ t . Because you guys don’ t actually care . No , I am not saying thank you to larian for not giving me anything I have been asking for and sending feedback on for months . I am not thanking larian for choosing to bend over backwards to random big name fandom people who are racist and just want to fuck the pale guys again and again .
Larian Studio is not your fucking friend, stop acting like they are .

I romance Minthara as Tav and in both occasions where my Tav: (1) refused illithid power and saved the city and (2) accepted illithid power and saved the city, Minthara does mourn the fact that Tav refused the power to literally become a god, but understands and quickly looks forward to future conquests. And not only that, she chooses to take Tav's name (huge deal for a matriarch society like drow, let alone the Baenre family name). Minthara is also willing to die along with Tav during the final battle!?!?!? She cares for Tav ok.
So it makes no sense for her to breakup with Durge on the spot for refusing to be a god's slave, when she doesn't break up w/ Tav for refusing to be a god altogether. And this is shown in the Elfsong Tavern ending and the epilogue. Being a god sounds wayyyy more powerful than a god's slave. Not to mention commanding an army of illithids and the power to create more fighters for yourself??? Did I also mention the ability to control dragons if you seize the brain? lol

And even if Durge didn't seize the Netherbrain, her attitude is more of "the past is in the past, I look forward to future conquests."
Given that Larian brought back the writers for the epilogue, they must have looked into the ending with redeemed Durge to write the epilogue, so tbh I'd go with that instead.
Also not to mention if Durge rejects Bhaal, Bhaal instakill Durge but Withers revives Durge, which frees Durge from Bhaal. I feel like that should be celebrated?
TLDR: It is in character for Minthara to be mad Durge gave up their power as a knee-jerk reaction for the first few mins (also Emma Gregory's performance is *chef kiss*), but it is ooc for Minthara to refuse to see the reason why and not give Durge a chance to explain.
Oh and this is if you ignore Minthara's entire character arc with Orin (Bhaal) and her relationship with Lolth and the Absolute. After Lolth and the Absolute, Minthara would never want to be under another god's control again (She explicitly states she prefers to die than be under the Absolute's control again if Tav kicks her out of the party). So if anything she would want to be "The Absolute" herself. The whole point of starting a new house is being free from constraints and obey no god.

Minthara in other words: it sucks you didn't seize the brain as an illithid, because the brain sex we could've had.
Minthara's disdain for the gods and the idea of serving/sacrificing for them is explicitly stated throughout the game. She craves power, but never at the expense of one's freedom/life.

Even with Vlaakith, the only reason Minthara doesn't wanna anger Vlaakith is because Vlaakith can and will floor your entire party instantly. Not because she wants to serve any fickle god. And let's not forget where Minthara wants to go spit on Lolth's statue in Baldur's Gate lower city.
TBH I don't think Larian would add a persuasion check simply because that requires new dialogue and voice lines, as datamine dialogue doesn't show any additional content besides this abrupt breakup. So Larian would need to bring writers and Emma back if they want to do this. Or the cheaper solution is remove it? Either way there's a mod for it already so hail modders XD
Anyway, I'm glad what I have for my Durge and Minthara deviates from the game almost entirely.

First time writing on my PC... formatting might be strange. I apologize now. I also can see my top followers? Shoutout to you guys. Not proofread... have a blast.
Ahead contains some content like smut and such.
Ketheric is an older man. We all know this. He doesn't have the stamina of a typical, younger man. That doesn't mean he doesn't try to keep up with you in both domestic activities and the bedroom. A lot of his time is taken up by governing Moonrise and overseeing his growing army. As well as assisting Orin and Gortash's plans for domination. His spare time is spent with you as much as he can! He'll make sure you get the finest food and treatment around Moonrise that he can assure. As far as the bedroom goes, he is similar to Oathbreaker in a sense. He doesn't typically tolerate disobedience or brats. He is too old and tired for that shit. He will come down with a harsh hand if you disrespect him in any sort. Now, he is older so it takes him a little longer to acquire an erection. He admires your form just like any other but he is seasoned. Ketheric doesn't get hard just from seeing someone nude. He needs a more seductive dance (whether that's you actually actively seducing him or engaging in some lengthy foreplay). Once both you and him are proper and ready for the more intimate acts he knows what he is doing. He treats you like fine porcelain (but he's not afraid to scratch it a bit) and focuses on your pleasure for the majority. Honestly, it can be hard wrangling him from between your thighs at this point. You'll have cum to his mouth and fingers a minimum of twice before he's even entering you. He has a blast with it, honestly. The next time you talk to him he makes relentless comments. About how you're attracted to a being of another realm. A man who has seen nearly anything and was the first to break his own oath. You're about a puddle before he shows any of his own interest. It's been awhile since he's had a toy... and a toy you are. He regards you as if you're a dirty being. You must repent to him for going against your oath- for finding him attractive. What would your god think? I am unsure if he has... parts. He will fuck you with his fingers and the hilt of his sword, though. He takes his time with it and eases you into everything. He is a consent king beyond it all. Constantly asking for reassurance in subtle ways. The sex is less about his pleasure rather than dominance. To see you fall apart and break under his touch is pleasure enough. Kudo's to you if you find a way to make him cum!

What are you doing?
Emperor’s voice rings in his ears - in his mind - slightly tinted with suspicion. Funny, for how much the mindflayer insists June can trust it, it doesn’t seem to trust June at all.
You said I need to gather my allies, he replies absentmindedly, hands working on taking this damn cork off and opening the bottle. Such a small thing it is, and how much it contains.
Enver was personally responsible for the creation of this new, nether-touched illithid parasite.
Enver and him; the details are hazy, but June can easily see himself fit into the narrative the lordling painted for him. He can see himself, on top of the world, with crown of Karsus in his hands, ready to conquer the entire Toriel for his father.
What a fool he was.
It’s changed now. He is a changed man.
“June?” Karlach looks uncertain and that hurts.
Hadn’t she learned by now to trust his judgment, had he not proved himself to be a good, loyal friend? The mere fact what she doubts him still is simply unacceptable.
She’ll see, June knows. Once he puts his plan in action, she will see the brilliance of it.
What use Enver’s death would be to her? It would not turn back the time, it would not give her back her heart or ten years of her life.
But this? This can turn the tide.
“It’s alright,” he smiles, but for some reason she doesn’t smile back. Damn it, did the smile come out wrong again? “Just hold him firm.”
She complies, but looks even more unsettled.
“This is...Not what I’ve expected,” Karlach admits. “You...What are you going to do with this thing?”
June smiles; this time the smile comes out right.
“I am going to fix it.”
Enver lets out a deep, throaty chuckle.
“And there I was, concerned they’ve somehow ruined you,” for a man beaten bloody and pressed down the cold tile floor he looks surprisingly content. “Worried Orin damaged your brain too much and somehow turned you into...” he trails off. “But I was a fool to fear that. No, you’re just as you’ve always been.” Another annoyingly long pause and then- “You’re going to tadpole me.”
“Yes,” June smiles.
Of course Enver of all people would understand.
He pulls the specimen out of its glass cage and holds between his fingers. Gently, ever so gently.
Enver’s eyes trail the movement.
“We worked so hard on these curious little things; you’ve worked so hard on them. It would be a shame for you to not test out your own creation, would it not?”
“June,” Wyll calls out and June doesn’t need to turn around to know his friend looks downright horrified.
Why can’t they see?
This is the right thing to do. Death is too simple, too easy. This? This will give Enver a chance to atone for his crimes. No, it will downright force him to cooperate.
And cooperation is exactly what June needs.
He is in your head, comes out an echo of a conversation long passed. Gortash, Gortash, Gortash – this damned lordling is all you can speak of these days! I doubt father approves of that, brother dear.
But June doesn’t care if father approves anymore. June doesn’t do his father’s bidding.
He is a free man, a free and a good man. And if he can change like that, who knows how Enver could?
“This is a chance,” he thinks and realizes he’s spoken aloud. “To work together. To fix the mess we’ve started. To make things right.”
“This is wrong,” Wyll argues. “You know this is wrong, June-“
“Juniper,” Enver speaks. There’s a strange glint in his eyes and it takes June some time to decipher it. There’s dread, of course, but also...Satisfaction? Like this is expected outcome. Like this aligns with Enver Gortash’s image of the world.
June frowns.
“You look entirely too pleased, my dear,” he comments lightly, crouching down to Enver’s level. The parasite dangles from his fingers, sharp jaws opening and closing in a rather rhythmical manner. As if it senses the prey nearby.
Enver manages a weak shrug, still pressed firmly down; Karlach looks distressed but her hold does not waver.
“No sense to panic over something I can’t change, is there?” True, but that does not explain the smugness. “And it’s a relief.”
“A relief?” June slowly reaches out, hand getting closer and closer to Enver’s face. Did he caress this face before? Were they that close?
The deep, annoying longing inside insists they were.
Close. Closer than Bhaal would permit, perhaps. Was he the reason for June’s little rebellion?
If so, it’s only right to repay for that.
“This thing with Selûne,” Enver frowns. “It was entirely...anticlimactic. I am glad you’re as ruthless as I recall you to be.”
June frowns right back.
“You’re delusional,” he replies. “I was ruthless once, but no more. This is mercy. I am sparing you, sparing your life. Enver, I am your savior.”
That makes the lordling look even more smug.
“Of course you are,” he smiles as if he knows something June does not. Annoying. “Now, shouldn’t you cut this ‘will he, won’t he’ business and finally-“
His voice cuts short as June drops the parasite on his face, as close to the eyes as he manages.
The creature crawls up and immediately buries itself into the depths of Enver’s skull. Clever little thing.
June watches, fascinated, as the man struggles while parasite takes a hold on him.
Then he raises an artifact.
Emperor? He calls out. Will you do the honors?
Of course.
A wave of pcionic power washes over them and Enver’s mind clears. He blinks; once, twice, brushes the uncalled tears away. Then looks up, straight at June.
“Not too bad,” comments plainly, asshole. Like June didn’t just turn his life upside down. “I assume you’ll force me to comply with your clever plans now?”
“Of course,” June thought it was rather obvious. “Now we’re going to save the day like the true heroes we are,” he smiles. “We don’t need any gods for that, we don’t need any cults. Bhaal and Bane can fight over the rubbish all they want, but we know better. We are going to have Baldur’s Gate eating from our palms. But first,” he feels his smile turn slightly malicious. “We’ll visit an old acquaintance. Halsik has everything prepared and stands at the ready.”
At that Enver perks up.
“You’re dragging me to Hell,” he comments rather cheerfully. “Again. If I didn’t know better, I’d think a trip to Hell is your idea of a date.”
June snorts, and Karlach snorts, and even Astarion, who was mostly silent through the entire encounter, snorts, though his snort is more unkind than the others'.
“No, silly,” June drags his hands up Enver’s torso until they lay placidly on his chest. Warm, he notices absentmindedly. Warm and familiar. Selûne’s Grace, am I in love with this man?
That would be...unfortunate, all things considered. But not entirely unexpected.
“We are going to break into the House of Hope,” he feels Enver stil underneath the touch. “I assume you’re more than familiar with the place, are you not?”
The lordling wets his lips, then grasps June and uses him as a leverage to stand up. Karlach almost doesn’t let him, but June waves her off and she, rather begrudgingly, lets go of the man.
There’s still a sense of unease about her, unease and...A hint of distrust? Of him, of June?  But he is fixing things, surely she knows that!
“And what exactly are you planning to get there?”
Enver is close, gods, he is so close and his breath is warm on June’s forehead and it’s hard to think- Fuck, they definitely were lovers and June is definitely not over it. Astarion is going to kill him. Or worse, going to be hurt by him, by that. Stop, stop, stop, he needs to stop-
Two things happen at once.
Enver’s hand finds its place on June’s waist and takes a sure, firm hold of it.
Astarion’s mind, gentle in a way a mind of a man intimately familiar with all the ways personal boundaries can be broken, making damn sure he is not breaking and entering into the depths of June’s mind unwelcome, brushes past him.
June lets him in.
Stop fucking fidgeting, his glorious lover complains immediately. You’re giving the bastard a leverage over yourself.
I’m sorry, June immediately blurts and does it with such a force he is sure both Karlach and Wyll heard him. He avoids thinking of Gortash being linked to them the same way now. I’m sorry, I didn’t know, or maybe I did, but didn’t want to acknowledge it, but he’s here and he is so close and I- I am sorry, I am so, so-
Do you take me for an idiot? Comes out a huff and how did Astarion manage to huff through a mental link? You might have emotional intelligence of a redcap, but I’ve been aware you two knew each other on a level what’s far beyond any niceties the moment Gortash stopped his own coronation to gape at you.
He didn’t gape at me, June argues, thought he isn’t so sure now. Was Enver gaping at him? He sure looked friendly, much friendlier than Ketheric and Orin combined. But gaping?
He stopped his coronation, Astarion repeats. To come down from his high horse and chat with you. To welcome you back. He took control over one of his steelwatchers simply to invite you to the damn thing. And you- now there’s an actual, visible huff coming from his lover.
June catches Enver watching Astarion closely; a loose, entirely self-satisfied smile on his lips, hand still on June’s waist, head leaning on his. Enver invades June’s personal space like it’s his life goal, like instilling his presence in June’s life is something he has at his top priority.
This is...flattering.
“No, the fuck, it isn’t,” Karlach says aloud, and it’s a cue for June to realize he might have been thinking too loudly. “This is disgusting is what it is, I can’t believe you would-“
“My sweet June has his strong suits and his weak ones,” Astarion speaks, giving Gortash the smile so sharp it should’ve splinted the man in half. “His awful taste in men is, admittedly, one of the later. Not me, of course,” he chuckles, but June hears the underlying self-degrading tone noneless. They should’ve made Cazador Szarr suffer more. “But other,”  vampire spawn gestures at Gortash. “Lesser men.”
“Lesser, you say?” And of fucking course Enver would take the bait. “I would-“
“Enough,” Wyll all but barks and for once they all comply. “We have bigger things to worry about but you two fighting over June’s affections,” June catches Karlach make a gagging face at that and Enver sending her a rude gesture in response.
Children, he is surrounded by literal children. Worst of all, these children are the ones saving the world with him. Ridiculous.
“Right, right,” he sends a grateful smile Wyll’s way and is relieved to see the man smile back just as warmly. At least someone is in his corner. Someone other than Astarion, but that’s given; June and Astarion are bound for life now, for as long as both of them live.
Admittedly, said life might include Astarion murdering June’s former, current – who could tell? – tyrannical lover in a cold blood. Or hot blood. In a pool of blood, definitely.
June isn’t even sure he would be very angry about it, mostly just...sad? He does seem to care for the said tyrant a lot. Oh, bother.
“We are going to break into the House of Hope,” he reminds these literal children who now are making faces at each other. If anything, seeing Karlach and Enver flip each other off would work for an evening entertainment. June will have to work on this destrusting undertone of her; talk her through it, explain things.
Karlach is a good person, she will understand. June is sure of it.
They’re doing this for the greater good.
“For what?” Enver cuts the chase off. “I assume not to make a deal with Raphael, he usually comes to his victims himself.”
“No,” June agrees. “Not for that, though he tried to strike a deal. He needs the Crown of Karsus, you see? And has something we need. But luckily, Raphael was kind enough to let us know he has it.”
“And why would we strike a deal with him,” Astarion hums. “When we can simply take what we need?”
“Exactly.”
Enver smiles.
“You are planning to steal from him.”
“No,” June leans into him almost involuntarily. He smells...good. He smells familiar. He smells like home. “We are going to steal from him. You,” a sharp nail hits Enver in the chest. The hand is immediately grabbed and held firm. “Are going with us. Care for some heist, my dear lord? Not Mephopheles’ vault, I’m afraid, but just enough for an evening entertainment.”
Enver smiles, wide and sharp and entirely wicked. An evil smile, people would call it. How he managed to convince people of the Baldurs Gate he is not villainous villain is beyond June’s comprehension. By brainwashing them, most likely.
“When let’s rob the devil,” the lordling speaks.
Then he kisses June.
And June can finally breathe.

would you recommend pursuing a minthara romance with her current state?
and follow-up questions—can a resisting durge still work with minthara? will she hate us? do you have to go all or nothing?
Despite every Minthara fan's protestations she is literally the most stable and accessible ever right now.
Her romance dialogue works, as little as it is (you "only" need external tools to access one set of dialogue, whereas before it was two or more, but even then it wasn't a big deal). Her kisses from patch 6 are 🔥🔥FIRE🔥🔥 and have a chance to trigger an easter egg dialogue where you feel strange after one of your kisses. Pretty sure that's unique to her, so that's cool.
Knocking her out in a "side with the Grove" run is as simple as using non-lethal damage on the last blow. She has banter with and comments on every other companion (except Halsin; they used to be mutually exclusive so they'll just ignore each other. Honestly preferable to them remaining exclusive)
As usual the most reliable way to recruit her is still to side with the goblins which is not everyone's cup of tea. If you can though, it is EASILY the best experience; her act 1 romance is incredible and ties in beautifully with her recruitment in act 2 (hint: enter her mind rather than fighting the guards first)
It's also recommended cause she still doesn't have an act 3 romance scene. The quest to retrieve Orin's Netherstone effectively becomes her companion quest, which is okay. Romancing her without her act 1 scene is still totally possible, get ready to say and do some questionable things (not too bad tho: my Tav is Oath of Devotion and I have 89 approval in act 3 without breaking my oath)
Resisting Durge CAN still romance Minthara, they have an epilogue scene together and everything. Telling her you intend to resist will earn you a warning that she'll end the relationship, but nothing happens if you do. The only thing that will end your relationship is cheating on her. On the upside, that means lots of reactions to everything you can do by end game.
Hotfix 21 added dialogue where she claims to break up with Redeemed Durge after rejecting Bhaal, then hotfix 22 removed it (it didn't actually end the relationship so Larian only knows why) Minthara fans have STRONG opinions one way or the other as to whether this addition/removal was good or bad (my opinion is that no reaction is less satisfying than SOME reaction, but especially with Larian's announcement that they will end creating new content for bg3 soon, we can't realistically expect anything more here either way)
Bottom line: you can romance her in any playthrough, you just need the approval. She has by far the least romance content out of all the companions except maybe Halsin, but if you enjoy her dialogue and like to headcanon-fill in the blanks you will still have a good time (I certainly have!)
Every Origin character has special lines and epilogues with her too. Fan favorites seem to be Karlach and Gale (don't know anything about the others personally)

The Council was a group of old men who should have probably died or retired ages ago and they still believed their opinions mattered to generations much younger than them. I sat at the front of the long, rectangular room next to the seat of my father. There were nine council members, five on one side, four on the other, all regarding each other like they were better than all the others. I wondered if any of them even considered anyone else in this room their friend, or if they were all in this just to barter their way of life into this town.
I was equal parts frustrated by their traditional methodology and scared at the power they still held over a society that had evolved since their time. They were capable of so much simply because they had climbed up the ranks until there was nowhere else to go. 
My father had been summoning me to each Council meeting for the past week and I found myself bored to tears each time. I contributed very little to their conversations, and I already knew that I was doomed to disappoint all of them again today.
Most of the items of business were small, inconsequential things like adding more roads, where to expand for more homes as more people come to our town. With each one we offered our vote, when there really wasn’t much to vote on. I found my fingers itching to be playing with something other than the fringe on the hem of my sleeve. 
I couldn’t deny that my father - despicable as he is - was a committed leader. His attention was fully invested in each person’s comments, and he weighed all of the options equally. 
My father was an intelligent man, and a deep thinker and I think that’s why it hurt me so much every time that he didn’t seem to have the heart to make sense of me. I wasn’t worth his time mulling over and understanding - to him I was simply broken and in need of his repair.
Time moved slowly, but I did my best to keep my mind on the present conversation. I was surprised that my father didn’t ask more of me since he insisted that I be there, but I was also grateful to not be put at the center of attention in front of these old men. 
After a long laundry list of things, my father cleared his throat and shifted in his seat, “Council Orin, I seem to recall you mentioned to me an issue you were having in the Northern district?” 
I watched closely as the man named Orin nodded sagely towards the Duke. “Ah yes, thank you, Your Grace. Gentlemen, I’d like to discuss the matter of a newcomer that’s been in town. A well respected innkeeper came to me with some concern that an orc has been staying in his inn for the past nine days now. He doesn’t appear to be here for any particular reason besides to loiter in our streets. We’ve been good enough to attract very little of the other folk in Faerun, and I wonder if there is something to be done with this newcomer?”
I gripped the armchair of my seat as I was forced to listen to these men discuss their distaste for orcs. With one mention of Drun’s race, they suddenly all felt it was their right and permission to exclaim their opinion - all of the despicable and completely wrong. They were talking about Drunrag, my Drun. They called him unclean, and one of the cursed races because they had sided centuries ago with the enemy. A long dead enemy that Drun had nothing to do with. They were formulating plans to get him out of town. I had to say something, but I couldn’t, not when I looked over and saw the way my father was watching me with such a smug look.
He shifted in his seat again and cleared his throat, the room fell into expectant silence. 
My Father spoke, “Altan, son, what do you say is the best course of action? Perhaps your youth can help us see a different light?”
I refused to look back at him. He was mocking me. I knew he was cornering me to fold and not say anything. I knew if I said what I felt, it would fall on deaf and racist ears. Instead I sat straight and held my fingers tight like claws on the armchair. “Perhaps it would be wise to avoid making a rash decision until we learn why he’s here.”
“The innkeeper says the orc won’t speak when he talks to him. Says he’s practically mute.” Councilman Orin responded.
Another Councilman jumped in, “I thought I saw him working with that Dragonborn Doxxah in the Northern District, perhaps they’re plotting something.”
I couldn’t believe them. Doxxah had been here for years and had proven themselves again and again to be an honest, hardworking contributor to the town. I opened my mouth to speak, but was interrupted by another round of the men exclaiming their dislike of Dragonborns, of Orc of all the races they felt uncomfortable around.
“It’s not as if we don’t want them in our town.” One of them said, “But it must be understood that our town was built centuries ago as a fortress to protect our ancestors from the dangers that these very same races brought outside our day every day. Do we ignore our past and history just to embrace these newcomers into our town?”
“I don’t see any reason why we should be the same as our ancestors from hundreds of years ago.” I replied. They all looked at me with furrowed brows. “Perhaps Berdusk is more than about keeping tradition, but about making traditions that provide comfort and safety for all folks who pass through. Neither Doxxah or this orc you speak of has caused any true offense that warrants this amount of distrust towards them. Perhaps change is not so bad for a town and we simply need more time.”
My father tapped his finger on his armrest, “So you would erase our history from us?”
I shook my head, “That’s not what I'm suggesting at all. I see it as an expansion of what we could offer.”
“But we can’t please everyone, young lord.” One man said, “We are not as impressive of a town as those larger, more advanced cities like Waterdeep, or Baldur’s Gate. We cannot easily accommodate them and our people would not be comfortable to change for them. Wouldn’t it be safer for them to not be here?”
“So you’re saying we force this gentleman to vacate our town?”
“I wouldn’t go so far as to call him a gentlemen, young lord. He’s an orc, he’s from the wild plains in the South. They’re undignified and so uncouth there.” 
My voice was shaking as I spoke. “I don’t see any sound reason to kick him out.”
“It’s for the safety of the town. You must remember that the North District is where families live. An orc living there is…well…it’s preposterous and it cannot stand.”
Tradition. Family. Protecting what’s always been. These were the grumblings that this town rested everything on. It was a narrative that had pervaded and infected the way the Council viewed anything. They had used the same disgusting rant on my mother when she had tried to change things here to help her children and other people's children. Remembering her then made my blood turn hot and I couldn’t listen to any of that bullshit anymore. I sprung to my feet, my chair making a loud clatter as it fell back. The room fell silent.
“You are the ones who are preposterous. Look at you! You all live in denial that times have changed since you were young. Times have changed since our ancestors. Time changes people, it changes us. We have a chance to be more than just Berdusk, a town where all Men live and thrive. Why must it just be humans? Because you’re more comfortable looking at someone who looks and thinks exactly like you! It's easier, isn't it? It’s too uncomfortable to have to consider that other races could be better at your job than you! It's too uncomfortable to have to recognize that maybe your traditions are worse than outright violence. You don’t like that the world is changing to make you less important and you would drive out every last race that isn’t human if you had the chance, wouldn’t you? Including me.” 
The silence in the room was deafening and none of the Councilmen would meet my eyes as I let them have a taste of what I thought of each of them.
I turned to look at my father, who was looking at me with a smug look. 
“I’m dismissing myself from this meeting.” I said, before stepping down and racing out of the room. 
I caught the eye of Commander Gideon who was standing outside the door into the room. He didn’t move, but I caught something in his eyes that I hadn’t noticed before. I didn’t bother dwelling on it as I continued my march out of the room, out of the building and down the steps towards the town below me. 
The guards weren’t prepared as I barreled passed them and down the street. They tried to follow me, but I shook them off quickly as I wound through the crowds and into another crowded street. My head was pounding, my heart was racing and I only had one place I wanted to be. 
I burst into Doxxah’s bakery, out of breath and heaving. “Where is he?” I asked.
Doxxah broke into a grin and pointed behind them. “In the back, young lord.” 
I didn’t wait for permission to walk around the counter. I wove my way through the various obstacles until I found my way into the back where the room was so much more warm with all of the ovens burning. There was Drun, covered in flour and sweat. He hadn’t seen me and was bent over a tray of rolls, sprinkling a dusting of cinnamon over the top of them. He was biting his bottom lip and was deep in concentration.
All of the tension inside of me loosened at being able to see him. He was adorable in that moment, and I would have loved to take in the image of him like this, but I needed him. I cleared my throat and waited for him to look at me. 
His eyes, his beautiful stormy grey eyes found mine and he raised to his full height. 
“What’s wrong?” He asked. He looked behind me with a worried expression. He seemed afraid to approach me.
“I just needed to see you.” I said. “I’m…” I felt hot tears as I looked at him. Why couldn’t they see him the way I saw him? He was gentle, he was beautiful, he carried himself so carefully and thoughtfully. How could someone look at him - sprinkling cinnamon on a roll with such care for gods’ sake- and tell me he was of a lesser race? There was nothing about Drunrag that I didn't find lovely and safe and good. I closed the distance and barreled into him, wrapping my arms around him with my head buried in his chest. “Please, let’s go.”
“Where?” He asked.
“Anywhere,” I said, my voice was muffled in his chest and I felt like some pathetic child. 
I felt Drun’s hands settle around me. Holding me around my shoulders and pulling me closer to him. His body was so warm.
“Will we be safe?” he asked.
I didn’t answer. I didn’t want to answer.
“Altan.” he said and he pulled me back so he could look at me, he took my hand and placed it on his chest. Oh all of the nine hells consume me, my name on his lips was sin. Gods I needed him.  “Do you feel it?” he asked, using the same words I had said to him.
And I felt it, the quick beating of his heart. It was strong and steady and purposeful. I pressed my hands there, feeling comfort in its power.
“Do you understand?” He asked.
I nodded.
“Do you trust us?” He asked.
“I trust us.” I said. “But my father will never allow me to be with you. We’ll never be safe.” I looked up at him, “The city intends to kick you out, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they plan to do worse. If I can’t go with you, then promise me you’ll go and be safe.”
He shook his head, “Not without you.”
“Then let’s go.” I said. “I’ll leave it all behind, right now.”
I heard Doxxah’s throat clear behind me and I whirled around to see Commander Gideon standing next to them. 
“Your grace.” He said, his voice was gentle. “Your father asked that I get you…he wanted me to inform you that you should say your goodbyes now.”
It was a threat. Say goodbye to your lover and come back repentant or face the punishment. My body tensed and I resisted moving. 
“It’s alright, Altan.” Drun said softly, his hand was on my arm, and he gently coaxed me to return my attention to him. 
I nodded, my face wet with tears. “Drun…I love you.”
He nodded, his hand tightened around me. “And I you.” He leaned forward and his forehead was pressed to mine. “I’m yours, djenifad. Don’t give up on me.” 
He pushed me gently towards the door and I resisted every time. I saw the pain reflected in his eyes as I was being pulled away again from him. “Drun, Drunrag. I love you. I love you...” I could only say it again and again as Commander Gideon took my arm and gently began to pull me away. Drun was standing there, watching me and I saw a faint glint of wet light in his eyes. 
Commander Gideon was gentle as he pulled me discreetly into the carriage that was waiting outside the bakery’s steps. Of course there were still many eyes on us as I pulled myself in. 
“Commander,” I managed to say, struggling to stay composed. “What does my father intend to do to him?”
He remained calm, and he was gentle in his answer, “The Duke did not make any mention of the young orc, only to return you home.”
Somehow, that left me more scared, but I could do nothing else but nod and utter my gratitude to him. He was being surprisingly gentle and kind about all of this. 
Doxxah stood at the door, but not before approaching me and placing in my hands a small box. “He made this one, he added so much cinnamon I couldn’t sell them. I think they’re for you.” 
I laughed before immediately coughing and choking on my tears. My Drun, he remembered I loved cinnamon. I couldn’t speak. I was so overwhelmed with emotion. Doxxah closed the door and backed away, waving gently at me. They didn’t say anything, but I saw an ally in them. They would take care of Drun while I couldn’t be by his side.
The ride was silent, uncomfortable and the Commander was once again patient and gentle as he told me that I was to be escorted to the Duke’s chambers to meet with him. In all of this, I could sense a reluctance in the Commander’s actions. I’m sure he felt a bit like a babysitter and could easily resent me for making his job such a headache, but he continued to remain neutral and impassive. 
My father’s chambers was a room I only saw when I was in trouble and I only ever associated it with bad memories. I never remembered seeing it until I started to disobey my father’s rules and resist his instructions for me, and then I would be taken there to be given a stern talking to. When stern talkings to didn’t work for him, it turned into ridicule, chastisement and sometimes physical punishment. I hated that room.
The room was all dark wood panels, red velvet curtains that kept the room dark and moody. He had little furniture in there, just a round room that was dark and shadowy. When the Commander let me walk in, he waited outside and I stepped in alone.
“You made quite the impression in the Council meeting today.” The Duke said. He was sitting at a chair, a scroll in his hand that he was reading.
My jaw was tight as I took in the sight. “You can do anything you want to me, but you can’t hurt him, do you understand?”
“By our laws, we have no grounds to do anything to him yet.” My father said coolly, not looking up from his readings. “But if I hear or see that he has touched you in any way…I can promise you that I will remove him from your life in one fell swoop and ruin any chance of you seeing him again. I have him right where I want him to keep an eye on him. And you, my son, will be kept under a more severe supervision. So I know where you will be at all times. Be careful of your actions.” 
“Why is it so important to you to control me?” I asked, fighting back the emotion in my voice. I had to stay in control. “There is no love lost between us. Why must we suffer ourselves through this? I’ll never be the person you want me to be. Just let me go, let me be happy with him. I’ll never speak your name again. I’ll change my name if I must. But we don’t have to keep doing this anymore.”
“You ungrateful, insolent boy.” My father seethed, “You have been given everything since the day you were born and I have been the one to give it to you. I could have taken you from your mother as soon as I saw how she was turning your mind against me. But I let her keep you. You were always hers and I was gracious enough to let it be that way. But she is gone and you are mine now, and I will see you thanking me for the mercy I continue to show you.”
“I’m not grateful.” I spat, “How can I be grateful when you intentionally keep me from being who I am? Just…please…let us go.”
He sighed, feigning exhaustion. “I know the moment I set either of you free, you’ll be crawling right back to each other. I see it in both your eyes, you're sick for each other.” 
“I’m not sick, I’ve never been sick. This is my choice.” I pleaded back, “Your Grace…Father. I love him, he means more to me than my own life.”
His eyes became wild at those words, “You would bring yourself this low to get the attention you so crave? If you desire to be nothing more than a whore, then I will find you someone better than this. You depraved child.” He rose to his feet. “I do not see how you became so wrong as you grew, but this would disappoint even your mother to see you as wanton as you are for that beast. You will not see him again, and if either of you seek each other out, it will cost him his freedom.”
I flinched, the words bit into me and I felt tears form once again on the surface of my eyelids, but I did not blink, nor back down, “So what will you have of me, now that I am your depraved, sick, deranged prisoner?” I asked “Should I worship you? Kiss your feet for your bounteous generosity for saving me from my own choices? Or would you prefer your prisoners to stay silent, meek and submissive?”
“You will be grateful and you will follow my instructions with obedience. Do you understand?” His eyes were cold and heartless as he regarded me. “Your life will be easier once you start to see what I’m doing for you and you’ll thank me someday.”
I could not bring myself to beg anymore. I saw the finality of his words in his eyes. He intended to break me, and I was afraid there was no hope to be free this time.

I've dug around Act 3 enough times that I think I'm prepared to put in my wishlist for whenever ultimate edition releases. Understand these are all elements that may be present in mild degrees in Act 3 as it currently exists, but I need it expanded on drastically.
-More breakup reactivity in Act 3. I understand keeping it a bit on the minimal side in the early acts since you can flag those on accident/it can be pretty casual in nature. But by Act 3, you've locked in to a committed relationship. That's the kind of thing thats going to impact your dynamic severely if you end things. Having Gale sniffle a little and then immediately jump to Besties dialogue was WILD.
-I get the impulse to keep the team together in Act 3 because by that point there's a lot of story content you could potentially miss out on but I really do wish they'd been a little bolder in what choices let you drive companions away. Karlach, Laezel, Astarion and Wyll especially all have things they REALLY should ditch the player for, or at least require persuasion to stick around (allying with Gortash for Karlach, taking the astral touched tadpole/sleeping with the Emperor for Laezel, fighting Cazador without him for Astarion and hooking up with Mizora for Wyll). The hirelings system ensures the player won't be left mechanically shorthanded, and all of these are choices the player has to know would alienate their companions.
-A GODDAMN TAVERN SCENE. AN INN ROOM SCENE. SOMETHING. Let me party with these people!!! The tiefling party is so goddamn good I need more moments like that in the story!!!
-More content for allying with Gortash/Orin. I'd even accept this as a Durge exclusive, for right now allying with either of them just sort of feels meaningless. Gortash gets a good cutscene or two but it doesn't really feel like a partnership so much as him sitting there waiting for you to do what you were gonna do anyways. A reality where Orin or Gortash offer meaningful aid and interaction with you to help you take down the other would've been so interesting, especially for a Durge, because it can be another avenue through which to understand your dynamic with Bhaal's cult if Orin thinks you're arriving penitent and ready to submit to her authority
-Much as it is a fun surprise to run into the tieflings throughout the city I'd love a quest where if you find Alfira she'll invite a bunch of them over to the Elfsong for a "made it to the city" celebration. Again we really needed more moments of just. Being. in this act.
-Everyone and their mother has said this but Gortash's coronation needed so much more hype and build up around it. Why is the coronation of an Archduke being treated with all the import of just. Electing a new Senator. Why is Gortash just interrupting the proceedings to explain the Evil Plan to you while all the patriars wait in polite silence. Why is the only real pushback on entry you get just a lone Steel Watcher going hey. Dont kill anything >: (. Also considering the implications is that Gortash murdered literally all these people shortly after. Why were there zero consequences to this and zero comment for anyone in the outside world.

Tw: animal cruelty, animal deaths mention
Can we talk about how Larian put so much unnecessary animal cruelty in bg3? Like Yenna and Grub only exist to serve as a backup option for the Orin abduction, which involves Orin killing Grub and trick your character into eating his meat! 🤢 I was utterly disgusted when I encountered it and almost quit playing until I found a way to avoid this outcome in my first playthrough (I used no romance limit mod and romanced all of the possible companions that could be abducted therefore I needed to breakup with one of them and leave them in camp), it’s really triggering for me because I also have a cat and we live in a place where animal cruelty is not illegal and companion animals are not protected by law from being served as food, there are countless pet and stray cats and dogs got stolen and later found slaughtered in meat factories and made into off-brand sausages and meatballs, not to mention there are many torture rings that target cats in here and they’re openly taunting and threatening people who oppose them to kill more cats because they know they can get away with it, it’s every cat parent’s worst nightmare. We already get that Orin is this sadistic evil shapeshifter who tortured and killed people for fun, is it really necessary to show us that she’s indiscriminate to children and animal too for shock value??
And for Durge, Larian and the writer they hired from a fan discord server for writing ast*r**n fanfics really put extra effort into making more animal cruelty scenes into the storyline which I have to look into guides before I play durge’s origin to avoid them(a squirrel, a bird, a cat could fall into durge’s victim), making durge unnecessarily edgier when there’s tons of other stuff already shows his gory urges, while durge’s main story in act 3 has so much plot potential yet still feels underwhelming, underwritten and lacks companion reactions other than ast*r**n’s. Really shows their priority, huh? Isn’t these animal cruelty content avoidable? Sure, but you need the knowledge of how to avoid them first, the dialogue option that leads to killing Steelclaw the cat is something like “trying to remember why you know this cat” which is just like the one that leads to durge cut off Gale’s hand, these options doesn’t explicitly say you are going to choose violence, it’s very misleading almost tempt you to choose them. There should be explicit indications of these outcomes in the dialogue options. And that squirrel encounter, durge just automatically kills them if you don’t have speak with animals on. Players that go into the game blind are going to have these triggering content shoved into their faces. But I guess Larian just doesn’t care.

Like first of all, the 1986 movie (and its actors) are SO iconic, it’s hard to imagine the characters any other way. Like I’ve never watched any of Chris Evan’s movies, but Steve Martin’s performance was genius i can’t see him beating that. And Elle Green is, like, THE Audrey.
That being said,
I really really wish this movie had been made.
…If only to create more dentist x reader content.

The point. I want this man, and I am STARVED. I need the internet to feed me. Give me horribly out of character Fanfiction where the reader feeds him soup. Give me dentist appointments that violate the health code(and probably human rights, too).

Hi! It's been a few days since I've found your blog but I wanted to thank you for your headcannons, writing and your mods (your blog in general has been a treasure trove for Durge, Orin and Gortash content)
Based on some of your Orin and Durge fraternal twins post, do you have any headcannons or thoughts on Durge not as a direct creation of Bhaals made from his own flesh but rather a Bhaalspawn more akin to Orin with their own family?
Awww thanks, Anon! I just like having somewhere to put all my thoughts and I’m glad that others can get enjoyment out of it too. ❤️
I like your question! I don’t have any pre-existing thoughts on a non-Bhaal-flesh Durge because I typically try to operate within the parameters of the game (I like restrictions and find that they can really prompt creativity) but if we suspend those parameters for a moment, here are some thoughts.
I think what is most important narratively is that if you make Durge not of Bhaal’s own flesh, you need to replace that with something. Either some outside force that otherwise marks them as “special” or some extraordinary quality they possess - something that makes sense for them to have been given The Urge.
Some possibilities:
Their parents were the most dedicated Bhaalists ever (could be cool if the two dead bodies you find in the temple from the wedding were Durge’s parents.)
Their parents were notably extreme anti-Bhaalists (similar to Shadowheart’s origin.) This is fun because you could really play with deities here and makes for a nice set up of a Durge growing up under a different religion. Some people do this with Durge anyway because of the adopted family and I love to see that. I also love the idea of having to hide this terrible thing within them from their family.
They were caught in a bhaalist ritual as a baby. Meant as a sacrifice, but then “possessed” by Bhaal himself and marked as His Chosen ever since.
They were extremely, extremely devout. A “regular” Bhaalspawn who just reached heights of worship that were unseen (which is a HIGH bar to surpass - and I don’t have the answer to what that would have to be, but I know someone could come up with it.)
And for my last idea - they murdered the original Durge before The Urge manifested. The Urge then transferred to them when it was meant to manifest in OG Durge.
What I like about all these possibilities is, like the original concept, they all allow for Durge to either accept The Urge or to undergo redemption and/or rejection of The Urge.
One thing that I really like to see for Durges who undergo redemption - and I think would carry over into these concepts - give them somewhere in their life they learned kindness. Even if it was small in comparison to whatever darkness they went through.

Blood in the Water

Gortash warned the group of Orin's plan- that there would be an imposter among the group, that one of their own would be captured and replaced. No one expected that it would be their leader, the one who got them this far

All it was meant to be was a search and rescue in the Sewers for Jaheira’s friend Minsc. Not an additional search and rescue for Nolee.
She had accompanied them until they confronted Minsc, who at the time was under the Absolute’s influence. The battle made the group lose track of her, for by the time it was over, she was gone. Karlach had to communicate with the Emperor to have his protection be extended to the hero, and only then did the group realise their companion was gone.
“Soldier?” Karlach’s voice echoed throughout the sewer. “Come on out, wherever you are! We won’t bite. We promise!”
“Is it usual for your friend to disappear during battle?” Minsc asked. “Not very virtuous if you ask Minsc.”
“She’d never,” Halsin protested. “The only time I recall her parting from the group was for her daily prayers.”
“And the last thing one would worry about in battle is a prayer,” Jaheira added. “I haven’t known her for long, but that woman fights until she can’t fight anymore.”
“In that case, it would be wise that we find your friend soon,” Minsc concluded.
The group continued wandering through the muck and grime, bearing through the stench of waste. Having a more sensitive sense of smell, the stench was much harsher on Halsin, but he had endured worse smells, and was willing to bear with it and more if it meant finding his beloved safe.
Halsin was worried he might have had something to do with Nolee suddenly vanishing. She seemed to be distracted all the time, talking to herself, almost as if she was having some form of conversation with herself. She also seemed more… disengaged with him.
He thought about that night he spent with her. How he longed to feel her, for them to share their bodies with each other. The night was nothing but pure bliss. At least, that was what he believed. Did she regret it?
He’d never forgive himself if she did.
The sound of fast paced footsteps echoing alerted the group. A nearby door, bursted open and Nolee stumbled out of it, falling to her knees. She was out of breath, panting, and she was covered in blood and much. Halsin would’ve been relieved to have found her, if it wasn’t for the panicked look on her face.
“Thank the Gods I found before she did!” She got back up on her feet and ran to the group, almost falling into Halsin’s arms. “You need to go. It’s not safe here! Go!”
“Easy now, love,” Halsin picked up Nolee and straightened her up. He bent down so that he could look her in the eye, hands on her arms to hold her steady. “Just tell us what happened. Why were you here alone in the sewers?”
“There were assassins,” Nolee said in between breaths. “They grabbed me, and brought me Orin. Said she was looking to make a sacrifice to Bhaal. Wanted someone whose blood was sweet. I managed to break free before she could slice my stomach open.”
A sudden sound echoed behind them. Nolee gasped as she looked back, before looking at Halsin.
“If she catches all of us here, none of us will survive.” She backs away from the group. “I will buy you as much time as possible, but you cannot stay here.”
Halsin grabbed his staff, moving ahead of Nolee and positioning himself in a battle stance. “We can fight her together, love. You don’t have to face her alone.”
“You’ll die if you try. Just run!”
“And miss out on virtuous buttkicking?” Minsc said in an almost excited voice, before a squeak interrupted him, coming from Minsc’s furry companion. He bent down to the rodent to listen. “Boo? Could it really be?” His eyes widened, and he grabbed his sword. “This woman is an imposter!”
Nolee’s face warped from fear into a smile. Not the sweet and gentle smile she normally had, but a much sinister one. “Oh, how embarrassing to be sniffed out by a rat!” Her voice sounded deranged. It made Halsin feel uneasy. “Not as embarrassing as your friend being so easy to pick off.”
Suddenly, Nolee’s head turned, a sickening crack echoing throughout the room. Halsin could only stare in horror as her limbs began to turn and bend in unnatural ways. Her head turned back further away than it should without breaking, but her body began to dissolve as she turned it back, revealing a completely different person.
Orin. Bhaal’s Chosen.
Sadistic and cold her face was, as she walked over to Halsin with slow steps. “Look at it, crawling and sniffing and rooting around in the dirt.” Orin’s face pouted condescendingly. “Is it my Netherstone you seek, little piggies?” She looked at the group, each one with a horrified expression on their face.
Halsin felt something drop into his stomach. Gortash warned them that Orin was planning to pose as an imposter. That one of their own would fall victim. He never thought that Nolee would have been the one to fall victim. A foolish thought, he now admitted.
“Hush hush. Orin will take care of you.” Her face cracked into a sinister smile. “And your little pet.”
Halsin’s grip on his staff tightened, ready to attack. “What have you done with Nolee?”
Orin gasped. “Nothing! No, not a thing” She let out a laugh. “Still gasping and gagging on the foul air of Bhaal’s temple.”
Everyone else also readied themselves to attack, but it seemed all hopeless. They could not take on Orin. Not while Nolee’s life was in danger.
Orin's dead eyes widened. “I will not slice yet, but I shan’t keep the Murder Lord waiting. He demands an offering. Something new, sticky sweet and delicious. He wants her."
This time it was Karlach that spoke, the flames inside her beginning to roar as she stepped forward. "You bitch! Why her?!”
“Kethric Thorm’s Killer. Turned the corpse-lover into carrion when she took his stone." Orin looked reminiscent. "But he was a dull kill. No blood to spill, no guts to rip." She made a quick gesture with her hand, as if ripping out a pile of guts from a body. "A desiccated husk, all dull and hollow. She will make a much finer offering, wouldn't you agree?"
Red. Hot red.
It was all Halsin could see. The thought this wretched woman put Nolee in danger. Ready to be sacrificed to some unholy God. His teeth gritted, his quick breaths coming out in hisses. He tried to resist. He couldn’t afford to lose himself now.
“Poor thing is praying to her Goddess that you won’t come and rescue her. She’d rather die than have you risk your life for hers?” Orin giggled, gleefully sadistic. “Oh, what a sweet sacrifice she shall be!”
The beast began to awake, and Halsin couldn’t resist it anymore.
"You will not have her!"
His entire body glowed as he felt the urge take over, the line between man and beast all but blurred. He welcomed the new shape, as he swiftly transformed into the familiar bear shape. But it did nothing to quell the rage inside him. He roared, readying himself to lunge at Orin but was immediately stopped by a commanding voice.
“Calm yourself, Halsin!” Jaheira commanded. “Now is not the time to attack. She already has the monk captured. If we attack now, she may be in even more danger.”
"You're friend is right," Orin smirked. "And to think I was going to sharpen you before you set the edge against my skin."
Halsin let out another growl, resisting the urge to ignore Jaheira and attack her then and there. But he relented. With a deep breath he unsheathed his bear form, back into elf form.
"If you have something to say, then say it," Karlach demanded. “Or I swear I will fucking gut you!”
"You'd prefer my whispers in the tyrant's tongue?"
Orin twisted her head once again, resulting in a crack. Her current form dissolved and revealed the form of Lord Gortash.
"You're heard Gortash's whispers. He whinges and wails over the Crown of Karsus, wanting to command it without me. Oh, how I long to slit his proxy smile from ear to ear. But I can’t touch him. He bound my blade when we first conspired. Gortash didn’t want me at first. Didn’t trust me. Got me to wag my tongue, swear an oath never to hang him from the hooks, drip drain him into Father’s open jaws…”
Had it not been for the violent tendencies that still oozed out of Orin, she would have passed almost perfectly as the Lord Gortash himself.
“You must kill the tyrant. Take the Netherstone from his corpse, and bring it to my temple.”
With the crack of her neck, Orin changed back into her original form, a devious smile on her face. “There we slice and shred each other. The survivor claims the stones. What’s left of the other is Bhaal’s. Agree, and I will bring my Assassin’s to heel. They watch you always, longing to spray the crimson from your veins.” Her face then twists into anger. “Refuse me, and you’ll learn what happens to those who defy Bhaal’s doctrine. Including your beloved.”
It was clear what Orin was demanding. A battle to the death. Should Halsin agree, and go after Gortash and bring it to Orin, she would spare Nolee, but have complete control over the Netherstones. Should he refuse, Orin’s assassins will be on them lack a pack of wolves closing in on a herd of sheep. And worse, his love’s fate may be sealed.
“If I agree, do you promise you won’t hurt her,” Halsin asked warily.
“Oh, I will,” Orin affirmed. “I keep my promises.”
An almost ironic statement.
Halsin did not have much of a choice in the matter. But he figured if he agreed now, he and the rest of the group would think of a way to rescue Nolee while they still had time.
Halsin nodded. “Gortash’s head in exchange for Nolee’s life.”
Orin giggled with glee. “Oh yes, kill the Banite, and the blade remains untouched.”
It wasn’t a decision but Halsin felt there was no other choice. Until he can find a way, have Nolee safe in his arms, he had to at least live with the knowledge that she will not be harmed.
“Do not underestimate his Steel Watch,” Orin warned. “Seek their cradle in the Lower City and skewer their skull meat. Make them rust and blood. Then you can gore the lordling again and again and again.” she spoke in between maniacal laughter. “But listen closely. Step in my domain while the tyrant still sucks air, and I will carve your failure into your pretty plaything’s skull.”
She took out her red blade and stabbed the air as if stabbing someone’s skull. To think that if Halsin failed this would be Nolee’s fate… he’d rather not think about it.
“Bring his stone, and I will set the bait free. Only then, she and I can make exquisite butchery.” Orin’s voice was laced with bliss. “The victor will set the world to slaughter. That is Bhaal’s offer. He will not make another.”
And with that, Bhaal’s Chosen vanished into thin air, particles falling from where she stood.
Halsin turned back to the group, feeling almost defeated. “We need to get back to the tavern. A plan must be made.”

More Dark Urge questions by @daemon-in-my-head ! Previously - set 1 (post also links to previous question sets), sets 2-3.
Here, we have set 4, set 5, set 6, and set 7, because I procrastinated on these for so long that every time I got near the end, another post would appear!!
Content warning for all canon-typical Durge stuff, plus incestuous sexual harassment and mention of pregnancy in set 4, question 6.
Set 4
1. The song that describes you Durge best from your own perspective?
I Want To Live is more Astarion-coded than anything else, but honestly, it works great for a resist!Durge too (and it's a duet, and he's romancing Astarion so it can work for both of them simultaneously!) "There's more to do if we can only live"…
2. OK and now the song that your Durge would actually sing along to because they like it?
Probably something upbeat and bouncy? Pre-tadpole, it'd be the kind of… 'extreme violence set to cheerful/energetic music' vibe. Post-tadpole, it's a lot more genuine and optimistic, haha.
3. What was your Durge's dream before everything happened? What did they want to become? Did they want to stay with their family or did they strive to go adventuring?
Tavias is a people pleaser, deeply insecure, and needs to be needed and wanted, and Father Comes Before All, so his dream was honestly 'do whatever Bhaal wants of me'. It was the impetus for him originally pushing away his fairly justifiable horror at the Temple and cult, knowing that if he did well enough, maybe his true father would return and like him, and it continued to motivate him up until Orin's attack. His dream would have been to carry out Bhaal's plan of omnicide, although he did have a secret quiet desire that Gortash would be by his side the whole time, and that Gortash would be the very last life he took before his own.
If we're talking before he killed his foster parents, honestly, his main desire was to find somewhere where he belonged.
4. Did your Durge ever fulfill that dream or did the temple and cult get in the way? Did they simply discard it? Why?
I mean. In a way XD He assumed he had fulfilled his dream by finding the Temple, his ~true~ family. He actually does end up finding a place where he belongs post-tadpole, though - with Astarion, with Halsin, with Jaheira. With people who love him for himself, not his heritage ;_;
5. What does Durge think of family? Describe it with one word.
Messy.
6. Sarevok, what was his relationship with your Durge like? Did they like each other? Was it complicated?
They goddamn loathed each other. From Sarevok's perspective, when Tavias first comes to the Temple in 1472, there are only a few remaining Bhaalspawn - himself and Orin, Abdel, who famously disavowed Bhaal, and Veikang, who's been keeping quiet for all these years. Sarevok sees himself as the head of the Cult of Bhaal, and Orin as his heir (having already pit her against Helena two years earlier, and Orin being the survivor). Now there's this child, an outsider who knows nothing of the cult's ways, who's being positioned as the new leader - and worse, he's far more 'pure' than even Sarevok is, than even Orin, his bespoke Bhaalspawn grand/daughter, is. It was instant resentment.
On Tavias' part, he initially did want Sarevok to like him. Sarevok was kin. His older half-brother. He had always wanted older siblings, and now here was one who knew all about the strange place he had found himself in, only for Sarevok to dislike him? Very crushing. His disgust and dislike started growing as Sarevok made no secret (behind closed doors, of course, had to present themselves as a happy family to the cult!) of his own dislike, and definitely amped up as he learned about Orin's parentage - and Sarevok's plans to create an even more pure Bhaalspawn. Tavias was, at least, treated as a boy from the moment he arrived, but Sarevok was well aware that Tavias had the right anatomy to get pregnant, and pretty much… would try to convince him that the two of them would create the Ultimate Bhaalspawn.
Tavias was 16-17 at this point, more or less leading the cult on a daily basis after his successful murder spree, and, uh, had got very well-accustomed to using violence to solve all his problems. He told Sarevok that if he ever laid a hand on him (or the then-14-15-year-old Orin), Tavias would get revenge so violent and gory that even Bhaal would go, "Hmm, that may be a bit much", and more or less banished Sarevok just to running the Tribunal instead of the entire cult. By 1492, he thinks Sarevok is both washed-up and a disgusting old pervert who would be better off dead, and frankly, he's all too happy to kill his big brother when he finally returns.
7. Does your Durge know of Sarevok's past? What do they think about it?
He learns the 'official' version pretty early on, and all the messy details a few years in. It doesn't do much to improve his view on him, just reinforces the fact that he failed. In 1482, after Abdel and Veikang die and Bhaal returns, Tavias uses the fact that Sarevok's death wasn't required as evidence that his earlier resurrection around the time of the Crisis removed any essence of Bhaal from him; he was no longer relevant. It was just Tavias, and, less importantly, Orin (being only part Bhaalspawn), who would represent Bhaal in the future. Tavias was pureblooded, Tavias was the Slayer, Tavias had the Urge, Tavias was Chosen. Sarevok? He was yesterday's news.
8. Education in the Temple, what did it look like? Did they enjoy it?
Yeah, more or less! He had essentially four streams of education - a general education that any kid in Baldur's Gate would get, because Bhaal's heir would not be an uneducated hick. He was given Bhaal-specific education, about the history of the cult, of Bhaal, of the earlier crisis, and of other things relating to the gods. Technically, should Tavias had wished, he could have 100% qualified as a Cleric of Bhaal instead of a sorcerer. As it was, though, he was a sorcerer, and so learning to use his arcane abilities was the third stream; finally, he (and everyone else in the Temple) was given combat training, with a special focus on assassination and, uh, vivisection. He enjoyed it for the most part, although he's still not a fan of literature studies.
9. Did your Durge ever attend a gathering of High Society with Gortash? Did they fit in, did they charm their way into the upper echelon's heart or were they despised?
Oh yes, and he loved it. Tavias knew how to turn up the charm, even if he came across as… kind of disconcerting; on the other hand, the upper echelon was fairly used to 'disconcerting'. Lots of dirty secrets going around! But yes, he did take a lot of enjoyment in dressing up as the most beautiful person in the room and charming the pants off everyone. And if the occasional back-room murder happened, even better! :D
10. Ketheric Thorm's dream, reviving the dead. What did Durge think of it? Did they consider it a sacrilege as Ketheric wanted to reverse the death Durge so loved to sow, or could they understand the desire of wanting to reclaim a loved one?
He could vaguely understand it in abstract terms, but did not relate. By the time he met Ketheric, he had well and truly pushed aside any sentimentality, had been drinking the Bhaalist Kool-Aid for nearly two decades, and there was no one he thought would be better off alive than dead. His goal at this point was to murder the world, after all, and he genuinely believed the world would be better that way. The timeline is a little unclear on whether Isobel was resurrected before Tavias was attacked or not, but he definitely knew that the desire to bring her back was why Ketheric had turned to Myrkul, and also thought it was a stupid idea and a sign that Ketheric was a weak link in their plans.
Set 5
1. The Gate has more than just one cult dedicated to an evil aligned Deity. What does your Durge think about the Sharran Outpost establishing itself within their turf? Were there any sort of run-ins that escalated?
Honestly he just kind of takes it as a given that there are other cults and the like around the city, and the Sharrans aren't too close to the Temple. He doesn't like Sharrans - removing someone's memories when they could, say, be twisted and put towards murder instead seems like such a waste! - but he tolerates their presence (and, of course, they'll stay out of the Undercity if they know what's good for them :) ). For run-ins, I feel they would probably try to stay out of each other's ways, for the most part.
2. How did your Durge feel seeing the bodies of their brethren being ogled by the general populous in the Hall of Wonders? Disgust, pride, nothing?
A bit of disgust, if only because they're not being presented right, dammit. Museums set up a narrative with their exhibitions, whether intentionally or otherwise. Oh, some definitely try to be impartial, but every museum is going to go, okay, what story are we telling here? And they tell a story of Bhaalists as losers, Bhaalists as failures, Bhaalists as irrelevant, and - no. Bhaalists are very much on the rise again, thank you very much, and those bodies and relics should be displayed with care and pride, not as, "Look at this sad figure!"
3. Nine Fingers has dedicated herself to keeping peace between the warring underworld factions no matter the cost. What price did the Bhaalists require under Durge's leadership?
More or less the same as the Sharrans - try to stay out of each other's way. The Cult are more powerful and are backed by an actual deity (well, quasi-deity), but the Guild are far more numerous, and have their fingers - pun unintended - in far more pies. In a one-on-one conflict, a Bhaalist would win, but en masse, the Guild and their allies could probably do a fair bit of damage to the Temple. So they try and keep things… more or less chill. There's probably a bit of collaboration - if a Bhaalist needs some pressure put on someone in a more 'diplomatic' way than Bhaal would approve of, or if a Guild member needs someone disposed of but without the Guild itself being implicated, they could scratch each other's backs.
4. Speaking of Nine Fingers, what was your Durge's relationship with her like? Was it amicable or did they regularly come for each other's throat?
Yeah, amicable. Keene is a bit older than Tavias, and was a little surprised when he started openly leading the Cult when he was only in his teens, but hell, she was already doing Crimes at his age. So long as he's competent, no issue there.
5. The Zhent may follow Bane, but what did the Bhaalist leader think of them and their operations?
Useful at times. Pretty widespread, good contacts for smuggling in particular. He would let them use cult safehouses as drop spaces at times in exchange for a cut.
6. Mercenaries are a valued resource even for death cults and almost any significant operation in Faerûn. Did Durge ever hire any, and if so, what for?
Oh yeah, and similar to the kind of collaborations done with the Guild or Zhentarim. Sometimes, they'd identify a promising new member, send them on a test mission, and if they passed, they received an offer to join the cult. ('No' was not actually accepted. You become a cult member, or you become a murder victim.)
7. Did Durge have a last name? Why or why not and if they had any, where did they get it from? Was it self made or inherited?
Nope. In his childhood, he'd just use whatever his current foster family used, and after going to the Temple, it kind of… wasn't necessary. "Tavias who?" "…Tavias the HEIR OF MURDER??"
8. Does your Durge have a symbol of their own? What is it?
Ooh man haven't thought about it before but the Bhaal skull with added in dragon horns would be cool as hell.
9. Did your Durge have any familiars? Why or why not, and if yes, what were they?
Not unless Sceleritas counts!
10. Does a portrait of your Durge exist somewhere in Faerûn? How did it come to be?
Oh yes. Sarevok most likely had at least a few commissioned of the kids as they were growing up, and Tavias himself definitely had one commissioned in full regalia after Bhaal's return and being officially named Chosen.
Set 6
1. Durge flayed themselves at least once, why?
Sex, probably. Maybe as a pentinence thing? I feel he was quite willing to try Abdirak's methods because he was used to pain for pentinence and it just sort of… resonated. Alternatively, another way of communing with Bhaal? Taking himself to the brink of death or something.
2. What did they think when they wrote the Prayer down? Why was it so important for them to have a physical copy of it?
Kind of… a desperate attempt to get all his thoughts about Gortash out of his head, he'll do what he's told, he's a good boy, he really is. (It was a massive bit of downplay, saying he 'admired' Gortash. Tavias was in love with him, and if Gortash had asked if they could scrap their plans and leave their masters and make their own story, he would have been tempted.) He never ended up 'officially'. Uh. Submitting it? Praying it? Whatever, he wrote it down intended for Bhaal but had second thoughts and hid it in his room. It shows up in the colony solely because Orin found it there post-stabbing and brought it to Moonrise to taunt Gortash with, and left it in that room in the colony out of a moment of carelessness.
Gortash never ended up seeing it before Tavias found it again, recognised his own handwriting, and promptly had a panic attack at the implications.
3. Balthazar is an infamous necromancer and has extended his 'life' far beyond what should've been. What did Durge think of him?
The man has a sense of style, no doubt there, but Tavias doesn't like him at all personally. Necromancy certainly has its uses, but when it's used to prevent or even reverse death? Yeah that shit's not okay with Bhaal. He also got the impression that Balthazar personally thought little of him, and given how patronising Balth is about Tavias in his notes about Kressa's preoccupation with Tavias, he entirely correct.
4. The Warden hates Durge. Why? What did they do?
Swanned in like he owned the place. Mentioned offhandedly that if she wanted a professional to take care of the prisoners, he would be willing to give her a few pointers. Stared a little too intently at her.
5. The Worgs in Gortash's warehouse, what's the story behind them?
Just security, I think! I don't think Tavias was super involved in all of Gortash's plans, so he may not have even realised they were there.
6. Minsc is quite infamous, did Durge have a hand in the disappearance of his statue? Was it originally their plan or did Orin do something successfully by herself for once? How would your past life Durge react to it?
It was his idea, yeah. Minsc was a known enemy to Bhaalspawn, and he wanted to make sure he could get control of at least one possible obstacle by tadpoling him. If he had been able to find Jaheira, he would have done the same to her. Of course, Jaheira ends up adopting him and Minsc ends up his uncle, so… works out in the end!
7. If your pre-lobotomy Durge could say anything to your post-lobotomy Durge, what would it be?
I think he would be incredulous, but there's enough of the previously sweet kid there that there may also be a bit of envy. He'd openly be angry that post-lobotomy Tavias is rejecting his heritage and his gifts, but there'd be this underlay of, "Why can you do it, and I can't? Do I have to lose myself to be free?"
8. What was Durge's greatest nightmare?
Being cast aside by Bhaal, being told he was irrelevant and useless and unwanted.
9. What do they think of other deities? Especially those of their race or good aligned ones?
Ooh, answered this in an earlier post, will copypaste! "He thinks very little of Bane and Myrkul, considering them the weaker parts of the Dead Three. He has some passing interest in Mystra, although that becomes disgust and loathing after he befriends Gale, is a bit frightened of Lathander, doesn’t have a lot of consideration for Shar other than, “Well, she exists”, although he also ends up pretty disgusted by her after everything with Shadowheart, and is pretty sure Selûne would hate him on instinct but has no negative feelings towards her in return, and is really quite gratified when he’s able to help Aylin." Pre-lobotomy, it's pretty universally a combination of (somewhat performative) disgust and dismissal, and a bit of wariness / fear of those specifically opposed to Bhaal, especially Lathander, Tyr, and Helm.
10. Drizzt is quite famous in Faerûn. Did your Durge have an opinion on the man who betrayed his origins and rose to become a hero?
Drizzt is… a story figure, mostly. Like he knows he exists, but eh, so do a lot of people. Post-lobotomy, I think he'd be a bit more fascinated by him, I can just see him and Astarion starting a mini-bookclub, haha.
11. What would past Durge think of their new companions? Would they like, love, dislike or despise them?
Ooh, don't think he'd like them much XD;; He'd have some passing admiration for Lae'zel's willingness to FIGHT EVERYTHING, but Shadowheart is Suspicious(tm) as a cleric of a different god, Wyll and Karlach both seem too nice and good, and ditto Halsin but with added wariness, since Halsin is an Archdruid and over three hundred years older than him and not to be messed with (whereas he's pretty sure he'd be able to take Wyll and Karlach). He'd be more interested in Gale as a fellow Chosen, but see him more as a cautionary tale on why not to displease your deity or you'll be personally fucked over. I think he'd still find Astarion attractive, but more in a, "I think it would be hot to fuck someone who looks and feels like a corpse" kind of way XD;;
12. What does their handwriting look like?
Generally neat if he's taking time and effort, but when he's stressed, he writes too quickly and often blends letters together. It looks like that on the Prayer.
13. If they could have one modern thing in Faerûn, somehow through magical means or something, what would it be? Luxury toilet paper, a smartphone (no, charger or internet is not included), a history book for research perhaps?
Anxiolytic medication. :)
14. Shoes on or off in the temple? After all it is their home, so what’s their rule? Did they enforce it on others too?
Generally 'on' is advisable for most, given that it's… kind of gory underfoot. Heh. He does occasionally slip off his boots just to, er, enjoy the experience!
15. If they could rewind time to any moment of their choosing once, would they do it? And which moment would it be?
Ooh man rewinding is always a bitch. I feel he'd want to redo his first meeting with Bhaal and compose himself a bit better instead of getting a bit panicky and overwhelmed XD;; Post-lobotomy, obviously, he'd go back and make sure he never killed his foster parents…
Set 7
1. What is the worth of a single mortal life from the perspective of their former self?
"Only the value which snuffing it out gives to Father."
2. How does Durge actually view death? Is it a mercy, a gift, or perhaps just nature's course?
Bhaal's mandate. Something that people should embrace and welcome (be grateful when he murders you, dangit!), because the world is a shitshow and it'd be better off if everyone was dead, him included. Probably… probably fair to say that his views on death are a bit warped XD;;
3. What languages does Durge speak?
Mostly just the Baldurian dialect of Common, little bits of ritualistic Infernal, and a bit of Draconic. He can read and write in Espruar, although his pronunciation of Elvish is woeful (post-adventure, Astarion and Halsin help him out with it, and much to his delight, Halsin is also teaching him Wild Elvish).
4. How old are they when the game begins? Did their age affect them or how they view the other Chosen in any way?
31, although he looks more like early 20s due to his half-elven background. He's definitely the youngest of the Chosen - while Gortash is a reasonable 10-15 years older than him, he sees Ketheric as well and truly over the hill and an old relic who's no longer relevant.
5. What was their greatest display of self-control?
All the times over the last twenty years he hasn't killed Sarevok.
Seriously, if Bhaal had ever given him permission, Sarevok would have been a smear on the ground.
6. Did they ever lose control and what happened when they did?
Aside from one very specific time where he lost control and it ended up with him being eleven years old, holding a kitchen knife, and covered in his foster family's blood? XD;; Oooh yeah, several times. It usually ended with, well, a lot of smears on the ground. He more or less tried to 'ride the wave' and let Bhaal take the wheel, although he didn't absolutely love losing control. It was mostly a begrudging acceptance of, "Well, might as well happen."

8. If they could critique one thing about their father and get away scot-free, what would it be?
He has a few things to say about the downstairs anatomy he had been born with!! Also tbh he isn't entirely sure everything has to end in blood and murder. Like. Like can he maybe keep enough of a supply chain going for cinnamon rolls? Can he just kill, like, 99% of the world? Can he keep Enver alive?
9. Did Durge use utensils to eat or did they decide to embrace the old fashioned way Bhaal intended?
He has perfectly good manners when necessary! As a general rule, he only prefers being covered in the blood and viscera of his enemies, not, like, grease and crumbs from his dinner, y'know?
10. Speaking off, what's their diet like? Do they actually exclusively do the cannibalism bit or can they be convinced to eat normal food?
lmao definitely not exclusively cannibalism. He generally does eat like a normal person! Just that you have to ask pretty delicately just what meat is being served XD;; Has a definite sweet tooth. His favourite drink is Amnian dessert wine, his favourite foods are cinnamon rolls, and he loves fresh fruit, especially grapes. If you're having dessert with him, you're probably good to go!

I agree with your post about the bg3 villains they’re so compelling! Genuine question: do you think the lack on monologuing and stuff for both Gortash and Orin is due to the amount of cut content that happened in act 3 development? Their boss battles are okay at best, and clearly there’s not really a “big defeatist” moment where the gods get involved like Ketheric’s battle, it just kinda happens during Gortash’s fight, and Orin has a very brief moment where Bhaal talks to her if you manage to pass the dice roll but aside from that… idk I just wished we didn’t have so much cut content in act 3 would’ve been cool to see what their fights COULD’VE been like ya know? I remember being genuinely like “oh shit” when the apostle of Myrkl appeared, would’ve been cool to have similar moments for the other chosen too
Act 3 has so much stuff going on, I really wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the more “boss fight” esc content got cut. Between Raphael, The Iron Throne, the whole Steel Watch, hunting an assassin, and all of the companion quests finishing up. There is a lot of content that needed to get pushed into a single act.
As much as I enjoy the amount of stuff in the city, and how a lot of the quests all lead into the main quest to really show how deep-rooted Orin and Gortash have their cults in the city - I feel like if they distract from some stuff.
I do know when I first beat Orin and Gortash I felt - very underwhelmed in compared to Ketheric. Like to where I feel like he should’ve been the last of the three. I mean to go from the second stage of Ketheric’s fight to; slightly bigger Gortash and freaky lizard thing Orin. But also act 3 has to wrap up everything so I really understand why the rest of the Dead Three fights are a little underwhelming.
Ketheric’s fight is the first major fight of act 1 & 2. Like sure there is the Goblin Camp, and Nere, but those aren’t meant to be real intense boss fights to me. For Larian to use him as the bridge between the stakes of Acts 1 & 2 to Act 3 makes sense. Especially with a fight like that.
I really don’t fault the game for this though. It still is a fulfilling experience to play; even if the Gortash and Orin fights don’t have the same flair behind them as Ketheric.

Oh, gods, here we go again.
Walked over to talk to the blacksmith and the conversation got real weird, real fast:

"Welcome, adventurer! I take it you're new to Rivington. No doubt you came here to choose from my fine selection of weapons? Yes, I seem to have it all. Clubs, swords, maces, bows. Cutting and gutting galore. Why don't we see if we can find the perfect weapon for you?"

Hector considers explaining the fists thing again, but then just shrugs agreeably. "How will you know my perfect weapon?" he asks.

"I provide a personalized service for my customers, to make sure the weapon I choose is the perfect fit," the blacksmith says cheerfully. "Tell me..." His jovial tone never wavers. "How do you like to kill?"
Hector stiffens at once, almost offended by the question. He has never liked to kill; it's a miserable business and if he never had to do it again he would be perfectly content. "I don't see what this has to do with me buying a weapon from you," he says coolly.
"Oh, it's all part of the service," the smith answers brightly. "Everybody answers." He leans forward with sudden intensity. "Go on. Tell me how you kill."

Hector's jaw sets with irritation at this casual tone for such a subject. "Quickly and efficiently," he says, eyes narrowing. "I don't want anyone to suffer."
The smith gives him a slow, broad smile. "Come... we're all friends here," he says. There's a distinct edge to the cheerful voice now. "No need to pretend you don't like to twist the knife." He leans closer, his voice lowering. "And when you kill someone... what do you feel?"
Hector feels a sudden chill, a prickling up the back of his neck. A suspicion... [CLERIC OF SELUNE] "Reflective," he says, the words sticking in his throat. "To kill is a profound act, one that should not be taken lightly."

The smith nods with a wide smile. "Killing holds no fear for you, does it? You understand what it takes, and what it gives."
He steps closer still, his face almost nose to nose with Hector. "One more question, if you'll humor me..." he says, and his voice drops to a cold whisper. "Do you think you could turn your weapon on those closest to you?"

The chill turns to a sudden feeling of profound dread. Hector is no fool; it's obvious now what's going on here, and yet he feels frozen, unable to move, to break from the conversation, barely even to answer.
"I would *never* kill someone I cared about," he snaps, forcing the words out like the crack of a whip.

The smith laughs, and there's no humor in it now. "You'll do so much worse," he whispers, "by the time I'm done with you."
The transformation is quicker this time, a twisting snap of undulating bones.

"Still rolling in the muck, I see," Orin croons with that maniacal grin that is becoming all too familiar. "Gortash knows you are coming. Knows you have the Bone Lord's stone. Do not let him hiss hot air into your worm-weakened brain."
She steps forward, rests a hand lightly against Hector's chest. He feels a death chill in her palm, but he can't move. It's a sort of bewildered, fascinated terror - the fear of her, yes, but also of everything she represents, the mystery and the danger. He is less afraid of her being in front of him than he is of what she will do when he cannot see her.

"He'll find your weaknesses," Orin goes on. "Stick a knife in the cracks and prise you apart. Unless you get him first." She smirks. "Remember - his throat spits lies, but my blade carves the truth. You will read it on your skin soon enough."
She vanishes, abruptly, twisting a ring on her finger and disappearing in a burst of red light. Hector finds himself suddenly able to move again, to breathe, though his heart is still thundering.
"She's toying with me," he gasps out, angry and humiliated and very afraid. "What does she want?"
If his companions have anything to suggest, they don't have a chance to voice it before they're interrupted - by the smith again, the real one this time.

"You!" he bellows. "Try attacking me when my back isn't turned, you bloody coward!"

...Great. That's a whole other terrible layer to this. Not only is Orin toying with them, not only could she take the place of any of them... but she can pretend to be them to others, get them in trouble, ruin their reputation...
This is too much, Hector thinks faintly. It's too godsdamned much...
"I didn't attack you," he says firmly. "I've been out here the whole time."
"Don't dare lie to me. I saw you with my own eyes, grinning at me like some bloody imbecile. I'm going to knock that smirk right off your face!" the smith snaps.
Hector fully believes he could take this man on if the situation required it - but he doesn't want to. The last thing he wants to do is cement the image Orin is apparently trying to sow of him being a deranged, violent criminal. Instead, he considers for a moment, and then points out, [MEDICINE] "Hallucinations. Irrational anger. These are symptoms of a serious head injury."
It's not exactly a lie, and he isn't entirely sure if he expects the point to work. But the man blinks and thinks it over, and then nods wearily. "You're not wrong. Feels like my brain's been drawn on the anvil." He scowls, waves a hand. "I need a bloody drink. Go on - clear off. I've seen enough of your face today."
Hector considers telling him the drink probably isn't great for a head injury either... but he's got other concerns he needs to worry about, anyway.
