Can you do George hcs when your american? Dating and it doesn't really matter but female reader? Thank you and I love your writing smmmm
Thank you, sweetie! I hope you enjoy it!
George x female reader
As soon as he discovered there was an American in his midst, he just had to meet you.
He was immediately entranced.
And wanted to know everything about you.
What was it like growing up in the States?
Did you like going to Ilvermorny?
Do you eat pizza and tacos for every meal?
Teases you about your accent. But secretly thinks it's the hottest thing ever.
Honestly, he will sit for hours just listening to you talk.
He starts watching lots of American movies trying to pick up all the different accents.
This leads to a bit of confusion on occasion. Especially when he tries emulating Joe Pesci in My Cousin Vinny.
"Two youts."
"What??"
Your response matched the judge's perfectly until you realized what George was talking about.
youtube
Even after you'd been together for a while, he still loves hearing you pronounce words "the American way."
It's 11pm, and you're almost asleep:
George: "Y/N, are you awake?"
Y/N (knowing where this is going): "No."
George: "Oh good! Say schedule."
Y/N: "No."
George: "Please... I need to hear it before I can sleep!"
Y/N: "No."
George: "Just once. Pleeeease..."
Y/N (suppressing a grin): "Fine... Schedule."
George: "Perfect," he sighs and buries his face in your hair, promptly going to sleep.
The first time he went to the States with you, he was like a kid in a candy store.
He had to go EVERYWHERE and do EVERYTHING.
You took him to your hometown to meet your family and friends (who, btw, absolutely adore him).
Then to visit Ilvermorny.
And as a surprise, to New York City to take in a couple of Broadway musicals.
He loved every minute of it.
Though, he admits that you are, by far, the best thing to ever come out of the US.
George never envisioned he'd fall in love with an American, but you're everything he ever dreamed of in a woman, and he can't imagine his life without you in it.

List 5 facts about a favorite sim of yours, and send this to 10 simblrs whose sims you adore 💜
Tumblr media
✨ Gabriel R. ✨
⛏️ Welder by profession, very hands on and won't pay for anything he can do/fix himself (which includes a lot of trial and error). He found his dining table by the side of the road and re-did it.
🎬 His favorite movie is My Cousin Vinny. The lesser known fact (which he will never admit to) is that he enjoys watching Gilmore Girls. However, if you look in the cupboard, you will find Luke's diner coffee mug. It's a mystery!
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 He's saving money to buy a big plot of land and live off his metal workshop. He's a provider and wants a big family one day. Until then, he remains his niece's favorite uncle.
⏹️ Not into modern art museums unless they have lots of places to sit. Once you've seen one geometric shape, you've seen them all, he may or may not have said.
🌋 Sometimes, he could be quite impulsive and struggles with patience, but has gotten better with age. Growing up, he was expelled from a high school because he questioned authority and things they taught him.
Thank you anon for tagging me! 🧡

WWTG, The Winter Solstice: The Welcome Ball III
Tumblr media
Everything was going as well as it could be. The Welcome Ball was afoot and Primrose observed from a chair that her beloved people had made for her as a gift for producing an heir. Malcolm was beside her, observing quietly the guests and commenting on the now absent faces they didn't see.
"Henry wrote back to me. No word of what he and the Goldcrests are up to in Scotland, though," It was true. This morning, they had received a letter from Henry and Elian each. It was odd that they didn't attend this year's festivities, and many whispered of it.
"Elian was quiet as well," Malcolm added "hopefully they aren't roping one another into danger."
Primrose chuckled "Hopefully being the factor word here. Of both of us, you ought to know Elian best." She teased.
Malcolm let out a small laugh "You're right, dear. Danger chases our dear friend, I'm afraid."
Primrose observed Simon Battersea, standing in a corner, surely pining for his faraway sultana "Poor boy. I wish I could do something to make his stay less lonely." She looked at Malcolm "I shall dance with him the next number."
Malcolm nodded "Be my guest, dear. I shall see myself that Mr. Rowle doesnt rue the night."
He kissed her hand and she extended her hand to the young earl "Dance with me, Earl Simon?" She gave him a smile that she knew well nobody ought to deny.
"Can you? In your condition?" He asked concerned.
"A little movement will do good to me and my child."
He bowed "I shall oblige, then."
Tumblr media
Cecilia wasn't Harlan Rowle's biggest fan, and despite him having a nice face to look at and a certain charm -though she'd rather perish the thought than admit it out loud- but he made her beloved Vinnie laugh, and that was enough for her to tolerate him, no matter how much she liked the idea of punching him in the throat, though the cad would find a way to make the situation humorous.
As the quadrille begun, she and Vinnie looked at one another "Sneak to our spot for our people-watching game?"
"Always!"
Brushing their hands, they left for a small terrace that Viscountess Primrose kept close to her heart, but Cecilia had worked a way to give her access as well. Suffices to say, the oh-so-perfect viscountess once had some scandalous rendezvouses with a beautiful and witty painter.
"Tell me, dearest, who shall be your victim for the night?" Cecilia inquired.
Lavinia observed the people around until her eyes on poor, flushed Orpheus Kenway, who looked positively lost "Oh, good Godric, by the time I have been here, I have only made a mess with five syllables or less, and overshadowed by my unsufferable villain of a brother! Whatever shall I do without cousin Charis?! Oh, Godric, grant me mercy, because polite society won't!" She cried as Cecilia snickered.
Cecilia observed the poor Adonis Demiurgos, his usual twinkle gone and observing wistfully the dancing pairs "Oh, woe is me, wherever is my witty little nightingale, who pecks me deliciously so with her razor pen? Oh, Minerva, my Minnie, where art thou?!"
Lavinia doubled in laughter, Cecilia covering her mouth while she tried to regain her breath "God, Cecy, you are vicious!"
"But true," she winked.
Not having realised till now that they were leaning on one another, Cecilia kissed her nose and Lavinia scrunched her nose. Seeing if anyone was searching for them, they kissed softly for a minute before breaking apart "I don't wish to go back, but..."
"Primrose can only buy us so much time."
Both women finally emerged from their hidden corner and rejoined the festivities, which were thankfully winding down.
Tumblr media
Adonis downed yet another brandy as he slowly started to believe that no Kennedy would attend this year's festivities. Ed had given his word to check on his calendar, and the next thing he knew, he was already at Winbourne, wondering where Minerva could've run off to.
A concerned Primrose approached him. He stood up and quickly curtsied in respect for the lady "My lady."
"I see that Miss Kennedy won't be in attendance. It's a shame. I always enjoyed her literary insight. And don't say which one, or take me for a fool for that matter, Mr. Demiurgos, because I know better."
He raised his hands in defeat "Worry not, my lady, I know that you can't be fooled even if I tried."
"Tell you what, I have a drawing room that is perfect for some... illicit writing."
He cocked an eyebrow, intrigued "Do tell me..."

I've been in the CK fandom for a long time, since season 1, but I've really seen Silverusso become rather popular starting in season 4. I think this is due to Terry being re-introduced, Johnny's character unfortunately declining in writing, and just the strangeness of KK3 in general.
Seriously, I never watched the KK movies until I watched CK--when I went back and watched them, I was absolutely blown away by the Daniel and Terry dynamic more than any other dynamic in the movies (except Miyagi and Daniel, for platonic and parental reasons <3). Even in CK, it's Terry and Daniel who hold the main appeal for me even now, more than any other pair. By far. (Though I do like Terry and Kreese's now-toxic-comrade-in-arms dynamic even if I don't ship them, and really like all of Daniel and Sam's scenes!)
Anyway, there's something about Silverusso that makes it this almost Wolf/Little Red thing. They constantly have this going on despite Daniel being a grown man in CK (I think Macchio's wide-eyed perky sweetness and TIG's sophistication adds to this Big Time). It just never really goes away. Also the strange sensual undertones in every interaction they have. It feels almost Bronte-like to me. Like a gothic romance that wouldn't be out of place in Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre or something. Passionate and dark and deep and barely restrained.
And yet, on a lighter note, perhaps in an AU--I think Terry and Daniel would get along fabulously well if you took away Terry's darker angels. They have a lot in common despite their differences, and there's a strangely magnetic draw between them. Also, I think they can be quite humourous together.
On a more shallow note, they look good together, being the absolute opposites on the male spectrum of good looks. Daniel is eternally youthful, doe-eyed and pretty, and Terry's just really handsome in a traditionally masculine way; tall, dark and charming.
In your opinion, what makes Silverusso so appealing? Are there any other pairings they remind you of?
Could you please write an essay on why you find Silverusso so appealing? Why yes indeed, I could, Nonnie! Thank you!
A lot of things you have already mentioned, the Brontë-like dark romanticism between them is certainly a draw for me, the... primalness of it all.
Here goes!
Now, I think that primal attraction is there in all Daniel's 'rivalries', ahem, but these were all boys who, in truly toxic masculine way, have no other outlet for deep, overwhelming feelings than helpless, angry violence.
Terry is much more dangerous, but also much more attractive: his violence, his power, is calculated.
Now before I go on I have to say that I have a thing for strong men, OK. And by strong I do not mean beefcakes. Daniel LaRusso is a strong boy who has grown into a very strong man. Loving, reliable, responsible, sweet, funny, he does chores, he flirts, he dances, and he will sock anyone who harasses you in the nose. The strange thing about Daniel is that he often is at the receiving end of harassment, too, sexual even, and so many women will relate. He's a bit fluid with women: 100% protective mode with Kumiko, though both Amanda and Ali are not the type - they will fuck people up when they look wrong at Daniel and Daniel likes that, too. Poor boy - because he is an eternal boy - really needs backups, and his father figures keep dying on him (though he had decades with Mr. Miyagi; still, that abandonment wound with Mr. LaRusso had already cut him, and deep).
I forever headcanon Daniel's father as Robert De Niro, because Ralph has played De Niro's son on stage and Joe Pesci's cousin in My Cousin Vinny, so I imagine his father to be a strong, working class Italian-American man, like the father in A Bronx Tale-loving, loyal, firm too, hardworking, the type a small boy would idolise as invincible- and then he gets sick. And that rock of a man wastes away before Daniel's eyes. And he tells him to take care of his Mama and Daniel, all but 8, does. Because he has to be a man but he still is a man like Daniel. Much different from those Soprano types, because he is strong enough to be his soft, sensitive self. That takes guts.
Oh, and - some spice with all the sugar: he would 100% kill a man. "Why didn't you kill [Kreese]?" "I wish you would have killed him."
And now you mix that with Terry.
Now Terry Silver is a strong man. And not because he could kill you with his pinkie - although he could probably kill you with his pinkie. But the man gives zero fucks, while having the brain and brawn to back it up. It takes dedication not only to become a Tae Kwon Do master, but stay one until his 70's! He's from money, but he flaunts those rules; he's camp af, surrounds himself with pretty young boys and his best friend is John Kreese: his parents would not approve. But he's still cultured, well traveled, smart with his money, extremely smart about people. He has a moral code about loyalty but God knows what it actually is. He both cares for people and throws them under the bus when they least expect it and to his credit as a person, he's really tried to temper those destructive impulses. For all we know he has spent the last 30 years trying to conduct his own power, madness, maybe even genius into something socially acceptable and who prompted that?
Daniel LaRusso and his honest sweetness, loyalty, and latently murderous impulses.
What a cocktail.
What an intense fascination Terry must have felt for him. He knew right away: "You like that, Mr. LaRusso?"
"Yeah. I like that."
What did he do after meeting Daniel LaRusso and failing to procure and defeat him?
Go on a massive bender and turn his life around.
And then of course, to mention something that may not be everyone's cup of tea: the power exchange between the two.
Daniel's a sweet boy, but he's also a bit of a brat. Sometimes he really wants to be put in his place (possibly in the calm, firm way I imagine his father used to do, but again, those are simply my headcanons). He needles Johnny a few times until he snaps but if you see how Daniel reacts to being manhandled it's quite atypical. Sometimes he fights but when the other is clearly stronger, he turns to putty in their hands. Also, if he really didn't want to be told off by Mr. Miyagi after angrily snapping at him in the first film, he could have actually gone home when he said he would, got on his bike and cycled away. He didn't. He wanted attention.
Terry literally says he likes that attitude on him. He loves the bickering, and he loves putting Daniel in his place too. Most people would probably not want a relationship with somebody if you're constantly circling the edge of violence. But Daniel loves it, seeks it out, and when it happens, goes completely gorgeous, doe-eyed and soft! And other than with Johnny and Chozen, who, as boys, don't have enough countrol not to let the spats with Daniel become very, very dangerous (they both almost killed him) Terry has great control. Terry would never accidently kill him. Terry hardly so much as touches him in tkk3 and even when he fights him, he does it in a calculated way (that armgrip in the fight in "Extreme Measures" was very painful, but as a sensei pointed out - a little lower and he would have pulverised Daniel's elbow. He didn't, because he didn't want to). So if you want to fight, Terry is actually the safer one to do it with (unless he wants to kill you. Which he doesn't, acutally? He didn't kill Chozen or Johnny when he had all the chance in the world).
I also find it very telling Daniel didn't go back for Kumiko - which honestly I think was a mistake - but married Amanda, who in looks and demeanor might as well have been Terry's sister.
So the innocent sweet boy with a dark edge meets the big bad wolf with a chance of redemption, there is passion, there's yin and yang, they're both hot, they both(?) like women too, they're well acted, Ralph and Thomas are interesting artists and fun in interviews... there's just a lot there. It's not a juvenile story, but when they started it they were both in their late twenties and now both men are in their sixties. It can be a little adult and a little complicated. They can handle it.

Hey 😊 no problem! I was trying to say if performances of characters that are written and intended as comedic characters played by actors who aren’t comedians or known for being the “comedic character” like you said Seth Rogen. Actors where it’s can be surprising just how funny they are and how naturally they can pull off a comedic role because you’re so used to seeing them in more dramatic/serious roles. Sorry if I’m not making sense hahaha
No, I get it, so for that I'm not going to include someone like Bradley Whitford who is a dramatic actor but always brings a sense of wit/irony to his roles. Or even George Clooney who does a lot of serious roles but also has an element of humour a lot of time in his characters.
Joe Pesci is ... interesting because I was first introduced to him as a kid watching Home Alone, which is very slapstick and a kid's movie and it wasn't until I was older that I realized it was funny because he was a serious actor who had a penchant for playing terrifying mobsters who flew off the handle and Home Alone was kind of poking fun at that but I'm still going to include him because he's just naturally funny so even though Tommy in GoodFellas is a terrifying character, Joe was really funny playing him and then he did My Cousin Vinny which is just a straight up comedy and it was hilarious.
Ralph Fiennes was pretty funny in In Bruges
I remember being surprised by Jon Hamm being funny in Bridesmaids
Kate Winslet had an episode in Extras and I remember being surprised by how funny she could be, particularly since I don't care for her much
Death Becomes Her is like ... one of the most over-the-top, outrageous, you just had to be there, 90s movies that I love and Meryl Streep was great in it.
Sterling K Brown has, like, RANGE so I wasn't exactly surprised by how funny he was in his episode of B99 but it was like a delight to see
Tom Cruise also surprised me when I saw Tropic Thunder and in fact I didn't realize it was him until I left the movie theatre and heard these two dudes being like HE WAS FUCKING EPIC IN IT and I was like where the fuck was Tom Cruise??
I'm sure there are others but I can't think of them right now.

hello!!
ahh yes, pre-owned are the best!! it’s so cool to think that someone, maybe even multiple someone’s, once had the same excitement that I did when they found that record! it’s almost the same feeling as when you’re reading a library book and you find someone else’s book mark…it’s like a little piece of their life.
omg i really love biopics too!! I haven’t watched Love and Mercy yet, but another friend of mine recommended to me too, so I’ll definitely have to watch it now!! My personal favorite biopic is Rocketman! I also really like things to at are just enjoyable to sit through…I’m not a huge movie person, but I definitely have the ones that I like! Some of my favorites are Little Shop of Horrors, Rocketman, Ferris Bueller‘s Day Off, Ghostbusters, A Hard Day’s Night, Knives Out, Help!, My Cousin Vinny, The Blues Brothers…and this list is much longer than I thought it was gonna be haha on the same note, do you have any favorite TV shows? Is there anything you’re currently watching right now?
and don’t worry about rambling!! i love reading your replies!! :D

ROCKETMAN WAS SO MUCH FUN OMG, i’d never been a huge elton john fan until i saw that and listened to more of his music but i enjoyed that movie so much omg!!! i have a secret soft spot for musicals and i love that that movie played out like a movie musical, it was such a fun take on a musician biopic and i loved it so much. those are all such good movie choices too!!!! i love all of those, i really do like things that are fun and i can shut my brain off while watching :-)
i’m so picky about tv shows i like tbh, i also have such a hard time sitting and committing to a whole series but i do hold the ones i like very close to my heart for sure
i love a lot of older tv shows that i grew up watching with my mom though, i love the 1960s batman series, the munsters, quantum leap, gilligan’s island, i love lucy, the original scooby doo series, just to name a few. i love a lot of old western tv shows too, i have the music and tv show taste of someone’s grandma 😭 some newer shows i like though are shameless, bob’s burgers, ash vs evil dead, you, orange is the new black, midnight mass and we do in the shadows!!! i usually go back to things that are comforting/i’m familiar with though because i much prefer having tv shows on as background noise personally :-)

The last 2 days I've just really felt empty for my dad.
We had such a special time together, man.
We had our own gobbledygook language. We made each other laugh everyday. Our humor was largely unique to each other and my mom tagged along.
And now with my mom's horrifying diagnosis with endometrial cancer only a year after my dad's death from 6 years of painful struggle with vascular dementia that stole him and our years with him.
I'm just in a void. They're the only people that understand and accept all of me. When they're gone nobody will be around me 100% of the time. Nobody will know me add they do. No one will speak to me in Hungarian or even in our own familial way of saying things.
I'll be alone in a profound way.
And my dad being long gone during all this is a solar system sized hole.
He would've been nervously wracking his brain "why she get this fuckin' cancer again?" He'd need his special way of ruminating. Sometimes talking to himself, gesturing with his hand. To which of say "Are you talking to yourself? What's up Apu?"
Then he'd dodge it for a moment and then let spill what's on his mind. And I'd help him understand, I'd tell him what the doctor said. We'd discuss it until it transitioned into another topic and we'd solve the anxieties he was having, but not the impossible answers we sought together.
Then it would migrate to The Great Outdoors (1987) quotes or my acting out My Cousin Vinny scenes. He'd laugh and call me crazy. He'd feel better. Then he'd come back around to the original subject and we'd be somber.
I'd lay my head on his chest on the couch where he'd sit. We'd say I know. We'll help mom, we have to do the work for her. He'd say "that's right."
He'd tap my shoulder or back with he hand and say, "Well, Okay..." And we'd relax and watch Andy Griffith Show or some Animal Planet program.
But now it's just imagining. Educated guessing Fantasy of what he might do. I'm sure I have the high probability of accurately knowing what he'd do. Because I knew that old man's soul. I know his pattern and his unpredictability. But it doesn't fix the fact that I miss him. And I've missed him a long time longer than he's been entombed in his resting place.
I mourned my dad many times. I mourned him "disappearing" from dementia. When he forgot my name and who I was. I mourned him when I told him I was his 'golden son' and he accepted me with a confused but happy face. I mourned him when he was afraid of me and didn't know me. I mourned him when he couldn't speak very well anymore. I mourned him when he died. When they picked him up. When I saw him in his casket. When we tucked him in and closed him up. And when we finally placed him meet to his beloved brother. He left me wounded. And that wound will never ever heal.
I am not ready for any more mourning. I'll go to the ends of reality to help my mom stick around to be an old old woman. That's what he'd want. That's what she wants and what I need.
My mom and I aren't done yet. She still has plans and hopes and love to give. She still has people to visit and hug and be motherly too. Not just me.
And she has me. And our family dreams and travels and hopes to finish!

Movies I watched this Week - #78
RIP, Jean-Louis Trintignant X 2:
🎦🎦🎦 I finally saw Amour, my 7th - and possibly favorite - film by Michael Haneke. Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva play Georges and Anne Laurent (always the Laurents!) as the old couple who live their last days together. Magnificent film, well-deserving the many accolades it received.
What was the significant of the water that kept pouring all the time? 10/10.
🎦🎦🎦 And God Created Woman, the movie that launched Brigitte Bardot’s career. Voluptuous, promiscuous and exuding uninhibited sexual energy, she’s a force of nature. And young, naive Trintignant can’t help but falls for her, hard. Condemned by the National Legion of Decency.
🍿
First watch: How can it be that I’ve seen 20 of Steven Soderbergh’s films, but I never actually seen his Ocean Trilogy? I must remedy this at once! Ocean’s Eleven tense heist was too nerve-racking but fun to watch. Now I’ll seek the other three in the franchise, as well as the 1960 original.
🍿
3 more from Denmark:
🎦🎦🎦 Because of my visit to Helsingør last week, I decided to watch the 8-parts Danish detective show The Sommerdahl Murders, which takes place there.
However, unlike other recent Nordic Noir series, this one felt flat and uninspired. Boring characters, unoriginal police procedural and ordinary Danish slice of life, while flirting with a triangle love affair. The only positive were the ravishing drone shots of landscapes and locations around small beach-community Elsinore. 3/10.
🎦🎦🎦 Danish photographer Jacob Holdt was hugely influential on my life. Between 1970-1975 he hitchhiked in The States, and with a cheap camera documented the ugly, dehumanizing lives of the poor, black and underclasses. (Photo Above). His book ‘American Pictures’ was an inspiration, and I wanted to experience similar adventures myself, when I moved to the US a few years later.
My life in pictures, is an auto-biographical 2016 documentary about him. It’s interesting to fill some of the gaps about his life: He continues to care and work for oppressed minorities worldwide until now. The most interesting thing for me is the ending, when he runs his second Palestinian Marathon in Bethlehem. 6/10.
🎦🎦🎦 ... And just because I can, I saw my all-time favorite Danish drama After the wedding - again (for the 4th time in a year!). 10/10.
🍿
Another with the delectable Sidse Babett Knudsen, A hologram for the king. But it was a disappointment: An aimless and confused story where salesman Tom Hanks is sent to Saudi Arabia and gets stuck in a series of unexplained and meaningless dead ends.
This is the 2nd film by Tom Tykwer that I’ve seen this month (after ‘Perfume’), and the 4th one based on a screenplay by David Eggers - and I disliked all 5 experiences to various large degrees, which is unsettling.
🍿
The new high-concept FX series The Old Man, with 72-year-old Jeff Bridges as a retired CIA operative, hidden off the grid for 30 years, but still lethal. The Dude is simply a fantastic actor: his every glance is full of gravitas, and each of his utterances sound like a sage man talking. So I wish this intense thriller was even better: The Afghani backstory doesn’t stand up to present-day Bridges. I saw the first 4 available episodes, and will probably drip-watch the rest, as they become available. 5/10.
🍿
4 X Marisa Tomei (2 in courtroom dramas, and 2 in Ira Sachs films):
🎦🎦🎦 “Your honor, I object!” The Lincoln Lawyer is a terrible LA “legal thriller”. Actually, most all courtroom dramas, as popular as some are, are unrealistic. The proceedings and mannerism that are the tropes of all these films are overdramatic and fake. Matthew McConaughey as a lawyer chauffeured around in an old Lincoln Towncar is trash. 1/10.
🎦🎦🎦 My Cousin Vinny suffers from the same disease, with crazy court proceedings, even as it passes them as ‘comedy of errors’. Between ‘Goodfellas’ and ‘Casino’ Joe Pesci tried to play a (semi)-romantic fellow. The only saving grace is his give and take with Judge Fred Gwynne. And of course, Mona Lisa Vito, his dishy fiancée. 3/10.
🎦🎦🎦 Frankie, my first wistful film by Ira Sachs. The glorious Isabelle Huppert plays a famous French actress, about to die of cancer before the end of the year, so she invites her large family for one last vacation in the Portuguese Riviera. It’s not often that you feel the sublime beauty of a location as you do here outside Sintra. It’s as if this was made as a tourist promo.
Best new film of the week!
🎦🎦🎦 Love is strange, another warm drama by Ira Sachs. Ageing gay couple John Lithgow and Alfred Molina get married after 39 years together, but Molina loses his job as a music teacher because of their union, and they must sell their Manhattan apartment in order to couch-surf separately with friends and family. The arrangement though is difficult, because the crowded spaces where they stay are cramped and uncomfortable. Marisa Tomei is a much too-nice writer who tries her best to accommodate one of them while he stays in the small, claustrophobic apartment. This captures the most realistic, undramatic living quarters I’ve ever seen on film. 6/10.
🍿
Award-winning Korean coming-of-age drama, House of hummingbird. A gentle and sympathetic story of an ordinary 14-year-old girl who is unappreciated and unloved by her family and classmates. Quiet and nuanced, a bit long but very touching. No mention of any hummingbirds, though. 8/10.
🍿
Leave her to heaven, Twentieth Century-Fox's highest-grossing film of the entire 1940′s. A weird blend of film noir, psychological thrillers, and high melodramas, with drop-dead gorgeous Gene Tierney as a chillingly jealous and calculating femme fatale. In vibrant Technicolor, and with wooden Vincent Price. Cinematically it felt very uneven to me.
🍿
2 documentaries:
🎦🎦🎦 The Mexican Suitcase, a fascinating documentary about the discovery of over 4000 film negatives created during the Spanish Civil War by war photographers Robert Capa, Gerda Taro and David Seymour. The photos disappeared at the beginning of World War II and were rediscovered in Mexico City in 2007. It’s a very similar story to ‘Finding Vivian Maier’. The bloody Spanish Civil was ruthless and it mobilized the first international fight against fascism. 7/10.
I've seen ‘Secret of the Beehive’ but I have a hard time finding other good films about that period.
🎦🎦🎦 Endangered is an HBO investigation of threats against journalists, from intimidation to physical violence. An impressionist and limited glimpse at 4 journalists trying to cover the news. Exec-produced by Ronan Farrow. 6/10.
🍿
Back to Jodorowsky, after so many years, starting with El Topo, his drug fueled revenge fantasy, symbolic Acid spaghetti western. Full of deranged hippy metaphors like a desert corral full of dead rabbits, a cave of maimed dwarfs, a grave covered with bees, and buckets of blood. Culturally, historically this transgressive Hero Journey was significant in 1970, and today?
“...You are seven years old. You are a man. Bury your first toy and the photo of your mother...”
🍿
The 2nd Bean story, Mr. Bean's Holiday, with Rowan Atkinson and Willem Dafoe. Bean is a bumbling rubber-face fool, a childish grown-up man with poor social skills who behaves like a moronic clown. Nearly mute, and inspired in part by Monsieur Hulot, his best moments are when he’s left to do wild visual slapstick. I liked the very final ‘La Mer’ scene the most. 3/10.

MASTERLIST - JOIN MY TAGLIST
“Hey, darling,” Harry said as you opened the front door.
You were quick to pull him into a hug; hearing him call you darling now set off a swarm of butterflies in your tummy. You’d been friends forever, secretly crushing on each other for a year, and thanks to Harrison and Grace, you’d both recently confessed your feelings and gotten together.
You’d planned a little night in with him, setting up a projector in the backyard in front of the swing so you could watch movies together. A nice simple night, one like you used to have, but carrying a whole different feeling now.
He pecked your temple, “I brought chocolates and soda,” he whispered, pulling back from your hug and stepping inside.
“Mm, thank you, beer’s in the fridge,” you informed him, locking the door behind him as he trailed down the hall to the kitchen.
“Locking me in are you?” he called, pulling out a beer and popping off the top.
You chuckled at him, not really knowing what to answer, “well, we’re gonna be in the back and, ya know, I don’t really wanna risk anyone walkin’ in while we’re distracted or anything,” you stuttered.
“Relax, doll, only joking,” he laughed.
You giggled at him, relaxing slightly, “out back then?”
“Lead the way,” he answered, grabbing his goodies.
You trailed out onto the back patio, Harry following close behind. He clasped a hand to your hip, stopping you in your tracks so he could open the sliding glass door for you.
As soon as you got outside, you grabbed your favorite blanket off the porch swing and settled in. Harry set his goodie bag on the patio table and sat down next to you, grabbing the control for the movie.
“What’d you pick tonight?” he asked casually.
“A fan favorite,” you whispered.
“Oh no,” he groaned, “darling, I do like this movie, but there are so many others you could choose!”
“Oh c’mon! It’s my favorite! Please?” you asked, batting your eyelashes at him.
He rolled his eyes, but couldn’t contain the smile bubbling across his cheeks as he answered, “alright, but next time I get to pick, okay?”
“We’ll see about that,” you answered, pressing a light kiss to his jawline.
Way Down South started blazing through the speakers and you swayed back and forth just a bit to the music; My Cousin Vinny flashed across the screen and you flashed Harry a smile. He was quick to pull out his phone, videoing you and the title screen, before posting it to his private story.
He knew Tom and Harrison would give him shit for watching this yet again, but in all honesty, he couldn’t be happier than just to be here with you.
He shifted around on the bench, swinging it back and forth while he got comfortable; you giggled at him while he did so, but quickly stopped once you realized what he was doing. He threw one leg up behind you; the other dangled off the bench, as he rested his back against the armrest. He opened his arms, gesturing for you to lay between his legs.
You quickly shuffled over, this time giving him the chance to laugh as the bench swung around. You settled in his lap, laying on your side and pressing your cheek into his chest. He traced one hand over your arm, the other rested on the back of the swing, beer sitting gently between his fingers.
~~~~
Halfway through the movie he started to stir; you thought you were probably getting heavy on his chest, and to be honest you needed to stretch as well, so you could only imagine how he was feeling.
“Need to get up?” you asked lightly, starting to shuffle around.
“No, not really, not if you're comfortable,” he was quick to answer.
“I think I need to pop to the loo for a second if that’s alright?” you asked, already standing up.
“Course,” he chuckled, pausing the movie and setting his now empty beer bottle on the table.
While you were inside, he took the chance to stretch out and move around a bit. He gathered some of the extra blankets and made a make-shift cushion for himself to ease the wood digging into his back. He wouldn’t have told you he was uncomfortable of course, but since he had the opportunity to make things a little better, he took it.
When you came back out, Harry had scooted the table closer to the bench, making it easier to reach the snacks, and now was scrolling through his phone.
“Hmm, been busy out here,” you giggled lightly.
“Huh?” he asked, looking up before adding, “oh yeah, just thought I’d make things a little better.”
You smiled at him, grabbing your blanket off the back of the bench and going to sit on the other end. He looked at you with an eyebrow raised before gesturing to your previous spot and holding his arms open once again.
“You sure?” you asked gently.
“Positive, c’mon love,” he reassured you.
You settled back in, curling up against his frame and clutching your bottom arm to your chest. Your top hand reached forward and closed around his, quickly pulling it towards your heart.
He smiled, running his free hand over your hair before picking up the remote and playing the movie again. He placed the remote back on the table and mindlessly dropped his hand on top of your body.
For a second you thought he’d placed it there on purpose and you squeezed his fingers lightly with both of your hands. But when you thought about it, his breathing hadn’t picked up and when you glanced up at him, he didn’t seem to be paying any attention at all. You started giggling uncontrollably. You didn’t want to laugh at him or make him nervous or anything, but for some reason you found this thoroughly funny.
“What’re you laughing at?” he chuckled at you. Nothing funny had happened on screen that he was aware of, but you did have a thing for this movie, so who was he to judge?
“You,” you giggled.
“Me?” he asked with a light chuckle, “what on Earth did I do?”
“Your hand.”
He looked over to where his hand was resting; he was quick to pull it back, now laying it on your back, while he blushed profusely and stammered.
“I- Uh, sorry, I- I didn’t mean to touch your bum, promise, I wasn’t paying attention, I’m so sorry!”
You were quick to press a kiss to his finger tips of the hand you were holding as you snaked your top hand over to find his other one. You wrapped your fingers around his wrist, guiding his arm back to where it was.
“Leave it there,” you whispered.
His pupils dilated and his face flushed two shades darker as he chuckled again.
You snuggled further into his chest, turning your focus back to the movie, but you sure didn’t miss the light swirls he drew into your backside until it ended.
there's this upload of a movie ralph did in 1999 and I'm gonna watch it at some point obvs, but I was going through it so I had a reference for a character of his ageing to around the same and I just
I don't know if it's because I haven't seen anything he's done right around this time, but it's like he's not finished baking -- he's not karate kid ralph or my cousin vinny ralph or naked in new york ralph, which is the latest thing I've seen of his until like... sweep the leg (2007) and he doesn't actually talk in that
but there's just an era of ralph that exists between what I apparently have been mentally dividing into pre-2000s and post-2000s ralph macchio and it's this movie and I cannot wrap my head around who this person is for some reason???
he doesn't sound like 90s ralph and he doesn't sound like post-2010 ralph, who is this man????
Thanks for translating several puyo games!
Big fan of you all!
Now here's a question: how did you get into puyo?
Once again ty for all translations bye
Ingu:
When I was in elementary school, my cousins had a PlayStation that they had pirated random games onto, one of those being Puyo Puyo Sun. I’ve been a fan since, though I didn’t even know there were other Puyo games until I was (cough) pirating games for my DS in middle school and saw 7, 15th, and 20th Anniversary available. I just kept coming back to it, but I never thought I’d actually translate for it until a Japanese friend I made in college was playing Puyo Puyo Quest in class. After that I started trying to translate on the wiki, and somehow I’m still here for now.
Neni:
I've been a huge fan of Panel de Pon(Puzzle League) ever since I was a kid and wanted more of that, plus, when I was a tween a Puyo Pop Fever ad in a Mickey Mouse Magazine struck my fancy, but I never ended up buying it and always regretted that. I had several small encounters with Puyo after that before Puyo Puyo Tetris helping me through a covid infection in 2020 finally dragged me in completely. The fact that it has story and character makes it everything I wished Panel de Pon had been, but didn't become because Nintendo killed the fairies before it could-
Cove:
I got into Puyo after my cousin introduced me to their pirated copy of Puyo Pop Fever at some family gathering. Fast forward a couple of years and I was sitting down and thinking to myself, "I wonder what happened to that weird puzzle game I used to play with my cousin. I remember liking the art and the gameplay a lot" so I went searching and found a lot of history, like, a lot of it. I spent a good afternoon reading up on wherever the series was at this point in time and watched a playthrough of Puyo Fever 2. Ended up watching playthroughs for pretty much all the SEGA games before emulating a copy of PPF2, and now I'm here.
Res:
I saw puyo puyo tetris on a meme account on Instagram and I thought the style was cute so I put it on my wishlist. Later that month I won a $30 gift card from my school and I combined that with my eShop funds to get it
Nico:
I first heard about Puyo cause of the mode in Sega Superstars and just knew it was a Sega puzzle game. Then I finally got into the whole series once Tetris released https://youtu.be/mWynf0USV5k
Deltrix:
"o tetris on switch, nice…but wait what the hell is a puyo?" "idk but these sig and ami pals look cute together" The rest is chaos.
Saetta:
there was once a game night in a wii server around early 2020 and they played puyo puyo 7. then i tried it for some reason and i got into the franchise. though i did play puyo fever on ds in like 2013 first.
Tanline:
My introduction to Puyo was… well, rather staggered. The first time I heard about it was during a phase I had when I was obsessed with those Danganronpa fan stories on Instagram. One of them featured Puyo Puyo Tetris characters; I looked it up, but I wasn't really interested in the series. Later on, there was a game night in a server I was in, and the game happened to be Puyo Puyo 7 (yep, this is the same game night that Saetta was in). I got the game and started playing a bit to get a hang of the gameplay; THAT was when I got interested. After the game night, I researched the games more and more, and eventually became interested in the series.
Silver:
i played mbm a lot as a kid but had no idea what i was doing. learned years later on the internet that it was a reskin of a different series. have been vaguely adjacent to the fandom ever since but i wasn't ready to get into it yet because i didn't think i could handle another small fandom at the time (lol). didn't properly get into it until vinny played ppt1, which i watched w/ luna
Luna:
i was completely oblivious to puyo existing for most of my life until 2017 when silver asked if i wanted to watch vinny play puyo puyo tetris with him. then we both fell into hell
Luli:
It's a little bit funny, I never noticed it before but the series always showed up to me in little bits throughout the past several years that I didn't recognize at the time. Then in Summer 2019 I was writing a story with a friend who made a character with Schezo-like mannerisms. She showed me a video of his lines for reference, it was hilarious and I just kept going back to watch it over and over. I played 15th Anniversary soon after, Sig and Amitie became my faves and I got hooked on the story of the series 😅
