President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is in Western Europe to make the case for military jets to shoot down Russian missiles and deter any new aggression by Putin’s army.

His first stop was London where he was well received.

In a historic address to members of the Commons and the Lords at Westminster Hall, Zelenskiy made the call in a speech lavishing praise on Britain’s leadership in the world, and was immediately backed by Zelenskiy’s firmest British ally, Boris Johnson.

The former prime minister said: “It is time to give Ukraine the extra equipment they need to defeat Putin and bring peace to Ukraine.’’ He said “the best single use of the 100 Typhoon planes in the UK’s possession is to deploy them now for the protection of Ukraine”, adding, “the faster we do it the better”.

At a joint press conference with Zelenskiy after reviewing the training of Ukrainian troops on a Challenger 2 tank simulator in Dorset, Sunak said “nothing was off the table”. The prime minister said the UK provision of planes was “part of the conversation” but that the very immediate need was for longer-range missiles and tanks, something the UK was providing and showing global leadership.

Zelenskyy presented a pilot’s helmet with an inscription from Ukraine’s top gun to House of Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle.

He was also invited to Buckingham Palace where he met King Charles III.

And late Wednesday he arrived in Paris where he met with President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

^^^ Putin would probably be afraid these days to enter a room with a guard holding a real sword.

The only way this war will end for sure is with a clear Russian defeat. So give Ukraine everything it needs (except nukes) to drive out the invaders. The world will be a safer place when Russia starts acting like a normal 21st century country.

Last weekend I got to visit Alexandre Dumas' castle and oh boy did he know how to spend his money. This castle has Everything. The whole place just shone with Great Decisions (naturally he had to sell it off after 4 years because money troubles). I genuinely loved it. Look at it:

He named it after his novel, there's a grotto, you get there going through a rock tunnel (all with convenient seats carved in of course) he put his faves on the outside and it all just has so much personality!

I'll put some of my favourite features under the cut:

First of all, I'm gonna make a sepsrate post for Dumas' writing castle, because yes he built a whole seperate castle to write in and it's even more amazing. (The architect for both was Hippolyte Durand).

So, favourite features:

The stonecarvings were so pretty! And so personal! Over everyone window is the bust of a great writer, I spotted Shakespeare, Euripides, Ovid. I can only imagine these were Dumas' literary faves. The windows had stain glass symbolism too, but sadly no explanation what they meant (lots of playing cards and knights though, very fun and dramatic) @pilferingapples do you happen to know why the inscription on the knight window is German? Did Dumas speak german?

The Moorish room! Orientalism was going strong around 1840, and apparently Dumas went to Tunisia and brought back a father son artisan duo to make him this room:

(I really want to know what this cost) it seemed like a great lounging room (especially if you might be just a tad hungover).

Dumas had to sell his furniture, so none of that remained, but the museum did get back his chair:

Very cool, especially since we have a photp of Dumas in that chair (this was apparently where he did his last edits for his serial, it looked very comfy and heavily used)

The dining room was so beautiful and clearly the centre of the house. Dumas apparently cooked for his friends (sadly the kitchen is no more) and the parties must have been so amazing.

It really wasn't as grand or austentatious as I expected. I'd live there in a heartbeat.

And lastly, the feature I only just noticed as we were leaving:

You can barely make it out, but it is Dumas' personal motto on a very pretty carved stone scroll:

"J'aime qui m'aime"

I love who loves me. I want to shake both Dumas' and Durand's hands for every bit of personality they put into this castle. Amazing.

PLEASE elaborate on the phoenix and franziska shenanigans during the 7yg you have NO idea how much i like them

I am someone who loved the investigative portion of Bridge to the Turnabout where Franziska had to babysit Phoenix when he wasn't allowed to follow Miles and Iris. I think when he's not her rival defense attorney and is looking particularly pathetic, she is actually pretty chill around him. She is not exempt from his aura that gets young women to imprint on him and follow him around.

She is genuinely offended on his behalf when he gets disbarred because he beat Miles and Manfred and even her! why the hell would he cheat in a case against a teenager! She does not think for a second that he forged that diary page because she knows firsthand how he throws himself into things and cannot prepare an entire evil plan for shit. However, she does not know how to convey this to him so she bullies Miles into flying him and Trucy around because Miles is almost too good at being resigned to pine sadly from a distance.

It's also important to know that she sees Phoenix being a caring father to Trucy and as someone who never really had a valid father, decided that maybe (ex) defense attorneys have rights... Even if Miles didn't get his shit together to put a ring on That Man's finger, Franziska would find herself in Phoenix's found family, it's only a matter of time.

For some reason Phoenix doesn't go to court with Edgeworth, maybe he can't stand being there while not being a lawyer, maybe he forgot he wasn't an attorney once and got kicked out for yelling out an objection, it doesn't matter, Trucy gets to be Edgeworths weirdgirl assistant and Phoenix is stuck investigating with Franziska and they are the worst people to keep each other out of trouble. We're talking about 'guy who ran across a burning bridge' and 'woman who got shot in the shoulder and still managed to get to court eventually' they are an unstoppable duo when they find something they can both get behind.

If anyone can slowly get Franziska to loosen up and learn to embrace the childhood that she lost, it would be Phoenix. I mean, this girl passed the bar at like 13 there was no way she had time to binge she-ra and check out books on drawing horses from the library. He would convince her to get a cat who hangs out in a window backpack that she can carry around during her travels because it turns out that her life is kinda lonely and she totally seems like the cat lesbian type. She is also allergic to cats so she has to get a sphinx or a devon rex or just the most gargoyle/ golbin looking creature to walk on this earth. That just seems like her vibe.

#i don't know exactly what they do but whatever it is it scares the h3ll out of edgeworth #they visit london and realize that they both have ancestors who were lawyers there and that's pretty weird #spreading my van zieks/ von karma connection agenda #I think they should get lost somewhere they shouldn't be and go on a friendship building side quest together #they visit paris and find an entrance to the catacombs and go through a whole horror movie in there #and they come out with the solution to a cold case that's been a mystery for three hundred years #what do you get when you have two dangerously reckless people and take away their impulse control? platonic frannix #they come back to edgeworths apartment where he's watching the steel samurai with Maya and they're covered in ash with no explanation #I just think we should let them loose and see what happens #ask andromeda #phoenix wright #franziska von karma #phoenix and franziska AAI3 WHEN
