1. Alan Rickman (as Severus Snape)

I was like 11 when I got into Harry Potter and my obsession about A.R. focused mainly on Severus Snape. I swear he formed my character during puberty and my entire taste in man. I basically made an Harry Potter OC out of myself and made my entire personality like that Slytherin girl that has a secret romance with her potions teacher… and I made it everyone’s problem. Damn I was annoying

2. Benedict Cumberbatch (as Sherlock Holmes)

I think I joined the BBC Sherlock fandom around the time season 2 dropped and fell so hard for Sherlock. I even when to the first Sherlocked CON in London only to be madly disappointed when I actually met him. I can’t describe it but as I walked into the photo area and stood right next to him I instantly knew I don’t like Him. Like we didn’t even speak much it was just an instand bad feeling that I still have many years later. At the time it felt like a very bad breakup.

3. Mark Gatiss (as Mycroft Holmes)

Always liked his character in BBC Sherlock but I honestly fell in love the same day I lost Benedict. Coping mechanisms? Maybe. Idk.

3. Tom Hiddleston (as Loki)

Honestly what does it say about me that I always fall for the bad guys? It got as far as me cutting my hair short and getting a ridiculously expensive cosplay. Still I’m only here for the older version of Loki. Honestly after Ragnarök everything went to hell and I don’t really enjoy anything that came from the MCU after that. Not even from my beloved god of mischief.

4. Adam Driver (as Kylo Ren)

Look at this face and tell me you’re not in love. Isn’t he just the cutest? And don’t we Love a man that destroyes things when he’s angry?

5. Jared Harris (as Valery Legasov)

Chernobyl somehow triggered something in me that I thought was long dead. It may be because of my families history in the Soviet Union.. I don’t know. But lemme tell you I haven’t produced fanart that excessive in quite a while.

6. Jin-Yi Han (as TalTal)

(I had to make this gif myself because the fandom is f*cking dead) I swear I always join the party years to late. But Jin-Yi Han awoke a new love for Asian culture in me. I never had much interest for KDramas but honestly this one spoke to me. He became a comfort character.

7. Charlies Dance (as Sardo Numspa)

The first time I saw him as Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones I thought Damn Daddy please beat my ass… and the rest is history.

We can kinda see a patern here. Don’t we? (Mostly)Mean dudes with longer (dark) hair and anger management issues. Also I’m a slut for authority.

It's official, HBO will produce the Harry Potter television series that will last seven seasons, I'm not very convinced since I was very fond of "Fantastic Beasts and where to find them", they chose to cancel that project to embark on this new adventure that is making many turn up their noses, I hope with all my heart that at least this time they will consider Jared Harris for the role of Albus Dumbledore.

Thank you so much anon! That’s so kind of you!

I have seen it, and I was totally a fan growing up. I’m part of the lost generation that had this show airing when we were kids. When I was in late elementary school and early middle school. Setting aside how Butch Hartman has become the J.K. Rowling of Nickelodeon, I quite enjoyed Danny Phantom. I think the show peaked in it’s second season. They were still finding their footing in the first season (I mean, they didn’t even add his logo until the second) and the third season wasn’t really terrible, it was just a strange followup to Season 2.

I enjoy the three protagonists (Though I have my problems with Sam) but I actually think this show’s strongest characters are the recurring ones. Jazz comes to mind, as well as Vlad Plasmius and especially Valerie. Her character had by far the most interesting journey and I’m not ashamed to admit that Danny x Valerie had significantly more development as a relationship than Danny x Sam, which the show loved to tease but I just never got invested in it. Unfortunately, both Valerie and “Grey Ghost” (as I hear it’s called in the fandom) got the shortest end of the stick possible in the finale.

But I don’t think I’m alone in feeling that way. That said, I do have my fair share of unpopular opinions as well. I said before that Season 3 is better than people say, and it is. But I think what hurts it is the tone. The previous season ended with Kindred Spirits (which is simultaneously the best and worst episode in the show) Danny and Vlad doing prank wars just doesn’t feel appropriate all of one episode after Danny killed Vlad’s adoptive son. Seriously, that was the point, I think, that Vlad decided he no longer cared about recruiting Danny, and just wanted to kill him. Season 3 gives us some interesting villains and genuinely good episodes (Amorpho. I friggin love him.) But it also makes Vlad a mainstay and does so in a strangely tone-deaf fashion.

My most controversial take though, is probably going to be that I loved Reign Storm, and hated The Ultimate Enemy. Listen, when I was a kid, TUE was my favorite episode. I was as shook by it as everyone else. I agreed that it was miles better than Reign Storm. But that episode, while it aims lower, tells a cohesive story that I actually care about. Rewatching TUE...it’s a clusterfuck. It’s a mess. It makes absolutely no sense, none of the key plot threads work. I have a whole rant about this if anyone wants to hear it.

In fact, I know everyone hated Phantom Planet, but I’d say that episode was solid compared to TUE. It wasn’t the greatest finale ever, but it got the job done. The best of the season finales is still probably Kindred Spirits, because of Dani’s character and the whole chilling story about that. Though, the stupid “Danny isn’t considerate” subplot really holds it back. Normally the show is pretty good about continuity, I love episodes that feature Jazz and Valerie for this reason. Ah well.

The Fantastic Beasts franchise has never really captured the adulation of the public like the Harry Potter books and films – of which this saga is a loose prequel. The Secrets of Dumbledore may have more connections to the original franchise than the previous two FB films – obviously, we get to spend time with a young wizard Aldus Dumbledore (who was also in the second film) and for the first time the new films touch down (briefly) at Hogwarts Academy.

And yet, for as spectacular as it looks, The Secret of Dumbledore is a bit of a morose, dark and overly complicated mess. There are too many characters, too many situations, and not enough excitement or humor. And it opens with an extended sequence of animal abuse. It is a slight improvement from the second Fantastic Beasts movie, but the promise of the first film seems to have mostly sputtered out by now.

Strangely, though, for a film that has near wall-to-wall magic, there is very little sense of wonder in The Secrets of Dumbledore. These wizards have access to the infinite power of magic wands, and it seems that mostly they use them to shoot at each other like they are laser beams. It seems like kind of a waste.

Therefore the positives of this film tend to get weighed down in the exposition. It is more politically biting than ever and Mads Mikkelsen makes an intriguingly nuanced villain in replacing Johnny Depp as Grindelwald. Also, the story is more upfront about Dumbledore’s homosexuality than ever before. (I wonder if Rowling felt the need to show that open mindedness with the recent scandals about her comments on the trans community.)

First things first – Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore looks spectacular. It is darker, drabber and more colorless than previous Rowling adaptations, but that somewhat fits in with the depression-era totalitarian vibe of the storyline. As with previous films in this universe, the art direction is to die for.

The acting, too, is mostly first rate, although this is not particularly an actor’s film. Unfortunately with so many characters and so much going on, there is not much an actor can do to stand out, although Dan Fogler and Alison Sudol (a.k.a. singer A Fine Frenzy) do have some particularly intriguing moments.

However, for all of the action going on here – and there is a lot – nothing much seems overly original. For example, a scene where Eddie Redmayne’s character is being chased through some catacombs by a giant beast with deadly tentacles seems like it’s been done before – often. And, like I said earlier, the fights in which wizards shoot magic beams at each other with their wands seems like a very unimaginative way of handling the sorcery and the fights.

This is the third film of a proposed five-film franchise, but I’m not going to lie, this almost feels like it’s limping to the finish line. I’m not sure where they are going to go with these stories after this. Hopefully someplace a bit more fantastic.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Heyday Films Production, a David Yates film, “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” in theaters internationally beginning 7 April 2022 and in North America on April 15, 2022. The film will be distributed worldwide in select theaters and IMAX by Warner Bros. Pictures.

ABOUT JAMES NEWTON HOWARD

JAMES NEWTON HOWARD is one of the film industry’s most versatile and honored composers, with a career spanning over thirty-five years and encompassing more than 140 film and television projects. He is a nine-time Oscar nominee, and Emmy and Grammy winner. Howard has also been honored with ASCAP’s prestigious Henry Mancini Award for Lifetime Achievement and the BMI ICON Award.

As a record producer, arranger, and songwriter, he has collaborated with some of pop’s biggest names, including Elton John; Crosby, Stills & Nash; Barbra Streisand; Earth, Wind and Fire; Bob Seger; Rod Stewart; Toto; Glenn Frey; Diana Ross; Carly Simon; Olivia Newton-John; Randy Newman; Rickie Lee Jones; and Chaka Khan.

In 2017, Howard completed his first live concert tour, 3 Decades of Music for Hollywood, visiting 15 European cities, with the premiere being held at Royal Albert Hall.

In addition to his contributions to film and television music, Howard has written a number of concert works. He has written two pieces for the Pacific Symphony: “I Would Plant a Tree,” which debuted in 2009; and his “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra,” which premiered in 2015, featuring renowned violinist James Ehnes. He was also commissioned to write one of the encores for Hilary Hahn’s collection, 27 Pieces: The Hilary Hahn Encores, entitled “133 . . . At Least.” His chamber work entitled “they have just arrived at this new level” was commissioned and premiered in 2018 by the Seattle Chamber Music Society, of which James Ehnes is principal violinist and artistic director. Most recently, his “Concerto for Cello and Orchestra” was premiered with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.
