International Women's Day

Monday 8th March 2021

2021 theme: #ChooseToChallenge

As a woman of Pasifika heritage, I choose to challenge the status quo of the ongoing issues women face:

*Low representation of women in leadership roles

*Social and cultural constructs that contribute to gender inequality

*Gender pay disparity -in the public sector there is currently a 27 percent pay gap between Pasifika women and Palagi men

*Violence against women and girls

I choose to challenge by questioning, speaking up and out, by encouraging, empowering and lifting up other women.

I choose to challenge these issues, for myself but more importantly for the next generation - including my daughter and nieces

Discovering the world: one country a day

Samoa 🇼🇸

Samoa is made up of two islands and located between New Zealand and Hawaii.

The islands have a volcanic origin.

The official languages are English and Samoan, but the latter is more widely spoken.

Samoans are very quiet and do not like yelling.

They take religion very seriously and might throw stones at your car if you drive around when there is a religious service.
