LITERALLY the same argument i was making to myself. there are plenty of very famous and well liked men who have literally never been accused of sexual assault or domestic violence. when people were pulling the race card with majors, i was like. okay. damson idris? he's hot right now. his costar michael b. jordan? he's been famous for decades. and he was a child star. DENZEL WASHINGTON? will smith slapped a guy and though everyone was denouncing him, still no one came forward and accused him of being a sociopath or a rapist or a womanbeater. and people have been ragging on him for a while about being out of touch or being a secret scientologist or whatever. and then there's sidney poitier - who had his own moments of being a dog and treating women poorly in his personal life (being a philanderer and a deserter, namely how his relationship with diahann carroll went) or harry belafonte - who caught flack for divorcing his black wife and then marrying a white woman. both even died and still. nothing. but okay lol

Everything’s gonna be okay (part 2)
Pairing: Scarlett x you
Words: 1429
Warnings: some swearing I think
Summary: after Scarlett’s sickness, you both sit down and talk about your relationship status.
Tumblr media
Three days pass before Scarlett had finally begun to get over her cold. You'd taken care of the entire time, just as you had promised, and other than the sniffles and the occasional itch in the back of her throat, she was somewhat back to her normal self.
You say somewhat, because despite the fact she was feeling better, she still wasn't quite acting like the Scarlett you knew. That reason was pretty self explanatory considering the circumstances, but you couldn't quite find it in yourself to call her out on it because that would be pretty hypocritical of you.
You were treading almost cautious circles around one another, neither one of you wanting to be the one to bring it up first. You knew you'd said you would, but it was easier said than done.
Scarlett was curled up on the couch, bundled up in a thick blanket whilst she watches whatever movie was on the tv. You had taken residence on the opposite side, your phone in your hand as you scroll aimlessly through your social media. It was obvious that neither one of you could find the words you wanted to say, and were using your chosen distractions as a suit of armour.
Your eyes, however, would often flicker over to her, just to be sure she was doing okay. And you would sometimes feel her eyes on you too, telling you your silent implication was reciprocated and that she was feeling the awkwardness too.
It was only as the movie finishes and a commercial begins do you finally find it in you to talk.
"Why'd you do it?" You murmur, locking your phone and setting it down onto your thigh. You hated how meek your voice sounded. It was almost as though you feared her yelling at you all over again.
Scarlett looks over to you, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. It takes only moments for her facial expression to change into one of understanding, and you watch as she hesitates for only a second before sitting herself up and muting the tv, shifting her body around to face you and letting out a quiet sigh.
"I..." she swallows away the tightness in her throat as her hands absentmindedly twist a loose thread of the blanket around her finger. "I was angry." She could barely bring herself to look at you.
You nod, knowing this. You hadn't been able to forget the look of pure hatred on her face as she'd told you to get the fuck out. It was permanently engraved in your brain, and you were sure it would be for the rest of your life.
On that day, Scarlett had been in a bad mood from the second she'd woken up. You didn't know why, and no matter how many times you'd asked, she'd adamantly refused to tell you. It had left you walking on thin ice around her, keeping to yourself and not saying a word in fear you'd say something to make her snap.
Things weren't exactly picture perfect before this day though. For a month prior, her busy schedule had left you little to no time with each other. You went days without seeing her face, kissing her, touching her, and you guess that was the cherry on the cake that made you reach your breaking point.
"Why?" You ask, unsure eyes flickering up to meet her own. "Why'd you get so...mad at me?" You try to keep your voice as unaccusing as possible.
Scarlett bites her bottom lip softly as she lets out a heavy breath through her nose. "I wasn't mad at you," she shakes her head. It was almost as though she was trying to convince herself her as much as she was trying to convince you.
“I was never mad at you. I was mad at everything else. My job. My lack of schedule and personal life. I was mad at the world and I just needed someone to blame. You were just...there, in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was a shitty thing to do and I regretted it the second it happened. I'm so, so sorry."
You stare at her for a second before letting out a quiet sigh, your eyes flickering down to your lap. You didn't know what to say. You weren’t mad at her, at least not anymore. You’d forgiven her almost the second it had happened because deep down you knew she hadn’t meant it. She’d just been stressed and overwhelmed and you’d been the closest target.
"I went out in the rain, after you," she continues unsurely when you don't say anything. The trembling voice, however, does not go amiss, and you feel the tears swimming in your own eyes.  "I looked for you, for over an hour, but you were gone. I called too, but..."
"...but I didn't answer." You finish for her, and Scarlett lets out a quiet breath as she nods her head.
"Yeah." She murmurs hoarsely as she sniffles and clears her throat. "I'm so, so, sorry Y/n."
You knowingly nod your head. It takes you a few seconds for you to find your words.
"What we had together in those last few weeks was not at all healthy,” you start, trying your best to ignore the way you see Scarlett's bottom lip beginning to quiver in your peripheral vision. You hated seeing her upset, especially when it was you who had caused it.
"You took all of your frustrations out on me, even when it wasn't my fault and I tolerated that for a while because I knew you were upset and I didn't want to add to that. But what you should have done is talk to me, or ask me to give you space. I would gladly have done so without hesitation. We were partners, Scarlett, but you didn’t treat me like one.”
A single tear streams down her cheek, and as she wipes it away, more fall in its place, "I know. I'm sorry."
"I don't want you to cry," you murmur, scooting closer and cupping her cheek with your hand. You tenderly wipe away the tears with the pad of your thumb, "and I don't want you to be sorry. You've apologised before, and I forgave you. I just wanted to know why."
Scarlett nods as another tear steams down her cheeks. You press a soft kiss to her hairline before wrapping an arm around her shoulders and pulling her close. Her body was warm against your own, and you hear yer let out a soft sniffle as her head comes to rest on your chest just beneath your chin. You cup the back your your head, the pad of your thumb grazing over the shell of her ear as her own hand tightly clutches the material or your shirt.
"In the future," you start as you lay your cheek against the top of her head, "in the future, you need to communicate with me. You need to tell me what's going on when you’re upset because I can't read your mind."
"Does that mean..." she tightens her arms around your midsection, and you nod as you press your lips against the top of her head. Before the break up, your relationship had pretty much been picture perfect. You rarely argued, communication was healthy and though you didn't get a lot of time together, it meant the time you did get was both cherished and special.
It was only in the last few weeks did that change, so you didn't see why you couldn't try again. You didn't want to waste the two amazing years together over an argument that could very much have been prevented.
That would be a stupid move on your part.
Scarlett buries her face into your neck, the tip of her nose cold against your skin. You instinctively tighten your grasp around her body, hand slipping beneath her shirt to rest against the bare skin of her back.
"I love you," you hear her murmur, and you smile tenderly. You didn't think you'd ever hear those words again.
"I love you."

Thank you guys so much for reading! ✨

The S-Classes That I Raised
Spoilers for Chapter 35 and beyond
I want to preface this by saying I have not read the books so I’m only going by the manwha on my speculation (I’m still debating if I want to spoil myself by reading the books or not).  I could be totally wrong or proven wrong by the book or later issues of the comic but - I enjoy meta and interpersonal relationship studies so that’s what Imma do.
Currently, I am hung up on Yoohyun and Yerim’s interaction during Yoojin’s kidnapping.
Let’s start with Yoohyun.  Yoohyun comes across as self-focused (aside from his attention to his older brother) and often makes snap decisions on his own without asking for input, expecting everyone to follow his lead.  There’s indication that he was a pretty single minded child even before then, setting his eyes on a goal and relentless when it came to going for it.  I think a lot of that is because he’s been on his own, having to make the hard calls and meeting a lot of resistance to him being in leadership for long enough that its kind of baked the traits into him by this point.  I think, for the most part, the people around him expect him to make those calls and lead without their input.
But - I just cannot get over the way he treats Yerim when Yoojin’s been taken.
Obviously, Yoojin being taken is something that’s beyond upsetting to him.  It’s a fear he’s held wrapped around his heart for years now, probably since he realized he could lose someone he loved when his parents died, that his brother will get hurt and he won’t be able to stop it from happening.  It’s a driving force in his life in fact.  And now it’s happened, in a place that he was supposed to have made safe enough for his brother that it would never happen.  He’s got to be terrified and he’s got to be furious.  On top of that he has to know that the clock is ticking and he could either lose his brother - or find his brother dead - for every second he lets slip past that he hasn’t saved him.  He’s been through the fire since he Awakened - but he’s still only barely 20 and Yoojin is his only family and probably his only emotional attachment in this world (and always has been that for him).  He has a perfect storm going on inside him emotionally without a doubt.
And then Yerim storms in, because he called for her, but because she’s found out what’s happened and who else would she go to about this but him?  She’s just as scared as he is, just as angry, just as helpless feeling and she takes it all out on him.
Tumblr media
She’s only 15 and she lays into him with an emotional tsunami, even going so far as to physically grab him, accusing him of not doing enough to protect the person they’re both so emotionally attached to.
There are so many ways he could have reacted to this.
He could have used her as an emotional outlet and yelled right back at her.  They’re not close at this point.  She’s a team member and subordinate to him.  He could have blown her off, telling her she was overstepping.  He could have just ordered her to do what he needed done and expected her to swallow down her anger and do it.  Any of these would have been viable responses and would have fed extra drama into the story.
Instead, he takes it all in and lets her yell at him without deflecting or fighting back and, when she’s done, he answers her questions.  Calm, unaccusing, in detail, making sure she understands how it happened completely.  He never once tries to get her to let go of his shirt (which she hold the entire time he’s talking) and he never tells her her emotions are too loud or that its ‘not the time for them’ or that ‘she wouldn’t understand’ or that they don’t have time.  He takes responsibility and he doesn’t just snap an order and expect her to follow it.
Then, when he’s done, he touches her wrist with his fingertips.  He doesn’t grab it, he doesn’t step away and take the initiative away from her by forcing her to respond.  He touches her in a way that puts no force on her at all, just a non-verbal request and he uses her full title.
Tumblr media
And when he tells her what he needs her to do, he doesn’t soften it or talk down to her like she’s a child.  He just says what needs to be done and he trusts her to be able to handle it (he does this twice with that power in fact).  He says ‘please’ twice.
He also doesn’t try to hid that he’s the reason she has to use her power because that’s the only option he left.
Tumblr media
He’s five years her senior  He’s been doing this for years now and she’s just started.  She’s a teenager and he’s an adult.  And he treats her as if they’re on the exact same wavelength (which they are).
Tumblr media
Look.  Yoohyun has a lot of issues.  A LOT.  He’s absolutely not a people person.  He’s had at least two huge blows to his social development before he even got to adulthood and its indicated that even before that he had a hard time connecting with people.
But this?
This is exceptional leadership.  And yes, Yoojin draws people to him in a much more obvious and outwardly warm and approachable way.  Its his power but its his personality too.  There is no doubt that his found family (and born family) are loyal to him to the point of going feral.
But I totally get why Yoohyun has so many people willing to follow, and back, him, as Guild Leader and how he managed to collect them when he was a nobody kid without a single backer.
I think a great deal of the way he treats Yerim the way he does is because he knows exactly what it feels like to be that young and in that position.  They’ve both had to be on their own against the world as kids.  I don’t know if the story will develop it but I would love to see their interaction and partnership grow.  Fire and ice (and the fact they both have the other’s ‘traits’ for personality) is a great team up and I think they get each other on a level most others won’t.  I’ve love to see more team-ups between them where their abilities and personalities boost the other one.
also - kudos to the comic team for not spelling everything out for us and trusting us to be intelligent enough to pick up on exactly what this
Tumblr media
and then this
Tumblr media
meant in regards to Yoohyun’s methods.

Tagged by @kaiusvnoir to share seven(ish) lines from a WIP! this is from the second draft of The Most Beautiful Puzzle.
cw: panic attack due to PTSD trigger
You expect the heavy rain and thunder. You do not expect something to explode outside, something so big sparks fly past your second story window. You also do not expect Josselin to scream. You jump up, tripping over your blanket as you unravel yourself. But you manage to right yourself before you fall, and you stumble out of your bedroom, gripping your phone tight. Everything is dark. “Josselin?” Nothing. “Josselin!” It takes moments to sprint the rest of the way to his room. Oh, god, were his windows open? Did he get hit by debris? The ‘knock before entering’ rule completely slips your mind. The door is open so you rush inside to see Josselin curled up in a thick blue blanket, sobbing quietly. “Josselin, hey.” You keep your voice soft and gentle and unaccusing, because it’s not like it’s his fault this happened. You take a few steps closer and ask, “Can I sit next to you on the bed?” Josselin’s sobs quickly spiral out of control, and soon, he’s so loud people can probably hear him from the street.

Are you working with nominative-accusative or ergative-absolutive in your conlang?
as a preface, ive never formalized any of the ideas below. im just taking basic thus-far unrelated things ive come up with like word order and verb classes and spitballing as i type this.
core arguments in [conlang] are differentiated through word order. there is no overt marking of core arguments otherwise (however, non-core arguments may take marking some time in the future, i havent decided). the typical structure of a transitive predicate is so:
agent (A) - verb - patient (P)
alignment is typically about what form the sole argument of an intransitive verb takes. for intransitive predicates where the subject is performing the verb, the sole argument (S) sits in the same spot as A in a transitive predicate.
sole argument (S) - verb
we would then in this context consider the language nominative-accusative, because S is behaving similarly to A.
however, there are a class of verbs which are intransitive and semantically passive -- emotion verbs like "to be angry" and nonvolitional verbs like "to fall" or "to be confused/caused confusion". i call these "verbs of experience". because arguments in [conlang] are organized by agency and patiency(word?), S is placed in the same position as P -- after the verb. thus in this context S behaves like P, which is the hallmark of ergative-absolutive alignment.
verb [of experience] - sole argument (S)
thus the language could be considered split-ergative.
it is important to point out here that [conlang] does not allow null subjects. in any construction all core arguments are accounted for either through explicit reference ("THE DOG bit the cat") or dummy pronouns ("IT bit the cat"), and verbs have inherent transitivity built into their semantics (though in the future i might consider a small class of labile verbs). so if you're "missing" a nominal of some sort in the agent slot just before a verb, you already know that the verb is actually a verb of experience.
but again. im spitballing and this is subject to refinement
(there is also something to be said about how terms like unaccusative and unergative fit into this)

I want to be clear, I hate Ben Hope, the things he has done are unaccusable and even if he becomes a better person, it will not make those things okay. But at the same point, I didn't feel as sad for any of the other heartstopper characters, as I did for Ben. He has no one, not even himself, to support him. His internalized homophobia is so deep that after he apologizes to Charlie, he can't even bring himself to go into the art gallery. Who knows where that self-hatred came from, because I can tell you one thing, you aren't born hating yourself. For all we know Ben could have been bullied, like Charlie, or have horrible parents like, Darcy. It's not fair, he's a teenager, he shouldn't have to go through that, no one should. He loved Charlie and then he hurt him. He hurt Charlie because he hated himself. He tore the only supportive person he had out of his life and he was left alone again. Ben Hope has done horrible things and nothing will excuse them, but he has suffered horrible things as well.

Frislandic Verbal Morphology Part 2
OK, let's move onto voice morphology, which kinda follows on nicely as kind of a tag on to stem-formation more generally.
As with most languages, verb roots may be either unmarked transitive or intransitive. However, the language generally lacks ambitransitive verbs, making use of overt voice markers to increase or decrease valency.
Furthermore, Frislandic in general dislikes unergative verbs, preferring basic intransitives to be unaccusative. Thus, for a verb such as sjæ 'burn', the only reading of the bare stem accessible is of an object which is on fire; exclaiming 'it burns!' when you are the person on fire/being burnt is not grammatical Frislandic (excluding varieties that have been influence by languages such as English with looser transitivity constraints).
The first valency-changing operation is the causative, marked by a suffix -l. As with causatives across languages more generally, this is primarily used to derive monotransitive verbs from intransitives, for the simple reason that causativising a transitive does awkward things to the argument structure (we'll discuss how to deal with that below). Thus sjæ 'it burns/is burning' → jæ-l-a 'I set it on fire', me-jæ-l 'it causes me to burn/it burns me'; biz 'they know, understnad, comprehend' (technically an intransitive, but that's for another post) → viz-l-a 'I teach them/cause them to understand'; ikk 'it runs out' → ikk-l-a 'I drain it' and so on.
The second valency-changing operation is the applicative, which is marked by a prefix d-. This raises an oblique argument to core status, but the semantics are somewhat variable. As it is clearly etymologically related to the dative case suffix -ð, it has much of the same semantics, including:
recipients: ke-ð-sa-v 'I give (it) to you' (but note ke-ron-a 'I give to you'; maybe a discussion on the semantics of sa vs. son might make a post someday); am be-d-llang-end 'I am telling you (all)'; ø-ð-akkaðon-sj-a 'I painted him with colours'.
beneficiaries: me-ð-arað-te 'they bore [it] for me'; am ke-ð-keteljan-end 'I'm boiling the kettle for you'; ke-ð-dokkott-sj-a 'I made you a doll'.
maleficiaries: me-ð-kajn-te 'they died on me'; me-ð-sjæ-nd 'it's burning me'; me-ð-ikk-te 'I have run out of/lost it'
associated locations: k-i-ð-makkvæd-a 'I will visit you'; se-d-gwng-end 'They're staying at ours'; ke-ð-mas-sj-a 'I sat([down) by you'.
This form may also take the reflexive possessive to produce the 'autobenefactive' prefix otte-. This appears to be in the process of becoming a reflexive, though other strategies are available (to be discussed in a future post) and there still needs to be some kind of benefactive/malefactive semantics, e.g. not otte-sjiriv-sj-a 'I wrote a note to myself', gængævl, otte-gangav-l! 'physician, heal thyself!'
The final valency-changing operation has been described as variously a passive, mediopassive, middle or impersonal; fundamentally it demotes an agent argument and (with transitive verbs) raises the erstwhile object to subject position. Most basically this is marked with a -t suffix, and remains as such in the 3rd person and in the progressive and indirect (which don't take/replace person inflections).
Gal mijk-et æte zie 'God is worshipped everywhere'
Upp bwl-t-end ge zin-er 'You are being ordered to disperse'
N'usk nesj-t-ið 'the bag (was) split open'
However, it combines idiosyncratically with the 2nd person singular and the 1st/2nd person plural. In the case of the former, the old Grassman's Law rears its head again as the aspiration dissimilation gives -ðek (a rule which must have applied to verb roots too and still is found in some related derivations, e.g. uos 'food' from uok 'eat' + -s (-*tʰ-i), where deaspirated /kʰ/ resultes in a historic /g~ɣ/ which is then lost: see e.g. Kampaj oahs /oa̯ɣs/ [ˈoɐ̯xs] where the velar fricative is retained (dialectal morphology is going to get a separate post or two for sure). With the 1st/2nd person plural, there is an idiosyncratic metathesis of I-r + -t to I-st. We'll come back to the person marking system in more detail in a future post.
These three formatives may be combined, with the (medio)passive following the causative in suffixing order. This ordering reflects the semantics: Frislandic has a morphological passive causative ('be made to X') but not a caustive passive ('cause to/let be X'). Part of this is the general dislike of unergativity, as in many cases a simple caustive serves as the equivalent of a causative passive anyway, e.g. tæ-l can both mean 'let fall/drop' and also 'cause to be dropped/let be dropped', which aren't semantically all that distinct. Specificity can be acheived by a biclausal complementisation strategy with sa, e.g. sa ge tæ 'let it/have it fall' (literally 'put [it] so that it falls') vs. sa ge tæ-t 'let/have it be dropped'.
The applicative interacts with these two forms in more complex ways. This is in part due to is morphological position, not having a defined ordering relative to the causative and passive (being a prefix) and partly because of its complex mix of functions, often not being entirely clear how it fits into the case structure of the sentence. For example, a form such as ke-ð-nab-l-a is potentially ambiguous between 'I make [them] go to you' (a causative of ke-ð-nab 'they go to you') and 'I make [them] go on your behalf/in your place' (an applicative of ∅-nab-l-a 'I make them go'). In this case context is normally sufficient to disambiguate the two functions, but once again the biclausal structure can serve to disambiguate if desired, thus ∅-ra-v ge ke-ð-nab 'I make them go to you' vs. ke-ð-sa-v ge nab 'I made them go on your behalf/in your place'
However, things become especially complicated when it is noted that with transitive verbs a demoted (nominal) agent normally takes the dative case (e.g. ne zott-eð uok-l-a ne kell 'I made the man (zott) eat the fish (kell)'; you can have full glosses when I start talking syntax). By implication, this might be taken to indicate that pronominal demoted agents should take the applicative. In fact this is not usually an issue. The key detail is that with causatives a demoted pronominal transitive subject (of a basic transitive verb) is typically expressed using simply the pronominal prefix, without accompanying applicative. This is generally possible because causativising a verb which already had a prefixed pronominal object is generally dispreferred (in keeping with its primary usage as a transitiviser with intransitives): thus m'uok-l-ek 'you make me eat' (from uok-a 'I eat) is fine, but ?me-luok-el ukkeð 'they make me choose you' (from ke-luok-a 'I choose you'), while notionally possible, would seem off; once again, a biclausal me-ra ge ke-luok-a 'they make me choose you' would be used instead.
As a result, this frees up the form with the applicative prefix to mark a retained applied argument instead of the demoted subject. Thus ke-ð-llang-el [ameð] 'they make [me] talk to you' (as opposed to me-lang-el 'they make me talk'); se-d-bir-el-te [torok] 'they deprived us of [mercy]' (literally 'they caused [mercy] to be missing from us'). And of course a biclausal alternative is available too, e.g. me-ra ge ke-ð-llang-a 'they make me talk to you'; sa-te ge torok se-d-bir 'they deprived us of mercy' (and yes the uses of this complementiser ge are numerous and worthy of their own post too).

Everyone knows The Taste of Armageddon for the end scene, but there are so many cute k/s moments throughout the episode!
Kirk looking at Spock saying ‘the danger exists’
Kirk hungrily watching Spock touch the wall and coerce the guard.
Kirk watching Spock doing the neck pinch on a guard and smiling to himself.
Spock rushing in to help Kirk, looking concerned as heck. Then Kirk grinning back at Spock saying he does need his help.
The way Kirk says ‘we’re human beings’ while looking at Spock.
The way Kirk is grinning wildly at Spock when it’s all over and they’ve contacted the ship.
And of course the end scene where we get the amazing ‘why Mr. Spock, you almost make me believe in miracles’ 😍😍😍
Honourable mention for the way Spock says sincerely and quite unaccusing ‘a feeling is not much to go on’ 💔
Tell me I’m not crazy for seeing this 😅
