Ya got any lgbt headcanons for sonic characters? I'd love to hear them if you do! Or any other fun headcanons you have and just haven't had a chance to doodle yet !! I'd love to know them
Tumblr media
Lgbtq+ headcanons? Well, I have one in particular.
I know this is a RoadTrip doodle, but it goes for how I see Sonic and Shadows relationship in my main retelling universe too. I have this habit of projecting onto Sonic and Tails a tad, so I see him as AroAce (like me >:D).
I'm not really interested in love, or a persons sexuality, so I don't really have too many ships I fawn over. But I did grow up loving Sonadow (and Surgamy seems kinda cute). How I see Sonadow is a bit personal because this genuinely happened to me with one of my best friends. He later confessed that he used to have a crush on me, but got over it once he noticed I wasn't interested in love (stupidly, he noticed this before me), and got over it quickly. We're still friends to this day, and chat daily.
That's how I see Sonadow. Shadow (I see him as Gay, he truly is the Ultimate Gay) realized he had a crush on Sonic, but the blue blur is completely not interested in love. So, Shadow got over it, kept quiet about it, kept being Sonic's rival and friend (he won't admit that), and much later just out of nowhere admits that he used to have feelings for Sonic.
Meanwhile Sonic was completely oblivious to the Alien Hybrid next to him having a Gay arc.
Thank you for the question!

hi, would you be able to help me? i need some big finish audio recs - i loved ringpullworld, and need more for an 8 hour car journey! turlough is my fave companion, and i really want to get into some of 8s stuff, but am up for anything!
eight hours!!! the ultimate Eight roadtrip. i would recommend his following individual episodes:
The Chimes of Midnight, Seasons of Fear, Neverland + Zagreus back to back, The Natural History of Fear, Caerdroia, Time Works, Human Resources, Orbis-
and i’m sure some cheeky bastards will say scherzo or minuet in hell, because they’re great, but they’re a bit intense to be trapped in a car with….. then again, if you run the zagreus double feature, know what you’re getting into.
i would also recommend these box sets!! each has a cohesive arc that spans four anthologies, each containing four audios (16 total), following the same general plot and characters:
Dark Eyes 1+2 will last you the whole trip, and you can listen to the rest on the way back. there’s lots of angst but it’s also very lovely at times, and molly is a very unique companion (Irish volunteer nurse from WWII, strong-willed and brave)
Doom Coalition 1+2 are also extremely good - it’s on the darker side of who but very well written, and liv and helen are WONDERFUL !!!!!
and SPEAKING of liv and helen, my favorite audios of all time might be from Stranded, which they grace our presence in. Stranded 1+2 are my TOP RECOMMENDATION - sorry for making you read the many tantalizing recommendations i put before this.
Stranded is very recent (2021ish) and has a very different tone from the older audios, in a good way. it’s in the title - eight is stuck on earth in this one with liv, helen, and the near-dead TARDIS, and he gets big-time cabin fever. his companions are adult women with fascinating backgrounds, and the people they encounter have incredible lives and secrets. it’s amazing. you agree. reblog.
anyways, i hope you have a super fun and chill drive!!! happy listening 🎵🎶🌄🚗☀️🕶️

I'm not familiar with Audrey from little shop of horrors (though I know the Queen herself). Do you think your tiff varies much from canon? What do you think of her character arc and stuff in the series? (also tiffanica yes)
I accidentally wrote too much so I'm putting a read more
I don't think my view really differs much from canon, but it does differ from the popular fanon interpretation, if that makes sense. I see a lot of complaints that she's not goth anymore, but I feel like people forget that she's really only "goth" in Bride -- after 10 years of mourning and intentionally trying to attract murderers. She's a little bit of a poser! That's okay! She very clearly dreams of domesticity at the same time. (Her little apron, her bathtub, the Martha Stewart worship). She's unable to replicate it partially because of who she is as a person but also because she's stuck in this relationship that's literally and figuratively killing her. Chucky does NOT want the same things she wants.
Tiffany also lives her life as performance, so I think it's hard to get to know the real her. This is super apparent when she's pretending to be Jennifer Tilly (what "tiffany" things did she sacrifice to keep up that act?) But in general, it's always there. (I think she has goth tendencies for real, I do. But I think she plays up aspects of herself depending on the situation.)
That gets into the series. I REALLY liked her arc in Season 1. I was surprised that people were mad at it. I thought the origin of them getting together was nice and fun, and I thought the chiffany breakup plot made sense. (People seem to forget that both Bride and Seed come to the ultimate conclusion that Tiffany is better off without Chucky and should leave him, but whatever.) Obviously I'm a tiffanica stan. Words cannot express the absolute joy at seeing this character who means so much to me express that she's bisexual like me. Oh, I cried.
Chucky is, frankly, abusive to her, and won't change. Nica, by contrast, shows her pity, which Tiffany interprets as love. (It's textbook harley/joker to harley/ivy)
I don't love the amputation, this is known. If you wanna talk about differing from canon, when I talk about tiffanica, I basically pretend it didn't happen. I have talked EXTENSIVELY with bestie kora about a tiffanica situation in which 1. the amputation doesn't happen and 2. nica gets un-possessed (due to some voodoo rules we made up) and the relationship progresses from there. Nica is kind of being held captive and kind of being protected. The blueprint is Beauty and the Beast. 100%. (If you see me talking about tiffanica with relation to "murder roadtrip" or "mr" -- it's that). I understand the reasoning behind it, but ultimately it was a flop moment with too heavy consequences and a poor writing choice.
Season 2, I didn't love in general, and I'm not really sure what to make of it, other than I liked the interactions with Glen and Glenda. I hope going forward into Season 3, she doesn't go crawling back to Chucky. (and I hope there's some homoerotic tiffanica tension. I can dream, okay?)
I could talk At Length about Tiffany in various eras of her life and I loooove to do it because I love her sooooo much. These asks are so fun to get :)

What were your thoughts on jaime when you first started the series? I know for a lot of people, me included, he comes off as a major asshole in agot. And then that all changes in asos. I watched the show first and I still didn’t like the book version of him until his cat chapters in acok and then his in asos.
Well I was a show watcher first (I caught up just before S4 started airing) and in the show I can’t lie he didn’t make a huge impression for me lol. I think he just lacked much gravity onscreen, and D&D low-key spoiled the whole Kingslayer reveal by having Jaime reveal to Robert halfway through S1 that Aerys died crying ‘burn them all’. So by that point you already know what Jaime’s big secret is and that he’ll basically tell anyone who’ll listen lmao, and then there’s the random cousin killing and blah blah blah idk he didn’t seem that grey, just a villain who’d at one point done the only reasonable thing left to do (murder Aerys). By the time I got to the Jaime & Brienne roadtrip I was intrigued, like ok did I miss something is there more to this guy?? but then season 4 wheels around and all momentum is quickly lost in Jaime’s arc.
Then when S4 was over I read the books…. and I remember enjoying all the extra detail but if I’m honest I was studying for my English lit degree at the time and I was constantly having to switch to the dozens of course texts and in the end I think it took me my full three years to read asoiaf lmao and I was so distracted by student life that most of it went over my head lol and I was barely engaging w any kind of fandom at the time so. I just forgot about em
Then. Jaime finally leaves KL in the show and something awakened in me like ‘wait hang on is this arc finally moving again?’ I’d seen around S3 that his story COULD go somewhere interesting but ultimately I’d zoned out because for years the show had sapped all the promise from it. But stupidly I was now thinking hang on they’re finally gonna do something w this character, the promising arc they cut off years ago was moving again!! And suddenly I was excited about Jaime Lannister!!!
Aaaaand then show Jaime falls flat on his fucking face and I thought okay where the fuck did I get the feeling this story was going somewhere bc in hindsight the show has failed him at every turn. Then I reread the books and realised OH I remember THIS is Jaime. and now here I am I guess but basically yeah no I don’t recall any particular first impressions just a… series of impressions

Oh my god I NEVER noticed this? I did remember that JC seemed to basically think well of JGY here, but wow! But also lolsob at JC being the only one going "uh, can't you let him rest for a day or at least give him a first aid kit on his way out the door". AU where JC ran into JGY shortly after this and got him some medicine?
I didn't notice it either until now! I just remembered him being the one to go "wow! MY's so smart and eloquent! :D :D :D" in the scene where MY talks NMJ out of killing XY. It's such a CHOICE, because JC hasn't directly interacted with MY onscreen at this point beyond exchanging greeting. If anyone were going to say something, you'd think it'd be WWX, since he's had a one-on-one interaction with MY and is known for speaking his mind with abandon. But no! It's JC! JC, the model sect heir who deeply cares about conducting himself properly, is confronting a Great Sect leader about his decision!
(NHS also questions NMJ's decision--albeit without mentioning the injury--but that's much less unexpected. NHS and MY seem to be quite close in CQL, and NHS is distraught when MY says goodbye to him--of course he's gonna ask his brother wtf happened there!)
But JC's actions aren't actually not all THAT random, come to think of it, because two episodes before this, JC is the only one in the group to acknowledge the danger that WQ has potentially placed herself in by helping them at Dafan Mountain. WWX and LWJ both badger her for more information about WRH's intentions and become frustrated when she refuses to reveal anything else. As she starts to leave, JC jogs after her and expreses concern that WRH will punish her for helping them. (WQ assures him that her medical knowledge is valuable enough to guarantee her safety.) He's the only one to consider her safety at that point, and certainly the only one to check in with her about it.
So JC respectfully getting in NMJ's face about MY tracks with what we've seen JC do during this little roadtrip arc, and it's painful knowing that JC will eventually fling himself recklessly into harm's way out of his concern for WWX, and will ultimately be forced to quash all his individual ethical qualms in favor of protecting his sect. BUT ON A LIGHTER NOTE, it's the groundwork for some DELIGHTFUL canon divergence, because CQL firmly establishes that the quickest way to MY's heart is to defend him in public.

just wanna say: stemkoo + yoongs redemption arc. yoongi finally acknowledging jungkook as a love interest to oc and accepting it and jungkooks kinda confused because what now? is he safe alone with yoongi? are they brothers? and yoongis just "yeah kid you're here now and I see you but I'd still give you a knuckle sandwich anytime if u even breath wrong next to my baby soulmate"
Tumblr media
cold senior!y/n x stem major!koo masterlist :D
stem koo has a breakdown over driving alone for the first time, and it just so happens that yoongi's the only one there for him. alternatively, it's koo and yoongs' redemption arc :-)
warnings: mention and descriptions of a panic attack
jungkook will not cry
not right here, in an emergency bay that's just five meters away from a bustling gas station where there's a convenience store and a couple of food chains and cafés he can go to in order to clear his head
not right now, in his brand-new car that his parents excitedly bought for him once they caught the news that he's already obtained his driver's license. he's admittedly already used to a lofty lifestyle, but somehow guilt settled in when he remembers telling his parents at night, and the next morning, his dad's calling him to come out of his dorm to see such a big purchase they didn't think twice in buying
jungkook already drove before. countless of times!!
tried it the first three times in his hometown with his dad on the front seat and his mom at the back, a little amused yet more frantic because this is perhaps the most frustrated state he's put his parents in
he's also took 30 hours in driving lessons during break and the happiest that he's been during the whole time is the part wherein he gets home by foot, relieved that he doesn't have to shared a confined space with his instructor that's far too chatty and intimidating at the same time
most importantly, jungkook drove endlessly and ultimately learned from you, jin, and yoongi!! he remembered mentioning in passing that he doesn't have a driver's license yet and he could distinctly remembering the three of you arguing about who'd teach him first
of course it was you whom he picked first, and it became a driving lesson that racked immense pressure and comfort from him
you taught him how to properly control his gas and brakes and then did jungkook only learn that he's a little too heavy-footed with the pedals, mistakenly thinking that he should press his wHOLE foot instead of just atleast a fourth of it
he learned how to accelerate without making the car jump and brake without making a god-awful screech!! also learned how to pull up the handbrake with ease because his wrist's too tensioned the first time around
seokjin taught him how to turn and park smoothly. how to actually command the wheel without his hands getting wrung and just nailing commando with like tHREE maneuvers max!!! max!!!
also jin taught him (reluctantly) how to reverse while looking back and holding headrest of the front seat bc jungkook read from somewhere that people apparently (read: you) find it attractive
and well... yoongi?
yoongi taught him everything
jungkook was a lil scared when he realized that it was yoongi's turn to teach him, but surprisingly, and uh well nO offense to his parents and instructor and girlfriend and girlfriend's friend,, but yoongi is the best teacher he's ever had
he taught him how to actually drive-drive if that's supposed to explain everything
he taught him how to not grip the steering wheel a little too tight and heavy. to be relaxed enough that he drives his car and not the other way around, but not too relaxed that the car feels too light in his command
yoongi taught him how to overtake and counterflow when necessary and how not to be a push-over and let every car pass even if it's him who has the right of way
jungkook was taught how to not squirm and be shy with honking because it's literally tHERE to be used!! yoongi taught him not to cower when there's a huge 4x4 with the truck horn that's aiming to squeeze in between lanes and just drive like normal
he learned how he shouldn't trust the mirrors at all times because it's not the accurate depiction of how far he is from backing into a tree and instead, open the window to see it for himself
yoongi taught him about the gearbox so eASILY that jungkook almost cried in realization that he finally managed to comprehend it fully without feeling the need to search in between stops
...
yes, jungkook did drive countless of times.
but this is the first time ever that jungkook drove alone and by himself; no company at all to tell him how he's going a little too fast or a little too near to the vehicle in front of him
he's alone. driving. in his own car. and now he's parked by himself near the gas station and the radio's playing a little too loud.
in second thought?
jungkook will cry
you're not there to console him as soon as you see his bottom lip tremble and his eyes freeze because you're someplace else
you're on a road trip with seokjin because it's his niece's first birthday and his whole extended family would be there and he doesn't know if he can actually handle that by himself ://
his family already knows you anyway and they're awarE of how their own relatives could be so now jin's immediate kim family is relying on you to be also their breather <3
the whole reason that jungkook decided to go onto this mini roadtrip by himself in the first place was to surprise you!!
he heard you over movie night once that you wanted to try these famous donuts from this shop that's an hour and a half drive away, and from your descriptions alone, yoongi and jin aND jungkook decided that they also wanted to try
and kook's just being a loving boyfriend and friend (?) that he made the collective decision that while you and jin were out, while yoongi's in the dorm — he's driving by himself for an hour and a half to get the donuts
but no, he hasn't even reached the donut place yet because he's an hour away still
he suddenly felt that his legs froze and he couldn't move at all because he realized that he's holding a wheel in his hands and the consciousness of it all makes his eyes widen, feeling the smooth leather go heavy within a blink
it was his sudden fear that the car's driving him and he doesn't have any control of it even if he has the means to do so, his mind too far in that he swerves to the right-most lane without his blinkers on and without checking his side mirrors
and even more concerningly, jungkook's still thinking about donuts even if he's in a state in which he's feeling a little dizzy and his chest is tight, having trouble breathing with his tummy aching that he feels he want to throw up
he can't think nor breathe straight and it physically pains him, the only thing registering in his hazy mind being his phone, the lockscreen that's set to you being the first thing that greets him
his fingers tremble as they move on their own and he doesn't realize it, only being jolted when his phone silently rings on his palm because even he doesn't know how nor whom he called
he's already removed his glasses to rub his eyes but they just blearily ache when he tries to see the name on his phone, his eyesight being blurred by the tears he's trying to keep at bay
jungkook's phone stops ringing until it finally connects, pressing his phone to his ear as confused as he is because he can't even remember who he called
"hello? why are you calling me, kid?"
it's yoongi.
jungkook breathes a sigh of relief that of all the people he's accidentally called — it's yoongi
he immediately welcomes the gruff voice, a sob racking through his entire body that he didn't even realize he was holding back
"y-yoongi! oh my god, yoongi! i-it's you!"
yoongi was merely napping when he felt his phone ring beside his pillow, an unfamiliar ringtone reaching his ears that he felt compelled to check it
his tone couldn't have been more abrupt but it's greeted nothing but warmly, the voice from the other side of the line making him focus concentratedly
jungkook greets him so eagerly and panickedly that it worries him, the large gulp of air convincing him that it's not just his airconditioner that's turned all the way up
"what happened to you? are you okay?"
jungkook whimpers at the question, stuttering over words that haven't even formed as he looks frantically left and right to see if his spot at the emergency bay is bothering anyone
there isn't anyone approaching him and-
"h-hazard! i-i need the hazard on."
all the red he's seeing reminds him of his hazard lights, remembering your words to keep them on if you're a potential hazard on the road
yoongi's remaining sleepiness dissipates as his eyebrows knot, overwhelmingly alert as he stands up from bed and find a shirt to put on before he even knows what's going on
"hazard?" he parrots, trying to see if he's slept through some urgent texts from any of you that could make him put the pieces together. "i need you to calm down for me, jungkook."
jungkook's busy eyes snap in one place at the mention of his name, blinking owlishly at the recognition of what yoongi's saying
"i-i forgot how to drive. the wheel — the wheel b-became too heavy on my hands," he stammers, looking at the circle that's in front of him that feels and now looks foreign to him. "i-i drove alone because-"
yoongi's heart pangs at the observation that jungkook's voice is breaking and desperate, turning off his fan before he scurries outside his bedroom and double-checks to turn off everything
"yeah, jungkook? come one, you can do it. you drove alone because?"
he once again affirms jungkook by reminding him of his own name to try and ground him, slipping on his shoes with a vague outline of a plan in his mind
"donuts. i-i heard — y-you all wanted these donuts and the uhm, t-the three of you had a bad day last week, right? i-i think. i'm not over there and you're the only who's home and i-i figured that-" his voice gives out at the end, unable to keep his tears from falling at this point. "help, hyung."
yoongi blinks once, twice, before he finds his voice
"i'm still proud of you, jungkook. good job," he rummages through the bowl of money the three of you drop your change into, dumping the entirety of it as he hopes it's enough to tip the cab driver he's gonna tell to drive as fast as he could. "now can you tell me what you see? can you tell me where you are? where you're parked? hyung will help you."
...
......
it takes yoongi a total of fifteen minutes to reach jungkook at the emergency bay by the side of the road.
his car's pristine and intact and it calms him to no end, immediately calling jungkook to tell him he's there so he wouldn't have to startle him with a knock
yoongi enters the driver's seat and his eyes immediately whip to jungkook who's already transferred to the passenger seat, his face teary and blotchy as he shakily grins at him through it all
"hyu — yoongi! h-hi!! oh my god, you're here."
he nods and softly smiles, adjusting the seat to accommodate his preferences that it makes kook put his seatbelt out of reflex
he's beyond happy to have another person in the car with him, enough to make him feel surrounded and reassured that he can't hear his breathing echoing in his vehicle
he's already mostly regained his breath but it picks up when yoongi doesn't drive straightly like what he thought he would — instead, yoongi drives five meters ahead and turns to the gas station, wordlessly finding a parking spot
"... b-but the donuts. y-you guys wanted the donuts, right?"
he purses his lips at the inquiry, shaking his head somberly
he can't even begin to gRASP why after all this, he's still focused on the donuts that he meant to get for the three of you — still beyond desperate to secure what was meant to cheer everyone up despite having gone through a new driver's version of hell
"how about we grab a bite first and then we could get the donuts after? my treat."
jungkook was about to politely say no and apologize for imposing, the words being caught on his mouth when yoongi reverses into a parking spot swiftly and gets out of the car before he can put a word in, already having him opening the door on his side
he looks up at him as if he's seen a ghost, a slow tick of a minute on his mind reminding him that yoongi's here for him
yoongi looks down to see the younger guy that still looks very much like what he's been through just minutes ago, making him spring into action
he wordlessly combs his hand through his hair like he does with you when you have a fever and cannot be bothered to keep up with appearances, pushing it back neatly
he grabs jungkook's glasses that are muddled with dried tears and fingerprints from the console, cleaning it with the end of his shirt before handing it back to him
"bite first, then we'll get donuts. i promise."
oh my god
is he having an out of body experience
jungkook can walk but he doesn't feel like it because now his steps are toO light, feeling as if he's gliding through air with ease
he follows yoongi's shadow and stares at the back of his head, the newly-dyed pink of it gleaming underneath the morning sun that he tries to focus on it instead of his raging thoughts
yoongi walks into a serene café that's only the calming kind of busy; people here and there in their own conversations, blenders humming and silverware clinking
it's not until yoongi tells jungkook to pick a spot as he lines up to order that it trulY hits him what's happening, picking the comfiest spot his eyes laid on
there's no build-up to the moment because unlike their previous interactions where it's only the two of them, there's no score in the background.
there's no tension nor ill intent and the only thing that's there between them is a comfortable silence, one that jungkook's insistent to break this one time
"i-i'm sorry i called you. you were probably busy. i didn't know what i was doing and-"
"no," he cuts him off, sheepishly putting a hand on his nape. "i called you, jungkook."
"huh?" he couldn't hold back the audible surprise that left him, making him backtrack instead of continuing his sentence
yoongi thinks that the truth wouldn't hurt, leaning to his chair as he relaxed to put the guy across him at ease somehow
"you did call me, but you dropped it in less than two seconds," he admits, drumming his fingers on the armrest. "i called you back."
jungkook visibly awes at that, head tilting as the confusion he has in his head doubles over and starts crawling on four limbs
"w-why did you that?"
was that it?
was that why he felt so confused when he could barely see a caller ID? it was ringing out for him to answer and not the other way around
yoongi's the one perplexed this time but he doesn't blame him, answering sincerely
"because i look out for you too."
there's a pregnant pause between them and yoongi could clearly see the way jungkook's shoulders slump, making him lean forward out of instinct because he thought he was gonna break down again
"i'm sorry," he looks up at him with glassy eyes, wide but not threatening to cry out of despair. "i'm sorry, yoongi."
he knows by that tone that jungkook's not talking about the call anymore, making him raise his hand to wave it off lightly
"we don't have to do this right now, kook. the both of us probably haven't even had breakfast yet."
the much-awaited talk between them has been set far enough for the perfect timing but the bulk of everything just points to now, only getting more strengthened when jungkook breaks the silence again. "but i mean it."
"i was so stupid back then and i didn't know how much i hurt you through y/n," he reflects back to how distraught and angry yoongi looked at him, not to mention the fact that seokjin told him how yoongi didn't sleep at all for a week because of how he was kept up just thinking and trying to protect you. "i-i know it must've hurt to see your soulmate hurt because of me and that she forgave me still. a-and made me her boyfriend, even."
his mouth dries because the younger boy recites his previous heartaches almost word per word, taking his time to digest each one
"i did hurt, jungkook."
there's no denying that. no cover-up of jin as he tries to boost everyone up can ever hide that. no lies to how tae, who barely even knows yoongi, felt his chest tighten when he came over one morning to deliver the cookies and see yoongi sitting outside your door with his ear pressed to it — trying to hear if you were crying while holds his own.
there's no denying either the truth that reflects why exactly yoongi made a cab driver break almost every traffic law to man just to get to jungkook faster.
"but y/n's not hurting anymore — i'm not hurting anymore," he enunciates. "i'm not mad at you anymore, jungkook."
the guy in question looks alarmed, sheepish even at the words he's been wanting to hear but couldn't believe now that they're being uttered
"you should be."
yoongi snorts because jungkook reminds him of you so so much, an uncanny resemblance between the guilt you've always tried to live with before trying to acquit
"i'll hold it over your head if it makes you sleep at night or remind you when you decide to act up again," he chuckles but he's met with jungkook's frantic no's, waving him off when he realizes that his egging's truly working. "but i don't have it in me to be mad at you for any longer."
it's the truth. it's the truth that yoongi always tried to refute because for the past weeks, all he's done is try to find the most miniscule flaw to try and make him hate jungkook
he's only thought once in his lifetime that he'd ever forgive jungkook, but now did it become crystal clear
"you've proved yourself enough, even jin said so," he admits humbly. "but i know you're not doing all of this to prove yourself to us or to me, kook."
he looks up at from his hands to train his gaze on his girlfriend's soulmate, listening attentively
"i know you do it from the heart."
he feels like crying but only this time is it for an entirely different and positive reason, a leap on his chest heightening tenfold
"as much as you rely on y/n — you can also rely on me too, jungkook."
the two of them hold eye contact and neither of them shy away from it, a silent fact in the air as they know that it's not only you who's linking them at this point, but rather because they're somewhat brothers at this point
"i forgive you."
"y-you forgive me?"
he feels his ears ringing in happiness as he tries to dodge the waiter who's blocking his view of yoongi with the way he's putting down the meals, frantically looking for confirmation
yoongi finds it cute, laughing as he throws his head back
"you're the one who does the quizbees. why are you making me spell it out?"
then he knows.
"you forgive me," he parrots, repeating it once more to himself
the two of them eat throughout thoughtful conversation, stemming from the inquiry of how yoongi made a thirty-minute drive into only half of it, until it bloomed to how kook claims to be forgetful but remembers a whisper about bread from a week ago
"tell me if you want to try and drive to the donut place," yoongi turns to him as he settles the bill, watching jungkook finish the last of his food as he throws him a sheepish smile — much like how you do
"i'll be watching over you, koo. don't worry."

JayKyle, RoseCass, Talia x Shiva?
1) JayKyle is something that, potentially, could be good (for me; shippers are good with what it is I assume) IF you retain their antagonism. If they don't hate* each other at the start if it, then what's the point?
Sure, there are all those AU where they're childhood friends or Jason as a Lantern or Modern AUs but it's missing the JayKyle factor: them being low-key jealous of each other and wanting the other one to notice them back without realising it.
*oversimplification
There's also a fact that fandom sometimes uses JayKyle in order to give Jason a non-objectionable male SO (who's not Roy Harper bc haven't you heard that Roy is Dick's friend?). I'm not saying all JayKyle fans do that but I have seen enough posts that go "ugh if you need to ship Jason with someone, do it with, idk, Kyle" and it's pretty much a turn off
Tl;dr has a potential, but the execution, in general, is lacking
2) RoseCass
I was gonna say: "don't believe in it" but then I remember
- Cass's first crush was International terrorist. And, okay, you can interpret it however you want, but Black Wind was something to her, something huge (and forgotten pretty much after his arrest so not that huge; but huge when it happened - and clearly it never happened before). Comparatively, is Ravager being a crush that much of a stretch?
- the cursed "evil Cass" arc that ended with Cass legit wanting to kill Slade. If anyone would understand and help, it's Rose. Look. Look. This story is writing itself. As soon as I am less depressed, I am going to take the worst Batgirl arc and one of the most boring TT03 plots with Titans East, and I am going to rewrite the ending with RoseCass epic roadtrip to hunt down Slade.
It doesn't necessarily end up with Cass, or Rose, murdering Slade, because ultimately, it's a story about reinventing yourself. But they will kiss, I promise you that.
Tl;dr I can believe in it but under specific circumstances.
3) Talia x Shiva. It's very aesthetic pairing for me. Two beautiful, competent, complicated women, it should work, and yet. For me, there's just not enough drama.
Don't get me wrong, each of them has a lot of drama on their own, but it's not a complimentary drama, you know?
You (by "you" I mean, me) need an AU for it to work. For example, Sandra, Talia, Richard, Bruce and, maybe, David, all students in the same dojo. Or, Talia recruited Shiva to take back Leviathan.
Or, they're both live in suburbs: Shiva never wanted kids but had one, because her asshole ex, which she never seen again after the divorce - and now she has to help her partner, Talia, deal with custody war over the child Talia wanted very, very, very much and yet weren't able to keep. Bonus angst points if meanwhile, Talia is fostering a local teen, and Sandra's biological daughter found her after running away from her abusive father. Just to add to the mess.
This one would be much, much less about romance and more about marriage and parenthood.
Tl;dr beautiful but needs a lot of work

We ask you a lot about what series/shows/movies did wrong, but what are some scenes or moments that you are like "yes! That was done right!"? It can be from anything, but I'd love to also hear about places where things are done right.
It all depends on what you mean. Let's see:
In terms of redemption arcs and flawed protagonists, All Dogs Go to Heaven is one example we like.
Bojack Horseman is the same and there's a TON of other things it did well, such as the cycle of abuse and how abuse doesn't excuse your actions and asexual representation. The list goes on.
In terms of animal fiction: Watership Down and The Animals of Farthing Wood nail immersion and anthropromorphism mixed together.
When Marnie Was There is a movie we enjoy for varying reasons. Cat feels it's a healthy, cute depiction of two girls being gay if you ignore the last ten minutes. I feel it's a nice representation of childhood depression and isolation. Also, this movie is freaking BEAUTIFUL. I just feel at peace watching it.
Wolf Children is an example of family ties and growing up, with the shapeshifting intertwined nicely in it all.
Beauty and the Beast is one where people tried to repeat its tropes to DEATH and failed miserably, right down to its live-action remake. Yeah, just watch the original movie. It got everything right a lot of the time. lol
The Iron Giant and Lilo and Stitch are examples of quirky kid protagonists that worked. The latter also dealt with the effects of trauma on a young child and her sibling and did it in a sensitive and loving way.
To go off on that: Infinity Train also tackled an array of issues that children deal with (trauma, divorce and so on) and showed characters not accepting what's only ever expected of them. Redemption and also no redemption.
A Goofy Movie really nailed father-son relationships and single parent issues too. Just relationships with your child in general. Kudos to them for hinting at abusive relationships and how damaging they are to children as well when it came to Pete and PJ and Pete's 'under your thumb' approach. Like respect vs. fear. And they did it without even saying they did it too, which is really nice for a Disney movie.
A Goofy Movie was just terrifically done in the essence that there is no real antagonist (tho Pete and the principal come close - fuck those guys) and, while you initially side with Max as a child because his uncool dad is crashing his style, you grow up and really sympathise with Goofy's situation too. Realising that you don't really know your kid and he could be mixed up in some heinous shit would cause any parent to act like he does. It's really one of those movies where you can have more than one perspective and, while it gives me real bad 90's vibes, I really think it's timeless in its themes and delivery.
We talked about Finding Nemo briefly a few weeks back. The relationship between a concerned parent and disabled child was handled great. Somebody brought that up and I hardcore agree with them.
AND NOW FOR THE ADULT MOVIES SECTION
I've also talked about movies like Single White Female, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle and so on: here
Bound is not only good sapphic representation, featuring a bisexual woman and a lesbian, but it's got a proactive and smart butch lesbian and they're shown actually supporting each other and making a really good team. Plus its got like. The perfect ending.
Thelma & Louise is good for starting out as a roadtrip comedy between two jaded wives taking a vacation away from their husbands, but then it quickly turns dark and they end up on the run from the law.
Jennifer's Body, gay as fuck, but also a really entertaining dark comedy horror that ultimately got messed up by the awful advertising.
Carol and Fried Green Tomatoes are good too
Annhilation is underrated in how it not only has all female-leads, but in how it explores the philosophy of self-destruction and the complexities of depression.
It's not inherently sapphic even tho one of the leads is a lesbian.
Also: Gia
Perfect Blue is a great psychological thriller that just nails everything that comes with that genre. And, even while it's about a semi popular celebrity changing her career path and people reacting badly to it, I think a lot of people who use the internet and have people who feel entitled to them simple for orbiting in the same circles can relate to a lot of elements that the protagonist goes through.
Felidae is also a well-written example of human emotions and complexities being applied to animals and it critiques such things at the same time.
Please note that we've tagged the above movies as ADULT for a reason. They can contain distressing and disturbing content. Please view with caution. Thank you. c:

So the other side of the coin is Power Rangers, the book that focuses on the Omega Rangers’ adventures, picking up right off of Necessary Evil.  I will say right off the bat that them separating the Omegas into (mostly) their own book was definitely the right choice after NE basically sucked away the SCT’s screentime in favor of the Omegas (which then the relaunch canceled out by introducing even more original characters in MM, but whatever).  A lot of people were asking them to just break the teams into two books, and they did, so props for that.
So.  Like Mighty Morphin, a lot happens.  Let’s talk about it (and again, spoiler warning, obviously)
A brief rundown of events: The Omegas run into an Empyreal that kicks their asses.  They steal Drakkon since apparently he’ll be helpful somehow.  They roadtrip to various places like Drakkon’s prison dimension, Onyx, Hartunia, and finally Yellow Emissary’s planet.  Surprisingly, Drakkon betrays them and the Empyreals kill Yellow.  Yale the alien tiger becomes the new Omega Blue and saves them.  Tommy calls them to Earth where they fight the Eltarians.  Then they go back to Safehaven.  Then they go back to Earth.  When the Empyreals start to die Blue is released and forms the Omega Ultrazord.  Drakkon shows up with space vampires, then bails.  Blue leaves to find the Morphin Masters because literally there’s no reason for him to be alive right now.  The end (for now).
I’ll start with positives again.  After tearing Mighty Morphin apart for not giving the rangers enough time in the spotlight, to contrast, Power Rangers is all about the Omegas (admittedly it helps that there are less characters fighting for focus here).  The way the stories were structured basically felt like episodes of a TV show; they’d spend about two issues on a different location (Ryan himself compared the structure to The Mandalorian) and I think it was a decent way of going about it, since the whole gimmick with the Omegas is traveling through space.  Each Omega felt like they had a turn at being the “main character” of an “episode” which helped keep things balanced, development-wise.  Yale’s focus issue was a lot more enjoyable than Matt’s, because Yale is cute and his story genuinely more emotional.  There was that one arc of Zack and Arkon where Zack wasn’t spouting jokes every panel.  That was nice.
HOWEVER.  This focus on character may be a positive, but it’s also is to its detriment, because imo the Omegas’ character focus can get extremely frustrating.
I’ve said this entire time that my biggest problem with the Omega Rangers is they’re held on this weird pedestal of being the “next level” of the MMPRs, saviors of the universe instead of just one planet, despite them making harmful choices that hurt their loved ones and not being able to complete a mission on their own without outside help.
This event did nothing but affirm that.  Times like.  One Hundred.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Throughout the entirety of Power Rangers the Omegas are questioned on the morality of their actions.  Do their ends justify the means?  They hurt so many people on this quest of theirs; they lie to their friends and betray their trust by immediately stealing Drakkon after not even a day of negotiating.  They break a known Ranger murderer Astronema out of jail, which causes the death of an SPD officer.  The ultimate climax of Drakkon leading them to the Yellow Emissary led to his death and the rise of the last Empyreal.  And then there’s the underlying foundation that they caused the Empyreals to rise in the first place thanks to what happened with Kiya.
So was all the pain and suffering they caused worth it?  Are they still worthy of being called saviors?
The answer?  Yes :)
Tumblr media
Blue refers to what they do as “mistakes” and it’s like.  You can’t call something simple “mistakes” if it led to innocents’ deaths.  Them almost dying because of their harmful decisions is not the same as choosing to sacrifice themselves to make up for what happened or something.  Zordon almost dying because he chose to stand for Earth and Zartus destroying his tube for it is an example of someone dying for their heroics, not all of this.
After this Blue tells them “they don’t need a mentor” and it’s like.  Why?  Why not?  How did this mission in any way prove they’re so good at being heroes by themselves?  Literally none of their victories came from them.  The closest we got was them saving those Harturian refugees, but it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the bigger events in the story. Drakkon gets the part they need to get off of Onyx.  Arkon and Yale save them from Yellow’s dying planet (and PR #16 reveals Drakkon left Xi’s transporter with them on purpose so they could be detected).  Blue was revived by Tommy and Matt destroying his Empyreal.  Drakkon weakens the Super Empyreal with the Horrid.  Blue combined their zords into the Omega Ultrazord and killed the Super Empyreal.  They don’t contribute anything particularly important to the story overall; the information on the Empyreals and Zartus that Yellow Emissary gives them was information the MMPRs already knew thanks to Candice.
And this unfortunately sours the entirety of Power Rangers as a book for me, because it’s nothing but an exercise in frustration waiting for the Omegas to finally have some self-realization about what they do and learn from that, but they never do.  The narrative just continues to reward them or brush off any criticisms.  There isn’t even any sort of acknowledgment that Drakkon’s now running around in the universe unsupervised with his powers!!!!!!!  He’s kind of good now maybe for some reason so I guess it’s fine!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
And it wouldn’t be so frustrating to me if the idea of gray morality wasn’t pushed so hard in so many of Ryan’s stories.  You can’t praise these comics for giving the rangers more depth and exploring all sides of them if you ultimately judge the Omegas’ actions as being nothing but good and for the best.  Because that’s the exact opposite of making the writing deeper; it’s jumping back into the shallow end after dipping your toe in the deep end.  The book doesn’t end with a lesson learned other than “the Omegas are so great and everything they do is right, no matter what” which SUCKS after dealing with Mighty Morphin’s handle on morality being “Zordon was bad to be mad at Billy for stealing his stuff” and “Tommy only dislikes Matt because he’s jealous”
Though on the subject of Drakkon, I still maintain he’s the most entertaining character here because we’re actually allowed to embrace his doucheness but you can absolutely tell he’s only around because they want to use him to pump up sales, and that sucks.  Believe it or not I do think a redemption (or at least a “softening”) of him could work, but the fact that it’s tied to the Omegas instead of, you know, letting him go back to his own dimension and face the repercussions there kills it for me for honestly no reason other than I don’t want his story to be continuously tied to the Omegas.  I really just.  Want him and the Coinless back together klskjflsl (also when and how did he make a pit stop on Onyx when he was traveling back to Earth while stuck on a fucking COMET???????????)
Yale you guys already know my grievances with.  I can’t dislike them as a character because they’re literally just the team pet so there’s nothing hatable about them, but I still can’t like the concept of them being a ranger because of how it came about through the demonization of Kiya, and I don’t know what exactly they’ll add to the dynamic since they’re......the team pet.  Right now they’re just like Bronx from Gargoyles - obviously part of the family, but not so much a character as just an extra body to fight with and look cute.  I will say though their inclusion in the beginning is very choppy.  They weren’t around at all in the last couple issues of MMPR, but then they’re suddenly in the ship with them in the first issue of Power Rangers without any real explanation.  It just lends to the general critique of Ryan’s writing that This Has To Happen Now - Yale’s going to be the new Blue Ranger, so they’re just on the ship now.  Don’t worry about it.
The Empyreals were the main villains of this side of the books and i’m just gonna come out and say it: they’re boring at best and extremely confusing in concept at worst.  The book explains them as basically being the “dark halves” of the Emissaries, but there’s no real explanation of what that means or why they even exist.  The Emissaries don’t create life, so why is their dark opposites’ mission to destroy life?  How do giant spider monsters relate to continuously shifting Power Ranger suits?
Tumblr media
Even more confusing is how Zartus summons and controls them with a “celestial shard,” something that is never elaborated on or even explained where he got in the first place.  It’s just a random MacGuffin that exists for the sake of having one.  It’s like they were trying to recreate the Chaos Crystal concept while forgetting the Chaos Crystal had established origins and rules (origins and rules that admittedly were not elaborated on beyond “it’s a crystallized piece of the Morphin Grid that only runs on chaos energy” but that’s at least more than the Celestial Shard got).  In general it comes off like their development was made up as they went along - they’re the Emissaries’ dark halves that appear when the Emissaries die!  But oh, Zartus has the thing that summons and controls them, whatever that is!  Blue Emissary is revived when his Empyreal dies, which honestly makes some sense.  But then Red and Yellow aren’t revived, for......unknown reasons.  I know Blue going to find the Morphin Masters to figure out what the hell just happened is the next part of the story, but it still just feels very random.  It makes me laugh a little bit going back in old posts when we were theorizing that the Empyreals were inter-dimensional monsters that feed on the Morphin Grid, because it’s such a simpler explanation than what we ended up getting.
I think the “episodes” themselves were fine concepts; you could tell Ryan was having a lot of fun thinking up the different alien species and how the Omegas work with different alien worlds.  But I guess overall the main problem was I was waiting for an epiphany that ultimately never came, for real repercussions, and rereading it is kind of hard because we have to watch the Omegas do all these awful things and act like it’s justified, even though they won’t do much to actually help in the end.  Especially since the book, again, is not at all subtle about what they’re doing here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe I expected too much out of it, because obviously they’re going to want to keep the Omegas heroes so the book would continue, but at the same time was it really expecting too much to have the Omegas face the reality of what they did a little more than just “you did your best, and that’s what counts”

Hi! I want to watch Ben10 bc of your AWESOME blog but they're so many and I don't know what order to watch them in? If you could help me that'd be great!
There is quite a bit of content for Ben 10, so that is understandable, haha. Thankfully, most wikis for the series is are well organized, and I would recommend searching through those if you're lost. Ben 10 itself has five series of it, four of which are part of the same continuity. Ben 10 Original Series, which is the first Ben 10 series that started the whole thing, being aired on December 27th, 2005. This focuses on Ben when he first gets the watch, is ten years old, and is on a roadtrip. This also had three movies/specials, being the Secret Of The Omnitrix, a live action one called Race Against Time, and eventually got one much later on called Destroy All Aliens, which is a cartoon CGI film. Ben 10 Alien Force, which is a series time skip after the first one ended, now taking place when Ben is 15, and for the rest of the original continuity we focus on a teenage Ben. Alien Force focuses on on Ben learning to lead, pulling together a team, as he uncovers an alien invasion going on across the galaxy. This one also had a live action film called Alien Swarm. Ben 10 Ultimate Alien, which is set right after Alien Force, the main idea behind it being that Ben now has a new watch that gives him ultimate forms, basically making his aliens either having new powers, or stronger. This part of the series starts off with Ben having to face a new villain named Aggregor, while dealing with his new watch. This version of the series also had a crossover with Generator Rex. Ben 10 Omniverse, which is set right after Ultimate Alien, and had one of the biggest art changes for the original Ben 10. Omniverse has the most arcs and stories, each very different to one another. One of the first storylines is about a rogue Mechamorph named Malware, and about Ben learning to work with a new partner named Rook. This version of the series also had a crossover with The Secret Saturdays. Ben 10 Reboot, which is it's own thing ever since the original continuity ended. The reboot retakes the idea of making Ben a ten year old, and going on a road trip, but changes things up enough to be it's own thing. It had three specials, one about an older Ben meeting his younger self, another Generator Rex crossover, and then one about all versions of Ben meeting up with each other. It also got a movie called Versus the Universe. That is the Ben 10 series in order, and for new comers I tend to suggest watching from the start. However, a good thing to also keep in mind is that despite them all being Ben 10, each version of the series is quite different to one another, even ones that share the same world. The original was a mix of comedic, light hearted fun, action and some serious moments. Alien Force for a while took the approach of making the characters mature and more serious, though by the third season Cartoon Network stepped in and caused a tone whiplash by trying to be like the original series in not the best way. Ultimate Alien mostly calmed itself and become more of a comedic and serious blend. Omniverse mostly when for a fun route, though does still have its serious moment. The reboot was designed for a younger audience, in order to introduce a new generation to the series, but it has a charming style to it and does get better as it goes on. So in the end, depending on what you like, you'll most likely enjoy one version of the series better than others. It's not a perfect show, with a lot of changes over the years, but it's still a lovely show with many ideas to get into. And again, if you need it, use the wiki or google. There are plenty of list and resources out there that can help you understand the order of things. 💚

Since we're on the Cassie discussion, all your posts about the unreality of Lisa had me thinking about what if they'd given Cassie a kid and let her be the Lisa, and had some REAL emotional stakes in that season. Because they really were in love at the time (thus, why she'd let him in). And now Dean is not exactly the same person post-hell. On the other hand, I don't want that to have happened to Cassie, a more fleshed-out person
okay here is the thing. i actually love the braedens. i especially love that they’re not people and dean has no real emotional connection to them. that’s STELLAR to me. like, if the show was gonna end after swan song? i would have wanted dean to go back to cassie. but it DIDN’T. it WENT ON. and i love that dean like. spent a year in a complete lavender marriage with a woman he didn’t love just for a chance to pretend to be normal and play normal husband and father. like that’s so insane to me and very dean. that’s like the ULTIMATE empty shell of performance behavior. he couldn’t have done that with cassie. whatever he had with cassie would have been real, and that would have ruined it. the braedens NEED to be paperdolls for dean to play house with. i love how dehumanizing and insane that is for everyone.
i WOULD bring cassie back but i would actually do it later. i have this whole fic in my head where cassie comes back in like.... season nine? because there’s more supernatural stuff happening to her. and she has a husband and a kid and she and dean tragically make eyes at each other over her husband’s shoulder. possibly this is a three episode arc where cassie’s husband got possessed by an angel after the fall and she and dean roadtrip across the country in the impala trying to rescue him while barely able to meet each others’ eyes because of the sexual tension. cassie has her toddler in one of those baby backpacks and dean helps take care of it. cassie and dean kiss once, tragically, leaning against the car at night, and then pull away from each other and cassie touches her wedding ring. they save her husband from the angel and she thanks dean with watery eyes. then dean cries in the car. also, this leaves her alive and ripe to be brought back AGAIN later for some other bullshit.

Here is a probably incomplete list of all my AUs, in no particular order. I don't expect anyone to keep track of these lmao it's just for fun if y'all were curious. Shit, theres a lot 😅
AU AU aka Pain Vampire AU: has either 70k words of content no one has ever read or an uncountable amount more than that which some people have read some of over the years! Depending on how you look at it :) Im actually going to start posting this now that it has a concrete plot. Theres a LOT to unpack in this one. Sure theres pain vampires but also a mirror universe and a mysterious magical council of semi-immortal beings and SO MUCH DRAMA. It has been simplified out of YEARS of very messy content so honestly it has a bunch of its own spin off AUs that I think about sometimes.
Conviction aka Jail AU: is being posted but I have more actual content written out. Somehow this became the main story that happens in my brain!!! Jail angst to domestic angst to domestic fluff. Found family.
Vampire Hunters AU: Im too lazy to look up word count but this is an ALMOST complete Denna/Ramsey one shot I havent posted. Actual Vampires with blood and holy water and everything!
Zombie Apocalypse AU: exists solely in my brain during commutes. Gavin and Trystan mutually rescue each other from a terrible group of humans, and face the world together. Eventually Denna joins their team. Actually a complete story with a hopeful ending!!!! Maybe I should write this some day.
Trains!verse aka This Was Canon For A Few Years Until I Started Focusing On Other Stuff More: lots of content here. Trystan and Jade roadtrip content! Constance can read minds but no one else can and it sucks for everyone! This story focuses heavily on Trystan's arc separating himself from Constance's bullshit. He ultimately kills her and has a small breakdown after it :) Gavin and Trystan have yet another slowburn friends to lovers thing except Gavin also has to deal with Trystan calling him on the phone like "hey let me tell you about this girl Im SOOO in love with."
Arranged Marriage/Courtesan AU: Gavin ends up in charge of a whole country. He keeps meaning to get rid of this dictator role he took over during the coup, but theres just so much to get done first! He marries a very sweet princess for political reasons (Ari!) but eventually he's just so lonely and overwhelmed, he goes to a brothel anonymously just to pay someone to listen to him talk about his feelings and read some poetry to him. Im sure yall have no idea who is working there undercover as an assassin with the ultimate goal of killing him... Also the tabloids are really concerned with whether Gavin's secretly gay or not, and it's a running gag. We actually unpack his repressed romantic feelings for his dead best friend (not Trystan!) This exists almost entirely in my brain but I've written a few words down. Does not have an ending.
Assassin AU: about halfway done. I want to post it as a short series but I have no idea how they get out of this situation. Modern setting, Trystan is tasked with assassinating Agoraphobic Apartment-dweller!Gavin but theyre already best friends. Trystan gets kind of obsessed with watching the videos of people who were interrogated about Gavin. He does end up telling Gavin, and Gavins like LETS WORK TOGETHER TO SOLVE THIS. And yknow, watches the videos and gets incredibly triggered. Very whumpy. If I only had an ending I could finish and post this.
#vincent-gavin: This is an RP with @straight-to-the-pain but it also counts as its own AU in my mind. Lots of torture. Gavin gets captured and interrogated as a rebel. Has a theoretical ending where eventually he survives and just has even more trauma than before :))) and there are some secrets that Trystan would like to take to the grave :))
Gay Bar AU: this is a posted one shot! It's complete! That's it. That's all there is. You can read it on AO3 if you're a grown up.
Guard Dog AU: okay this one is up here on tumblr and yet is also one of the weirder AUs imho. Gavin accidentally gets a trained human guard dog delivered to his door. Pet whump with your local violence furry. He's also got a history doing Investigations Shit with a kind of shady para-governmental organization which totally isnt the FBI. All of the characters are completely aware of how ridiculous the situation is but they still have feelings about it.
Uhhh I'm probably missing some others (and there are some gratuitous bullshit fics that don't need to be listed here!!!) but that's enough for now. You get the idea.

Well the difference is that 2A was half a roadtrip journey whereas 3A is exclusively set in Los Angeles.
That said, I think more happens plot-wise in 3A, there are absolutely episodes where Anne talks about and tries finding a way back to Amphibia (the main contention is just that she's not acknowledging Sasha and Marcy) and there's progress with Terri building a portal for Anne. They'll probably return to Amphibia in the tenth episode.
That's another thing, some of the townies actually are involved in the plot and do reappear (which is more than what I can say for the Newtopians).
Other episodes also have the characters still dealing with stuff like Cloak-Bot, Frobo, and Mr X. There are also two eps about Sasha and Marcy. As you yourself said, there are really only 4 episode segments out of the overall 18 that can get cut out.
Meanwhile in 2A, not a lot was actually achieved. Compared to 3A, I think 8 episode segments out of the overall 20 can get cut out. The Fwagon trip provided nothing beyond setup for Frobo and the Olms, Newtopia does introduce Marcy, Andrias and setup for the 2B temple quest but half of it is still spent on Anne and the Plantars dicking around the city. The Newtopia townies never even come back beyond Gertie's cameo in TC.
So in terms of narrative progression or plot development, I think 3A beats 2A. What I do think 3A fails at is the lack of pathos, Matt described the Earth arc as "Anne confronting her past" and I think it fails terribly at that. Ironically more time is spent on finding a way to return to Amphibia than really exploring the emotional consequences of TC or the return to Earth in general. Every emotional moment so far is underwhelming or outright brushed over compared to the previous seasons, which is very weird because the show was usually great at that.
Good analysis. While I agree that the Earth episodes and season 3A as a whole do have their strengths, it's ultimately overshadowed be the very serious flaws of having Anne hardly acknowledge Sasha, Marcy and the emotional impact of TC, and the fact that literally no one on Earth has asked about Sasha and Marcy once. These are things that can not be glossed over without major storytelling consequences.

Aggregor was awesome but he could’ve been better and it pains me how he was underutilized
Give the man a backstory. Give the man more story in general. He was the perfect opening to have a long, Kevin-focused arc where we learn about Osmosians and about Kevin and get some growth and shit. You can even have it end up the same way, with the Ultimate Aggregor stuff and then the Ultimate Kevin stuff and with the blatant addiction shit going on and Mike’s involvement you could take advantage to do a graceful slide into a redemption arc for Mike- to go along with a proper redemption arc for Charmcaster- that involves him and Gwen pursuing information about a shared Anodite heritage, possibly while bringing Hex back in as a major villain for Gwen.
Give Ben some shit to do for a proper season finale (maybe have build-up in the background of the other shit) and you’re golden. You could even play into the other two’s arcs for why they leave at the start of OV- Gwen taking a year to stay in Legerdomain and learn more magic and Kevin heading offworld to reconnect with his roots.
Which would also pave the way to have a big reunion at the end of OV, where Gwen and Kevin come back better than ever and help Ben and Rook handle whatever the fuck the problem is (not some fucking ‘Ben is in fact the reason life ever existed in the universe’ bullshit) in a grand showing of just how solid a team and how dangerous together these people can be.
End finale with Ben suggesting a roadtrip so they can all re-bond, roll credits, cash in the cow

How would you rate each of the season finales from best to worst and why?
hmmm season one didnt really have a finale though? like it just ended on control freaks which was a good episode but not really a finale uhhh i guess i should rate the 2-parters in general since thats a little more fitting. theres no real structures to them being finales and they crammed 3 of them into season 2 lol
1) reign storm is number one for me, both RS and TUE rank very close and story wise (in terms of concept) i like TUE more but story for RS (in terms of actual execution) felt much more filling. im not a fan of the ecto-skeleton, especially with how they kinda tossed it away afterwards, but thats really the most i didnt enjoy from it. a lot of character dialogue and interaction was at its best in this episode and vlad especially was entertaining as hell with his antics.
2) i know its a little blasphemous to rank the ultimate enemy at #2 but i explained a bit of my reasoning lol. like, i really like TUE conceptually a lot and theres a lot of potential for a lot interpretation and story and all that, but time travel is a very delicate idea to work with in stories which the show certainly uh.......did not have. the episode fumbles a lot in execution with some aspects being a little too silly to take seriously (like the opening scene showing how amity advanced so much and made you think it was like hundreds of years into the future but it was only 10? danny’s reaction to certain events not being written the best? how the literal crux of the episode was explosive burger sauce???). but you know, the episode gave the phandom a lot of materials and ideas to work with in fan content and while TUE sorta falls apart if you really focus on details, its still a good episode overall.
3) hnnnnnnggg reality trip i guess? honestly the vast divide between how much i like the first two vs these last ones is a gosh darn canyon. similarly with how i like RS an TUE at about the same level but for different reasons, i also DISLIKE RT and PP at about the same level as well. I talked a bit about this one in another ask, but basically this whole episode is just a marvel rip off and hardly transformative of the concept in any way. the whole “secret reveal but then reverse it by the end of the episode” couldve worked great but only if we actually explored the concept a bit more instead of using it as a driving force to have the kids be chased across the country (not that it doesnt make sense but we hardly tackle the concept itself in favor of just having it happen for plot). and you know, i hate how they handled the reveal with the parents. i understand reversing the effects of having danny’s secret revealed for everyone else like the GiW but jack and maddie literally show themselves accepting danny for who he is and show that danny doesnt need to worry about being dissected molecule by molecule?? but then he just??? mind wipes them anyway???? im just not a fan of that lol. i guess one good thing i can say about this episode is the roadtrip aspect? idk i liked seeing the trio go to different places and hang out in diners and stuff like that, so ill give it that.
4) aaaand we all know what goes here, of course its phantom planet. everyone knows the problems with this one, we all are well aware of it! RT was bad because it was mostly boring and formulaic, but PP just had a whole smogus board of bad decisions. honestly, in my rewatch of danny phantom a couple months back, this series finale really had every problem of season 3 bundled up into one little package. sam’s arc, how every episode lowkey doesnt make any sense, the overly weird focus on the sam/danny endgame, its all here! its all right here in phantom planet like a full course shit meal! the characterization is awful and just a disgusting display of decay to end the show on. the worse part is that i feel like it couldve worked too, in some way if just everything was done differently with different writers and different everything else this concept couldve worked! but it didnt, just like everything else in season 3, it was good conceptually but when it came down to execution it just didnt work. and thats that.
