Setting myself a new year's resolution to try and do a bit more art, and to not be so much of a perfectionist about what I post. I don't have anything new to show yet, but I can post some of my older sketches that I never finished for whatever reason.
This piece was a very rough idea for an intermission screen for my streaming, originally from 2022.

helen, there is a wolf in your sheep's pen. its fangs are dripping red, and its claws are tangled with wool. the jumper your father knit for it doesn't fit anymore, look, it's tearing at the seams. your dog cries bloody murder. the sheep are sleeping, still.
the wolf looks at you with its big, bright eyes. its pupil echoes the night's sky, and its tongue hangs, foamed, from its mouth. do you grab the shotgun?
do you strengthen the fence? do you change the lock? the wolf breathes heavy, see.
when it speaks, it comes out a mess. when it looks at you, it comes out a threat. when it grows, in bursts and bouts, it is a fairytale warning. the wolf bends its spine to look at you. a ring of teeth around its ankle, a sharp break in the line of its snout, it pulls back its flews.
on a human boy, it might be a smile. on the wolf, it is a rumbling thunder that lives somewhere in its chest, drooling for its chains to break.
helen, mother of three. helena, herald of tragedy, how long until the wolf starts hunting? it must be hungry. you've not fed it in years.

Gonna take a break from Tumblr for a while, I think. My mental health has been plummetting, and I need time to get back on my feet.
Though a large part of it is definitely the on-going genocide, my eyes are still on Palestine. If I reblog anything in the next few days, it'll more than likely be either personal stream stuff (huge maybe on that) or Palestine news.

Slamming my fists on the ground that sex pollen isn’t a thing.
Why can’t I just go into a wooded area with a friend (or a couple of my friends) and we and happen across a weird group of mushrooms that seem to sparkle in the sun. We peer at them for a minute and decide to try and avoid them because it seems like an unusual thing for the area.
But we still want to continue our hike, so we decide to walk around them a couple feet away. And the second we step foot past the mushrooms, they burst into a poof of sparkling spores and we get covered in them. I’m a little weirded out by it but we seem okay, though.
We brush the spores off. And we try to keep going but it doesn’t last long because a couple paces later I’m overcome with the sensation of being so fucking hot.
I start stripping off my clothes to try and cool down but I don’t feel any cooler and as I strip in front of my friend, I notice my cunt has started to throb and drip just a little down my leg. I shuck my pants off and look up at my friend with blown pupils, everything having a subtle rosy haze. My friend looks hot under the collar too and flushes fully when I catch them staring at my body and I don’t have time to think before I’m grabbing at them to help get them undressed. Our heads are swimming with spores and the hotcold burning feeling where my hands touch their bare skin.
And before I can put coherent thoughts together my friend’s hands are on me and they shove me against the nearest decent sized tree or log and their fingers are in my soaked cunt, and I’m shaking by the time they take their fingers out only turn back to facing them and shove me to my knees so they can finally fuck my face like they’ve always secretly wanted to but never had the chance to…

doug eiffel is, in his own words, a man of many fears, but i think two of the most interesting ones are these twin fears he has about his self perception: he's afraid that no one will ever take him seriously. and he's even more afraid that they will.
i think a lot about his story in all things considered - what it betrays about eiffel's psyche that both minkowski and jacobi present versions of the narrative where they're in the right, but he has this fear. that he's screwing it up, that everything is his fault and everyone knows it, even when he's barely involved and just trying to help. that within his own narrative he is still in some way the one at fault, but also a victim of circumstance who everyone will jump to unfairly blame.
it's his attachment to this perception of himself - as the perpetual screwup, as tragically unlucky, as everyone's punching bag, as ultimately unimportant - that holds him back for so long. because the thought that he will only ever be those things, only ever his mistakes? that terrifies him. but it's safer than the alternative.
with his efforts to cast himself in that tragicomic role, taking eiffel seriously is such a central point to his character development (and specifically in what it indicates re: where he stands with the others) - everything about shut up and listen and constructive criticism, of course, but also. when hera connects with him in bach to the future by opening up about their shared insecurities, she shows him that she takes him seriously and tells him that he should take himself more seriously too. and minkowski can't fully understand eiffel or connect with him as a person until she comes to terms with his conviction and all the complexities that forces her to acknowledge in him.
it's so much scarier for doug "why the hell do you even care what i think? i'm so far beneath both of you that i shouldn't even register on your radars" eiffel to consider that maybe people can take him seriously, that maybe they already do. because if they want him around, if they value his effort, if they care about him and think about him and take the things he says to heart, then that means those things matter. and it means that he matters, which is terrifying both in what it challenges about his own self hatred and the weight it gives to his otherwise careless words and actions.

Actually I'm bored so I'm gonna follow up with what I said in the last rb's tags.
There's nothing wrong with wanting to add depth to a character in headcanon, but you do gotta respect that more depth wasn't like a missing component to an original work sometimes.
Like I write complex Kirby headcanon out the wazoo, but with a very distinct understanding that 1) I dont think I'm doing this to "improve" much because I'm satisfied with (99.8% of) this series' writing, and 2) That the writing I'm doing is in a style incompatible with how canon just works. I dream of story-dense drama-heavy Kirby Lore RPGS, but that's cause that's a me thing, Hal doesn't make those and I know they never will.
They also just don't WRITE things traditionally, the framing device of the series is often centered around Kirby, so through the eyes of an innocent child if often the mode of expression. And that's what makes this series this series and WHY I write headcanon for it. It's a great starting point, but that doesn't mean I think my landing point is more superior. I'm a big proponent that more detail =/= better with writing which is often why I fixate on mechanics of children's media, cause it's a real skill to pack so many ideas into short, simplistic stories. That's why I like Kirby so much, I think the team is masterful at that, not at writing sprawling political sci-fantasy operas.
What Kirby does is it alludes to those space opera elements in a way specifically meant to spark the imagination, but that's not a page left blank, it's more of giving you an extra notepad and pencil at the end of a story. When Taranza finishes his sad fairytale role of a misunderstood crony, and the rest of the series portrays him as depressed after everything said and extracted from KTD, they're not bastardizing him because they're not continually writing him new lore. Like, they're done-zo with his character and that's fine. They're just showing him like that so you understand the state he was left in after his arc finished, and you can personally extrapolate from there if you wish. He is not supposed to have anymore to his character than what was done in his story, now it's your turn to mess with him and give him whatever extra stuff you like, but that's intentionally left for you.
This isn't actually what the previous reblog was about per se, but in a way I think what Kirby does is a fun building upon the purely fairytale/fable writing of something like The Lorax. The games already have strong execution of their themes, and then a lot of hidden extra detail to give a fun amount of depth and pathos for more mature fans, and then that allusion lends itself to interpretation and speculation. All while still being able to execute an about similarly simple story on the surface (with action-adventure science-fantasy aspects ofc).
