Okay, Miss Angst Queen, you want angsty scenarios, I shall give you one.

Fem!Reader (You), Diluc and Kaeya grew up together and Diluc develops a kiddie crush on you.

That's why he isn't too happy when Crepus suddenly announces that because Jean's mother had activated the marriage contract between their families, he is now engaged to Jean.

It didn't take Jean long to realize that Diluc doesn't like her the way he like you and she's pretty miffed because she feels you have 'stolen' her fiancé. Her more... over-zealous servants decide to take matters into their own hands and arrange for 'unfortunate incidents' to happen to you.

Eventually, your mother is forced to fake your death and send you to her distant relative in Liyue (Baizhu) when one of those 'unfortunate incidents' come a little too close to killing you.

With Diluc, after his self-exile after Crepus' death, the very first thing he does after returning to Mondstadt is to annul the marriage contract.

Content: The female protagonist grew up with Kaeya and Diluc, along with Diluc developing a crush on on you since childhood. However, Jean's mother activated a marriage contract with Diluc's fathers, thus binding him and Jean in an arrange marriage. Jean's servants decided to arrange an event to create an unfortunate "accident" which lead your mother to actually making you fake your death by it and send you to Baizhu, a distant relative. However, unknowingly after Crepus's death along with his situation with Kaeya, he placed himself on self exile and the first action he did when returning, was to nullify his marriage contract with Jean now that he is the head of the family and can decline the contract. ( I hope I got this correctly )

My spin with Angst :) : Years later, Since the reader's distant relative is Baizhu, it would make sense she would have Dendro healing abilities, as Baizhu have been training you to defend yourself and medically educate you. However, ironically, you were in your villain era, You were angry, you felt robbed. This was trauma without you realizing it. Despite being taught to be a catalyst user, you decided, why in the hell would you even try at this point? You decided, a sword would suit you much better.

Trigger Warning: I might be a little violent in this story to stress the Villain Era the reader is in, and also, dealing with trauma so please proceed with caution. I might add cursing a bit, please let me know if you can feel the idea of the reader without the cursing.

"What you do you mean you are cancelling the arrange marriage!?!" Jean looked at Diluc shocked.

He was standing in her office, unfazed. One word to describe Diluc right now, was tired. Exhausted. Drained. He had no energy to deal with anything, he didn’t want to deal with anything. He lost the person who he loved to some vague accident, he lost his father, and lastly, he lost his brother, metaphorically of course.

"Just as I said, I am canceling this unnecessary contract, I have the right to. The only reason we had this, was only because of the favor my father owned your mother. Consider that favor fulfilled by my servitude to the Favonious knights." He turned to leave without another world.

Jean jumped forward, and walked. "Wait! Wait!" She hugged him from behind. "I haven’t see you in so long, can't we talk this out? Come on, Luc..."

Diluc pushed her away. "Don't ever call me that again, understand? I only tolerated it for the contract. But I never want to hear it out your mouth again. Understand?"

Jean looked at him baffled. "B-But-"

"Understand?" Diluc glared into her eyes, his eyes were soulless reds, in the pits of a fiery empty dead hell.

Jean obediently complied, due to shock and intimidation. "U-Understand..."

Diluc continued to walk out of her office. "There is only one person who is allowed to call me that..."

As Jean watched Diluc walked out and put in all his two week notices for everything and leaving behind a life he once had. To that, he thought, good riddance.

As years, passed by, Diluc went on to be the most successful winery owner over the countries, gaining riches, as his main occupation is to produce wine, and deal with the fatui, and any other monsters at hand.

However, here you are, staring in the mirror in your room. You lived in Bubu Pharmacy with Baizhu looking after you. You glared at the scars on your body. There were deep scarring on your arms, back and chest. So deep, that it could be felt through your clothes if anyone tried hard enough to pay attention.

Red. There was only anger in your eyes. You saw a glimpse of your kind happy face, when you were younger, as it flashed back now. You just wanted to be left alone. You want peace and quiet. You didn’t care for anything. You were just angry.

You were robbed, you lost everything. Angry at almost dying, angry at losing your roots at your home land. Angry that you could have had a happy life, a peaceful life. Yet, you were here in fucking Liyue. Your mother recently passed, months ago, and you couldn’t be there. Why? Because you were in fucking Liyue. You could have healed her, but she kept saying no and to keep your faked death a secret.

She has passed on, that was the last straw, fuck faked death. Fuck being alive or dead. Fuck everything. You are done.

i feel like hyunsuk isn’t really the type to initiate that much skinship. from the videos i watched just looking at interactions, he’s not as clingy to the members as the other boys (but that doesn’t mean he loves them any less! his heart is so full of love for them, we all know that). but! he has the habit of slinging his arm around the members’ shoulders. he’s mostly like this with doyoung. i was just watching a bunch of videos where hyunsuk babies him and it finally clicked in my mind after i struggled to come up with something. you and hyunsuk could just be standing around, waiting for your take out or waiting in line at the grocery or convenience store, and his chest would just be pressed to one of your shoulder blades to let you know he was there for you in case you needed him. his arm may or may not be slung around your shoulders, but he will still dip his head towards your ear to say something to you over the surrounding noise. it’s not exactly whispering sweet nothings, it’s literally just normal conversation that could be said out loud. but there’s something about bringing himself towards your face that makes hyunsuk feel closer to you (metaphorically and literally) and he just likes it. he’ll talk to you with his heart eyes trained on your face or the side of it, and he especially likes the way you tilt your head back at him (eye contact or not) to respond. heart definitely skips at the times you’ll lean your head back against his and if you tilt it enough to lay it on his shoulder (he’ll have his hand on your waist if you do this PLEASE DO).

park jihoon just has this thing about him that no matter how annoying (affectionate) he can be to someone, you can’t help but absolutely love him. jihoon is just so teasing by nature and i think it’s cute that he’s some sort of a special type of tsundere. he’s the type to give you tough love all the time and will take the time to scold you when you’re talking bad about yourself because he loves you so much and doesn’t want to hear this stuff about you. he wants you to know how loved you deserve to feel and is ready to give you that love. he gives me a lot of best friend to lover vibes because you’ll be joking around with him, he’ll refuse to play along, but then he’ll laugh and just wrap you into his arms when a pout forms on your lips. jihoon thinks the way you react is just cute - that annoying little shit (again, affectionate). the type of guy who you would have a “i swear we’re just friends” phase with but then literally be laying your head on him whenever you’re together or literally linking arms with him all the time. he does this a lot to hyunsuk but he’ll just shake his shoulders like he’s doing aegyo so that they hit you while you’re doing something so that you get annoyed, and then ultimately just pulls you toward him to stuff his face in your neck and just hug you so tightly that you have no choice but to let it happen.

you know that one live where yoshinori is sitting on the floor and he just scoots his cute little butt over to jaehyuk to lay his face on his lap? and jae just lets yoshi snuggle himself into his legs and just leans over to his face? yeah, no doubt yoshi would do that to you. just your presence is enough to calm him after a long day. he does this mostly when he’s tired and had a long day, finally able to be in the warm comfort of your home. he finds you sitting at the couch, probably catching up on the recent drama you had fallen asleep when you were watching it with him before you went to bed, or the lecture you had to catch up on. poor baby just drops to the floor after planting a kiss on your temple, wraps his arms around your legs, and squishes his face onto the side of your thighs. he damn near falls asleep right then and there when you begin to ask about his day with a giggle, your fingers softly running through his hair. all you get are content hums and you can tell that your boyfriend is about to fall asleep, so you gently pat his face to help him get ready for bed.

i just found the most heartwarming youtube short of the junkyu day vlive and got inspired, so junkyu’s might be pretty long compared to the other members. basically, hyunsuk had been late for his class so he like was rushing out and then everyone started pretending to rush out too but junkyu was literally grabbing onto every single other member in the room bc he didn’t want them to leave and it was so so so precious. i think he would definitely be like this to his s/o because as much as the members portray him as a homebody and someone who likes his alone time, i think he does like to be accompanied by someone in particular - you. there’ll be times where you’re just getting up and you’ll find his hand on your shoulder, wrist, waist - whatever - and he doesn’t let you go until you finally let him know that you’re just getting water or going to the bathroom. he just needs to know where you’ll be because somewhere deep down, just knowing where you are makes him feel like he’s not alone, even if you’re in a complete other room. in the times that you have to go home early or you can’t stay at the dorms for the night because you have work or class the next day, junkyu will be clinging onto you all the way to your car or your front door, slowing you down so you can spend extra time with him. he’ll have his arms wrapped around you so that your own are locked to your sides, and he’s just looking at you with hearts in his eyes. presses a kiss to your cheek before finally letting you go, but then calls you when you’re finally in separate locations to make sure you’re safe. please protect his soul PLEASE.

there’s that one tiktok of him and junkyu during the mysterious class reaction cam where junkyu’s grabbing his arm and leaning his head on mashi’s shoulder that i probably watched too many times before ending up screen recording it and sending it to every single of of my friends - THAT alone has wormed its way into my brain and i will not forget about that little smug face he had. it was so soft and cute and attractive that i was mashi brain for the next few days because i could not stop thinking about how he would literally have a smirk form on his face whenever his s/o would lean their head on him. it makes him feel wanted - needed - like his s/o could inform him if there was something, absolutely anything and everything that you needed. mashiho view it as his right as your boyfriend to provide to you, and he understands this as his s/o’s way of telling him that they trust him and glad he’s someone they can rely on. his heart will flutter from the moment you gently wrap your hands around his bicep before linking your arms to the moment you drop your head onto his shoulder and trail your fingers down to play with his own. once the initial smugness wears off, he’ll have the most content little precious smile on his face. he’s so happy with you that there’s no use in the members teasing him because he will outright agree with them - yes, he’s definitely in love you, and yes, he would gladly stay in this position for the next 72 hours.

we all know how much this sweet boy love his members and his kisses and his cuddles (this boy deserves all the love please). jae, of course, is big on kisses so no doubt would he be trying to plant one on you whenever he can because unlike the members, you gratefully and accept it and do it back. however, there’s something about the way that he’s always patting and fluffing the other members hair that has my heart go kaboom. maybe it’s because he does it with the softest smile on his face, or with his arm wrapped around the member but it. is. the. cutest. i feel like jaehyuk would do this to his s/o with absolute heart eyes. it doesn’t matter what you’re doing but jaehyuk always thinks you look cute. you could be preparing your lunch, doing the laundry, rushing out of the door because you’re late for class, eating a bowl of cereal very very sleepily, eyes half open, and jaehyuk will still be absolutely in love. he’ll just be sitting next to you, watching as your hand drags on the table to grasp his, while the other lazily scoops some cheerios into your mouth. jae only giggles as you slowly chew, using his free hand to gently ruffle your hair before allowing you to drop your head onto his shoulder.

i really struggled with finding an asahi skinship habit and ended up using a completely different love language because asahi isn’t the type to initiate skinship, but he definitely doesn’t reject it. he lets anyone hug him, coddle him, hold his hand, and he’s not opposed to it. he even said himself that he usually waits for other people to approach him. i think it might be that way in the first part of your relationship with him, but i definitely think that it’ll become more and more comfortable for asahi to just wrap his arms around you out of nowhere. granted, he’ll probably opt to interlace your fingers more often (the things i would give to hold his pretty hands). that being said, asahi seems to be the least clingy of all the members. but, i realized that he does tend to initiate skinship when there’s a reason to do it (like doing something for the members), like helping you up, holding your hair back when you’re eating, or brushing an eyelash away from your face. i think that type of skinship would not be rare in your relationship because there’s a purpose for it, and asahi feels the need to do it because he’s your boyfriend. i think also if you two are sitting together, or are just generally near each other and are focused on something else, you both move your hands and they land near each other. asahi would just unknowingly catch them as they brush by his skin and would pull your fingers through his or cradle your hand in his. i feel like his hands are just so delicate and beautiful that just that action will have your heart fluttering. i think one big thing he really likes is when you pull his hand into your lap to play with his fingers!

snuggling / hiding his face in your neck

wow okay when i tell you i’m in love with bang yedam, i mean i am in LOVE with bang yedam. he’s the sweetest, most talented boy (albeit frat-like ngl but we love him anyway). yedam is so clingy and for some reason that was a surprise to me when i first started stanning. he’s got so much love for his members and even though he acts super cool, at the end of the day, he just wants the others to know much he loves and cares for them. if anyone remembers the way he hugged dobby when he found out he was his manito, please cry with me. the way he held onto doyoung’s neck with a smile of realization and then threw himself into his younger friend’s arm and buried his cute face into his neck, please i was crying i want a yedam hug so bad. you know that thing where he just goes up behind a member and puts his hands on the members neck or shoulders before just stuffing his face into their neck? yeah THAT. yedam would do that so so so much with you because 1) he loves you 2) he thinks you smell good 3) he just wants to be close to you at all times every day and 4) he loves you. he will not fail to giggle at the way you squirm, but he can hear the smile in your voice when you tell him that he’s tickling you. yedam only proceeds to press tiny kisses onto your neck, finally letting go when you turn to meet his lips with your own, but that doesn’t mean he’ll keep his hands off you! definitely keeps his hands or arms around you.

although this kid is the king of flirting and cheesy pickup lines, i do believe that he isn’t the biggest on physical touch. not that he hates it of course - him pulling mashi onto the couch to cuddle with him, or his clinginess to junghwan is something that is really heart fluttering. but i think that he does seem to prioritize words of affirmation and acts of service most! he’s always telling the members, especially jeongwoo, how handsome they are (bless his heart, i hope jeongwoo can become more confident about himself bc he’s absolutely beautiful) and making sure the other members are fed before he eats too. but i’ve seen doyoung initiate smaller acts of physical touch with the members (ignoring the way doyoung’s always touching junghwan’s chest lol). i don’t think doyoung has a particular habit regarding physical touch - normally his skinship is ultimately still an act of service like asahi (like when he held jeongwoo’s hand to stop him from biting his fingernails). however, i think that this angel would without a doubt rub your back in a ways of comforting you or just if you’re sitting next to him and the both of you are focused on something else. maybe you’re watching tv or the other members play games, but his hand would just unconsciously move to your back or shoulder to draw little shapes or just rub up and down - like he did to junkyu in that one dad is sleeping video. it’s become so natural between the two of you that sometimes neither of you notice it happening until another members asks if you're feeling okay or if your back hurts or anything. a lot of times you both freeze, doyoung not even realizing what he was doing, and you both give cute little laughs (dobby’s bunny smile PLEASE TT). the members might tease the two of you a little, but they all secretly think the two of you are cute.

渡辺温斗、WATANABE HARUTO !

his hands always seem to return to your waist

through the past few weeks i’ve come to love treasure, i’ve learned that haruto has a tendency to place his hands on the members waist. when junkyu had accidentally hit him with the jump rope and ran to him for a hug, haruto’s arms hugged junkyu around the waist. when jeongwoo felt bad that he had burned the meat during that one cute treasure map episode, haruto comforted and reassured woo by patting / rubbing his waist. then, very recently, during the be with me couple ending fairy at the trace concert, haruto grabbed dobby by the waist after the lights went out when they were laughing at each other, and i thought that was the cutest thing. there’s no doubt in my mind that he would do that to his s/o. its unintentional, but his hands and arms just seem to return to your waist. he’ll brush past you by moving you to the side with his hands on your waist, and he’ll be the type to give you a lot of back hugs when he thinks no one’s looking. he’s a bit of a shy boy, so he only initiates back hugs when you’re preoccupied with something (exhibit a: that one hello 82 video? i think when he was hugging yedam ; exhibit b: when junkyu got exposed that haruto was his ideal type and haruto wouldn’t let go of him for the rest of the live). maybe the waist thing is because he’s so tall, but either way, haruto will have ways to unknowingly fluster you all the time.

박정우 、PARK JEONGWOO !

twirling your hair and wiping the skin around your face for any crumbs

please, park jeongwoo has no reason to be so soft and cute around the members. i was having trouble picking just one type of skinship for him because he does the most heart fluttering actions towards the members. the way he just twirls his and the members’ hair out of habit is the cutest thing to me because he’s just a ball of wholesome energy and he just contains it by doing this omg he’s so cute. you and jeongwoo probably had been friends long before you ended up together, but it isn’t until you’re dating that you realize how often he plays with your hair when you’re just sitting together. jeongwoo never fails to gently grab your chin if you ever get remotely close to him (asahi once got close to him to read comments during a vlive and jeongwoo….just gently held his face - please) or tilt your face to face his own before using the tips of his fingers to gently brush away the remaining crumbs of the snack you just shared. the kid just has the softest look on his face when he does it (have i mentioned how pretty his eyelashes are?) and you never fail to blush when you watch him do it. his eyes are completely focused at the task at hand, then suddenly they meet yours, and jeongwoo just gives you the sweetest, close-lipped smile while giving your cheek one last brush with his thumb.

소정환 、SO JUNGHWAN !

bear hugs with his face pressed on top of your head

so junghwan, my precious boy. if you think that his hugs would not be warm or cuddly or soft, you are absolutely wrong (let’s ignore the fact that this kid looks older than me and has been hitting the gym - he’s still a baby in my eyes). but the way that he comforted and hugged hyunsuk during trace has been ingrained in my mind. with his arms wrapped around you tightly, head leaning on yours so that your face is literally squished against his neck / chest, you will feel absolutely comforted and protected like no one can hurt you. junghwan seems like he would be such a safe space. his hyungs have said many times before that despite his young age, he is a very mature and reliable boy, so i think that will translate a lot to how he is in a relationship! you are never afraid to go to him with your concerns, worries, or when you’re just tired and need a break because this sweetheart will always be down to listen to you, comfort you, and make you feel better. i think that through the years, i’ve come to know maknaes of kpop groups to be the ones that don’t want to be babied, but i feel like junghwan openly accepts all the love and care that the older members give to him, and there is no doubt in my mind that all the love he receives will be projected out to every single person he loves as well.

Once again, to celebrate this awesome day, I thought I'd give another shout-out to some more of those wonderful ladies that I alove and admire, both those who hve inspired me for a while now, and those that I just recently discovered ...

IMAN VELLANI. Oh my sweet girl! :3 Exploding onto the scene thanks to the recent acclaimed hit/fan favourite that was the Disney/Marvel Ms. Marvel streaming show, the most adorable geek girl in ALL THE WORLD really got a major, much deserved profile boost (regardless of the problems) thanks to her co-starring return to the role of super-popular young Marvel superhero Kamala Khan in The Marvels. She's a genuine absolute SWEETHEART and she deserves all the success that's surely coming to her.

GIDEON NAV & HARROWHARK NONAGESIMUS. Yup, I have FINALLY gotten round to reading Tamsyn Muir's ridiculously popular sci-fi fntasy novel series The Locked Tomb! It's still early days, I'm only on Gideon the Ninth, but I am ALREADY falling head over heels in love with the story's central duo, the reluctant warrior Gideon, a snarky oversized golden retriever of a woman, and her "hated" charge, Harrow, the scheming, overly-ambitious scion to an ancient clan of intergalactic necromancers, who's a metaphorical vicious little soaked ferret. I love them, they're so adorably dysfunctional ...

AWKWAFINA. For me, one of the funniest people around, this musician, comedian and actress deserves every ounce of success she's earned for herself. I mostly know her for her acting, having been a fan ever since she was in Ocean's 8, since showing up in a raft of great roles in the likes of Shang-Chi & the Legend of the Ten Rings, Raya & the Last Dragon, Crazy Rich Asians and Swan Song, although she's REALLY hitting her stride now, showing up in REALLY BIG stuff like Renfield, Quiz L\ady and, now, the incoming (and long-awaited) Kung Fu Panda 4.

TATIANA SUAREZ. Perhaps the most incredible sportswoman I have come across in a good long while, this one is a TRUE INSPIRATION REVELATION. A strong up-and-coming contender for UFC World Champion, she's been through SO MUCH in her life to get where she is now, having had her teenage dreams of being an Olympic Gold Medal wrestler dashed after an accident during training led to the discovery of a burgeoning case of thyroid cancer. Fighting off the condition, she then fought her way back after embracing judo and then mixed martial arts, before AGAIN suffering a debilitating neck injury which NEARLY ended her sporting career again, forcing her to take another long-term hiatus to get back into fighting shape ... just as COVID hit. Now she's back again, fighting fit and better than ever, hungry for that next chance and looking like she's definitely gonna get it this time ...

SINEAD O'CONNOR. The last 13 months have been really tough, we've had to say goodbye to some truly wonderful people, but one in particular REALLY HURT. The music industry lost a true GEM with the passing of this genuine GODDESS, the Irish singer-songwriter best known for her INSANELY popular cover of Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U, although those in the know recognise that she was ONE HELL of a force nature in her own right, courting controversy throughout her career for her outspoken religious and political views. She NEVER backed down on what she believed, and earned my undying respect and admiration for it.

FLORENCE PUGH. A completely amazing young actress who's had a trily ASTOUNDING rise to fame in recent years, I've be a fan of Flo's ever since she broke out in a MASSIVE WAY in the twisted psychological drama Lady Macbeth. She's blown us all away since, lighting up the screen in the likes of midsommar, Don't Worry Darling, Oppenheimer and, now, Dune, Part Two, but now, for me she will ALWAYS be Yelena Belova, the true successor to the MCU's Black Widow mantle.

MIZU. One of my favourite female characters of the past year (although I'm sure she would balk at actually bringing up her gender), the titular lead protagonist of Netflix' wild runaway success new animated series Blue Eye Samurai is a genuinely fascinating and intoxivating character, who prompts profound debate about gender roles and personal identity while kicking arse in SPECTACULAR FASHION indeed in feudal Japan.

TEYONAH PARRIS. Definitely one of THE MOST AMAZING African American actresses coming up right now, this young lady is definitely earning her breakout star status. Having come up through sterling turns in the likes of Dear White People, Chi-Raq, If Beale Street Could Talk and Candyman, before finally making good on all that promise with high profile lead turns in THey Cloned Tyrone and her ongoing role as MCU superhero MOnica Rambeau/Photon in Wandavision and The Marvels.

BILLIE EILISH. What do I REALLY need to say about one of the most popular and astoundingly unique musical artists of the moment? Ever since her breakthrough at just THIRTEEN YEARS OLD with her wildly successful first single, Ocean Eyes, which became a massive runaway smash on Youtube, this incredibly talented young singer songwriter has consistently impressed with ever release, entirely deserving her immense success with an amazing debut EP and two subsequently BRILLIANT albums. She keeps going from strength to strength, and at just 22 years old is only just BEGINNING what's sure to be a MONSTER of a career ...

KITTY O'NEIL. A true legend in cinema, even though most of us have NEVER actually seen her face, this little lady was one of the GREATEST stuntwomen and racers of all time, and a MASSIVE inspiration throughout her life as well. They raged, continuously tried to kill each other and endlessly traded smouldering looks of hate that bordered on OBSESSION ... all while genuinely SIMMERING with barely restrained sexual tension. inspired by @izzyspussy’s prompt. hope u dont mind?? lol also tw for mention of james tartt. yknow how it is — also im thinking this takes place around the start of the season after the show ends 💚 but also (thanks nonny!) just pretend eras tour came out 2021 and barbie came out 2022 and not. now LOL

It starts as less than a handful of Tweets. Honestly, Jamie laughs at the first one, then scrolls by and completely misses the rest. And then he sees a group of lads donning West Ham merch pointing at him while on his morning run (sans Roy, who had to bow out due to a cold, the dick . . . Jamie's planning on picking him up breakfast) and whispering — but not quiet enough — that the Barbie has escaped his box. The Tweets (and comments and replies and DMs) appear more frequently after that.

The pictures of him in his pink tracksuit, tied to Roy’s bike, are passed around again. This time not by his loyal fans who begged for proper HD pics from him and thought he looked good as hell, but by the ones who call him Barbie and think his hair is blond and dumb and that he is just a dumb blond who isn’t even that good at football. At least that last bit could be easily refuted by his stats. He’s damn good at his job, and he knows it.

He doesn’t say anything about it, however, until they’re in the locker room after training, and Isaac huffs at something while looking at his phone. Jamie glances over to see him angling the screen toward him. “They’re callin’ you Barbie, bruv.”

Isaac is a really good friend, like, the best a guy could ask for. But Jamie kind of doesn’t want to think about this. “Yeah, I saw. It’s a compliment, innit? And kind of fittin’. I’m perfect, I’m everything. I am Barbie, ain’t I?”

At his easy dismissal, Isaac brightens up, grinning, and Jamie grins back. He finds the Tweet he was shown and posts a good selfie he took a few days ago, captioning it, I am everything. You wanna be Ken? It’s a bit stupid, but the insult is stupid too, so he thinks he’s allowed it.

The thing is — he wants to be unbothered by the nickname. The Barbie movie was fucking awesome, and though he’s still on thin ice with Keeley, even after their strictly-business trip to Brazil, they put aside their differences . . . that is, they put aside Jamie’s fuck-up to go and watch one of the screenings together. Yeah. It was fucking awesome. And he loves women. Like, major respect.

But the condemnations of the word are a knife’s edge away from a whiskey-tinged voice hissing soft and little bitch in his ear, and Jamie really can’t fucking deal with that right now. And he had gone and seen James in rehab, just for a couple hours, and he doesn’t regret going and seeing him, and he actually thinks it’s fucking mint the man’s getting help. He even enjoyed going through the old photos of his grandparents and James as a baby and even some of his own photos, when his mum looked a little less tired and he wasn’t afraid to smile too brightly. And in rehab, James is given limited Internet time, so the chances of him seeing the insults, seeing Jamie being called a girls’ toy, something pretty and pink, are small, and even if he does see, what can he do? They won’t just let him leave while obviously on some rampage.

It’s not like Jamie plans on going back to the man any time soon anyway. He’s not James Tartt’s anything. They just share a name. So what?

Jamie jumps at the touch of a hand on his shoulder. He pockets his phone (his Quote Tweet is now at twenty thousand likes and counting), and when he turns, it’s Roy, staring at him with those impossibly dark eyes and wild brows that make them even darker.

“Hi, coach,” he says with a grin.

Roy grunts back.

Jamie stays still for another second before blinking. “Got any wisdom for me?”

The other guys have begun to clear out, and now it’s just them and Beard still in the coaches’ office. And Will, who seems to be some metaphor for God, the way he’s always around, not even lurking, just . . . around.

Finally, Roy says, “Good pass. Don’t be late tomorrow.”

It’s so unbearably Roy that it makes Jamie sick. It also suggests there’s more he’s not saying, but Jamie isn’t sure what. He doesn’t push, however, just salutes him. “‘Course, coach,” he leans back on his heels, “dark and early, yeah?”

Roy nods, then pivots and mechanically goes back to the office. Jamie watches him go before turning and gathering his things. As he packs, he can practically feel Roy’s eyes on his back, but he knows when he turns, both him and Beard will be staring down at things on their desks. Whatever.

Jamie doesn’t run into anyone on his way out, and he’s grateful, taking a breath when he gets in his car then speeding off. He feels itchy under his skin, like when his foot falls asleep but the sensation is all over his body, and he kind of regrets leaving Nelson Road because he thinks running a few extra laps up and down the pitch would soothe him, if only a little bit. Despite this, when he gets home, he just gets out of his car and goes inside. It’s not that he’s worried about a repeat of his solo jog that one morning. It’s just really hot outside, what with it being late July and all, and he just showered, like, thirty minutes ago.

Every time a notification goes off on his phone, his stomach flips in a really awful way. Jamie turns off his phone.

Maybe now that he’s said something, it’ll die down. Since he’s made it clear he’s not bothered by it, that he can take whatever they give, they’ll stop.

And then, the first match of the season, Jamie walks onto the pitch, and a familiar song starts up. It’s not his song — but it’s certainly for him.

“Are they singing . . . ‘Barbie Girl’?” Colin asks from behind him.

“And changing the pronoun to ‘he’,” Jan adds, helpful as ever.

Jamie catches sight of one of the cameras recording the match, grins and sticks out his tongue, and when he looks to the opposing fans’ side, he even gives a little bow. Just for them. He thinks about something Lasso said to him once about bullying, after he stopped being a dick to Nate and asked why Ted never stepped in. Acknowledging it almost always makes it worse. Sorry that Jamie had believed in the ‘almost’.

After getting booted from Keeley’s and after a dinner at a kebab place that Jamie knows is good because Roy didn’t actually make him sit and watch — he picked bits of lamb from the skewer and placed them on the napkin in front of Jamie without a word — it’s not unusual for him and Roy to get dinner together. Sometimes it’s just them at Roy’s, who’s a better cook than his mum but not better than Simon, and sometimes it’ll be at a pub, and sometimes they’ll go to a restaurant. It was with ruddy cheeks that Roy admitted the kebab shop was like his church, but Jamie wasn’t judging. He thinks he understood the ecstasy of St Theresa after a bite of that lamb.

Tonight, however, Roy drops Jamie off at his place, and then parks the car and follows him in.

“Uh,” Jamie says when Roy stands in the entryway, a hand behind his back, posture stiff, “can I help you?”

“Go to your room,” Roy replies, and Jamie’s eyes go wide, and he says, “O-kay, Daddy,” before he backtracks, but Roy is backtracking too. “I mean, go somewhere that isn’t behind me or the kitchen.”

Jamie’s mouth drops into an ‘o’. “Right. Okay. I’ll just go to the living room, then.”

Roy nods, and Jamie walks slowly to the couch, backwards so he can watch Roy watching him.

He manages to sit still on his couch for a good two minutes, listening to Roy clattering about his kitchen, before he hops up and goes to sit at his dining table instead. It’s there that he sees a paper bag, and it takes everything in him not to peek into it. At the sound of the chair scraping against the floor, Roy leans back from where he’d had his head stuck in Jamie’s fridge, and he turns to look back at Jamie, who smiles innocently at him. He even waggles his fingers in a wave for good measure.

Roy rolls his eyes, but he’s smiling, so Jamie thinks it’s fine, and he doesn’t think about how good it feels to be the one behind Roy Kent’s smile. Roy goes back to rummaging through the fridge.

Eventually, Jamie gets roped into helping out, but all his complaints are customary, and he thinks if he had allowed himself — if he had been allowed — to dream about domesticity, this is exactly how it would’ve been. Right down to the celebrity footballer. It’s kind of perfect.

Then, Jamie’s phone goes off.

It’s his news app, which he keeps forgetting to turn off the notifications for, and it irritates him every time, but especially when he actually clicks the notification ‘cause the story looks interesting, only to find out he’s somehow already used up his articles for the month, and would he please be willing to spare a few pounds every month for more? In theory, yes, he is willing. In practice . . . he has other places to put his money.

That being said, the irritation he feels then is nothing compared to the humiliation he feels now, reading the headline: This Barbie is a Footballer: AFC Richmond Jamie Tartt’s new song.

Roy is turned the other way, so luckily, he can’t see the way Jamie’s smile immediately drops from his face. This shit isn’t even important! It’s just some stupid fan war mess, the opponents’ fans trying to get in his head, and it’s not fucking working, alright? He doesn’t care. He’s just embarrassed that it’s apparently made the news. It’s really not a big deal.

When he looks up from his phone, Roy is looking at him. Jamie swallows.

“It’s nothin’,” he tells him. “Just some politician, saying some stupid thing. Sam sent it to me to rant.”

Roy nods, but he looks like he doesn’t believe him. Jamie’s voice had wavered in the middle, so he doesn’t believe himself either. But he still doesn’t budge, just leans back against the counter and waits for Roy to either turn away or say something in return. Roy turns away. Over his shoulder, he says, “I have something for you after we eat.”

“Whatever’s in the bag?” Jamie asks. Roy grunts. “Is it concert tickets? Am I goin’ to see Taylor fucking Swift? The bag’s just to throw me off, obviously.”

“Fuck no,” Roy’s response is, pun intended, swift and immediate. Jamie grins. “You’ll see later. Just . . . wait.”

Jamie groans. “Fine. But it better be good, since you got me all excited for the concert.”

Roy gives him a stern glare. Jamie puts his hands up, then gets back to washing the dishes they’re done using.

All throughout their meal, Jamie struggles to sit still, and his eyes, without fail, return to the bag. It becomes enough of a problem that Roy takes the bag and hides it in his lap, but Jamie’s no coward, so his gaze still wanders to — well.

“The quicker you finish eating, the sooner you get to see it,” Roy growls out around his own mouthful of salmon and quinoa (Jamie was surprised he had those things in his freezer and cupboard too, but it made a damn good meal, so he’s not complaining).

Jamie grows a lot more focussed after that, and he’s done within minutes — nay, seconds. Roy raises his eyebrows in approval. Jamie licks the leftover glaze for the salmon off his fork for good measure. Roy looks down at his plate.

Once Roy finishes eating, the paper bag makes its triumphant return, Roy setting it between them. He nods his head at it, and Jamie takes it quickly, before the other can change his mind and take it back.

He doesn’t expect what he pulls out, but he feels like he should. He looks between the Barbie and Roy, who’s staring at Jamie with a gaze so intense Jamie worries he might burn up from it. If this had been bestowed to him any time the year before, especially from Roy, he’d think it a continuation of the insult. But all he feels right now is laughter, the weight in his stomach turning into something bubbly and light that works its way up his throat and past his lips. Slowly — because he’s out of practice, the old fart — Roy begins to smile back.

The stupid fucking made-to-move soccer Barbie is even wearing an England kit, and when Jamie turns her around, he grins at the number and name on the back.

“You fucking dick,” he says, the words coming out as a hiss through his teeth, that’s how hard he’s grinning.

“You’re Jamie fucking Tartt,” Roy replies, and Jamie wishes he had a word to describe the look the other was sending him, but the best he can do is say how it makes him feel — really fucking good; like nothing could ever hurt him; like there is no one else in the world but the two of them; like he could go win the World Cup, the FA Cup, all the Leagues, every award in the football world, and not break a single sweat. It makes him feel a lot like he’s in love.

Roy’s not done: “You are everything. Who gives a shit if some pricks call you Barbie? You fucking own it, Jamie. You are every-fucking-thing, and they’re not even Ken.”

And Jamie will make fun of him for it later, that he’s more than aware of the movie’s tagline, but at the moment, he’s clutching the Barbie to his chest like a lifeline, and he feels a sting behind his eyes, like tears are threatening to spill, and his cheeks hurt with how hard he’s smiling.

Roy clears his throat. “Phoebe said there are ways you can change the hair, but . . . don’t use heat. It’s plastic. You can cut it or dye it fucking . . . walnut haze or whatever.”

Jamie doesn’t even correct him that it’s walnut mist. He’s close enough.

He gives the doll one last squeeze. “Thanks, Roy, I mean it.”

Roy doesn’t reply, just gives a grunt and nods his head. That’s alright too. Jamie looks down at the doll again, then leans back in his seat. He holds it up to his face, angles her head so they’re cheek-to-cheek more or less.

“Like twins, ain’t we?”

And Jamie wonders if maybe there were something in the food, or maybe in their drinks, because it seems like Roy can’t stop smiling either.

The opposing fans are at it again. Jamie sees Roy glance back at him and grins. He considers mouthing all good, coach, but he’s more interested in using one arm to wave and the other to hold his Barbie up the same way he had when it was just him and Roy, teeth bared all the while. The crowd goes wild, of course.

He’s Jamie fucking Tartt. He’s everything. Of course no one is going to think of him as just Ken — that’s just ridiculous.

Ok quick breakdown as to why I think Terra and Markus have so much rivalry!! Maybe its too late for this but SPOILER WARNING FOR SHOW ONLYS 🙏 and this is super long so bear with me

Terra and Markus don’t essentially hate eachother, theyre really just envious of eachothers lives, so really theyre just too blinded by jealousy to realize they don’t really hate eachother. We see them quarrel as young children but its nothing too major (markus breaking terras ipod). However whenever they are drawn in the same scene together (cory walkers doodle blog posts or again scenes from the actual comics) theyre drawn as young adults/exiting their teenage years, and its usually in a setting were Terras ascending down from the sky and Markus laying in rubble (presumably after a fight). I feel like this could be a metaphor for Terra looking down on him with pity, and Markus looking up at her with jealousy.

Markus is jealous of Terra’s life because shes an alien who was raised on an alien planet, whos always known shes an alien. Markus is an alien raised on a human planet, and didnt even know he was an alien up until he was 4, when mark told him of Viltrum’s origins. Terra is close to the empire (that she later chose to detach from which is okay!!) and their father and Markus is envious of that, hes envious that she seems to be automatically given their fathers validation (example of this would be her being taken on missions with Mark, being put into training under the mentorship of Kregg) meanwhile he feels like he has to earn it, that it has to be rewarded (him becoming earths new Imvincible, his reason for do-goodings being in hopes their father will recognize him and be proud, and to make him feel more included with the empire and their family. Terras life had a gradual shift from quiet to loud, Markus life is relatively quiet and discrete, but he desires that loud, adventurous life of his older sister. Markus also had to BUILD UP a team or join one, it isn’t really stated if he joined the NEWER guardians of the globe or not but he definitely worked along side them, meanwhile Terra had that team support already provided when she joined the Conservation Order (brinigng it up again later!) And a canon reason why Markus envies Terra is her conception in contrast to his (this is revealed after he attacks Mark). Markus says that he feels his existence is a constant reminder that he was made with hate and that Terra was made with love. He knew that Mark always loved Terra more, and he hated himself because he felt he could never be good enough for Mark BECAUSE of his conception (fuck u an*ssa). Markus feels his mother always doomed him to be bad, and that Terra’s mother destined her for greatness, because Eve is the love of Mark’s life, and an*ssa is a woman who traumatized Mark forever. Markus strives to fit what he thinks Marks narrative of greatness would be, and his way of doing that was carrying on his legacy as Invincible. Markus could also be envious that Terra got to know their uncle and grandfather before they died, they held her, talked back, meanwhile he has to talk to a cold grave that Nolan doesn’t even rest under.

Terra is envious of Markus’ life because he grew up in a two parent household (until an*ssa died during Mark’s battle with Thragg) with an emotionally available mother he could relate to (in terms of powers and species), and the people surrounding him didnt have a distaste for him because of his species considering they didnt (at the time) know he was a Viltrumite. Terra, up until she was 5, was raised by a single mother. This ofcourse isnt Eve nor Marks fault, he didnt intend on getting sucked back into the past for 5 years by some supernatural alien, and Eve didn’t intend on allowing him to leave for YEARS. Terra, being so young, was probably too young to understand why her father wasn’t there, and having him come back into her life after forgetting any memory of him, and then having him AND Eve have to leave to fight Thragg so he can’t harm their family again. Also canon reason when Thragg, Ursaal and Onaan temporarily “killed” her parents and permanently killed Oliver, she had a massive amount of guilt (has a panic attack after Haluma and Debbie catch her training, and on her back after crashing into the ceiling instead of playing with her infant cousins). She felt as if she was too weak to intervene or didn’t try hard enough to protect her family from harm and that she had failed her uncle, or failed to be strong. She feels Olivers obligation to protect her is what killed him, and it shattered her, that she feels because of her, her cousins are now fatherless and Halumas husband is gone. And when Haluma expressed she was afraid of losing her sons next, that definitely ignited a new found fear of Terras; getting killed and having her family weigh the guilt. Markus doesn’t have to bear the guilt of Olivers death, or feel guilty, but Terra does. Terra is envious that Markus always had that father figure beside him, shes jealous that Markus’ adoptive father Scott wasn’t bombarded with missions and enemies that could potentially harm her family or prevent him from being with them. Shes also jealous that the only “father” figure in her life before Mark came back was Kubian, Eves ex and Telia’s brother, and the first person to openly show distain for her for things she cant control (being a Viltrumite and a child), Eves ex who was a piece of shit. And he made it very clear to her that he hated her, while Markus had a loving adoptive father that doted on him and Molly, while her mother’s boyfriend hated her. Terra could also be jealous of the fact that, on a very mild scale, Markus can relate to his (disgusting) mother because they are the same species, look similar, and have the same abilities. In contrast to Eve, Terra and Eve are POLAR opposites, as opposite as mother and daughter can be. Terra doesnt look like Eve (shes 100% debbie/marks clone), she doesn’t have powers similar to Eves, they aren’t even exactly the same species. Markus could look to (BARF) anissa for guidance with his powers and understanding his herritage (well before she died), Terra couldn’t look to her mother to guide her because Eve isn’t a Viltrumite, and therefore lacks the knowledge to help Terra. Terras jealous that Markus has a quiet life with his loved ones that he has the option to be 1 on 1 with, without other people or events flocking in to interrupt, and the only quality time Terra gets with her parents after Marks coronation is being on a mission, training discipline, ex.

Their reasons for envying eachother are actually pretty similar, Terras is jealous of Markus’ dad being emotionally available, Markus is jealous of Terra’s father being their to validate and guide her. They both feel the need to achieve extravagant things in order to be great (Terra going to college to join the Conservation Order to save ecosystems and different planets, Markus becoming the new Invincible, carrying on Marks legacy). They both have major fights/battles, (Terras championship battle that she won against a man more than 5x her size, and Markus fighting that shadow creature that hurled Darkwing back up after he was thought to be dead after the Invincible War concluded). They also bear familial guilt, Markus is guilty of being the product of an event that traumatized Mark for life, and Terra weighs the guilt of being a contributing cause to Olivers death, he died protecting her, and all she could do was cry, because she wasn’t strong enough to fight back, and that there was nothing she could do to save him.

I LOVE THEM SO MUCH THEYRE JUST LITTLE BABIES MY SILLIES I hope they have a more repaired relationship in the show as time goes on, and hopefully get more Molly screentime. I can’t wait to see what Cory’s been brewing up in his witches cauldron on his blog page for Terra and Markus HGEHEG

Best Types Forever: Unlikely Allies Winners ~

Our winners this week are @deg99, @izzet-always-r-versus-u, and @ship-of-skitties!

@deg99 — Bone Fetcher

Love it, love it, love! This card is the perfect intersection of simply adorably and deeply compelling, and I'm all over it. First of all, it's really funny, pairing up Dogs and Skeletons just to make a fetch joke. Beyond that, it's not all that hard to imagine a more serious explanation thanks to the inclusion of Zombie, like a necromancer with a trained squad of zombified dogs to plunder graveyards for their bones. It also does an excellent job of identifying what each type wants to do, and thus serves as a pretty seamless bridge between the two. Dogs want to be attacking, and Skeletons are more than happy to be sacrificed and/or sit in the graveyard. This card forms a really cool feedback loop that still feels like you need to put in proper effort to keep the metaphorical wheel spinning, and I think it's pretty neat.

@izzet-always-r-versus-u — Blood in the Water

I admit, this one got an actual chuckle out of me on first look. The combination here is very much leaning on pop culture, but I think that actually makes the conceit of the card that much more interesting. After all, we in the audience know why these two would be paired up, but in-universe, what sort of conditions could have resulted in this partnership. A society of aquatic vampires who train sharks like bloodhounds? A shadowy organization of vampires and anthropomorphic shark people? There's a lot of directions to go here, and I find it fascinating. Mechanically it's very solid too. Conditional flash is something I always find interesting just for how many options it opens up while still giving your opponent a degree of predictability as to what you'll do and when. Tying it to sacrificing a permanent is smart too, as even though the card makes acquiring a Blood simple enough, the need to commit to the sacrifice gives your opponent a sort of warning light that something's about to happen.

What did Squirrel ever do to get kicked out of the Swarmyard Crew, anyway? Mind you, I don't particularly mind Frog as a replacement even though it's a much less supported type. "Critter" is a pretty fun term for this grouping. While I'd imagine there's probably a more evocative umbrella term, I can't actually think of any besides "pest," and well, y'know. On-cast reanimation is a bit unusual, and I'm intrigued by the fact that it can target non-critters (oh, and quick note, it should be "target creature card") for reanimation. It has the quirk where whatever you revive actually arrives before the critter, which can lead to some fun setups. But it's ultimately balanced by the lower mana value restriction paired with the fact that the five types in question aren't really known for their high-cost creatures. The mill, then, serves as a great way to fill up the graveyard and rewards you for being on a sufficiently high density of critters. After all, you have to have several on board to attack with, and then another in hand to cast. It also makes sure critter tokens aren't left behind, which is important given how token-heavy these types (sans Frog) tend to be. Neat!

i need to talk about brian jr rn for a second and that whole arc be it actually fucks with my head sometimes like watching post gang beats boggs and realising after that point technically speaking dennis is a father?? but also i just wanna know in actuality what exactly lead to dennis leaving mandy and brian again like how did that conversation go? how did he explain it to mandy? we know from canon that dennis doesn't exactly thrive in suburbia and it's safe to say he doesn't have the patience to raise a toddler but he was so adamant on trying and then literally one ep later he's back?

i also think like. the order of events fucks with me a little because you've got hero or hate crime, then you've got tends bar and THAT should've been a narrative turning point! like the seed was planted the romantic music the symbolism of the crate going from 'there's never anything' to 'the one thing i wanted most' BUT THEN mere episodes later u get dennis' double life and all that romantic progress is nullified, especially when dennis then comes back to see macs replaced him with a sex doll (which. i could write a whole other post about how this fucks dennis up but i’ll save that for another day), so it makes sense that the next big event is times up where dennis says 'i don't want you touching me' confirming mac's suspicions from tgtb but also it shows that the sex doll basically confirmed in dennis’ mind that mac only wants him for sex (ergo. tgtb's progress is nullified)

BUT THEN. BUT THEN we have mac finds his pride which. do i even need to explain why this is a turning point, like mac finally learns to stop defining his sexuality through other peoples perceptions of him. the episodes core is about him finding where he personally fits in as a gay man. AND THEN!!! TEXTS!!!! banger episode banger subtext, then i won't even go into waiting for big mo because i could actually write a fucking dissertation on that episode in terms of symbolism and metaphor. anyways finally we have s15 which. to me. there's no way the whole brokeback mountain thing isn't intentional COME ON they have them dressed as cowboys singing love songs then have DENNIS HURT HIS BACK ON A MOUNTAIN???? anyways. this has been a train of thought. thanks for reading. i have autism.

alright, here’s my sorry disclaimer again bc i always feel like i’m being annoying sending u the longest message ever

starting this part with bambi’s overall confusion furthers my point from last time! she’s a little girl and would likely choose her current favourite but still 🥺 it’s important to have her included or at least informed (probably by eli, because she’s the best at being unbiased) by everything that’s going on. justice for my girl. thinking the door’s grown and the intrusive thoughts about the doorknocker? the recurring mental notes that jenni’s gone back to mexico? poor bambi’s overcome with anxiety and this should have been avoided by letting her know what was going on.

i don’t even know how to express the way i was feeling through the entirety of bambi returning to alexia’s house but it’s something akin to the unsettling fear you get when you know something’s going to happen in a horror movie… and if that’s how i feel… how does bambi feel? it’s so awful that she goes through her own mental checks to try and understand and accept everything as it’s presented to her… i feel like it will further her lack of self-confidence. i hope she doesn’t internalize the “it is what it is” mindset so much that she is unable to discern when people take advantage of her and she’s left to accept the things that happen to her even if it isn’t right. teen!bambi i am watching you. with love and care and kindness (and so i can report back to alba and jenni in case anything happens)

i think i figured out the shattered train metaphor for this narrative—it could be alexia! alexia who’s had something difficult happen to her (ie. her pregnancy and initial stages of having bambi, this entire disaster of neglect, nearly losing it at the sight of her child being intubated—leading to the shattering of the train) but with love and time she’s patched up (by olga and jaume) and she’s able to return back to bambi in the end.

had the train been kept safe, or even now as it’s patched together by olga, it remains ever-present in bambi’s life. i imagine it’s in bambi’s bedroom now on her bedside like it was in the hospital. what matters now is bambi’s perceptions of it—and that’s where i think the doorknocker becomes very symbolic. no one uses it—not alba, not eli, and the only person who seems to notice it is bambi.

bambi is very similar to the doorknocker. we see she questions why no one chooses to use it—it functions the same way as the doorbell after all, and i think that’s symbolic of alexia “forgetting” her and essentially how everyone becomes so focussed on “what’s best for bambi” (ie. using the doorbell) and overlooking bambi’s perceptions/emotions (ie. not using the doorknocker.) idk if i’m making much sense but in this narrative, bambi decides she’ll give some attention and love to that doorknocker. she chooses to acknowledge that doorknocker (she chooses to acknowledge her feelings) and to me that’s symbolic of bambi truly allowing alexia in and letting herself be loved by her once again.

this part works in alexia’s initial decision in injured vii (where she tells eli not to bring bambi back.) it also brings us full circle with olga and her uncertainties about her relationship with bambi. both of them have gone through some developments with bambi and it’s nice to see that this ending nurtures bambi’s love for trains and allows her to spend time with them as an entire family <3 justice for jenni though. dw jenni, i’ll make my way over to the airport and come pick u up.

in the end? you’re awesome, i’ve loved this entire series with alexia, but i’m very excited for jenni’s part. 🤭 also, though i understand alba’s feelings… does she ever come around? based if she doesn’t. but does bambi ever intervene when she’s older? does eli? does alexia try harder for alba’s forgiveness?

Let's clarify something, I've never said this. I want it to be put on record.

What I did say is that soulmates dynamics usually rely heavily on symbolism. Because soulmates are not a proven real thing, unless they exist explicitly in the worldbuilding of the story, the author uses symbolism to communicate with the reader that yes, they are very conscious of what they are writing, it's written on purpose, those characters are meant for each other. Symbolism is also the literary translation of fate and destiny, obviously essential elements when talking about soulmates. Clearly, the whole symbolic level of narration means nothing in terms of the soulmates storyline if the dynamic of the couple doesn't support it (Harry and Ginny's one does).

Now, one of the many symbolic elements in Harry and Ginny's story is Ginny's name.

Let's see why.

Ginny's full name is Ginevra, an Italian name that comes from the ancient Welsh name Gwenhwyfar. Ginevra means bright spirit, or even bright elf (if someone is in the mood to write a LotR hinny AU).

Ginny throughout the series is often associated with light and warmth, both on a direct level and on a more metaphorical one, and in the last book, she is even directly described as a brilliant light. She Harry's light, she is life itself.

Therefore Ginny's name fits perfectly into the whole symbolic system around her character, a character who is actually one of the main columns of the symbolic system of the entire saga.

It doesn't end here, though.

Ginevra is the Italian version of the name Guinevere.

Guinevere happens to be the wife of King Arthur. The Arthur hero of the legend, like our Harry.

But here is when it gets interesting.

Guinevere is also pretty famous for having cheated on Arthur, this is the complete opposite of Ginny who has been devoted to Harry since before they even met in a way. Ginny has always loved Harry, even when she really didn't want to, and will always love him.

Does this mean that calling Harry's future wife Ginevra was a poor choice?

No.

Referencing a famous story, using it as a trope if you will, but then changing the ending is something that Rowling does on more than one occasion and various times specifically with Harry and Ginny.

Ginny running after the train and Harry looking at her in PS is reminiscing of many love stories, but instead of being a painful goodbye with a promise of a reunion, it's a hello. It's the first time they meet.

Harry saving Ginny from the Chamber is a situation built in a way that strongly references Orpheus and Eurydice but Harry, unlike Orpheus, manages to actually save Ginny.

In the break-up scene between Harry and Ginny, you can see the usual pattern of the hero breaking up with the love of their life because they consider themselves too dangerous, but usually what happens is that the hero lies about their own feelings in order to make sure the love interest stays away, a White Fang situation if you will. A type of scene that is reminiscent of the ending of the highly successful first Spider-Man movie (that came out only three years before HBP and might have easily influenced JKR) where Peter refuses MJ, and at a funeral of all moments. But with Harry and Ginny, Rowling once again adds her own twist. Harry doesn't lie to Ginny, he is extremely honest about his reasons and emotions, and even the things he can't tell her are things that Ginny already knows even if not in detail (that he's going after Voldemort).

In conclusion, Ginevra is definitely a name chosen very carefully. You can like it or not, but Harry and Ginny's story is one of the most clearly meticulously crafted dynamics of the series.

Fun fact: the Italian version of the name is also associated with the juniper (ginepro in Italian). The juniper in many cultures - from the ancient Greek to the Celtic one - is linked to magic and protection (Ginny is a powerful witch, and one of her arcs is her being a protector of others). Particularly in Mesopotamian mythology, it was the plant of the goddess Ištar, goddess of sex and war, who could bring death and destruction but also love and fertility (Ginny's character is basically a delicate balancing act between harshness and sweetness). To add to this, her animal was the lion (Ginny is a leo).

Hi, me again, just wanna say a few things about ur last post. (Love the analysis btw)

When you are studying human non verbal communication, it's interesting to see the specific details that are hiding, but, one of the most fascinating of all, are the different actions someone do on a basic conversation, and when they feel unrelaxed.

Like you mention earlier, Ian doesn't know how to express his emotions. He's Always making Jokes when he needs to hide his feelings, u can see it in a lot of videos, never talks seriously when the question need a serious answer, it's his way to avoid things, he is a non-confrontational guy. He's not used to explore vulnerable conversations.

He needs to see outside of the room to search the appropriate words to have a better description of what he thinks, trying metaphors to explain his train of thinking, using fillers to have more time to think too.

In the video you can see changes on his way of action. First of all, when he is close to have an encounter with some topic he has really strong emotions, he starts to laugh, making the people who is watching be more comfortable by doing jokes like hand gestures or silly faces, touches his beard and hair, scratches his neck, he is nervious, shy, wants to have something covering him and don't feel so exposed, even he slowly starts to raise the notebook to the height of his head.

He makes microexpressions of surprise when Anthony wrote about Ian hurting people, like if he never anticipade that kind of comeback be on the lecture.

And when Ian finish the reading he stretches to leave all the stress behind, and when Anthony talks about the facebook chat? He rapidly closes his eyes, uncomfortable and ofc ashamed of his past actions, once again, he doesn't like confrontation and his fillers start to be more notorious. Also, he always use a lot his hands to have a little more confidence to speak (like Anthony does).

Idk, some of the things I want to aknowledged and attached to your analysis. Keep doing it please!

Edit: first of all i just wanna appreciate how smart and considered he is. He probably is aware he has some communication issues and tries to cover it by learning/adapting to other skills. Maybe he can't sooth himself but he's still thinking about the room even if it's unconscious (but i think it's not unconscious i think he tries hard) and tries to make them feel lighter. That's not only coming from him being considered tho I think he works on this skill so he can avoid talking about his feelings more. Like i feel like he always has a wall between people and him that it's hard to pass to. And there's a smiley face sticker on that wall he's trying to pass as his emotions.

Yes yes yes thanks for all the additions!!! I agree with you on everything. Especially him passing the question/emotion if it's too much for him. Hide behind a smile, trying to cover it with a joke and immediately move on from it.

And oh about the microexpressions yes. I didn't touch on that one but it was obvious he didn't like that he did it at the time. But again i think it all comes from him can't tell Anthony directly (cause Anthony was too defensive in that subject) he probably felt like his place is filled by this girl and he was jealous at the time. Now as an adult brain he probably cringes from even remembering his words from that.

And tbh i get the feeling. I had the same with a friend she was so obsessed with that walking red flag that we stopped talking at the time. She'd get so offended if I said something about him and even yell at me. But now we're talking and she's all 'yeah you were right'. Ofc it's not good talking behind Anthony but it's probably because he felt like they're not the same anymore because of that person (if he still says the same it's obv he thought that in the past) and he was more angry towards that person than Anthony himself. It was more towards him leaving Ian behind and being with that girl but Anthony was protecting that girl who's obviously bad for him and this probably made him more pissed. (Probably) but now that he's a grown man he knows these actions (especially talking shit behind him) was not something he should be proud of.

But like he said there was no way to talk to Anthony about it so it's either talking shit or closing in. And maybe after Anthony left he realized that some of his words hurt more than he intended them to be. And maybe that's why he started closing in instead of talking.

artorias is an absolute jackass. he has redeeming qualities, but they're a little hard to come by. first of all, he's cocky. he's good at what he does, and he knows it. artorias hasn't survived this long because of pure luck- he works hard to stay where he is. because of his cockiness, he comes off as not only full of himself, but also full of horseshit. since he earned his station, artorias throws his weight around a fair bit. only to mess with those he outranks, but it still makes him a jerk. these qualities don't magically go away when he's interested in someone. as a matter of fact, they only get worse. artorias' incredibly thoughtful courtship attempts include inviting you to watch him spar, inviting you to watch him drink, and inviting you to his bed. what a charmer. in this relationship, you're holding the other end of the metaphorical child leash. shockingly enough, artorias is a little pathetic when it comes to direct romance. communication is going to be a bit of a struggle in the beginning, especially if you like to beat around the emotional bush. you'll never beat him at filling space with empty conversation, though. whether you're pre-established relationship or deep into a loving marriage, artorias will always pay special attention to you out of a group. he'll find a way to make something as simple as a compliment into a tirade. your unwillingness to let your body recover from illesses and injuries frustrates artorias to no end. of course he expected something would happen to you if he wasn't around- that's just how far his head is stuck up his own ass. it doesn't matter that you're inhuman, either. all of artorias' bratty behavior is rooted in the fear that one day, inevitably, he will lose everything. his only coping method is to get better; stronger, faster, smarter. you name it, artorias will have trained in it. of course, none of that will save him, but it's worth a try, right? artorias really tried to get along with your cat, he swears up and down he did. your cat, on the other hand, hates his guts. there was not a mutual attempt. artorias is also very allergic to your feline friend, but he'll try his absolute hardest to hide it. turns out, artorias isn't great at stifling sneezes or pretending not to have a runny nose. go figure.

this might be cliche... but who are your favorite authors/artists?? influences in general? aside from donna tartt?? your writing and the network of little references sprinkled in them literally make me want to tear out my wallpaper and eat it it's so good wtf do you put in it dear author?????

gosh so many things. if it's not glaringly obvious I am a huge media person so books/film/tv are all things I love and consume voraciously. I've always been a big big reader. I've made a list of some of my favorite book recs here as well as some of my favorite films here

I'm also a big lover of the ballet and the city I live in has a large company which I go to watch every chance I get, the last one I saw was swan lake and it was wonderful :) I've found it's a great source of inspiration when it comes to choreography on the page. when writing large amounts of physical scenes ie. sex or action or what have you physical descriptors and body placements become tedious and repetitive and I like looking to dance as a source for differentiation in my own written choreography. If you're a writer I'd definitely recommend for physical aspects!

I also obviously really love art and although I wouldn't say I'm very well studied or deeply knowledgeable on the subject I know what I like and have a clear grasp on my tastes. I'm endlessly scrolling Pinterest for visuals that inspire me, and I'm also a big museum person and as I travel a fair amount, whenever I'm traveling I go to lots of museums.

not to sound cliche as well but music is also obviously and of course a big influence in my work. when I was writing greener memories of better men I'd initially gotten the idea from this random Facebook post I'd seen but the true tone of the story came from the song The Weight by The Band. After writing several different versions of Joel's so in depth I've found now I'm worried about becoming repetitive in my characterization of him which is tricky because it's extremely extremely important to me that my iterations of him be true to his canon personality. I'm not a big fan of an OOC Joel and it's important to me to always stay true to who I think he really is in his original story personality wise, u know? but at the same time it becomes difficult navigating the inevitability of monotony when writing the same character over and over again. so I suppose what I try to do each time is provide a different view of the same man. for some reason that song brought that version of him I was trying to write very into focus for me at that moment. I don't know if that makes a lot of sense lol but sometimes inspiration or direction arises from strange places.

I feel like I've talked too much about Nabokov this year but I've been very slowly studying his work this year and I feel he's been a huge influence on my tone and cadence as I've progressed. I feel like he switches between having a very complicated way of saying very simple things and then saying very complicated things in very simple ways. he's also a master at sentence structure - again when trying to avoid monotony - I like studying the way he crafts these truly complicated sentences into a single monolith without ever actually breaking any rules of grammar or if he does it's in a way that doesn't seem wrong, if u know what I mean. he also comes up with he strangest metaphors for the smallest things. the last thing I read he describes a man's face as a "wet galosh" to tell us he was morose or sad or what have you and it's just soooo funny and interesting to me. I need my own mind to work in strange and creative ways like that, I'm trying to train it into doing so

hypothetical fights i want to see between the tot cast cuz it’d be fun to see how they’d fair in a fight to the death (just kidding. i mean a friendly fight as an appreciation of combat skills)

inspired by a convo i had with @samsspambox . i’d like to make it clear that when i say 'fight' here i mean a physical fight, a scuffle, some good ol fashioned "nothing personal just wanna see who would win" FISTICUFFS!!!!

with no weapons allowed, heres who i'd pay good money to see go at each other with only their unarmed martial expertise

The Battling Butler VS Agent Raven (aka ogier vs luke)

ogier is so badass. i love a fighty dude and hes dressed to the nines and he hilariously drags vyn every once in a while, whats not to love?

but yeah, clear in my memory is his combat prowess in vyn’s personal story 4. i dont know anything about ogier past that, but given that he was sent as a guard from svart by vyn’s father, i can only assume his training is of the royal guard quality type of level. thats intense!

though we also know luke is ALSO INSANELY INTENSE....

i think a spar between them would be really fucking close, irt who bests who. luke is NSB’s top agent, but i assume ogier is incredibly well trained also, youve gotta be Damn Good to be a guard of anyone remotely of royal importance

so like, what luke has got going in his favor is his NSB training obviously but also

luke has youth on his side

HSKJHFDKVJHGVSD HEAR ME OUT! aside from his illness, hes at the top of his game in terms of prime age range for physical peak, did u kno that the average age for olympic competitors is early 20s? well now u know. body can be in good shape at this point, thats a plus for him and a not-plus for ogier. idk how old ogier is (and i cant find out cuz he doesnt even have a Big Data Lab entry omfg the man the mystery the LEGEND) but he looks Older, a little past his prime. even skill cant negate the woes of aging.

buuuuuut ogier has a trump card: his training was probably completely different to anything luke is used to.

now we dont know very much about luke’s days in the NSB, but i get the impression that his work was Generally Within The Country Of Stellis OR Generally Handling People Who Are Stellans.

ogier is not a stellan. hes svartan. or svartish. or however the hell we decide to conjugate the nationality of svart. additionally, i can see it being a huge advantage for svartan guards to be keeping their training/fighting style under wraps. if opponents dont know how you’ll fight, u can catch em unaware

ogier’s fight style and tactics could be completely novel to luke, which would knock luke down a peg (both figuratively and metaphorically).

still, luke is adaptable and hes got a quick and intuitive mind. while he cant fight exactly like ogier, he’d be able to recover and figure out his own way of countering ogier’s attacks

with all that said, my personal verdict of who would win is.....//drumroll!!

nobody!

it’s a tie!

and luke enthusiastically brings ogier out for drinks later, he hasnt been tied in a match for years and hes kinda giddy about it!

(luke: you have to teach me some of your moves sometime, yeah?

ogier: of course. and perhaps you could encourage vyn to join this class as well? haha.

luke: haha.

ogier: haha.

luke: hahaha.....no. im pretty sure vyn is capable of destroying me psychologically, im not making him do anything he doesnt wanna do, thanks.

The Battling Butler VS The Perplexingly Over-Capable Assistant (aka ogier vs vincent)

remember when luke in main story 7.2 said this in the case files?

yeah. YEAH IVE GOT MY EYE ON YOU, VINCENT KIM!!!

vincent’s investigative prowess aside, i just think it makes sense for vincent to have some kind of combat knowledge for the following reasons:

1) currently, marius has nearly gotten stabbed a total of three (3) times. while marius has his own self defense knowledge, i wouldnt put it past vincent to get some training in as well juuuuusssstt in case knife-magnet von hagen gets into hot water again.

2) it’s unexpected. vincent does not look the type to punch anybody in the face, and thus i want him to be capable of a mean right hook

3) if nobody expects u to throw a punch, that punch can land way easier.

that being said, i dont think he’ll beat ogier at all. my view is that vincent took some classes and that his self defense training is a little bit above marius’ skill level, but it’s nothing that can go against a trained royal bodyguard

still, ogier can be caught unaware. vincent maybe gets like a few hits in before ogier takes him down

so my verdict is: ogier would win but would be very impressed by vincent for managing to fool him

ive got no rationale for this

i just think theyre hilariously pathetic and i wanna see them fight in a hilariously pathetic way, like the one scene in Bridget Jones’ Diary

absolute cringefail combat, this is what i WANT

maybe whoever loses has to be the one to face mc in court next, and neither of them wanna be the poor shmuck to have to get annihilated by her again

my verdict: ingrid has to break the fight up (which is happening in the baldr legal office lobby) and everybody involved loses. everybody loses their dignity

10) Describe the character in one sentence

Second fastest and first pinkest boy in Blue Lock becomes instrumental to protagonist's success and deserves way more love and appreciation AND BACKSTORY THAN WE GET (thank god we finally got his profile at least).

mmmmm i think kurona is the quiet type who probably doesn't really share unless asked, so it SEEMS like he has secrets when really he's just like "oh, you wanted to know?"

although i can absolutely see kurona secretly having admired kaiser as a u-20 striker (speed of the kaiser impact) except now he absolutely cannot let ANYONE know that bc that would be SO EMBARRASSING

screaming and crying you’re so sweet thank you 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 okay lemme try to tell u a bit about her but fair warning every time I talk about my ocs I feel like I’m metaphorically putting on rollerblades and flailing and falling and exploding 👍🏻

(also after I’ve typed all this out I’m realizing I should put a trigger warning for domestic abuse and vague implied infanticide)

so fjóla is a leopard seal selkie and lilija’s mother (whom she looks nothing alike, babygirl is the spitting image of her spotted seal father) who is deceased within the like, “current” timeline my characters are set. she was born into a group of selkies that lived their lives mostly as seals as opposed to integrating into society as most selkies in this universe do; the status quo is more or less for selkies to live near or on water and spend time as both seals and humans, but more traditional ones like fjóla and her pack will remain seals for the vast majority of their lives, only occasionally partaking in humanoid environments.

however, she did unfortunately end up living most selkies’ nightmare; her coat was taken and she was trapped in a house with a man she didn’t love and a child she was forced to bear, the main twist being that her “husband” (they never officially married but it’s an easier shorthand), steingrímur, was actually a selkie as well. to make a long story short because this ain’t about him, him and his family became traitors to their local community by helping a gang of dangerous poachers hunt the other selkies for their coats in exchange for immunity. the deal began with steingrímur’s grandfather, and they operated this way in secrecy up until steingrímur was a young adult. by this time, his father and his grandfather had become much more callous about the terrible things they were doing, and began developing a sort of self-hatred fueled “code,” beginning to believe that selkies were a weak, defenseless species that were only ever known for being taken and owned by stronger predators, so it was their responsibility to “rise above” the rest of them and train themselves up as superior superpredators. steingrímur was groomed from the ground up with this mindset, and his “initiation” as a hunter was to capture a particularly fierce leopard seal with a beautiful, pure white coat, which was ofc fjóla. his capture of her coincided with the rest of their local community finding out what exactly their family business entailed, and they had were deemed traitors and had to flee. steingrímur absconded with fjóla and fled while his father and grandfather were captured and essentially community-executed a la ken mcelroy lol.

anyway, all that to say—she was a miserable woman. her coat was taken and sold for a hefty price (its color was pure and rare, on top of the selkie coat black market paying big money for such an illicit good, as in this universe, a selkie’s coat can really only be obtained ethically by being inherited, willingly handed over, etc), she was forced to move somewhere where she knew nothing and nobody, and she had to learn to live life as a human as she had no other option. and she had to do all of it with a very sick, abusive man who held beliefs diametrically opposed to the ones she was raised with—she wanted to live life as a free animal in the open ocean, while her “husband” looked down on her for not getting with the times and abandoning instincts that don’t serve her, and as he sees it, got her captured. he essentially kept her as a trophy. as a cook. and as the vessel that would bear his protege.

she was not cruel in the slightest but she had trouble with warmth and compassion in a conventional sense. her only motherly instincts were very objective; feed the baby, change the baby, put the baby to bed. try not to smother the baby as you stare down at her in her crib, thinking it the only way to guarantee she escapes the man you never could. both her nails and her long, jagged, sharp teeth were kept clipped after she gave steingrímur one too many scars, and she was eventually further sedated with medication and alcoholism. as her daughter grew older, fjóla’s love language primarily became warnings and harbingers of doom; she warned lilija not to be coveted, captured, or desired for her beauty as so many of their species are. she taught her to look over her shoulder at every turn, trust no one, and assume the worst. you don’t want to be a mother or a wife. look at what it’s done to me. promise me you’ll never let anyone close enough to make that happen. promise me that you’ll remember nothing is more important than your freedom. promise me you’ll stop looking more and more like your father every day.

she sometimes waded out into the ocean, forgetting to shed her clothes first, and pretended for seconds at a time that if she wanted to, she could pull her coat over her shoulders and swim away.

anyway. fjóla is very much a character I created to explore motherhood, womanhood, isolation, flattening someone into an image or a memory or a ghost rather than a real person, inherited fear and rage and repression between mother and daughter…she was of course abused and unwell, but the things she told and taught lilija in her formative years played a huge part in lilija’s paranoia regarding interpersonal relationships and how difficult it is for her to form them. fjóla ended up being less a person and more a symbol in everyone’s eyes; a symbol of accomplishment and dominance to steingrímur, and a symbol of every fear and every nightmare any seal woman has ever had to her daughter.
