I'm announcing to anyone who cares that I'm going to be watching SPOP for the first time since I was about ten, but before I do, here is everything I recall about the characters:

There's a girl with a sword who turns into a butch lesbian whose name I can't remember. I think she is the main character but that might be Glitter

Butch lesbian girl has an evil girlfriend who is apparently a hot furry. I can confirm. A large number of people insist she is toxic, but I am saving my judgement until I watch the show again. She also apparently runs an evil empire of some sort.

There is another girl called Glitter who is also a lesbian I think?? This is unclear, as I have seen her shipped with both the hot furry and the butch girl, but also with an archer himbo dude. She may be bisexual. I am not entirely sure how she fits into the story, but I do know she has mommy issues.

Archer himbo dude is a prince I think?? This is also unclear, but I have gathered that he is best boy and the only good man in the universe, which is very cool.

There is someone named Seahawk who likes to sing, and he has a mermaid gf named (very creatively) Mermista, who is apparently the SPOP version of Mai.

Evil empire furry also apparently has parents of some sort who are very toxic? I gather that one is a witchy sort of person and the other looks like a chaotic version of the terminator. Hot furry also has a stepmother who is very cute and autistic and has giant pigtails and is very smart. I don't know exactly how they fit into the story either, but pigtail stepmom seems like the MVP.

There is also a princess of some sort who acts like Toph. I believe her name is Frosta and she is basically the short version of Elsa but a lot more violent. I am not entirely sure why she is a princess? Is she archer himbo dude's brother? (I have so many questions)

There is an annoying unicorn with very pretty hair

That's all I know but I'm excited to learn more!

People calling Hobie×Miles (punkflower) shippers proshippers as if we didn't ship them for longer than the movie even came out will always be crazy to me.

I've seen lots of people sending threats, or reporting people because they made punkflower, goldenflower (pavxhobie), ghostbyte (gwenxmargo), flowerbyte (margoxmiles), etc, arts or videos. Going to assume that it isn't because most of these ships are POCs ships, there's just literally no point to do that.

First of all, there's no confirmation of hobie's age. If ur basing urself of that one interview, then it was of the CONCEPT of hobie, and even so remember it was only one person who said it. Its heavily implied thats he's a teenager throughout the movie. (Also in the art book, its said that he's slightly older than Miles).

For the thing about him going to the pub and all, minors can and will go in pubs, (not saying that its always legal) are yall living under a rock or just dense on purpose? Teenagers do wtv the fuck they want, even when theyre not allowed to. Youre all going to tell me teenagers respect the rules of not drinking and go to clubs becuz theyre underage? Come off it. Also hobie literally merked his president and u think he'd draw the line at drinking alcohol as a minor? HA.

Aside from that, to be fair to everyone, the directors keeps on changing what they're saying about hobies age, one day they'll say and imply he's a minor and the next second say he's an adult. It's like they all have different idea of this character's age. So, nothing is really comfimed, and his age is really up to interpretation.

Now that we're past THAT point, the other kind of people talking about his age are people saying "oh but he looks old" "that man is most definitely 30yo" "there's no way he's underage" things of the sort, u get it. And I'm just over here like??? Why is it impossible for you to think that this guy could be a teen? Is it the air? The wrinkles? What makes it seem like for you that there's no way he could be around the other teens' age? And 30??? Cmon. People often assume black people are older than they look, which is a universal experience for all of us. Did none of u ever see a blk teen who doesnt have a baby face? Because thats literally what hobie looks like to me. To others we can seem too "mature" for our age, or just look too "old" to be the age we say we are, so is it really impossible for him to be a teenager? Think about it.

(Speaking of him being black, this discourse turned into some kind of racist thing that honestly was not unexpected at all. Yall come over here shitting on people talking and educating u about a character they relate to cuz hes like them, and the representation is making them go bonkers. I don't know why yall can just sit ur arses and listen for a bit, its not that difficult tbh. And dont get me started on the mischaracterisation of his character. Marking him as "an angry black man"? Really? Be. Fucking. Original.)

Same goes with Margo?? Yeah in the comics she's in college, but cmon now u guys know damn well she's a teenager in atsv😭. Gwen is also much older in the comics but i never see anyone talk about it, so what does that mean???The only reasons I can see that you all don't want Miles & margo to be together is because you're all stuck on the milesxgwen ship. News everyone, other ships exist, not everyone is going to like the same ships as you, so either move on or stop being on the Internet.

Also, the thing about pav being 13 is bonkers, where'd u even get that from? I need to know asap. "Oh, but he has a gf!" Yeah? Well he has two hands. (Idk why u all act as if that has ever stopped anyone)

Everything just seem like a race thing to me tbh.

The movies might be inspired from the comics, but not everything is going to be 100% the same. For exemple: gwen is 2 yrs older than Miles in the comics, but in movies she's only 15 months older, Jess Drew is white in the comics and black in the movie, Miguel O'hara is white passing in the comics, compared to his version in atsv where he has brown skin, lyla's disign is also different.

You get it? Things are going to differ as much as things are going to be the same, because (get ready!!) this is the multiverse! Just as earth-616 is just one universe in all the marvel comics, atsv is another universe.

All in all, im not saying u can't view them as adults, or wtv u want, thats ur interpretation, but don't go around being pissy at people around u cuz they have different point of views.

Okay so I unknowingly got involved in some Sunny discourse earlier and um... did not mean to. Sorry.

My autistic ass saw 'Dennis hates Mac' and got frustrated BC on my tumblr feed that seems like all I see anymore and I'm tired of sifting through negative posts. It's also important to mention that I was coming at things from the 'I've been exposed to way too much r/iasip' mindset, where the discourse is entirely discouraged because people are so adamant that Dennis only hates Mac (as in, he despises him and just wants him to leave him alone always).

Anyway, given this, I feel the need to clarify the way I see their relationship, and that I definitely don't think there's no resentment on Dennis' end. Of course Mac pisses him off, because Dennis doesn't understand where all this devotion is coming from (imo). His self-esteem is so cripplingly non-existent, despite the exterior he shows, that it does genuinely baffle him that somebody could see so much worth in him.

Mac is loyal to a fault. He pursues Dennis even when the latter gives him no regard at all, and is constantly seeking his approval, which inevitably leads to more disapproval on Dennis' end.

Does this disapproval ultimately= hate? I don't know. I'm not in RCG's heads.

What I do know, though, is that sunnyblr is a mess of negativity and all I want to do is have that... not be so? Idk.

I want there to be an appreciation for the richness of this show, and when I see comments like 'Dennis hates Mac' without any context, yeah, I get fired up, because wayyyy too much of r/iasip (for example) is people shutting down Macdennis because of that exact reason and ignoring how complex their relationship really is.

There's too much discourse and I really didn't intend to make more, especially not about shipping because (and I genuinely believe this):

SHIP WHO YOU WANT!!!

idc if you ship charden or charmac or idk is there anything going on w frank ??? (this is making me realise that Frank fans are living the dream, there is absolutely no discourse about his ships lmaooo)

I'm not gonna respond to your other ask, mainly because I don't want to engage in shipping discourse and frankly I don't really care what was in the previous drafts. The draft that got published is all that I care about, because that's the version Nora herself stands by as the official, final version and really, it's the only one that matters.

When I tweeted that I thought Nora was trolling us, it wasn't because I thought she was necessarily lying about renandrew being a thing in her previous drafts. Its entirely plausible that they were. As Nora herself has said, she's shipped all of her characters with each other at some point. This story has lived in her head since she was a teenager. The characters and their relationships are bound to have evolved and changed over time.

No, I think she's trolling because people keep asking her questions and getting mad at her answers, and instead of continuing to tip-toe around those people, she's decided to rile them up with the most controversial things she can conjure up from the previous drafts.

And honestly, I can't say I blame her. As much vitriol as she's gotten on Twitter in recent months, I'd personally be tempted to say "fuck it" and do the same. At least this way she gets to have fun instead of spending her writing time doing damage control.

warnings: nothing tbh. just a short and sweet sydcarmy blurb (platonic or not idc. i ship them, doesn't mean u have to <3!)

"Do you remember when everyone thought it was a great idea to bring back these fuckin'— " Sydney paused, coating her fingertip in the coffe cake batter left over on the silicone spatula, and licking it clean.

"Oh, that's good—these stupidly expensive jello molds from the 60s?" She kept her eyes on the jello mold that hung up in Carmen's kitchen, assuming that it was most likely a gift from a family friend who didn't know the first thing about baking, or any form of culinary arts for that matter.

"And everyone just thought jello was a good compromise for, like–I don't know, actual dessert?"

"Yeah," Carmen let out a breathy laugh as he reached for the counter over Sydney's head for ground cinnamon, "Fak got it f'me as like a housewarming gift. Haven't used it once." He carefully poured in 4 teaspoons of cinnamon into a bowl of brown sugar and flour.

Sydney and Carmen had been flipping through endless amounts of basic and generic desserts, just to see if they'd have the inspiration to spice any of them up. But nothing seemed to light that spark of motivation. So, they were left with coffee cake as a last resort.

"I mean, no hate against jello. It's pretty, but.." Sydney trailed off as she poured a cup of cool, melted butter into that same bowl. Her and Carmen had a tendency to insist that everything had to be a 2 person job.

"But it's not coffee cake." Carmen turned his head to Sydney, finishing her sentence for her. Her lips curled up into a smile, her front teeth slightly visible while she nodded her head and looked right into Carmen's eyes in agreement.

"Yeah. Or, y'know, a cannoli."

"Jesus, Sydney. Stop." Carmen shook his head, smiling hard as he kept his eyes glued to the counter in hopes that Sydney wouldn't notice that he was laughing at her mean jokes.

"You know I'm not letting that go!" She glanced at Carmen again, the sunlight beaming from the window reflecting on his gold chain that poked out from underneath his black sweater. It was almost like her sign to look away; her sign that Carmen would look right back at her.

It was her sign that she'd fall apart if their eyes locked, and she'd have to build herself back up the second he turned away.

can u explain the concept of the death of the author? i understand there is always more than angle to approach and interpret things from anyways and people dont have to agree fully. but like how does this make sense in fandoms? so far in my experience in mxtx fandoms i feel like it is used dismissively to justify a person’s headcanons or misinterpretations or misrepresentations of the text or characters or romance. obv the author doesn’t control the text once it is published but ti imply like you know better about their characters or text when they write tight narratives like mxtx seems kinda weird to me lol

Hello there anon.

Well, from what I can preface what this means is simply: a literary theory that argues that the meaning of a text is not determined by the author's intention, but rather by the reader's interpretation.

Authorial intent and theme establishment is irrelevant here, in theory it relies on what the reader feels it means and is reader-centric in practice. The text of the work is not the point, it is what it makes me, the reader, feel about the execution of plot device and what I think it is about from a personal perception and what my final interpretation of it is as a whole regardless of textual passage thematics and authorial intent for why this is written the way it had been.

Now, I'm not a fan of this literary theory. It's pretty much my most disliked literary analysis approach since there is little point in trying to argue that one personal reaction is relevant next to the other come time for example and author intention that can and will dismiss what I may have unintentionally assumed, and still choose to despite it having no concrete basis from the text itself.

This has been twisted in fandom space, especially within the past 20 years now to mean, I do not like this or care about author end goal and will use death of the author to claim textual validity (or hey no textual basis because impulse first) that is not or has no merit other than my personal want and feelings.

I can argue for something nebulous as thinking Madam Yu did care about Wei Wuxian, because I may want to see her reactions as parental due to personal experiences, but we are not given this within the work nor is it ever implied. But I can choose to say death of the author here, because my personal interpretation/experience tells me it is so. This also veers into ship discourse, the author straight out will say no other men in book are romantically involved and do not feel romantic inclination, but, I think there is chemistry and sexual tensions within their interactions, therefore my interpretation trumps that of author intent due to my assumption.

My personal interpretation is above that of author meaning of thematics they wanted to explore. My unintended themes I see are most important. I see something here that the author didn't want or need to explore for the work, therefore I can sit in a nebulous space that works for fandom exploration. This gets tricky when the fandom interpretation starts to run counter productive to the work itself, as with the likes of Jiang Cheng. He is not meant to be a good role model or a positive position by author intent, but fandom can begin to carve him into something that is not intentional and death of the author begins. The death of the author interpretations become popular while running counter point to the original intention and it begins to be argued from the start the death of the author theory was meant all along despite the contrary.

1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care anymore?

Glorestor or Glorfindel / Erestor of Middle Earth Fanon Fame. Not that I don't CARE about it anymore, mind you. There's just not enough new content (for obvious reasons god it's old and there's like one conversation of original source material). I don't think about them as much anymore. Like I used to be reading fanfic EVERY NIGHT and we're talking like novel length fanfics (as you can imagine people in the LOTR fandom write lol). Anyway here's some super old fan art... (>u<)

2. Which ship would you consider your first one?

Oh god...something Dynasty Warriors related for sure...

Probably like Sun Ce / Zhao Yu or Gan Ning / Lu Xun. (GO WU! lol) I feel like there were other couples I'm totally forgetting right now...but yeah god I love Dynasty Warriors...

Also...daaamn Gan Ning looks good there I should go buy the latest game. (>w<)

3. Your first fanfic belonged to which couple?

Like the first one I wrote or read?? I went into my oldest of old "old writing" folders and found this list of docs that I haven't been touched in over ten years. SO I'm gonna saaaay it was a Dynasty Warriors fanfic...one of these pairings. (^ ^;)

Also kind of hilarious to see that I literally still organize my fanfic files in the same way for over half my fucking life ago...nice...

4. Do you remember the first couple you saw a fanart over?

I feel like it would have been something Inuyasha related. That or something Final Fantasy X. I do not remember, but it was probably some version of these scene.

5. Did you ever get into ship discourse?

Not that I can remember...do not need this in my life...lol but maybe I've reblogged some RPF like discourse? Like the "should or shouldn't you ship" type discussions. I'm on the side of "do whatever you want but don't send it to the famous people" [ex. like ATEEZ fanfic/fanart] or "if they are literally doing it as part of their promo go ahead, it's for fun/they literally requested it as part of their promo" [ex. BillyBabe]. (^ ^;)

6. Did you used to have any no-otp or have it currently?

It honestly always depends on the quality of the fanart or the fanfic because even a notp can turn into a OH!tp if it's good enough. [Exhibit a: my Phaya/Tharn/Chalothorn fanfic]

7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read?

Weirdly the one new Chalothon/Singh fic from The Sign. But I really need AO3 to fix the spelling of his name in the tag...

8. Currently, do you have any OTPs?

Still wish John Wick / Santino fucked...also like James Bond / Q and The Protagonist / Neil and Arthur / Eames...bromance is SUCH a waste but considering the genres of these movies it is never gonna happen...I have to wait for the Thai BL versions lol (^ ^;)

10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting?

OH I haven't been traumatized by watched it yet, but Dead Friends Forever has made me get onboard with Macau/Chay of KinnPorsche fame because OMG LOOK AT THESE CUTIES!!!!

11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, was considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?

GOD I remember there was a LOT of Sesshomaru x Inuyasha yaoi when I was a kid LMFAO like...straight up cancelled...I dunno if it was normal back then but no yaoi was normal back then so like it sadly all got lumped together or something...then again looking at some of the comics that are coming out these days...

12. What was your favorite crack ship?

All the McFassy ships from back in the day like OMG REMEMBER JUNGKOV?? STELIOS AND LETO??? ARCHIE AND ROBBIE? SO MANY CROSSOVERS!!

Ahhhh I don't know...I usually either write a lot or read a lot...I literally have a fic rec list for Glorestor lol and then when I look in my AO3 bookmarks the top ship is Hannigram sooooo let's say Hannigram even though I haven't read one for a while.

14. What most of your ships usually have in common?

toll and smol...i like me a toll and a smoll...lol or big and small...i dunno something something contrast something something just crush him and/or be uncharacteristically gentle or somehow incapacitate the larger man with your wiles...that is all...

15. What do you absolutely hate in a ship?

about the pro shipping post you are so fucking right. when i was 16 i had proship dni on an aesthetic blog that i ran and i had multiple people harassing me for it over months. i've also had them call me ableist and homophobic slurs and sexually harass me when i was 16-18 for untagged unsearchable posts that they had to have scrolled back months in my blog to find. i was in a fandom at the time that had a LOT of people like that and there were many other people who got worse and had proshippers being wildly racist to them. they say curate your online experience and then throw a fit when you actually do.

Hi i'm sorry I didn't respond to this sooner! I was most likely absorbed entirely in skyrim Once Again.

Yeah, the proship movement has a tendency to harbor the absolute worst people in fandom circles and when you say "Hey if your movement is Truly Safe for victims/people of color /disabled folks/kids/etc then why the fresh sam hill fuck are you harboring Actual Racists, Actual Pedophiles, And Actual Horrible People" they take it as "kys lol go die" and not a request to Actually examine how their stances on something as terminally online as shipping discourse and the culture that it founded has sheltered these types of people.

And it's this inaction and refusal to address it in favour of perceiving it as a siege in a war that isn't actually happening (for lack of a better way to word it, no, people aren't out to get you they're asking you to examine your fucking community and WHY so many people feel unsafe around it aside from other reasons) is why I, and so many others, are in dislike of proshipping culture aside from. well. gestures wildly to the rest of it.

They take it as a blow to their egos rather than a genuine honest "Hey if what you ship Truly Is Inconsequential why does the culture you cultivate harbor, say, Actual Offending Pedophiles or Those Pedophiles That Label Themselves As "No-Contact" For Some Reason As If That Makes It Less Bad that are utilizing fandom space and proship culture as a quick and easy way to get targets within their reach?"

Side tangent/note here: Over the years many people have said that I cannot be pro-dark media and anti-proship. These things are not mutually exclusive and many, and I mean MANY people in circles focussing on dark and transgressive media are FULLY AWARE of the connection between reality and fiction (and how they both affect one another, the best way I can word it is that if you focus on one color pallet soon your world will be monochromatic, you gotta learn to focus on all the colors. If you saturate your life with too much "dark" or distressing content it will color your worldview and that is not what life is about) and often emphasize the importance of this distinction.

They also do not go out of their way to overly-romanticize the content they read (the public perception/general society's consumption of Lolita [vladimir nobokov] has been a disaster for the human race. if u think lolita is supposed to be a cute romance story you're misinterpreting the book and need to step back and examine just why you think that way and actually sit down and analyze the book and humbert as a character dear god stop turning it into a cutesy coquette aesthetic, shanespeare has a fucking amazing video talking about it and as an added bonus it's shorter than the typical 4+ hour video essays I often indulge in) as they often know better to do so and shun the people who do, ESPECIALLY when you're talking about books like The Slob (Aron Beauregard, even though that novel is essentially misogyny, homophobia, gore porn, a lot of fatphobia and shit like that and is all-around poorly written)

proshipping culture also relies a lot on a fanfic/fanart medium which is a VASTLY inappropriate place to explore these things (on top of, well, the type of people the culture has a tendency to attract n shit vs transgressive/dark media corners) and People Do Not Want To See Headcanons About Their Favourite Characters Being Rapists And Shit Like That I Promise You You Aren't "Coping" You're Just Making (some not all) People Around You Uncomfortable And Fucking Miserable Because You Decided That Their Comfort Character Is A Shotacon Or Some Shit (and that is before I get into how unless that character is canonically a piece of shit, making x character into a freak is a gross mischaracterization).

People come into fandoms for escapism, or to enjoy characters and stories with people and, yes I am speaking from personal experience here not only as ex-proship but also someone who's been 'round the block when it comes to fandoms.

There is a difference between transgressive lit i.e Lolita and someone writing a fanfic about a father/daughter relationship and not in the wholesome familial way we all know and love. That is knowing your place, understanding that fandom is a WILDLY inappropriate place to explore these things (seriously people, just write an original book! you got it in you clearly! i believe in you and maybe if you do it right you'll write something that's very touching and profound and opens up a lot of conversations!) and that fiction and reality do in fact impact and shape each other in more ways than you'd initially assume.

anyways rant/tangent over, sorry I went on for so long, I'm Very passionate about this discussion despite everything that's happened to me at the hands of it.

was it intentional making dave and kanayas changes reflect the names of the rejected/lost endgame ships? Dave is now davecat (ala davekat) as he loses karkat in the fallout of all this, and kanaya becomes Mary, the remaining half of Rosemary now that rose has died. was this intentional? And, further, assuming this wont be expounded on later in the fic due to its entirely meta nature, how do you feel the changes reflect their characters, with Dave INCORPORATING the phonetic match of davekat, and kanaya Explicitly Removing the rose? Or is all this just nonsense?

the davecat/davekat pun is intentional, and kanaya choosing "mary" out of rosemary is also intentional, but i hadn't actually thought much about how they mirror each other in their relationship to their relationships! dave doesn't think of himself as catdave of course, but the presence of that pun in the reader's mind certainly helps reinforce the fact that davekat didn't explicitly *break up.* actually you know what i'm gonna go on an extended tear about some dualism because i want to, regardless of how on topic it is

i've said before that i wanted godfeels kanaya in 3.2 onwards to echo kanaya in homestuck^2. in hs2, her divorce fever manifests through the adoption of a nun's attire and a distant longing for her wife. kind of a "when will my beloved return from the war" type thing.

i remember folks having a problem with that interpretation of kanaya being passive in a ooc way? but i think it's notable we never got far enough to see her in action, and let's remember that she's still ON the ship headed to deltritus, to rescue rose and kick dirk's ass. so you know. it's hard not to be passive when you're stuck on a ship waiting to arrive at plot

(which is a criticism of hs2 i appreciate, even if i don't entirely agree for a number of reasons we definitely don't have time for)

so anyway, the thing about hs2 kanaya is that her wife disappeared without talking to her. it's not just that she's separated from her wife, fundamentally there's a betrayal involved-- which the characters (and thus the readers) sublimate into anger at dirk for having manipulated and controlled rose into going down that path in the epilogues... but i think it's genuinely up for debate whether or not rose was, in fact, altogether 100% mind-controlled by dirk. is she really under his thrall, or is she playing into the role because it's better than dying of existential migraine? or because she's bored of her life on earth c and wants to spice things up in the bedroom with reaaaaaaaaaally extended foreplay? rose has always been a melodramatic bitch after all, that's what everyone forgets loves about her!

[relitigating long dead fandom discourse voice] just because rosemary means a lot to you as Queer Representation doesn't change the fact that gay people also suck! like they literally got married at age 16, have some fucking perspective

of course to my mind it's even an open question whether rosemary divorce fever in hs2 was straight up an agreed-upon longform romantic roleplay. i mean what better way to larp your femknight in shining nunarmor ravishing you romantically from the clutches of the weeaboo dragon fantasy than Literally Making It Happen In Real Life? you see i liked hs2 precisely because it had an ambiguity of purpose in its characters that lent itself to all sorts of juicy interpretations. yeah they probably plodded around in that a bit too long, but let's not pretend that the fandom ever approached hs2 with even a sliver of patience or good faith to see its ideas through to the end

so anyway mary in godfeels is similarly betrayed, but in a very different way. the question of why rose didn't bother letting kanaya in on any of the things she knew is wrapped tight in barbed wire. contemplating it is an unavoidable act of self-harm. it's a question that can't be answered, but will linger forever. mary has to wonder if killing her wife was truly necessary, if there was another option, if rose's visions were truly infallible... or if rose just couldn't think of a better way to end things between them. those are just a few of the many questions that can haunt you when a loved one dies unexpectedly

so mary is a post-rose kanaya who has to choose between obsessing over the loss of her wife or moving on into a completely new existence. now then, on the flipside of that you've got dave, who doesn't have that same dividing line between his First Real Relationship and the rest of his life. he says to himself "karkat will wait for me," and so presumably intends to find his way back to earth c sooner or later. but he also has to live in the present, deal with his own shit, continuing to grow and change in unknowable ways. so where mary has to accept that it's okay to become a person her wife would not recognize, dave has to confront whether he can live with himself if he becomes someone that karkat won't recognize. he has to interrogate whether or not his boyfriend's unconditional love will remain unconditional as the two of them grow and change apart from one another.

so yeah, there's some juicy dramatic resonance in the davecat & mary puns. which, you know, will almost certainly have no intersection with june's situation or dana's situation or lenore's situation hahaha

To Pale Nightmare shippers reading this: I am given to understand that listing a ship name in the body of a post can and does make it show up in the main tag, which is… unfortunate, as I do not want this there. Understand that I didn't tag this, out of respect, and I am so sorry for the following rant potentially showing up on your dashes. I respect your right to ship whatever you want, and I do not want to sound like I am pushing my views on anyone.

I will further disclaim this response with: Shipping discourse is not something I want to be involved in. I fully, 100% do not want to get into a debate about who's ship is and isn't right. As far as I am concerned, if you tag it correctly, it's none of my business.

Sorry for all the disclaimers, I just know that it's very easy to offend people when you talk about the things they love in a negative light. I am sure you are just curious, anon, but this is Tumblr, and this hellsite loves to read bad faith in things.

So without further adieu -- why Ashe does not like Pale Nightmare.

The first thing you should know is my headcanons for the Pale King. They consist of: This man did every single thing in his power to stave off his kingdom's death. He created the stasis, the whole vessel plan disaster, everything, to prolong the life of Hallownest.

The second thing you should know is my headcanon for Grimm: He represents the death of kingdoms (this is canon) and the natural order of things transitioning from one experience to another. The end of a life, to fuel the existence of the next one.

And the third thing you should know is: I read the "dear Wyrm" as dripping in sarcasm. The first part of Grimm's dialogue referring to PK actively calls him a worm. This to me is not the kind of dialogue that suggests someone who likes the person they are speaking of. Pale Nightmare to me doesn't work for the simple belief that Grimm actively represents everything that the Pale King has spent his entire regency fighting to prevent. Here is a man who did everything to try and stop the death of his kingdom, and there is the living embodiment reminding him that he will never fully succeed, of death on scarlet wings.

At base level, it is my belief that Grimm would just be a bad reminder to the Pale King. Perhaps they'd respect one another as contemporaries, and in different scenarios, maybe even be cordial. But romantic? I cannot see it. I cannot see them even being really friends.

And some of that ties in to the fact that Grimm is very much a representative of death and the natural order. The Pale King literally is trying to prevent what Grimm needs to survive (the death of kingdoms and the flames that come with it). Even if you ignore my separate headcanons, this is fact per canon. So if you add in that I also headcanon Grimm as being firmly of the opinion that death is natural and running from it is to flee the inevitable, you have a recipe for: the Pale King represents a lot of things Grimm himself looks down on.

Some other headcanon elements that tie into this problem I have is:

Grimm as I write him is the Radiance's brother. Even if he doesn't like his sister, the fact that the Pale King took over her territory probably doesn't exactly Spark Joy for him.

I CANNOT see Grimm approving of the vessel plan. Especially since he himself uses vessels for his rebirth. I cannot see him EVER approving of sacrificing one's own children in a gambit. He may understand the reasoning, but it is not a choice that he himself would ever make, and I do not think it is a choice that he could get past.

Conversely, I cannot see the Pale King looking at Grimm and ever trusting him - because he IS Radi's brother, as I see him, and the situation with Radi is Complicated

I also headcanon wyrms as being territorial and this is a Rival God in Your Territory (Do Not Like)

It is my firm belief that the Pale King's greatest fear is being reminded of/being shown his failure, and Grimm is a double whammy of that.

So no. No part of me sees it as working without completely gutting one or both characters to make it fit. Believe me, I've tried. There's an author on Ao3 whose writing I absolutely adore, who I think is a brilliant storyteller, and who I wish I could get on board with their ship for -- because they themself seem wonderful -- but I just can't get past the "They Would Not Fucking Do That" aspect and it stings. :<

funny that this is the same answer as the last question........ but H*lbrand in ROP. I mean, it's not hate hate, I think he's an interesting character and i have read fic with him that i liked, but the next person to go omg daddy sexy slut s*uron i want him to spank me or whatever? u get the KNIFE. develop some shame!

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

I think there are ... lots but it is sometimes annoying when people didn't want characters to die and it's like, okay, but that's the point of the story?

(saying this as i'm guilty of not wanting abner krill or bialar crais to die, but like, i can recognize i wouldn't have loved the stories as much if they had avoided their fates.)

14. that one thing you see in fics all the time

this is petty English major of me, but people use the wrong fucking words all the time, especially in the sort of... flowery sensual archaism tone that is so popular among younger fanfic writers. just so many misused words. i will close a fic and also if the mistake is funny enough make fun of it to my friends. (I like words a lot! but not blatant misuse. idk, use a dictionary.)

(this is not to shame second language English learners, who are often way more careful with words anyway? i'm talking about regular old first-language English speakers who are trying to make their prose better and accidentally make it worse.)

24. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse

where do i begin. so much rancid discourse on this website! any kind of petty ship wars or fandom wars and... uh-oh girls i feel a thought coming on

okay i'm going to attempt to say this next bit in a way that doesn't set the snipers on me, or alienate the people i know and love who enjoy them critically, because i have obviously watched m*rvel and t*p gun myself and read & enjoyed fic for them. but like: while there are obvious exceptions and there are plenty of fans reclaiming & reworking these fandoms, i think it can be a sign of immaturity to latch onto those giant blockbusters with obvious pro-imperialism pro-cop themes and not be able to take constructive criticism about your media diet. (see: "it's just escapism", "it's my comfort show", "it's just fiction it doesn't mean anything" etc.)

if pro-cop pro-imperialism media is a significant part of your media diet, you maybe need to consider branching out and watching stuff that isn't spoon-fed propaganda. and you need to be able to say, these are things within these films/shows that do not align with my own worldview; i enjoy it for these other reasons. ALL THAT TO SAY watch what you want whatever i ain't a cop but please do so with brain cells and also there is a wonderful world of non-cop/CIA propaganda out there that you might find you enjoy if you watch something other than Generic Blockbuster #72 because it stars one of the Chrises you like.

basically i think people on tumblr need to touch grass. my absolute favorite film of 2022 was Athena, a French film about brothers and their different approaches to police brutality, that had about 0 marketing. i wouldn't have discovered it if i only watched giant studio films.

ohh that's interesting haha but im glad you're not mean

welp, it's just one of my interests, ya know. My bachelor's thesis was about polyamory representation in media and just overall - it's history, how people are seeing it, how they react to it, how this kind of relationships works. Like, idk it's just interesting to me. Also, poly is kinda part of lgbt+ community, but it isn't exactly popular in media or and lgbt doesn't really talk about it as much as about trans or other orientations. Lately, people has taken an interest in polyamory, and not only in a sexual way but also as a romantic, beautiful relationship, and I guess im just part of this group.

and representation in media? Oh lord, don't let me start on that. There's like one or two good representation in movies/shows, while others are just toxic and all are doing are harden negative stereotypes.

Also, ive been a shipper since i was a little kid. Idk men, I just like idea of people loving each other. Movies and tv shows in 20's were all about love triangles, and honestly why? I mean, if you both love one person, and that person can't seem to chose because she also loves both of you, then... don't you see a solution? I mean, obviously, it isn't that easy in real life, but in a movies? Why not just let them love each other without drama.

Oh yes, another thing: fandom dramas. I hate those, truly. Ive been in many fandoms before, and in most of them there is that discourse 'ship A vs ship B" usually having "G+K or G+N" and people are literally throwing insults and kys at each other just because they can't accept that other people like different dynamics than them. That's stupid all in itself, but welp.. I guess polyamory is some kind of way of remis? I mean, in poly you can ship both ships without argument. They can be in open relationship or close, they can be triad or just one person loving two others. Like, in a fictional world, it's the best solution, isn't it? It's us who create characters' thoughts, dynamic, emotions... We *can* make it work!

So hm that would be that, I think? Love is beautiful and you can make it that way if u want to!

my first thought is mostly just why would anyone ever care about that. but like. as i have said before do whatever u want it's fanfiction have fun with it and of course i do not want to be drawn and quartered for my hypocrisy seeing as i have in fact written like. stories about very minor side characters. i suppose for me the thing is that what interests me in these minor characters is looking at how their canon stories could potentially intersect in the most devastating ways, so the main thing i don't personally understand is what people find interesting if they're removing the side characters from canon completely, because then they essentially just become. names. on paper. y'know?

so! not sure how or why people are shipping orion + fleamont but i suppose if it's rooted in some sort of....canon...where like they were in love but then took drastically different life paths or something? but then i do feel like there are other characters u can do that with, so again i'm not really sure i understand the draw to those guys in particular. it mostly just feels a little silly to me and well i suppose i can be a bit of a hater sometimes and i think maybe this is one of those times <3 but obviously there's no harm in anyone shipping them i might clown on u if u do but at the end of the day it is not that serious and people should just write whatever they want when it comes to fanfic.

The ask is just way too long and I don't usually post those. I get a lot of them, but I don't post them because it's kind of annoying and overwhelming. They're also redundant because I know everything you're talking about, I don't need a recount of every jikook interaction since 2020 because I know everything you know too.

I've also already said pretty much everything there is to say about them. I'm sure you can find some answers somewhere here.

In any case, the messages should be shorter next time.

I also wanted to point out how all the times you mention them hanging out, happened after June 2023, which is exactly what I say. That they didn't seem to hang out before that. Why do you think Jimin was seen with Hoseok all the time, they even talked about gaming at night together. They commented on each other stuff on weverse a few times. Jimin was seeing a lot of Yoongi and Hoseok until June 2023, and it showed. Then, Jimin was seeing Taehyung and Jungkook a lot AFTER July 2023, and that also showed when it started happening. Sometimes things are exactly what they seem.

You also didn't know that Jungkook was hooking up with women, and he would've never told you that. Because we were talking about mijoo too, when Jungkook did his vlog about the break in 2019, he only showed himself at the gym. But everyone knows he did a lot more than that, and met many people more apart from his trainer. So, messages like yours are redundant because no, you don't know everything about their lives and that could mean something "good", as well as it could mean something "bad".

Finally, I said this in another post too, but it didn't look to me like Namjoon and Jungkook were hanging out a lot either, just like he wasn't seeing Yoongi or Hoseok everyday. And I still believed they were all friends and loved each other. It's exactly the same with jikook. Them not hanging out regularly didn't make them enemies, it just made them not a couple. I don't think it's that hard to understand 😭

okay, so... there are so many things in those tweets i have issues with lol

the first being the judgment and policing. both tweets u shared w/ me have those vibes and i h8 those the most, in fandom space AND irl. just... why? let ppl enjoy what they what. I'm all about recommendations but not w/ this sort of disdain and condescension... they're just unnecessary.

the second is kinda related to the first in that it's all about preferences and circumstances... should be more open-minded and consider that, maybe, ppl LIKE actions and mysteries and whatever and the shipping is a side gig... we just happen to like the relationship dynamics between some characters within these media and we ship them.

honestly, ppl really, really need to learn to just not be bothered by what other people like.

the third thing being NOT EVERYTHING WITH INTENSE SAME SEX FRIENDSHIP IS QUEERBAITING. there are nuances to relationships beyond the typical heteronormative, allonormative, and amatonormative ones.

ngl but i never really understood why ppl thought some anime or drama are queerbaiting when friendships and kinships are just as intense, maybe even MORE intense than romance. and not everything is romance either, jesus christ... just because a relationship or a dynamic doesn't neatly fit with their version of how relationships work doesn't mean the creators are queerbaiting... relationships are so saturated with cultural and traditional nuances, even languages! and they can be very situational as well. idk why ppl insist on examining relationships from such narrowed lenses.

well, sorry about that... i just get really upset when i see that sort of bullshit discourse ya know? hence why im not on twt anymore lol

anyway, i totally agree with what u say about the subtext leaving rooms for fanfics and fanarts!!!

personally, it's what's left unsaid that motivates me to create fanwork!! it's the potential we could play around with that's interesting <3
