If they’re scared, who do they want comfort from? Does this answer change depending on the type of fear?

😔 true to robi.n form, i think bruce would be the most likely answer. there's several times where dick is on the brink of death or terrified of something that he either calls out for batm.an or mentally wishes or apologizes to him.

it takes a lot for dick to even get to the point where he thinks he's going to die & where he's like a reasonable level of scared though. i went through so many comics where i knew he almost died and like 99% of them were just him going 'phew that was a close one' like 🫥🫥🫥. he's very analytical and still trying to figure a way out up until like, truly last breath and even then his inner monologue is something about having to keep pushing. but kinda tied to that, even if he's not thinking of bruce when he's scared, he's thinking of what he taught him (and he's never wrong 😭)

but in terms of like... inner fears, or fear of inadequacy or like fear of his own faults i would reverse that and say not bruce. like i think b is very good at getting dick to push himself further & his praise means a lot to him, but i think a very real fear of his is who he will be without his father's approval. and in that regard, it's gotta be titan.s. in general like every titan has a very unique relationship with the others, but specifically i think donna, kory and roy would probably be chart toppers there. all of them a mix between comforting his fears and varying degrees of helping him realize that he is worthy regardless. i'd also say alfred is very, very good at both motivating dick & comforting dick when he's scared (especially of taking the next big step or living up to bruce's image). biggest example there is battle for the cow.l where dick was so determined not to hurt bman's legacy by taking over in his death, and alfred being the one to help him realize that he's needed and he will do as he always does, a good job.

the question i'm wondering now is whether suki, mai and ty lee ever get to visit the south pole, and how they're received there (especially by sokka and katara)

yes!!!! I think they would all kind of just invite themselves, except for ty lee, who is invited by aang, which katara thoroughly resents because she does not want that terrifying girl in her home, where she lives.

one day suki’s just like “so when are you gonna introduce me to your family” to which sokka is like “you’ve already met my dad and you know katara really well at this point???” and suki’s like “okay well when are you going to introduce me as your GIRLFRIEND” which sokka thinks is insane because she’s constantly asserting that she doesn’t subscribe to the valorization of the family or romantic relationships, and now she wants him to formally introduce her to his grandmother??? but he’s like okay. whatever. so he takes her to the south pole (it’s like 5 mins away from kyoshi island via air travel) and she adores his family and they adore her. and she gets really into learning about their culture, which they are more than eager to teach her, and she has a blast.

mai invites herself to the south pole when she and sokka are living together in ba sing se, because sokka gets a letter from hakoda telling him that kanna is sick so he should come home as quickly as possible just in case, and even though he doesn’t ask her to, mai is just like “of course im coming with you. i long to penguin sled.” and then katara gets really pissed and she’s like “why is she here” and sokka’s like “trust me i didn’t actually invite her.” and then katara writes a really emphatic letter to zuko complaining that mai is totally monopolizing her time with her family while she heals her gran gran (mai is just standing silently in the corner) and then zuko is like “what?!? your gran gran is sick and you didn’t tell me!!?!?!” so then he comes to the south pole and then he does actually monopolize all the attention with his drama. but i digress.

there’s another time that suki and ty lee come to the south pole to have a slumber party with katara (this is after katara has slightly relaxed her opinion of ty lee) while sokka mai and toph are off having fun elsewhere (and no suki isn’t bitter that toph didn’t invite her, after all they’ve been through together, no why would you even say that) and they play truth or dare, and suki (thinking she’s being generous) dares katara to kiss ty lee, and katara looks so repulsed by the prospect of kissing the most beautiful girl suki has ever seen, like she was asked to lick a wet slug, that suki just cracks up. anyway i think katara would host a lot of slumber parties, and this is simply one of many. but those are all the examples i could think of off the top of my head.

I was going to draw the crown too but decided I don't hate myself that much(maybe some other day), and gave him a golden laurel crown, bcs I'm obsessed with that as a motif, and also its very remincient of the boy king statue that started this whole thing!

There's some symbolism of this, both intentionally but also just historically. I love that the orb represents that the monarch is holding the world in their hand, basically every old monarchy has one of those, and I think it's very cool for symbolism. But also bcs of that, I was forced to basically draw catholic fanart so, you win some you lose some. The star halo above him head is both to reference those religious statues with star crowns(I saw them a lot in Europe and they imprinted onto my brain), as well as: his four championships of course!
