Folks: you CANNOT censor trigger tags. When you block a tag, it doesn't block other "spellings" of it. Writing it as "r@pe" or "r4p3" means that someone who has "tw rape" as a blocked tag will still see that post because you didn't wanna say the word rape. You are hurting people. Do not censor words, because people do not have those filtered out.
And honestly if you can't even write the word rape to protect other people then you probably aren't old/mature enough to discuss the topic.

friendly reminder that u can reverse tumblr updates on mobile by downloading an old app apk
step 1: go to your app/play store, turn off tumblr auto-update
step 2: delete tumblr
step 3: google 'tumblr old versions' and find the either ios, android, or whatever other system you have
step 4: scroll back a couple versions and click install on one you want
step 4.5: you may need to give your browser permission to install apps
step 5: click on the download, bam now u have old tumblr
step 6 ig?: swipe down on the blue banner in app telling you to update

Elon Musk has made a LOT of stupid policy decisions over the past almost two months, but for the record here’s the one that officially made me decide to call it quits. I have 25k followers on Twitter, but it is about to be a completely non-viable platform. The way the man has run this amazing platform into the ground in such a short period of time is absolutely mind boggling. Anyway, you might be seeing more of me here on Tumblr. :)

I think I realized the thing that makes me ok with the reddit migration as compared to the twitter migration.
Twitter and Reddit (the sites) are so fucking hostile towards trans women. Elon is now actively paying his cronies to post transmisoginy and Reddit was basically known as 4chan lite. Like I remember when r/anime had an entire meltdown because they mods banned the word tr*p.
But the thing is. The people who are responsible for making reddits reputation known as 4chan lite aren't the ones coming here. They're migrating to Twitter, or 4chan, or wherever their bigoted views can be coddled and platform. They're aren't going to be caught dead becoming what they would call a "tumblrina".
We knew the twitter migrators were assholes because we already knew them. They were the ones cycling endless discourse before they migrated to Twitter over the porn ban and brought all of their toxic shit with them. The ones vocal about the twitter to Tumblr migration were ex-tumblr to Twitter migrators going "hey we made a mistake. This place sux. Take us back please 🥺"
But with reddit we are getting the influx of the people who actually made reddit palatable. I'm personally excited for the new wave of reddit tgirls joining. The community that I've been told by Transandrophobia theorists dominated reddit and was apparently larger than the tumblr trans girl community. Legit before this whole thing happened I've seen them saying we(trans women) should move to reddit if we want to have a voice and a sense of community instead of asking Tumblr TME's told tone it down on the trans misogyny.
So yeah I welcome the new reddit wave and hope it makes Tumblr less of a TME dominated space

Just a heads up for the redditors using this website for the first time- There are Community Labels for marking content as explicit that you can use for posts or memes that are nsfw. This is just to hide posts from minors and those who are uncomfortable with certain subject matter!
I've been getting recommended a lot of nsfw posts from the people who have migrated from r/196 only because I interacted with maybe like two reddit people who posted sfw memes, and so far nothing has been tagged properly. So if you want to avoid accidentally jumpscaring other people with your horny on main posts right after they've been reading about cryptids or lawncare, please use community labels!
you can also use tags to reach other people in certain communities, and block tags for things that make you uncomfortable in your account settings, so definitely tag things correctly! (the tags on this post are pictured below as an example)
It's just a good practice and part of tumblr etiquette at this point so your posts are only seen by people who want to see them and don't upset anyone!
(this also goes for people who migrated from twitter, but I haven't seen as much of this from them)

For unverified accounts, that’s 600 per day
If you’re a new account, that’s
300 per day
Elon did it again, and this time I unironically think this kills it.
You also can’t see ANYTHING without logging in, which killed the website for me personally

A beginner’s guide to tumblr etiquette
— How the algorithm works —
Ok so maybe that’s a misnomer. Tumblr doesn’t actually have an algorithm, and so the way all things circulate is reblogs. If you see a post that you like give it a reblog so that more people will see it.
This doesn’t mean liking the post is useless! If you like the post the op gets a notification that somebody liked their post and that would understandably make them happy. Give the post a like! It’s like giving the op a pat and going ‘Nice post!’
If you see somebody post a poem or a fanfiction or a sketch or a drawing and you think it’s nice like and reblog it! Artists struggle to circulate on here and it’s SO helpful to creators of all types!
Don’t try and get famous, you won’t. If you’re not already a content creator on another site you won’t get far with trying for fame. If you post something it will either blow up or not, it’s up to the people.
Brands don’t make it far here and neither do celebrities so the odds are we’ll push them out if they get here.

Maybe you don’t like something somebody posted, maybe it’s problematic, whatever the case you don’t interact. Don’t reblog it with your opinion or even comment on the post. Block the person that posted it and move on. If they said something truly problematic (Something illegal or against the guidelines) then report them and block them.
So now let’s say you have a pet peeve about a fandom and you want to post about it. In this case let’s use a ship you hate as an example. Don’t use the main tags of the ship use a discorse tag. (they exist you just need to look a bit more.) If you don’t use a discourse tag then expect to be blocked.

You reblog a post with a funny comment and somebody adds to that. You lead into a back and forth of commenting and laughing, you fallow them back, they fallow you back. This is a mutual!
When you fallow somebody and they fallow you back their your mutual. Mutuals tend to exchange dms and reblog each other’s posts. Their a generally nice thing to have and it’s like having friends that actually texts you back- *begins crying*
— What else you can do with tags —
When you reblog something and you want to comment but don’t care if more people see the what you said then put it in the tags. When somebody reblogs the post your tags will not appear under their post.
If you see somebody posted tags you like you can screenshot the tags and reblog the post with the tags you screenshoted. This is called peer review.

If you repost art credit the artist but generally don’t repost art. Reblog don’t repost. If I add a funny caption though… NO! Credit the artist even if it’s a meme!

If you for whatever reason need to use a trigger warning for a post don’t censor yourself when you tag it.
When you need to use a trigger warning you should tag it with the triggering topic without censoring. Example:
Correct: #tw Suicide
Incorrect: #tw $u!¢!d3
If when you tag a trigger warning censoring the tag will prevent the people who need the trigger warning from being protected.
If you’re posting something with flashing lights don’t tag it as “#Photosensitive, #Photosensitivity, #Epilepsy” these are where photosensitive people talk about their experiences. Tag it as “#tw flashing lights” or “#flashing lights”

Don’t worry about seeming cringe when you post! Tumblr is the reason cringe culture is dead, post about your empty or hated fandom! Do whatever you want! These are free lands!
