I'm fascinated by the Twitter crash today (which is happening as I write this at 4:30 PM CST on Wednesday, February 8) not because it happened - this was inevitable - but how SPECIFIC it is.
TweetDeck is just dead. If I'm logged in I get my feed but literally nothing else.
Retweets and DMs are dead. They flat out do not function at all.
In fact, DM archives are completely gone.
The ONLY THING that still functions on the site is the ability to send scheduled tweets.
I can't send a tweet, but if I schedule a tweet to post at least 1 full minute after I type it, THEN it goes through.
That is a very specific way to break which indicates a very specific issue and, if Elon Musk hadn't fired everyone, someone might be able to point out what that specific problem is and how to fix it.
EDIT: It appears as of 5:30 PM that the cause of the problem was Twitter turned on their paywall for the API not realizing that it would affect their own software. At least that's what's been repeated the most from different sources since there's no official announcement (and likely won't be one that anyone will believe).
