Pshh, hey. If you are in a budget or if you have to hide your practice, I have some witchy tips for you.

• You don’t need to have an altar. But if you want to, creating an altar on a wooden box is great; you can collect stuff to put in there and you can hide it under your bed.

• You don’t need crystals. Common rocks can be energised to act with a certain intention and they work just as well. You can also associate the place you got the stone/rock from with an intention, such as: a rock from a river or sea can be used for cleansing, purifying, taking energies away from you. A stone found at the property of a hospital can be used for health spells. These are vague examples, so I might make a list later on of all kinds of things you can do with mineral founding.

• Energised water is a great offering to most entities. Water holds memory and it’s easy to energise it with a certain intention if you concentrate.

• You don’t actually need candles. For many deities, an object that remembers you of them works as a taglock, an identification of the deity you’re worshipping. Besides, many spells do not need candles to work, such as: ritual baths, petitions, etc.

Have fun, and remember that your practice isn’t meant to look the same as other practitioners’. We are supposed to do things our own way, as long as it doesn’t harm anyone or anything.

Hi there! I was wondering if you know and could share any simple spells for making someone call/message us back? Thank you!

Dress a small candle with some form of drawing oil and/or powder and light it, raising your power and aligning the forces you work with in ways pertinent to your craft.

When ready, take up a Bay Leaf and write upon one face of it the full name of your target, as well as the phone number (or social media handle) they use to communicate with you. Say thrice, "I call on you, [Name]!" Flip over the leaf, and on the other side of it, proceed to write your own full name and phone number (or social media handle) that they use to contact you. Say thrice, "I cover you, [Name]!"

Take up a second Bay Leaf and repeat this process exactly. Once this is done, spread a bit of molasses and ground calamus root on the sides of each leaf that bear your target's name. Press and stick these leaves together, sandwhiching the molasses and calamus between them, with your information facing out from either side. When these are satisfying stuck together, use the flame of the dressed candle to ignite and burn the Bay Laurel, Molasses, and Calamus (ideally within a flame-safe vessel.) As it burns, give a thirteenth and final call of, "Ashes to Ashes; Dust to Dust; and [Name] to me—and [Name] to me!"

Give a call of conclusion, disperse the powers gathered, and collect the burnt remnants of the leaves. Allow the candle to burn down and take the Ashes from the spell outside to be scattered on the wind—that it might help to carry your desire to the target of your spell.

Setting up your altar is a personal manifestation of your soul and your personality in the way you practice your Magick. Each witch may have a unique set up that reflects who they are, what type of witchcraft they practice, and what is sentimental to them. As such, every altar may look a little different. There is no specific “correct way” to set up your altar. The right way to set up your altar is what feels right for you. Nevertheless, if you’re setting up your first altar and don’t know where to begin, here are a couple tips on how you can set yours up:

Where to set up your altar:

You can set up your altar anywhere! You can set it up in your home, in your garden, in your workspace (although the best place to set it up would be a more private space) but essentially an altar can exist anywhere you make the room for one. Typically the best place for an altar would be a bedroom, since its a space that most people are connected to spiritually and feel most at rest. My altar is set up in a corner of my walk in closet. It’s on the smaller side but its big enough for me to practice my craft. For those that need a much smaller space, you could set your altar up on a dresser, a nightstand, or even your windowsill. You could even get a portable altar that can be taken down and put up easily, which is good for those that live in smaller housing and those that like to travel.

Which direction should your altar face:

Again, this one is more of a personal decision. In Wiccan history, traditionally the altar is said to be facing North. However, you can face your altar in whatever direction feels right. Perhaps there is a beautiful view facing East that helps you meditate, or perhaps the area you want to set up your altar in only faces South. That is completely OK. As for me, I have my altar facing North-East, based on my preference on the elements I feel most connected to. I have two modes, I’m either completely grounded or completely in the clouds, so the elements I feel most connected to are earth and air; which is how I chose to position my altar. If you want to position your altar for the elements you feel most connected to, you would choose between North (earth), South (fire), East (air), and West (water). However you choose to position your altar should feel right to you.

What to put on your altar:

Your altar can consist of a few traditional things and personal things. You can have plants, crystals, candles, incense, and other traditional tools. You can also have personal items such as photographs, magazine clippings of something you want to manifest in your life, a homemade wreath or jewelry, or anything that feels personal to you such as a seashell or stone you picked yourself on your last hike or adventure. There’s a few things I personally believe every altar should have for spiritual protection purposes (this is my opinion only, not mandatory in any way) and those are:

an altar cloth

a candle

protective crystals (such as black tourmaline, smoky quartz, or amethyst)

incense or white sage

a fireproof bowl or cauldron

Additional things you may want to consider for your altar:

a wand (either premade or handmade) or athame

herbs or crystals for spells

a pendulum board or ouija board (if you wish to commune with spirits)

a chalice

something representing each of the elements

a compass

charms or small statues of things that you connect spiritually with

hand-picked items such as seashells, acorns, pine cones, leaves, feathers, or stones

Important things to remember about your altar:

I know I sound like a broken record saying this, but again, your altar should be personal. A reflection of YOU. If your altar feels right, then it’s right. If it feels like its missing something, add more to it. If it feels too cluttered or like too much, take stuff off. Your altar can change with you! You can switch things out as you feel your energy shift. Something that is very important to remember about your altar, is that it is a sacred place. Cleanse your altar if things start to not feel right after changing things up. Remember that things you find other places, may have picked up energy from that place/people, so be sure to cleanse any items you are bringing into your sacred space.

the act of daily practice if often very misunderstood. a daily practice does not mean to do spells and rituals every single day in order to be a witch. it is not necessary for a daily practice to be huge or something specifically special.

you may even find yourself so distant from your craft that you put it on pause for weeks, yeah even months. does this make you any less of a witch? does this make you any less powerful? no, absolutely not!

we are human beings. it is absolutely normal to put certain things last, especially when there are more important things for you at the time. perhaps you can't practice witchcraft while studying for exams or during stressful and difficult times. or you just can't bring yourself to practice it for no specific reason at all.

just know that this is so damn normal. you should never feel bad about yourself for pausing your craft. there might be a reason for that you don't yet understand! so don't push yourself too hard.

a way to keep the magic in your life, even after pausing your craft for a while, is by incorporating daily practices into your everyday-routine, even when you're still practicing actively at the moment.

now what does daily practice mean?

daily practices are the things you do on a daily basis, regularly. we'll soon get to how some of these practices can look like.

it can help you to stay in touch with your craft, with your power, you spirit guides, deities, etc. even on days you're not drawn to do actual magical rituals—which is NORMAL and absolutely OKAY.

a few examples of daily practices:

1. stirring intentions in your drinks and foods

2. wearing crystals

3. enchant your jewelry and wear it

4. dress according to today's planet ruler

5. put spell oils on your body or clothes

6. use glamour magic (this can be as simple as drawing sigils or runes on your face with your moisturizer or makeup)

7. light an ancestor, deity or spirit guide candle (if you have one)

8. divination

When doing a circle and calling corners, a little information on the element that goes with the direction.

Working the Grimorium Verum (P1)

A few weeks ago I decided that I was going to start working the Grimorium Verum. I read and reread and rereread the Grimoire and as much supplemental material as I could get my hands on (I'm referring to all of JsK's pdf books by Hadean Press and that one conjure codex entry by Al Cumins).

Goal/Intent

With that said my primary goal right now is to work towards creating a clay skull, created to the specs Jsk outlined in his notes on the Grimoire in his edition of the book. It is essentially reworking the invisibility spell of the second part into a spell that binds a spirit to the skull. Rather, in his words, "I strongly recommend making a crossroads the place of interment in a reconstruction of this rite using seven coins. The intention of this adaptation would be to make a magical head as a central feature of work with these spirits, a natural extension of the underlying symbolism," (The True Grimoire 160). The only change I am doing to what JsK states is that I am adding grave dirt to the clay for the skull.

The Work I've done thus far

Wednesday, 8/16/23, I began working to get the consecrating the materials necessary for the work. I started the second hour of Mercury at my local graveyard in my town. I asked the spirits of the graveyard to lead me to the grave most suited for my work. I was expecting to be led to a town founder or someone who died violently, rather they sent me to the grave of an old lady who died a hundred years ago on my birthday. This was not intentional on my end. I saw the grave from behind and I felt as though I was being pushed towards it and that it was the right choice for the work. I took the dirt left a coin and promised to pray for her for the next three nights.

I then got home as fast as possible so I could have the second half to craft and consecrate the Asperger and Aspergillus. For the Asperger, I used a black ceramic bowl that I painted the appropriate god names on. For the aspergillus, I took the three herbs, rosemary, (pepper)mint, and oregano (technically you are supposed to use Majoram, but I could not find any in my area and I plan to get the proper plant in the future, but for now both are closely related and I don't think it will do much harm to my work). I consecrated them according to the method in the Third part of the grimoire. Reciting the 7 penitential psalms took long than I thought it would.

Thursday, 8/17/23, in the second hour of Jupiter I engraved a spoon and a knife with Heramael's name and seal. The intention is based out of Goetic Pharamakos, by Jsk where they are used to collect plants in nature for me to work with, such as the branches for the wands. In the 1 night hour of Jupiter I consecrated the two items, however, I slightly adapted the consecration from Jsk's book on Eleogap so that it was to be a general consecration instead of an asperger and aspergillus consecration. The difference between it and the Grimoire's consecration is that it is Thelemic and instead of the psalms it uses chapters 3 and 5 from Liber LXV, which I thought would mean it would be shorter, well it was in the sense that for all things that after you waft the tools of the censer, you are supposed to recite the 7 psalms and psalm 71 and 116, so 21 psalms in total. Personally, I think there is a point where the more you recite over a ritual object the less of an effect it has on it. I could be wrong. Anyhow, below are pictures of the spoon and knife before I consecrated them.

Property Locator Spell for House-Hunting

This spell is a small part of “A Witch’s Guide to Moving & House-Hunting”, a zine I’m currently putting together! You can view the full draft and research notes of this zine over on my Patreon now!

What You’ll Need:

a map of the general area you wish to move

a pendulum (you can also use a necklace with a charm/pendant or crystal)

rosemary oil (optional but helpful)

candlelight

Directions:

Gather your supplies and cleanse your map, pendulum, and the area where you’ll be casting the spell. Prep how you normally would for spell work (meditation, journaling, etc). Light your candles and relax your ind!

Dab a bit of the rosemary oil on your pendulum (optional) and ask the pendulum to reveal the best location for your new home

Spread out the map on a table/flat surface, and hold the pendulum over the middle of the map, allowing it to hang loose over it

Close your eyes envision the pendulum locating an area that you would prefer - good schools, large neighborhood, close to a park, etc - imagine anything that would be desirable to you. You may also choose to chant or say something in your head along the lines of “Pendulum pendulum, work your magic for me. Open my eyes to my dream home, for health, hearth and prosperity.”

Open your eyes and hold your hand very still. Your pendulum should begin to swing, twirl or pull in a certain direction. Slowly move your hand in the direction the pendulum is pulling.

Ask the pendulum to stop over the requested location.

Mark the area, thank the pendulum and map, and end the spell.

Recently I've seen post go around again on social media saying that you can substitute any herb in a spell for rosemary and rose for any flower

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE

And as someone who has a craft focused on herbalism it's fucking infuriating to be spreading misinformation like that so wildly. While there are so many ways you can you both of those, you cannot use them for everything

What's worse is that if you say something that contradicts what they say, a swarm of people who are fans of the poster will come for you as if you are the bad guy. This is information often spread through social media on accounts with big followings that reach people who don't know any better.

So instead of herb of the week, I will be putting together a list of herbs, flowers and substitutes you can use if you don't have them. I will be doing my best to find as many as I can but it won't be everything

Defense Magick: The Power of Reversing Oil to Protect and Cleanse

The History Not much history on the use of sand in magic from what I can find that is a reliable source, but I was able to find some bits about its use.

Sand has been used in connections to rituals for the dead and in burial practices in many different cultures to a varying degree. In some sand was used for burying the deceased such as very early Ancient Egypt for its mummification properties before better mummification methods were invented and utilized. Placing sand into graves or coffins of the deceased somethings as a means to connect them to their homelands if that person was traveling into foreign lands or countries. Some stories speak about mixing the ashes of the dead with sand to be kept in the home. Other stories tell of people mixes ashes from fires or the hearth with sand and casting it out into the sea for lost sailors who could not be brought home.

Sand was also used historical in some types of spell jars and vessels. In some places sand was put into jars and bottles and given to sailors to keep them connected to home even when sailing. Others said carrying sand could protect one from being lost at sea or from disaster, likely where the history of sand being used for protection properties came from. It has also been used in witch’s bottles and for burying spells for varying purposes. Some cultures would bury offerings to deities into the sand of beaches or deserts.

Modern Use Sand is still a common ingredient for many sea witches and worshipers of ocean related deities to utilize in their craft and in their altars. Deities commonly related to sand are Poseidon, Aphrodite, Psamathe, Thalassa, Aegir, Neptune and Veles. Sand is also often used in altars to represent either earth or water when representing the cardinal directions or the 4 elements. Some will use sand to represent both in cases of smaller altars.

Modernly, sand is often used in spell jars and bottles when used in spellwork or as a vessel to charge, cleanse and bury objects or tools such as crystals, poppets, amulets and trinkets. Sea witches or witches with accesses to large amount of sand will often use it for grounding and circle casting. Some will use it for runes and sigils as well.

Storing Sand For those wishing to store and use collected sand ensure that there is nothing undesirable in it - garbage, sharp bits of glass, decomposing fish or animals, insects etc. Shift it thoroughly to ensure anything that could be potentially dangerous is removed and if needed properly disposed of. Once the sand has been shifted ensure it is dry before you seal it into anything.

Wet sand can house bacteria and mold - which can also smell quite foul when the container is opened again. You can use the sun to dry it or indoor heaters at a safe distance. Spread it out thin and flat to help ensure it is thoroughly dried if it is damp or wet.

Once dried the best way to store sand is inside of glass or ceramic vessels. Jars and bottles are the most ideal. Ensure that they are sealed tightly to ensure no spillage or condensation can get inside.

The curse on my neighbor and the spell to keep my colleague away from my outings seem to have worked well. I feel more and more confident.

Paradigm changes regarding my personal Faery are also taking place, with a certain “demonolatry/theistic Satanism/Strigoi” tone, & always Luciferian with Hellenistic polytheism and cult of Antinous.

There is order to put back into my life!
