Ranking TMNT iterations based on how likely they would survive in deep space without a space ship

03 Turtles, the spacesuits(two I think?) they’ve used have had no time limit

12 Turtles, their space suits had a time limit of some kind in pretty sure

Rise turtles, purely bc of cartoon comedy even thought they’ve had no space stuff

87 Turtles, I feel like they would have suspense or the writers would forget about space being space which would move them up

Bay Turtles. why? action movie logic

07 turtles, I feel like the writers would forget about space being space but not as much as 87 writers but still enough for it to be this high

TMNT v Batman turtles, I feel like the writers wouldn’t be afraid of death due the many bring back to life stuff there exists in the DC universe

Live action 90s movie’s turtles, my mind remembers them being very I-need-stuff-to-live-y in the sense of how they act and move and look like

Next mutation turtles, the earlier entry but more. Venus might survive due to an ex machina

The IDW turtles I cannot judge due to the fact that I do not remember anything except random panels from them visiting their dead mom and the Ghostbusters

MM would be up near the top but not past the top 2, just don’t know where

Giving a "best at" to TMNT 2012 bc. I'm bored.

Reminder, that's how I see it.

Physical Strength:

Shredder.

Before his mutation he took on Splinter AND LEATHERHEAD by himself.

Causally kicking Leatherhead away.

After his mutation tho....he took on the entire Mighty Mutanimals by himself.

Tho, relays more on strength than combat in the end.

Combat Skills:

Splinter or Leo.

Combat is hard to decide but I would choose either Splinter or Leo.

Splinter knows like...every single weapon and way more tactics than Shredder.

Leo by end of the show also has seen being extremely good within combats, defending Shredder

Teamwork :

Mighty Mutanimals.

Power:

Kavaxas

He's a Demon Dragon.

I don't need to say more.

Yes, Wyrm too but his power actually is usable against him as seen by Casey.

With Kavaxas...not so much.

Speed:

Alopex.

Just..Alopex.

Stamina:

Yes.

No fr. I can't decide.

The Turtles run for 2+ hours straight.

Alopex runs in high speed for a good distance.

Renet runs 300 meter upstairs + climbs 100 meter minus the way to even get there.

Casey is a Hockey Player and needs a good stamina.

Tiger Claw casually fights through all dimensions..and still fights the same day he returns.

So I just let this one open.

Intelligent:

The Fugitoid

He casually created a weapon that causes a Black Hole.

Is this explanation enough?

Teamwork :

Mighty Mutanimals.

They've been seeing fighting & planning closer/better together than the Turtles, having fewer arguments about the plan and solo member don't go randomly on suicide missions (cough Leo & Raph).

Weapon:

Renet

The Scepter is no doubt the strongest weapon.

Controlling the entirety of reality, changing history like you want, manipulate quaton and more...with.

I wanted also include the Triceratons...but Renet could just make a time-loop or travel back or make a time stop.

Bonus: Some most off

Deaths: Splinter, he "died" three times.

Trauma: All of the four brothers, especially Raph where just saw all of his fathers death.

Natural Talents: Mikey..this is actually canon lol.

Burning Kitchens: Leo...sorry this needed to be.

Exploding themself: Donnie...how is he not dead?

Electro-shocks: Donnie..again, how is he not dead?

After seeing the TMNT: Mutant Mayhem movie where would u place the MM characters? I know u were wondering if Rise Leo could go from 3rd to 4th, with MM Leo 4th (I think) to 3rd in ur rankings. Once u actually see the movie proper.

(Honestly, me myself have Tmnt 2012, IDW, Rise, and 2003 are probably in my top 4. Though I don’t know which order, except Tmnt 2012 is probably #1. And MM Leo, from what I have seen of him could be up there w/ them too. I’m thinking about it).

So I’m curious about ur new rankings now that u saw the movie.

(I have kinda mixed feelings, on MM Leo maybe taking Rise Leo’s 3rd spot for u. Because on 1 hand, I love Rise Leo a lot, and think he is a very complex boy.

(On the other hand, I also love MM Leo from what I have seen of him, and I’m happy to see how much love MM Leo has been getting by people. So mixed feelings, lol. I’m still curious on ur rankings though. And this is is ur own opinions too. This is just me rambling, ahaha.)

If your talking about where I'd place the boys when it comes to my top favorite versions of each of the turtles well it's somewhat tough ngl.

With Leo, he is still in a tie with Rise Leo to be either my 3rd or 4th favorite. I love the silly guy a lot and he is such a cutie patotie. I'm still mixed on how I should rank him. Although he is in my top 5 favorite Leo's. For anyone curious my top 5 are 2012, 2003, Rise, MM and 2007.

Raph, I don't know man, tough one. I suppose 6 or 5?? IDW might come back to being one of my favorite Raph's again because ngl looking back I feel like I bashed him too much even though I haven't red the IDW comics. I have finally started to thanks to a moot of mine who sent me a link to where I can read all of the IDW issues. So maybe IDW Raph will come back into the game. Who knows. Also for anyone curious about my top 5 Raph's, it's 2007, 2003, 2012, Rise and like mentioned either MM or IDW (Considering bayverse and 90s up for the challenge...)

Mikey, easily 4th in my opinion. I love him so much and I've seen people suspect he might end up having some major story when the show comes out and if something might happen or he goes thru an arc of sorts. I really hope that happens! So right now, Last Ronin, IDW, 2003, MM and I guess 2012 or TMNT vs Batman maybe.

Donnie at last, I think he is fit to be 3rd. I don't know, I love how he is just a nerdy nerd. I think the reason why is because he has so many funny moments and I love his personality. I do hope we see him be more of a tech guy as well. For now, 2003, bayverse, MM, IDW most likely and I suppose MAYBE 2007 or 2012 or probably Batman vs TMNT. I'm trying here okay.

This might change, especially since there will apparently be a two season cartoon coming next year. So let's see how my boys do!

Also I'll probably make new rankings for the turtles. I've got some catching up to do on more TMNT's and also some episodes to rewatch and or finish-

But again, I don’t think April should be shipped with any of the Turtles and I don’t see this ship lasting in the long term…

She is Raph’s only human "love interest" and it doesn’t feel right to me.

Out of all the Turtles, Raph being with a human feels weird, the other Turtles I’m fine with being with humans. Raph has always been known to date non human characters so this ship doesn’t look/sit right to me, and doesn’t feel like a relationship that would go anywhere.

Alopex (IDW)

I just don’t like it

I guess it’s because I was introduced to Alopex in the 2012 series where in that she’s a 30 year old woman and Raph is a teenager, so this relationship feels weird to me.

Kinda toxic at times tbh but still cute when they need to be (which is rare)

She’s 17 and Raph is 20… But that was apparently “retconned” so Idk what to think

Could’ve worked with a cute “friends to lovers” story but the writers ruined it.

Kinda cute in season 1, got worse after that. Season 5 was them at their best but that’s only because it wasn’t shoved down our throats by that point.

The love triangle brought out the worst in them (and Casey).

I like them better as best friends.

Hottake: Donnie was more of the problem than April.

Like I said in Leo’s ranking, April should NOT be a love interest for any of the Turtles.

I am procrastinating on my uni assignments so here’s the 2012!TMNT main cast ranked on who would be homophobic/transphobic

1 being the most and 6 being the least

this is my opinion and my interpretation. i will fight people for one of these rankings if they disagree with me

6 - April

You cannot convince me she isn’t a 2012 Tumblr girl like… look at her. She spent most of her teenage years debating with homophobes on the internet. She would 100% watch supernatural and 100% ship Castiel.

"Would she fetishise mlm relationships?" NO. She would also watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer and ship Fuffy. She reads yaoi AND yuri in her spare time.

If she swoons over a mutant and an alien getting together, she will 100% do the same for a gay couple.

Probably taught the others not to be homophobic (mostly the top 3).

If you believe she hates the LGBT+ community, I am sorry but you are objectively wrong I will be hunting you for sport right now. I am outside your house with the episode "Karai's Vendetta" playing loudly on my laptop.

5 - Donnie

“Erm actually, homosexual behaviour has been heavily documented in animals such as penguins, bats and hyenas. It’s very much natural.“

While I cannot imagine him ever being homophobic, I can imagine him being transphobic when he was younger.

BUT I only think that because the primary school biology textbook was his bible when he was five.

As soon as he had access to a more “advanced” biology book, he learnt his mistakes.

Had a deep understanding of gender before his brother understood the differences between them as a result of this.

4 - Mikey

Thinks LGBT+ people are awesome, however his only exposure to gay people is rupaul drag race so his views on them are stereotypical.

He would probably be taken aback if you introduced him to a gay man who isn’t flamboyant, but he would adjust after a bit.

He would definitely say “You don’t look gay” though.

Aside from April, he would be the most angry when hearing homophobic/transphobic comments.

3 - Leo

The middle point between homophobic and not homophobic for the group (even though she's seconds lmao, the group is just not really homophobic).

I headcanon her as a trans lesbian so any homophobic/transphobic thoughts she would have are a mixture of her sheltered life and internalised issues.

Nothing extreme though, but her mind would get hung up on two girls holding hands on the street for multiple days.

She would also go through the 5 stages of grief for every unprompted homophobic thought she gets.

Everyone helps her overcome this, especially after she discovers herself and comes out.

2 - Raph

I am sorry, but he would probably use homophobic language before meeting April.

However, that’s due to him not understanding what he was saying. He probably thought gay was a synonym for stupid.

Once he understands who LGBT+ people are and what they face (AKA being scolded by April), he would probably feel really bad about it.

He wouldn’t really apologise for it verbally, but he would 100% kill a homophobe after that so everyone understands he’s changed.

Mikey would then make fun of him for being homophobic which would get him really mad. It's revenge for Raph calling him gay to insult him and brushing his genuine anger off.

1 - Casey

I am not sorry, this dude was definitely homophobic before meeting the Turtles + April. Like, actually homophobic.

His dad is homophobic so it comes from that.

He called Donnie the f-slur behind his back to the rest of the group. To put it lightly, they were not impressed.

The first moment where he questions his behaviour is when April rips him to shreds over it, but it’s not until Raph pulls him aside to express disappointment that he realises how bad his behaviour is.

Probably goes MIA for a couple of days undergoing serious reflection on his life and beliefs. He then comes back to apologise for his behaviour.

He takes some time to truly overcome his bigotry, but he gets there eventually. Like Raph, he'll kill a homophobe after the ordeal.

The thing about TMNT 2012 is that while I like Rise more on an as-is basis, '12 gives me more creative inspiration.

Part of that is the "they dropped all these interesting, weird character beats then refused to do anything more than surface-level writing with them, if that", which makes me want to pull them apart and put them back together and write out what I was wanting from the character writing the whole time. That instinct to say "okay but what if they did this. focused on this. developed this. did this better." Which... is a thing I might eventually write out. It does exist rent free in my head, like... minimum 20% of the time lately. ((a problem when I need that space to finish my kh fic I've only got 5 chapters left to draft I'm so close))

But also it's like. I tell my self stories with a little enemy-to-ally OC guy in my head while driving or trying to sleep (as one does) and the next thing I know I'm thinking about like. The internal operations of the Foot clan. Shredder's branch in Japan vs Bradford's US branch. Like I think Shredder's was referred to as a crime family at some point, but was Bradford's? He wasn't just recruiting soldiers then making train and stay in waiting, was he?

And like, I assume he was recruiting through his martial arts classes, and I got the feeling his dojos were like a chain thing? Were they all across the country? What happened if he recruited from somewhere in California? Did he make them move to New York? Did he have, like... HR people to help him get situated?

What about Xever and Bradford's rivalry that supposedly pre-dates the show. Was Bradford just recruitment while Xever was doing jobs? Was Bradford also doing, like... missions or jobs? Were they usually tapped for different types of jobs? Were they, like, trying to improve their reputation and putting in bids so Shredder would send them more jobs over the other guy?

Bradford also had a TV show. So he had, like... businesses? With departments, maybe? Were those kept separate, or were they part of the whole crime family.... thing. Were anyone used for money laundering? Did the people working for them know what Bradford was up to? Were they staffed with Foot clan recruits? Who was in charge of Finances?

And like if they were doing actual crime things... what were they? Do I need to look up how crime families work to see how all they earn money? Was it really mundane or were they doing more complicated ninja stuff? ((I bet you could do crazy insider training if you could break into any company in the world. Also if you could sabotage companies to control the market. I don't know, the most I know about crime is what you see in Leverage.))

Also, like... equipment. The uniforms, and the weapons, and the gear, for all those recruits, that's gotta come from somewhere. How is that.. handled? Do they have free rein? Get a certain amount per year but have to pay if they lose it? Always have to buy it themselves? Where does it come from? Do they own the manufacturers through, like, shell companies? Do they have an R&D department that doesn't do combat? Information and logistics?

And suddenly I'm so many layers deep in it and I turn around and I don't just have one guy living in my head, I've got like - 6 at minimum.

#it's not that I don't have any creative ideas for Rise #I have some I'll probably do at some point #but inner/lower footclan politics give you a lot of space for Types Of Guy #head of financials who is just So Tired of dealing with all this #rank-climber who was bad at combat but excelled at stealth grifting her way into getting her own department #someone who started out with xever's people but was recruited by Bradford's people and now there's bad blood #who's Super In To the ninja aesthetic and drank the koolaide?#who just joined for the power trip?#who joined from poor decision making and is just trying to survive?#I want different departments and pseudo-office politics and possibly internal back-stabbing #you know?#tmnt #tmnt 2012 #yza talks about a thing

Happy 5th Anniversary Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! I'll always appreciate you for being the thing that brought my love for TMNT back and got me all obsessed over it again. Plus it helped me a lot since I got back to TMNT in 2022.

While it is most likely you will probably not return, I will still hold you close to my heart and love you with every inch of my body. Even if it's cancelled or nah I don't care. I love you a lot.

Thank you and shout out to the creators for bringing such an amazing series. It's sad to know that it lasted really short but hey. Whether it will come back or won't, we can still love it all we want.

what are your fave versions of raph and donnie and why? since they're your favourites and all (you can pick more than one for each!)

Funny you should ask that since I actually talked with some friends about ranking our fave turtles by iteration. Here's what I wrote for both Raph and Donnie. Keep in mind that this is a tentative ranking since I haven't seen/read all TMNT versions. Also my favorites are subject to change since it tends to shift towards what my mind is on, and also I'm bad at picking favorites haha!

Donnie

Rise Donnie

1987 Donnie

2012 & 2003 Donnie (different vibes, very different reasons for liking them, but I do like them rather equally)

90s Donnie

Batman vs TMNT Donnie

2007 Donnie (you had like, two lines)

Rise Donnie definitely wins out here for me. I enjoy the more manic, mad scientist vibes, and I find his superiority-inferiority complex compelling. I think he has one of the most complete arcs of any Donnie in the franchise. I love his overall character design, too. Donatello from the 87 version is very fun though, and I think he's possibly the most morally ambiguous of the bunch. I feel like he would kill a man. Maybe I just like the darker Donnies [shrug]. Looking at this list again, I miiiiight put 2012 Donnie just slightly above 2003, probably just due to character design and I enjoy Rob Paulsen's performance of him (tho no shade at all to Sam Riegel).

Raph

Batman vs TMNT Raph

2003 Raph

Rise Raph is again on top, but also alongside the Raphael from the 90s films. Both of their stories and growth in their respective versions were emotionally moving for me and I have a lot of love for them both as a result. I love the twist on Raph's role in Rise, and I think the 1990s version is a near perfect summation of his character and personality. 2012 Raph was an easy second. He's a nice and rounded "jerk with a heart of gold" character. Sean Astin also knocks it out of the park with his voice acting!
