Ziggy/Dillon Venjix!Ziggy playlist!
And now we get into the various venjix!Ziggy AUs (alright, there's only two of them, but I've got playlists for both, so strap on in). First up is the first RPM fic I actually wrote, which ft. Ziggy getting captured late in the season and made into a Venjix attack bot ala Tenaya. Not only did it set up a lot of conventions for how my RPM stories would play out (like how Venjix memory wipes work and how dead Soulmates are handled), it also ft. trans!Ziggy, his twin sister Meredith (possibly my favorite OC in this series), and remarkably little focus on the romance in favor of exploring the implications of amnesia, mind control, and sibling love.

I'm deep in Mass Effect brainrot, so I'll pick songs for Lynn Shepard/Garrus Vakarian, though it's important to know that their relationship is influenced to some extent by Lynn's previous one with Ashley Williams.

In the first game, Lynn is Commander Shepard, striking out as the first human Spectre to stop a rogue agent who's bent on bringing ruin to the galaxy. But then she "dies," she loses who she was and the people who supported her, she works for with Cerberus, and tackling the latest threat could be a one-way trip. She's trapped and losing control. Her internal label shifts from "Shepard" to "Lynn" as she tries to reconstruct her identity amidst the pieces of her former self. And she (perhaps unfairly) clings to Garrus as an anchor from which to rebuild.

A big part of why Lynn's feelings grow from platonic to romantic is Garrus tirelessly supporting her. His patience as she reeled from the events of Overlord are just one example of him building her up when she needs it most. And this continues after they become a couple.

The events of ME2 break Lynn, repeatedly. Garrus doesn't fare much better. Their friendship and its connection to her previous life mean everything to her. But, oh so slowly, she realizes she wants it to be more than that. Thankfully, so does he.

It takes Lynn a long time to find the good in her lost relationship with Ash -- that she's a better person for having loved Ash, that what they had will always be a part of her. This acceptance and reconciliation is largely made possible by Lynn finding a second chance at love with Garrus.

The pronouns are off at times, but hearing this song from Ashley's perspective toward Lynn during Mass Effect 3 hurts. I occasionally regret inviting Ashley back onto the Normandy because it means she's in painfully close proximity to Lynn and Garrus when they're together.
