Tickletober Day 20 - Counting
Fandom: The Hobbit
Characters: Bilbo/Thorin (Kíli, the dwarves)
A/N: Thorin’s Company my beloved.
Words: 1 464
[Tickletober prompts]
Bilbo’s mother used to count when she was stressed. Anything she could find. Pebbles and trees and family members running in and out of the kitchen. Because of her coping mechanism Bilbo found himself counting, too, when overwhelmed. Going on a quest with the dwarves resulted in many moments of counting, although he wasn’t as subtle about it as maybe he thought.
“Why are you doing that?” Kíli asked, intrigued in that way younglings usually were; only for a moment, but finding it important enough to need to know right there right now.
“It calms me.”
“To count?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Well,” Bilbo said, throwing a rock - his sixth - into the river. “I suppose it makes me feel as if I’m more in control.”
“I see.” Kíli sat down beside him, body turned slightly sideways so that he could look at him. “Are you stressed, master burglar?”
Bilbo shrugged. “A little. I’m sure we all are. Everyone’s coping differently.” Which was the truth; Bilbo had already analyzed the way the dwarves, and Gandalf, responded to various situations. That afternoon found them all scattered, restless and on edge, with Kíli wanting to help and please, Fíli watching them all in silence, Dwalin refusing to speak to anyone, Balin patiently trying to soothe, and Thorin-
Well, Thorin was nowhere to be seen.
Perhaps that was adding to Bilbo’s stress.
“Uncle’s across the lake,” Kíli said, as if he could read his mind. “He’s watching us. He always likes to keep an eye on things from afar when he’s stressed. I suppose that’s his version of counting.”
“I see my coping mechanism is entirely useless compared to his,” Bilbo said with a laugh, trying to keep himself from turning his gaze to the shore, certain he wouldn’t catch sight of Thorin anyway.
“Well, you’re a hobbit,” Kíli said matter-of-factly. “It’s not in your nature to have the need to defend. That isn’t a bad thing,” he added. “It just means your kind has been lucky.”
Bilbo found him later, as darkness started falling and he felt too anxious not to look. He wasn’t far, just sitting by a shaded area close enough to hear most conversation. He’d most likely heard Bilbo talking with Kíli, had he been sitting there the entire time. Bilbo wasn’t sure why that made him nervous.
“Dinner’s almost ready,” he said, knowing Thorin had probably seen him struggle to pass the admittedly shallow river and therefore wouldn’t get a fright. “Better hurry before all the good bits are gone.”
Thorin let out a sound, something between an affirmation and a laugh. “We’ve got time. Sit with me.”
Bilbo did, perching up on the log next to him, the two of them silent as they watched the party across the water.
“Kíli’s sweet,” Bilbo said as they watched him try to help prepare dinner as best he could.
“Perhaps a little too sweet,” Thorin said, although there was something fond to his voice. “I don’t believe softness is the worst thing in this world, but I hate to see him get hurt.”
“It’s part of life, though, isn’t it? We get hurt and we get back up, and we find people willing to lend a hand in the process.”
Thorin looked at him. “Is that a hobbit saying?”
“No.”
“Then you are wise on your own.”
Bilbo felt himself flush, partly from embarrassment and partly from pleasure. “I don’t know about that.”
Thorin’s smile was small, but Bilbo caught every single inch of it.
“I overheard you talking to Kíli,” Thorin then said, turning away from him. “Forgive my intruding, but could you tell me more about your… coping mechanism?”
“Oh, well, it’s silly, really. Just something I picked up from my mother. The idea is to feel in control of your environment, and for her that was making sure she knew the exact number of things. It’s a bit useless in nature, since there’s an endless supply of rocks and trees and acorns, but- well, it’s a difficult habit to get rid of.”
“What do you tend to count?”
“Well, anything that seems important in the moment.”
Thorin had smiled at him three times and looked at him five times since he joined him, for example. Bilbo’s heart had skipped a beat six times. They’d accidentally touched once.
But who was counting.
“Count something for me,” Thorin would say later, and he’d say it many times after that, sometimes with Bilbo beside him, other times with Bilbo in his arms. “Count the stars.”
“That would take forever.”
“I can’t sleep.”
And Bilbo understood.
*
“Count your giggles.”
“That really doesn’t make sense- stop it!”
“It might make this go by quicker.”
“You’re doing it on purpose- Thorin!” Bilbo heard others laughing and found himself blushing even more than he already was. “Hurry up, please.”
“Stop squirming then.”
“You’re making it tickle on purpose.”
“I’m afraid your sensitivity has nothing to do with me.” He was enjoying it so obviously that Bilbo would roll his eyes had he not been busy.
It was silly. Bilbo wasn’t even hurt and the fall had looked worse than it was, and yet Thorin insisted on checking his ribs. Truly, how long was this even supposed to take?
“You’re dragging this out,” Bilbo accused. “You enjoy making me suffer.”
“A bit of tickling never hurt anybody.”
“Aha! So you admit you’re doing it on purpose?”
Thorin dropped his hands and Bilbo pulled his shirt down quickly. “You caught me. You giggling was simply too-”
“Intoxicating?” one of the dwarves suggested and Thorin laughed when Bilbo huffed.
“Well, you all suck and I will take the little bit of dignity I have left and go.”
“Oh, come on, Bilbo, don’t be like that,” Kíli said with a laugh. “Your sensitivity simply caught us off guard.”
Bilbo shook his head. “Goodbye.”
Thorin grabbed his arm. “I’ll join you.”
The dwarves laughed again when Bilbo didn’t protest and he found his face was on fire. He had a hard time getting used to this. The gentle teasing and utter support. Thorin grinned at his expression, although his cheeks had pinkened a bit, too.
“They’re all fond of you, you know,” Thorin said when they were alone. “That is more than I could ask for.”
“They’re all lucky I like them too,” he said, feeling himself softening. “I do admit I was a bit nervous telling them about us.”
“That’s understandable.” Thorin slipped his hand into his and gave it a squeeze. “But I knew you had nothing to be afraid of.”
“Well, I guess they did like me before you did,” Bilbo said with a grin.
Thorin gave a laugh. “My gravest mistake. Let’s sit. I’m not feeling too well.”
“Oh?”
“I feel stressed.” He turned toward him. “I think I need to count your ticklish spots.”
“Now you’re making fun- wait!” Thorin had reached out for him, but Bilbo had jumped away. “Now wait a minute, Thorin-”
“Do you really believe I would discover such a glorious thing and not take advantage of it?” Thorin tilted his head. “I have nephews, Bilbo.”
“How am I supposed to know your customs- Thorin, please.”
Bilbo started running, dignity forgotten, although he was laughing already.
The chase was short. Thorin had him pinned against a tree within seconds, the fingers on his midriff much more gentle than he’d imagined as they danced over his belly and ribs and sides in a way that had Bilbo giggling like a fool. He’d not been tickled in years, many of them, and had quite forgotten just how sensitive he was until Thorin had touched his ribs to check for bruising. Had he remembered he might have declined the offer, but-
Well, it wasn’t that bad. Terribly ticklish, of course, but almost nice. Familiar. And Thorin was good at it. Gentle yet firm enough to keep Bilbo in place. Firm yet gentle enough to allow Bilbo room to squirm. It was overwhelming, but not enough to throw him into a proper panic.
Strange.
“Is that a bad spot?” Thorin asked with a laugh, his fingers curling over the curve of Bilbo’s side in a way that made him shriek.
“Yes!” Bilbo dug his elbow into the bark of the tree in an attempt to push Thorin off. His wrists were trapped in Thorin’s grip, but they weren’t raised and Bilbo was free to move around enough to nearly evade the ticklish attacks. That was almost worse.
“I’ve found at least three spots,” Thorin said, moving his hand upward to poke at his ribs, making him jump with each touch. “Perhaps four. Ah.”
“What?” Bilbo said, for he suddenly stopped and allowed him to breathe.
“I lost count,” Thorin said, pressing his lips to Bilbo’s temple. “Let me start over.”

“You tickled me!” Bilbo answered, clearly amused, but also in a tone that sounded as though he believed it had been done deliberately. It hadn’t been, of course, but now a weakness had been exposed, and Thorin couldn’t help but grin. Bilbo seemed to realise his mistake and tried to warn him off with a glare, for all there was no threat to it whatsoever.
“Certainly not my intent,” Thorin dragged Bilbo back into the circle of his arms, tucking him firmly against his chest. Bilbo lay very still as he was held, and Thorin smirked into his hair. “You seem tense, my heart.”
“Don’t you do it,” Bilbo warned, laughter still playing about his tone like light, refreshing summer rain. “Don’t you dare!”
“I have no idea what you’re referring to?” Thorin said with practised neutrality, sliding his large hand down the curve of Bilbo’s back, then across to the swell of his hip.
“I mean it, Thorin!”

Any questions you haven't yet answered for the Hobbit cousins‐ Frodo, Merry, and Pippin! Thank you!
Yesss, my bois! After a bit of discussion, we narrowed this one down to just a few questions, since I can’t recall anyone asking for these three as a trio before and I can’t answer all 15 in one go LOL
1. “When I think they became friends”
Well, I’ve already described how I think Frodo left a good impression on little Merry before he left to go live with Bilbo, setting the stage for their friendship later on; and I’ve also described how I think Merry and Pippin bonded over something stupid when they were young and have been inseparable ever since. I don’t think it’s hard to imagine that the three of them would’ve gotten to know each other over the course of several various family obligations—weddings, birthday parties, etc.—and hit it off, because of course you want to get along with family when you can, and Frodo just seems to jive perfectly well with kids who are a lot younger than him.
2. “My favorite scene of them”
Oh man, can I just say the whole Crickhollow chapter?? I mean we get Pippin splashing in the bath, Merry thoroughly schooling Frodo on how to keep secrets (and then everybody laughing at Frodo’s dumbfounded surprise), Merry and Pippin singing a song they prepared for the occasion—and that wonderful, heart-clenching line from Merry, “We are terribly afraid, but we are going with you, or following you like hounds.” The Crickhollow chapter is just one long fluff fic demonstrating the relationship dynamics of this trio—and Sam and Fatty Bolger!—and I just *clenches fist* love it so much
3. “A random headcanon I have of them”
Have I mentioned before that Pippin is incredibly ticklish? I feel like I must have. It just seems like too much of an obvious fact of the universe for me not to have said it sooner. Pippin is incredibly ticklish, and Merry and Frodo definitely know all of the worst tickle spots to get him thrashing on the floor within seconds.
Merry will sit back, cross his arms, and swear up and down he isn’t ticklish and you can’t make him laugh, no matter how hard you try, no sir, but that’s because he’s secretly protecting his armpits and the back of his neck. Frodo knows this. All he needs is a distraction, and a chance to lean over and brush the tip of a feather under Merry’s ear, and he’ll nearly jump out of his seat and start swinging fists at whoever’s nearby.
Frodo isn’t actually very ticklish, but the fact that anyone would try makes him laugh anyway, so he’s pretty easy to crack. Pippin finds this entertaining. Jury is still out on whether or not he realizes it’s basically cheating, and whether or not he cares.
4. “My favorite thing about them”
I think the beauty of the hobbits is that their friendships all start in very innocuous ways. “Ah yes, my second cousin once removed on his mother’s side, stand-up chap, gave me a gold coin for his birthday once”, etc, etc. And yet those mundane little relationships are so fierce and loyal when it comes down to the wire. Love doesn’t have to start dramatically to be real and true and ride-or-die. Merry and Pippin don’t decide to walk off into the possible jaws of death because Frodo is somebody extraordinary; honestly, aside from being a bit odd, Frodo is kinda just some dude. But they’re willing to risk everything for him, because Frodo is their odd dude, and they don’t want him to face this danger alone. I think that’s beautiful.
5. “A scene I wish we had of them”
Give me the Rivendell slumber parties and sleepy, giggly nighttime conversations or give me DEATH. Rivendell is lovely and homey, but you can’t tell me that the hobbits didn’t get a little lonely sleeping in those huge beds all by themselves for so long. I think there’s room enough on an elf-sized bed for all the hobbits to lie comfortably, lined up like sardines from the foot to the headboard; and I also think they wouldn’t get any sleep until very very late, because Pippin would keep waking everyone else up with some random thought that just popped into his head, and the giggle fits that ensue would take several minutes to calm down. And then another Pippin thought would come. Rinse, and repeat.
10. “A song that reminds me of them”
We’re back to Of Monsters and Men with “Your Bones”. No doubt this is one of the more obtuse of their songs, but I like it for a few reasons:
First, the contrast of the cheerful tune and melancholy lyrics fits the personalities of this trio. Pippin is the loud, cheerful face that you notice first, while Frodo and Merry are the quieter deep waters that you will only see if you take the time to look a little closer.
Second, I like that the song seems to describe a journey of some sort. “In the spring we made a boat/Out of feathers, out of bones/We set fire to our homes/Walking barefoot in the snow”; hobbits always walk barefoot, and the “snow” makes me think of Caradhras. Of course they didn’t literally set fire to their homes, but they did leave them behind, with full knowledge of the possibility that they might never return, and emotionally, those two things can feel much the same way. “Chasing leaves in the wind/Going where we’d never been/Said goodbye to you my friend/As the fire spread”; Merry and Pippin had to part ways from Frodo, and Pippin had to leave Merry (twice!!), and the trio is all separated by the time the final battle rolls around. But that just leads me into my next point—
Third, the chorus. The other lyrics in this song are strange and bewildering—like everything the hobbits encountered once they left the Shire—but the chorus is clear, simple, powerful, and rings out with clarity and purpose. “So hold on/Hold on to what we are/Hold on to your heart”.
Isn’t that the core of LotR? It’s in the relationships. No matter what strange and fantastical things the hobbits encountered on their Quest, what they needed to succeed was something they’d already had back in the Shire, something they’d always had all along. “Hold on to what we are; hold on to your heart.” When all hope is lost, remember your friendships. Remember you are not alone. Remember your purpose. Keep us close; even if we are not there with you, we will give you strength.
But on a less serious note, I also found THIS gem of a behind-the-scenes clip recently. It’s a song! It doesn’t have lyrics, but it’s a song! That counts, right?? 🤣🤣

A Hobbit’s Feet
“Can we see your feet?” Kili asked tilting his head to side a bit
“W-What?” Bilbo answered
“I mean, you don’t have to wear shoes, even when we’re walking on gravel for long periods of time. I just don’t understand how they work, is it like, magic?” Fili asked
Bilbo was sort of bewildered, gazing at the two elves with wonder in their eyes, sitting before him. Watching as they eyed his feet, like they were a present.
“It’s not magic, they’re just, different” Bilbo answered fiddling his fingers
“Different from ours you mean, you never answered can we see them” Kili said reaching a hand out
“Uh, I don’t know, it’s kind of weird”
“What how? They’re not ticklish are they?”
“My feet? No, they’re not?”
“So, it wouldn’t be uncomfortable if we touched them?”
“No, I guess not”
And with that each of the twins grabbed a foot, poking and prodding at the hobbit.
“This hair is so thick!”  Kili said pulling at curly brown hairs
“H-Hey! Not so hard” Bilbo said, still unsure of what this situation was
“This skin is so thick”
“Ya, that’s why I don’t have to wear shoes, it’s hard for anything to cut them”
“If I had a knife would it cut through?” Fili said looking up at the hobbit
“Well, ya”
“Is your skin like this everywhere?” Kili asked, lifting up Bilbo’s shirt to feel his skin, slowly grazing his fingers across his stomach
“Hey! Stahahahap” Bilbo said pushing at his hands and pulling his shirt down
“Wait you are ticklish? You said you weren’t” Fili said poking fingers at Bilbo’s sides
“I said my fehehehet weren't thihihihicklish! Dohohohohn’t!”
“Gasp! We have a liar in our midst!” Kili said mockingly “We must punish the burglar!”
And with that the brothers quickly pinned the smaller man down with Kili sitting on his waist and Fili holding his hands above his head.
“Stahahahap thihihis is childish! Lehehet me gohoho!” Bilbo laughed trying to pull his arms down, to protect himself from Fili’s spidering fingers in his armpits
“No, I think we’re going to do this for a while, you’re very cute when you blush” Kili said tickling his lower ribs
“PLEHEHEHEASE! AHAHAHAHAHA!” Bilbo cried, tears of mirth filling his eyes
“Ok, ok, let’s slow down” Fili said, nodding at his brother, who slowed their tickles to a light, teasing sensation
“Hehehehhe, nohohoho mohohore” Bilbo begged, a redder blush covering his face
“Aww, you’re so cute, such a ticklish little burglar” Kili cooed, lightly spidering his fingers up and down the hobbits arms
“Stohohop teheheasing!”
“But your so, adorably, deliciously ticklish” Fili said started to squeeze the hobbit’s sides
“NOHOHO, DOHOHOHON’T!” Bilbo screamed, pulling his arms out from under Fili, pushing at their hands, while trying to cover himself “Gehehehet Off!”
“Alright, alright” Fili said, stepping off the hobbit. He lay there for a moment catching his breath
“Was- Was this all just a trick to tickle me? Bilbo said still lying on his back
“About half and half” Fili said smiling “Turned out good though”
“Ya, whatever, let’s go, dinner’s ready” Bilbo said
So, whenever they got a chance, the brothers would tickle the poor hobbit, who, didn’t really mind all that much.

A cupcake’s favored weapon
Tumblr media
A/N: Inspired by this I had to write some fluff.
“So, Master Baggins,” Kili said and handed the hobbit a piece of bread. “When an orc attacks you, how do you defend yourself?”
Bilbo blinked in surprise and tried not to drop the bread Kili had just given to him. A little overwhelmed he looked at the dwarves that were gathered around the table at Beorn’s house and tried to read in their faces what they were thinking. Thorin was the only one who wasn’t busy with eating his breakfast. He seemed to suppress a smile.
“Kili, why are you asking me that now?” Bilbo put the bread down on his plate and nervously started to play with his hands.
“Well, I found it pretty impressive how you saved uncle and I was wondering if maybe you have grown enough courage by now to attack an orc by yours- OW!!” Kili moved his arm away from the table and rubbed the sore spot. Bilbo had had about enough with everyone always questioning him and had interrupted Kili’s speech by poking a fork into his upperarm.
“Here.” Bilbo said with a grin as a few dwarves started to chuckle, “Does that answer your question?”
A chuckle could be heard above all the others. Thorin moved on the bench and leaned over the table to look at Bilbo. His eyes were displaying amusement... and fondness. “Very threatening.”
Balin gave Dwalin a meaningful look that didn’t slip Bilbo’s attention and he tried not to sound too flustered, when he answered to the king under the mountain. “Excuse me?”
Thorin smirked and crossed his arms in front of his chest. “I said that was very threatening. The way you poked my nephew. With a fork.”
Kili almost spit out his bread at the sudden urge to laugh out loud at the slight irony in Thorin’s words. Bilbo considered stabbing him with the fork again, but he didn’t want to embarrass himself any further. He blushed slightly and tried to ignore the chuckles all around him. With as much self-esteem as he could muster he said: “You don’t know what I’m capable of.”
Dwalin made an impressed sound at that and Kili nodded with amused interest. Thorin’s smile merely grew wider and showed his pretty teeth. The blue eyes were sparkling with playfulness. Bilbo couldn’t remember ever having seen the dwarf like that before.
“No offense, Master Burglar, but I feel like I’m being threatened by a cupcake.”
That did the rest. The whole company was hitting the table as laughter errupted from them. They were so loud that Gandalf walked into the house to check on them. When he saw a blushing hobbit and a gathering of laughing dwarves, amongst whom a smiling king sat, he nodded satisfied and stepped out into the garden again. Yet again he congratulated himself to having brought Bilbo onto the quest.
Bilbo couldn’t be mad at any of the dwarves for laughing at Thorin’s words. Actually he had to fight the urge to coo, because being called a cupcake by Thorin Oakenshield was kind of sweet. Yet, Bilbo had to make his stand. He was part of a group of warriors. And he would not let Thorin make him look like a cupcake among them.
“Oh, I will show you...” Bilbo muttered, the same playful spark in his eyes, that was dancing in Thorin’s. Before anyone had quite noticed he had slipped underneath the surface of the table.
When Thorin meant to give the hobbit another playful look he was gone. Surprised he straightened his position at the table. “Did Bilbo leave?” He asked into the round, before considering that the others might wonder why he asked. He blushed slightly and was grateful that his beard covered most of his face.
Balin shrugged at Thorin’s words and started to look around the room when suddenly Thorin started to yell incoherent words. The whole party reached for their arms when Thorin started yelling but they relaxed and sat back quickly when they realized what was going on.
The loud shouting turned into hearty laughter in a few seconds and the sight of Thorin banging his fists against the table and trying to sink down from the bench made all of the other dwarves raise their eyebrows and smile widely.
“NOHOHO!!! NO!!! NOHOHONE OF THAT!! STAHAHAP!! BILBO!!!”
Kili was the first who checked under the table and saw that the hobbit had crawled over to Thorin’s seat and was now madly tickling up and down the dwarf’s legs. He was squeezing his ticklish knee caps and dug his thumbs into the sensitive flesh of the inner thighs.
With a chuckle Kili resurfaced and grinned at his companions. “He’s tickling him.”
Balin smiled warmly at that and remembered the days in which Thorin had been young. Kili and Fili exchanged looks that seemed to recall memories of them teaming up against their uncle during sparring matches. Everyone seemed enchanted by Thorin’s loud, unrestrained laughter.
The king was struggling as best as he could and eventually managed to slip from the bench. But Bilbo was fast and before Thorin was capable to slip away, the hobbit was upon him, digging mercilessly into his sides now and using every opening to reduce Thorin to an even harder giggling mess.
Shaken by endless, uncontrollable laughter Thorin rolled out from underneath the table with Bilbo following every one of his moves. Balin could barely recall a time he had seen Thorin giggle that carefree. With his eyes glistening and his nose scrunched up he tried to escape by robbing away from the hobbit, but Bilbo caught him by sitting down on his lower back and sneaked his hands into Thorin’s armpits, tickling him to no end.
“Well??” He called triumphantly. “Do you give up already??”
Thorin was barely able to breathe properly due to Bilbo’s mischievous attack and therefore only clapped the floor with one hand, calling “I GIVE I GIHIHIIVE!!”
Chuckling softly Bilbo slid off of Thorin’s back and sat down beside him with an innocent smile. “I told you.” He said. “You don’t know what I’m capable of.”
Thorin was wheezing, but rolled on his back anyway and chuckled at his own predicament. That allowed for the entire party to burst out laughing and he could merely shake his head. A king getting tickled to tears. That was one rare sight.
“Still.” Thorin held against Bilbo’s words and smirked at him in a way that made Bilbo’s heart flutter. “Only a cupcake would use tickling as a weapon-” He could barely finish his sentence before Bilbo made his way to scramble over to him for some more of his favored weapon.
Laughing hysterically, Thorin got to his feet and fled, literally fled from the devious hobbit and his skilled fingers.
He made a run for the garden and allowed for Gandalf and Beorn to see a highly amusing show as he staggered over the grass, followed by a very happy hobbit. Thorin could barely hold himself on his feet from laughing alone and Bilbo was evermore sweet and loving as he chased the heir of Durin until he fell over his own feet and made an easy victim.
Beorn did have to admit that giggling dwarves were kind of likeable, while Gandalf realized that a hobbit and a dwarf could actually be perfect for one another...

7. Their tickle spots
hi thank you! I have Opinions™ on this!
Gandalf is, sadly (to him), very ticklish. one of the restrictions placed on the Istari was having very human like responses and some limitations (due to the whole ‘the Ainur keep trying to take over the world thing) and Gandalf (and all the Istari including Saruman) are ticklish. Gandalf is most ticklish under his chin, under his arms, above his knees, and on his stomach. Most people don’t know this, however, and he intends to keep it that way (through threats of violence)
Legolas is ticklish like... everywhere. Just everywhere on his skin if the touch is light enough. Ticklish enough to shriek and squirm if someone tickles him deliberately. He also giggles a lot when people brush up against him. When he gets tickled he protests a lot and then comes back for more, and he likes being chased and then tickled (he’s very young at heart). If you pretend like you’re going to tickle him, he already laughs. Sometimes if someone is trying to tickle him he’ll try to bite them, but he doesn’t bite hard, and he thinks the biting is funny too. Aragorn sometimes bothers him too much, and then Legolas will climb a tree and throw pine cones or acorns or apples at him. Most ticklish spots are chest/ribs, stomach (especially navel), legs, and neck
Gimli pretends he isn’t ticklish, but he’s ticklish on his stomach, sides, and inside of his elbows. He tells everyone in the Fellowship that Dwarves aren’t ticklish, and they don’t realise he’s lying until someone tries tickling him when he isn’t wearing his mail shirt (it covers all his ticklish spots)
Aragorn is most ticklish under his arms, on his stomach and up his ribs, and feet but those are hard to get at since he has long limbs to protect his stomach and long legs for kicking. If you tickle him beneath the chin, he sneezes. Pippin found this out playing buttercup with him and now tries to make him sneeze as often as he can because it’s funny
Frodo is very ticklish on his neck, under his arms, stomach, sides, thighs and knees. He hates this because Merry and Pippin know and can gang up on him. Bilbo tickled him on the side a lot when he was young and being sad, so Merry and Pippin tickling him isn’t all as bad as he makes it out to be, as it reminds him of Bilbo. (Sam didn’t dare tickle him until Strider did it first and told Sam too. Then he found out Frodo liked it.)
Boromir is ticklish in a very undignified way, and he doesn’t like it. Faramir, Merry, and Pippin are pretty much the only people in the world he ever really lets tickle him (without it turning into full on wrestling.) He’s most ticklish on the sides of his stomach, his ears, back, and feet
Sam is most ticklish on his bottom, his knees, and under his arms. He can pull a pretty good game of pretending he’s not ticklish if someone goes after his stomach or ribs because he isn’t very ticklish there. He’s a bit ticklish on his stomach when he’s drunk though
Merry is most ticklish on his ribs and thighs, but he’s also got ticklish ears and nose. He’s very sensitive to things like pepper and sawdust and feathers and dust and the like, which Pippin has used evilly against him in fights. (Pretty easy to blow dust in his face.) He’s very pleased that he’s not more ticklish than Pippin is, though, in terms of tickling not related to bothering his nose
Pippin is one of the few hobbits who is ticklish on his feet. He’s also got arms, underarms, chest, ribs, and thighs as weak spots, but isn’t very ticklish on his stomach, which annoys Merry, since it’s a bit hard to get him to double over or fall over laughing. You can drop him by tickling his legs hard enough though, if he got you on the ground. Very annoying for Pippin. Very good for Merry.

Interview with a Fic Writer
Tagged by @fordanoia, thank you so much! ;w;;
__
How many works do you have on AO3?
I have a total of 67 works posted on AO3. (Even more on my ancient FF.net account.)
Of these, 38 are for Steven Universe, 17 are for Gravity Falls, 8 are for Doctor Who, and 5 are for Trollhunters. (One of the Trollhunters fics and one of the Gravity Falls fics are the same story, though- it’s a crossover, ahah!)
Out of the bulk of them, most are one-shots.
What’s your total word count on AO3
271,227 words.
...damn, that’s pretty decent. Hot shit, Jen.
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Oh hey, the answer I already gave above! Yeah, I’ve only written for 4 fandoms in my entire life. I’ve actually written tons more Doctor Who than I’ve posted on AO3, but it’s older fic I wrote when I was 12-18, so... not exactly up to my current standards of writing. There’s a reason I haven’t cross-posted many of those.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1) Hollowed Moon (AKA the abandoned Spinel and Stevonnie one) with 2,709 kudos
2) Crack the Paragon, my long fic, with 1,398 kudos
3) Shattering Atlas with 627 kudos
4) Contact with 476 kudos
5) Bi the Way... with 279 kudos
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try my best to! I’ve made some friends before by responding back and forth in fic comments, so I always think it’s fun to engage with my readers in that way.
Fun fact: if you theorize or muse about lore in the comments of any of my fics, I will also muse about lore with you! I love discussing deep character/plot stuff, and sometimes even go in a bit deeper about my thought process while writing certain bits when people ask me about stuff.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Probably either Shattering Atlas (mentioned above) or The Price of Freedom, since they’re blatantly Hurt, No Comfort. Even the angstiest of most of my fics tend to suggest a light at the end of the tunnel, but those flat out END in a depressing manner, ahah. Fun to write, but... damn. You were sure goin’ through it then, huh Jen? Pat pat. XD
Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever written?
I have posted a single crossover- the start of a Gravity Falls/Trollhunters fusion sort of thing where teen Stanley ends up becoming the trollhunter, and meets Blinky and Arrrgghh. I got 4 chapters and about 15K in before I got sucked into Steven Universe hell, so I never continued it. Wrote a pretty bomb ass fight scene for it, though.
(I co-wrote one other crossover when I was a teen with some friends at a sleepover- it was the most Wild Dumb Bullshit ever, pretty much throwing Spiderman and Sherlock and Bilbo Baggins and the Doctor into a room together and locking the door. @yourstylishmom I know you know what I’m talking about, uhsndghjdj w h e e z e)
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Not that I can recall. The only strange comments I’ve gotten have been like... people debating about Spinel in the comments thread of Hollowed Moon...? That was bizarre. More amusing than anything, though.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I mean, I HAVE written smut before. Your typical kinky bullshit. Have I posted it, though? No. Will I ever? No. It’s for my eyes, and my eyes only.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I’m aware of.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope!
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I did do a lot of Fiddauthor RP with @the-ill-doctor back in my Gravity Falls era! Those were some lovely times. ;w; <3 A portion of those RPs have been shared in a fic format, too--> The Time We Lost, the Time We Mended
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
I don’t exactly have ONE all-time favorite, but the only ones I’ve ever sat down and created genuine content for are the Doctor/Clara Oswald, Ford/Fiddleford, and Steven/Connie.
What’s a WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Hmmm. Second Skin. There’s only two more short chapters I need to write, but I kinda started writing that as a vent fic, and... I’m (thankfully) not in that mindset anymore.
What are your writing strengths?
I like to think that I write pretty decent character dialogue, and have a knack for capturing the voices of at least a few of ‘em. Some are definitely easier than others, though! Steven, Amethyst, and Greg tend to be the easiest for me when writing SU fic. And back in my Gravity Falls days, I found it easiest to write Ford and Stan.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I don’t know how to write fluff. I don’t understand romance. I technically understand the CONCEPT of it, but I have never myself experienced what I would consider true romantic attraction, so I have no clue what that experience feels like. I tried writing romance once in Ticklish, a teen Steven/Connie fic, but I to this day have no idea if this is what it’s actually LIKE. XD
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I don’t really have any opinion on this, truth be told. I’ve never really run into this in the fic I read- but I’m guessing it shows up in plenty of anime fandoms.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Doctor Who! That was the first fandom I read a fic for, too. If we’re counting unpublished fic that we wrote before we understood the concept of fanfiction, though... then the game Blinx the Time Sweeper *wheeze*
What’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written?
1) Crack the Paragon. It’s certainly the longest, most recent fic I’ve worked on- and I like to think the character work I’ve dug into with that is pretty neat.
2) Contact. This is the first true finished multichapter SU fic I have, and I think it’s cool to finally look back on this project as a cohesive short story, and be proud of myself for seeing it to the end.

In Due Time; The Hobbit: Various x Modern! Reader
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chapter 1
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Key:
[Y/N] = Your Name
[E/C] = Eye Color
[Y/A] = Your Age
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The chance meeting Thorin and I had with Gandalf in Bree happened nearly 6 years ago. We took Gandalf’s words to heart and gathered thirteen dwarfs we trusted the most to come along with us. Among those thirteen, were Thorin’s nephews, my best friends. To my surprise, and glee, while I am in Middle-Earth, I do not like a regular human does. I age at the pace of a Dwarf. Dwarfs normally lived to be about 200 years old. I was currently [Y/A].
At the current moment, I
Tumblr media
was ridding through the Shire on my pony, Jessabelle. Jessabelle was a white Shetland Pony. To my left, rode one of my best friends, Fíli
Tumblr media
to my right, rode my second best friend, Kíli.
Tumblr media
I sighed, lost in thought. A poke to the side brought me out of my thoughts. I squealed lightly. My sides were very ticklish. I glared at the culprit. Fíli smirked.
“What’s on your mind, *Kurkarukê?” He asked. While in the company of the Dwarfs, I had learned that the word, Kurkarukê, meant Tiny Raven in Khuzdul, the ancient language of the Dwarfs. I glared playfully at the older brother.
“I’m just thinking about how vague Gandalf is with his directions,” I said. I cupped my hand below my chin, acting as if I were holding a pipe. “‘Go to the Hobbit Hole with a green door in the Shire at the top of the hill’.” I mimicked Gandalf’s deep voice. We let out a hoot of laughter. Kíli sighed after his bout of laughter.
“That wizard does have a way with directions.” He said. I nodded. We came to a Hobbit Hole with a green door. A mark that looked similar to an F was put onto the door. It glowed blue in the moon light. We saw two other ponies tied to the fence. We respectively tied our ponies to the fence as well before walking up to the door. Fíli rang the doorbell and linked arms with his comrades, I was standing in the middle. The door was opened to reveal a short fellow, a hair shorter than us three, with curly brown hair on his head. He wore night clothes and a robe tied tightly around his waist.
Tumblr media
He gave out a sort of whimper at seeing the the new company.
“Fíli.” Fíli introduced.
“Kíli.” Kíli introduced. I gave a smile.
“And [Y/N].” We then bowed.
“At your service.” We said in unison.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Bilbo stared only at the woman in front of him, seeming captivated by her beauty.
“You must be Mr. Boggins.” Kíli said cheerfully, unlinking arms with the woman by his side. Bilbo shook himself from his trance.
"Nope, you can't come in you've come to the wrong house." Bilbo said. As he tried to close the door, [Y/N] stopped it with her foot. She looked confused, scared and angry.
“T-there’s no way he cancelled it,” she said. Fíli looked to his friend then back at the Hobbit.
“No one told us.” Fíli said, just as confused as his best friend and his brother. Bilbo narrowed his eyes in exasperation.
“Can..? No nothing’s been cancelled.” He said. [Y/N] placed a hand to her heart in relief. A smile broke out on Kíli’s face. He along with Fíli had wanted nothing more than to go on this journey along with their uncle and best friend. They would have been devastated to learn that it had actually been cancelled. The Dwarfs, plus [Y/N], pushed their way in.
“Careful with these, I just had ‘em sharpened.” Fíli said as he began unloading his stuff, mainly all of his weapons he carried with him, onto Bilbo. [Y/N] looked around in amazement. The Hobbit Hole was nothing like she had imagined. At first, she had imagined a dirty, wet hole, full of worms and oozy smells. But instead, she found a beautifully carved out house with walls, a kitchen, a bedroom and a bathroom. As well as what smelt like good food and the heat of a warm hearth.
~~~~~~~~~~
“It’s nice, this place,” I said, looking around. I looked to where Fíli was still unloading his mountain of weapons into the arms of the Hobbit. “Did you do it yourself?” I asked. Kíli started to scrape the mud off of his boots on the edge of a chest sitting nearby.
“Ah, no it’s been in the family for years. That’s my mother’s glory box, can you please not do that?!” Bilbo called angrily at Kíli. A large, but warm hand was placed upon my shoulder. I turned my head and was met with the smiling face of Dwalin.
Tumblr media
Said Dwarf, I reached his chest in height, leaned down and gently placed his forehead against mine. This was what Dwarfs normally did to show love and affection towards each other. We closed our eyes in content.
“Hello, *nathith.” Father said. I smiled.
“Hello, *Adad.” I said as we opened our eyes and pulled away. Since I didn’t really have a family of my own in Middle-Earth when I first came, Dwalin took pity on me and adopted me as his daughter. Father gently cupped my cheek. I leaned into his touch.
“I trust you have been well since last I saw you.” He said. I nodded smiling at my Father.
“Yup! Right as rain!” I said. Dwalin laughed. He saw the two Princes. He walked over to them, placing his hand on Kíli’s shoulder.
“Fíli, Kíli, come on, give us a hand.” He said. Kíli smiled at the taller Dwarf.
“Mister Dwalin.” Kíli said, laughing. Fíli walked through and clapped Balin,
Tumblr media
my adoptive Uncle, on the arm in greeting.
“Let’s shove this in the hallway, otherwise we’ll never get everyone in.” Balin said.
“Ev-everyone? How many more are there?” Bilbo asked. His question went unanswered as Balin walked out of the dinning room and made his way to his niece. Balin smiled as he took my hands in his own.
“Hello, [Y/N].” He said, pulling into a hug. I hugged back, smiling.
“Hello, *Irak’Adad.” I said. The doorbell rung again, causing Bilbo to rush to the door.
“And how is my favorite niece?” Balin asked. I giggled.
“Uncle, I’m your only niece, so I have to be your favorite.” She said. Balin chuckled and nodded.
“Right you are, lassie,” he said. He then frowned. “[Y/N], are you sure you want to go through with this? The journey is bound to be dangerous. I wouldn’t want anything to happen to you.” He said. I nodded.
“I am sure, Uncle. Erebor was as much my home as it was yours, even if I was not born and raised there. Plus, I’ve been trained by Father, the most fiercest warrior among us, besides yourself.” I said. Balin smiled.
“Very well.” He said.
~~~~~~~~~~
A little while later, [Y/N], along with the other Dwarfs who had fallen into Bilbo’s home, had started raiding Bilbo’s pantry. By this time, Bilbo had changed out of his night shirt, pants and robe. He changed into a shirt, some trousers, and some suspenders.
“Those are my plates! Excuse me! Not my wine. Put that back. Put that back! Not the jam, please! ...Excuse me.” Bilbo’s cries went ignored as the Dwarfs continued to take his plates, wine and ale, and food. “Excuse me. Tad excessive, isn’t it?” Bilbo asked as a Dwarf named Bombur,
Tumblr media
walked out of the pantry with three wheels of cheese. “Have you got a cheese knife?” Bilbo asked.
“Cheese knife? He eats it by the block.” A Dwarf named Bofur
Tumblr media
said.
Bofur laid eyes on [Y/N], and he smiled. He walked up to her.
“Why Miss [Y/N], how lovely it is to see you here this fine evenin’.” Bofur said. [Y/N] smiled back at the Dwarf.
“Hello, Mister Bofur. It is wonderful to see you.” She said. Bofur always knew how to make [Y/N] smile, even on the most cloudy of days.
Gandalf walked out of the dinning room, trying to avoid scurrying Dwarfs when he could. He hit his head on the chandelier. Once he steadied it, Gandalf began counting the Dwarfs on his fingers, making sure everyone was accounted for.
“Fili, Kili, Oin, Gloin, Dwalin, Balin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Dori, Nori, Ori and [Y/N].” He finished counting.  Bifurcation walked up to Gandalf. He said something is Khuzdul and then tapped his arm.
Tumblr media
Gandalf nodded.
"You are quite right, Bifur. We appear to be one Dwarf short."
"He is late is all," a voice said. Gandalf looked down and saw [Y/N]. "He traveled North to a meeting of his Kin. He will come." She said. She walked off to help with other preparations.
"Mr. Gandalf?" Dori said. Gandalf turned to the Dwarf, who was holding two small glasses of red wine. "A glass of red wine as requested. It's got a fruity bouquet." Dori said. Gandalf took the glass and nodded in thanks to the Dwarf.
"Ah, cheers." He downed the red wine. He then looked sadly at the cup, wanting a little more.
A little while later, they were all sitting at Bilbo's dinning room table having a grand feast.
"Bombur catch!" Bofur called out to his brother as he threw a piece of food at him. Bombur opened his mouth and caught the food in his mouth. The Dwarfs all cheered. [Y/N] was sitting near the end of the table, Dori sitting on her right and Dwalin on her left.
As everyone began throwing food around, Bilbo walked away in disgust. He turned his gaze to the woman with [H/C] hair. Her laughter sounded like bells to music to his ears. As he looked at her smiling, Bilbo couldn't help but smile lightly as well. He turned away, only to look at his pantry in shock; it had been entirely cleared of food.
~~~~~~~~~
Fíli walked on top of the table, carrying several cups of ale and knocking aside the food in his way.
"Who wants an ale? There you go." Fíli said, handing Father another Ale. I playfully smacked my best friend's leg as he passed.
"Let him have another drink," Dwalin said, referring to Óin.
Tumblr media
"Here ya go." Father poured the ale down Óin's hearing trumpet. Father turned the tankard over and slammed his hands down on the table in laughter. Óin sputtered in anger and put his trumpet to his lips. He blew the ale out, making the trumpet squeal. I held my stomach as I laughed.
~~~~~~~~~
Kíli looked at [Y/N] and smiled softly. Kíli loved the way her [E/C] orbs shone when she smiled or laughed. [Y/N] caught Kíli's gaze and she smiled. Kíli smiled back. He looked up and caught Dwalin's glare. In a quick moment, Kili raised his mug.
"On the count of three!" Kíli shouted, catching the other Dwarfs attention at starting a drinking contest. The Dwarfs lifted their tankards. "One!...Two!" Then all the Dwarfs went quiet and began drinking their ale together. They were incredibly messy, as ale fell all over their faces and ran down their beards. [Y/N] watched on in amusement. She chose not to drink, for Ale tasted horrible to her. When finished drinking, the Dwarfs begin burping; the youngest, Ori, let out the biggest burp. The Dwarfs and [Y/N] laughed. Bilbo looked away in disgust.
~~~~~~~~
Once dinner was over, I was standing in the hallway, leaning against a wall. Fíli walked over and leaned against the wall opposite of me. I smiled at my best friend.
"Are you enjoying the party?" Fíli asked. I nodded, smiling.
"That I am. Are you, Master Dwarf?" I asked. Fíli nodded, stating into her eyes.
Kíli watched from afar, glaring slightly at his brother. Balin walked over and placed his hand on Kíli's shoulder.
"Love makes us do strange things." Balin said, also watching the conversation going on between his niece and the oldest Prince. Kíli smiled and shook his head.
"I-I'm not in love." He said. Balin looked at the youngest Prince.
"So you weren't just glaring at your older brother for speaking to my niece." He stated. Kíli blushed and looked away. Balin chuckled. "Just know, that if she does turn out to be your One, treat her with kindness and love." Balin said as he walked away. Little Ori's voice caught mine and Fíli's attention.
“Excuse me, I’m sorry to interrupt, but what should I do with my plate?” Ori asked, looking down at his plate then up at Bilbo. Fíli looked at you and winked. He then walked over to Ori.
“Here you go Ori, give it to me.” Fili looked over at me and winked, making me blush lightly. Fili took the plate from Ori and threw it to Kili, who in return, threw it behind his back to Bifur, who was standing at the sink in the kitchen. Bifur caught it behind his back, without even looking at it. I watched on in amusement as Kili, Fili, and other dwarves began throwing the plates, bowls, and utensils to each other, eventually throwing them to the sink to be washed. As dishware flew through the air, Gandalf ducked to avoid getting hit. Poor Bilbo was stressing out over the whole ordeal.
“Excuse me, that’s my mother’s West Farthing crockery, it’s over a hundred years old!” Bilbo shouted. I laughed and made my way over to the Hobbit.
“Relax, Mister Bilbo! There’s no use in telling them to stop. Dwarfs listen to no one.” I said. The dwarves at the table began rhythmically drumming on the table with utensils and their fists.
~~~~~~~
Ignoring [Y/N]’s words, Bilbo made his way over to the table and stood in the door way.
“And can-can you not do that? You’ll blunt them!” Bilbo shouted. Bofur made eye contact with the only female in the company and winked, making her face go red again. A mischievous smile crossed his lips.
“Ooh, d’hear that, lads? He says we’ll blunt the knives.” Bofur said. [Y/N] knew a song was coming on.
~~~~~~~~
“Blunt the knives, bend the forks,” I smiled as Kili started to sing, still tossing the utensils. “Smash the bottles and burn the corks.” Fili joined in, bouncing a bowl from one elbow to the other.
“Chip the glasses and crack the plates,” by now, the others had joined in the singing. I stood off to the side, smiling, watching and listening. “That’s what Bilbo Baggins hates! Cut the cloth and tread on the fat, leave the bones on the bedroom mat. Pour the milk on the pantry floor, splash the wine on every door! Dump the crocks in a boiling bowl, pound them up with a thumping pole. When you’ve finished, if any are whole, send them down the hall to roll!” I laughed as they added music, Father playing the fiddle and Bofur playing his flute. I was slightly shocked when a hand was held out to me. I looked at the owner and saw Kili. I smiled and took his hand. He placed one hand on my waist and held my hand with the other. I placed my other hand on his shoulder. We bounced and twirled around the room, laughing and staring into each other’s eyes. “That’s what Bilbo Baggins hates!” With those last words, music stopped. Kili and I stopped dancing and stood still, breathing hard. I smiled, looking into Kili’s brown eyes. Three, loud, thumping knocks resounded in the house, dragging our attention to it. All commotion and conversation stopped, being replaced with silence. Gandalf looked around the room, lowering his pipe. He broke the silence.
“He is here.” I smiled. I knew exactly who was behind that door. And I was more than excited to see him.
~~~~~~~~~
//I am so sorry! This took me longer than I thought to finish and post. I had lost inspiration to continue writing the story, but now I feel like I have the inspiration to continue writing it. I hope you all can forgive me for not updating sooner. If the transition between first and third person writing, symbolized by this, ~~~~~, is too confusing, then please let me know so I can fix it. I want you all to enjoy this. Anywho, I hope you like it and stay tuned for chapter 2.//

The Hobbit: Light Of My Life || Thorin x Female Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Warnings: Language, angst, sadness, fluff.
Pairings: Thorin Oakenshield x Female (Human) Reader
Summary: Ever since you joined The Company, you’ve gotten along well with everybody, including Thorin’s nephews. Though you’ve tried to get close with Thorin, he’d brush you off. Unbeknownst to you, the Dwarf King has taken a liking to you, though he chooses not to show it. You’re the light of The Company, and his heart, but he’s afraid to admit it due to worries that it’ll distract him from the mission, or you may reject him. When finally, one night after you get upset due to dealing with stress, he decides he can’t hold himself back anymore and walks over to talk to you.
“Kili-- Kili, don’t stand on that! It’s dangerous!” Your voice was heard throughout the small campground, as you mothered the two reckless brothers. “Oh, Fili. Not you too!”
Crash
“Mahal, why?! What did I do to deserve this?!” Kili cried dramatically, shaking his fist at the sky.
“I told you,” you sigh, walking over to the little pile. Fili & Kili thought it would be a good idea to climb on a dying tree, its branches barely able to carry its own weight. The pair fell atop each other, letting a small ‘oof’ out at the impact. In an attempt to pull Kili up, you grab at his wrist, only resulting you in being tugged down to topple them. “H-Hey!” While you three play fought, the rest of The Company watched from their seats, chuckling and enjoying the scene unravel. Thorin simply shook his head and let out a deep breath, though he too found it entertaining.  “Come on, that’s enough, boys!” Dwalin called as your sides were being tickled mercilessly by Kili, and held down by Fili.
“Don’t just stand there!” You yell breathlessly, “Help me, dammit!” But nobody moved. Eventually, you were able to shake yourself out of Fili’s grip and kick Kili off, now straddling him and tickling his sides. Honestly, you weren’t expecting to get a reaction, but you found that this warrior. This prince himself, was in fact, ticklish!  You three carried on, playing like children. Though Thorin felt a pang of jealousy in his heart when he watched you give all your attention to his nephews. Even sitting atop of Kili willingly! As hard headed as he was, he sighed deeply, knowing it was still his fault. You had tried your best to get along with Thorin. You weren’t exactly on bad terms, but he was a very stoic man. Hard to see through, and not as ‘sociable’ as the rest of The Company. You were the complete opposite. Like sunshine, always clearing up a sad atmosphere and replacing it with cheerful energy. When you acted as Fili & Kili’s playmate, when you cooked with Bombur, or when you helped Oin with his herbs and simply chatted with Bilbo. Even when you get sad, you put others happiness first. And Thorin liked that about you.  The way your laugh rubbed off on everyone, the way your hair naturally curled at the end, and even if you were quite possibly the sweetest creature in Middle Earth, you were also deadly. You weren’t naive or dependent. You knew how to watch over yourself and fight. As much as Thorin cared for you, he refused to show it in fear that you would distract him from the mission at hand. But he knew he would have you. He couldn’t live with himself, knowing that he just let the light of his life slip away. His One.
***
Over the sound of the crackling fire, Thorin caught the sound of sniffling and soft mumbling. Everybody else was asleep while he took watch, and he knew the only one besides him must be you. The Company acknowledged that you would usually have trouble sleeping. Sometimes only getting a mere two hours before having to continue traveling. Thorin looked over to the boulder not far from him, where you were leaned up against, burying your head into your knees.
“Y/N?” He whispered softly, a concerned expression growing on his face. “Are you okay?”
“Why do you care?” Your voice was muffled, but you didn’t sound mad at Thorin.
“Well,” he started, getting up to walk over to you. “I’m not just gonna let you cry all night without questioning you.” He plopped down beside you, nudging you to look at him. Slowly, you raised your head to make eye contact with him. His blue eyes glimmered under the moonlight, while your eyes were red and puffy with dark circles under them. “Mahal, I’ve never seen you like this. What’s the matter?”
Truthfully, you say “I don’t even know.. It’s just..” Thorin gives you a look, waiting for your answer. “It’s whatever. Nothing to concern yourself with.” Your attitude changes from sad to seemingly irritated within a second.
“You can’t act like this and expect me not to care.”
“You’ll laugh at me if I tell you. Feelings express weakness.”
“No, Y/N. You can talk to me,” he reassures. You look away from him,
“I really don’t know what’s wrong with me.. I know I’m usually happy but I just felt empty all of a sudden. I guess I miss the feeling of love and affection, and it sounds so stupid but--”  Thorin stops your ramble, “Y/N, everybody here loves you. I’ve seen the way my nephews look at you. They think you’re an amazing warrior and a person, as does everyone else. You’ve been nothing but a light to the whole Company.”
“I know what you mean!” You grumble, “I’m not talking about that kind of love. I love The Company like family, but that’s not what I crave. It’s been years since I’ve felt a romantic type of love for someone, but whoops, I caught feelings for somebody who doesn’t remotely like me the same way.”
“What are you talking about?” Thorin swallows the lump in his throat, in fear you’ve caught feelings for someone other than him. What if it was Kili? Or Dwalin? Maybe someone at home? How could you ever love him, when all he’s done was distance himself from you?
“I’ve tried to show him how much I care for him, but he doesn’t notice. He just keeps pushing me away and it hurts,” you admit, sniffling again.
“Tell me about him. What’s he like?”
“Gods, he’s just..Amazing.” you say, gazing up into the sky. “He’s a real warrior. Strong, handsome, and I find his voice soothing, except for when he’s telling me to shut up.”
“How could you fall for someone who’s only pushed you away?” Thorin continues to ask.
You sigh, “From the start, I felt this pull to him. We’re complete opposites, but I enjoy his presence, even if he looks at me like I’m insane. I know there’s a heart in him. I’ve seen the way he talks to his.. family..” You almost say ‘nephews’, but that would give you away completely. “He doesn’t usually show it, but he’s very protective and caring. Just hardened by his life battles. That’s why I keep trying. Then again, he’s always busy and I doubt he’d care for me like I do for him. I’m probably not his ideal mate, anyway. Still, I’d give anything to tell him how I feel.”
Oh, darling, you just did. Thorin thought to himself. Slowly, you felt him wrap his strong arms around you, pulling him against his chest. It was unexpected. There’s one time you had to lean against him for warmth, but you’ve never been this intimate.  “He knows, Y/N.”
You process his words, and in realization, you look up at Thorin, with a questioning look in your eyes.
“T-Thorin..?” You felt your cheeks flush.
“Amralime,” he says. “I’ve always felt the same way. I just couldn’t tell you in risk of distracting myself from the quest.”
“You know I’d fight with you till the very end. I love you, Thorin, and I don’t want you to be afraid to show me how you feel.”  At that, he pulls you into a kiss, catching you off guard. Though you didn’t complain, and savored the moment. When you both finally pulled away for air, he whispered to you, “I love you, Y/N. You’re the light of my life and I’d be happy to call you mine.”

Fili x reader
Tumblr media
Imagine making a flower crown and making Fili wear it. Knife hiding . Douche legolas , he thinks he has a big dick. Fili , kili, thorin survive the battle of the five armies.
A little cringe, all my imagines are ngl, this is my longest fic.
Word count:2923
You were apart of the company, in which you had just arrived at Beorns house. He seems to like you because you weren’t a dwarf nor orc. You had asked him if you could pick some of his daisies from his garden, he allowed you too,telling you help yourself.
You were had became very close to the princes, and Bilbo. You were very sarcastic,like Bilbo ,Bilbo would defend you in any situation with his sassy comments. Although,you had grew to like Fili very much, you knew you didn’t have an chance with him, as one day he would be king. You were a human girl, you weren’t from middle earth you had nothing to offer the prince.
That didn’t stop you from liking him, no matter how much you wanted to drop your feelings.Did I mention that you called Bilbo , Dildo Gaggins, well you did. You had only explained to Fili what it meant , he thought it was hilarious. You both didn’t dare to tell Kili in case he told sweet Bilbo. Kili couldn’t keep anything a secret.
But right now you sat in the grass , in Beorns garden,making a flower crown out of large daisies. You had made it like a daisies chain just with giant daisies ,as you weren’t sure how to make an actual flower crown. The blades of green grass tickled your bare calf’s, up to your swimming trunks. Don’t ask why you just thought swimming trunks were better than actual shorts. The company were surprised with your clothing choices, not being like anything they have ever seen anyone wearing.
Your hands worked restlessly on the crown, you knew who you wanted to gift it to. It didn’t take long, as you really wanted to get back inside before the bees started chasing you , or Thorin lectured you on safety. That he wouldn’t be able to keep you safe if he didn’t know your location. He had a thing with keeping you safe, you knew there wasn’t many Darrowdams left but they were plenty of female men left. You just didn’t understand it , to be quite honest.
It was early in the morning you hadn’t slept that night , you were restless that night. you told Bilbo that if anyone asked you were just getting some fresh air , but you weren’t sure if he had listened he was barely a wake at that point. It was getting brighter by the minute. You were full aware that everyone was awake now, from the noise coming from the house.
You were about to stand up and head inside,but a soft thud came from beside you. You jumped, and turned your head to see Fili smiling at you, you frowned. “You made me jump.” You grumbled. “Hey I’m sorry , I just came to see if you was alright and hadn’t runaway.” He chuckled.
You told feel the a gush of wind it you harshly , as the sun hit you warming you slightly. “ and where would I run away to? It’s not like it can get home.” You were slightly grumpy from having no sleep, yet Fili was quite joyful. “I thought you might’ve found an elven prince.” He smirked. “Damn how did you know?” You gasped , you had finished the flower crown , lifting it up in your palms eyeing it as did Fili.
“Did you get any sleep last night ,y/n?” He questioned eyeing your h/c hair that the sun brightened.“...yes.” You picked at the strands of grass avoiding his gaze. “So you been out here all night?”
“No only for a couple of hours , it was too yuck in there. Bombur needs to lay of the cheese.” You gagged at the thought of last night he chuckled at your response. “I agree.”
You turned to look up at Fili , with the flower crown in hand you eyed his golden Maine, damn he doesn’t have a crown but he’s a prince. “I made this for you, will you wearing it,Fili?” You questioned nervously he smirked looking at it and you blushed face. “..you made me a flower crown..?” He admired your affections he did like you well more that you knew.
You frowned in disappointment going to stand, “fine I’ll give it to kili instead of you don’t wa-“ “NO I want it.” He interrupted you, you giggled in delight of his outburst, you kneeled I front of him. Damn you wish it was to blow his horn. Sorry. You placed the crown upon his head gently.
He smiled at you , “a crown for a prince.” Fili looked so cute with it upon his locks, he smirked at you words.”thank you y/n, I love it.” He pulled you up to your feet , and embraced you into a hug with you happily returned. “Come in we are leaving soon.” He spoke pulling away and dragging you in by the hand.
Once you arrived inside you dropped his hand , and walked over to Bilbo, the company smirked at Fili. Bilbo was eating some sorta food.”Well hello master Gaggins , I hope you didn’t have a sausage, I would hate for you to choke.” You smirked down at the hobbit. He gasped now figuring out why you had called him that. He was about to say something before Fili and kili walked over to the two of you.
“Oh Fili I love your flower crown, it’s compliments your hair.” Kili gushed,Fili grumbled at his brother.
“Oi, you are jealous that I didn’t make you one, kili. “ you smiled at the brunette prince.
“Yes I am, why did he get one?” Fili was intrigued for your answer, kili frowned that he didn’t get one. Typical really if you think about it.
“He was the first one to come talk to me,now I must make sure all my stuff is packed for our journey.” You spoke leaving them , Fili frowned lightly.
And soon you were off to Mirkwood, only to be attacked by spiders then saved by Dildo, then attacked again then saved by elves. You stood next to Fili and Kili as they searched you for weapons, a elf came towards you to search you. Thorin almost bit his throat out with his eyes as the blond elf searched you.
“Uh mister elf?” The elf was about to search to u before looking you in the eyes, nodding. “Are you a prince by an chance?” You smirked at Fili as he gasped remembering your conversation. “Yes, I am legolas son of Thranduil.” Your mouth gap open “it is nice to meet you, wow I have met three princes now. Totally awesome dude.” You smirked up to the princethat just nodded at you , continuing to search you receiving glares from Thorin ,Fili and kili.
You hoped he stayed away from your vagina, no one knew you kept a hidden knife there. You gasped when his hands reached your sides, you wore only a t shirt, and you were ticklish. He continued to in his hands down your sides, making you cry in laughter. Damn dude, he stopped immediately. “Sorry it tickles .” As the elf gave you a half smile, this made Fili bubble with anger that this elf was allowed to touch you. “why does a women travel with pigs?” He questioned you , you smirked . “Because I have no where else.”
You replied quickly, looking at your feet.”Why?” Damn this vampire bro didn’t quit. “Magic causes some shit , and poof I am in this strange world.”the prince was confused by this, but just nodded, he was going to ask his father about it.
He walked towards Fili , eyeing his flower crown, scoffing. “Oi princess I made that.” You spat at the elven prince, Kili laughed at your term, and Fili felt butterflies in this stomach. “You court this dwarf?” He laughs at you. You scoff angrily “hey blondie,first he’s a prince like you, plus I rather have a dwarf than a twig elven princess, If your dick is as thin as you. GOD. Is it even there.”
This caused all the dwarves at laugh at you , legolas face lit up in anger, he leaned down to your ear and whispered “I would love to prove you wrong, but I am afraid I would split you into two.” You shrugged in disgust ,” thanks for the offer but I’ll stick to the dwarf that doesn’t have to use a wooden dick.” You clutched onto Fili , who happily pulled you close to him. Before legolas ordered for you all tohave your hands binded.
Legolas has brought you all to the cells into Mirkwood. He had told his father there was a women along the pact of dwarves and that you should be stuck in with them too rot aswell.
You turned to Fili in the cell, “damn I’m glad I didn’t runaway with that ass.” Fili laughed , “me too.” He spoke sitting on the stone fall, gesturing for to sit too. “I can’t.” He looked at you confused. “Why not.” You didn’t amswer you just reached up the leg of your swimming trunks pulling a knife out carefully. He gasped at your action, you flung the case of the knife on the floor ,that protected your vagina from being spilt opened.
Luckily you had clearly the knife and case in boiling hot water , so you wouldn’t get an infection. “That w-was in your v-v..” you giggled at him sitting next to him, you yelp at the harsh contact with the floor.”yeah I know, it hurt.” You passed him the blade , he inspected it, he could only think hot damn.
“How did it even fit?” He questioned this blade was 9 inches long , two inches wide.
“That’s what she said. I don’t even know how it did.” He goes back to hand it back you shake your head “I’m not skilled with any sort of weapon, you keep it.” You smiled at him, he wrapped his arm around you pulling you close to him , embracing you on the cold floor. “Thank you and thank you for back there that meant a lot to me y/n.”
“Like I was going accept that pricks offer, he said he was gonna spilt me in half with his thick cock.” You laughed into filis chest, he burst out laughing with you stroking your hair. Before he could say anything more Bilbo had came to your rescue, you and Fili stood up swiftly and he grabbed your knife with him.
You clutched filis hand as Bilbo lead you into the cellar , and ushered you all to get into the barrels. Kili looked at the knife questioningly as did the rest of the company, “y/n” he spoke quickly. They all looked at you there wasn’t anywhere you could hide that knife. You shrugged “I hid it my vagina.” Bilbo gasp, yet Dwalin looked at You proud “good on you lassie!”
Bilbo was the next to speak “ yes this is a lovely conversation and all but we do not have time right now.” He spoke urgently. After that everyone had gotten into a barrel. Soon enough you were all dumped into the water, soaked , and being chased by elves. You spot legolas straight away “oh hey princess, MAYBE you should’ve searched my vagina next time for knifes.” You shouted towards him , pointing to the knife Fili held , in which he nodded at legolas, legolas gasped.
***
After the barrel ride, you had reached an bank to be threatened by Bard the bow man. He agreed to take you all to lake town, but smuggling you. It was suggested that you were to pretend to be his girlfriend because you couldn’t fit fully into a barrel. Fili wasn’t happy at all of course. Then all the dwarves and dildo had to climb up through the toilet , in which Fili asked you to keep his flower crown safe.
You stood in bards living room waiting for the dwarves , you were freezing from only wearing a t shirt and swimming trunks, bard had let you borrow his coat to hid your weird clothing. You had already given that back. You snapped out of your thoughts when the groans of dwarves entered your ear drums. You looked up to see Bilbo soaked , he was given a blanket by only of bards daughters. “Damn Bilbo you really are a dildo now , you are all lubed up all you gotta do is go up a vagina.” You smirked down at him he frowned at you muttering “you are worse than the dwarves” before walking off.
You looked up to spot Fili who was already walking towards you, once he reached you he gave you a large grin. You grabbed the crown from your pocket , placing it upon his head. He pressed a kiss to your cheek. You smile at him, lovingly. You felt a tug at your hand , you look down to see Bards youngest daughter Tilda smiling up at you. “Miss y/n?” She asks , “yes tilda.” You bend down a little to her level holding her hand, Fili watching in awe.
“ did you make that?” She questions pointing to the crown on filis head, you nod. “We don’t get many flowers here.” She spoke sadly before whispering into your ear so Fili not anyone else could hear “do you like that dwarf miss?” She giggled , as did you. “Yes I do.” She giggled again excitingly. “If yo u come back here one day would you bring me a crown?” She questioned again, smiling hopefully, you looked up Fili who already gently pulled the crown from his head leaning down to the child placing it upon her head. “You can have this,princess.” She giggled pulling to both into a hug ,”thank youuu.” She spoke happily.
You stood from the floor, “I’ll make you a new one in erebor. You are true prince.” Smiled just embracing him this time.he tighten the hug pulling you closer from your waist. “What did she ask you?” He asked smirking into your shoulder,”now that’s a secret prince.” You spoke pulling away to see Bilbo who was smirking and wiggling his eyebrows at you.
***
After the battle of the five armies , Thorin had offered for you stay in erebor , with him , Fili and kili. Since you had no home. Bilbo was staying in erebor for a week, you were given a room with clothes , and gowns that fit you. You were actually able to bathe, today you wore a green tunic and some pants, you had been sat in some greenery in erebor.
You began crafting another flower crown for Fili, once you had completed it , you had brushed the dirt from you. You started heading towards filis chambers gently grasping the crown in your hands. Once you had reached his door , you gently tapped your knuckles against the wood knocking a couple of times.
Soon the door was opened by a surprisingly dressed Fili, he looked like he had just woken up and rushed ready. Good for him. “What can I help you with y/n?” He yawned. You reached from behind your back to reveal the crown. “I told you. I would.” He smiled he allowed to place it upon his head. “thank you.” He spoke leaning towards you to press a kiss to your cheek. He blushed. After that you smiled and began to walk away, but his hand grasped your wrist. “Wait...” you turned to look at him.
“I-ive been meaning to tell you that...uh.” His face was beet red, he couldn’t hold your gaze,you held onto his hands. “ you can say anything to me Fili, unless it’s mean,because I will cry.” You smiled at the dwarf.”no ,no , it’s not mean. I just really like you not as a friend” your face blushed in shock , a prince liked you. “Damn bro I like you too.” You jumped to embrace him.
“Really?” He asked with a sparkle in his eye,”why do you think I made you them crowns and said I wanted a dwarven cock and then latched myself to you?” You smirked at Fili, lust filled eyes, he laughs lightly.
“Can I court you y/n l/n?” He asked cupping your cheek, you nodded in response. He brought his mouth to your ear, and whispered “may I kiss you?” You nodded nervously , you both leaned in , wrapping your arms around his neck and he pressed his soft lips to yours pecking them before pulling away. “Damn thanks for being my first kiss dude.”
“You are very welcome , now come in so I can braid your hair.” He led you in with his arm around your waist, shutting the door.
Bonus:
“Are you going to braid my pubes aswell?” You questioned the blond prince smirking.
“Only if you braid mine.”
“ mine are too short anyways.”
Extra bonus:
“Kili I call Bilbo , dildo Gaggins. Because a dildo is a fake dick that people use to masterbate with. And because he’s so short he is a whole dildo. And Gaggins is because he goes to thorin and gags.”
“Why does he gag around thorin?”
“Because he’s sucking him off.”
“O h.”

Glass Heart Pt 11
Tumblr media
Something had happened, meant to have a year alone across the screen of your laptop you read the email from your Grandfather that they were all coming home. Word had rippled out because on your way through the market you could hear people from various clans sharing that even they had been contacted by their own Elders up North coming down as well out of nowhere. None of the shelves on the baking aisle seemed to be stocked at all thanks to those who had bought up all they could to ready for the Berry Festival. The lonely bunch of bagged cookie mix drew your eye and even though it wouldn’t be as good as from scratch it would do for now. A pouch for brownies was added and your head turned to find a group of Dams, all speaking about the Festival. “Dating or not I always win Thorin’s dishes.”
With a nod you said, “I’m not sure how I’m supposed to answer that. But okay.”
Looking you over she said, “So don’t expect to be winning that date.”
With a nod you said, “Just don’t expect a second date if you do happen to have deeper pockets than me.”
She scoffed in your turn for more food she said, “I have deeper pockets, and one day he’s going to see what a catch I would be for his clan.”
“Maybe you should have made a move sooner then.”
“Just because you’ve had a couple film nights at his castle doesn’t mean you are in a clan recognized courtship.”
Glancing back at her you said, “No, but he did let me grab his beard.” Jaws dropped as you added, “Have a nice day.”
The miles of snow couldn’t block the news from spreading and by the time you got home again beginning to unload the groceries you lifted your phone, that once pinned to your shoulder had Thorin able to purr out playfully, “You told Miki I let you grab my beard?”
“That depends, are you upset or pleased?”
Lowly he chuckled, “I am very pleased you are bragging, however I am curious how that came up over cookies.”
“Well apparently she has been buying your treats to prove she’s a better fit for your clan than I am.”
That made him scoff, “Not true, at all. For teaching me the recipe Gran would have to approve, and my clan always tries to accommodate our alone time.”
Muffled calls for Thorin had you smirking to ask, “Did you pull away from your lesson to call me?”
“Maybe. I’ll try to sneak away tonight, maybe give you some more to brag about, Garfield.”
“Have fun Pookie.” You said hanging up as he did to finish putting food away and start on your meal while your room warmed up again thanks to the burning fire.
Fili and Kili however beat him to the punch and took to enjoying the snow on your land with you while their younger cousins used up all of theirs. Each day spending more time with you to tide over their impatience for when they might be able to play with their baby sisters. The girls who in your two dinners at the Durin home enjoyed being tucked in your arms afterwards taking hold of your hair and reaching up to grab at your ears.
.
Bustling crowds of townspeople passed from one end of the Festival to the other. Every stand and game section much like the fair before with mini rivaling chosen foods the town would vote on to settle which clan was the victor this year. From the moment you were out of your car those close to you took notice of Thorin in his sneak up to you draping his arms around your middle to plant a kiss onto your cheek. “There you are Garfield. Sorry, had to drop off my dish, now I am all yours.”
With a giggle you said, “Just let me get my barbeque pops.”
He smirked asking, “Barbeque pops?” Watching you dip back into the car to pull out your covered basket that once was in his view his mouth watered, “Please tell me those are your Adad’s meat pies.”
Smirking up at him you said, “Perhaps, just have to go drop them off to the raffle.”
“Next date night at yours we are having those.”
“Oh so now you’re inviting yourself over and planning the menu?” You teased luring him in to playfully plant a kiss on your lips and grumble at your poke to his side on a ticklish spot at his try to reach behind you and claim one of the pops in the basket. “No stealing, buy a ticket.”
Around your back he slung his arm to escort you to the stand where your goods would be dropped off and tagged while he paid for a raffle ticket he hoped to match your tag on the basket that had more curious Dwarves to buy tickets as well wondering what it was.
From there game stands and mini dances and songs from both children’s groups and adults played to traditional markers to pass the day until the big event at the end. Though patiently you waited with him draped behind you resting his head on yours luring smiles from his kin seeing the two of you so comfortably entangled. Behind the stand a Dam was winding a bracelet from colored string and beads, around your wrist she tied it with the second her sister had wound for Thorin. In exchange for them a trade was offered of a jar of your honey they would pick up in a few days beginning more of the townspeople requesting the same having missed the Blacklock honey.
In the middle of your outing over the speakers a roundup call of all men involved in the auction were called and right in view of Miki and her friends when you turned your head to look to Thorin his hand found your cheek and warmly his lips planted on yours in a loving kiss. “Blue bow with rams.” A second quick kiss was claimed and you were left alone sighing while you joined the other women aiming to bid on the desserts.
Off to the side of the dessert coated podium was another raised platform with seats with the men in them waiting to be ordered out to join their high bidders. Round tables sat waiting for those bidding surrounded by those looking on. With bear paddle in hand you settled in your chair watching Riki approaching the mic ready to start the show. Off the table behind him you could see the baskets and by your guess they would go in order of how the men were seated. To yourself you kept your plan post caught distant hushed conversation hours prior of the group of Dams planning on simply outbidding you on every basket you chose.
“Let’s get this started.” Smoothing his palms together he said, “Tarts, it would appear to be. Quite tasty tarts by the look of it, with perfect fruit bits scattered on top in some sugar. Starting at ten. Who will give me ten?”
The basket was accented in pink but Thorin and his cousins watched your paddle go up followed by more through the crowd upping each bid until you stopped catching Nori’s face seeing you were up against his intended quickly ending the game once your bid didn’t come after two from the group of vultures hoping to steal Thorin’s away.
Turo was next and for a surprising hundred for his he hurried to his best friend’s wife chuckling at their preplanned yearly agreement for her to buy her favorite dessert of his.
Two more Dwarves came next with a vulture down for a stunning 300 taking her out of the bidding, right before Bombur’s who drew as always the biggest haul at 3500. A few bids from you had one of the vultures down and Bifur took down another.
Leaving the next vulture you waited a couple baskets then got to bidding again once luring Thorin and Ferin up on the platform to murmur with Gloin and Dwalin on what you were up to as you successfully kept bidding Miki up and up on Bofur’s basket. Leaving him and the crowd, including the confused Durins, to pivot their heads between you two until you shook your head at 4250. Money in hand she laughed in your face earning only a smirk from you until she saw Bofur standing to collect his basket and bring it over. Just a moment she realized her friends were seated beside the baker of their baskets making her look to you and shake her head that she fell for your bluff bidding then turned to grin at Bofur, pleased at her chosen dessert she was left to over Thorin’s.
Frerin smirked leaning in to whisper, “She’s pinching purses.”
Thorin and Dwalin looked to the packed table across from yours and the latter chuckled out, “I think you’re right.”
One by one the others were claimed with your continued help on building bids to drift off in affordable ranges for those seeming to not be sold for much previous years. Until from the five women left you stood to hand over the cash to Oin, ignoring Thorin’s un-help-able grin at your snatching his basket for 1500 lost to you a moment when he turned to claim it before his trot over to show you to settle down beside you.
Holding his basket he smiled at you making you giggle and shake your head when you sat again at the confirming count of your cash before his move to ease his arm around your back in a scoot closer to your side. Lowly he murmured to you by your ear, “I know what you did.”
“I won your basket is what I did.”
Against your ear he whispered, “Purse pincher,”
Shaking your head you whispered back, “I would never-,” making him chuckle at your giggle to Dwalin’s cheer being claimed by Bilbo and getting to lift his little girl up again and kiss her cheek after her fussing wanting the trio to be together again.
Ferin was the final one and it seemed to be another all out inch from a brawl bidding war making you ask, “What did he put in the basket?”
To which Thorin replied, “Both have been aiming for dinners with him since moving to town last fall.”
“Ooh, I can see that.” He smirked at you playfully when you tapped a finger to his cheek blindly, “The scowl.”
Another selection of baskets were brought up and Riki grinned once Frerin smirked settling in beside his bidding Hobbit’s side glad it was the one he had a crush on over the one who liked to try and pinch him when possible. Up to the mic Riki walked with a grin, “Now for our clan raffle baskets. Kindly get out your tickets.”
Yours was obvious as it was shaped like a giant hive with bears walking and climbing around it and Thorin stole one more glance at the ticket resting in the hand of the arm resting on the table behind you and back to Riki confirming he had the number right.
“486!” Riki called out and turning his head Thorin caught Bofur’s slide back from a faked stretch swapping tickets making Thorin smirk at Bofur’s signing he wanted two of whatever you had made. Eyeing the ticket he lifted turning your head, “Ah! How fitting, to have your sweetheart’s basket.” Leaving the basket on his lap in your hold he stood and hurried up to the stage accepting the basket he carried back to you and opened making Bofur groan almost regrettably before sniffing the pair of savory pops he took hold of from Thorin who lowered the lid again and extended a hand to guide you off to his chosen picnic spot. Smirking all his way weaving through the crowds to guide you to something closer to privacy.
Between two trees a blanket sat waiting for you to relax upon. Tucking his legs around you he lounged against the pile of pillows propped against a large boulder easing your basket closer to his legs while you opened the lid on his giving the blackberry crumble a curious sniff. “Mhmm, smells good.”
“Gran made certain I got it right. Mmmm,” the latter he rumbled to himself removing the lid of your basket he pulled one of your pops out, “Thank you, for making these. They smell fantastic.”
“I made three batches, two did not survive to the basket,” making him chuckle, lowly his pleased hum came in tasting the first pop. “And that’s why.”
“Oh this is amazing,” he rumbled around his mouthful soon joined by more finishing the pop off setting the stick it was on beside him. After a few moments and you had taken a bite of one of the oh so gooey and perfect mug sized blackberry crumbles with the spoon inside the basket he said, “For a few moments there I did think you might end up with someone else’s basket. Seemed you wanted theirs more.”
Rolling your eyes you said, “If you mean by my bid amounts I overheard Miki and her group say how much they had boasting they could outbid me. Which, they could have. I only had 1500 cash.”
Thorin’s head tilted and you caught his eye as he said, “Jaqi, if you need-,”
You shook your head, “I have thousands till payday in the bank, that was all my cash.”
“If you do ever need cash-,”
“I know whose windows to toss stones at.” Making him chuckle then glance up to his family coming to join you smirking between glances at the baskets. Stealing one more pop Thorin offered the rest to share while even Frerin on his way to his picnic spot snuck over to claim a bite of your crumble then wink on his way back to his still smiling date.
It was a good thing the trade had gone as it had, in Bofur’s new basket sat stuffed mushrooms him and his brothers shared loving the deadly meal you could not have kissed Thorin had he eaten or even nibbled on one of them.
.
Room by room the barn was emptied back into the castle with your cousin’s crew helping you to settle it all back into place in your try to get it all ready for your family returning early. Vacuuming and dusting came next to perfect each room leaving the unpacking of the dishes left to each kitchen in the suites and main kitchen. Carefully unpacked and washed in being put up the castle seemed to come to life with so many memories flooding back to you. Mainly those of your father tat led to you unpacking his suite last. With loving care his bed was assembled and made up, pillows placed just how he had left them stroked with your palm remembering sharing them with him. Pictures around the bed were settled leaving his walls of books. Each one holding echoes of his voice reading them aloud placed right back in the precise order with the shelf of those you had written propped on the stands he made. Curled up on the foot of his bed you curled up for more than one night clinging to the bear from your room he had given you at your leaving you sprayed with some of his cologne left over from his bath supplies.
Early morning a distant doorbell had you sitting up inhaling sharply from your cocoon of blankets you fixed carrying your bear left in your room on the way to the door. Echoes through the house hurried you along until across the main hall you slowed seeing who had let themselves in, “Gramps.”
Turned to face you the burly thick bearded Dwarf turned fully accepting your tight hug when you had closed the gap between you hugging you tightly in return. “Hello little bear. Wanted to make sure you were up for us.”
You pulled back saying, “Welcome home.” Looking over his face seeing something was off you asked, “But, I thought you weren’t coming back for months. What’s wrong?”
“Well-,”
“Where is my Bear?!” The voice coming from behind your uncles, two from the set of triplets your father was a part of looked to you over the heads of their eldest sons who were just smiling your way. “You promised me my Bear would be here!”
Gently ushering you to the door your Grandfather walked with you as they parted leaving you to tears seeing your father stepping through who quickly crossed to you engulfing you in his tight hug closing his eyes to the tear dropping over his back to the clenching of fingers into the back of his shirt. Broken and terribly frail you muttered, “Adad-?!”
Behind his back when you managed to open your eyes again your great uncle stated, “We got a notice from the Northern Forces a number of our kin were found in a hidden prison camp. Many could barely remember their names, most of our time up North was aiding their recovery. Your videos helped, so very much.”
Another formerly assumed lost uncle came into view smiling and nodding to you in your smile his way trying to not look at his metal foot reflecting sunlight. Into your shoulder in the tightening of his grip your father said, “I knew only you could heal our home, my little Bear.”
Nestling your head against his eased his, whispering, “I hoped I’d find you here.”
Once finally let down you wiped his cheeks and he took hold of your hands unwilling to let go of contact with you just yet, “Full tour, little bear?”
With a nod you replied, “Sure.” Turning he released one hand to keep one arm behind your back with the other holding your hand in front of his belly. Beaming brightly at each room you showed off to your ecstatic clan taking in the castle slowly lighting from the rising sun that once you had shown him the renovated tower all joined you out to the back courtyard and brand new gardens. The perfect recreations leaving some to tears with pride at their restored clan lands while you caught faint echoes of whispers that major members of other clans had returned home as well with their Elders.
Soon you would find among them in the Durin clan were Fundin, father of Dwalin and Balin, as well as Thorin, Dis and Frerin’s father Thrain. Dain’s uncle as well had returned to the Iron Hills and while it was happy times for the returned relatives still some healing was left to do and in resettling those returned would be eased into all that had been missed. Namely the topics of courtships and unions with footage shared would come up. At the dinner table for you, though where the Durins were easily a welcome clan to marry into your father rightfully so would ensure that Thorin left no stone unturned when courting you.
Late night calls came with congratulations as your father showered prior to an agreed upon story time to hear the tales you had written for him he wished to hear again to know he hadn’t made them up surely ending in curling up together. From said calls at Thrain’s urging by morning in the group breakfast on the main floor a formal penned request to sit for a potato dish with your father came tugging a smirk across his lips. A mark that announced his wish to begin earning the right to court you formerly, and more importantly prove to him that Thorin would be the best life partner to bond the clans in matrimony.

The comforts of family
Also can be read on ao3
Bilbo felt like death warmed over.
He had never thought he would feel worse than he had felt when he caught that dreadful cold in lake town. Yet there he was, burning on a fever that came and went every thirty minutes.
He had only wanted a bit of fresh air damnit!
It was not his fault he had gotten distracted and stayed there for two hours instead of a few minutes. He had been watching the ravens fly and Kroäk (grandson of Roäc, and one of the few crows that spoke westorn) had brought him a hellebore to cheer him up which had lead to Bilbo explaining to him what sort of flowers were poisonous and how to identify them.
His little break had lead to pandemonium, the whole mountain had been looking for him when he didn't turn out for dinner.
Bilbo hadn't realised that he had been gone that long until he had been informed by a young guard that everyone had been looking for him for more than an hour.
Bugger it all.
It had taken a few more hours to calm everyone down, and by then Bilbo had been starving and already feeling the consequences of his outing, in the chilling of his face and even his feet were a bit cold; proof that he had been outside more than he should have.
It wasn't surprising he woke up sick the next day.
That didn't mean he was happy about it. Being sick in Lake Town had been horrible enough but now that he was the settled in Erebor it seemed worse, he as the consort had responsibilities that he just couldn't left unattended.
And to make matters worse, if he remembered correctly, he had a meeting with one of the guilds that day.
“Thorin I cannot simply miss that meeting just because I'm a bit sick” Bilbo tried to explain. Thorin hadn't left his side since he had realised Bilbo was not feeling his best, and had decided both were taking the day off so he could take care of Bilbo.
“A bit sick? You must be jesting, you can barely stand let alone lead a guild meeting; I will not put your health at risk. They can wait a day or two.”
Oh yes, it didn't help that apparently dwarfs rarely got sick and the news of Bilbo’s sudden sickness had been received with alarm.
Bilbo would consider himself lucky if the news hadn't been spread all around the mountain.
It was unlikely, but a hobbit could hope.
He was proved right, half an hour later, when his fever was finally subsiding, that all the company barged into his room carring all sorts of things.
“What in Yavanna's sake is that?!” asked Bilbo, pointing at the chest Bifur and Dori were carrying.
“Oh that is a few of the gifts the dwarfs have left for you to show their wishes for an early recovery.”
“Oh my!”
Honestly, dwarfs were so dramatic sometimes.
“You know how much the dwarfs love the royal consort Bilbo.” added cheekily Kili, that as soon as he had entered he threw himself in the bed with Bilbo; Fili following close behind.
“Everyone got really worried when they heard the news. We know you are not as breakable as you look laddie but for some of the dwarfs, you are the first hobbit they have seen in their lives.” said Balin, patting Bilbo’s leg and sitting at the end of the bed.
Bilbo huffed. It came as a pleasant surprise when the dwarfs returning to Erebor accepted him so readily. The ballads and stories the company spread about him might have also helped; despite that, the dwarfs often thought him to be a fragile little thing.
The things he had to put up with.
If only his father could see him now, he would be very proud.
Bilbo hadn’t trotted any dwarf so far, but Erü, hadn't be tempted...
Bombur interrupted his musings, shoving a tray full of food into Bilbo’s lap
“I hope you are hungry! I have brought you a tea Oín said was good for the throat and made a few of your recipes.”
Bilbo wasn't really hungry but he knew the warm food would speed up his recovery; besides Bombur's food was the best.
“Thank you Bombur, I really appreciate it.”
Bilbo really did, everyone was always so attentive with him; of course sometimes it was a bit overwhelming but it never failed to make him feel welcome and cherished; something he hadn't felt in the Shire since his parents death.
“Well lad, we just wanted to see how you were doing. We should go now, you need rest and Oín will have our hide if we make you worse.” said Dwalin from where he had his back against the door.
“You’re right I will!” threatened Oín.
At that the dwarfs grumbled under their breath but made their way to the door nonetheless. Bifur approached Bilbo's bed and placed a hellebore flower on top of his bedside table.
“The crows said you were picking flowers with them, this is the only one I could find. Get better soon, aye?”
“Thank you Bifur.” Bilbo picked the flower, beaming at Bifur
Bifur smiled and patted Bilbo's head before heading for the door.
Practically all the khuzdul he knew was thanks to Bifur. As soon as he had been crowned consort and allowed to learn their secret language Bifur had sought him and made his mission to teach him as best as he could. After a bit of prodding from Bilbo, Bifur admitted he had been feeling left out with him not being able to communicate with Bilbo properly when the rest could. Sure Bilbo had picked up enough Iglishmêk to have a short conversation, but it was not the same.
The Bilbo that they met in Bag End would have never thought Bifur to be such a sensitive and caring soul.
Thank Yavanna he was no longer that hobbit.
Bifur had lived through a lot and came out as a better dwarf. He was strong, yet so very sweet sometimes, Bilbo was lucky to have him as his friend.
“Thank you for everything.” said Thorin before everyone left, with the exception of Kíli and Fíli that had laid down snuggly at Bilbo's side.
“It's alright laddie, we will take of everything until our consort feels better. But maybe you would want to make Dís something; she's being the one that's being taking most of your duties while I take Bilbo's.” explained Balin, winking at them.
When everyone was finally out Thorin got up from where he was sitting on a chair close to their bed, and walked to Bilbo.
“Ghivashel, do you want me to prepare you a bath?”
“Oh, yes please, I feel like I'm carrying a week’s worth of sweat.” Bilbo felt Kíli’s muffled snicker at his words.
“Boys, can you help me?” Asked Thorin, walking to the bathroom.
“Aye!” replied at the same time, jumping from the bed and racing to the bathroom, pushing each other, with Thorin at their heels chuckling under his breath.
The sight warmed Bilbo's heart.
The three of them were so very different when it was just them. So much free, free of the burdens of the crown.
And his husband; his dwarf could so silly sometimes!
Like the time Bilbo planned a picnic for his birthday. Bilbo had been teaching Thorin how to make a flower crown when Thorin had accidentally brushed against the only part of his foot that was ticklish; both of them had startled at Bilbo’s giggle, next thing he knew he was lying on the ground with Thorin on top of him, trying to find all the places Bilbo was ticklish, and by Yavanna he found them all.
By the end of it Bilbo was a sorry mess, red faced with tears running down his face from all the laughter.
Something that didn't seem to bother Thorin since the next thing he had done was lean for a kiss, sadly for him Bilbo had other plans.
It was his turn to take revenge and it turned out Thorin was very ticklish.
Bilbo hadn't had that much fun since he was fauntling, but now everyday was filled with laughter and love.
He came back from his memories at the sound of steps.
“Uncle Bilbo! We have finished!” said Kíli
“Do you need help getting to the bathroom?” asked Fíli
“If you could? My entire body feels like jelly.” groaned Bilbo, pushing himself out of the bed with trembling hands.
“Here, let me.” said Fíli, holding most of Bilbo's weight by wrapping his arm around Bilbo's waist.
“Thank you, my boy.”
A soft fruity smell welcomed them when they reached the bathing chambers.
Thorin was there, mixing a few of Bilbo's favourite oils, it smelt magnificent and Bilbo could already feel relaxing.
Fili, helped him sit on a chair Kili had brought for him to sit down, had he been any better he might have felt a little ashamed of needing that much help, but he was finally starting to feel a little more like the healthy and happy hobbit that he usually was and less than the sweaty, smelly mess he has being this past two days.
Honestly, not letting him take a bath before, saying “it might make him worse” as if, a bath was exactly what he needed and now that he was finally going to get it he was gonna milk it for all it's worth.
His boys help him undress and when he was ready, Thorin walked to him.
“Ready kurdel?”
Bilbo hummed at him and sighed softly when Thorin lifted him up. The way Thorin could so easily lift him always made Bilbo a bit hot under the collar. A weakness that Thorin knew very well of.
A shudder crossed his body as soon as his skin made contact with the hot water. It felt absolutely fantastic, and the tub was big enough to fit the entire royal family so Bilbo was very comfortable.
He closed his eyes and just let all his worries fly away, thrusting his husband and nephews to watch over him if he ended up falling asleep.
True to his expectations, after a few moments of quietness he felt a couple of calloused hand in his hair, spreading a bit of cleansing oil into it.
Bilbo instantly recognised Thorin's hands, they always rubbed so lovely into his scalp, turning him into absolute jelly; it wasn't until Thorin that he finally understood how pleasurable it could be to play with one's hair.
Fili and Kili made themselves known when they lifted Bilbo's arms and softly started washing them, to then continue with the rest of his body.
This continued for various minutes and Bilbo was quite sure he fell asleep at some point, waking up when he felt two pair of hands washing his foot hair; the top of his foot was one of the most ticklish parts of his body, and despite the boys being so gentle he still startled a bit.
“Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up but I thought you might wanna have you feet clean. I'm almost done.” said Kíli.
Bilbo chuckled softly. “It's alright and you are very right, I like my feet clean as the rest of my body.” Bilbo paused for a moment, feeling more lucid and awake. “I'm very grateful for all you have been doing for me since I got sick, you are always so good to me.”
“You could always make us some cookies, once you are feeling better.” said Fíli, giving him what he probably thought to be an innocent smile.
Bilbo burst out laughing. “I will make sure to have some for you when I'm healthy again.”
The young dwarfs instantly cheered, they had favored Bilbo's chocolate cookies since he made them for Dwalin’s birthday.
“If you are feeling so inclined to offer gifts I wouldn't  mind a few kisses, since this past days they have unjustifiably denied to me.” said Thorin tilting Bilbo’s head back until they meet eyes
Bilbo rolled his eyes, not this again.
“Unjustifiably he says.” muttered Bilbo to himself, before looking at Thorin and saying “I have already told you is because I don't want you to catch a cold too.”
“And I have told you that won't happen, we dwarfs are much more resilient to sickness. A few kisses won't hurt.”
Thorin tilted down his head so very slowly; his hair falling like a curtain around Bilbo, the tips getting wet as they touched the water.
Bilbo's breath faltered for a second, and his eyelashes fluttered against his checks as he closed his eyes, feeling Thorin’s sultry lips on top of his own, with his scratchy beard brushing against Bilbo's bare cheeks.
The things that beard did to Bilbo.
But when he felt Thorin trying to deepen the kiss, Bilbo reacted, that won't do.
Thorin let out a frustrated groan when Bilbo cut off the kiss and got free from his grasp.
“Why?” Thorin asked with a frown and a slightly protruding lips, that Bilbo was positive were the beginning of a pout, on his face.
Bilbo felt his mouth quirk in a smile and he could hear Fíli and Kíli were trying to muffle their giggles.
“Oh love, don't pout-”
“I'm not pouting.” Thorin interrupted, pressing his lips together and crossing his arms as if daring Bilbo to say otherwise.
Fíli and Kíli couldn't hold it anymore and bursted out laughing, receiving a glare from a their brooding uncle.
“I know you said that dwarfs are not prone to sickness but I'm not risking it, you are a nightmare when sick and we can't afford to be sick one after the other.” Bilbo took one of Thorin's hands and brought it to his lips, giving it a kiss. Thorin cupped his check with that same hand and Bilbo couldn't resist leaning into it. “It will be for a couple of days more at most, I'm already feeling much better.”
Thorin sighed. “Fine.”
“You are always so sweet sometimes it gets nauseating.” said Kíli making a face to then break in sneakers.
Fíli snorted. “As if you are not the same with Tauriel.”
“We just got married, that's to be expected! Thorin and Bilbo had been married for five years.”
“You got married four months ago!” Fíli directed his judging eyes to Bilbo and Thorin. “But Kee is right, you behave like newly weds more often than not.”
“Is not my fault our love is undying.” replied Thorin, plainly, making their nephews groan.
“I preferred the nervous, awkward mess you were when you were trying to court Bilbo, it was less embarrassing.”
Thorin chortled at that before getting up from his position at the side of the tub.
He picked up Bilbo's bathrobe. “Ready to go out?”
“I think it might be time, yes, I don't fancy getting all pruney.”
“Alright then.” said Thorin, passing the bathrobe to Kíli. He then, bend over to pick Bilbo up from the tub, drenching his clothes farther in the process that were already sodden from his kneeling and sitting beside the bath.
Thorin help him stand and Kíli helped him with putting his robe on.
Feeling slightly less weak, Bilbo took Thorin’s hand and slowly padded back to their chambers, with Fíli and Kíli staying behind to clean the bath.
They made to a chair, where Bilbo sat and started drying himself with his robe while Thorin changed the sheets and put fresh ones.
Bilbo put on his most comfortable nightgown, a gift from Dor made by himself, it was made from a very soft fabric and had acorns sewn all over it.
When everyone was finished the four of them climbed on top of the bed. Fili had already picked up the brushes and combs on his way.
“You take the hair, I will take the feet.”
“I thought I was doing your hair?” asked Bilbo confused, he always did Thorin’s hair.
“Not today amrâlimê, this time we are taking care of you.”
“But you have been doing that all day, and all the days since I caught that cold.”
“Pampering has never killed anyone uncle Bilbo, enjoy it while you can, when you get better you will have tons of work to worry about.” said Fíli sitting behind him.
After a few moments Bilbo gave up.
“Fine.”
His dwarfs started humming as they began working.
Thorin had learned pretty early how to properly groom his hair foot hair. For hobbits that was reserved for partners and children, still, Bilbo taught Thorin how to do it even before they had began courting; it was, as soon as he made that decision, that he realised he was not going back to the Shire.
Fíli carded his fingers through his hair to then proceed to comb it all the way back. Meanwhile Thorin was softly brushing his foot hair, exactly how Bilbo had taught him.
At some point, between the time Kíli started braiding his hair and Thorin thought it was good idea to give him a foot massage, Bilbo fell asleep feeling completely relaxed and happy.
It was the best he had slept in a long time.
He woke up to the feeling of fingers in his face, fingers that were slowly tracing his features as if trying to memorize them.
Bilbo opened his eyes and the first thing he saw was Thorin's smiling face, and Bilbo couldn't help but do the same.
“Where are the boys?” asked Bilbo in a raspy voice, still heavy from sleep.
“They have gone to help their mother, but I have brought you food if you are hungry. You fell asleep before eating any of the food Bombur brought.”
As if in answer Bilbo's stomach let a loud growl.
Thorin chucked “I'm going to take that as a yes.”
Bilbo was really a blessed hobbit, he had such a loving family and so much more than he could have ever hope to have.
He softly touched his belly and thought to himself that maybe, just maybe it was time to make the family bigger.
Khuzdul words:
- Ghivashel: treasure of all treasures. -Kurdel: heart of all hearts. -Amrâlimê: my love.

The Unexpected Scout (The Hobbit OC Story)

Chapter 04 - Cuddles, confusion, and little secrets
It was warm. Warm and cozy. Just as if a big, cuddly blanket was spread over Gwen’s body. She smiled in her sleep and nestled down in the source of heat and comfortableness. Soft breaths left her lips along with a content sigh.
If it would be possible, she would love to have this moment to last forever. It had been a while since she had such a good spot to rest, even though she was lying on the floor instead of a bed. Nevertheless, it felt so snugly.
Something was wrapped around her tightly, yet cushily. A pleasant odor of nature, masculinity, and tobacco tickled her nose and her ears caught the sound of a steady beating rhythm, resonating in her head and calming her mind.
Gwen took a deep breath and a sigh escaped her once again as she snuggled her head against the source of her ease, her hands gripping onto it with very little strength to make sure that it wouldn’t go anywhere.
A low chuckle sounded as she did that and something suddenly started tracing circles on her back smoothly. The young woman knitted her brows for a second. Then she slowly opened her eyes.
She was still half asleep so everything appeared to be a little blurry, but she was able to identify clothes in front of her, covering a strong, muscular chest. Blinking a few times in order to get a clearer vision, she looked up.
As she did that, something metallic touched her nose, making her jerk slightly in surprise. She realized it was a little bead attached to a thin braid of a blond beard that ended right above the upper lip. Her gaze wandered upwards even further until she met the water colored eyes of Fili, who showed her a warm smile.
“Good morning, buttercup. Did you sleep well?”, he purred and stroked her back with his fingers once again. A warm shiver went down Gwen’s body. Now she noticed that she was enveloped in his strong arms, holding her close to his chest, even though he was smaller than her. Therefore she could feel his knees around the height of her stomach.
But there was something else she was sensing in that area. Glancing down, she saw another pair of arms wrapped around her hips from behind.
Taking a closer look, she spotted the head of the younger dwarf prince Kili huddled against her lumbar. His eyes were still closed and he snored softly. But once in a while, he squeezed her gently and muttered something under his breath.
Entwined around his neck was her fluffy wolf tail. It looked like he was wearing a poofy, white scarf and he enjoyed the extra heater very much since his lips were curled up the whole time and he was completely snuggled up to it – not accepting anything to come between him and this miraculous feeling of softness.
Now Gwen remembered. Yesterday she had arrived at the home of Bilbo Baggins to finally meet the company of dwarves and to join them on their quest to take back Erebor. And then Fili and Kili had taken her with them into one of the rooms of the house to retire for the night.
She couldn’t recall all the details, but she was definitely sure that they hadn’t fallen asleep like this. Every one of them had had their own sleeping berth on the floor on separated bedrolls. They maybe had placed them right next to each other – Gwen in the middle of them of course – but they hadn’t been this close as they were now. But she really didn’t mind it.
Tiredly she rubbed her eyes and yawned before she answered the older prince in front of her: “Yeah. To be honest, it was the best sleep I’ve had in a long time.” She gave him a dozy smile and ran her fingers tenderly over his chest, feeling the well-built torso underneath his clothes.
“I’m pretty sure that it was due to a wonderful pillow and a fantastic blanket, which were gifted to me in my sleep.” Fili shuddered at her actions and words. He felt the heat spreading all over him, turning his cheeks red.
Taking deep breaths in order to contain his exhilarated mind and to oppress his hands to do something he was surely going to regret later, her scent grazed his nose. She smelled like a flower meadow, so sweet, free, and assuasive. And she was so soft-skinned, the total opposite of a female dwarf – leaving out for now that she was taller as well.
Continuing to caress her back with his callused fingers, the dwarf heard the wolfish woman sighing pleased. Looked like she was enjoying this treatment really much. It made his lips curl up and he proceeded with his actions.
His other hand, that wasn’t busy, started to wander upwards on her back until it reached the nape of her neck. There he began scratching her tenderly, letting his nails carefully dance over her skin. That made the tingly sensation only stronger.
Gwen gasped and shivered under Fili’s touch. This dwarf surely had experienced hands. If her tail wouldn’t be wrapped around his younger brother’s throat, she would certainly fawn like crazy. Goosebumps spread over her body while she relished the feeling of his digits on her body.
He stared at her two bright rubies, which looked right back as his blue topaz ones. A warm-hearted smile was on his lips as he observed her reactions to his loving treatment. He was taking as much pleasure in this as she was.
No one said a word, just exchanging looks. But after a while, Gwen patted Fili’s chest, signaling him to stop his actions – much to his disapproval – and said: “I think it’s better for us to get up now. The others are already up as well and preparing for our departure.”
She smiled and glanced down at the still sleeping Kili. There was a temptation inside of her to stroke his head, combing her fingers through these dark locks. But she dropped it.
She knew about the fact that dwarves fancied their thick, long hair. Touching them with intent was limited to their family and beloved only. It was better to avoid a culture clash.
So she just decided to let the tip of her tail caressing his stubbled check, hoping that it would eventually wake him up. But it didn’t. Instead, his grin got even bigger as a low humming left him, and he nuzzled even deeper into the fur, his eyes remaining shut.
Fili knitted his brows in confusion. How was Gwen supposed to know what the others were doing? The three were alone in this room and he hadn’t seen nor heard anyone. As she turned her attention back to him, giggling about the adorable way his younger brother acted at her attempts to wake him, she noticed his expression.
Knowing what he must be thinking, she rolled her eyes with another soft sound leaving her lips. Then she pointed at her wolf ears. “Forgotten already? There is a reason why I have these.” Her ears twitched at her statement to point that out.
Now Fili remembered. He really had completely forgotten about that. Both started to laugh, Kili’s deep snores sounding from below. Hearing that, it was impossible for Fili and Gwen to keep the joyful noises down.
Both looked at him and giggled as she started to tease his nose with her tail, causing him to frown for a moment and making some weird expressions in order to get rid the ticklish feeling against his organ of smell. It made the sounds of levity even louder.
“What is going on here?”, a sudden gruff, baritone voice rang out from the doorway, making Fili and Gwen flinch. The two lifted their heads to look up, only to meet the reprobative face of a certain grumpy dwarf with black hair and azure eyes.
His arms were crossed in front of his chest and he glared down at them. He was clearly not amused about the way he had discovered the three all tangled up together in some sort of way.
“What are you doing? Stop fooling around!”, he growled, his evil eye burning holes into them. Fili cringed at his uncle’s bad mood, unconsciously tightening his grip around Gwen as if she would be able to offer him protection by doing this. But that only infuriated Thorin even more.
Then suddenly, Kili groaned and blinked a few times. The loud voice of his uncle must have woken him up. He opened his mouth wide and let out a big, hearty yawn before he raised his head a little. Rubbing his sleepy eyes, he bellyached about the ruckus that was disturbing his peace and quiet.
He nestled down in Gwen’s tail, that was still wrapped around his neck, feeling its softness and couldn’t hold back an affectionate smile. Of course, that wasn’t really good for Thorin’s fretfulness.
The king was already shaking with rage. Pure anger glinted in his eyes. He shouted a few Khuzdul words, loud enough that it echoed through the whole house. His nephews jerked and sprung to their feet instantly before they escaped from the room as quick as possible.
Gwen looked after them in silence. She hadn’t been able to understand a single word, but judging from the reactions of the two princes it must have been something really scary.
Sighing, she sat up and stretched herself with pleasure, loosening her muscles a little. While she was doing that, she caught Thorin staring at her. “What?”, she asked and gave him an inquiring look, not stopping with her stretching exercise. The dwarf just snorted as his eyes lay on her female form.
That didn’t really answer her question, but Gwen left it at that. Sighing contentedly when her body felt more relaxed after the stretching, she arose from her bedroll. A small yawn left her and she also wanted to make her way outside of the room to get ready to leave Bag End.
But as soon as she passed Thorin, who had stayed perfectly still on his spot, his big hand took hold of her arm, forcing her to stop her tracks right beside him. Bewildered she looked down at him, his azures burning into her rubies.
“Don’t get too close to Fili and Kili!”, he growled, his gaze dark and serious. “These two are already full of mischief. They don’t need someone to make it even worse. If they get in trouble because of you, I will make you pay for it! Do you understand?”
He tightened his grip a little while he glared daggers at her to make his point clear. It was a warning – maybe even a threat. Dis was counting on him to keep her sons unharmed. Thorin had promised her that over a thousand times until he had finally be allowed to take them with him.
And he intended to honor the pledge. Even if it meant that he had to be mean to a member of his company – though he still didn’t want to admit that Gwen was one.
The young woman quirked an eyebrow at his words. What was this dwarf’s problem? Why was it bad for her to get along with his nephews? Wouldn’t it become handy in battle when everyone was looking out for each other? She didn’t get why she should keep her distance from them. What could her presence possibly cause?
“I’m afraid I don’t quite understand your worry, Your Highness. Your nephews are old enough to make their own decisions with who they want to be friends with.”, she said, looking deep into his ocean pupils.
“And in case if you might have forgotten, I don’t have any bad intentions – neither for your quest and especially not for you or your friends. I’m merely here to help out.” Shaking off his hand on her arm, Gwen continued her way to leave the room. But before she exited, she peered over her shoulder for one last time.
“I signed the contract and gave you my word to assist you in any possible way. It maybe doesn’t mean much to you, but that is all I’m able to offer you. Doubt me if you must, but it won’t change the fact that you are my leader now. And I will follow and serve you until I fulfilled my promise to you. Whenever you like it or not, you are stuck with me now.” She smiled at him before she finally left him by himself.
Speechless the king looked after her. That had caught him off guard. She surely was something. Every other woman would be intimidated – possibly scared even. But she wasn’t a bit. He hadn’t expected such a calm and collected reaction on her part. And her word choice. So formal and soothing.
Only now Thorin realized that the anger he had felt before, because of his discovery of his nephews clinging to her as toddlers would to their beloved mother, had vanished into thin air when he had listened to the suave sound of her voice and seeing the soft expression on her face.
What was with her? Why was she able to deal with his rudeness so easily and even to make it fade away by doing nothing but looking and talking gently? How did she manage to stay so composed?
Even Balin was annoyed by the king’s grumpiness from time to time, and they knew each other for a long time already – not even mentioning Dwalin since he didn’t want to put up with him at times like these anyway.
Dumbfounded Thorin still stared at the place where he had seen Gwen disappear to get herself ready for the journey. Pure chaos was in his mind. He didn’t know what to think about all of this anymore. Should he be enraged, annoyed, frustrated, or should he just leave it at that?
There was a voice at the very back of his head, which was suggesting him to find his answers by keeping Gwen around and getting to know her better. Thorin shook his head at this thought.
Why should he bother about something like that? What could he possibly gain from it? Erebor was his desire. It was the reason why everyone was here in the first place. He didn’t have time to befriend with an outsider.
The king was so lost in thoughts that he didn’t notice Balin coming over to him, not till he felt a hand on his shoulder, making him flinch in surprise. But as soon as he saw the face of the older dwarf in front of him, he heaved a sigh of relief and relaxed his tense muscles again.
“Are you alright, laddie? You have been spaced out for a while.”, the adviser asked him, showing his concern. It was untypical for Thorin to let his mind wander off like that and not being on guard for once.
The addressed one just nodded and answered: “Aye. Just thought today’s route through.” He hoped that it was credible enough for Balin to not inquire even further. Not for the life of him would he tell him the truth why he had been brooding. It was far too shameful for him.
Clearing his throat, Thorin passed Balin and exited the room to check on the rest of the company. It was his way to escape the worried look on the old dwarf’s face. Something was off with the king, Balin could feel that.
They had already discussed the path several times yesterday evening before they had gone to bed. There was no need for Thorin to think about it again now.
Not convinced one bit by this excuse, Balin looked after Thorin, who was now busy urging the others to get their stuff done and not to forget anything. Seemed normal so far. But then Balin spotted something.
Gwen came into view, helping everyone to carry their things outside of the house while exchanging small talk. Thorin immediately stopped what he was doing and turned his head into her direction, keeping a weather eye on her.
Seeing that, Balin chuckled. Now he understood and was certain that this quest was going to be an adventurous one – especially for the king.

“If we keep this pace up we should reach the next village by the end of the third day.”, Gandalf said as he rode in front of the cavalcade through the woods, Thorin following right behind him. He grunted in approval, his eyes concentrated on the path ahead of them.
The wizard turned his head to look at the mounted queue behind him. Gwen, who rode directly behind the dwarf king, noticed the old man’s eyes focusing on the space between the trees the company had already passed.
He was doing it occasionally, but more and more often the farther they all moved away from the Shire and she could already guess the reason why.
It was incredible how much he was positive about a certain hobbit soon chasing after them – or at least he hoped for it. Well, whenever the halfling will decide to show up or not, Gwen was glad that they all were on their way to the eastern region of Middle-Earth.
She had never really traveled together with other people before, so she was even more excited about this whole venture. It was nice for a change.
This group of dwarves was fun to be around, despite their rowdy and chaotic behavior and a specific moody king, who proceeded to stubbornly deny her membership of this quest. With this company, the young woman was sure that their trip won’t be a boring one.
The warm rays of the rising sun, which shone through the canopy of leaves, felt warm on her skin and a gentle morning breeze let a few of her strands of hair, that she wasn’t able to braid because they were too short, flutter lightly.
It tickled, causing her to chuckle, and she combed her fingers through it. Her actions didn’t go unnoticed. There was a pair of aqua blue eyes of a certain blond Durin prince fixated on her, not willing to avert his gaze. He watched her every movement.
Since she rode on a horse just like the currently restless wizard and also in the front with him and the grumpy leader, the young dwarf had a perfect view of what she was doing.
He admired how the golden light of the morning sun glistened on her hair as she ran her slender fingers over her scalp and tousled it a little to prevent it from becoming all messy. It was a simple act of her, but it was still fascinating beyond belief.
He knew how silky it felt. When the two had lain together with his brother in the hobbit’s house, holding onto each other for snugness, Fili had woken up first.
The moment he had noticed Gwen’s body cuddled up against him and his own arms been wrapped around her to keep her right there, it had been a surprise – a really pleasant one.
He hadn’t been able to keep himself from smiling, especially when he had seen how Kili had clung to her form as well, only from behind and in the lower region.
Fili had gazed at the wolfish woman’s sleeping face that had been nestled to his chest. It had looked so peaceful and happy as if she had been having a really good dream while soft breaths had left her.
His heart had warmed because of that and it had also made his stomach feel all tingly as if thousands of small, gracile creatures had been dancing inside of it, filling him with delight. He hadn’t been sure what this feeling had been, but he had known that it had been making him joyous.
Then his attention had shifted to her long single braid that had dangled over the side of her neck. He had never seen someone with such bright hair like hers. It had been unfamiliar to him – it still was – and he had wondered if it really was its natural color.
Without thinking his hand had suddenly moved on its own and he had only noticed it until it had been too late. All of sudden he had been touching her braid, carefully sliding it through his palm and feeling its softness.
He had nearly jumped out of his skin when he had realized what he had been doing. Letting your fingers coming in contact with someone else’s hair willfully, and feeling it without permission and not being in a relationship was a no-no for his kin. Above all, he and she weren’t related as well – praise Mahal for that.
Fili knew that it was forbidden. Balin, his mother, and uncle had told him that over and over again after he had come of age. But for some reason, he hadn’t been able to stop his actions. His hand hadn’t been able to settle down, tracing with his fingertip over the good braiding work again and again.
It had been intoxicating. This sensation of smoothness against his callused digits, he had liked it. Only Gwen’s sudden stirring and nuzzling against his chest had been able to make him snap out of his inebriety and finally leaving her hair alone to go back to embrace her before she had woken up.
Fili now looked at his fingertips when he sensed them getting tingling. He rubbed them together as he got the urge to feel this softness for once more.
Oh, what would he give to touch this snowy hair one more time, untangling the long braid and wrapping some of the loose strands around his index finger.
How much he desired to sniff on it, letting the wonderful scent of it tickle his nasal cavity once again. What was the actual length of it anyway? And would she like him to braid it for her anew? Fili had to know!
Only the thought about it was sending shivers down his spine. He clenched at the reins of his pony as the craving inside of him got stronger. But as fast as his excitement had come as fast popped up his realization of how inappropriate all of that was.
Gnashing his teeth, he tried his best to nip it in the bud. These thoughts were wrong. So absolutely wrong! But at the same time, it also felt so right to him.
Fili’s eyes traveled back to Gwen, who was in a conversation with Gandalf and Thorin right now. The young Durin wasn’t able to hear one single word, but he noticed the woman laughing together with the wizard while the king just rolled his eyes at them.
What was going on there in the front? What were they talking about? Damn his uncle for making him ride so far in the back. He also wanted to join in and have a word with Gwen as well.
“Hey, brother. Are you okay?”, Kili suddenly called him, who rode right beside him. He had sensed his older brother’s sudden uptightness and it worried him. Taken by surprise because of Kili’s voice Fili flinched and spun his head towards him. “Hm? O-oh. Yeah, yeah. Everything’s fine. Why do you ask?”
“Why? I was talking to you the whole time but you didn’t respond to any of my words, not even a nod of acknowledgment. You ignored me and kept looking straight ahead.”, Kili grouched and pouted at the older one.
Feeling sorry for that Fili looked at his brother and scratched his nose. “Sorry about that. I didn’t mean to tune you out. There’s just something on my mind that got me thinking.”
A spark of curiosity instantly flashed in Kili’s eyes as he heard that. “Oh? What kind of something? Tell me, tell me.”, he demanded with a big grin on his face and leaned a little closer so he wouldn’t be able to miss anything.
Fili blushed and shook his head. He didn’t want to tell him. In fact, he couldn’t talk to anyone about that. His cold shoulder caused Kili to whine. “Come on, spit it out! I want to know! Don’t be so mean. I’m your brother.”
He started to pull on the sleeve of Fili’s tunic, being on the edge to know what had gotten him so distracted. But the blond one refused to give in. He cleared his throat and just stated: “You wouldn’t understand.”
With that, he set spurs to his pony to put some distance between him and his inquisitive brother, who whinged about that, not willing to let up. He was a dwarf after all, and they were well-known to be stubborn.
But unfortunately for him, Fili was one as well, so there was no way that he would open his mouth. These memories and thoughts belonged to him and him alone. They weren’t meant for sharing, especially not for his saucy little brother.
It was his little secret. But maybe one day he wouldn’t mind sharing it.
