ok my brain is still so full from today's session so I'm going to be blorpo posting georg here for a second but. man I have been SO invested in lizzie and joel's arcs this season (both individually and how they intersect, and also the mounders' WHOLE dynamic is so fascinating to me through the lens of joel main) and I am consequentially pulling SO hard for a joel win this season. there's SO MUCH there to poke and prod at. and. and he said he'd win it for his wife guys.................

Thinking about how I was conned into watching that Love In The Air BL because I was told it was about street racing and it actually being so unbelievably inaccurate it made me want to tear my hair out. Like please buy better leathers. Also please wear them those are liter bikes your business attire won't help you when you crash. Also no open face helmets. Also you are not racing around that track you are cruising and you can't take that corner with only 10° lean angle. And that's not a family owned garage that's LIBERTY WALK THAILAND. It's so bad like not an ounce of research was put into it.

I've decided to award myself at work when I finish a task by mercilessly bashing my boss on the Internet (It might seem that I don't like my boss, which I assure you, is not true. I do... Me complaining about him on the Internet in the long run will be beneficial to him lol)

nothing will ever make me more frustrated than the way junji ito’s work is adapted into anime. it’s actually deeply upsetting to me.
junji ito’s work is so absurd and genuinely bone-chilling. his artwork is incredible and the way he uses human emotion and expression as a weapon makes every conversation and emotional display he despicts feel off (pos). it’s incredibly disturbing. reading it feels a little bit like stepping into an alternate universe in which displays of normal human emotion (lor lack thereof) often foretell bad outcomes. the horror aspect of is only heightened by the comedy aspect that comes from the absurdity. the fact that some things are slightly funny manages to make it scarier, especially when paired with his distinct art style. it’s got a very distinct oppressive feeling to it, like someone has placed a stone on your chest.
but for some reason... whenever it gets adapted into an anime, the animation never compliments junji ito’s work. the pacing of the episodes, the color choices (some of which are interesting, others feel like scooby doo), the voice acting, and the directorial choices never quite suit the thing that makes junji ito’s work so genuinely frightening; the expression and absurdity. while his manga plays up on uncomfortable pauses and expressions, heightening both negative and positive emotions into a place of horror, the anime adaptations never seem to do that. they always somehow end up feeling cheap and somewhat vague, like the adaptation was half-baked when it was released.
all of that discomfort (the good kind, not the one brought on by the feeling of professional incompletion), is lost in exchange for exaggerated voice acting and gimmicky story climax scenes that lose junji ito’s distinct voice as a horror manga artist.
it’s possible that my qualms are mostly with the animation style and the fact that it is exceedingly simplified even in the most tense moments of the story, though it honestly just feels like a poor adaptation of junji ito’s work (specifically about the new netflix series).
