Do you really believe alan was intended to be gay all along?
yes, i genuinely sincerely believe alan scott was always intended to be gay. yes, since his creation in 1940. i promise i'm not joking.
see, i don't think mart nodell went out there with the intention of specifically making a gay homosexual character but it's always been plain to see that he never intended to have any women in alan's life, that's pretty clear in every interview he's ever given. i think bill finger (who notably does not get co-creator credit as alan arrived effectively fully formed by the time mr finger got involved) attempted to bring a degree of normalcy with irene miller's existence but whatever the intention behind irene, it quickly got shot down between mart and editor shelly mayer.
by the time alfred bester became alan's primary writer (and it was bester that wrote the vast majority of 1940s alan stories and invested time & care into a consistent characterisation and legitimately stunningly well-written stories), any pretence of such normalcy was abandoned -- irene miller vanished into thin air, alan explicitly & angrily rejected any women with any interest in him, and he & doiby moved in together. considering some of bester's major works like the demolished man, who he?, and golem 100 all feature gaycoding or explicitly gay characters (in the case of the latter two), nobody can even argue that writers back then weren't 'aware' of gay people (you don't know how often i've heard that one). in fact, it's around this time that alan & doiby's relationship was also called into question in gershon legman's love & death: a study in censorship (precursor to wertham's seduction of the innocent), and gershon himself was a gay man.
john broome, who took on writing duties after alfred bester, not only kept the now-established status quo of alan's dislike of women but he kept it all the way into the silver age -- all of alan's appearances in green lantern 1960 have him as a confirmed bachelor still living with doiby (a fact which gbc employees are aware of, they call doiby their president's 'man friday' in gl 1960 #40! how crazy is that!). subsequently, paul levitz & gerry conway in the all-star comics 1976 revival also have alan as a confirmed bachelor in so many words.
so, yes, i think the entirety of alan's original canon very obviously has him as canonically gay until roy thomas' retcons in infinity inc 1984.

Today is my birthday. And for this year, here is something I've been thinking about for quite a long time: A good bunch of my favorite male characters - including those I recently knew or I like but not enough as to fanart, but taking away everyone I've abandoned or just felt like they shouldn't be here - all gathered up in a boxing ring, the majority wounded and weary, but some a bit dirty and confused. Serious and sad faces, a dark story to tell behind their piercing bleary looks but for some, way worse. And of course - the simplycity, cartoonism and bouncyness of my circled neckless heads, bubble eyes and long rectangly trapece bodies. Dedication and pressure to myself cannot be forgotten on this process...as well as telling you this is based off the Whatcha Say meme. And now the copyrights, which tells you the characters, their series, their actors and their rights, starting from the first row. Hope you like it! But first...Artwork (c) @CreativeCuquiLu Peter Venkman - Ghostbusters - Bill Murray (c) Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Paul Atreides - Dune - Kyle Maclachlan (c) Universal Pictures, David Lynch and Frank Herbert James Tiberius Kirk - Star Trek - William Shatner (c) Desilu Productions, CBS Paramount Television and Gene Roddenberry Larry Daley - Night in the Museum - Ben Stiller (c) 20th Century Fox, 1492 Pictures and 21 Laps Entertainment Agent K - Men in Black - Tommy Lee Jones (c) Columbia Pictures and Barry Sonnefield Horatio Caine - CSI Miami - David Caruso (c) Anthone E. 20 books I would keep
I saw some other blogs doing this and thought it would be an interesting exercise, so I did it. The idea is you can choose only 20 books to keep, and you can only have one book from each author. It was hard in a different way than I expected; I was expecting to have a hard time narrowing it down; but I actually had a hard time choosing after the first 10 or so books.
It also showed me that I’ve been putting off reading some books that I would actually really like to read, so I’m going to try to focus on reading those next. I also had a few books in mind which I don’t own, but would want to if I could only have 20. There’s also probably something to be said about me for choosing to keep books I haven’t read yet - it’s a bit of a risk, but it would give me something new to read.
1. American Sphinx - The Character of Thomas Jefferson, by Joseph J. Ellis 2. Jefferson, Nationalism & The Enlightenment, by Henry Steele Commager 3. Gentlemen, Scientists, and Revolutionaries, by Tom Shachtman 4. Jefferson: Writings 5. Riding Towards the Light, by Paul Belasik 6. Centered Riding, by Sally Swift 7. Common Sense and Other Writings, by Thomas Paine 8. Classic Show Jumping, by Bertalan de Némethy 9. The Inner Jefferson, by Andrew Burstein 10. Yankees at the Court, by Susan Mary Alsop 11. The Law, by Frederic Bastiat 12. Paris in the Terror, by Stanley Loomis
Books I would buy for this purpose: 13. Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenides 14. The Radical Politics of Thomas Jefferson, by Richard K. Matthews 15. The Autobiography of Frederick Douglass
Books I would keep that I haven't read yet: 16. The Mind of Thomas Jefferson, Peter S. Onuf 17. The Calculus of Consent, James M. Buchanan & Gordon Tullock 18. The Evolution of Political Systems, ed. by Steadman Upham 19. Revolutionary Politics & Locke's Two Treatises of Government, Richard Ashcraft 20. Man vs. The State, Milton Mayer

Saint George the Dragon Slayer Monument built in 1995 in Tamisk (Ossetia). Saint George is locally knows as Uastyrdzhi. The project of sculptor Nikolai Khodov, it was produced as a gift to the people of Ossetia. Today it is the largest equestrian monument in the world. Historically, this was where travellers once stopped and asked for help from higher powers; so the sanctuary of Uastyrdzhi Nykhasa was created.

Licorice Pizza (dir. Paul Thomas Anderson).
[It’s] an absolute delight with such fun performances from its cast. Anderson crafts a wistfully hopeful daydream of another bygone time and place. How the film romances its characters stumbling through life and random situations make the viewer long for a seemingly more innocent or simpler time. Our ordinary yet extraordinary leads sparkle with such natural charisma throughout.

Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer and Keemo Paul decline invitation to take part in three-Test series against England- Firstcricket News, Firstpost
Three West Indies gamers turned down the chance to journey for a cricket tour to England that shall be performed in bio-secure environments amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer and Keemo Paul “all declined the invitation” to affix the squad, Cricket West Indies mentioned Wednesday.
Darren Bravo is probably the most skilled of the three gamers to say no the possibility…
