exes to lovers: again, a top tier trope. “im pretty sure im over them……or maybe im not” skdhdj. especially love reunion thingis so badd, flames rekindling n stuff ykwim? ex!husband oh whew, when theres a kid involved n they’re like “have u seen anyone new at the house?” or “do yk if mama has been seeing someone else?”. leading to some drunken confessions, heartfelt convos, realising u can work things out cuz there’s nobody else who u would rather spend the rest of life with.

forbidden love/arranged marriage: especially with a historic setting or with royalty aus. oh im such a sucker for theseee. pining, the desperation, longing when jt comes to forbidden love is just 🫶🫶 n ur so right sel! with arranged marriages when ur not all that fond of the other but learn about them, see the arrangement as a blessing rather than a burden, slowly growing to love them more than ur own life.

Okay, favorite tropes. “Only one bed” is probably one of my ABSOLUTE favorites. And the moment when one of them looks at the other’s mouth before they’ve acknowledge the Tension ™️ between them!! I am also a sucker for the moments where it’s “will they won’t they” and they both clearly want it in that moment, and then something pulls them away from each other. I don’t have a snappy name for that one lmao. As for favorite lines, i don’t think i have any in canon or in fanfiction, but the more romantic/makes-you-want-to-cry poetry lines always get me. Pablo Neruda (Love Sonnet XVII), Mary Oliver (Wild Geese), ee cummings (I Carry Your Heart) etc. (And ofc select Richard Siken poems.)

In terms of artists whose entire catalogue I could listen to on the regular, Vienna Teng (Dreaming Through the Noise especially) and Keane (Under the Iron Sea especially) are up there. I’m a new convert to Taylor Swift, and “Bigger Than the Whole Sky” kills me every time. (So does “Paper Rings,” but for different reasons.) When it comes to classical music, I love basically anything by Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky. The last movement of Strauss’s “Four Last Songs” (Im Abendrot) gives me goosebumps when it’s not making me cry, and I always cry when I listen to Hilary Hahn’s recording of the second movement of the Barber Violin Concerto. I love Oblivion by Astor Piazzolla; but unfortunately my favorite recording is by Joshua Bell. Caroline Shaw’s Partita for 8 Singers changed me the first time I heard it.

I associate Eris with “This Bitter Earth/On the Nature of Daylight” which is a, like, mash up of Dinah Washington and a string quartet playing a different piece (I think?) and it is so achingly perfect that it haunts me.

But Azris songs? Man, where to start lmao. First, DELIRIOUS BY SUSANE SUNDFOR. Gimme! Gimme Gimme! By ABBA. Never Be the Same by Camila Cabello. Desire by Meg Myers. Closer by NIN. Flesh by Simon Curtis. Hatefuck by The Bravery. Touched by Vast. Close by Nick Jonas and Tove Lo. Everytime We Touch by Cascada. Stray Italian Greyhound by Vienna Teng. So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth by Grimes. Tongue by MNEK. Middle of the Night by Elley Duhe. I Will Possess Your Heart by Death Cab for Cutie. (Strangely, I don’t have any classical pieces that jump out as Azris-coded, mostly just things that make me want to write (which is usually azris lmao))

Huge agree to everything you said here!! The manga is absolutely amazing and the Hoenn arc is probably my favourite for so many reasons including the romance. Honestly the whole of how Ruby and Sapphire's relationship developed in general is great, kudos to the writers, I think it was one of the first romances I actually enjoyed.

Yellow my beloved!! Honestly they were so good in their arc, I adored the team Yellow built. It's not that novel of a concept but seeing their Pokemon that were commonly considered weak being a threat was amazing to me. I love the team building in the manga in general honestly, it always lets Pokemon considered weak just look really great. Delcatty and Mightyena holding their own against Norman's Pokemon? Amazing I love Ruby for it.

I'm sorry if you didn't want replies to the PokeSpe post fhfhk I tend to ramble a lot when people talk about Pokemon. Take care and I hope the booster shot symptoms don't hit you too hard!

srsly these kids had Trauma. theres The Incident but also norman (ruby's dad) like uh. why the HELL were you SO VIOLENT IN THAT ONE SCENE??? when i read this at 11yrs old i was like "oh that makes sense, norman is angry cuz ruby ran away!!! it's tough love!!" but now that im 22 yrs old im like "HEY, NORMAN? U HIT UR KID. THAT IS PHYSICAL ABUSE TO A CHILD." like im glad norman does better later and that they reconcile but also what the fuck

BUT what i wanna talk about most is ruby and sapphire's character. it's frigging incredible to me, the both of them. how one traumatic Incident that happened when they were kids changed the entire course of both their personalities because that event instilled core fears into them.

ruby who was at first into battling but after The Incident saw that battling (that pain) made his best friend look at him with horror in her eyes. sapphire who as at first a meek prim proper girl but after The Incident saw that this made her helpless and powerless to save her best friend who got so frigging hurt. both of them fixating on that. ruby fixating on how pain made him "ugly", sapphire fixating on how meekness made her "powerless"

and thus them going forward in a different trajectory. ruby finding his footing in beauty, aesthetics, and performance, and being a snotty bitch (affectionate) at ppl into battling. sapphire finding her footing in becoming a battle master to hone her strength and also literally grow up in the wilderness, she was the BLUEPRINT for the feral girl archetype but actually done well. they reunite, do not recognize each other, clash so much because the other embodies something they dislike (cuz in the past that something fucked them up so much) and then coming to accept all parts of both each other and themselves

and then they fall in love

foils to one another, finding parts of themself in the other, learning to be vulnerable and trust once more

People keep sending me this lol- but I always have more wips so I don’t mind in the least <3 (Perfect time to talk about inthaf omg)

It’s Nice To Have a Friend (inthaf) is the title of an original fic that I’m slowly chipping away at in hopes of actually writing something original… it’s based on the Taylor Swift song of the same name. Ever since I first heard this song I’ve wanted to write a childhood friends to lovers fic but it never really fit any of my ships (surprise surprise, there's a thing called original fiction. Who knew?) This idea has been brewing in my mind for about a year and a half now, but I just started plotting and worldbuilding about a month ago! Not many details are set in stone and I want to keep it under wraps for a while yet, but the main premise is two childhood friends reuniting after years of being apart. Shenanigans (also known as the plot™) ensue. I’m really excited about this fic tho! Maybe I’ll actually finish it… (I say, as I haven’t even finished one fic)

15. which is harder: titles or summaries (or tags)?

Great question great question…. Am I allowed to say all of them?

Titles usually come to me sometime while writing, or at least fragments of titles, so those aren’t super hard unless they don’t come to me lol in that case that would be the hardest part of a fic.

Summaries have been drilled into my brain for years (meaning I loathe them) but if I really need one I’ll do it, but if I’m feeling lazy I’ll just use an interesting quote from the fic as a hook and call it a day. aaty has the one summary I’m actually proud of that I put effort into lol

Honestly I don’t give a shit about tags… sometimes I use them, sometimes I don’t, sometimes I forget that ao3 isn’t tumblr and I use the tags like I would on tumblr lol

18. do any of your stories have alternative versions? (plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterisations?) Tell us about them.

So many of them!! I briefly thought about writing Carmen and Julia’s relationship before the events of aaty, thought about writing a fic where Carmen faked her death for an epilogue-type fic set after you’re gone (and I’m all alone), gala fics… so many gala fics for carulia. There’s actually one coming up in both of my carulia multichaps, although I won’t tell you where.

First is SWUP, you said that both Unicorns and Dragons are aliens that are apparently at war with one another. Like, they're from different planets and are waging wars over resources/colonies/bad first encounter/something else, or are they from the same planet and evolved together to be both space travelers, but their situation is similar to that of the USA and the Soviet Union, where they're raceing eachother and fighting over economical and political might?

Also, since there are Unicorns that are being sent to Earth only to return later, would there be Dragons there too? Would there ver be an encounter between the protagonist (I forgot her name XD) and a Dragon or another Unicorn besides Wine Aunt? Would some of the friend ever encounter and befriend a Dragon, either by being their friend despite having both of them meet and beat eachother? Or my favourite scenario in this case, be friends with both of them with them never finding out about it? XD

Now it's Free time (nice name btw, I can get a few vibes from that alone :D), the idea with the best trope to ever exist, found family (I'm also a sucker for those XD)

We have the protagonists (whose names I forgot yet again XD), the owner of the braincell bird lady, naive and overly curious problem human (and potential human disaster too since he live in a Dome, and was probably born with a silver spoon), and feral child (there can't be a better description for that XD). How many headaches would bird lady have a day when dealing with both of them at the same time? How would problem human interact with feral child? I can't imagine those interactions being peaceful most of the time. Would the feral child eventually come to see the other 2 as their parental figures? Accidently calling them mom and dad (or any other variation) in their misadventures?

Would the found family ever expand? would there be additions in the form of crazy uncle, stoic aunt, murder cousin, and/or more? Like, I can imagine their family expanding over time the same style as FMA:B, where they meet people that eventually become family to everyone, but considering that they're always traveling, they rarely find eachother (until the possible falldown once they reach the Dome at the end of the voyage, where there's almost always a big encounter and heartfelt goodbye, which only sometimes are left as goodbyes for separating found families is a major crime unless there's a really good reason for that).

Well, that's all the asks for your OCs/stories ideas for now, for even if I had more questions I'd still be missing some (or a lot) of info to make them XD

With unicorns and dragons (no design yet, or at least an updated one) I was thinking they live in the same solar system, just on sister planets. So their ecosystems are pretty similar. They're both just very territorial. Plus they've gotten to the stage of harvesting other planets resources. So they've reached the point of going to different "earth type planets" But not on the level of having full control of their solar system. If you get what I mean.

So they're waging war over resources, colonisation, etc. Yeah let's say they're similar to Russia vs to USA, but more violent!

No dragons yet, but a little there's a rumour going around, so perhaps a dragon is on their way. But that's for me to know and you to find out. (If i ever develop this story and make a webcomic- sobs, I love developing shit, but me attention span is too short. By the time I've got something im on to the next thing. Thus the cycle continues!!)

Wine aunt/ Felidae is one of the few unicorns on earth. She's a bit out of sorts.

No plans for the dragons yet, but I'll keep that in mind.

Found family would defs expand. I've got one in mind. But I might expand it further. I've got too many stories where its a main trio. Where's my main... 12'o. jk..... unless

What character archetype or trope is your favourite?

i loooove characters who fit multiple different archetypes, or who subvert them. like lan wangji being silent and stern on the outside, seeming cold in his assessment of others and situations but as you being to pick apart his character you can see hes extremely emotionally driven with his love for others being one of his main driving forces.

wei wuxina is another good example of a character the emodies multiple different archetypes, with him being the hero/protag, the outcast of society, the joker. a lot of wwxs, in theory, should contradict one another, but only serve to deepen his character. and i do love a character who is good, but willing to make tough choices for the sake of everyone else (the doctor is also a good example of this). taking a character who has a strong moral compass and forcing them to use it in situations where no matter the choice something bad is going to happen, but someone has to make the choice... such a good character moment when done well and wwx has many of these moments in mdzs.

i really do like the classic trope of "you think i hate you but im actually in love with you". just for the big blow out that always comes, and other building tension to the reveal. im basic like that. actually i love anytype of reveal, like wwxs golden core. you know i was waiting for the big fall out to come of when jc and lwj found out. i love most hurt/comfort tropes tbh, am a sucker for angst.

i feel like you already know this about me but i really dont have any organisation for my music playlists dsfkhjdfskhj its a huge mess, i think the most organised it is rn is that ive put all of my '''''indie''''' sounding songs into one big playlist but its kinda a mess now bc i keep adding songs that i randomly refind, so its more of a "omg i forgot this song existed" playlist. i also have a kpop play list where i just chuck every kpop song i like into it, yanno for if im in the mood for it. tho recently ive created an 'upbeat' kpop song playlist dksfhjfkhjd. but other than those, i usually just put on an album i like or hit shuffle on my liked songs.

hey so since its summer is there any type of fic you wanted to read ? any storyline that you just feel like you want to see be developed into a full fic maybe? i'm just asking some of my fave authors since i need inspo - also you can recommend your fave fic atm? if not its fine - stay lovely!

awwwww i just busted the biggest uwu i can believe i’m someone’s fave pls i might cry also saw that you sent this to @/caiuscassiuss and my mind exploded, that’s a person with talent right there

i don’t have any particular storylines or plots that i think should come to fruition so i’m sorry about that baby but i’m going to throw out some of my favourite tropes and just things that i wish i saw more in fics ??? if you get me ??

it’s pretty obvious with what i have written that i’m a huge fan of best friend’s sibling and fake dating bc of my series as well as brother’s best friend bc i like seeing the different dynamics that come out of those situations. i’m very much a sucker for misunderstood characters so i like seeing fics with good character development and progression where you can peel back the layers much like an onion as a fave would say

some general genres that i would love to see more of would be fantasy i have a fic rec for this although it isn’t nct so i won’t be including it and mystery, particularly murder mystery- i grew up on old murder mystery shows like murder she wrote so this genre will always have a special place in my heart. something that is more prominent in my taste for anime is a psychological thriller. i don’t know what it is but there is something i really enjoy about that genre.

now for some fic recs!

basically anything written by @stormae special mention, her fic chiaroscuro (yukhei) will always be special to me bc of the overall beauty of it but it was also the first nct fic that i read. she doesn’t write for nct anymore but i reread her fics over and over. her blog rn is art and fashion and more classical and im in love

next is @agustdomain in particular the donghyuck fic, take me to outer space. it’s an actual masterpiece very much like chiaroscuro but in an entirely different way. i actually read them one after another and it was a good afternoon cried a whole lot tho. also the jaemin fic is one of my absolute favourites.

fics i’m currently reading are @hyuckiebabie ‘s bad intentions series which has me in love with idea of arsonist!donghyuck and also @neocultvretechs ‘s silver dollar, golden flame series. it’s a doyoung series and honestly i can’t get enough. this next one was mentioned by @caiuscassiuss and it’s @jaextapose ‘s 1-800-chaos. it’s such a unique take on a misdial and again like all of these, the writing style is amazing.

OH MY GOSH ANGST???? I love angsgd snhsjdhdhdhf im sorry im incoherent rn i thrive on perpetual sadness ajsbdhdhfh for angst, im just generally a pretty pessimistic & sad person LMAO i just draw the emotions i need from day-to-day life. but also, what you find angst can be different to other people, so don't conform to one writing style/trope/etc.

personally, i really resonate with stories where the angst is almost always heavily internal conflict. one of my favourite themes/motifs is the morally good character losing hope in the world bcs reasons 😩😩✨ i think to write effective angst, you shouldn't be afraid of making the character morally reprehensible. go crazy!!! go wild!!!!

I've found that instead of simply describing the character's sadness and confusion, it's better to show it through other characters' points of view. it is much more effective to show how the pain is affecting a character than it is to simply describe it. i adore seeing a character become a walking disaster and feeling helpless to stop it 👁 ehe

a weakness of mine is writing moments instead of actual plot tbh. i tend to visualise the climax before i know how to reach it 😞😞😞

im not exactly sure how to describe actually writing angst... i just kinda make everything i write accidentally sad 🤡🤡🤡 i can def help u out if u ever have a draft or something hehe im a sucker for tragedy & miscommunication

ooooo exactly that !!!! like I feel like angst rlly can be pretty broad but is also really limited with tropes and sort of repitive concepts (like imagine a couple fighting, it tends to b smth building then the arguing, someone says smth out of pocket and bam, the other person is hurt and they forgive their partner, or feel even more disconnected/break ties)

romance against is pretty limiting but brain rot for other kinds of angst can b kind of amazing but so painful 😭 family angst, best friend angst, just severed relations even without closure from both sides, just ✨angst✨ tho internal crumbling is also such a concept tho morally good to losing hope is almost a beautifully evil 180 LMAOO-

pls I rlly needed to half hear that 😭 because for haikyuu there’s not a lot of room for charas falling apart if that makes sense like w genshin it’s doable and you feel like it’ll b ok (it’s hard to explain but I hope to one day elaborate on this)

What is your total word count on AO3? 179641

How often do you write? at least twice a week. im trying to be better about it tho

Do you have a routine for writing? Gee. Not really. Usually inspiration strikes me at random and inconvenient times. So usually I sneakily write on Google Docs at work or I jot notes on my phone. But mostly I just stare at a blank page and try not to cry when the words aren’t working. I mean, we come and we go, right? I have a huge folder of writing inspiration and references on Chrome that I just comb through sometimes.

What’s your favourite kinks/tropes/pairing? Pairings: I am not a picky shipper, I like all equally, but I’m most active on Gradence right now, so Percival Graves/Credence Barebone, but also I like the ever classic Spock/Kirk, Charles Xavier/Erik Lehnsherr, Hannibal Lecter/Will Graham, but I mostly write gradence because I’m basic :)

tropes: oh god. I love high school alternate universe, bedsharing, fake relationship aus, soul breaking angst and loving comfort after, I’m just a sucker for happiness in general.

kinks: nuh-uh, honey, the only kinks I have are the kinks in my neck y’all don’t know me like that... ;)

Do you have a favourite fic of yours?

I’m really proud of my work on my selkie fic A Voice of Naught and Night. I don’t know what happened there because I have an outline and most of chapter 4 done, I just lost motivation I guess. But honestly I want to pick it back up because it’s such a fun thing to write. I’m obsessed with selkies and mermaids, it’s my guilty pleasure.

Okay, but the real fic that really sparked my interest back in writing is Boy, We’re Gold and all of the Picture Book series. Writing it with @pineapplebread gave me one of the most wonderful experiences and friendships, but also just a sense of self-confidence in my writing. It’s also just a good self-indulgent fic to write, and was always genuinely just something fun to do. The fact that so many people liked it too is just part of the experience that made it so great.

Your fic with the most kudos? Boy, We’re Gold (and I wouldn’t have it any other way)

Anything you don’t like about your writing? oh god. I have no control over my prose. It gets so longggg and too detailed and I always have these massive run on sentences I end up having to cut up into smaller ones. It’s annoying and also too much. Like, sis, stop. You’re not F. Scott Fitzgerald, take a walk.

Now something you do like! I like my dialogue! I think my characters end up sounding like real people, which is always the goal :)

8- Favourite trope to write?

listen…. im such a sucker for hurt/comfort. literally anything wherein one character is hurt physically or emotionally and another comforts them or protects them or somethin??? i die for it tbh (this is more of a genre then a trope but STILL)

9- Least favourite trope to write?

LITERALLY ANYTHING WITH MISCOMMUNICATION. there is a point where miscommunication is just dumb tbh?? like i can understand people not wanting to talk to each other for genuine reasons/emotions, but if it’s somethin like…. character A hears a snippet of conversation of their S/O and totally misinterprets it then makes some dumb assumptions and it fuels the tension for another 5 chapters, im so gone. 0/10, have definitely stopped reading stories because of this before :(

10- Pick a writer to co-write a book with and tell us what you’d write about.

(is this like…. a published author…. im just gonna assume no, and that i can choose anyone i want) @horizon-runner , definitely. Charlie is a good friend of mine and im constantly in awe of their writing tbh??? Like, serious #writinggoals !! We’ve written some things together before and we work really well together too :) As for what we’d write about, i can’t say for sure, but probably something sci-fi fantasy-esque? with lots of good good gays and jokin around lmao

13- How do you deal with writers block?

, this is a bad answer, but like…. by not dealing with it. i have a really really bad habit of just avoiding the problem forever until i get pumped up enough to deal with it. It’s why it takes me literal weeks to just get through 100 words sometimes :( Some things i do try and keep in mind, though, are: A) Always write what you would want to read. If you’re not interested in your own storyline, you’ll lose steam fast. B) If you’re struggling with a scene, just kill it tbh?? switch POV! Have someone get mad! Just speed up the plot and move it forward super quick!! don’t let yourself get dragged into a ditch of plotholes and OOC behaviour (this is where im at right now tho lmao) C) remember that no matter what you’re writing, you’re writing it one word at a time, just like everyone else. You can always, always find the next word if you try hard enough :)

16- Where do you take your motivation from?

Admittedly a lot of the time I’m motivated by… remembering the feeling of being done with a story. The feeling of like, knowing that it’s finished, and I’m proud of it, and I can try something new now! I imagine being finished, and being so very very proud of myself, and I get all pumped up to keep working towards that feeling. Otherwise, it’s motivational speeches I whisper to myself on the way home from school lmao

29- Who do you write for?

Myself. I feel guilty about leaving audiences waiting, definitely, and that’s another source that makes me keep writing, but in the end I will always write first and foremost for myself. Because i love to write, and I want to keep doing it forever.

30- Favourite line you’ve ever written?

Oh dang, I’ve gotten this question before! I can’t remember what I said last time, but I remember re-reading my own works and struggling so much to find a good good line. I wish I had an answer for this. But I think it’s more honest to be frank and say I don’t really have any lines i’m particularly proud of- and every line looks weak when removed from it’s context :\

33- Do you listen to music when you’re writing?

Only if i was listening to music before I started writing, and I forgot to turn it off. I tend to tune it out anyways, so there isn’t much point to having it on! any music with lyrics makes it hard to think for me through writers block too :\

37- Most inspirational quote you’ve ever heard or read that’s still important to you.

Oh gosh, there are surely more quotes than I could ever name that rung a chord with me, but if there’s a book I immediately thought of after reading this, it would be Welcome to Nightvale. I like the podcast, but I loved that book so. However, WtNV doesn’t have the most inspirational quotes ever, so how about some Winnie the Pooh? (yes im a giant nerd i know) “Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day.”

39- Do you base your characters off real people or not? If so, tell us about one.

Ahh not really? Like, I definitely know some people in my life who could be super interesting as characters in a book if I adapted them that way but honestly my way of creating characters usually goes: I draw someone, and then as I’m drawing them I come up with their story

44- Best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten.

I have about 5 comments that people have sent me on AO3 that I never deleted from my inbox because they’re just such positive and wonderful messages that I would never want to delete them ever

45- Worst piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten.

gosh this is going back to the dark ages but the very first review i ever got on a fanfiction (that i posted when i was 11 on fanfiction.net) was basically telling me to delete my story and write something actually good//that my writing sucked. 11-year-old me didn’t care a bit tho!! gosh, she was so utterly determined to stick it to that person and keep writing and get better. I’m proud of 11 year old me ngl??

52- How did writing change you?

tbh I wish I could say writing has changed me somehow but writing is like. in my soul, no matter how cheesy that sounds. I wrote my first story when I was like 5 and I just kept writing and writing and writing. Sometimes I look back at lines I wrote when I was only 12 and get all teary because I’ve come so far, but that spark was always there. It’s always been what I loved most and wanted to do most. Writing didn’t change me. it’s always been a part of me.

53- What does writing mean to you?

Haha well I think I answered that pretty well in the above statement, but… writing is like. All I’ve ever wanted to do. The longer I go without writing, the emptier I feel. Writing is an escape from reality, it’s a joy and a curse, it’s awful and amazing and I love every aspect of it.

54- Any writing advice you want to share?

If you write the story you’d want to read, someone else will always, always want to read it too. Write for yourself, find some reason to write besides guilt of not getting another chapter out. Get excited about your own writing! It’s amazing, only you could make it, and the emotions you put into writing will get through to the people reading it. The better you can visualize a scene, the clearer it will be to a reader. Pressure, btw, is not your friend. Have fun writing, because writing isn’t a chore. Find ways to motivate yourself that are self-reliant! Shut off communication channels, because things Will Distract you. I could say a lot more, but here’s the last thing I’ll say: Don’t take anyone else’s writing advice too seriously. (and that includes mine too) Everyone has their own style, and their own way that works for them. I read through writing advice lists and find myself totally disagreeing with some of the points :\ im sure some people would disagree with some of the things i’ve said! You can find your own way, your own style, and your own story. You’re an individual. Create something beautiful, in the way that works best for you.
