Nikaido Yamato: So about that show... they said the theme this time is "youth" in relation to the drama, and they sent a bunch of surveys about it
Nikaido Yamato: What did you answer, Natsume-chan...?
Natsume Minami: Oh. Aren't you looking forward to the talk on the show?
Nikaido Yamato: Well yes, but I'm just wondering about the direction you’re gonna be taking
Natsume Minami: Direction?
Nikaido Yamato: Are you gonna answer it lightheartedly or seriously?
Natsume Minami: Well, I think we need to be serious.
Natsume Minami: That's why I even answered the 5th "Please describe your flavor of youth" question seriously.
Natsume Minami: I wrote that it “tasted like milk tea."
Nikaido Yamato: Oh, so that's what "flavor of youth" means, as in what you drank the most back then.
Nikaido Yamato: Well, ŹOOĻ sells the tough-guy image well so you should be fine with that answer.
Natsume Minami: What do you mean back then? I was talking about when I was in school, I was really into drinking black tea.
Nikaido Yamato: Oh, I see!?!?
Natsume Minami: Oh my. What did you think I was talking about?
Nikaido Yamato: No, my bad. It's nothing.
Natsume Minami:

Natsume Minami: I’m guessing “youth" refers to teenage years, but it's complicated to define. There were other questions about what we did after school.
Nikaido Yamato: I see. You were busy with work, Natsume-chan.
Natsume Minami: Yes. Unfortunately, I was always so busy with work that I don't remember much of my school days.
Natsume Minami: If anything, I think now feels more like youth for me.
Nikaido Yamato: I get that.
Nikaido Yamato: Hanging out with those guys feels like I’m back in junior high.
Nikaido Yamato: We do things like chugging soda in the middle of summer, having snowball fights in winter, it’s like I’m doing kid-like stuff all year round.

Nikaido Yamato: He couldn't accept his best friend leaving, so he blamed everyone around him for his problems and vented his bad days to his friends so they would comfort him
Nikaido Yamato: Wait... I kinda feel like I’m having déjà vu...
Natsume Minami: Oh?
Natsume Minami: In reality, all he wanted was to skate with his best friend again, but he couldn't say that one word, so he struggled with despair all the while.
Natsume Minami: He was unable to be fully emotionless, so he couldn’t help but show vulnerability and kindness to those who loved him, which resonates with you deeply.
Nikaido Yamato: Damn. You really went into details
Natsume Minami: It's fun. I enjoy discussing acting with you.

Rayday's Swap AU ~ Emily
Finally got around to the main woman of the show! I really love how she turned out, like, a lot. ( She looks like such a cutie patootie in me and my friends' opinion. )
More information about the design + "sprites" under the cut ( includes 2 alt hairstyles )
Hair style - I literally couldn't pick what to go with for her. Like, I wanted her to be different enough from canon!Charlie, but I also didn't want to give her a bun since both my swap!Velvette and swap!Rosie designs have that hairstyle.
In the end I landed on giving her a ponytail for her ( since that was the option that won in the poll I posted, otherwise she would've gotten a bun. ) But I couldn't really stop myself and made 2 non-canon alt hairstyles, including the bun version.
Heart theme - While this theme isn't visible on canon!Charlie, her full demon form does have hearts in it ( mainly in her tail and on her dress. ) Emily, on the other hand, seems to sor of have a diamond-shape thig going on.
I decided to switch their symbols, not only because that's what I've sort of done with my previous designs, but also because the diamonds on canon!Emily's dress turns to eyes in her partial angel form, and that I draw braids with hearts so yeah.
Outfit - There isn't anything too notable about canon!Charlie's outfit, as most of her strong character design characteristics ( in my opinion ) lie in canon!Charlie's hair and face.
This isn't to say it's a bad thing, as I did pretty much the same here for Emily ( working in my favor considering Emily also has a good chunk of her defining features in her face and hair. )
Subtle eye changes - If you take a close look at Emily and Charlie's eyes you can see I gave swap!Emily the same type of irises as canon!Charlie. Why did I do this? Well, the answer is I decided to swap their species!
Why I swapped Charlie and Emily's species - Simple: canon!Charlie being a hybrid between a fallen angel and a human/sinner is pretty much intrinsic to her character.
The same goes for other characters like Lucifer, Sera, Adam, Lilith, Eve, etc as what they are and the roles that comes with that shaped their part in Hazbin Hotel's story pretty drastically.
Demon form - At the moment I currently only have a rough sketch of her demon form completed, but either way it's still up for change, so I won't say anything concrete about it here.
I'll likely create a regular illustration to show off this design at some point though, similarly to how I did with swap!Vox's true face.
Just don't take my word on it cuz uh yeah forcing myself to draw will not be fun :'3

So… I want to talk about this scene and what it means to me:
Despite what happened in the last season, I think Thomas is actually a very pro-life person deep down.
When he held his lighter above the trenches at night, it formed an image like lighting a candle in the dark. However weak the light was, it was the only light in that war zone. In that moment, he was holding onto the little hope that is left.
“There must be more to life than this.”
To him, what brought him to despair years later was never the hatred he received as a gay man, he’s been facing it for such a long time after all. But it was the lost of hope for any chance of living a fulfilling life - a sense of purpose. “I have never felt such a lack of reason. Why am I here? What am I doing?” He asked. The fact that his profession was losing its significance, his teaching was deemed unorthodox, and even an aristocratic gay man can only seek temporary pleasure in a remote place but finally also resorted to an eternal escape… all these had finally led him to realise anything he had dreamt of was only a false hope.
Did he really want life to end? No, I don’t think so. He wanted life to be. He wanted to live - for once, for real. He has tried and tried for so many times over the years, even if it takes to hurt himself so badly. But still he couldn’t. So lastly he took his life with him, hopefully this time to a better place where it can truly be one that’s worth living. It has been a really sad but powerful story.
Now, after all the hard times, I can only hope that his dream has finally come true. True to the end.

yeah overthinking prophecies is the mind killer but i have to say my piece re azor ahai, that is, if it's really meant to be one character, then the best narrative choice is dany. not only because she fulfills every word of the prophecy an entire book before we even learn of its existence. but also "no one ever looked for a girl," aemon tells us. in-universe her gender precludes her from being imagined as the saviour figure and on a meta level even the readers don't think the 16 year old girl with this much power (dragons) will be allowed to keep that power and fulfill an important narrative destiny as a hero of the story. the expectation is that the character will be brought low and/or surpassed by the classic warrior hero archetype of jon. which is why i think dany being AA is the most subversive choice. and would actually make jon the red herring.
#i am also partial to “everyone is azor ahai” as in it's just a long night legend sharing similarities with other myths around the world#and is meant to inspire people. so sam dany jon bran tyrion etc will all have parallels#but it's possible grrm means it to be just one character. even if that character is never conclusively identified in the text as the ONE#“no one ever looked for a girl” wrong! it was a boy all along! is a really bad reveal lol. which is why only jon being AA feels wrong to me#and “dragons out of stone” means just that. hatching dragon eggs. does anyone think jon is about to hatch more eggs#because not only is it anticlimactic to introduce more dragons at this point but also deprives dany of her agot character defining moment#valyrianscrolls#asoiaf#daenerys targaryen

do you have any thoughts on zelda not staying as a dragon? me personally I like it and am very cool with it mostly because I think zelda should get to be happy forever (and because I'm smart enough to know she changed back because of recall and not some ambiguous power of love lmao) but a lot of people seem to dislike that it made the draconification inconsequential?
i think there's like. some valid concerns surrounding inconsequentiality/"curing" the physical problems characters have as a way of giving them a "happy ending" but I think those concerns don't necessarily apply to totk in the way people seem to be applying them, especially irt zelda's draconification and link's arm.
most of the time when the criticism of this "magic cure" trope is applied to media, it's because the trope is used as a cure-all to erase a character's suffering or trauma and make them "normal" again, and often ignores the character development or themes of the story in favor of giving the character a happy ending. I don't think that applies to totk, though, because the "curing" link and zelda experience is both within the realm of possibility given the worldbuilding present in the game (recall could easily have done it, as you mentioned) AND thematically consistent with the rest of the game. One of if not the most important central themes of totk is the idea of failure and second chances. we see a hyrule that has been given a second chance after link's initial failure with the calamity brought it to the brink of destruction. we see characters who were deeply unhappy and entrenched in the shame of their precalamity mistakes like purah and zelda become active, beloved members of their communities. we see the people of lurelin village take back and rebuild their destroyed home. we watch this kingdom and its people make an unprecedented comeback after a century of struggle and ruin.
Similarly, totk's gameplay is LINK's second chance, his comeback from the initial mistake of losing zelda, of specifically being unable to reach her with his injured hand when they fell. The consequences of that--the master sword's corruption, the loss of his arm, and zelda's draconification, are all supposed to SEEM irreversible, because that's how LINK initially sees them. he believes that he doomed both himself and zelda all because of that SINGLE moment in which he wasn't enough, a viewpoint which is obviously left over from the pressure he experienced to perform to an impossible standard of perfection pre-calamity. The story of totk is about deconstructing that belief and proving it wrong. the mistake he made caused harm, but it's never too late to repair things. he can fix the regional phenomena ganondorf causes and rebuild those communities. he can revitalize the master sword. he can GET ZELDA BACK, with his own arm, uninjured and able to reach her this time. no matter how impossible those things may initially seem, no matter the perceived finality of his mistakes and their consequences, there is always hope. there is always a second chance. no one person's single mistake can doom an entire kingdom for eternity. the fate of hyrule was NEVER resting on link's shoulders alone. he was never their final hope. there was always going to be an after. the whole POINT of the draconification and the loss of link's arm is that they AREN'T final. they ARE inconsequential, because they were born of one mistake and ONE MISTAKE IS NOT THE END ALL.
#like. think about the message the game sends if zelda stays a dragon. we are saying that link CAN'T come back from this mistake.#that one single split-second moment in which he made the wrong move because he had no way of knowing what to do#means that the one person who understands and supports him above all else. the one person who shares his experience and his trauma#the woman he LOVES. is gone forever with no hope of return ever and it's 100% his fault.#that's not true to the themes of botw OR totk. these games are about growth and healing and second chances.#this game was link learning that he gets a second chance. that no move he makes is the final be-all-end-all fuckup.#it removes the pressure and that's the POINT. for a character like link whose life has been DEFINED by pressure#who was taught from a horrifically young age that any wrong move on his part would KILL EVERYONE HE KNEW AND LOVED#this is such an important lesson to learn. removing that pressure/showing him that it was never actually real in the first place#is a crucial step towards healing for him.#asks#zelda analysis#totk spoilers#like i like the idea of lasting consequences dont get me wrong. <draconic features zelda enjoyer#but like. making link keep the fucking rauru arm rubs me the wrong way. the whole point is that he caught her with his own hand in the end#ugh. anyway. you get the idea

hey what if you and your twin brother were the central protagonist and antagonist of a character-action franchise and must therefore fulfill your narrative roles that inherently place you in conflict with each other
#save me dmc 5 as metafiction save me#like theres this extra layer of the story thats like dante and vergil must fight because the narrative demands it from them#especially that final fight where neither party is really at odds with each other and theres this profound sense that the characters#almost wish it didnt really have to be this way? but they accept it and reminisce while they can#thank god nero was like this shit stupid as fuck!#also another reason why i think his moment of stopping them is so good#its him essentially kicking them out of their narrative roles and taking over as the protagonist#he said my narrative now and it works dante even says he can go with vergil cause neros here#cause yeah with nero taking on the role of the protagonist dante and vergil can like actually be brothers again lol#they dont have to be defined by conflict#stories that in general reflect on characters playing roles in the narrative will never not hit for me#dmc#dante#vergil#nero

well hold on, if we define a character flaw as any limitation a character deals with, regardless of whether it's something Morally Wrong With Them or not, then Ford's paranoia counts as a character flaw since it does in fact negatively impact him and the people around him. Let me use better wording here: I will die on the hill that Ford's paranoia is not a moral failing.
#'i'll die on this hill' one second later: un-dies on that hill on a technicality#godsrambles#one way in which i probably differ from ford is that i could not care less about winning any arguments all i care about is being accurate#people are right about a lot of fords character flaws actually. the part they are wrong about is which ones are Moral Failings#and also people misinterpret his motivations and intentions behind things. but the flaws themselves? sure yeah people can identify those#unpopular opinion but i think ego is fine on its own too depending on how you define ego. case in point: papyrus. yknow the skeleton#it only becomes a problem when you're putting other people down. which i dont think ford is guiltless of but. the others do that too#idk sometimes when other people go 'omg... ego moment :/' im like 'a chance to hype eachother up! yay' i dont assume im being looked down o#unless thats specifically demonstrated to be happening#but the thing that kills me is that stan constantly puts other people down. but since he doesnt idk have an ego or talk weird its fine??#i very much agree with dipper when he replied to mabel with 'ford doesnt make fun of me all the time like you guys do'#and like once again. to each their own#some people see that level of making fun of people/being made fun of as just friendly banter and thats fair enough#but i really appreciate that ford isn't like that

They fr just butchered Yang's character and stripped her of all the positivies she had in the earlier volumes, supposedly before her "development".
#submission#frankly in the first volumes she didn't even stuck me as the type of character whose defining trait was anger#she was quick to resolve to it when she was fighting sure#but generally for someone whose main flaw was supposed to be agression she didn't seem like an angry person to me#well except for that scene where she yelled in blake's face and shoved her against the desk twice#that was just yikes#wasn't romantic at all🫠#in fact at some point in her development of dealing with her emotions I believe she should've recalled moments in her life#when she didn't notice she needlessly resolved to anger even when she genuinely meant well#during my first watch she even gave me the impression of that empathetic older sister type#who would on the contrary sometimes would know what to say to calm someone down#and who is just too mature and cool to get pissed over some bs#and when they got angry you knew it meant shit mustve gone bad for real#yes i know i slept on the series#but now she's really walked out on the only significant development she had#yang deserved better#rwde#yang xiao long#luke.txt

im a little sick rn so im sorry if this doesnt make sense or sounds like the ramblings of a crazy person. but every once in a while i see people say that teen titans 2003 completely butchered rose's character and while i think thats true i feel like its also important to mention that. tt03 completely defined rose's character. dgmw she had plenty of good appearances beforehand (titans 99 rose my forever beloved) but teen titans IS her character
like she had showed up in deathstroke comics and mostly either didnt have much of a personality or was experiencing a lot of emotions given that she was having the worst week of her life so its hard to pinpoint an actual personality from that, then in titans she was a fun character but was entirely a side character that didnt have a lot to do. she was on two titans teams before tt03 but never went on a mission (unless u count that one ww issue she was in). not to mention her entire relationship with slade was "hes just kinda the guy that impregnated my mom then indirectly got her killed" so she didnt like him but she also didnt care all that much
but tt03. usually when geoff johns butchers a character he doesnt really give a reason for why their personality is different, but with rose there is a very clear explanation. in #0.5 despite its problems (mischaracterizing lili in the one (1) panel she appeared in and giving rose the. sigh. foster parents.) she was pretty much the same she had been in deathstroke comics, where she was a mostly average person with mild violent tendencies. then wade (same guy that killed her mom) came and murdered her foster parents in front of her, she was very obviously angry and was having a VERY emotionally charged moment. she was angry at the titans because they were the closest people nearby in that moment, then she wasnt angry at slade because he was the one handing her a gun to let her take her revenge. so we very clearly see what made her feel like slade was her only resort, then in issue #12 they say that slade is using the super soldier serum on her to keep her there. so everything is laid out pretty clearly. then ofc when she joins the team in #34 its pretty obvious that her personality is gonna be different bc shes just gotten out of being forced to work with slade against her will, then put on the teen titans where she feels like no one but eddie actually wants her there, but she cant leave because she thinks slade will find her again. shes angry and hurting and her life has been fundamentally changed
basically idk. tt03 shaped most of her personality, her relationship with slade, and her general outlook on life and actually gave a reason for why so much was changed. and before that she had been a pretty minor character, so teen titans gave her a chance to actually. be a character with motives. so while she is a different character in tt03 (though i'd also argue that she has a fairly similar personality in the deathstroke comics she'd been in) i dont think its entirely true to say that it was BAD for her character
#given that shes one of deathstrokes kids i dont think she would've faded into obscurity without tt03 or anything#but she definitely would be a completely different character#i hate to give geoff credit but. the foundations of her character to this day are nearly entirely his doing#along with a bit of sean mckeever given that he was the one to really define her stance on killing#but i have VERY complicated feelings on what he did with that#given that i like her having grey morals and doing a bit of killing#but it also bothers me that she had a really good moment where she chose not to kill someone#and she never killed anyone after she got off the serum until mckeever came#then he had her like. suddenly being more murderous#so he backtracked on her morals AND she was starting to get along with the team and he backtracked on that too#but again. so much of that defined a big part of her character so i cant be too mad ig#rose wilson#dc

The more I work on my long fic the more work I’m realizing it needs…
Maybe I should just take it down for now and repost it when it’s actually ready
#don't mind me having a moment#the main issue I’m realizing is Hualian#XL is a pov character but there’s no real stake for him in this adventure#so there’s no real conflict or growth for him to be had#but on the other side some of the planned scenes with sqx just won’t work if he’s the pov character#because he’s unconscious for them#and there’s no other character who can really fit the role XL plays#because he’s the one sqx trusts the most#things to think about#maybe I should shift gears to my 3T fic instead because the goals for all 3 are defined there#it’s not something I think about as much when writing oneshots#but character drive and motivation is important#the pov character needs to have a reason for acting#that goes a little further than ‘he’s my friend and I’m concerned’#the fic has some good themes with sqx & the peis#I need to find a parallel for hualian that xl can work on#another theme is disappointment (and that it’s ok) so…..#(hualian being one of those couples who support each other 200% makes them kinda boring to write in this sense)#(I think I might need to embrace the ooc a little >.>

#im thinking about ceroba…#im thinking about how ive seen so many ppl (in ‘hot takes’) call her a bad mother for what she did to kanako#and im thinking about how its. silly to base the entire view of her as a character around one mistake#yes sure a very BIG mistake but still one mistake#i dont know if i would even say shes a bad mom. to do so would require me to make some kind of criteria to actually define#what MAKES a bad person#ive spoken before to a friend about how our concepts of good and bad as a whole r subjective anyway#but thats besides the point#i think ceroba as a interesting character becauseee of her mistakes because of her flaws#i think (er. KNOW) that she was a very caring mother. she loved kanako lots lots lots and did everything in her power to fix that mistake#but that doesnt take away that it still happened#im just rambling at this point. nonsense probably#but i think the reason i dislike the bad mom ceroba takes so much is that its reduction to her character in a way…#and that it cant and shouldnt rlly speak to her characterization before and after. yknow the incident#sorry thats a big mess….. i have thoughts i dont know how to speak them#i could say the same abt the other characters too… how ppl like to equate their whole view of a char#to only a few moments with that char#weve forgotten star tried briefly to take clovers soul </3 but oh well#ok im done jfkdkd this is disorganized

still thinking about brennan lee mulligan's "evil is boring" quote as applied to cartoon villains. because he's right. in this story he's right many times over. evil is boring and lonely and miserable. what's interesting is the things that get in the way
#hater's most defining traits are the things that prevent him from being an effective villain#his arrogance his obsessiveness his insecurity etc#but theyre integral pieces of his character and they make him stand out as a villain that can be both genuinely terrifying and dorky#yet ultimately and most importantly self-defeating#dominator isn't that interesting to me on her own. she has character sure#shes cruel and bored and powerful#but shes arguably at her most interesting when she spends a night at the club with sylvia and we get more of an idea of her as a person#not just a wall of force#shes most interesting when we see her almost try to make a genuine connection with another person and fumble it#of course shes also a fun foil. but my point is#the deepest moments we have with these characters are the ones where they fail or falter#where they have a glimpse at who they could be in another life#tag ramble#fallow buzzes#woy#wander over yonder#can you tell this show made me

#clara oswald#doctor who#the fucking loss i experienced in bells of st john#couldnt even allow her to be good at hacking on her own da spoon men had to boost her iq<3#that was the beginning of the end#she was such an interesting and derranged character she deserved more and by more i mean less#so so much less#she was interesting in her own right she did not need that other shit#like she literally had her own time lord victorious moment she saw the universe from birth to death in hide and it changed her#she kept doing increasingly more reckless shit because she went to space to fill a hole she was not trying or expecting to live that long#and she hates it when the doctor tries to be responsible for her#shes always like i never asked you to protect me!!! which is a wild take she refuses to recognise him as the one who can keep her alive in#environments she has never experienced before#she went with him to have some wacky fun and then she saw horrors beyond comprehension and went oh. ok. i can be god too#she looked at the doctor and went oh it's not that you're special it's that your circumstances give you power. and now i have power too#and i have power over you i can make you do things for me#that shit was so good#and like to be clear im not saying she cant have her whole orphan black thing going on#but like what did it actually do for her as a character? it couldve done a lot but she wasnt the focus of any of it#also p much everyone on this show has sacrificed themselves for the doctor it is not a defining trait#what defines her as a character is not that she was Born To Save The Doctor its that she thinks like this#nobodys ever safe!!!!! ive never asked you for that ever!!!

Please allow me to be absolutely insane over Cecil and Kevin for a minute y’all. I finished relistening through Old Oak Doors a few days ago and have FEELINGS!
Please enjoy some ramblings!
Just imagine. He is the best parts of you, you are the worst parts of him. Once upon a time there would have been few differences between you. (But you did not know each other when that was still the case).
You ask him to join you in the “Night Vale AND Desert Bluffs Metropolitan Area”, while your managers refer to it by Desert Bluffs alone. Maybe it’s a last ditch effort to win, maybe it’s some part of you reaching through for that connection. Do you know which? Can you?
You understand each other on an innate level no one else ever can. You’re strangers. You have only ever spoken half a dozen times, and you’ve tried to kill each other in at least half of those. Neither of you can bring yourself to.
You build him a radio station to the best of your abilities.
He gives you hope, he lies to you, he is one of the last people you talk to when even your name ceases to mean anything to you. (The Desert said that he belonged on one side of the door and that you, who were once Voice in your own right, do not).
You are the same, and perfect opposites— until something broke. What happens then?
