Reinvention, if not now, when?

I have been thinking about the melding of fashion and technology for nearly six years. It started shortly after I left the telecomm wholesaler in Tulsa. I wanted to develop an app that would use a womans own clothes to choose her outfit of the day. I think what I have seen to do this for women is inadequate for what women who really like fashion actually want.

I think of when I first had the idea and the apps that were available that cost the user too much time and effort for usership to remain at any feasible level. The idea that I would take a photograph of each item that I use as fashion in order to load it into an app is a tough one to swallow. I was immediately trying to think of ways that my users could do this with enough effort build a following (acquire ownership) yet make it fun. I thought of using the MNIST database of image recognition because there is an app that identifies dog breeds. The reason that app has such high usership is that it is fun to point and shoot to identify a dog. So what about clothing pieces? What if you could take a picture of a person fully clothed and the app could identify a shirt or pants or a dress or a jacket. That could be fun.

Lately I have been rethinking an earlier idea that was to get my user to count her items. The act of counting would give her an accounting of what she owns. This could create a better connection with her wardrobe and how she uses it. Is she accumulating clothes that she never wears just because? Is she building a wardrobe? Is she even aware of what she owns or is she oblivious to what is actually in her closet? These are questions that I ask myself and questions I know other women are asking themselves about their consumption of clothing for fashion.

There is a guy who shared a post about why it wasn't good to have relationships in the dark and not share them with your family. Little did he know though, that was the exact reason why I didn't message him anymore. I avoided him at all costs because my family would have forbidden it. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell him because, again, it would ruin my family. And of course, I don't want that. Ever.
