i always feel bad when i see how the point of a lot of saiki's personality traits flew right over the heads of a lot of fans due to him being an unreliable narrator and a tsundere lol.. so a lot of things he says are immediately proved to be untrue and often just him putting up a front, but some people dont pick up on it..

like i see a lot of "haha saiki would never want to watch a romance movie" guys there is an entire chapter (170) dedicated to him being like "i much prefer mysteries to romance stories.." and then immediately becoming absolutely enamored with a romance story.. he was lying, guys, LMAO

less specific ones include:

"i hate children, they annoy me" *goes out of his way to help kids, comfort them, be kind to them, etc.*

"i only use my powers for self gain/my own convenience." "anyway my mama told me to never use my powers selfishly so i always use them to help people and i try my best not to use them for personal gain<3"

"those guys are so annoying, i would never hang out with them willingly." "yeah it took them about two sentences to convince me to go with them. their thoughts seemed like they really wanted me to go, so i did. i didnt want them to be upset. not that i care about them or anything."

(sorry i post about this kind of thing a lot, i just giggle a lot at how the entire manga is so easily misinterpreted and thousands of people have watched the show but didnt pick up on the main characters most defining character traits and frequent bits.. i think there needs to be a masterlist or something disproving all the extremely common misconceptions about saiki k lol)

there's just something different about pete in the epilogue. he seems so much more settled in his own skin, he takes the time to consider what he's hearing, what he wants to say, how he wants to touch. there's a general sense of calmness that I think can only have come from a significant amount of introspection while vegas was unconscious, after the intense emotional whirlwind of the attempted coup and his resignation.

pete said himself he tries to live in the present, and i think part of that has been a defense mechanism, trying to not self-analyse too deeply or he'll have to confront the emptiness lurking there ("no. I've always been useless."). but after the finale, after finally owning up to what he truly wants and going after it, pete has had time to look at those choices he made in a desperate situation and has had to confront himself about them.

so when vegas asks him why he's still here, he takes a moment to really think about it. and unlike when vegas asked him before at the safehouse why he came back, he actually answers. he gives an answer that could have seemed flippant, but there's nothing but sincerity in the way it's delivered. he can't go anywhere else. and then: he just wants to follow his heart.

it's not a complicated answer. but it's what he didn't understand or couldn't face up to before, and he can only do so now because he isn't hiding away from himself any more. he knows that this was a choice he made and he will stand by it, keep making it, because it's what he wants. he seems so comfortable in his own skin in a way he hasn't before because now he isn't just living in the present: he's thinking about the past and what it will take to live with that, and most importantly he's thinking about the future and the life they could build together. the life he wants to build together.

and that conviction that he wants to keep following his heart gives us a version of pete who is so much more whole than any we've seen before

#kinnporsche #vegaspete #kp orig #i think the epilogue the sex scene and the escape scene are the most maskless we see pete in the show #and none of this is to say pete is suddenly healthy and everything will be fine now or anything like that #but i do think he's so much more grounded in the epilogue and prepared to face the future even when it will be hard #and i love that for him #and yes he gets smiley and shy when macau wakes up but that is just the natural reaction to being teaed by a teen #honestly (and this is just me being me lol) i even feel like those smiles are different???#like they feel more sincere than his big fake smiles do #he genuinely seems like he can't keep the smile off his face after the initial embarrassment and it's so sweet #especially when he cuddles up to vegas at the end he seems so CONTENT #there's something about pete's big character moments occuring in times of high emotional stress #but the last we see of him it's this state of calmness with himself #knowing what he wants and sticking by it #man i just... pete

#like… Pinocchio overshared for sure #but I didn’t think the rest of them were too bad? like they rolled poorly yes but the actual conversations went fine? I thought?#i at least didn’t think they were as bad as everyone else seems to think #like… with ylfa. when you are a young girl and you meet an older woman who is Like You and successful you are drawn to that #her questions didn’t seem invalid if a bit personal #like ‘how did this happen to u? how do u find the answers and the strength to be successful when your like this the way we are now?’#that was fair to ask! there was a moment before that where they even clocked eachother as beasts! and then ylfa asked about Pib #which seemed fine to me. like she was genuinely asking advice and she got shutdown with like a one word answer #I feel like la bête did worse in that interaction than ylfa did #none of the stuff with gerard was really his fault within that interaction. Brennan surprised Murph with the read the cards outloud thing #he handled it the best he could under the circumstances #Pib did great. What a cute trope wtf. That's adorable. Two twelve year old boys in the 80s and they fall in love over the course of many years as they grapple with internalized homophobia and homophobia in their small town? That sounds like a GREAT show where can I watch it? That's adorable.

Mike and Will are in love. And...that's just the premise. That's just the premise of their plot. If you came up to me after you watched episode 1 for spoilers and you were like "What happens to Lucas? Dustin? Mike? That girl they found? The kid who went missing?" I could just be like "Dustin gains confidence and becomes besties with Mike's sister's boyfriend after they break up, Lucas meets this girl who's introduced next season and they're really good for each other, the girl gets adopted by the police chief and then into the Byers and has a great found family and independence arc, and the boy who went missing survives and he and Mike fall in love!"

And that'd just be like...right. I'd just be telling you what happens.

#failboat #that moment at the end of boat's totk playthrough genuinely was so sweet imo. like a heartfelt reunion #bottom left doodle is supposed to be like a family photo. it took an hour to get chat to cooperate so boat's struggling to keep composure #chat is probably standing on something to fit in the frame #as cutesy as these doodles are you have to remember that chat is BRATTY. like an unruly 6-year-old #i see myself and other mods as separate from chat. we essentially have a sort of babysitter role #although i like to think of myself as more of the laid-back uncle who only exercises authority when absolutely necessary n is otherwise laz #and of course boat and chat have like this wholesome yet comedic father-son relationship along the lines of chowder or curious george #meant to finish these last night but it got late lol

still thinking of the hospital scene near the end of move to heaven where geu-ru starts to let slip how much he has been affected by jeong-woo's death. it's been evident before this point, but never more than glimpses. stuff like him refusing to let his uncle use any of his dad's things. he also sometimes provides insight about how he relates to clients, but in a way that gives off an impression that he's sad, but that he's coping. when in actuality, he really isn't.

he hasn't even tidied out his dad's room, just left it untouched. he's been avoiding calls and texts regarding his father's ashes for weeks. han geu-ru is a trauma cleaner. he helps other people move on with the deaths of their loved ones, but he hasn't allowed himself to process.

anyway, it's the dialogue that really hits for me. when geu-ru asks his uncle to be honest with him, because his dad wasn't, and he can't face that again. and san-gu says that jeong-woo lied to geu-ru about being fine because he loved him. so geu-ru doesn't to worry about sang-gu lying because he doesn't love him as much as jeong-woo did anyway. it's half-joking, because at this point we know sang-gu clearly does care for his nephew. but that doesn't matter to geu-ru.

geu-ru says, "don't love me". he says, "don't hide anything from me".

geu-ru knew his dad loved him. his dad made sure he knew it every single day and geu-ru appreciated that dearly. but he would rather his uncle not love him if it means he doesn't have to lose him too.

#move to heaven #<-big spoilers ig #what a show though. it handles geu-ru's arc so well + part of it is that sang-gu's whole deal comes to the forefront + almost distracts you #but it's all there in the moments that geu-ru misses his dad. it just doesn't become clear until right near the end how much he isn't copin #because he's always figuring stuff out for everyone else. even for sang-gu who's meant to be his uncle and guardian.#so it's good to see the tables turn and have the others try to be there for him instead. and give him the space he needs to process.#the whole relationship between him and his dad is so genuinely sweet tho. + there's a reason it took so long for sang-gu + na-mu to find #the right balance. bc sang-gu was just lashing out and being a real dick. but na-mu was being overprotective and getting close to overridin #geu-ru's autonomy to decide what he's willing to do. + ultimately it should be geu-ru's decision which is sth his dad understood.
