Farewell, My Friend💔😭

(PSA: Possible spoiler warnings for The Murder of Me by the Zielo Cave. Only a couple panels, but still...)

So, on Monday night, I was at work, and I checked my phone, mostly out of habit. (I don't recommend doing this, btw, it's a good way to get you written up or worse.) And I saw that I had a YouTube notification on my lock screen. So I open my phone and pull down my drop bar to have a look. And literally saw the absolute worst news.

TMOM is over from The Zielo Cave

Now for those of you that don't know: The Murder of Me, AKA TMOM, is a Sonic the Hedgehog fan comic that first debuted I think 15 or so years ago, give or take, and as much as I would love to claim that I've been a fan since the beginning, I only discovered TMOM about a year or so ago. (I have the worst luck when it comes to finding things; I'm always late to the party 🥺)

When I discovered TMOM I was in a terrible rut. I hadn't posted anything in YEARS, and the writing I had done I kept locked away in notebooks, never to see the light of day. I had no inspiration, no motivation to tell stories. It was a horrible place to be. (-10000/10 recommendation.) Then I was scrolling through Pinterest one day, and I saw a panel of this random comic.

You could probably imagine my reaction. It's so random. Then more cropped up:

My thoughts went HAYWIRE. "Why is Sonic fighting his mother? Why's he dressed like that? WHY IS HE DROWNING?? WHY ARE KNUX AND TAILS LETTING HIM DROWN??? WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING???" So I went hunting, and came across The Murder of Me by Gigi-D on DeviantArt.

I was HOOKED. The plot was so well thought out, the characterization was incredibly done, and as you can see, the art itself was BEAUTIFUL. I couldn't get enough. I flat out ignored life and read through 14 issues in one sitting. It took me all day but it was so worth it. AND THEN: I discovered the dubs on YouTube, and found that Gigi-D had decided to put together a creative team to produce the issues of The Murder of Me as episodic dubs, and I fell head over heels. The cast and editing was absolutely phenomenal, and The Murder of Me had my heart, hook, line, and sinker. What was even better was that they turned Issue 15 into an animatic episode.

Episode 15 Part 1: Purpose released on October 30th, 2022, and since then I have been anxiously awaiting the next episode by rewatching the series and all the prequels and bonus episodes I could get my mouse on. I even forced my best friend one night to binge the entire series with me, and she's not nearly as much of a Sonic fan as I am!

TMOM was more than a great watch or story for me. It was inspiration. I had an itch in my fingers that grew from writing a TMOM fanfiction that would stay hidden away into it's own complex project who's rough draft is now in production. (And could very well be released this summer if all goes well.) It was life breathed into my creativity. It was hope. For the first time in a very long time, I wanted to write. To tell a story like Gigi-D and the Zielo Cave.

And then that notification came. It was like a punch in the stomach. I was terrified and without watching it, I reacted and sent it to my best friend, wailing that once again, a story that I loved was being abandoned. That the writers were giving up. I was indignant. Screw that, I was angry and hurt.

Then I watched the video. I listened to Gigi's story, and immediately felt shamed by my own reaction. The Zielo Cave had been saying that Part Two was taking a while because of personal situations, and when Gigi revealed what had happened, that her inspiration was gone and couldn't bring herself to even sketch these characters that she loved so dearly...my heart shattered for her. While I might not really know or understand the pain of her personal situation, I do know what it is to completely lose the passion for your story. For the characters you still love, but can't bring yourself to engage with.

And while my heart of hearts aches, I know Gigi is doing the right thing. No one wants a story that it's writer is dragging their heels to share, can't bring themselves to write. God knows I've tried that, and trust me, it only hurts everyone. The writer, the fans, and the story itself. By ending TMOM here, she's protecting TMOM and its fans, and even though my heart breaks for TMOM's fate and (mostly) for her, I couldn't be more proud of her. The courage and strength it takes to walk away from such a huge part of your life in search of something more, something better?

Not only that, but honor the work and effort her team has given for Part Two and post it anyway, even though it's unfinished? To offer a written conclusion for the series for the fans that want to know what happens? I've never heard of any creator doing that, ever. All that I have seen would NEVER post any unfinished content, or unveil the unwritten plot and ending. And while I'm devastated for what that means, that TMOM is well and truly concluded and Gigi will probably NEVER return, as a fan of this series, I'm so grateful that what happens to these characters won't remain a mystery.

And to repeat what I said in the comment section of the announcement video: I pray a future that is bright and beautiful for you, and you discover what an amazing person you on this journey of healing. You're going to be magnificent because you are already an incredible person, Gigi. I can't express how important TMOM has been for me, how inspiring the story has been when I was down and unable to pursue my own creativity in my writing, and I just want to thank you for the years of dedication, passion, and love you and your team have given us through The Murder of Me. I bless all the paths you walk from this day forward, and all my love and support for you goes with you on your journeys for all the rest of your days.

The Murder of Me is over. I will always be a TMOM fan, and I will always love Gigi-D and the Zielo Cave for giving me inspiration, passion, and hope for my writing again. It's because of TMOM that The Three Sovereigns even made it to development and is now currently being written with the hope of release this summer, and The Three Sovereigns will always be a tribute to The Murder of Me and the hope this story has given me.

Thank you so much, Gigi-D, the Zielo Cave, and The Murder of Me, and fare thee well, my friend.

Anybody Remember JETIX? 🧐

JETIX was my second favorite channel when I was little (my favorite being Nickelodeon).

From what I can tell from my research, the channel was used to test run different shows to see how audiences reacted to them. Hence why most of the shows that aired there were either dropped completely or made their way to other networks (i.e. Disney, Disney XD, Nickelodeon, etc.)

I'm sure that's why a surprising amount of people remember Pucca, since her show aired on Toon Disney (Ah, remember when Toon Disney was a thing?)

Pucca was one of, if not the ONLY show on JETIX that had a lasting impact, evident enough with that 2019 spin-off show on Netflix.

Other shows that I remember that sadly didn't make the cut or last too long include:

The two other shows that actually survived and were aired on different networks were:

Power Rangers S.P.D.

Side note: I had a distinct memory of ONE Power Rangers show that had a talking wolf character and a silver ranger that turned into a floating bubble, and for years I was called crazy by my sister. Turns out, it all came from this version.

Sonic X

I love the fact that this show was my introduction to Sonic the Hedgehog and the gang. With all its 4Kids dub glory, sharing voice actors with pretty much every single series that aired there, especially YuGiOh.

For anyone who wants to ask btw, I didn't find Chris Thorndyke to be an unnecessary character until I was older. I never hated him, I'm not the type of person to radically "hate" characters at all, but I'm not gonna sit here and tell you that he was a vital character in the series either. The writers just squandered his potential, plain and simple.

Author's Note: 2000s TV shows, providing nostalgia for every late 90s and 2000s kid alike. I know JETIX isn't a relevant topic right now, but the ever-growing WordGirl fandom inspired me to take a peak into the past. (Yes, I also watched WordGirl on PBS Kids). Man, I miss these shows.

Sonic and Infinite are so fucking GRAUGHHHHHHHH I want. To study them in a lab. I don’t know how to convey the emotions I feel for this dog and hedgehog so please bare with me

Before I start my bs I just wanted to say this post actually goes out to @neurotypical-sonic and uh @beloved-user (and maybe a few other people but those were the only 2 that I saw had said anything at the time of writing this) because they wanted to see this content in the world so shoutout to them for giving me the courage to post about these cringe fail mobians (I am the sonic and infinite psychoanalysis anon btw)

there’s so much under the cut please be careful also please be nice it’s 2 am and I’m very emotionally fragile

The fact that sonic and infinite are 2 sides of the same coin yet also thematic foils to each other is just sending me over the deep end I can’t take it ARGHHHHHHH (I am willingly taking it)

You’re probably asking “what the actual fuck are you going on about dude” and to this I raise you all of this entire post (you’re gonna regret asking)

A few things before I start, this is obviously gonna be Forces bullshit because I Bear The Curse™️also I’m only gonna be talking about the English version of the game because sadly I have not been able to play or see the japanese dub yet, I’ll do that later though

Ok autism activated let’s go

Let’s start with our obvious main man Sonic, the blue blur. I’m gonna start with something that irked a lot of people, and that is the fact that Sonic seemingly came out fine after being tortured for 6 months.

The thing is, he was absolutely not fine, at all, it was just so subtle that it was genuinely hard to tell, but once you notice, you continue to notice. The first thing you can see is that he is acting a lot more brutal I guess I could say???

I mean, look at the end of the Zavok fight, he beats the ever loving shit out of Zavok with his hands, not a few homing attack or spin dashes, his fucking hands, I don’t know how often that happens outside of games where the actual gimmick is hand to hand combat, but it seems pretty weird to me how he just keeps hitting Zavok and he just stares at him as he falls, panting and out of breath from how relentlessly he was attacking him

Second, he’s constantly talking about how he wants and will get revenge for what happened, he doesn’t let up that he’s going to get revenge, and I was actually kind of shocked when he started saying that I was kinda like “woah calm down buddy” (note, one of these screenshots is from the wiki because I couldn’t get the image from the game, also, these 2 are just from the cutscenes I could find, there’s so much more, this hog can hold so much malice and rage)

Third? Now this one is my favorite to talk about, because it really shows just how drastic Sonic and Infinite really are, the scene it occurs in is during the infinite fight with sonic and the avatar character, during the first stage where it’s just sonic

You may say “ok what’s special about the reskinned metal sonic fight?” sarcastically but this is a very important fact to me, and the fact is that Sonic just straight up implies to Infinite’s face that he’s gonna murder him!

The line he says is played off as a kinda joke, but the way Sonic says it is so genuine that it’s a little bit disturbing, it’s a fridge horror kind of moment where you look at the line, maybe giggle, but after a quick google you realize just how fucked the line is because of the inclusion of one word, one single word.

The word being “Epitaph.” An Epitaph being the phrase or words written on someone’s tombstone in memory of them.

Now, you may know what line I’m referring to if you’re like me and reply that fight alot, but if you don’t know the line that’s fine, I’m gonna explain it either way because it’s very important to me!

So the fight starts and the first lines said are these;

Infinite: What would you like your epitaph to read? How about “Here lies the blue buffoon”?

Sonic: Why not “Here dozes the masked clown”? Might as well make it for the person who needs one, right?

I think you can see where I’m going with this point, let’s move on now to the other point I wanted to make, which is also kind of a major tone shift from the point above

This point ties in with the “2 sides of the same coin” bit, but the point I want to make is that Sonic needed companionship to win. (Take a drink of water every time I write the word “companionship” or anything similar starting now, see how hydrated you get)

He needed the avatar character to support him throughout that fight, he needed the avatar & classic to help him defeat the eggman and ruby as well, he needed companionship.

This theme of him needing support and a companion is echoed through the very song that is the theme of forces, I am, of course, referring to Fistbump

AGGHHHH I LOVE FISTBUMP SO MUCH IT’S SO GOOD THEMATICALLY AND IT’S ALSO JUST A GOOD SONGi want you to know I’m snarling and biting and growling like a rabid animal but in a good way I’m sorry I just needed to say that real quick back to the point I was trying to make

Now, the first indication that Sonic needs companionship is that Fistbump is literally him “speaking” to the avatar character, the lyrics portray this perfectly, but I am going to stop myself before I go on a tangent about this song for too long, so next um dot point

The second indication he needs companionship using Fistbump is that it plays whenever he double boosts with the Avatar and during the level Null Space, the double boost is self explanatory, it’s them working together, they’re being friendly friends!

What people may not completely get is me bringing up Null Space, because, once again, there’s seemingly nothing special but there is. There is to me. In my heart. I love Null Space as well as the other stuff mentioned here because it ties into this insane bs I’m concocting for my viewing pleasure that just so happens to get to be on tumblr too!!

Null Space is a level where Infinite sends Sonic and, accidentally, the Avatar character to the level’s namesake, Null Space. Null Space is devoid of substance or life, it is the loneliest place you could ever be, but here Sonic and the Avatar are, the complete antithesis of such a concept, they are together, they are safe with each other, they are going to get out of there together.

And so they escape, and what is playing in the background as they do so? A version of Fistbump dedicated specifically to that level.

Before I can make the rest of my points, we have to talk about the elephant, er… jackal, in the room; Infinite.

Let’s start with a general thingy like we did with sonic, now, I’m not gonna go over his actions in game, they speak for themselves, I will, however, be talking about the implications of his actions; his morals, his values, all of that

First off let’s collectively discuss and by discuss I mean go ‘what the actual fuck is wrong with this dude’

It’s very clear that he’s just not a “good” person, he does morally frowned upon things like being a mercenary, of course, that’s one of the big ones, but the one that really fucks with me and makes me really wanna pick his brain is that despite Shadow being the one who hurt him, he immediately clicks to Sonic and the best way I can describe it is him going “i NEED to beat the ever loving shit out of that kid right now.”

Like, even during Episode Shadow, he still mentions Sonic with this personal malice that you don’t expect, stating that Sonic won’t be able to stop him, and it’s honestly just kind of weird tbh???

So he hates Sonic from the start, he gangs up on him, beats him to the point of unconsciousness, kidnaps him, is indirectly (at least) the cause of 6 months of torture, beats him again, tells him he’s not even worth killing, tries to kill him and the entire resistance by throwing the sun at them and then tries to kill him personally before Sonic can finally get the revenge he wanted.

So I’m sensing a lot of initially one-sided hostility between him and Sonic.

Another point is that his theme seems to be directed towards Sonic, it is mocking him, trying to tear down everything he establishes in Fistbump, stating that friendship will get you nowhere when you rely on it too much, asking who is going to save Sonic from Infinite when he is alone?

This is once again shown with how he interacts with Sonic, using Silver and Infinite’s little tussle as a comparison, yeah, Infinite throws an insult, but it’s as a collective, he says he’s happy to crush a hero to keep the “rabble” (the resistance) in line, but when Sonic appears it becomes very personal

He’s immediately on him, stating that Sonic is “back from the dead”, calling him the “little blue savior” and insisting he can smell Sonic’s fear, glad he’s left an impression, noting that Sonic is “still thrashing around”, in his own words.

He speaks to Sonic so personally, hell, he waits for Sonic to quit talking before tossing Sonic to another part of the jungle to fight him alone. He very well could have gotten rid of Silver and then dealt with Sonic, but he instead decides dealing with Sonic immediately is more important than Silver is. He even says that he will meet Sonic again after that fight.

he also threatens to smash Sonic into blue jelly. I just wanted to mention that because it’s funny that he specifically said he would smash him into BLUE JELLY

So it makes me wonder, what is this dude's issue??? Why is he so obsessed with Sonic? And then it kind of hit me. Sonic is the antithesis of everything he values and believes in, of course he’d be intrigued.

Or, alternatively, he’s intrigued because Sonic is just like him.

Yep, It’s the moment we’ve (me) all been waiting for! We’re finally discussing the “two sides of the same coin” point!

Sonic and Infinite are exact opposites but they are also the exact same! They both so desperately need support and companionship (I’ve covered Sonic’s need, but we can see how Infinite needs support and companionship with how he handles the loss of his squad), they both have the same kind of goal (change the world to be a place they would want to live in, good or bad), they’re both associated with the same people (Shadow and Robotnik)!

They are the exact same but they are exact opposites! They are each other’s foils but they complement each other so well, they are two sides of the same tarnished, damaged coin!

I LOVE SONIC FORCES SO MUCH WHY AM I LIKE THIS

Sonic and Infinite are what they could have been based on how they responded to their own struggles. Infinite could have very well been just like Sonic, dedicated to helping people because of what happened at Mystic Jungle, and Sonic could have very well been just like Infinite, lashing out and hurting everyone in his way because of any of the copious losses he’s been forced to deal with.

But they don’t, they become the person they are because of how they respond to their own struggles, trauma, losses and wins. And that’s the beauty of their characters.

Sonic and Infinite are foils to each other, it’s a point you can’t argue, but the reason they are foils to each other is because they are the same in some weird, messed up way.

But I wanted to add one more thing before I finish this off.

Infinite very well left an Impression on Sonic. Like it or not, somehow, someway, Infinite’s concepts and ideals imprinted on Sonic and it made him and his own problems worse. So much worse.

I won’t go into too much about that because that links to other things outside of solely Forces, so yeah, tangent done. Thank you for listening

oh yeah btw i watched the mario movie a little while ago (a month ago maybe? huh). i tracked down the italian version so i wouldnt have to hear chris pratt, but unfortunately they only dubbed over the actual words so i still had to hear Chris Pratt Noises throughout the movie (which was kind of jarring because it sounded so different from the italian voice) (mario and luigi's italian voices are both really good btw)

and actually what i did was take the italian version's audio track and add it to the english version (and a translated subtitle file), so that way i could just switch to italian whenever i saw a scene mario was in (my original plan was to switch whenever mario had any lines, but vlc has a delay where the audio is muted for a few seconds when switching, even if you pause it, so that didn't exactly work). i knew jack black had a song in it, so i thought i probably shouldn't watch the whole thing in italian

overall i liked the movie, though i dont think donkey kong should talk. if they want him to communicate they should subtitle his monkey noises. every other kong can talk though

i really liked how the soundtrack was full of musical references to the series. definitely dont remember much of that in detective pikachu aside from the credits, and i didnt know enough about sonic music to potentially recognize anything in those movies, so that's maybe something the mario movie uniquely succeeded at

i also tried to find the japanese version--it apparently had actual script changes overseen by miyamoto so it could be interesting to watch--but it was literally nowhere to be found so i gave up

Hi! It's the anon from the other day who asked for advice on getting into sonic. I just wanted to send an update that I'm about 20 eps into X and have watched playthroughs of a few games and I'm thoroughly Obsessed. I've been looking through lists of different media so I can plan what I should watch once I've hit all the main things, just wanted to say thanks again! If you have any other recommendations id love to hear them it's been awhile since ive been this excited about getting into a series

Im glad youre liking it!! Btw i was thinking abt other stuff to reccomend and i realized I forgot to mention the Sonic OVA! It is only about an hour long, and you can find it dubbed in english on youtube. The dub aint the best but it doesnt cut/change content like the sonic x dub does afaik

Also another game to look playthorughs that i forgot to mention. Sonic Battle. Its another more story heavy one its really good. And the story book games like secret rings and black knight cause its interesting

And theres the sonic movies too!! I personally dont fancy the first one much but its worth it for the second

I think those are the main reccomendations i personally have a lot of experience with, obvs theres a lot of stuff im not mentioning but im trying not to overwhelm you more than i already am agdjgk

just a small sketch but here’s some of the first consciousnesses i ever had.

before that it was “water dragon” that could spin really fast like sonic (idk if i knew was sonic was but spikey spinning blue ball. so probably) and also turn into water.

you might be wondering, “charlie how is this a self insert?” haha. udertale

some actual undertale spoilers below. sory. also it’s really long oops

the lore is wild but this is sans. yea crazy stuff happened and there was a fox from the surface that fell and in an experiment gone bad (sans was injured cause Human with Sword or soemthing and alphyys was trying to save him in the secret lab by something something determination) and the fox and sans got fused. yea the fox had determination. why? yes

you might be wondering again.. “charlie whys the ribcage out. and melting” yea all of them can melt into a puddle of goo. if they get injured they melt more. but theyre literally unkillable. all of them. the fox didnt have enough organic matter for the whole skeleton so the ribcage was out and part of it looked like it was constantly melting. and thats why it wore a cloak (also cloaks are cool!!! and awesome!!)

you might be wondering again “charlie whats with those other ones on top” YEA I WAS A SANS AU KID. AND YEA I SHIPPED SOME OF THEM LOL. it started with just autumn but eventually more split cause aus were cool and fun. id watch the au comic dubs for HOURS it was crazy.

you might recognize polaris as underswap, cinnamon as underfell, and the unknown name on with yellow eyes as outertale. i think there was one or two more but i dont remember. i dont even remember what the purple one’s based off at all. surprised i never made one based off glitch sans or ink sans or fresh sans or nightmare sans???? i distinctly remember i had none of those.

you might be wondering again. “charlie.. how is it a self insert if you literally replaced one of the characters” MULTIDIMENSIONAL TIME TRAVEL BAYBEE due to shenanigans Autumn(and, in their respective universes, the other ones) original universe was destroyed and they were each sent to a normal version of the one they were supposed to be in with no memory of what they were or anything. like Autumn was sent to snowdinn in normal undertale with sans alive and everything. and underfell was sent to wherever sans is in underfell i dont rememberr.

time warp shenanigans were also how i justified thinking of them meeting their other selves and stuff, and sans from other universes, btw all of them canonically lived in a small like shed next to sans and papyrus’ house in their respective universes. cinnamon lived in a dog house.

anyway it was all fine and dandy until for some reason my imaginationjust like suddenly started becoming less vivid. it’s never properly came back everythings kind of a haze forever now. but they persisted just in the white void for a while. until they were replaced like the dragons before them
