To whom it may concern: the very generous Clementina_Nash on AO3 has been translating my stories into Russian! She already has translations for Beyond a Shadow of a Doubt and Achilles’ Heel for anyone who wants to check them out. She’s super sweet, too! :)

What songs do you think that fits Amy and Shadow?
My knowledge about Shadow is only a few so I'm not sure about him
For Amy, it will be Happy Synthesizer and Ikanaide/Don't Go and various bubbly and lively songs
Tumblr media
Combining these two for convenience.
First one - I’m glad you asked!
Love your ideas, especially Ikanaide. It sounds pretty upbeat at first, but then you pay attention to the lyrics, and...ouch. Feeling left behind and trying to pretend she’s okay with it? Yeah. That’s Amy. Here’s a link I found for an English version.
And here’s one for Happy Synthesizer.
As for which songs I associate with them, my Song & Dance tag covers the topic pretty well, especially this post.
Given how often I think about these two, though, I’m always finding more examples. There’s one song that I feel fits Amy better than any other. I wrote a headcanon about it on January 7th, 2022. I correctly predicted in that headcanon that a bunch of Amy-related stuff would happen that year--right down to her getting a new theme song, even!
I still think my song idea works better than the one in the Frontiers DLC, though. That one feels kind of bland to me. Yeah, she trusts her cards, but she’s supposed to be a go-getter! She reads the cards and then blazes her own destiny using them as a guide. Her mild Frontiers theme gives off the vibe of someone who’s letting fate happen to them, not the other way around. Amy is kind, but she’s not passive.
Laineybug04 correctly pointed out in this post that “House of Gold” by Atreyu fits Shadamy quite well, and I included “Wait for You” in In a Pinch, but it doesn’t stop there. The more I listen to Atreyu, the more I hear Shadamy, and I’m glad you gave me an excuse to point it out! “House of Gold,” “Wait for You,” “Terrified,” “Super Hero”...and “I Would Kill/Lie/Die for You” is pretty much spot-on for Shadow’s brand of dedication. It’s more romantic than the title makes it sound, haha.
They’re not all necessarily romantic in nature, but it’s very easy to imagine Shadow singing them about Amy.
I want to call special attention to “Stronger Than Me,” though.
The speaker starts by showing insecurity.
Yup.
He fears opening up and showing his entire self because he thinks others will be scared by what they see.
Yup.
He admits connecting with him might be complicated sometimes, but he remains steadfast because the relationship is important to him.
And, uh...this is from the chorus:
“When I was lost, You were always there, my guiding light, You are my ward, my compass ROSE, my lighthouse in the night”
Do I even need to explain? She’s one comma away from being name-dropped. The song’s title fits perfectly, too. It takes a lot of strength to always look for the best in people and put your faith in the goodness of others. It’s so easy to give up. Shadow would legitimately admire her for it. She deserves to know how special she is for that, and who better to tell her than someone whose entire life was changed by that strength and kindness?
Here’s a detailed breakdown of the song and lyrics. Trust me, you’ll need the lyrics sheet.
Second ask:
Yes, absolutely! I think of him as liking modern rock and metal, and also jazz because it would’ve been all the rage when he was made. I’ve mentioned this before, but if I had to pick one band to be his favorite, I’d say Nine Inch Nails. It’s heavy, intense, angsty, and complex, and it has some of the same electronic, bass-centered vibes as Shadow’s earlier themes. Compare NIN songs like Discipline and The Perfect Drug with Rhythm and Balance (White Jungle’s theme) and Shadow’s original character theme, Throw it all Away, both by Everett Bradley. Trent Reznor also has a deep voice like Shadow and Bradley do. NIN could do a mean cover of Throw it all Away, now that I think about it...
I don’t think it’s the best idea for canon, even the questionably-canon Twitter Takeover, to cite real people/artists. It’s fine for fans like us to do it, but the official franchise is different. Humans are flawed and complicated. When you start including real people, you could potentially do something awkward like, say...connect your series built on environmentalism with someone who uses a private jet.
Y’know. Hypothetically.
That’s why I love what the social media team did with Hot Honey in The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. A fictional band doesn’t carry that risk, and they’re seamless within the Sonic universe. Fans like us can’t get caught on whether or not Shadow would enjoy their music because none of us can actually hear them.
Funnily enough, your ask aligns perfectly with what makes Hot Honey so cute for these two. Shadow canonically doesn’t like Hot Honey at all:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
No questions asked, no headcanons needed.
The reason he agreed to go was entirely, 100% because Amy asked him to. I think that’s far sweeter than the Taylor Swift thing. And I’ll be able to prove that when I finish writing Sweeter Than Honey. Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about it!
No offense to anyone who does enjoy Taylor Swift’s music, of course. Different strokes for different folks. :)

ShadAmy Week 2024
Hello! So originally, ShadAmy week was going to be in JUNE. However, a multitude of art projects, big bangs, zines, -tobers, and other stuff have come into existence, and the last thing I want to do is encroach on another's space. However, I still wish to run this week and give you guys enough time to do it if you so choose to! As such, POLL TIME!
Please pick a month you would like ShadAmy week to take place in! Note that all prompts for the week will come out THE MONTH BEFORE the actual ship week! (Please not also you DO NOT need to finish ship week prompts DURING the week- it's just for fun.) (In talking about it with a few people, it seemed prompts coming out in July with ship week being in August seemed like the best idea. I am mentioning this only for consideration.) Anyway, PICK A MONTH!
(October is not listed because I got confirmation ShadAmytober will be happening again for 2024.)

For me, Shadow and Amy's dynamic is basically two different types of touch starved in a person
((If any of the gifs on this post aren’t loading for you on mobile--like they aren’t for me--you can download them or check the sources listed. As for desktop, they play just fine, but they won’t line up next to each other like they do on mobile. Tumblr is a comedy of errors.))
Yes! Absolutely. I’ve seen tons of fans say Shadow is prickly and would respond badly to hugs, but canon says otherwise. This is a bad reaction:
Tumblr media
[Sonic 06]
Whenever I feel like being sad, I wonder if Bad-Future-06 Silver has ever been hugged.
This is a bad reaction:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Sonic Unleashed, gif source.]
And I shouldn’t have to say this, but...yeah. These are very bad reactions:
Tumblr media
[Sonic X]
Tumblr media
[Sonic Generations]
Yikes. I feel bad for both of them.
But this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Sonic Adventure 2, gif source.]
This is Shadow’s only canonical hug in the games, and aside from jumping slightly from being snuck up on, he seems to like it just fine.
Tumblr media
Just look at that smile! He’s happy. He finds it endearing.
It was a hug from a complete stranger meant for someone else, but he still drank it in--and, given that he’d effectively just lost Maria, he really did need it. It’s the combination of Amy’s gentleness AND her speech that changed his mind. After all, if someone as sweet as her sees something in the humans, maybe they’re not so bad.
My buddy who runs @shadowxamyweek recently reblogged a post about this hug, and their tags sum it up perfectly:
Tumblr media
[ID: A screenshot of tags on a post. The tags read:
#official art #4kids #shadow the hedgehog #amy rose #YEAH 😭 #listen I read nothing that has happened with them in SA2 as shippy - and i ship them #THIS HUG? THR SPEECH ON THE ARK? #those are two lonely kids #those are two left behind kids #those are two kids so desperate for affection #for two vastly different reasons #Amy loves with her whole chest and will never stop doing so- no matter what happens #and Shadow does too- that is key to remember- Shadow loves... so fucking much... that it hurts #you are RIGHT op when you say this is probably the first time someone has been gentle with him in a long long time #he doesn't even run away #in the game- when Amy flees- he takes a step after her- a moment's hesitation- a 'wait' #this kid NEEDED a hug #and i firmly believe part of the reason Shadow listens to Amy in the end is BECAUSE she is the only person who showed him gentleness #softness and kindness and affection #if only for a moment #fjdodhdofjgor THIS is what i mean when i say 'be gentle- be kind' #it MATTERS #it FUCKING MATTERS
End ID]
Shadow doesn’t hate hugs inherently; it’s just that no one hugs him in the first place...
...aside from one person.
Amy’s easily the most affectionate character in the cast. It’s cute at first glance, but there’s a common thread to every instance that puts a damper on it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She’s always, ALWAYS the initiator.
She puts more into each hug than anyone else does.
She’s always the last to pull away.
The most reciprocated Amy hug I know of in canon is this one:
Tumblr media
[IDW Sonic issue #22]
Which is absolutely adorable...but Amy still initiated. Because it’s always her job. Even the characters who like affection don’t need it the way she does...with one exception.
Tumblr media
And this tiny detail just killed me. The little, “wait, come back 😟”
It’s the only time I know of when someone has actually stepped after her like this. In a game where everyone left Amy behind, he wanted to follow her. Mister so-called-prickly didn’t want the hug to end.
Because he’s the only one who needs it as much as she does.
He wants to be held as much as she wants to hold someone else, and no one else is warm and sincere enough for it. Compare these instances:
Tumblr media
[IDW issue #6]
Sonic thinks Shadow is wrong about something, so he grabs Shadow’s arm to stop him, and Shadow aggressively wrenches it away and leaves.
Tumblr media
[Archie Sonic Universe #23]
But when Amy thinks Shadow is wrong about something and grabs his arm to stop him, he gently removes her hand and thinks about what she has to say.
Even when he doesn’t want to be touched, he makes the distinction between “don’t touch me” and “not right now, please.” These are from two different continuities, of course, but I think the point stands. Amy’s special. He’s gentler with her than he is with other people, and that’s consistent across all canons.
Side note: how often does Amy get to feel special like that? I actually really like that Sonic doesn’t place others in a hierarchy of importance, and I wouldn’t change that about him even if I could...
Tumblr media
[IDW issue #2]
...but Amy does play favorites. I want her to feel like she’s someone else’s favorite, too. I want her to have someone who puts her first and likes her best. I think Shadow’s more than capable of that. I believe he craves clinginess like hers deep down, even if he hasn’t consciously figured that out yet.
I have an entire tag for these two being affectionate. My favorite is probably this one.
Of course, there may be those who say I’m reading too much into one (1) hug. And you know what? Maybe they’re right! We need a bigger sample size. Sega, make more characters hug Shadow, please. Let Rouge comfort him after he confides in her about something. Have Omega give him an awkward metal embrace because he read on the internet that organic beings like that kind of thing. Make Shadow himself pull Silver into a hug when he’s breaking down crying from the stress of always having to be a hero. Show Tails accidentally grab onto him out of fear when they’re trapped in a lightning storm, and when he gets embarrassed and pulls away, have Shadow hold him for the rest of the storm and admit he’s not fond of bright lights, either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Sonic Boom]
That scene where Shadow and Amy rescue Cream and Cheese from Cryptic Castle? That easily could’ve turned into a cute group hug.
Tumblr media
[Shadow the Hedgehog (2005)]
And I have seen some absolutely adorable fanart where he holds Cream’s hand while he and Amy lead her through Cryptic Castle to make sure she doesn’t get lost 🥺
Have Knuckles give him an empathetic bro-pat on the shoulder when he finds out Shadow’s the last one of his race, too.
Tumblr media
[Archie Sonic Universe #89]
Have Sonic try to hug him, and then when Shadow inevitably pushes him away and says he doesn’t do hugs, have Amy arrive and latch onto Shadow instead while he tries to stutter out an excuse as to why she’s allowed to and Sonic isn’t.
The most affection Shadow has in recent history is stuff like this...
youtube
[Sonic Prime season 2 episode 1]
...where Sonic tries to hug him and Shadow immediately pushes him away, knocks him over, and tries to punch him in the face. Kind of says it all. Amy stands out as the only one with a good track record here.
Tumblr media
[IDW issue #36]
Especially when you have him look at her like this when someone else is on the receiving end of that affection.
So in the absence of further evidence, I have no choice but to interpret this in the most Shadamy way possible. Your move, Sega.

Submission #104
While Shadow would much rather hang out with Amy in person, he recognizes that there are times where - due to various reasons - they can’t be with each other physically, which is why he loves being able to give her a phone call or text her. However, he was initially confused by her frequent use of emojis, particularly the cherry blossom emoji and various cat emojis, especially the “laughing cat” and “cat with heart eyes”, especially if she used multiple emojis in the same message. However, over time, he has not only come to accept this as part of her personality, but he even finds it cute that she uses them - especially the cat emojis - though he himself doesn’t use them.
Happy New Year! Blessed be all the Shadamy fans!
--
((Lol, just imagine the raw chaotic potential of those communication breakdowns.
Amy: “Can’t wait to see you tonight! 😺😻”
Shadow, staring down at the phone Amy finally convinced him to buy: “Why two cats? Is she inviting Big and Blaze? Damn it, I thought this would be a date with just the two of us...wait. Is this...a double date?! Sonic said he thought Blaze had a thing with Silver...but...Big, dating?!”
This is one of the reasons I picture Shadow as a Call Me, Don’t Text Me kind of guy. It’s ironic because emojis are one of the best ways to compensate for the missing verbal cues and tone issues inherent to texting. I use a ton of them.))

I saw a while back you were asked what your favorite interpretations of Shadow and Amy were.
While I don’t disagree (haven’t played heroes so can’t comment there, but have beat SA2) I was curious on your views over Sonic 06 version of Shadow? Ignoring the heavy problems with the game itself, I’m personally a heavy fan of the VA and how he acts.
It may be selfish of me… but I kinda wish Amy got more interactions with Shadow instead of Silver. I get WHY they did it, but I feel like it could of been nice to have them reunite and maybe even contrast the end of SA2 y’know?
First post about my favorite Shadow & Amy portrayals, SA2 and Heroes
Follow-up about Sonic Battle and Sonic Chronicles
I love both Shadow AND Amy in that game!
06 Shadow in particular has been getting a ton of interest in the past few years, and it’s wonderful to see. I considered including it in that first post about my favorites. 06 being such a failure gameplay-wise really screwed things up for the series for a long time. Sega learned all the wrong lessons. No more humans apart from Eggman. No more dark, serious plotlines. One-dimensional characters. No playable characters apart from Sonic in mainline games. None of the others can talk to anyone but Sonic. Obviously there were exceptions to this, but the series lost so much. Sonic 06 is older than most Sonic fans, but we’re only just now getting all of that back with Frontiers, IDW, etc.
This would have been bad enough on its own, but coming off the heels of Sonic 06, it hurt that much more. Sega decided Team Dark weren’t friends directly after their most poignant interactions. Shadow knew who he was. He knew what was important. And he knew he could trust the best friends by his side. When’s the last time he was so self-assured? That’s the downside of the 06 timeline being erased in the end. We know Shadow and Team Dark’s potential, but he doesn’t remember any of it.
That said, I’m ultimately still glad it’s erased. I’d hate for Shadow to go through life knowing the humans would reprogram his own best friend to hunt him down and lock him up forever. It says great things about Shadow, but it makes me like the humans a lot less.
It’s thanks to 06 that I consider Shadow to be the biggest hero in the franchise. This clip encompasses everything that makes his heroism unique:
youtube
“If the world chooses to become my enemy...I will fight like I always have.”
Iconic. Badass. I love the way he drops his inhibitors as he talks. This is Jason Griffith’s delivery at its best.
Sonic fights to protect his friends and the planet he calls home, along with the humans and Mobians who all love him, but there are SO MANY people who’ve treated Shadow like filth, and he still protects them. There’s no one else in canon who’s that selfless, and I also like that 06 doesn’t lean on Maria as the reason he does all this. Shadow himself is a good person and does good things for his own reasons, not just because she told him to.
Heroes proved this, too. Shadow didn’t even remember Maria in that game, but he still made the right call. Maria’s important, but she’s not the only reason he’s a good person.
Jason Griffith does a very good job as Shadow here and elsewhere, but David Humphrey is and always will be my favorite Shadow VA. If Jason is an A-rank, David is S-ranked. I’d be thrilled to have either of them back.
You’ll never see me judge anyone for wanting more Shadow/Amy interactions. I’ve thought the same thing with 06, and I love the Silver/Amy bits, too. She has an adorable scene with him AND starts him on the path to redemption. It’s the Amy Rose Special. I also like how she and Shadow inadvertently worked together to turn him around. Amy raised a question Silver hadn’t thought to ask, and Shadow showed him the answer.
But what this demonstrates to me is that this didn’t have to be an either/or situation.
It would’ve been nice for Amy to reunite with Silver and see how he turned things around. They were both there for the final battle, but they didn’t speak to each other. What if they’d had a scene with all three of them together? I hypothesized about that possibility in headcanon #99.
Side note: I just want to say that I think Amy is great in 06. She has the same cute accidental hug/elevator speech combo she used to turn Shadow around in SA2, but people sleep on it in 06 for some reason. On top of that, a lot of fans willfully misinterpret one particular line of hers. And anyone who knows Sonic 06 knows which one that is.
Tumblr media
“If I had to choose between the world and Sonic, I would choose Sonic!”
I’ve seen so many people say she’s a dumb, ridiculous fangirl for this, and I can’t stand it. She’s not saying the rest of the world doesn’t matter, she’s saying that she has so much faith in Sonic as a person that she’d take his side even if the rest of the world said he was wrong. And, uh...she has good reason to! It’s not the first time he’s been falsely accused of something. It’s like these fans conveniently forgot what happened in SA2 the second they saw an opportunity to hurl insults at Amy.
You know what Amy’s line reminds me of most?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Even if you believe everyone in the world will be against you, know that I’ll always remain by your side. Remember that.”
Yeah. That line everyone loves about ultimate loyalty for someone you care about. The line that many consider to be Rouge’s best. The only difference is that Rouge is a calm young adult talking about a friend, while Amy was an upset young girl whose feelings were too big for careful phrasing and restraint. Combine that with how much hate there was for her at the time, and you have a great, dedicated line absolutely drowned in ice-cold, bad faith takes from the fandom. And Silver needed that fervor to make him question Mephiles, too! It had to be her! It was because he saw how strongly she felt about Sonic that he started having second thoughts. You think a calm statement like Rouge’s could have made him back down from attempted murder?
Much like with Shadow in SA2, it had to be Amy. 06 did a great job with her. Some fans still need to wise up about it. They’ve been recognizing how awesome 06 Shadow is, so maybe, just maybe, they’ll do the same for Amy someday.

Do you have any ideas for how Shadow and Amy’s relationship would change if Sonic had managed to get Shadow back on the ark in SA2? I’m working on my own little self-indulgent fic myself, but I’d be curious to hear your thoughts.
Interesting thought! See, this is a tricky one for me because they canonically act like his brush with death never happened, which is super weird.
There should have been a scene on the ARK where Amy was really upset and possibly even cried after it happened, maybe blaming herself for encouraging him.
There should have been a scene in Sonic Heroes where she latched onto him and gushed about how relieved she was to see him alive while he just stared at her like “???” because he still had amnesia.
She should have been the one to reach out and befriend him, and he should have accepted; not only does she remind him of his late best friend, but she’s seen him at his most murderous and still supported him unconditionally.
She should be even clingier with him than she is with her other friends after what happened. She should have been right with him all throughout Shadow the Hedgehog (2005), guiding him and keeping an eye on him the way one would expect given her personality.
And...maybe this is controversial, buuuuut...it’s always felt a little arbitrary to me that he wound up spending a ton of time with Rouge and Omega and basically none with Amy.
I’m not saying I have a problem with Team Dark. I adore their dynamic and I’m glad he has them, but it kind of feels like they just happened to be there. Sure, he got along with Rouge alright for much of SA2, but she seriously hurt him by spying on him--something she’s never apologized for, as far as I know--and she left him behind to help the others get to the Cannon’s Core.
And that, I think, is where the biggest difference would be.
Shadow isn’t the forgiving type. By the time he’d regained his memories in canon and remembered how she’d betrayed his trust, she’d proven in the interim that she’s ultimately a good and loyal friend. If she hadn’t had that chance, I don’t think she could’ve gotten her foot in the door so easily. And if Shadow hadn’t fallen, he wouldn’t have been picked up by Eggman, so he wouldn’t have met Omega. In fact, I’d go even further than that. Team Dark’s opening cutscene in Sonic Heroes implies that Omega’s there strictly to guard Shadow. Not only that, but I’ve always gotten the impression that that’s why Omega was created in the first place. Mephiles all but confirms this in Sonic 06 by pointing out Omega is perfectly built to defeat and capture Shadow.
“This only proves you were created to stop Shadow, the ultimate life form. Don’t tell you didn’t know.”
So Omega would probably never have been built, at least not in his current form :(
With our favorite murder robot out of the picture and Shadow not trusting Rouge, Team Dark would be kaput, and Shadow really needs someone who’ll reach out to him.
And we all know it would be Amy, right?
It’s not even conjecture. In Sonic Battle, she eagerly seeks him out, even getting irritated when Rouge keeps her away:
Tumblr media
On top of that, Amy latches onto Shadow because he’s a hero. I’ve pointed this out before, but the second Shadow becomes the protagonist in ShTH, she’s smitten with him...
Tumblr media
...and the same happens in IDW issue 59:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we can’t leave out The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog:
Tumblr media
The social media team gets it.
She’s got a subtle little crush on him already imo even with the few interactions they have. If Amy spent lots of time with Shadow, that little crush could grow to rival another crush of hers ;)
As for Shadow, if she’d reached out to him right away without the time gap from his amnesia, I think his feelings for her--romantic or otherwise--would have been fostered and allowed to grow, fueled by his gratitude. She changed his entire life and would have introduced positivity and companionship into his world. You can’t not feel strongly about someone who does that for you.
Fandom-wise, Shadamy is already extremely popular considering how little time they’ve spent together in canon. It’s the third most popular game ship on AO3, only beaten by Sonamy and Sonadow.
Tumblr media
There are more fics for Shadamy than Knuxouge. That’s kind of ridiculous, right?! Shadow and Amy have maybe ten minutes of screentime together! I also think Shadow might have gotten along better with Sonic if he’d gone right from saving the world with him to becoming one of Amy’s favorite people, so I’m willing to bet Sonamyshad would’ve skyrocketed in popularity, too. Not my cup of tea, but I know a lot of other fans like it.
Or...more interestingly...Shadow could’ve been really pissed once he saw up close and personal just how often Sonic ran away from Amy. The Dark Era right after SA2 was when it was worst, too. I imagine Shadow would be furious if he knew the full extent of how badly his favorite hedgehog was being treated. He could have been a godsend for her. You think he’d have put up with this if he’d seen it?
Tumblr media
(Tangentially, I think it’s weird that Knuckles was fine with this stuff. I think of him and Amy as sibling-adjacent at times, but sometimes I feel like I have to fudge some details to make it work.)
And how many times did Sonic hurt her or make her cry back in the day?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shadow’s punched Sonic for less than that. He’s way too loyal to sit there and watch while someone hurts his sweet, kindhearted best friend.
People think of Amy as the clingiest Sonic character, but I 100% believe Shadow rivals her in that respect. I really do. He nearly destroyed the Earth for a friend he knew for less than a year. He latched onto Team Dark like a security blanket the second he was dropped on their doorstep. He would have done the same for Amy, and she really could have benefited from that loyalty. Amy lashed out in that era because of frustration and insecurity from being repeatedly snubbed by her favorite person. I honestly think someone stable and steadfast like Shadow was exactly who she needed. He really could have turned her life around and gotten her the respect she deserved, either by standing up for her or proving to her that she deserved better.
And I definitely think he could have dealt with the Black Arms’ invasion much better if he’d had Amy to help guide him through it. She’s reminded him of who he is before. The Miracle of Love ending proves without a doubt that she could do it again.
It would have been great for both of them. I’m sad Sega never let them have that.
Also, Shadow standing up for Amy and later dating her would make this weird scene from Archie #149 absolutely hilarious:
Tumblr media
Granted, that applies to shadamy in general.
Ken Penders & Friends: “Ha, wouldn’t it be hilarious if we had Sonic make a skeevy, totally age-appropriate comment in our kids’ comic about Shadow ‘finding a girl?’”
Shadow: “I found Amy Rose”
Sega: “THAT’S NOT FUNNY”
Sonic: “Idk, I think it’s kinda funny :) ”
Penders: “I have never played a Sonic game”

Headcanon #296
Cross-posted on AO3.
--
Knuckles’s jaw was clenched, and his arms were crossed tightly over his chest. Amy’s bubbly voice floated in from the loveseat to his right. He scowled straight ahead at the wall in front of him instead of looking at her, knowing he’d only get more irritated if he did.
“Sounds like you two had a good time,” Rouge said from the armchair to Knuckles’s left.
Knuckles could see Amy’s head bob excitedly out of the corner of his eye. “Yeah! And then we went swimming by Emerald Coast,” Amy continued. “The water was beautiful!”
“Aside from the orcas,” a low voice added.
Knuckles whipped his head over without thinking. “Orcas?! Amy, are you—”
Knuckles choked on the last word. Shadow was staring back at him, eyes intense and unreadable. He was sitting directly behind Amy on the loveseat, keeping his knees apart so she could sit between them. His arms were wrapped around her midsection.
Knuckles’s eye twitched.
“Don’t worry!” Amy piped up. “Shadow was keeping an eye on me. He had a Chaos Emerald on hand just in case to warp me out of there.” She beamed over her shoulder at Shadow. He grunted and rested his chin on top of her head.
Knuckles looked away. Rouge’s lips were spread into a subtle smirk.
BEEP
Amy jumped at the sound of the oven timer. “Oh! That must be the surprise I mentioned earlier!” She hopped to her feet. “It’ll be done in just a few minutes.”
“I’ll help,” Shadow said immediately.
“Thanks!” Amy offered a hand to pull him to his feet.
Knuckles started to stand. “I’ll come, too.”
“Nope!” Amy interjected. “Someone has to keep Rouge company.” She winked.
Without another word, Amy dashed off toward her kitchen, pulling a willing Shadow along with her. Knuckles sighed.
He heard the quiet flapping of wingbeats and peeked an eye open to find Rouge had perched on the arm of the couch to lean into his personal space. “She’s turning into a real matchmaker, hmm?”
Knuckles tried to relax his muscles. “Some days, I can’t tell if she’s trying to set me up with you or Sonic.”
Rouge made an interested noise. “Now that’s an idea.”
“I don’t even want to know what you mean by that.”
In front of him, Shadow and Amy had just entered her kitchen. She opened up the oven, but Shadow nudged ahead so he could reach in and extract three cake pans from it for her. When he placed them on the stovetop, she gave him a grateful kiss on the cheek. Shadow wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her close, far closer than Knuckles would have liked. He grumbled.
Rouge spoke up beside him once more. “Aww, worried about your little sister?”
“She’s not my sister.”
“You don’t have to be shy about it. I think it’s sweet!”
Knuckles ignored her. Through the doorway to the kitchen, he could see Amy take out a bowl of cream from her fridge and lay out a few other ingredients. Shadow, apparently feeling quite at home in Amy’s kitchen, easily located a large mixing bowl and a whisk. She tossed the ingredients into the bowl and started whisking them together at an impressive speed. Shadow muttered something inaudible in Amy’s ear. She smiled brightly, and he stepped over to hold her from behind, peeking over her shoulder as she worked.
Knuckles felt pain in his jaw, cluing him in that he’d been clenching his teeth. He relaxed his jaw, though he kept glaring at Shadow. “Would it kill him to keep his paws to himself?”
Shadow’s ear twitched slightly, making Knuckles wonder if his enhanced hearing was keen enough to pick up on their conversation. He decided he didn’t care.
Rouge shrugged in his peripheral vision. “Aren’t all new couples like that?”
Knuckles snorted. “I expect PDA from Amy, but Shadow? He never touches anyone! And now he’s acting so...”
“Possessive? That’s because he is.”
Knuckles’s face soured. He whipped his head up to meet Rouge’s easy smile. She seemed far too happy about the situation. “You don’t think that’s creepy at all?”
Rouge scoffed and leaned back. “Not one bit. It’s just who he is.”
Knuckles squinted at her. “What do you mean?”
Rouge’s eyes flicked over to the kitchen. She sighed. “When I first met that guy, he had nothing but the shoes on his feet,” she said, keeping her voice low. Her eyes fell shut. “Gerald, G.U.N...they took everything from Shadow. His freedom. His memories. His identity. Everyone who ever cared about him.” Knuckles could see her jaw clench. “All G.U.N.’s ever given him is a goddamn motorcycle, and he loves that thing. Paints it. Maintains it. Polishes it every single weekend. He won’t even let Tails touch it.”
An unwanted pang of sympathy made itself known in Knuckles’s chest. He crossed his arms and tried to ignore it. “What does a bike have to do with Amy?”
Rouge’s eyes opened slowly. She looked as weary as he’d ever seen her. “I’m saying Shadow’s hardly had anything that’s actually his, and when he does, he keeps it close and takes damn good care of it.”
Knuckles paused. Then, he stubbornly turned up his nose. “Still sounds creepy to me.”
Rouge rolled her eyes. She grabbed his shoulder and roughly turned him to face the kitchen. “Is that really what you see?” she hissed.
Amy stood next to the counter. She’d set aside a bowl of some red, sugary substance, seemingly taking a break to hold a strawberry up to Shadow’s mouth. He took a bite right from her hand. After a moment of chewing and contemplation—far too intense for a strawberry, Knuckles thought—Shadow nodded. Amy’s smile was brilliant. He gazed down at her with an obvious softness in his eyes, then held her closer with the arm he still kept around her waist and kissed her fondly.
As he kept kissing her, though—far longer than Knuckles felt was strictly necessary—the memory of Shadow abandoning him to help Black Doom in Glyphic Canyon sprang to mind. Knuckles turned away. “Well, excuse me if I don’t exactly trust the guy. He—”
He was cut off by Rouge’s fierce growl, and her sharp nails stabbed into his shoulder, making him choke.
“I know you’re not about to trash-talk my best friend right in front of my face,” Rouge snapped, her teal eyes flashing in warning. Knuckles shrank back. “Shadow’s a good man, and he’s saved all of our asses more than once, yours included. He’s more than earned our forgiveness.”
Rouge’s wings were flared out behind her, and her fangs were bared. From his position below her on the sofa, Knuckles was bluntly reminded of why so many people were afraid of Rouge. He nodded slowly, eyes wide.
The glare remained on Rouge’s face for several seconds. At last, it faded, and she averted her gaze. The pain in Knuckles’s shoulder disappeared. He let out a breath he hadn’t known he was holding, and the pounding of his heart slowed down.
Rouge let out a deep breath. After an extended silence, she spoke up again. “Do you really think Amy would put up with that kind of mistreatment?”
“She put up with Sonic running away from her for years.”
Rouge opened her mouth to reply, but then her expression pinched. “...I guess that’s fair.”
Knuckles slumped. He stared down at his feet. He could feel Rouge watching him, waiting for a response. His throat tightened.
“It’s my fault.”
Rouge’s tone was softer than before. “What are you talking about? Sonic’s the one who ran away.”
Knuckles shook his head. He kept his eyes on the floor. “No. We all did it. Sonic was immature, and Tails was just following him, but what’s my excuse? I was the oldest. I should’ve been the responsible one.”
Rouge rested her hand on his shoulder, gently this time, but Knuckles brushed it off and shook his head. “I told myself it wasn’t my business. I had my island and my Emerald, and they had their world, but...” Knuckles’s face twisted. “I abandoned her just like they did. She got kidnapped over and over, and Sonic never learned. He left her behind every time.” Knuckles snarled and punched his palm. “If I’d just knocked some sense into him, if I’d just been there for her...stood up for her—”
“Knuckles...”
His muscles went limp, and his eyes squeezed shut. “I don’t have the right to call myself her brother. Any halfway decent older brother would have protected her.”
He remained there for a while, just staring into his hands.
Rouge’s hand returned to his shoulder. He tried to shrug it off again, but she remained steadfast.
“Knuckles, you can’t blame yourself for all of that.”
Knuckles squinted up at her concerned expression at last. “It’s my fault. Why shouldn’t I?”
“Because it shouldn’t have been your job to begin with.” She shook her head. “You weren’t an adult, you were a teenager. All four of you should have had actual adults looking after you.” He opened his mouth to speak, but she held up a finger to stop him. “Eggman did the kidnapping, not you. And yeah, we all should have treated her better...” She averted her gaze. “Even me...but we were all just kids and teens doing our best out there. Don’t beat yourself up over it, Knux.”
“But—”
“No buts,” Rouge cut in. “Would Amy want you to be so hard on yourself?”
Knuckles paused. He glanced into the kitchen again, only to find Shadow and Amy were out of sight. He searched for a moment, but then he heard Amy giggle from around a corner in the kitchen and say, “You little—!”
Knuckles growled immediately. He was halfway to his feet when a gentle hand pressed against his chest to stop him. He couldn’t help but comply.
“Ah, ah! Down, boy,” Rouge teased, guiding him back down to his seat. “Does she sound upset?”
Knuckles pouted, wishing he weren’t so easily swayed. Amy turned the corner with Shadow in tow. Her mischievous laughter floated back in once more. Knuckles rolled his eyes. “...No. I guess not.”
I definitely don’t like that smug look on his face, though.
“Well, I hate to tell you this, Knuckles, but you don’t have a choice.”
Knuckles glanced back up at Rouge. Despite her words, her expression was playful. “What do you mean?”
Rouge chuckled. “You can claim you’re not Amy’s brother all you want, but she’s still your sister. She’s already decided that.”
Knuckles snorted. “What are you talking about? She’s never said that.”
“She doesn’t have to, hun. It’s all there.” At his skeptical look, she continued. “Why do you think she’s worked to get so strong?”
Knuckles waved it off. “She had to. We all did.”
Rouge crossed her arms and raised a smug brow. “So it’s just a coincidence that she specifically chose boxercise for a fighting style? She goes through a punching bag a week, just like you do.”
Knuckles thought for a moment, then snorted. “Punching things is the best way to fight. Doesn’t take a genius to figure that one out.”
Rouge smirked. “I don’t know about that. My way works just fine.” She extended one of her strong legs and rested it in Knuckles’s lap. His breath caught in his throat.
“That’s not all, though,” she continued. “Haven’t you ever noticed she just so happened to pick a red dress with a white collar? Doesn’t that remind you of anyone...?” To drive her point home, Rouge dragged one finger over Knuckles’s collarbone down to trace the white crescent shape on his chest. He gulped.
With Knuckles stunned, she was free to keep talking. “And haven’t you ever wondered why she keeps her quills down like that? Doesn’t that look familiar?”
Knuckles’s head cleared for a moment, and his attention snapped to the kitchen, where the two hedgehogs were assembling a cake. Shadow was stroking his fingers through Amy’s quills, which were immaculately styled as always to point downward. Knuckles’s heart thumped unexpectedly. “Do you really think that’s why?” he asked, barely above a whisper.
“Mhm,” Rouge crooned. “And she has to use a ton of product to do it, too. Hedgehog quills don’t do this on their own.” She shifted her hand back up to thread into his quills. “She wouldn’t do that if you weren’t worth looking up to, riiiight~?”
Knuckles’s muscles started to unwind. “Y-yeah...I guess so...”
“Sooo...don’t you think it’s time you forgave yourself...and maybe someone else, too?”
It was hard to think with Rouge’s nails gently scratching his scalp. The couch creaked underneath him as he leaned back into the cushions. “...Mmmaybe...”
He could hear the smile in Rouge’s voice as she added, “Y’know, it’s gotta be pretty nice not to have to worry about her anymore.” He tipped his head back and made a quiet, inquisitive grunt. Rouge chuckled under her breath. “She’s strong as hell from emulating you, and if all else fails, she’s got a clingy, overprotective boyfriend looking out for her now. Strong enough to flip a bus. Faster than the speed of sound. Can teleport to her side whenever she’s in danger. Doesn’t that sound nice?”
“Hmmm...”
Amy was putting the finishing touches on the dessert. Shadow swiped a dollop of whipped cream from her cheek. When she looked up in curiosity, he licked it off of his thumb and smirked at her. She held back a shy giggle, and he clung to her once more to press a kiss to her temple.
Even so, Knuckles somehow felt less concerned than before.
When she puts it like that, it doesn’t sound too bad.
Rouge shifted closer, drawing his attention. “That’s half the reason he’s always all over her like this, you know,” she pointed out with a smirk. “No one’s dumb enough to mess with Shadow’s girlfriend. So long as he’s around, no one can touch her.”
Knuckles gazed up at her sincere smile for a moment, unable to argue. She kept running her fingers through his quills, and an unfamiliar warmth washed over him for the first time in a long while.
I’m...calm.
A few seconds later, though, a thought tugged at the back of his hazy mind, and he frowned, suspicious. “If that’s only half of the reason, what’s the other half?”
“You two look cozy,” Amy teased from the doorway.
Knuckles nearly jumped out of his skin. Realizing Rouge was practically sitting in his lap, he wrenched his head out of her hand and scrambled out from under her leg.
Rouge righted herself on the couch and pouted. “So rude.”
Knuckles shuffled over to take refuge on the other side of the couch, running his hands through his disheveled quills and fur to straighten things out. “Hmph.” His face burned while the others laughed. Desperate to change the subject, he fixed his gaze on the dessert in Amy’s hands. “So is that the surprise you mentioned?”
Amy glowed with pride as she presented the triple-layered cake, complete with strawberry drizzle, immaculate whipped cream swirls, and carefully-placed strawberries. “Yup! I think I finally nailed my new strawberry shortcake recipe!” She set the cake on her coffee table and straightened back up. “Let me know what you think!”
Shadow knelt next to the coffee table, plates and silverware in hand. He cut the cake with clean, precise strokes, and soon everyone had a slice.
Rouge chimed in first. “Mmmm! This is delicious, Amy!”
Knuckles nodded. The sweetness of the strawberries was mellowed out by the cool whipped cream. The light, spongy cake tied everything together perfectly. “You’ve outdone yourself this time. I think this might be your best yet,” he said through another mouthful.
Amy grinned and sat down on the loveseat to take her first bite. She squealed and kicked her feet in place. “Oooo, this is perfect!” She swallowed and added, “I’m so excited. Strawberry shortcake is my favorite!”
Knuckles paused in his chewing. “I thought your favorite was soft serve ice cream.”
“It was for a long time,” Amy said. “But then Shadow took me to this cute little bakery in Westopolis. They had the best strawberry shortcake!”
Shadow slid his empty plate onto the coffee table next to her. “Still not as good as yours.”
Amy gaped. “You’re already done?! I’ve barely—”
She cut herself off with a yelp when Shadow abruptly lifted her to sit sideways in his lap. He pressed a kiss to her cheek. “Couldn’t help it. It was delicious.”
She laughed and settled easily into his arms. “You almost made me drop my cake!”
Knuckles stayed quiet while Amy told Rouge about the supposedly indispensable shoe store next to the Westopolis bakery. His focus shifted to Shadow, who seemed content to admire Amy’s bubbly demeanor instead. He held her far more closely than he had to.
He’s too handsy.
Shadow admired Amy’s enthusiasm with unusual intensity.
He’s too fixated on her.
Knuckles thought of Shadow’s past actions, some of which bordered on indefensible.
He’s got a checkered past and takes things too far.
But...
Then, Knuckles’s gaze fell upon Amy—her easy, radiant smile and the fully relaxed state her muscles only reached when she was in the complete security of Shadow’s arms.
Maybe...that actually works for her.
Amy and Rouge kept chatting. Knuckles looked back over to Shadow, who was now staring back at him, unreadable as always.
And it might be useful to have someone around to talk to who’s just as uninterested in shoe shopping as I am.
Knuckles mulled it over. Soon, he found himself thinking of things they might have in common. He was on the verge of formulating a question about martial arts or workout routines...until he caught sight of something on Amy’s neck that definitely hadn’t been there twenty minutes ago.
His blood boiled.
“Amy. WHAT. IS. THAT?!”
All conversation stopped at Knuckles’s outburst. Following Knuckles’s gaze, Rouge burst into a loud cackle.
Amy rolled her eyes. “Oh, grow up, Knuckles. We’re all adults here!”
Every muscle in Knuckles’s body tightened, and he turned his most heated glare on Shadow, the glare that made everyone else wilt.
Shadow’s unreadable face morphed into an unmistakable smirk, and he let out a smug snicker under his breath. Knuckles clenched his fists.
He can stay for Amy’s sake...but he’s still the worst.

((I will tolerate the Sonic Twitter Takeover changing Amy’s favorite dessert if they admit it happened during a Shadamy date. I think that’s fair.))

Submission #103: Yet Another Take On Shadamy (Black Arms Edition Part 2)
((Admin's note: this is a sequel to a previous submission. Both were written by @just-a-guy119, not me. I'm clarifying this now because I've been complimented for these before, but it's their work, not mine. Credit where credit is due!))
--
He doesn't know how she does it, just a few moments ago he was overwhelmed, he'd broken a promise to someone yet again however she easily managed to soothe him…it was an odd sensation…but not exactly unpleasant either…
After his breathing had calmed down Amy ended up letting go of him, along with the warmth that came from her. She leant back against the wall, letting out a sigh of relief as the two just sit there for a minute, trying to catch their breath, Amy still wincing and clutching her shoulder.
"So…part alien?"
Amy breaks the ice as she gets up but winces slightly, she rubs her bandages and realises that she's still in pain but there's not much else she can do right now. After a few moments Shadow follows suit and stands to his feet, stretching slightly.
"Yeah"
Shadow sighs, looking around before the two decide to walk however he continues in a tired tone.
"The Black Arms have come for the Chaos Emeralds…how or why they know of them Im unsure of…but it has something to do with Gerald…"
The ultimate lifeform explains, trying to give as much context as he can to the currently clueless hedgehog who just nods her head, attempting to understand the whole thing before suddenly stopping in her tracks, shadow walks a few steps ahead of her before realising and turning around.
Amy seems to be just standing there, looking at the ground, to say this confused the ultimate lifeform is an understatement, he begins to walk up to the frozen hedgehog, asking what's going on before she speaks again.
"OH CHAOS I FORGOT ABOUT CREAM!"
She shouts to no-one in particular, smacking her forehead and muttering that she's an idiot with shadow taken aback slightly, Sonic had warned him of her tendency to kinda…as he put it…
Explode
…but after seeing it for himself, he agrees…that is a fitting word for it…
"Cream? Like…whipped cream?"
Shadow questions, pausing between each word looking perplexed…Amy looks at him with an angry look before realising something herself, then her facial features soften which Shadow admits looks cute…
"Oh yeah…we never ran into each other during our last adventure when Metal sonic became all kaiju so you never met her…
Im looking for Cream the rabbit, she's a good friend of mine but she's lost here in Cryptic Castle, told me she was looking for Cheese"
She explains, now it was Shadows turn to try and understand as he nods along before he opens his mouth to ask a question however Amy interrupts him.
"By Cheese I mean the name of her Chao, not the food"
Shadow closes his mouth and nods his head finally understanding however Amy quickly asks what he's even doing here, cryptic Castle is out of the way of any major cities and she doubts theres a chaos emerald lying around here however Shadow thinks for a second…
"I'm looking for the doctor…maybe he can fix what control Black Doom has over me"
Shadow ponders as the both of them deciding to speed ahead now, the two keeping pace with one another…
Shadow ponders, ever since he's been with Amy, he hasn't had any flashbacks or migraines about his memories…it can't just be her calming nature though, surely it's because he's away from Black doom so has more control over his thought.
"CHAOS SPEAR!"
Three yellow bolts of light appear from shadow, heading right towards the black arms solders currently blocking the path. Two of the regular solders jump out if the way however the bigger creature takes a direct hit, causing it to stumble back…
"Alright shadow!"
Amy cheers on, jumping up into the air and slamming her hammer onto the alien soldier currently blocking her path. As Shadow jumps up and launches a flurry of punches and kicks onto the remaining black arms soldiers, the bigger one the chaos spear had collided with back up with its purple jagged sword and goes to slash at the currently preoccupied Shadow.
Shadow turns his head and realises he isn't going to be able to react in time so he closes his eyes, bracing for impact however a second later all he hears is a 'clang' sound. The hedgehog opens his eyes to see that Amy intercepted the attack with her hammer and the two are clashing together…to say her strength is impressive would be an understatement.
"H-hurry…i-can't hold it much longer!"
Amy calls out, her body shaking as she falls to one knee, her wound from before burning as she puts strain on her shoulder. Shadow nods his head and quickly finishes off the grunts in front of him before jumping back onto the wall behind him and launching a homing attack right towards the towering Alien, causing it to stumble back however Shadow follows it up by activating the booster on his shoe and unleashing a kick, burning its face as it falls down, this time staying down.
"T-thanks…I swear I'm not usually this weak"
Amy says, wincing as she drops her hammer and clutches her shoulder as her bandages come undone…
Shadow quickly rushes over to her and puts her arm over his shoulder as to help her up, she thanks him as he just remains silent, questioningly giving her a glance before looking around for any way to help her but he finds something…a floating gray box with an antenna on it…it seemed to be moving sporadically but he could hear a voice coming from it…as the monitor turns around hes barely able to catch the doctors face on the end of what seems to be a screen as it flies off to presumably regroup with more of his robots…
Shadow looks down to Amy only to realise she's now unconscious, he grits his teeth and scolds himself for getting distracted, he softly nudges army's head with his free hand but to no avail… he sighs
"Shouldn't have let my guard down…"
As he hurries along, he realises the way he's holding her doesn't allow him to go too fast so instead he readjusts himself and picks her up bridal style… A thought occurs to him…he could use chaos control but its clear normal medication didn't have much of an effect for long and since Amy is looking for her friend, he doubts she wants to wake up in a completely different place…
Shadow skates off, clutching Amy tight as he weaves between Black Arms Soldiers and Eggman's forces attack one another, though as much as Shadow could do, his maneuverability was hindered so eventually his luck ran out in the form of a stray rocket from one of the doctors robots ending up landing right in front of the two.
Shadow couldn't jump out of the way, so instead he quickly spun around and taking the brunt of the blast, sending the two flying off the platform that connects the towers they had been traversing together.
As they're falling, Shadow looks down and notices a small interior area and decides he's going to need to land there…though before he can readjust himself he goes flying right through the roof head first, still clutching onto Amy however as he crashes in the center of a room, his hold of Amy breaks as she goes flying out if his arms, tumbling to the side as Shadow is send back into the wall, cracking it…
"Ugh…"
After a few moments Shadow lifts himself up and rubs the back of his head in pain now having a headache linger on and his vision blurred before quickly glancing up at the incoherent mess which seems to be an unconscious Amy…As his vision quickly sharpens he sees someone else, a small cream coloured rabbit in an orange dress tending to Amy's wound…
"Cream the rabbit I presume…"
Shadow says in a small groan before standing up and looking around, finding that the three of them seem to be in a storage room…
"Um, yes I am…You must be Mr Shadow"
The kind young girl quickly bows before helping Amy with her wound as Shadow walks over and helps her…
"No need for formalities, have we met before? I don't seem to recall you and you know my name"
Shadow says, G.U.N had been adamant of removing all records and traces of Project Shadow and anything linked to it so not many people know of his existence.
Shadow pulls out an emerald whilst Cream is finishing up replacing the bandages that Amy had previously…
Shadow then hovers his hand, holding the green chaos emerald, over Amy's wound as he closes his eyes with the rabbit standing back. After a few seconds a small gust of wind emitting from Shadow with his quills fanning in the wind as the emerald begins to glow green, suddenly a small aura forms around Amy's wound before it disappears and Shadow let's out a deep breath…
"Um…no Mr Shadow we haven't met. Though Amy does like to talk about you a lot"
The younger girl giggles with Shadows chest feeling strange and his face feeling warm, luckily the young girl hadn't looked up to notice the warmth forming on his muzzle however it quickly cools down…
"Don't put it like that Cream….you make it sound…obsessive…"
Amy suddenly stirs awake, slurring her words as the two help her lean upright…
"Amy! You're okay!"
Cream cries out and pulls her into a hug, causing Amy to wince but also embrace it before the two part, suddenly the pink hedgehog calls out in surprise.
"Wait Cream!? How did you find us?"
Amy questions in surprise, however as before shadow can respond, Cream says that the both if them came crashing through the roof with Shadow mentally facepalming. Amy quickly turns to Shadow with a smile.
"Thanks for looking after me, I promise I won't be a burden again"
Amy says, feeling slightly guilty however Shadow shakes his head.
"You needed help, there's nothing wrong with that. You're not weak or a burden for relying on others sometimes"
He says, the three of them standing to their feet with the ultimate lifeform clutches his head. The headache not going away was strange, his healing factor would've dealt with it by now but instead his vision is blurred, only able to stay upright by leaning one hand against the wall beside him…
"Mr Shadow! What's wrong?
Cream asks with shadow shaking his head as his vision steadily comes and goes from sharp to blurred, Amy then looks to cream and asks a question.
"You sad we crashed through the roof right-"
Amy points towards the hole in the roof however Cream shakes her head
"No, Mr Shadow shielded you, I think he might have a concussion. My mum has taught me alot about medicine and injuries…that's how I knew to bandage you up"
Cream says proudly, still worried about Shadow.
"I'm fine…I just-I need a moment…"
Shadow says, readjusting his balance again before needing the wall for support as he begins to internally ask questions …why is he suddenly unable to stand straight…is it something to do with black doom?
Amy looks back at Shadow and looks at him eye to eye, squeezing his hand to reassure him before asking something…
"Could it have something to do with why your eyes are now yellow?
Something clicks in his mind…
"Black Doom must've made a failsafe in case he lost control of me…the Doctor might be able to help me get rid of it…"
Shadow says, looking at Amy with determination as he forces himself to stand straight as he walks ahead…alone…
"It's going to get dangerous, you two should leave"
He says looking back at the two before he continues
"I don't want either of you hurt…thanks for your help"
He finishes and attempts to walk off however both Cream and Amy rush over with the pink hedgehog grabbing his hand, causing a wave of warmth and calmness to fill his body.
"Oh no you don't Shadow, we'll deal with this together…plus we still need to find Cheese"
Amy says, more so demanding with a level of conviction that impresses him however he smirks…
"Yeah, you helped us so now we will help you! Thats what friends are for"
Cream excitedly says, with little to no fear in her voice, even upon seeing Aliens and Eggmans army battling right outside. Shadow lets out a small smile before his usual expression reforms.
"Fine…Rose I know you can handle yourself but Cream, listen to me at all times…"
Shadow sternly says with Cream nodding her head in excitement, Amy however feels a small blush creep upon her face upon the name he gave her…
Rose…
Cream glances at Amy looking completely shocked with a red face and giggles quietly before Shadow takes off, the two following behind at a moderate speed, shadow slowing down to allow the other two to catch up…

Yep, here's part 2. Honestly it had been so long since I wrote part 1, I kinda forgot where I was gonna go with this short story since I ended up losing my notes for this small oneshot so I've kinda had to make it up as I go along.
Most stories I've read about shadamy tend to focus on Amy's perspective, there are a few that focus on shadow hence why I've decided to focus this story from Shadows perspective though next chapter I do want to do it from Amy's perspective as it'd make more sense now.
From what I remember my original plan was to have this kinda "slot in" to a potential "definitive" route for shadow the hedgehog (the game) however my main goal for this "chapter" specifically is to kinda calm things down as last chapter had a lot of action from tonnes of perspectives and different locations.
Next chapter should pick up the pace quite a but this was mainly to allow the character room to breathe.
As for where I've been…life…responsibilities, all of that annoying stuff we gotta deal with.
Anyway next part should be the final part (let's hope it doesn't take a few months to release)

((Admin's note: well done! It's good to have a breather. I like the way Shadow's insistence that Amy shouldn't feel bad for needing help parallels Amy's insistence that he shouldn't have to be alone, either. I can absolutely see Shadow feeling like he needs to go it alone while not realizing the irony of not wanting others to do the same. I see Amy the same way, so it's really nice that they have each other. They need that.
Thank you as always! And don't worry about taking your time. I'm sure you know how long it took me to get around to sharing this. Life gets busy!))

Submission #102
Nowadays, Shadow is very polite, perhaps not in the same way as Cream, but still a gentleman, nevertheless. However, he easily gets disappointed and/or angry if people are rude to him, and he even once threatened somebody who did something to him that he found especially rude. Amy had taken notice of this and assured him that his feelings are valid, but reminded him that he can’t always expect other people to be polite all the time and that getting angry over it isn’t worth a prison sentence. Since then, Shadow’s not only used various coping techniques to calm himself down, but he vowed to keep being polite because he likes when Amy tells him how proud she is of him.
--
((Aww! Love the thought of Amy stepping in here, especially considering her own history of anger and violence. If you think about it, the biggest difference between them in that regard is damage output. Amy’s lucky her temper cooled before she became terrifyingly strong. It’s no surprise that some characters were scared of her, even in the Classic era:
Tumblr media
[From Fang’s literal nightmare in the official Sonic Superstars: Trio of Trouble animation.]
“This isn’t worth a prison sentence” would definitely be an Amy line. I love it. Reasonable. Nonjudgmental. Hilarious. She’s seen him at his worst and knows he’s worth the intervention, and she knows how to get through to him.
Shadow’s politeness is worth more than that of other characters because it has to be earned. He’s not going to be nice to those who don’t deserve it. I kind of like people like that. You know where you stand with them.
On the other hand, one thing I like making him do is belatedly tacking on “please” in a clumsy way once he starts spending more time with Amy, like he forgets to do it but decides it’s important when he sees her smile.))
Submission by @bearfoottruck in case tumblr removes credit. Thanks for the submission as usual, and thanks for the kind message you sent yesterday! ^_^

How did Rouge and Omega react when meeting Rosie the first time? Did they know Shadow wanted a Chao? Also, does Shadow let them babysit Rosie when he is away on solo missions or would he rather let Amy or Cream take care of her?
((I am so glad you asked! I’ve had the ideas in my head for ages, but they’re not Shadamy-centric enough to fit into a headcanon, and I wasn’t sure whether anyone would be interested!
Cross-posted on AO3.
Shadow first adopted Rosie in this story.))
--
Rouge shifted the shopping bag in her hand so she could fish out the spare key she’d held onto after moving out of Team Dark’s apartment. Just as she was about to unlock the door, she heard a muffled sound from inside. She listened for a moment, and then her eyes bugged out.
That almost sounds like...a baby?!
She double-checked the text Shadow had sent her earlier that day.
> Need your help with something. Visit when you can.
Shortly followed by,
> Please
Rouge narrowed her eyes at her phone. That doesn’t explain anything. Why would he have a baby?! She scratched her chin. Unless he’s had more luck with Amy than I thought.
She shook her head and opened the door, then put away her keys and strode into the living room where the noise was coming from. “Shadow, I’m not a babysitter. If that’s what you’re asking, then—”
“Bah?”
Rouge stopped halfway into the room. Shadow was seated on the couch, while Omega stood in front of him. Both of them were preoccupied with a small pink Chao who was sitting in Shadow’s lap. The Chao was gazing up at Rouge, its emote ball forming a curious question mark.
Rouge stared at the bright pink Chao for several seconds, then turned her unimpressed gaze toward Shadow. “This is just Amy in Chao form, isn’t it?”
“No,” he snapped immediately. The Chao glanced up at him and cocked its head, and Omega’s exhaust sputtered in amusement. Shadow glared at him.
Rouge crossed her arms. “Oh, really? So what’s its name?”
Shadow growled quietly. “Her name is...”
He paused for a moment, then snapped his mouth shut and looked away. Omega’s exhaust sputtered again, louder this time. Shadow grumbled.
Rouge smirked. Oh, this is gonna be good. “Well...?”
Shadow grimaced and shut his eyes. “She’s...Rosie.”
Rouge tried—and failed—to hold in her laughter. It burst out of her in a loud cackle. “HAH!” Omega joined in.
A plaintive whine came from Rosie’s direction at the loud noise. She was holding her head, and her eyes were squinted shut. Shadow instantly leaned down to whisper some calming words in her ear. He glared at Rouge in silent warning.
Rouge sighed and sat down on the couch, placing her shopping bag on the floor next to her. “So when did the little bundle of joy get here?” she asked, trying to keep the sarcasm out of her voice. “I knew you liked Chao, but I didn’t know you were adopting one.”
Wouldn’t surprise me if he was waiting until I moved out.
Shadow idly scratched under Rosie’s chin. “About three weeks ago, I was talking with my therapist about some of my...” His nose wrinkled. “...insecurities. I told her about my purpose and how pressured I felt to protect the Earth. She suggested I might feel more fulfilled if I took care of something smaller.” Rosie cuddled up to Shadow and nuzzled his side. He smiled wryly. “Looking back, she was probably thinking of a houseplant, but I stopped by the Chao shelter on my way home and adopted Rosie.”
Rouge’s heart warmed. Thank God I set him up with that therapist. She’s been a godsend for him. “That’s really good advice.”
Shadow’s expression was unusually soft as he gazed down at the Chao. “It’s been...nice.”
Rouge looked down at Rosie. Her face was painted in a perpetual smile, not unlike her namesake. Rouge reluctantly grinned back.
I have to admit she is pretty cute.
Rouge shook off the sentiment. “So why did you drag me down here? Please tell me it’s not to...” Her gaze flicked down to Rosie, then back up. “You know what.” Her eyes narrowed.
Shadow pressed his lips together, then looked away. “G.U.N.’s sending me on a solo mission. You’re the only person I can trust with this.”
Rouge massaged her temples. I can feel a headache coming on already. “Shadow. I. Don’t. Babysit. You know I can’t stand babies, Chao or not.”
Rosie let out a soft noise and tilted her head, almost sounding...sad? Rouge frowned. She didn’t...understand that, did she...? She scoffed. Of course she didn’t. She’s just a Chao. Rouge shook her head. “There has to be someone else. What about Cream? She’s good with Chao.”
Shadow was already shaking his head. “Cream has Cheese. Rosie doesn’t get along well with other Chao.”
“AH?!” Rosie squawked, indignant.
Shadow crossed his arms. “Don’t give me that. You know I’m right.” Rosie pouted.
Rouge glanced between the two, then scoffed. She doesn’t play well with others. Just like her dad. Her face hardened. “What about Omega? He’ll be here. He—”
“...Has knives for hands,” Shadow argued.
“SHADOW. YOU MUST RECONSIDER. I HAVE PREPARATIONS IN PLACE.”
“No.”
“I HAVE DOWNLOADED THE CONTENTS OF OVER ONE THOUSAND PARENTING BLOGS. I AM READY.”
“No.”
Rouge glanced between the two. She pursed her lips. I guess I can’t argue with him there, but... She smirked. “How about Amy? Don’t you two have joint custody yet?”
Shadow scowled, and his ears turned slightly red. He sighed and shook it off. “Rouge, it has to be you. You’re the only one who’ll see through her tricks.”
“Tricks?”
Rouge heard an intrigued noise at her feet. “Huh?”
“Oo!”
Rouge looked down, only to see Rosie had somehow gotten into her bag and extracted one of the bracelets Rouge had just bought. She’d already looped it around one of her tiny wrists, and she was giggling and playing with it.
Rouge choked. “You little—!” She reached down and tried to take the bracelet back, but Rosie proved difficult, holding it behind her back and eluding Rouge’s hands.
“Rosie,” Shadow warned.
The Chao ignored him and hopped into the air to try and get some distance. Rouge lashed her hands out and grabbed her. “Gotcha!”
The moment she did, however, Rosie’s lower lip trembled...and she burst into tears. Rouge flailed and hurriedly placed her down on the couch. Rosie bolted and hid behind Shadow, shivering and whimpering.
Shadow sighed. He turned away from Rouge and bent down to comfort Rosie. “Shh, shhh...it’s okay. You’re alright.”
Confused, Rouge looked up at Omega. His eyes were glowing more brightly than usual. His cooling fans whirred loudly, a sign that he was irritated with her, almost seeming...protective?
Rouge cringed and looked back at Shadow. Instead of picking Rosie up as most people would do with a crying Chao, he was holding her paw and scratching under her chin again. Rouge bit her lip and waited.
After about twenty seconds, Rosie’s sobs had died down to sniffles. Shadow sighed and turned back to Rouge, his eyes a mix of tiredness and disapproval. “I know you didn’t mean it, but Rosie doesn’t like to be held or touched by people she doesn’t know. You need to be careful with her.”
Rouge tried not to grumble. I haven’t even agreed to this, and he’s already telling me what to do. But...
Rosie was peeking back at Rouge past Shadow. Her eyes were still wide and tearful, and there was real fear in her expression. Rouge’s chest tightened, and an emotion that felt a whole lot like guilt crept into her heart.
It’s not like it’s my fault! Everyone knows Chao love to be held, this one’s just...weird.
The thought didn’t make her feel better. Her expression pinched. She deliberated for a moment while the Chao’s tears subsided, then sighed and reluctantly mumbled, “I...won’t do that again, okay? I’m...” She grit her teeth. “I’m sorry.”
Out of the corner of her eye, Rouge could see the little red light on Omega’s chest plate that indicated he was recording audio. She glared at him.
I never apologize. Ever. And now he’s got a recording of it. He’s going to play that back ten times a day, isn’t he?
Rouge’s attention was brought back by a quiet whine from the couch. Rosie stared up at her for a moment, then climbed up over Shadow’s legs. She tentatively crept closer to Rouge. Apparently deciding it was safe, she held up the bracelet for her.
Rouge’s eyes widened. “You’re giving this back to me?” Rosie nodded. Rouge plucked it from her hands. “Oh...thank you.”
The red recording light on Omega’s chest plate was lit once more. Rouge grumbled internally.
I never say ‘thank you,’ either. And now he’s got that, too.
But then the bright smile returned to Rosie’s face, shining through again past her reddened eyes, and it was almost worth it. Rouge’s heart melted, and she just barely held back a fond smile.
Rosie toddled back over to Shadow’s side. He instantly leaned down to scratch under her chin and held her paw again. “Great job, Rosie. Good girl.” She nodded, pride evident on her face. He paused and held up a finger. “But no stealing, alright? That bracelet was hers, and you know it.” Rosie pouted for a moment, then nodded and gave a toothy smile. Shadow’s eyes narrowed in suspicion, but he scratched under her chin again.
Rouge squinted. It’s always under the chin. I wonder if she doesn’t like being pet normally.
When Shadow sat back up straight, Rosie plopped down next to him. She still held onto one of his hands, but she was sucking on her other paw.
Rouge inclined her head toward Rosie. “I thought adult Chao grew out of sucking their paws. You’re not going to tell her to stop?”
“I’m not going to stop something that isn’t hurting anyone,” Shadow said. “Rosie does some things differently. This is fine. Stealing isn’t.”
Rouge pursed her lips. “She seems...”
“She’s got strengths and weaknesses, just like any other Chao,” he stressed, holding Rouge’s gaze firmly. Rosie looked up at him, and he showed her a rare smile before looking back up at Rouge. He turned serious again. “I don’t know exactly what her first owner was like, but...” His jaw clenched.
Rouge winced. Oh...
“Rosie’s been through a lot,” Shadow continued. “She’s smart and gets herself into a lot of trouble. It’s not just stealing. She’ll run off or hide from you, and she gets into all sorts of places she shouldn’t. She can fly and climb, too.”
As if to reinforce his point, Rosie started climbing up the back of the couch. “Careful, Rosie,” he warned.
“Bah!”
Rouge peeked over her shoulder as the Chao crawled past her, then squinted at Shadow. “This sounds like a lot for one person.”
“THIS TASK WILL BE SIMPLE WITH MY RECENTLY ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE!” Omega insisted.
Rouge raised a brow.
“He can help you track Rosie down with infrared if she gets away from you,” Shadow explained.
“DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE MY SKILLS AS A PARENT! I HAVE ALREADY RESEARCHED THE MOST ADVANTAGEOUS COLORS TO PAINT A CHILD’S BEDROOM. MINT GREEN IS THE IDEAL CHOICE FOR A CHAO OF ROSIE’S TEMPERAMENT.”
“Anyway,” Shadow muttered, holding a hand to his forehead, “there are some other things to watch out for. Like how she can pick locks.”
Rouge opened her mouth, then stalled out. “Wha...no. Absolutely not. No way.” She paused, then side-eyed him. “...What kinds of locks?”
“For starters, anything with a combination.”
Rouge snorted. “No. You cannot convince me a Chao can read numbers.”
Shadow scratched his chin. “I don’t think she actually reads them,” he mused. “She just waits until the lock’s open and memorizes the shapes and where they are. Like they’re symbols.” Rouge scoffed, and he added, “Anything that opens with a key won’t work, either. She’ll just steal the key.”
Rouge smirked. “Well, I have to respect that, at least.”
“I’m glad to hear that.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re no exception.”
Rouge cocked her head, and he nodded past her. She turned around to the armrest behind her and gasped, scandalized.
Rosie sat on the armrest, casually chewing on one of Rouge’s keys. When she saw Rouge was looking at her, she snickered.
“You—how the hell did you get those?!”
“LANGUAGE, ROUGE. A CHILD IS PRESENT.”
Rosie leapt into the air and flew over Rouge’s head. Rouge tried to reach for her, only to whip her hands back and growl when she remembered what happened last time. “You—give those back!”
Rosie ignored her and fluttered past Shadow to hide behind him once more. She peeked at Rouge and hid a giggle behind her paw.
Rouge crossed her arms and clenched her teeth. Shadow looked down at Rosie, and his face turned stern. “Rosie. Those aren’t yours, and you know it.”
Rosie looked between the two of them. She pouted for a moment...and then burst into tears once more.
Rouge held up her hands defensively. “What did I do this time?!”
Shadow held up a finger, then crossed his arms and locked his gaze on Rosie. She quieted down after a moment. He shook his head, then glanced up. “Omega?”
“ANALYZING...” Omega pressed a button on his wrist. After a moment, it turned red. “FALSE TEARS DETECTED.”
Rouge’s eyes widened. Shadow glared down at Rosie, who gave a fake, guilty smile through her tears. Shadow shook his head. “You’re not fooling anyone. That won’t work in this house.”
Rosie shrank back down. She grumbled and wiped away the last of her tears. Rouge stared, baffled, and Shadow sighed. “Rosie can—and will—cry if she thinks it’ll get her what she wants. She has some tells, but until you get the hang of it, Omega can tell you when she’s faking.”
Omega saluted. “NEVER YIELD TO AN ENEMY’S DECEPTION. PERFIDY IS A WAR CRIME AND MUST BE PUNISHED ACCORDINGLY!”
Rouge squinted down at Rosie. That’s actually pretty clever...not that I’ll admit it.
Shadow kept eye contact with Rosie, retaining his look of disapproval. After a few seconds, Rosie gave up and hopped back to her feet. She dragged her feet as she returned to Rouge’s side and held up her keys.
Rouge huffed and took them back. “Honestly, haven’t you heard of ‘honor among thieves?’” she muttered. The keys were slightly wet from where Rosie had been chewing on them, making Rouge’s face twist in disgust.
By the time Rosie sat back down, the “innocent” smile was back on her face. Shadow didn’t let up. “Don’t look so proud of yourself,” he muttered. Rosie scrunched up her face but didn’t object.
Rouge scratched her chin for a moment, then smirked. “Hey...y’know, she’s got real potential. Good mobility, lockpicking, theft, deception...”
“You’re not taking her on a gem heist.”
Rouge clicked her tongue. “Aww, but she’d be so good at it! She’s a natural!”
Shadow let out a sharp exhale. He held a hand to his forehead. “That’s exactly what I’m worried about. I need someone like you to look after her because you’ll pick up on this stuff.”
Rosie was gazing up at Rouge again, still showing her adorable smile. Rouge narrowed her eyes.
Shadow’s right. This Chao would walk all over Amy and Cream.
Omega’s triumphant voice cut in, surprising all three of them. “COMPATIBILITY ANALYSIS COMPLETE. ROSIE’S BEHAVIOR BEARS A CLOSE RESEMBLANCE TO ROUGE’S!”
Rouge choked. “Oh, no. No, no, no, no, NO!” She could hear Shadow trying to hide his own laughter, and Rosie’s emote ball morphed into an exclamation point. Her tiny tail started wagging, just as Amy’s often did, and her smile widened a little, somehow looking more sincere than before.
Rouge scowled at Omega and crossed her arms. “No. Just NO.”
“NEGATIVE. TENDENCIES SHOW SIGNIFICANT OVERLAP. PROPENSITY FOR TRICKERY AND MISCHIEF. CLIMBING AND FLIGHT ABILITIES. COVETING AND THEFT. LOCKPICKING. MANIPULATION. STEALTH. FAMILIAL BOND WITH SHADOW.”
“Oh, come on,” Rouge interrupted, rolling her eyes. “We already agreed she’s a miniature Amy. They’re the spitting image of each other,” she pointed out. “Why do you think he chose her? She’s bright pink!”
“I didn’t adopt her because she’s pink!” Shadow snapped, making Rouge and Omega jump. Rosie whined quietly, and he leaned down to comfort her, whispering words of apology.
Rouge’s heart softened. She waited for Rosie to calm down, then asked, “So why did you choose her?”
Shadow glanced up at Rouge out of the corner of his eye, then returned his gaze to Rosie. His jaw tightened.
“Because she needed me.”
Rouge and Omega remained silent. He continued. “That shelter was—” Shadow’s face darkened. “They couldn’t give her the support she needed. They were...keeping her in a cage.”
Rouge could see the way Shadow was gritting his teeth. His eyes burned with rage, just as they did at any injustice. Her heart ached.
Shadow took in a deep breath, then sighed heavily. “People who didn’t know what they were doing kept adopting her, only to bring her back. Over and over.” Rouge could see his hands shaking. “No one was willing to put in the work and help her.”
Rouge’s eyes drifted down to Rosie, who was gazing up at Shadow. It wasn’t hard to imagine workers just pushing her off to the side, not having any idea what to do with a Chao like her.
Rouge decided not to think about it.
Shadow held his mouth open, then clamped it shut. He looked back up at Rouge at last. “I adopted her immediately. I had to. They...” He shook his head, then choked out in a pained whisper, “I...couldn’t leave her there. I just couldn’t.”
Rosie whimpered. A frown of concern appeared on her face, and she started climbing up Shadow’s torso, only stopping once she was tucked under his chin. She hugged him and nuzzled his chest fur.
Shadow’s face spread into a tiny, genuine smile. He reached up a hand to hold and support her.
This time, Rouge couldn’t hold back her fond smile.
He needs her just as much as she needs him.
Rouge stared for a long while, deliberating. Finally, she let out a long, reluctant sigh. “You’d better start writing, then.” Shadow cocked his head, and Rouge smiled wryly. “I’m guessing this little one comes with instructions.”
Shadow’s eyes lit up. He sighed deeply and half-smiled, letting out a quick laugh. “Thanks, Rouge. I won’t forget this. Omega?”
“AFFIRMATIVE. NOW PRINTING SCHEDULE AND GUIDELINES.”
Rouge’s gaze snapped to Omega. Her eyes bugged out as three full pages emerged one by one from a slot on his chest plate. Shadow immediately launched into an explanation, drawing her attention.
“A few quick things—as you can see, Rosie doesn’t like being held unless she initiates contact. She won’t eat on the floor. She feels more comfortable sitting on a chair instead. Spot her when she climbs up to make sure she doesn’t fall. She eats diced square fruits seasoned with a dash of nutmeg and a dusting of cinnamon. She needs to play outside twice a day, but she doesn’t get along well with the other Chao yet, so you can’t take her to the Chao park. Instead, make sure you...”
Rouge’s eye twitched. Chaos, she’s as finicky as he is!
“Wait,” Rouge cut in, holding a hand to her forehead. “How long is this mission, anyway?”
“Two weeks,” he replied. Rouge’s jaw dropped. Shadow’s nose wrinkled. “Well, closer to thirteen days...and I’ll keep my communicator on at all times,” he continued, oblivious to Rouge’s terror. “I can sneak out at night and teleport home for an hour or so, but I can’t risk more than that.”
As Shadow kept ranting, Rouge’s eyes drifted to Rosie. She was still snuggling under Shadow’s chin, but she’d turned her head to watch Rouge’s expression. Rosie let out a quiet giggle, apparently picking up on her distress.
Rouge narrowed her eyes. I’m already regretting this.
--
((By the end of the two weeks, she adored Rosie anyway. Amy and Cream picked up the slack more once Rosie was properly trained, but Rouge found she didn’t mind filling in every once in a while.
As for how Omega reacted when he first met Rosie, he immediately started scouring the internet for how to raise a small creature, even though he didn’t really understand the ins and outs of parenting. Or Chao. Or anything squishy. But he knew she was important to Shadow, so she became a priority by extension. It started out like this...
Tumblr media
...but over time, it grew into sincere fondness:
Tumblr media
...especially once Rosie stopped lashing out at other Chao and Shadow raised her power stat. Omega was impressed that something so small could be so strong.
P.S. I wanted to finish that story I promised before I posted anything else, but I’m a bit stalled out on it, so I’m going to answer some asks in the meantime. Some of these have been here for an UNGODLY amount of time—sorry!—and I want people to know I’m still alive.))

Headcanon #295
Amy’s parents gave her a deck of hedgehog-themed tarot cards for her sixth birthday. It quickly became one of her most prized possessions. Even before she learned to read them properly, she adored the beautiful, intricate artwork of each card. Her favorite was the one titled “The Lovers,” which featured two hedgehogs holding hands and gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes. One of them looked remarkably like herself, even sharing her pink fur and green eyes, and the other was dashing and intense in a way that drew her in.
Shortly after meeting Sonic, Amy excitedly showed him the card, pointing out the similarities between him and the male hedgehog and claiming it must be a sign. Sonic wasn’t buying it. The fur looked too dark to be his, he argued, and the quills in the picture had an upward bend that his lacked. Amy pouted, but she decided the resemblance was close enough and chalked up the discrepancies to “artistic license.”
Then, she met Shadow.
He later asked why she’d looked at him the way she did when they’d first locked eyes, saying it looked like she’d seen a ghost. Amy’s face flamed. She sputtered an excuse and hid that card from him for years, vowing never to give him a tarot reading with that deck for fear that it would come up.
Sonic thought it was hilarious. He never let her hear the end of it.

It’s kinda cute to see that Bark has a canonical crush on Amy (in the newest comic if you haven’t seen). She’s such a magnet for the stoic, hardy, initially antagonistic types lol. How do you think Shadow would feel to know that Bark was crushing on Amy before anyone else?
In reference to this interaction in IDW’s recent comic for her 30th anniversary:
Tumblr media
It was also made apparent in Sonic’s 30th anniversary comic:
Tumblr media
Looks like IDW took a cue from Archie and re-canonized Amy’s tendency to get cold easily. Sonic never took the hint...
Tumblr media
...but it’s free real estate for other Amy ships. A+.
The bigger question is why a polar bear needs a scarf in the first place. Maybe I’m not supposed to ask that.
Anyway, I wouldn’t say it’s 100% confirmed that it’s a crush. No one ever says it is. He might just think she’s a sweet little girl. Panels like these make it seem like he just thinks she’s a nice kid, like a little sister. You could easily substitute Knuckles in for Bark here:
Tumblr media
Blushing is usually used to indicate a crush, but not always. It can also be used to show embarrassment. I personally think he’s just shy because he’s not used to being hugged and hearing things like this:
Tumblr media
It’s not surprising that Bark has a soft spot for her. He’s very strong and hangs out with Fang’s group, so a lot of people assume the worst. On top of that, he’s nonverbal, so he can’t really argue against it. She’s the only one who gives him a chance off the bat.
It’s also more appropriate if it’s not romantic, given their implied age gap. I’m glad Sega removed the official ages, but even without exact numbers, I’d be very surprised if an official Sonic publication made an older teenager have a crush on a child. If they did, I think Shadow would hunt him down, lol. I have a headcanon about him going after Storm about it, but Storm actively makes himself a problem. Bark isn’t like that.
Even if another stoic and quiet character developed a crush on Amy, though, I don’t think Shadow would be jealous. I usually imagine Shadow hiding his feelings for Amy, and this is the same situation. He doesn’t act on it. At most, I could see them exchanging a subtle nod of acknowledgement.
Tumblr media
They’d just both have good taste. Shadow might have to get used to it, but after that, I doubt he would see a character like that as a “problem.”
Shadow also might just flat-out appreciate Bark. It’s always a relief to have someone else who makes her safety a priority. Even when Bark and Amy “fight,” he outright refuses to hurt her:
Tumblr media
(In case anyone needs more evidence that blushing isn’t always romantic in this comic, Amy’s blushing right there in panel three. Something tells me she probably doesn’t see this as a romantic situation.)
And when they’re on the same team, he keeps an eye on her to make sure she doesn’t rush into danger and get out of her depth:
Tumblr media
I made a post recently pointing out that Shadow might have helped Amy out in Cryptic Castle because he also notices she rushes into situations she can’t handle alone. She’s a danger magnet whose first ever appearance was getting kidnapped, and it was a long time before that stopped happening. We need more characters who’ll keep an eye on her. I can imagine Shadow and Bark pointing to situations like these and looking at each other as if to say, “Ah, so you’re the reason she made it to adulthood unscathed.” They’d see each other as allies, not competition.

ShadAmy tabletop wargaming when?(Also do you play Bolt Action yourself?)
I’d never heard of Bolt Action before you mentioned it, so no, unfortunately. The closest you’ll find to tabletop wargaming on my blog is Headcanon #267, where Shadow is playing a tabletop RPG similar to Fire Emblem. It’s a fun one.

THE PROMPTS FOR THIS YEARS SHADAMYTOBER!
I will like to add that “cute spooky” counts as “spooky”. It doesn’t have to be a complete horror theme. It just means the idea should stay close to the idea of the Halloween spirit.
Thank you to @suna1suna1 and @killingthecringe for helping with this.
Sunai made the prompt list graphic by the way!
Also check out @silvamytober if you are a fan of Silvamy! They also have an event going on!

How do you feel about soulmate AUs, and what is your favorite variation? Symbolic tattoos, timers, red strings, first words, ect? Do you have any headcannons, preferably about the above variations? Sorry if this was asked before.
I do like soulmate AUs, though I haven’t read many. Amy would love them, wouldn’t she? I don’t have strong feelings, but I guess I’d lean toward first words if I had to pick. I’ve read some pretty funny ones about that. It’d be interesting to apply it to Shadow and Amy in canon. It might make Shadow more antagonistic toward Sonic if “Oh, Sonic! I thought I’d never see you again!” was printed on his wrist in that context, especially if she still had a crush on Sonic despite all evidence. Just...ouch. Amy would have “It’s all going according to plan” on hers. She probably wouldn’t have guessed they’d be on opposite sides of that plan. It would give their ARK talk a different flavor, that’s for sure. The things she’d learn about him are, in this order,
This man doesn’t mind hugs.
He wants to murder everyone on Earth.
He’s my soulmate.
That’s soap opera material right there.
Or Amy could have the insignia of the Black Arms on her as a soulmate symbol. She’d have no idea what it was until the aliens attacked, but then she’d see it on Shadow’s motorcycle, of all places. It’d be funny if she didn’t connect the dots at first and tried to interrogate him to figure it out. Meanwhile, he could’ve figured out the rose on him immediately, so he’d just be staring at her like, “Really now?” 😑
If you want to read a really good shadamy one about red strings, I’d highly recommend Pull the String by killingthecringe!
