I love(hate) when people's take on the Emerson debacle is "Nancy is such an inconsiderate bitch for forcing Jonathan to go to the same college with her"
When like for starters we never actually saw the conversation that led to that decision? And does that even sound like her to force him?
And two what about Jonathan wanting Nancy to stay at a shotty job where the men heckle and belittle her and are belligerently misogynistic in s3? Like he literally was down playing how horrible it was. Telling her to hang in there?
Nothing on that scene that we actually saw? Yea he gets to do what he loves-blah blah-but like morals or something idk.
Anyways, the fact of the college debacle is we blatantly see Jonathan lying/withholding information on his college decision. Good intentions do not excuse that.
The men do not listen to her when it matters that's all I will say.

I saw a comment on another post about how fans of Daenerys (and those who also support TB) cannot accept criticism of Daenerys' character and go overboard with our love for her.
This statement is entirely false. Daenerys fans do entirely accept Daenerys' flaws and criticism to her character- so long as the criticism is done properly and makes sense. We only go against criticism when said criticism entirely misconstrues Daenerys' character in a false and gross way. Bending the text of the books or even early seasons of the show as an excuse to "criticize" Daenerys is obviously going to be ignored because it presents an entirely false narrative. The ones who do this mainly are Daenerys antis/Sansa stans/Jonsa stans. Most critical points/metas they make against her can be disproven (and have been many times) by reading the text of the books and analyzing Daenerys' show scenes early season before her character became entirely ruined by s8.
Daenerys fans do accept criticism of Daenerys and we do acknowledge her flaws. But the difference is that those who do criticize her often tend to paint her out to be 'evil' or the main villain for ASOIAF/GoT, when she isn't. Daenerys, like every other character in the ASOIAF series, is a gray character. Us fans see and know this. But Daenerys antis only look at her through a lens of black-and-white, which is an issue of itself, considering she isn't meant to be viewed that way. The reason why us Dany fans/stans go against criticism of Dany so much is because it's often wrong and entirely out of proportion, in which we make counter points/arguments backed up with actual textual evidence from the books or scenes from the show. The criticism against Daenerys isn't just critically analyzing her as a character, it's blatant hate and often misconstrued to paint her in a light that makes her seem worse than she is.
When we look in the world and setting of ASOIAF/GoT, Daenerys' actions are just like any other character in that world, only not as extreme, and when she makes the decisions she does within the books she questions the choices she's made and thinks heavily over them.
When you look at the men of ASOIAF and GoT, their actions are in line with/far worse than what Daenerys has done. Tywin has eradicated an entire house, slaughtered countless people, treated his son with disdain for being born a dwarf, etc. Robb executed a man for going against his orders. Jon killed a child (despite the child having taken part in his murder- it was still a child) and is much darker in the books. Tyrion has fantasies of violence towards Cersei, expects Sansa (a child) to want him when they're wed, etc. Robert nearly slaughtered and eradicated an entire House, laughed over dead bodies of children, r*ped Cersei often when drunk, etc. Ned executed a deserter of the Night's Watch. And we all know how terrible Euron and Ramsay are in the books/show.
And yet Daenerys receives more hate than these men over her actions, is viewed more critically, and is 'criticized' far more than said men. Which is unfortunately driven by misogyny. The difference between Daenerys and the men of ASOIAF is the fact that she is a woman. If she were a man, I doubt her actions would be so heavily analyzed and torn into by antis. Anyone could say that isn't true- and yet, it's evident in the way Daenerys is heavily hated and discussed most over compared to anyone else who has done far worse compared to her.
It's not the fact that we don't accept criticism over Daenerys. It's the fact that us fans have to always constantly defend her over hate that is unjustified to her character. Is it even so wrong that we show love and support to her character anyway? I'm sure everyone else does that for their own favorite characters as well and deny criticism to them often if the criticism is actual bullshit over a valid critical and neutral analysis. Why is it so wrong for us fans to do so?
A blog I will always recommend that actually does amazing metas character analysis- @rainhadaenerys.

This "analysis" is so funny. "In Rhaenyra's bastards arms" " Luke had laughed at Aemond's pain" LMAO. Good for Luke.
Aegon wasnt just hitting on Baela but sexually harassing her - before and after where Rhaena had to keep her back.
TG stans are so obsessed with the idea that the greens are some kind of united family. They cling to the idea that Helaegon isn't an abusive and loveless marriage, that Aemond loves Aegon soooo much, and Aegon gives a shit about anyone other that himself.
Even the show, which whitewashes TG every chance they get, shows how divided they are. Aegon bullied Aemond constantly and Aemond contemplates getting rid of Aegon for the throne. Helaena suffers marital rape and is completely miserable every scene she's in with the exception of when she's alone with her children or when she danced with Jace.
It's no wonder they hate TB and Rhaenyra's family so much, they are an actual loving family. Rhaenyra loves her children and treats them gently, they never doubt her love once. Jace, while sometimes hard on Luke, would die to protect him and loves him dearly. Luke isn't ever jealous of Jace or angry about him being "undeserving" (mostly because Jace is actuallg a good person). Even Baela and Rhaena are loved and respected in the family.
The reason why TG stans always go back to the legitimacy of the Velaryons is because it's the only "issue" in the Blacks' family. That's why they want Daemon to hate his stepsons, Baela to resent Luke, and Rhaena to feel insecure about her place. They project their favs' issues on the Blacks because there's nothing good or healthy in the Greens' family.
Luke laughing at the pig isn't some kind of evil crime, he was six when that prank happened. Not to mention the fact that Aemond was going to either kill or severely injure Jace on Driftmark. Aemond has made no secret of his hatred of Luke and his brothers, he doesn't owe Aemond anything.
Aegon stans always will minimize Aegon's actions. Whether it's denying that Aegon was a rapist in F&B or saying he was just hitting on Baela, they'll never actually accept how shitty he is. Baela looked disgusted and angry when he was talking to her and Jace warned him off peacefully. Aegon didn't do that for any reason other than that he's a disgusting pig who wants to insult both Baela and Jace.
Helaena is treated as a child who doesn't understand the situation she's in by TG stans. That's the only way they can excuse how much she enjoys dancing with Jace. Helaena is an adult who is painfully aware of the encroaching war, but admitting that means acknowledging how much she hates Aegon and mistrusts Alicent.
Aegon and Aemond hate the Velaryons because they view them as subhuman because of their parenthood. Alicent raised them to believe bastards are unworthy of life let alone inheritance. The fact that Jace is farther up the line of succession than Aemond infuriates him. Jace being loved and respected by his parents despite who his father is angers Aegon who is disliked by all his family (with good reason). They don't believe the Velaryons are worthy to be in the Red Keep let alone eat with them.

BG3 Companions and the Abuse Cycle / Trauma - Astarion
It has been itching in my fingers to write an analysis about the main cast and their trauma (responses). As it happens, Baldurs Gate 3 stumbled into my life at the very time in which I began my trauma recovery, and as such seeing the very struggles I go through represented so well in the game, it will forever hold a dear place in my heart. Alas, enough about me, I will begin my analysis with Astarion, because his trauma (response) is the most like mine, followed by Karlach.
Astarion
From what I can gather of his background, his dialogue, and his actions, Astarion's greatest traumas stem from being controlled and sexually, as well as physically abused. Ever since he had become one of Cazador's Spawns, he had no say about his own life. He was a plaything to be messed with. His opinions did not matter, they were mocked and ridiculed. His boundaries didn't exist to Cazador, neither sexual nor moral ones. Astarion had to live feeling powerless for centuries, made to use his body as a tool for his vampiric abuser.
But that changes when he gets infected by the tadpole. For the first time in so many years, Astarion can make his own choices, can feel in control over himself and his own body. And he relishes in it!
He doesn't want to hold back anymore, he wants to experience everything that was denied to him; The rush of being your own master not being held back by moral obligations, judgments, or most importantly his very nature as a spawn, any longer, is intoxicating.
But Astarion is at the beginning of his trauma recovery journey and suffers from Cazador's bad influence still. So, Astarion doesn't know how to set proper boundaries yet, he doesn't know how to respect other's boundaries either and he enacts what his abuser did to him onto other people. He says he doesn't care about saving others, finds killing fun, and finds hurting other people entertaining if it gives him an advantage. And why? Because this is how Astarion learned to be powerful! Nobody has been kind to him for centuries, or respected a simple word like "No". It's been a big fight, his life is "kill or be killed".
His relationship with his "siblings" is also interesting in that context. He was Cazador's "favorite", reminding me of a Narcissist's golden Child. So even experiencing a healthy relationship with the other spawn was denied to him and this shows as well, as he pities them but he is willing to throw them aside if it means he will gain power (over them).
And if you let Astarion ascend and don't set a good example in his life, by simple respect of his boundaries, he will not break the cycle. He will become Cazador, he will become the abuser.
Now, in contrast, if you respect Astarion's wishes, if you don't force him to do things he doesn't want to do if you stop him from ascending, it is interesting to see his reactions.
For example, if you don't involve yourself with the Drow twins, and read between the lines, recognizing Astarion being uncomfortable, you can see the relief in his facial animation and hear it in his voice (props to the voice actor!), being glad that you are respecting his wishes. Or if you don't rat him out to the blood alchemist in Moonrise Tower (i forgot her name, sorry!), he will be surprised by someone respecting his boundaries for the first time! All those actions change him for the better, the change culminating in his final romance scene - in the case you are dating him - where he will openly state how you showed him that he has a voice even without being all-powerful and abusing others. That you changed him.
Astarion's trauma journey is about learning to set boundaries and using the freedom he has without at the same time becoming what he hates. Astarion's trauma response is fight!
And I find both of these awfully relatable.
There is honestly so much more I want to write about him, but I will save this for another post.
If you want to see where I am going with this about Karlach, await my next rambling post!.

what if i said "but I would die for you in secret" but imagine merlin and arthur.
peace lyric analysis as merthur:
"Our coming-of-age has come and gone
Suddenly the summer, it's clear
I never had the courage of my convictions
As long as danger is near
And it's just around the corner, darling
'Cause it lives in me
No, I could never give you peace"
OUR COMING-OF-AGE?? okay, listen. as we know, arthur's coming-of-age moment is linked to his coronation. He literally has an episode called "The Coming of Arthur" parts one and two (S03 E12-E13). it's arthur becoming king and merlin starting to finally feel like he's getting somewhere with their destiny because of arthur's crowning. this is our setting. we're now in the after.
"I never had the courage of my convictions as long as danger is near" SHUT UPPPP SHUT UPPPP like actually oh my god. as long as danger is near is so so sick and speaks so loud. merlin absolutely does have the courage of his convictions and just to clarify, collins dictionary [colin morgan ;) ] states it as the confidence to do what you believe is right, even though other people may not agree or approve. BUT when arthur is in danger he does not do the "right" thing. he listens to the giant lizard instead or gaius (still love him) and does anything, anything, to make sure arthur doesn't get harmed no matter what.
rip morgana and getting poisoned.
rip mordred's entire existence.
although arthur attracts danger, merlin attracts just as much. and merlin is magic. (ugh, I'm getting sad and the only reason i won't cry is cause i'm in the middle of a lecture. a nighttime lecture). merlin can never give arthur peace because he is everything arthur was conditioned to hate. arthur can never give merlin peace because he's a king with expectations from Camelot and neighboring kingdoms. aka they can never be peacefully together without the threat of danger from them both and towards their relationship.
"But I'm a fire, and I'll keep your brittle heart warm
If your cascade ocean wave blues comes
All these people think love's for show
But I would die for you in secret
The devil's in the details, but you got a friend in me
Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?"
merlin lights arthur fires. that's it. that's the tweet.
merlin is also arthur's closest friend and confidant. he definitely gets arthur to see other perspectives on a situation and makes sure he remains compassionate and fair. for example, that look arthur gave merlin in S05 E11 during kara's trial?? my god. or the episode where arthur killed that one king's son under the influence of his uncle, the sleaze.
THEY WOULD DIE FOR EACH OTHER IN SECRET. NO ARGUMENTS. they've proved episode after episode again that they would no questions asked. people who don't know them just go "he's just a servant" or "you would choose him over your kind?" (ouch) not knowing the depth of their relationship. but yes. yes they would. and they would not have a single regret. they would deny the hell out of it but the proof is in their actions.
but you got a friend in me yes ma'am they do.
and it would be enough. it would. do they need a reminder that they were both born in mind of each other? that it was written since the beginning of time? that both of them have their own personal demons that instead of running away they'd take care of each other instead? that they're the most important person for each other and nothing can split them apart because they've grown to trust each other so much that their souls have intertwined? two sides of the same coin? other half of my soul, as the poets say???
"Your integrity makes me seem small
You paint dreamscapes on the wall
I talk shit with my friends
It's like I'm wasting your honor"
from arthur's pov he knows merlin is better than him. the way he interacts with people, his morals and values, his humbleness, just everything really. he pretends to be mad and upset about it but there's such deep admiration in it that he's actually self-aware.
dreamscape (google) definition: a landscape or scene with the strangeness or mystery characteristic of dreams
arthur finds merlin so strange!! so strange and mysterious.
the walls: i read this one fanfic on ao3 called "The Tragedy of Godhood" by Lilmia_Casand (read it!! it's so good. short, but beautiful) and the summary states:
"Merlin had gotten better at controlling his magic over the years, but it still spilled over, as if he were the source instead of someone calling upon it. It seeped into the castle walls, into the stone floors..."
This was the first thing I thought of (this quote stuck with me, it got bookmarked) and i couldn't have said it better. here's a play by play: arthur lives in a castle. the castle has walls. a lot of walls. he sees these walls everyday. the walls are familiar. the walls stay. the walls are forever. he can't imagine the castle without his walls.
walls = life/the future
magic is part of merlin's mystery because he's essentially hiding HIMSELF.
(does this make sense? no, prob not but bear with me)
there's an air about merlin where when you think about him, you realize you actually don't know much about him. he's a mystery. you know his jokes, you know where he's gonna be at whatever time of day (not the tavern, contrary to what arthur thinks), you know his favourite food. you don't know about his parents, you don't know why he saved arthur at his first feast, you don't know why he stays around.
arthur reflects on this and realizes it one day when merlin starts to become unavoidable in his mind. then he thinks, 'i really know nothing about this boy.' over time, merlin stays by his side, always, and arthur is so dependent on him that he starts worrying if he'll ever leave and if not him, camelot (he has abandonment issues 100%).
also see: S01 E10
hence, "you paint dreamscapes on the wall" is arthur saying, "you're the biggest mystery i've ever met and you make me wonder what every day will be like with you. will you be here tomorrow? and the day after that? until I'm married and have children who will favour you over me? will you be here to see them? to see me? i can't see it through the haze. i can't see you through the haze."
moving on—fuck that was so much longer than it needed to be—arthur and merlin talk shit about each other ALL THE TIME it's hilarious. and they know the one "bad" thing they talk about doesn't define their entire character because they hold each other in such high regard but... well...
(they definitely have regrets after)
"And you know that I'd swing with you for the fences
Sit with you in the trenches
Give you my wild, give you a child
Give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other
Family that I chose, now that I see your brother as my brother
Is it enough?"
they both go all out for each other but with a focus on merlin, he goes ALL. OUT. it's war with him. nothing is half-assed. he fights, and fights, and never takes it less than seriously. but he also is there at arthurs lowest moments. when they're losing and when arthur is feeling too much or has too much on his shoulders. he's there. through it all.
merlin will give arthur anything he asks. he's already given him the purpose of his life and has hidden his magic until arthur's dying day because he thought that's what arthur needed and thought he would never accept him as he is so he gave it up.
but he's also given arthur the best thing he has. a friend. understanding. communication without words. souls recognizing souls, so much that the silence may be quiet but words are being exchanged through that same silence.
also, speechless eye conversations that range near the line of sexual tens—
then in the last line, merlin is saying: your people are my people. your burdens are my burdens.
"But there's robbers to the east, clowns to the west
I'd give you my sunshine, give you my best
But the rain is always gonna come if you're standing with me"
this goes both ways!! the only difference is that arthur's is visible and merlin's is hidden. explanation: arthur no doubt has enemies, it's not a secret. being a king and a target from the magic community, that man is almost getting killed everyday. it is not a peaceful life. he knows that. but nonetheless, he has shown merlin his best before—merlin is literally the reason he reaches the best person he can be, like the growth omg—so he knows he can give it but he knows there's a lot of baggage (external and internal) that comes with being with him.
as for merlin, his enemies are a secret. and they're dangerous. arthur faces some of those same enemies but from the product of what they've created, not them personally. no, merlin goes head-to-head with the people who curse/try to kill arthur. and he gives arthur a version of his best (he still has to keep many many secrets) but even if it's limited it's still genuine. although his secrets, his late nights, and his pure exhaustion are a part of him as well. and you can't have sunshine without rain.
okay ,WOW, i'm wrung out. it feels incomplete so i might add additional things later on but for now, enjoy.
once again, thank you if you read this, thank you bbc merlin, and thank you taylor swift.
(notice how i didn't use the word love once)

Idk content creators on all platforms give their account as a free breeding ground for JM antis. I've seen videos filled with Jimin hate but zero action from account owner, that's what happens when you give followes, clout and likes more importance that artist you apparently love and stan. I have a youtube account with a video hit 1M+ views. I have Jimin, Jikook, Jikook analysis edits which WILL invite all sorts of Jikook antis but still I filter all comments DAILY and delete/block antis. It's not at all difficult for me to be accountable for the contents i put out and protect the artists in that video. I dont even leave it in channel thinking some other jkk will give them answers, it's just a click of delete button. Simple.
I've been asked by that breed why I'm deleting their comments and I delete that too lol. So I don't understand how these so called ot7 channels are giving a platform for antis without a guilt feeling.
Because deep down they also hate Jimin.
Tumblr media
If u truly are ot7 it would hurt you to see people shit on a member and u wouldn't prioritise engagement and views over that. Especially on copyrighted shit where u aint even making any money. Thats why I love this dude.
youtube
He is proper ot7 and definitely a Jikooker. He acts like he's not a Jikooker, but he definitely is. 🤭🤭
Because he reacts to other members, its not just Jikookers who visit his channel. So when he reacted to letter
youtube
The comment section was full of JK solos talking about how Jimin needed JK and used him for clout. Right. On a hidden track that wasn't even on streaming platforms. That makes sense ig 🙄🙄
Anyway, loads of antis showed up. I know this because I was all over that comment section fighting them. N Of course some other people too. You know what he did? Exactly what u just said. He deleted all the negative rude ass comments. Each and every one of them. Yet he still left those of us who were replying so some comments were not making sense and I found that so funny 😂😂😂 (he never deletes "shipping" comments either. Sometimes even likes them 🤭)
Idk what the situation is rn but I remember at the time being so impressed and wondering why more people don't do this shit. So anon you are right on the money with that one, for sure.
It would be so easy to deny antis a voice but I'm not sure what OT7 even means anymore 😒

The risk of being forcibly labeled as pro or anti something is why discussions on racism in works on both of a character and meta and textual and literal level get shafted so easily.
Also personally i do despise pro/anti divides for every damn thing, it juvenile as nick said, it's needlessly polarizing, and in all honesty what the fuck does it mean to be "pro" a show ship or character or "anti" a show ship or character? Those labels make sense for being pro and anti abortion, for instance, because that is a real phenomena with real impacts and material harms and means of being actionable about them. If you're pro abortion you march, you legislate, you organize in favor of abortion rights. It's a legitimate position with legitimate philosophy to back it up.
But when people apply something like that to fandom, it becomes not about ideology but about frankly very trivial things like ships or characters or groups in a tv show. The neverending pro/anti Jedi debate comes to mind, along with a worrying lack of nuance and painfully obvious lack of a "solution" to the stance that doesn't negatively affect the interpretation of every other event in Star Wars or outright justify/deny genocide (or that doesn't baselessly accuse the "other side" of believing the Jedis genocide to be okay).
Now that basically any and all critiques about fandom get shoved into oversimplified positions of being pro or anti fandom (or the things within fandom), people (especially Black people) get forcibly labeled as activists of varying types, especially by racist white people who then want to criticize our activist actions as if they're in any position to be doing so. What also happens is that people think critique for something = outright hatred for the thing, to the point where if hypothetically given the power, the assumption is that the "anti" would zap the thing they don't like from existence.
Ive had this issue with tbb stans who take my critiques of it's racism as a personal issue that can only be resolved by destroying the show -- basically, I'm "anti tbb" even though I think that's a weird way to position anyone's opinion about a text when the critique in question is about racism. I've joked about just cancelling the show before of course, but I've also quite plainly stated that if the series wasn't super whitewashed and wasn't ableist and wasn't antisemitic, I'd be a fan of it (mediocre writing aside). For years my position hasn't been "cancel the show" it's been "change the show".
This difference isn't taken into account by people who can only view any opinion through strictly black and white lenses of supporting everything something has to offer (and thus seeing no issues in it, at least not serious ones) and hating everything something has to offer, and thus thinking it needs to be scrubbed from memory rather than fixed. This has led to even hardcore tbb stans being terrified of critiquing the writing in the show (not the racism) because people so frequently leave no room for critical analysis of any kind that doesn't reaffirm and support what's being presented in the series (or what's support by the fandom, even if not by canon).
I've been flipping back and forth between racism and gen critiques. For the record, me personally I'm not pro or anti anything. I have my opinions, i understand nuance, and there's definitely shit that i hate that I'd rather not see. I've never once subscribed to that model of fandom interaction outside of maybe (MAYBE) tagging something anti tbb, and that was more for engagement and for the sake of the tbb stans who somehow keep following me.

Here, have this shitty, ancient Chisaki origin analysis I wrote bc I lack content (I just babble throughout the entire thing)👍
His origin: We really don't know a whole lot about his childhood. We see him at quite a young age on the streets, dirty, seemingly homeless during the scene where Pops (the Boss before Kai) takes him in. We also have another scene in the flower garden where Pops is getting onto Kai after he got into a fight at school, then Pops patting Kai on the head and thanking him for sticking up for the Yakuza. With those flashbacks we could make the assumption that Kai had an ok childhood, he seemed to have a good relationship with his adoptive father figure, was getting an education, lived in the large Yakuza compound, etc.
So then why did he end up so messed up? Why is it that there are so few good memories of Pops shown? If their relationship was as good as Kai talked about it, then why wasn't there more to show? Like the little things, helping with homework, playing ball, watching movies, saying goodnight and being tucked into bed, hell, we never even saw Kai smile. There was only those two memories of being taken in and patted on the head. Which leads me to believe Kai didn't have all that great of a childhood. I believe Kai was deeply emotionally neglected, which is why he felt such a strong need to repay Pops, so that he could get that same recognition that he got that one time in the flower garden. Kai craves Pops' attention because Kai loves him. Who wouldn't crave the attention of those they love, especially when it's been denied over and over again?
Later one in Kai's adulthood, we see Pops getting onto Kai for disobedience and breaking Yakuza rules by selling drugs. Kai defends himself by saying he was doing it for the greater good of the Yakuza, so Pops sorta let's him off with a warning, telling him not to "stray from the path layed out before him." This is the same way Pops dealt with Kai after he got into a fight at school, Pops didn't agree with Kai's actions but also didn't discipline him. This is a type of neglect, and it teaches a child that they can get away with anything unpunished, and in Kai's case, with praise. Discipline is a crucial part a child's upbringing, it not only teaches them what not to do in the future, and why they shouldn't, but also how to discipline themselves as adults. You know that little voice in the back of your head that tells you to eat an entire package of Oreos because they're so delicious? Do you know what stops you? The voice of your childhood discipline. "You know, I'll just eat a few and heat up some leftovers if I'm still hungry," or, "No, you fat fart, you've already had your daily almond!" Whether it was healthy or unhealthy discipline it still stopped you from making a dumb decision. That is the reason people don't give into dangerous impulses, like drug abuse or alcoholism, and Kai very obviously hasn't been taught that.
Real quick; no, the undisciplined adults I'm talking about aren't "Karens," those people are undisciplined children that could change their parents answer with whining. Those are egotistical mega narcissist, I believe Kai is a sociopath, but back to the point.
In that same scene, Pops says something along the lines of, "I know you're just trying to thank me for taking you in, but you always take things too far." Insinuating that situations like these have often happend throughout Kai's upbringing. For each time Kai was "gotten onto," he also got what he craved, attention.
Skip to after Kai puts Pops in a coma and starts using Eri for drugs, that character was his facade. Overhaul I mean. We see his real self during prison break. Kai isn't full of himself like the way Overhaul is represented (not as much, anyway), Kai hates himself. He feels unworthy of care, unworthy of a home, unworthy of a family. That's why he cares so much for the Yakuza, he wants to feel worthy of having it. That's also why he hated being called "Kai Chiskai," he no longer wanted to be himself, so he threw Kai away and became this Overhaul character that felt worthy.
I hypothesize that this is also why he dislikes Eri, because he feels unworthy. I've seen things about Kai seeing himself in Eri, and since he hates himself, he let's all that hatred out on her. I think that's part of it, but not all. I think there's a bit of jealousy in there. There's no proof, but maybe Pops was very loving to Eri because they were blood related, and maybe he wasn't as close with his daughter, so he decided to make up for it with Eri. Maybe she got that parental attention that Kai craved from the beginning; the bedtime stories, board games throughout the day, late night ice-cream. So when Pops ordered him to figure out her quirk, he felt like a pawn, a man who worked for Pops, and no longer a son, he felt replaced.
Maybe after Pops' daughter left that's when he found Kai, maybe Pops always claimed Kai was her replacement. That Kai filled a hole in their family and that made him special, that made him needed. So when Eri came along, his place in the family was threatened. He was loved, he was the bosses son, he was the hier, he didn't want to leave another family, he didn't want to be replaced, and in his experience in the yakuza he's seen how easy it is to be replaced. So, Eri had to go.

Right on! I honestly do not understand why people say things like "We gotta humanize eggy by making him less evil" . Eggy is already a very human character. Selfishness and greed have been human traits ever since caveman Grog bashed his neighbour Tharg's head in with a rock and stole his wife, meat and fur.
Eggy is a great example of what happens when a human just lets their selfishness, greed and ego run wild.
Exactly, being evil is very human. The dark parts of humanity and the human mind has always fascinated me both in real life and fiction, morbid curiosity and my passion for writing characters believing in and doing things that I never would, and the challenge that comes with seeing from different perspectives that improves my skills as a writer, are all things I hold dear. It has inspired years of learning, analysis, creativity, and writing for me.
I don't want to pretend we live in a world where everyone is secretly good. There is abhorrent evil in this world and it can and should be fictionalized just as much as the good that equally exists. I also don't want to pretend that the human mind's, beliefs, feelings, and desires are always pure and well intentioned deep down in every person. The mind can be a dark place in many ways too. My mind is and I don't want to hide that in shame.
Just because my mind is one way doesn't mean my actions reflect it, just like how some people's actions won't reflect their mind either. That's also interesting to me to explore through learning about it and fictionalizing it. I like to see what dark minds like mine can create too and it's just as valuable. I wish people like us weren't shamed and told that we can't create and share our passion and our work just because it doesn't have conventional goodness.
There are many inherent human traits and feelings people in fandom (or holier than thou people in general) like to pretend don't exist, like they're above it and say it shouldn't be explored in fiction. But they're in denial that they're things we can all feel. Goodness, love, kindness, anger, envy, confidence, desire, self love, empathy, etc, exists in humans but so does evil, hatred, cruelty, anger, malice, jealousy, arrogance, greed, selfishness, apathy, etc.
Love can become dark and selfish or be replaced by hate. Kindness can be replaced with cruelty. Anger can become malice. Envy can become jealousy, confidence can become arrogance, desire can become greed, self love can become egotism, multiple of these things and more can have selfishness in them too. We're all capable of feeling these things even if we don't, and they can't seem to accept that and deny it, especially regarding characters.
It's common for people to deny these things are human, it's why they say those who do horrible evil are "inhuman/monsters/animalistic/etc". They don't want to believe and accept that they're human like us. That we could be like them. Humans can be vile and wretched and deeply evil just like they can be good. You can be one or the other or both. Many times they can overlap but at the same time, I don't agree that nobody can ever be truly fully evil.
You can absolutely still be a truly terrible person if you do "good" things and you can do "bad" things while still being a truly good person. Good intentions can show in bad ways when they become harmful and toxic and bad ones can appear good in manipulation or delusion. Acknowledging THAT is what nuance is, not pretending we're all exactly the same and must all have certain assets apply to us or were incomplete, unrealistic, or boring.
Humans can be so many different things in so many different ways but those can be very good or very evil. It's possible for only the good or bad things to apply, or a mix of both. That's why I like putting characters into good, neutral, and evil. The real world isn't only good and neutral and fiction shouldn't be either. Embracing and exploring the evil too is the true excitement and challenge of writing. You need this skill, that's what it takes to be a good writer.
I like how Eggman reflects the true evil in humanity that very much does exist. It's not unrealistic, it's just his out of this world crazy methods that are. But I wish people didn't forget his evil, anger, malice, cruelty, sadism, rudeness, apathy, ruthlessness, egotism, selfishness, greed, dark desires, destructive tendencies and crimes are all very human. We're all capable of that. We do feel at least some of those because it's so human.
That powerful message has existed in Eggman from the very beginning. He's not representing all humans being bad, but the very real evil and dark part of humanity that exists and shouldn't be denied or sugarcoated. Pretending that what he's doing is actually good/has to have originally good intentions behind it/have him change into a better person to "fix" him or give him nuance, takes away from that message and removes what makes it interesting and clever.
Eggman being evil, egotistical, and egotistical is what leads to his evil acts, cruelty, desire for power and control and the awful things he'll do to get it while enjoying it. That's the causation and we're told over and over by the writers, the bios, the character and stories themselves. They do not imply that it comes from a good place in the games and this isn't bad or unrealistic and certainly not "boring". It's intriguing and has tons of potential.
Humanizing Eggman is acknowledging and accepting that he's all these things while still being human, dehumanizing him is denying he is these things or saying he's inhuman for it. I'm actually humanizing him, those who act like humans must all tick the exact same boxes are dehumanizing him. It should also serve as a reminder that we could all be like him, we're all capable of that darkness and evil if we have the will and decide to act.
And I always enjoy exploring and writing characters who do, especially when seeing how far they can go because it's just fascinating. It's also fun to take on the challenge to write a character with such a different perspective and experiences than my own and it helps improve writing and characterization skills without personal feelings or bias influencing how you write that character and straying away from accuracy. That's very important in good writing.
Eggman has very human traits and feelings, they just exist in very evil ways in him, which is just as realistic and should be represented and explored too. It's also absolutely possible to develop and humanize him even more without going purification/bettering/redemption/downplaying of his actions or putting sympathetic sad reasons or good intentions behind what he does. It can be done without losing what makes him unique and himself.
Sega/Sonic Team/official writers seem to know what they're doing with Eggman in the games even in Frontiers, by him still very much not being a better/less evil person or suddenly morally gray, he's a bad person and even the "good" things are rooted in selfishness and ego. It's just that some don't understand because they think there's only one way to humanize bad guys further and deny they're human in the first place just for being evil at all.
Everything isn't just good and evil but it is still absolutely possible to just be good or evil as much as both or somewhere in between. I don't want to pretend it isn't. The approach they've had to Eggman's further humanization, though he was already very human in the first place, is good because it's more interesting and nuanced than the majority of fandom is making it out to be. I'm looking forward to them making that especially clear in the future.
And I mean in main game stuff specifically, as they've actually already been doing it in all official media since Frontiers in IDW, Murder of Sonic, even Minecraft and it's great. He's still very much evil and not a better person and I'm so happy about that. But I can't wait until it's in a main game again so misconceptions about Eggman's portrayal in Frontiers that go against the writers stated intentions will be cleared up even more blatantly.
And of course as usual I'm also just really excited to see what kind of glorious diabolical evil the handsome devil gets up to next! 🥰💜💘

Hey, firstly I really like your blog and opinions on ASOIAF. I wanted to talk about the fandom perception of Jaime and Cersei, especially Cersei and how weird it is lol. I was on another blog and the person was talking about 'overly/unfairly hated female characters due to sexism and misogyny' and there list included Shiv Roy, Skyler White, Alicent, Catelyn....and then Cersei. And I was just ???? I saw another person say this but, I think a lot of ASOIAF fans are not willing or are incapable to meeting GRRM where he is at with some of his plot points or characterizations. People will say 'ohhh the fandom claims that Jaime and Tyrion are less worse than Cersei and that is misogyny' and I just want to be like, is it misogyny or just...a correct reading of the text lol? Like, you can argue that it's problematic that GRRM made Cersei the most evil out of her siblings, who are male, but that doesn't change canon? That is still his authorial intent lol. Like, she killed her friend at the age of 11, she murdered literal babies, threatened Mya's life, sent women to be tortured, etc. like she's written to be an evil sociopath the criticism and 'hate' for her is warranted lol.
Not to defend Robert, but people constantly using him as a shield for Cersei when she literally murdered his children and threatened to murder Mya when he wanted to bring her to KL?? Like, I know fandom refuses to acknowledge this, but I guarantee GRRM considers Robert a better person than Cersei, not like that's saying much. I think GRRM telling us Cersei aborted Robert's babies is not like some.....Feminist Girl Boss move....Martin literally wants us to be disgusted by her actions, yet I've seen metas applauding this for taking her AgEnCy lmaoooooo? Like you're literally applauding sociopathic behavior that the author intended to be sociopathic and evil LMAOOOO????
I feel like people want to point out valid sexism against female characters but have over corrected to the point that female characters like Cersei, that are meant to be hated and make our skin crawl, are now being defended because *checks notes* some shallow reading of feminism meaning you have to support every female no matter how gross her actions? I just don't really get it and this twisting of canon to fit the 'Cersei is actually a victim not a villain you guys and if you disagree you are SeXIsT' is so bizarre. Just say you don't agree with the characterization by GRRM and go, instead of trying to re-write characters to fit an agenda.
100% everything you say. I’ll repeat what I said about HoTD writers and their girlbossifying of Rhaenyra: we have several female characters to represent several archetypes in the main saga, why do we need to whitewash/justify/girlbossify Cersei to fit her into one of those archetypes? Why can’t a female character be a villain and be written as such? Why do we have to always give some sort of “motherly” background to a female character so her actions can be justified under the guise of feminism? Why can we have complex male villains who are discussed and have engaged metas written about them but we can’t have the same for female villains because that’s “anti feminism” if you don’t find some sort of justification that puts her into a box of “actually she’s not bad she’s just a victim of patriarchy and that made her like this, she’s just a mother in pain”. Like do they think THAT is more of a feminist take? That’s D&D level of feminism analysis that’s what. Denying cersei the agency of being both a victim of patriarchy while also being an abuser just makes her so one note. It’s much more interesting and complex to analyze and empathize with her under the lens of how she doesn’t have to be perfect, or even GOOD, to be a victim, that her abuser might actually even be a better “person” than her in terms of their inner thoughts and feelings and still doesn’t make it right what she went through, while also showing how she can be evil by nature and do horrible things because that’s who she is, and she doesn’t need excuses or justifications or be labeled a “mother in pain” for doing those acts and being an abuser herself.

On Fandom Psychology
Humanity has been putting each other into boxes since the dawn of time. Modern culture has evolved the box into something that can be shaped to fit any context and any narrative. Of course, this does not mean the internet created this phenomenon. Bad faith argumentation, narcissism, and misinformation are all terms that can be placed within almost any time frame. But with the birth of the internet came a new kind of monster, not reliant on physical forms nor solely dependent on the majority's public consciousness. Instead, it took our deepest fears and our biggest passions and made a business out of them. And if you think about it, fandoms fall quite nicely into this category and premise.
The rise of fandom toxicity begins when we examine the relationship between fiction and reality in the eyes of the fandom initiate. A lot of fandoms are equally inhabited by older fans and newer fans, each with a personal investment tied to the product they consume. This is neither good nor bad. The good or bad is purely dependent on the application of this concept. Pure passion and appreciation are quite productive. Healthy communication is important when discussing these works. The point where that communication becomes hateful is when it turns from simple disagreements into a dick-measuring contest. I can't tell you how many times I've seen harassment that started from one guy being personally offended by a creative choice in a show. It's totally fine to criticize something. But tone and intent definitely matter.
If we're being fully honest with ourselves, the majority of this so-called "criticism" towards the properties we love is primarily rooted in hatred and demanded action.
youtube
The goal of a lot of this garbage from the grifters and clout chasers of the internet is not to be constructive but only to demean insult and gatekeep. This is especially prevalent within the media analysis communities on Twitter and YouTube, with the "objectivity" crowd especially falling into that particular hell of vitriol. Objective evidence of things that occur in a film is not an assessment of quality, no matter which way you cut it. It is simply reductive to deny feelings and interpretation solely on the basis that you happened to observe...something as if that means anything definitive. It's not even the fact that the examination of quality is the issue. It's the presentation, a presentation reeking of filth and anger on an unprecedented scale.
youtube
Superiority complexes are not exclusive to this particular group, though. Every single person is like this to some degree. Think about the last time you tried to ratio someone over what you considered a "bad" opinion on a film or the times when you've named on someone saying their peace instead of hearing them out. I think that social media, in its infinite wisdom, did not account for a world in which clout and influence became its game. It is so easy now to just make an account, grow a following, and shit on anyone we can think of just because they like a film that we don't.
The horrifying truth is that we all want to have that power, and most would sooner justify the bullying than reflect on the repercussions.

No hate to the creator of this summary
But I love watching videos like this sometimes even though I disagree with most everything
Because it's obviously made by some maybe misogynistic dudebro with clear biases that get into the way of whatever media literacy he has, and dillutes or distorts whatever interesting observations and analysis he makes
youtube
Like I'm sorry, you can't just say nothing happens in the books that mostly cover Ciris perspective because they don't cover Geralts perspective much, and then even worse talk at length about all the stuff that happens. Like??? Hahaha
It also reeks of not understanding themes and core messages, something that's pretty apparent from the way he talked about the short stories (though there definitely are issues with them, no way to denie) and for example when he says that the books make a big deal out of Angouleme looking like Ciri but it not mattering. (Because he views Yennefer as Ciris mother more than Geralt as Ciris father)
There's also some factually wrong stuff, mostly inconsequential details like Reiges giving Milva a pill when he made her a potion, but also claiming that Reiges isn't dead because only higher Vampires can kill higher Vampires (nothing like that is ever said, and there's no reason to doubt that the single most powerful individual in Vilgefortz can't kill Reiges when it's textual not even literal that his molten down remains fused together with stone/marble)
Speaking of Vilgefort, he says Geralt gets wounded by him when in other instances he had no issues calling Geralt severely wounded or such. Which obviously is a massive fucking understatement, Geralt gets owned and almost dies. And, again purely textual, Geralt becomes permanently disabled as a result of the magical treatment that saved his life, but also because his hand can't recover full functionality anymore.
Then there's weird stuff like calling him one and also comparing Dandelion to faggots. But near the end of the video making fun of people who listen to right wing talking points too much. And that last one was what truly broke me, I needed to share all of this.
There's so much in here, I can't remember everything, you'll guaranteed find stuff I missed or overheard. This is art to me.
And yeah, dude said stuff like "wow no wonder a story is much more interesting when you follow the main character" when he switches to book 3 I believe. Because he can't stop complaining about Ciri being important in books 2 and 4, or rather getting more page time than Geralt does. Because he just likes Geralt more and it's awesome because something always happens and there's epic action and stuff. (Anyone else things he's horny for Geralt?)
Idk it's a beautiful mess of incompetence and predetermined judgements and I can't even be mad. But saying that CD Project Red wrote better stories with the games than Sapkowski did with the books, something he actually said in the video completely unironically, is pretty fucking wild. Immmagine. Dude doesn't even understand why Sapkowski wrote the book the way he did, any messaging is lost, hates 70% of the story because it doesn't show off how cool his big bad crush Geralt is. It's hilarious
I'll stop, no more

if there's one thing ppl hate hearing the most, its truth. no one wants anybody to hold up a mirror to them. all their words, behaviors, actions, displayed in front of them, without distortion. there's no countering that. like judgment day. you can bravely accept it or in most cases, vehemently deny and willingly delude oneself. they wanna hear how good they are, how good they did, how great they acted or looked. only positive, never negative. thus assuring a slow boring death and a life with no growth, only stagnation.
i'm that guy who remembers everything, what i gave my 2nd grade teacher the last day of school, how much i gave to the mailman, how i was to the addicts outside the store begging for change or a cigarette, how i treated the waiter, how my sister spoke to me two years ago, how somebody with nothing treats somebody with everything, how somebody with everything treats somebody with nothing, how my father handled his sons, how my mom looked at others who had less fortune, how she stood by the stove over a big pot in a certain way sun in her blonde hair, glasses askew.
i hold myself & others to a very strict accountability and i do a lot of analysis of my actions, i try to be very hard on myself partly to humble myself and partly cuz no one else will and also to be better than i was before, i like to rest easy knowing i did my best or close to it. takes discipline. it's not always comfortable but that's sorta the point. some days i say ok i did p good here and here but here's smth i could do to improve on. most days i say you completely fucked up from sun up to sun down. you don't become like Christ in a day. but you can't even begin to imitate Him if you aren't willing to find yr weak spots, to see where i need to love more, not less. usually the biggest hurdle to kindness and charity isn't just that its difficult to be nice to people who are sick or evil or sinful or mean or generally just shitty people, it's us, we get in the way of our own goodness. we will gladly slap away someone's hand that is there to help us if they dare to rebuke us. as i get older i learn to appreciate my elders who aren't always affectionate in how they teach or show they care but i respect that they even attempt to try, there's a real godliness to it. God does not always coddle when he is trying to show me something or teach me a lesson. standing in front of that mirror and saying yes, that is me, imperfect but desiring of change. never contented. a sinner but not swallowed by it. every day i want to die a bit more to the world, shed some skin, be anew in Christ.
and if mud don't know it's mud it can't ever be anything more, certainly no saint.

maybe im being so controversial rn but to be honest I think jesse armstrong also hates women so much because why would you put like 1 lead woman character and then try to make me hate her more and more with every fucking episode bruh come on. I really tried but come on . Yes all of these characters suck and im not supposed to support any of their actions but you cannot deny shiv has done some insanely fucked up things and it is very hard for me to feel sympathy for her at all or feel like she has served any narrative purpose besides fucking over everyone in her life repeatedly and selling her own family out when it matters the most. there is so little emotional depth to her character it's stunning and i don't fault sarah snook at all for the way her character was painted in the show or the lack of attention the writers/showrunners gave her i think she is a phenomenal actress and i loved what she specifically brought to the show!!!!!!!!!! it's just soooo fucking frustrating to see such a stereotypical flat character paraded as progressive or interestingly written like it's not the same shit as every other show with a token villain edit woman lead... And dont even try to say idk what im talking about.because first of all for example skyler white is my favorite breaking bad character I WANT TO LOVE ASSERTIVE FEMALE CHARACTERS sooooo bad they just have to be written with some kind of emotional complexity!!!! being outwardly evil 100% of the time except when you're pretending to be nice to fuck people over is not what i want to fucking see!!!!! it is soo so so so so maddening as a woman to see this trope play out in every tv show ever that i ever watch it's like every male in the industry writing a woman has to pick between calculating heartless manipulative bitch housewife and quirky zany weird but fuckable bitch girl next door type . Please god i would love to see critical analysis of this shit. You dont have to root for the poorly written women just bc theyre #girlbosses. You CAN and SHOULD dislike the way they are written and characterized and you should be mad about it and at the men who write them most of all

Wow once again, a Gruvia hater makes fun of Gruvia fans. Just wonderful, great even.
Here we go again then.
So honestly, what is the point of writing such long posts about how you hate ship? They argues that it has the same meaning as someone writing long posts in defense of a character. Well, not necessarily. Why would I write a several page post about how I hate a character/ship when doing that is just unhealthy . If I really hate something (which doesn't happen too often for me, but never mind), I just avoid it! It's really not that hard to understand.
Besides, I find it very funny that to show Juvia in a good light, apparently, we are putting down different characters. I don't deny that there are people who are capable of this, but it applies to every fandom! And most importantly, we are not trying to make Juvia into some perfect goddess who never makes mistakes and should be excused. She has her faults, just like any other character. There's no denying that despite the fact that she is my comfort character she did things for the sight of which even I reacted "Oi that's a bit too much", but it doesn't change the fact that a large part of her actions are simply comedy elements.
-"But you can't blame everything on comedy in toxic Gruvian..."
Well I can, I'm not going to lie about reality. Is it so hard to understand that Eastern culture is different from your Western culture? Is that so hard. Why do some people forcefully look for a problem where there is none? I'm not saying that Juvia is written without flaws, but the fact that none of the haters even try, to properly understand her character, without hate is just sad. There are plenty of posts on Tb that take an in-depth and very cool look at Juvia's character. They write about what people don't pay attention to... you know what let's be honest, they DON'T WANT to pay attention to....
And back to insulting other characters in favour ofJuvia, according to these user, it's just childish. Well I agree. Totally, but I would like to remind dear user that you started listing how Natsu, Lucy, Gray are better characters while insulting Juvia. You feel that? It smacks of hypocrisy to me.
And when it comes to the very intelligent and old as the world argument about how Gruvia is forced, at this point, it just makes me want to puke. All it takes is a very good search and, as I just mentioned in the case of Juvia, you will find some great analysis. And for the last time let me remind you. Gray is a grown, 20 year old guy with magical powers, if Juvia's presence really scared him that much he would have done something about it long ago. He can take care of himself! STOP MAKING HIM A VICTIM!!
The fact that people are so desperate, because there is no other way to call it, to continue to have ( sorry for the vulgarity) pain in the ass about the fact that this ship is canon, shows only their level of maturity. For real, we have so many problems in the world, and these people have a problem about Gray being with Juvia. And once again, I call attention to TAGS. If you write something just to hate on it and post it in a place where there are fans of it and then immediately write how you're not going to force your opinion on them, then you're just stupid...there's no other way to call it. Besides, Oh Great Philosopher, if you say that Juvia fans are so horrible in relation to Lucy fans, what example do you set as a Lucy fan by insulting Juvia? As a Lucy fan myself, I'm so dissapointed...
And those Tags. Juvia sucks. Gruvia sucks. I think they totally speak to the level of this person.
The end. Sorry for the messy rant, but I just don't understand the mentality of certain people..I was planning on tagging a few posters who did great analysis on Juvia or Gruvia, but I think at this point it's probably all Gruvians who have seen it lmao. Well another cokehead to block who doesn't know how to use tags, too bad. And to all Gruvians, have a good day/night. I really hope for more Gruvia- moments in the future to piss these people off. Am I being mean? Absolutely. But as they say fire should be fought with fire.

Light on me Ep 5&6
Okay, I think "Light on me" is becomming my most favorite show of the year so far. I love all the characters because they feel so very real. Each of them portray a different kind of personality and their complexity fascinates me. Tae-Gyeong looks like he's so smart with people but at the same time, he - of course - doesn't know more than people show and tell him. This show does such a great job in showing how much and how less we show of ourselves. They are always at school or at least not at each other's homes. They are always outside, so we don't know more private stuff about them than they say and show. We, as the audience, see them through the filter they put on themselves, the filter we are all putting on ourselves. And I find fascinating how authentic it is. It is not weird, we don't know more. Still, we are curious but just up to a certain extent, then there's a line we don't cross and from which we know, is not necessary to cross. Everyone of us has people around them they only meet in explicity one part of their lives like work or school and "Light on me" shows exactly this kind of group of people. Randomly thrown together, getting along very well but not oversharing and only knowing as much about each other as necessary. Is it even necessary to know our surroundings more than what they are around us? I don't think so. And this realism gets to me and my most favourite shows are the ones which are realistic or contain realistic actions and reactions of characters.
Filters
Da-On
When it comes to filters, Da-On is a pretty interesting character. He obviously hides his other emotions behind a smile and doesn't dare showing his weakness.
"I'm a bit distracted right now, so let's talk later. Pretend you didn't just see that."
He always talks nicely, keeps calm and stays friendly no matter what happens. It's his protection but also his greatest weakness, making himself hide even more and feeling even more lost. Even after rejecting a girl who told him to not treat everyone so nicely because it leads to false hope, he continues smiling shortly after. This obviously hurt him and got him thinking but he doesn't dare showing and sharing it. He has to learn vulnerability doesn't equal weakness. But that's a fight he has to have on his own first because that would mean letting his guard down plus not living up to expectations the outside doesn't really have but he has of himself. It's a false picture he draws and I was that kind of person myself and letting go of this is hard but you are rewarded with more love from your friends, so it's really worth it. But yeah, Da-On puts on a smiling filter and switches topics whenever something sad comes up, like his parents.
"I've never been complimented."
He isn't eager to talk about his parents and doesn't like them very much, but he doesn't seem to realize, he's a bit like them.
Tumblr media
He doesn't talk about his inside as well, putting up a smile for the world to see and like him.
Shin-Woo
Shin-Woo is putting a filter onto himself as well. He doesn't hate Tae-Gyeong, more like the other way around. But to protect himself from any possible heartbreak, he choses to push Tae-Gyeong away and makes him hate Shin-Woo. This tells us a lot about him being shy and a loner. He's hardly coming out of his shell and has a hard time expressing his feelings. Not like Da-On, he is easy to read for the audience, but harder to understand for Tae-Gyeong. Unlike Da-On who is easygoing, Shin-Woo expresses his thoughts in other, more subtle ways. He hides himself pretty good, because no one knows anything about him, just like no one knows anything about Tae-Gyeong. They are the real mysteries of the show and that's why they like each other. Both are interested in lifting the veil of the other.
Shin-Woo actually takes a step forward later, making Tae-Gyeong understand him better, since he gave signs Tae-Gyeong somehow misinterpreted.
Tumblr media
Touches and affection
Da-On
Da-On definetely likes Tae-Gyeong. He always seeks an excuse to touch him.
Tumblr media
Tae-Gyeong is mostly flattered by it and also very confused. Even though he says "I can't just be friends with Da-On" he never touches him back.
Tumblr media
The feelings are just one-sided here. Tae-Gyeong obviously sees something going on between them, he can't name, but dooesn't really want to have. I still don't quite know what he meant at the end. Yes, it's about him and Da-On being together or nothing at all but Tae-Gyeong coud've meant them ending up being nothing because he rejects Da-On when it comes to a confession. Tae-Gyeong seems to enjoy Da-On's company not in a romantic way.
Shin-Woo
Shin-Woo and Tae-Gyeong make the most progress here. First, they got closer when they were on the phone in the evening, but greeted each other very awkwardly the next day. This week, the touching becomes more and less overthought.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tae-Gyeong is the first to touch Shin-Woo at a random, mostly out of rage, but it still counts because physical contact is always a sign no matter in which cotext. It always means some interest, if not romantically, then on a friendship-basis. But with people like Tae-Gyeong and Shin-Woo who are both socially awkward and hardly open up to others, touching is a big deal. Like I said, Tae-Gyeong doesn't touch Da-On, which adds even more meaning to him touching Shin-Woo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shin-Woo touching Tae-Gyeong willingly has the same amout of meaning. It means he overcomes his fear and acts on his feelings. The jealously mostly lurred him out of his shell, but the motivation doesn't count that much here. After avoiding Tae-Gyeong at first and then being awkward about it, he chooses to be more casual with Tae-Gyeong. He must have come to realize that Tae-Gyeong really doesn't understand him and since he can't just stand by watching Da-On, he stops being mad. I mean, Tae-Gyeong was pretty intimidating in the cafeteria...
"I don't hate you" totally breaks the ice and Tae-Gyeong can see him a bit clearer now. They talk like real high school kids... Nervous and awkward. Tae-Gyeong isn't like this when he's around Da-On. Da-On doesn't make him blush when he's around or let's him forget what sentences are, so he doesn't turn away to flee the scenery. I love Shin-Woo not being any better and even worse at talking to his crush. He's so overwhelmed afterwards.

Conclusion
So this week we discovered the filters all of them put on themselves because that is something humans do to appeal as a socially chameleon. Also, we learned about the importance of touches and how much they mean in real life.
An honorable mention here: I heard at the beginning, when there are scenes with Tae-Gyeong and Shin-Woo, there's light, happy music in the background whereas scenes with Tae-Gyeong and Da-On don't contain any music. But at the end when Tae-Gyeong and Da-On stand outside, there's suddenly music which I'm afraind doesn't verify my theory of Te-Gyeong rejecting Da-On later on...
A last analysis about the scene at the very end because it shows a lot about the characters:
Tumblr media
You can see here, Da-On touches both of them but they don't touch him. This underlines how much meaning Tae-Gyeong and Shin-Woo's intentionally touching has. They let others touch them because it would be unfriendly to just deny an older person. Also, Da-On is BETWEEN Tae-Gyeong and Shin-Woo, do I have to say more? And Shin-Woo obviously looks at Tae-Gyeong who looks up to the sky like Da-On instructed, so that's of course forshadowing about the upcoming conflict. We already have this love triangle, so let it play out in the chaotic way it's gonna be.
Yeah, that's it because Tumblr doesn't allow more pictures in one post.
