I honestly didn't think that was going to be a problem. Dave's Turntop had Sburb preinstalled when he alchemized it, so I assumed John could make another Sburb machine without the need for a disc.

Maybe John just didn't save the code for his computer. Damn it, Egbert!

Ooh, I remember that thing.

I originally thought it was a turret - but a turret wouldn't help Jade recover her Sburb devices.

Maybe it's a range-extender for the Sburb Server program, allowing Dave to move his cursor from Rose's house to Jade's, and deploy her gear himself.

Captcha codes! Hell yes, it's been so long since we've done anything with the Captcha system.

I did always hope that we'd eventually be reading the 'locked' codes we occasionally saw in earlier Acts. The Laserstation breaks one of the final limitations of the Alchemiter, allowing us to duplicate forbidden items like pumpkins - and, notably, Sburb discs.

It also allows us to perform alchemy with these objects. We may have just unlocked some very, very powerful items.

GG: but isnt the whole point of captchas that only humans can read them? GG: and not robots???

The idea of Sburb alchemy being automated by computers is fascinating beyond words - it just begs so many questions.

Can a computer take on the role of a Server Player, or maintain a Grist Cache for itself? Can an AI be a fully-fledged Player, created in the Veil and sent to Earth on a reinforced hard drive?

We're pretty deep into the comic now, and I can say with a reasonable amount of confidence that Homestuck isn't going to go there - it's just not what the comic is about. But I'd love to read a fanfiction which dealt with ideas like this.

What is. What is blud doing in the background. I like to think seb has an inner monologue similar to dirk striders where hes like going "This thing needs to be moved. Geez Jane, this place is a mess." or "I'm awake and ready to serve fucker." You get the gist. Inner monologue going crazy as he works but being full aware ain't nobody hearing his cool wittisms. Janes expression is completely valid lmfao

Here is another moment of Jane casting doubt on her abilities. And here's where Dirk talks.. about his ancestor for the first time. You know what I guess I can bring up the post where I went over.. dirks jealousy of Dave and self internalisation of that hate? To be honest I'm surprised it got the attention it did. Its been something that I thought about for so long but I never brought it up because it felt and still does to a merit "taboo". Nobody really talks about what admiration can do on the flip side, how it can make you measure yourself up, make you feel attached in a way that provides you with a flip flop between intense aspiration to despisal and envy.

Except.. that isn't exactly true. As I pointed out before, Jane casts doubt on her ability to live up to her ancestors legacy, even if it's just a joking legacy.

Jane and Dirks parts are equal parts jokes as it is thinly veiled inner conflict of ideas they have about themselves and their role. Dirk is sort of ironic in how seriously he takes his irony. Which means it's not really as ironic as he thinks it is.

I'm not going to provide screenshots, but this is where Seb starts getting antsy, and Dirk says that Jane will be the leader of their group, drawing parallels to page 2682 where John and Rose are talking about their null session, unable to get any further.

TT: This session was never meant to bear fruit. TT: It's barren, so to speak. EB: that's a bit of a bummer! EB: i am still skeptical about that, though. TT: That's why you're our leader, John. EB: huh? TT: Optimism through stalwart skepticism is a defect not everyone is lucky enough to be cursed with. EB: that's stupid. EB: i'm not your leader, i am your FRIEND, there is a BIG difference! TT: Statements like that are also why you're our leader. EB: pff. EB: laaaaaaaame. TT: Yes, kind of.

But in Dirks, he chooses it because he thinks thats "the thing to do"

TT: I'm sure you must be aware by now that you'll be the leader of our group, as you will be the first to enter the session. GG: Um, no? GG: This is news to me. I never gathered that "team leader" was a thing for this game. TT: Trust me. It's a thing. GG: Are you sure? I have my doubts. GG: I believe as a group we will have the temerity to succeed, without my having to order people around like an insufferable bossypants. TT: That's why you're our leader, Jane. GG: Hm? TT: Optimism through stalwart skepticism is an affect not everyone is plucky enough to be graced with. GG: That's stupid! TT: Yeah yeah. I know. TT: You're not our leader, you're our FRIEND, right? GG: Precisely! GG: There is a BIG difference! TT: And statements like that are also why you're our leader. TT: But only in name and in spirit. Less so, functionally. TT: If it puts your mind at ease, I'll be the one pulling the strings here.

This reads to me a lot as something he orchestrated, something he thought up to look cool, but what's the point of saying all this shit when you say afterwards you're just going to say that she's controlling none of it and really it's just you (which really, in the end it wasn't). Jane points out a pretty good point about there not being a true LEADER leader, and Dirk just plows on. He proceeds to have a long and eyeroll worthy emphasis about how much he can serve, how good he is at it, how Jane only has to call and he'll come to the rescue, not to worry at ALL. I mean i have to laugh. Here he is emphasising how much he can serve and he can't. He can't at all. Pushing someone in a direction does not always equal helping. His suggestions are befitting his aspect sure, but doesn't always mean it's the right solution!

im mei. i write a lot, and i use my writing as a coping mechanism more often than i truly mean to

this is my MSPFA. it means a lot to me! i want to write stories discussing things that have affected me and my loved ones my whole life AND make it into an interesting and fun adventure at the same time! this is what i use to do that, a fucking homestuck fan adventure. i do agree that thats a little silly but hey! its fun!

ISOLATED INCIDENT contains politics, existentialism, gore, LESBIANS (mostly trolls), other queer creatures, sins-of-the-father type shit, denial, constant struggling and a whole lot of lore that i spent (way) too much time on. im going to keep working on this even if it doesnt get a lot of attention, because god fucking damn it i love this thing and i love my team and i love the way we work on it together

Gamzee woke up groggily, turning over to face his clock that sat next to his recuperacoon. It read 11 AM, which was earlier than he’s woken up in a while. The troll lets out a sigh before sitting up, cracking his joints as he stretches.

He feels different this morning. Not a bad different, but a good one instead. He felt hazy, but not the usual haze he felt after smoking a bowl the night before. He feels… small.

Oh. Oh! He had regressed while he was sleeping.

He takes a few deep breaths before getting out of bed to find his phone. He needed to text Karkat to let him know he was regressed. He really wanted to see his moirail, but he wasn’t sure how busy Karkat would be today, and he really didn’t want to be a bother.

The troll hums, deciding that he would message the other anyways. Anxiety be damned, he wanted to see his best friend!

Gamzee smiles at the exchange. As he waits for Karkat to get to his hive, he starts to get ready for the day. The troll quickly showers, or, really, just runs water and stands underneath it. He feels so much better afterwards, relaxing further into his headspace. He rubs moisturizer into his dreads after his rinse, brushing his teeth and finishing up his normal routine. He smiles at himself in the mirror - he’s come so far from where he used to be, mostly thanks to Karkat. He’s helped him feel like himself again, and now the troll finds himself doing things he never would have before, like this “self care” stuff Karkat had been pushing onto him.

He spots the scar from Nepeta’s claw that spanned across his face, it has since faded since he… yeah, best not to think about that right now.

Karkat arrives soon after Gamzee finishes getting ready. He knocks on the door to his hive, and Gamzee excitedly goes to open it. He smiles as he’s faced with his caregiver. Karkat smiles back, seeing that Gamzee was dressed in one of his own old sweatshirts, large pajama pants, and some purple fuzzy socks. He looked extremely comfortable, not to mention adorable.

“Hey, little grub. I came over as fast as I could”, Karkat says. Gamzee smiles lazily, going in for a hug. Karkat held the other as best as he could, but it was a little difficult with the height difference. Gamzee towered over Karkat, but his head was bent so his forehead was touching the other’s, his dangling arms wrapped around the shorter troll’s body.

Karkat smiled despite the awkward position, leaning into the touch. Gamzee’s hair smelled like the loc oil the other had gifted him a while ago. The scents of passionfruit and pineapple filled the troll’s nostrils as his hair was pressed against his head.

They stay like that for a while, until Gamzee pulls away from the hug, quietly saying “Thanks for coming over”.

“Yeah, of course, I love hanging with my best pal! What did you have planned for today?” Karkat asked the little.

Gamzee shrugs, fiddling with his shirt a bit. He moves from the entryway so Karkat can properly come in. His hive was a bit of a mess, but nothing compared to what it was a few months ago. Only a few dishes were piled in the sink, a couple of pieces of clothing littered the floor, and a few pieces of paper covering the kitchen counter. It was a huge improvement from how it looked before Karkat had intervened; he couldn’t even see the floor of the hive. The other troll was so proud of Gamzee, as silly as it sounded.

“Can we play video games?” Gamzee shyly asks, eyeing his T.V. and gaming set up in the corner of the living room.

“Sure, do you want anything to drink?” KK asked. Gamzee shook his head and plopped onto his couch, moving some of the blankets out of the way so Karkat could sit next to him. Karkat walks over and grabs the controllers that sat on the T.V. mantle, handing Gamzee one as he sits on the couch next to him.

“What did you wanna play?” Karkat asks, booting up the other’s gaming system to the home screen. Gamzee shrugs, saying something that sounded like “You pick”. Karkat noticed he mumbled a lot more while he was regressed, the other troll couldn’t understand him most days if he wasn’t reading his lips.

He selects Mario Party, hoping it was a good choice. It was a simple enough game, something Gamzee could play and actually have fun with while regressed. He guesses it was the perfect choice, considering how Gamzee wiggles in excitement as the title screen plays.

The shorter troll chooses to play as Bowser, while Gamzee is still trying to decide who he wants to be. “Need help deciding?” Karkat asks him, and Gamzee shakes his head as he clicks on Princess Peach. He smiled softly, she was just so pretty, he had to play as her!

They play a few rounds of Mario Party before Gamzee is practically falling asleep while sitting up. Karkat looks fondly over to the other, deciding that he needs a nap. He gently takes the controller out of Gamzee’s hand, which the troll barely registered as he moved another hand up to rub at his eyes sleepily. Karkat gently moves the little into a laying down position on the couch, pulling a spare blanket over the other.

Karkat decides he’ll make them something to eat while the little one sleeps peacefully, so he can get some food into Gamzee whenever he wakes up. The shorter troll gets up from the couch gently kissing the top of Gamzee’s forehead. The other troll smiles a little in his sleep.

“Sweet dreams, little grub”, Karkat whispers.

Do you have thoughts about Dirk and Jake's relationship in canon? I am not anti dirkjake but I do have a hard time understanding the ship and why it's so massively popular. /gen (I have not yet read the epilogues so I'm just working off of whats in the comic)

Oh boy. DO I. Im currently working on a powerpoint presentation thatll be a little guide/recap/compilation.. thing about them whilst im reading act 6 and ill post it whenever i finish rereading the comic and writing all my notes! It will go into all the little bits of dialogue about eachother or narrative ties to certain things and such and such. (Will probably post this some time in the next two months or three. no guarantees)

But! The portrayal of their relationship and who they are and their struggles felt so real to me and it constantly astounds me that theres a fictional character who accurately displayed my own struggles in such a sincere way i feel like im getting put on blast when people psychoanalyise jake english orz

Homestucks character writing and thematic paralleling are some of its best assets and dirkjake are FULL of some of homestucks greatest moments of both. I would say that this post from @/tomatograter goes more into detail about those said moments and also alot of the other reasons i like them! And what they said in this post was true!-

-Theres just so much you can explore in homestuck through their relationship and aaaguh i love it i love it and theyre so important to the overall narrative and its just so nice to see openly gay rep that is as realistic and honest as them in a story like homestuck.

Being a teenager myself coming of age stories are the stories i relate to and find captivating the most right now and i dont think ive seen another piece of media go about its teen characters the way homestuck did. Its got problems on the handling of said characters but i dont think ive read anything else as raw and honest about personal issues teens face growing up and how they affect relationships (of all kinds!) and dirkjake are a big part of that for me!

I dont really like majority of fanon interpretations of dirkjake i wont lie (alot of.. flanderisation and blatant mischaracterisation) i dont really keep track of fandom stuff or ship popularity i just like enjoying what i enjoy and drawing things and talking about it with friends haha

And i have not read the epilogues either! i know the gist of the events in each timeline and i read a couple chapters but that was like years ago at this point and i dont think i will ever attempt to read them or homestuck^2. Some of the ideas that were present couldve been interesting but i honestly have no interest in going anywhere near it from what ive read about it. It sounds like a total shitshow and its not required to enjoy homestuck proper anyway so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

But!! if youd like to hear more about dirkjake in canon id totally reccomend tomatograter's other posts on them!!! his analysis was the thing that made me Really interested homestuck and hehe im grateful because now im here. This post has alot more of his meta commentary about them and theyre all really interesting reads :D

yes tumblr user holy-shit-kris-deltarune. i do indeed like the best character in homestuck that is jade harley and no thats not an opinion thats FACT. jade harley IS the best homestuck character. also despite vriska unfortunately not being on the top three objectively best homestuck characters list yes i do enjoy her a lot. i have some issues with where her arc WENT, but as a character i still love her. (my m8in issues with her resurrection invalid8ting her previous two arcs as (vriska) and during the whole jack debacle. i used to be really sour abt how inconclusive her ending was, but tbh after reading the epilogues i dont mind it so much.) anyways i CLEARLY have vriska br8inrot like she m8de me see spiders for what they are (FUCKING AWESOME), infected the way i texted (i picked uo the eight punctuation for a bit, use ::::} as an emoticon, use the eight repl8cement for “(h)ay” sounds), and the other usual homestuck fan whos into vriska shit.

i never really thought of vrisjade until your posts and at that point it was like “they would have the perfect dynamic” and “why have i never shipped these two before”. also i do remember reading one vrisjade fic you were talking abt and really liking it. like its still not an otp for me, but when it comes to vriska ships yeah its either vrisjade or junevris. (i still enjoy most vriska ships purely because of her tho. thats how much br8inrot i had for her)

oh shit oh beans. did i not talk abt jade harley yet? the best character in homestuck? well i am now! shes a poor traumatized girl and deserves the world. like most jade fans i do NOT like candy timeline jade, but im neutral over meat timeline jade. but thats besides the point. i fell in love with her character right away and while reading through it, yes ofc i began to ship jadedave like the b8sic bitch i am (they are very cute together and i like them a lot. im just saying that im not unique) i am still very upset that jade like after act 5 does almost nothing other than going grimbark. like hussie teases jaddave with the davesprite situation, m8kes her go feral the instant she arrives in the new timeline, then what- she goes on a dead adventure with calliope? that while characterizes her very very well doesnt result in much for her? she was robbed. like she deserved so much better. AND SHE BARELY INTERACTS WITH ANYONE FROM THE METEOR CAST AFTER ACT 5 AS WELL. I DONT THINK ROSE AND JADE EVER HAVE A CONSVERSATION WITH JUST THEM. ugh, gripes aside with how she was handled, shes the best. (i will not get into hs2- i will not get into hs2- i will not i refuse)

um other than that hi!! yeah i followed your previous blog because i thought you were a cool person. i mean its literally kris deltarune and theyre into homestuck? hell yeah! i dont get what people see in me as cool but sure ill t8ke it! thanks!

lately ive been going through my google history when im bored (which is so incredibly entertaining btw. highly recommend) and apparently, after double-checking my camera roll that date & finding proof to support this theory, i did indeed first watch hlvrai on november 4th of 2020. absolutely insane. i thought i hadnt seen it until mid-2021 at LEAST.

street feeling 2: the downward spiral/alternate universe

after saving all of coventry from evil vampires churches was living it large. no weird dorks or bitchy goth vampires in his ear about “consumerism” and “time travel” no more. the guy was doing great. after getting promoted at the government he had nothing to do but be rich and sit in his mansion so he had taken up alcoholism as a honby.

he took a swig from his alchemized (he has an alchemiter like in homestuck) simpsons branded liquor. man…. this must be what it feel like to be a vampire… he thought to himself, letting the booze consume him rather than tonconsume the booze. you could say,the consumer, the vampire was really him all along.

on his super awesome rich boy couch, staring off into the void of alcoholism, churches is consumed by unimaginable horror. he is alone. frick. lanky was fine i guess but that’s his associate you gotta have some boys to hang out with you know no gang no life. no ska. no synthesizer. fucking damn it.

i should call carp, he thought.. oh wait he cannot. maybe i shouldnt have turned carp into the evil meat eater police where they would be converted into a hippie stoner for life, a punishment worse than death. the fact that theyre dead isn’t why he cant call them its that he cant bare to face the terror he created. or maybe it was the meat eater police. either way he is complacent and shameful as across every timeline.

i should call them, he said out loud despite the sentence not being in quotation marks, disregarding the previous train of thought becauuse that is alchohlohlism for you (see: roxy lalonde of homestuck fame) and he picked up his garfield telephone and dialed those fateful digits

one of the spots of the comic i hate the most and yet find myself revisiting sooo often is the particular couple of logs between dave and karkat talking about terezi and the things going on with gamzee behind the scenes. i just. think its such a good little nest of all of the hypocrisy that exists in gamzees character writing. theyre unbelievably, laughably stupid, believing something so obviously untrue that its not even a question whether they deserve basic respect anymore, and yet their belief in this is also somehow an act of manipulation on their part for the sake of.... what? making terezi worse? this isnt even a point in the comic where the relationship is perceived by the other characters as unhealthy (past the idea that being with somebody delusional is a hindrance, and will ruin the otherwise sound head on her shoulders, i guess), but already that fanon interpretation that had been popularized around the time is seeping into the story. gamzee is simultaneously a fool, whom is funny to mock because inevitably their beliefs will be proven wrong, because that is who they’ve been from inception. but they are also a puppetmaster preying on the poor innocent girl who otherwise has always held herself as the judge jury and executioner but now is none the wiser and, worse, completely at their mercy. somehow.

and like. again this is all predating any idea that gamzee is treating her any particular way. and its even weirder when you go and read these logs because its always really felt, to me at least, that these are the first moments where you’re being told pretty explicitly that gamzee’s religious ideas are entirely true to what actually goes on to happen (or has happened already, non-linearly), because of the way dave and karkat keep digging in on how totally impossible it is, how funny it will be to see gamzee realize its bullshit. but even in writing a character arc for gamzee that does include, technically, confirmation of their beliefs, they cant actually be allowed to be right. letting gamzee ever believe something true is too much an act of respect towards the character, the only time this could ever possibly happen is when we are otherwise dragging them through the mud, this time in the form of a shoehorned “implied” story about intimate partner violence that cant even respect the audience enough to call it that until much later on anyways. and that was a shit way to do it when it happens to, hardly says a damn thing and tries to recontextualize these interactions without any of the work of having planned that heavy of a topic’s inclusion at all. its as always a pretty extreme act of racism and ableism, but it’s also hitting on this very veryyyyy homestuck type of misogyny that permeates the text in how it treats terezis “spiral”. the homestuck girls can be strong and they can be smart, are often the smartest person in the room even. but they will still always be proven incapable of avoiding being hurt so that the boys in her life have something to judge and worry over.
