you have to wonder what must have gone through Spock's head the first time Jim and Bones stood on the bridge with him and teased him, asking if he was certain he hadn't given them an emotion response earlier. the first time Jim had to bite back his smile so he wouldn't laugh because Spock's expression is just so funny. the first time they gave him hassle and Bones was smiling, not sneering, because they weren't being mean, they were making jokes with him just as they do with everyone else aboard the Enterprise.

wait are sitcom husbands/boyfriends who are kind of only there to push along the main slow burn romance of the show and then just kinda get punted out as plot devices... are they the male equivalent of fridged women???

literally cannot believe that Star Trek: Ongoing co-opted the inherent eroticism of TOS Jim/Spock playing chess and having Jim beat Spock at chess to create the crux of whEN SPOCK FELL IN LOVE WITH UHURA to promote the herterosexual agenda

Hammerhunter (Jim x Toby) + First date
PD: i love your art and draw style
Thank you very much! I sat there for a while trying to remember if I had a first date scene for one of my hammerhunter aus, before I remembered that I had one for my self indulgent hammerhunter au. They go on a little picnic for their first date in it.

I'm imagining a fundraising brainstorming session post Reunion/Big Talks Completed/Etc Dramatic Things
Whole crew, assembled on the deck, where Stede admits yeah so the whole money always on tap bc I'm rich thing? No longer a thing. We do actually have to Do Pirate Stuff for money now
Cut to Buttons talking cryptically abt how he knows of a list of Secret Pirate Tasks that will really earn good money-
Lucius interrupts to note that he's ninety percent sure Buttons just means dick pics (aka below the waist sketches of various poses and things that Lucius makes, has each person autograph, then sells for ridiculous amounts at random ports. Everyone absolutely makes up fake names for their signature on these, and that's half the fun tbh)
Which no one is against, but Lucius' wrist will need rest now and again what with all the dicks and other body parts (and the sketching of them) so there's got to be something else to do in addition to that
That's where I can't decide if they just go hog wild trying and even succeeding in raiding every ship they run across, setting up some sort of additional gigs (Roach offers baked goods but only if everyone takes shifts helping bake bc he should not have to do all that work alone and he's right and he should say it, Wee John suggests setting up a booth wherever they stop to offer sewing/darning/etc fabric repairs, Fang mentions Ye Olde Hot Topics are always hiring so if they stay near a safeish port for a week or two they could make some extra that way, Black Pete could absolutely make bank whittling things like I myself would be in line for something from him, etc)
or
or
some combination of all the above which gives the delightful moments of
'oh god our ship is being raided by these two terrors and their crew and wait. Wait. The guy holding a cleaver to my neck rn definitely sold me an amazing layer cake two ports back; hey, before u kill me can I pay to have one sent to my family with a note that I'm dead? Yeah? Okay, cool, someone get a pen or just write this in my blood on the deck i guess-'
And Roach would agree to it. Lucius would take down the address and write up the receipt (and the oh god im so sorry im dying at sea and leaving my family alone note to go with the cake) and they'd all be dividing up loot at the end as well as logging random sales made during the raid aksjdjfngg
And somehow they're still barely breaking even and if it weren't for Ed's previously earned funds (he starts sneaking personal financial tips into his pillow talk with Stede each night, and at first Stede hates it but then he's Pavlov'd into getting hard whenever Ed discusses budgeting, and that does make such conversation much more enjoyable for him at least)
like. they wouldn't be wholly Fucked, but it would be a much more nervous situation and everyone is just boggled that Stede doesn't seem to Get that.
But he's eager for all the side gig ideas at least, and even helps (aka he does his best, he's trying to learn how to do the work available to them, even if it isn't always the most amazing result aksndjf)
I like to think he'd eventually realise he has stuff he can offer too, like, maybe he's got a decent hand for fixing the binding of books (bc he's never trusted anyone other than himself, Ed, and the crew with his books tbh, and that v much includes repairs to them.)
Just. Lil guy, sitting by Wee John who's got a sewing project in hand that'll be picked up by end of day, and the same customer left one old much loved book with Stede to be fixed and it's his first customer and he Will Not Fuck This Up
and Frenchie and John are desperate not to giggle (with love) over how nervous he is as they chill beside him and sew away bc like
he's actively sweating with worry but his hands are moving and fixing and reglueing and whatnot with him barely even having to think abt it bc he's so used to doing this particular thing
He doesn't need to worry so much abt this particular thing! Their entire financial situation, yes, but this particular task he actually has some mastery over and everyone wants to see him acknowledge it!!! Not just for his self esteem but bc then he'll promo himself more and hopefully make more fucking money aksndkfng

Posted another OFMD daemon au fic- this because someone said I hadn't mentioned Olu's daemon yet, which was mostly because I wanted to write this piece about him finding out what exactly she is. Also featuring weird sexual tension with Jim, because... [gestures broadly to those two's whole Deal]

part of the reason sitcom romances are so great is because they're CONSISTENTLY friends to lovers sometimes sort of enemies to friends to lovers but it's never a question of do you even like each other or wtf you barely know each other it's that perfect build up that i love so much

GOOD OMENS SPOILERS.
So I've been thinking a lot about Muriel. About how they're sweet and naive and sort of dumb, and they're a 37th class angel.
In fact, Muriel’s level of naivety is nearly the same as Jim-level naivety/dumbness. And Jim was supposed to be a 38th class angel, after being demoted from Supreme Archangel and having his memories removed.
And when this was revealed Muriel says 'I didn't know there was a class below me', what if Muriel is just a demoted angel? What if Heaven just keeps demoting any angel who goes against God’s (the Metatron’s) Plan and making a new, lower class for them? Instead of making them fall, they just keep taking memories and demoting angels so that there wont be a perceived ‘institutional problem’. Which there isn’t. Right?

I love that Jim Gabriel is comic relief, but it's like "this once-a-jerk character is now delightful and knows nothing about earth" instead of "haha Dumb Jim let's undermine him because he doesn't understand"
They COULD have been mean to him. A lot of characters with autistic traits are treated that way, but Aziraphale welcomes him (despite fearing him when he was Gabriel) and lets him rearrange all his books. Crowley answers his questions about gravity and offers him hot chocolate. Even when they're frustrated, they don't take it out on him (with the exception of Crowley's interrogation, but he gave it up when he was sure it wasn't Gabriel pretending)
The main humor comes from the fact that 1. he used to be the Archangel Fucking Gabriel and now he's silly and 2. he's still figuring out the earth. It's done without poking fun at traits that a lot of people have (and are tired of being the butt of jokes)
It also makes Metatron's "the dim one" comment about Muriel cut deeper because it's not "haha dim one," it's an ignorant judgment made by the bad character you're not supposed to trust. Both Muriel and Jim are funny and endearing to the audience without being at the expense of neurodivergent people. I love this show

Fuck it. Muppet High School AU ideas (Yes this is based on the abandoned (??) Muppet High project but like better because I'm hot like that)
- Crazy Harry isn't allowed to go to school anymore.
- Only this town is in a vaguely 50's time period. It's not the 1950's, they're just weird.
- Statler and Waldorf run the place where Fozzie works at (The Jim Henson Company made him a soda jerk????) They pay him far below minimum wage and he doesn't know.
- Kermit's the coolest frog in town because he's the ONLY frog in town (Except Robin.) This man couldn't handle a La Croix
- Piggy regularly gets her friends to jump Denise when she's leaving class. The only reason she hasn't been expelled is because her family regularly donates to the school.
- Gonzo's origin story is him ordering some bullshit like an orange soda float and Fozzie going "Hey, I'm gonna need a snowball for this freak", thus awakening something in Gonzo. This wasn't on purpose, Fozzie was just doing his job
- Animal doesn't play guitar, Janice just asks him to hold it for her while she's at cheer practice.
- Beaker is failing speech and debate because nobody can understand him.
- Rowlf is only on the football team so he can catch the ball. It's like a big game of fetch for him.
- The Electric Mayhem are constantly smoking weed in the 1st floor men's restroom. You cannot use that one.
- Rizzo is one of Fozzie's coworkers and he adamantly refuses to use the soda jerk codewords because he thinks it's dumb
- Scooter gets bullied for being gay despite the fact that everyone else is also queer
- Bunsen has started about 9 fires so far, and only 6 of them were in the school's science classroom.
- The Swedish Chef also works with Fozzie. He barely has a grasp on the English language and he's staying with Sam Eagle
- Sam is class president. One time, he almost beat up Floyd for sitting down during the Pledge of Allegiance

Little Women x Rise crossover, because there's four turtles and four March sisters so obviously it's perfect lol
Tumblr media
[I.D: Rough drawing of Mikey and Amy, a girl roughly his height with ringlets. Mikey holds a can of spray paint while Amy looks on in fascination and has sparkles around her head. An arrow points to Mikey and is labelled 'explaining spray paint'. End. I.D.]
First: Mikey and Amy, both the youngest siblings and the artists of the family. Amy would go wild over the possibilities of modern art supplies like spray paint (and given her record with property destruction she might enjoy graffiti lol).
Tumblr media
[I.D. Rough drawing of Raph and Meg. Meg is about two heads shorter than Raph and has her hair in a bun. Both of them talk excitedly at each other. Above them is written 'sharing stories about dumb stuff siblings did'. End I.D.]
Raph and Meg: both the oldest and have a decent amount of experience being in charge of dumbass younger siblings. They're also both used to carrying responsibility (even though it's not necessarily all the time) so they might bond over that too.
Tumblr media
[I.D. Drawing of Beth and Donnie. Beth sits at a piano, her hair in braids, and smiles happily as she plays. Donnie is standing, singing passionately into a microphone in his hand. Above them is a wavy line of music containing the notes for the first three measures of the song Off to Massachusetts from the Little Women musical. End I.D.]
Donnie and Beth: both the siblings with the greatest interest in music from their respective families, and (with a brief period to warm up on Beth's end) they would love making music together. Donnie would probably introduce the civil war teenage girl to EDM for the sake of science.
Tumblr media
[I.D. Drawing of Leo and Jo. Both of them are holding a book and talking excitedly to each other. Leo is wearing a skirt and Jo has short hair, a little past her ears, and is wearing a suit and pants. Above them is written 'planning a play together' in parentheses. End. I.D.]
Leo and Jo: both dramatic and kinda gnc theater kids, enough said. At some point Leo would introduce her to comic books (not considering the ramifications of showing an aspiring author the potential of combining art with storytelling) and Jo would be absolutely fascinated. Especially if he showed her Jupiter Jim comics specifically given their wild sci fi storylines.

I feel kinda stupid now that I've taken some intensive fiction writing/creative writing classes. I've always liked writing but more as a hobby. I have absolutely no interest in being traditionally published, so creative fiction writing seemed like something cool to do when given the opportunities. By far, I think i learned the most from my children's creative fiction writing classes (took three). The most important thing I think more people online could learn is that your favorite authors to love and hate are just normal people, and they're often bound by the constraints of their audience (and publishers, agents, etc). A lot of children's fiction writers, I think, want to tell good, entertaining stories for kids and want to introduce them to complex topics, especially (from experience) fantasy children's authors. However, when you have a word count or other constraint, how do you go about explaining real-life problems in a fantasy setting? The easiest and most common method is to use imagery of real-world events and problems that are, or will be (once they learn it in school) more commonly understood as Bad and Oppression. Fantasy sub-species or gender is oppressed in fantasy setting?--model it after the Magdelene Laundries. Fantasy race is opressed by society?--model it after Jim Crow or Nazi Germany or anti-Christian isolationist practices in Japan. Is the author saying these events were good? Absolutely not; quite the opposite. Though, it's much easier for kids to understand difficult topics when it's spoonfed to them, and in order to criticize fascism in stories or settings, you have to, you know, depict it first.
This was something I was missing in my media analysis about 4-5 years ago. Just because I'm adult, I forgot the adult writer(s) were writing for kids (or young adults). Makes me feel really dumb for jumping on the "Steven Universe, Voltron, AoT, insert random fantasy YA book encourages fascism/racism/oppression/etc bandwagons."
--
People tend to forget that just because they like media, it doesn't mean that media is for them.
That often gets lost in the rush to defend oneself against "LOL, you read YA as an adult!" or "All anime is for kids, har har" type jeering.
Granted, one hopes most YA titles will be more morally complex than things for 5-year-olds, and some anime is for adults, but...
