ok so this might go against the specifics of Na'vi culture/customs, but listen, I'm not a stickler for the rules, and I have an idea. this may or may not become canon to my AU, I haven't decided.
but listen
before neteyam died, he and ao'nung made Tsaheylu (young, dumb, strictly romantic and impulsive decisions made in the woods by two kids who feel like their world is falling down around them, cause why the fuck not).
after, when ao'nung visits neteyam, he swears to his to be forever his.
neteyam tries to reason "we were so young, and let's be honest, that was kinda dumb. if I was still here, sure, but ma'nung you are still so young, you're destined to be chief, you don't have to do this, you don't have to be alone"
and ao'nung is like "I want this, I want to be yours. tsireya can be heir, she can be Tsahìk, she can continue the line of succession, if that's what it will take to be yours. I am not alone ma'teyam, I lost you and Eywa gave me ma'spider, ma'hi'ti (hi'ti is ao'nungs nickname for spider/Hi'i'tsyil). he may not be mate, he isn't, but he is more then my brother, he is my person. it is Eywa's will that I am yours, that I will be yours and not alone. I am yours and yours only, I promise you that ma'teyam."
and neteyam just gives in, cause ao'nung is stubborn and will not be budging, "can't wait for you to break that promise, yawntu (my love)" he jokes, just to spite his lover.
"I won't" ao'nung bites back
"I know, that's why I worry for your skawng ass"
"nga yawne lu oer (I love you)" he chirps, forever cheeky
"yeah yeah, nga yawne lu oer, now go be with your person" he huffs playfully, kissing his mates head.
and ao'nung just smiles, before breaking the connection, opening his eyes to his brother in front of him.
his love for spider is different then his love for neteyam, but equally strong. spider is not his mate, his love isn't romantic, but it would still drive him to kill for the human, to fight to the death of it meant keeping him safe. spider was his person, he felt his brothers heart beating in his own chest (reference to a currently unreleased fic, but fuck is it destroying me), feels the bond Eywa has created between them.
Eywa must have known his stubborn ass would need some company in life, cause he could never break his promise to neteyam, the one stupidly made in the dark of night on the sandy edge of forest oth boys called home.
~~~
I don't know, just the idea of spider and ao'nung being connected by Eywa makes my sad little self happy. it's bittersweet to think about too, cause like, ao'nung being the one to tell neteyam about spider, telling him about his new name, new family. having his other half taken while they were both so young, and still promising himself to only him, and having spider to give him companionship in life.
this was in fact fueled by me hc'ing spider as aroace cause I was projecting, and then crying over aonunete, and then being like... life partners.
anyway
ao'nung being a tirea sa'em (spirit parent, adoptive parent) and making a promise to spider to never fail a child like the Sully's failed him.
they literally run in the same social circle and ppl think they hate each other i have to laugh.....theyre like genuine friends its so obvious
it is now undeniable that they have something beautiful and profound that want to keep for themselves. We are all happy when there is some content or interaction like a like or a post but to actually think that that is more important than "literally spending time together every time they are in the same place" is ridiculous.
The generational progression of team dynamics is truly so funny to me.
You have the Justice League and they're all coworkers. They're friendly and polite with each other but they don't really hang out together outside of work. Two of them might transcend the work friend dynamic and buddy up outside of work (i.e Barry and Hal or Ollie and Hal or Bruce and Clark) but you will never see all of them casually hanging out for fun.
Then there's the Titans. These guys are friends. They all have busy lives so they maybe don't see each other as much as they'd like to but they're all deeply bonded with each other. They make a point of planning big get togethers with each other unrelated to work. They know each other's deepest secrets. Their kids consider the other Titans aunts and uncles.
Last but not least there's Young Justice. Young Justice is the definition of unhealthy codependency. They're all best friends and they act like siblings but they might also all be in love with each other? Kon dated Cassie, hit on Cissie, flirted with Bart's clone and had a dream where Bart was in a cheerleading outfit and was with his other love interests and then just everything with Tim. Cassie dated both Tim and Kon, and then there's everything with Cissie. Bart admitted that Cassie made him 'like girls' (?), took Cissie to a dance, and is extremely close with Tim and Kon to the point where it could just be unhealthy codependency but it might be something more. Honestly this entire group is so intermixed and codependent it's insane. They go from 'i love you so much you are my best friend' to 'i wanna make out with you' so fast and with barely any breathing room. They are constantly with each other and hang out at least once a week. They cannot exist separately.
hm. the final two being scott and cleo. at some point i need to like, properly write an analysis post about scott and cleo and the ways that they like... so the thing is that even since third life the two of them have always kind of fallen back and leaned on each other. widow's alliance to gaslight gatekeep girlboss to chosen soulmates to technically being on different teams from then on but were they really. to "we can't team up again we're too good" in secret life to "he's kind of like your bdubs" in that same series when cleo just sort of assumed they were on the same side anyway (by the way STILL an insane way to put that etho). to teaming up again this time to being the final two to laughing and having fun until the end until a zombie kills scott (like a zombie helped scott kill ren) until cleo doesn't have to be the one to make the final blow. to the "we always do this we always gravitate to each other".
the thing is that it's not so much that they're soulmates, exactly (it's kind of a defining thing about them that they aren't), or that they're one of those star-crossed pairs the life series keeps producing (they don't shape each other, not really). it's that they're both, in the end, always there. a stable pair, a lighthouse and a ship in a storm. the thing that makes them different from so many duos is that there isn't really conflict, not really; they know the shape of one another. their first alliance will often be someone else; their first alliance is also to each other, no matter what they say.
so of course they laughed as they fought in the end.
it was them. it was never really a fight in the first place.
the pathologic Kin is largely fictionalized with a created language that takes from multiple sources to be its own, a cosmogony & spirituality that does not correlate to the faiths (mostly Tengrist & Buddhist) practiced by the peoples it takes inspirations from, has customs, mores and roles invented for the purposes of the game, and even just a style of dress that does not resemble any of these peoples', but it is fascinating looking into specifically to me the sigils and see where they come from... watch this:
P2 Layers glyphs take from the mongolian script:
while the in-game words for Blood, Bones and Nerves are mongolian directly, it is interesting to note that their glyphs do not have a phonetic affiliation to the words (ex. the "Yas" layer of Bones having for glyph the equivalent of the letter F, the "Medrel" layer of Nerves having a glyph the equivalent of the letter È,...)
the leatherworks on the Kayura models', with their uses of angles and extending lines, remind me of the Phags Pa Script (used for Tibetan, Mongolian, Chineses, Uyghur language, and others)
some of the sigils also look either in part or fully inspired by Phags Pa script letters...
some look closer to the mongolian or vagindra (buryat) script
looking at the Herb Brides & their concept art, we can see bodypainting that looks like vertical buryat or mongolian script (oh hi (crossed out: Mark) Phags Pa script):
shaped and reshaped...
whenever ashton and imogen interact it's so special to me.
"Ashton, you're so special"/"That's why I'm fighting for you because you're so fucking special"
"you ever feel like you were taking up space meant for someone else?"/"I spent my entire life taking up space"
both left behind by their families who chased things bigger than them, and it's not destiny, this is them choosing to act and use up the space (and the gifts/powers left to them as the consequences of their parents' actions) they take up to make things better not just for themselves or their newfound family, but for those who they'll never know and those who will come.
