Happy (birth)day
This is my first writing since I wrote my school deadlines and I hope it doesn't suck entirely. Also!! Happy Birthday Danny (and Jason Grace of course!) Specific request I allowed is also by Danny :) Pairing: Platonic Jason, Piper, and more! Romantic Leo Valdez x reader :) Request: Can I request camp shenanigans where Jason and reader have their birthdays on the same week (like me and Jason!) So Piper and Leo throw us a surprise party in the bunker? Obvsly Leo and reader are dating 🥺 but you can choose whether Piper is just there for platonic support to her besties or of it's still Jasper era Warnings: none! Word count: 2.2k -Asja
Tumblr media
You were suspicious already when, as you had breakfast, Leo did not greet you excitedly. Even worse, you did not see your boyfriend at the Hephaestus table at all. He wouldn’t have forgotten about your and Jason’s birthday’s, right? Leo must be planning something, and as you didn’t manage to spot Piper, who arrived at camp a few days ago, you figured they must have made a plan together. Your suspicions were correct, as when you met with Jason to ask him if he had any ideas, you both were approached by Harley.
“Big bro Leo told me to deliver this,” he handed you a small device, saluted, and ran off. “Thanks…?” you said, looking at his disappearing figure. Jason carefully took the device off your hands. “He must be planning something,” Jason examined the device closely, “I’m guessing with Piper as she wasn’t at breakfast either,” he sighed, “I just hope they didn’t entirely skip breakfast.” “I am sure they had something to eat, Leo loves food after all.” You noticed something on the device and quickly grabbed it, “Is this a button…?” you pressed it, and almost dropped the device as a small, hologram Leo came out.
“Sure hope the timer works on this thing, right Pipes?” Leo laughed, before stepping away and holding his hands behind his back, as if they were bound together. Off camera you could hear Piper laugh. “Would be awkward if it didn’t,” her voice sounded, “otherwise the whole ruse might fall through. 3.. 2.. 1.. go!”
“Ah! I’ve been captured!” Leo looked around frantically, “I’m not sure where I am but I sure hope this lil thing will get out-” he coughed as he cowered, “Please, whoever finds this- I need help-” Leo pretended to think and shook his head, “All I remember is this name- Nona and something about a vault?” he looked straight into the camera, “please find me, and bring all your friends! I can’t die on my lover’s and my best friend's birthdays. It would ruin their lives! Please-” A loud rumble sounded from somewhere behind the camera, and Leo looked up before loudly exclaiming “FUCK” as the hologram stopped.
“Nona?” you asked and Jason laughed. “It’s a Latin prefix for nine, he’s in Bunker 9,” he explained. “Leo’s a nerd,” you said affectionately, “Well, let’s round up all our friends before Leo fakes his death again.”
───────────
Unsurprisingly, all your friends were really easy to find. As in, most of them were already talking, not suspiciously at all, in a circle, right outside the dining hall. Even more not suspicious behavior was when Jason and you approached them Percy very loudly went, “Hey guys! I sure hope Leo is okay, ah-” Annabeth elbowed him. “Happy birthdays!” she smiled, “Anything fun planned?”
“Funny that you mention Leo, Percy,” you sighed, pretending to be worried “seems like he’s in a bit of a pickle right now.” “(Y/n), we both know he’s come out of worse situations,” Jason said next to you, and he put a hand on your shoulder, “The things he said was so cryptic, I think it’s for the best if we just let him figure it out on his own.”
“Oh?” Nico feigned interest, “I love cryptic hints, what are they?” You could see Will hide a smile as he looked at his lover.
“Something about a Nona-” you gasped, “Wait, Jason! Do you think it’s an ex?” Jason huffed, to conceal his laugh. “Maybe, or it’s Latin for nine, but Leo doesn’t know much Latin so that’s unlikely.” Jason sighed, “I’m sorry (Y/n), I guess we’ll have to travel around the U.S. to find Leo.”
“Perhaps a monster is forcing him to learn Latin,” you looked at Jason, “and we both know how that changes people,”  “What do you mean, ‘how Latin changes people’?” Jason hit your arm. “They get all serious, Jason,” you gave him a look of pity, “and for Leo that might be deadly.”
Jason gave your statement a moment of thought before nodding sadly. “Who wants to hold a funeral?” he asked, “That way from this year on we can celebrate three things on this day.”
“How about we hold the funeral in Bunker 9?” Annabeth suggested, “It’s a place he loved most.” Before you could react, Nico started walking away. “I’m getting a coffin, be right back.”
“Where will he get a coffin from?” Percy muttered and Will smiled. “He still has some left over from refurbishing cabin 13.”
“Why?” Percy whispered, not expecting an answer.
───────────
As your little progression moved closer to Bunker 9, you had trouble keeping it all together. Nico had six skeletons carry an empty coffin up front. Meg and Grover caught up to you with a bunch of flowers, all potted, which each person carried one of. Except for Jason, who was carrying a torch to light the pyre with that was yet to be built.
The entire Hephaustus cabin was following you, holding up their banner, and Harley excitedly kept running around. Of course, you were certain everyone was aware that this was all a joke, especially when Chiron stopped you to ask what was happening and you simply went; “Oh, Leo got killed by Latin,”
Chiron was confused, but did not ask further questions about the funeral progression. In the end, it made sense as Leo probably got permission to do something in Bunker 9. As you approached the bunker, you noticed that the door was opened, and as the skeletons with the coffin entered first you only heard a muffled “SUPRISE!” from inside. As you entered, most of the progression gave up the pretense, but Jason and you had a goal. So, fully ignoring Leo, Piper, and all the other people that were in the bunker, you both stepped onto the nearest empty table. You noticed Leo standing on the front row, but quickly looked away.
“Today,” Jason’s voice boomed over the crowd, which was being rowdy, “we lost our dear friend Leonidas Valdez,” The crowd was silent except-
“HEY! I am not dead!” Leo’s said loudly. “Sometimes-” you sniffed, “I can still hear his voice. Gone too soon, rest in peace my love.”
“What the fuck happened-” Leo exclaimed.
“If I understand correctly,” Everyone suddenly looked at the entrance, seeing Chiron standing there, “You became Latin, a dead language.” Chiron’s scrutinizing gaze went over the party, “But as you seem rather alive, I think instead you shall be having stable duty for the next month, starting tomorrow, as you did not request to hold a party.”
“Aw man,” Leo sighed, “Can we at least hold it now?” he looked with a hopeful gaze to Chiron who sighed. “As long as I do not perceive anything more to do with this activity. Happy Birthday (Y/n), Jason,” and he galloped away.
Jason and you burst out laughing, as Leo pouted at you two. After you calmed down, you slowly made your way off the table.
“Your timer didn’t work,” you said as you softly gave your boyfriend his device, and a kiss on the cheek. He fidgeted with the device for a little bit before he sighed. “So you made it more dramatic?” he asked, after which he sighed, “I love you. Happy Birthday, my love.” he smiled, “Oh, and (Y/n) of course-”
“Hey!” you gasped and Jason laughed. “Love you too, Leo.” he said as he put his hand on Leo’s head, petting him “Pisada Carinosa” he muttered.
“That’s it I am finding Nona and dating her-” you turned around, only to be met with Piper. “You could date me if you’re done with Leo.” she smiled and you grinned, before hugging her. “I just might,” you joked as you let her go. Leo quickly grabbed your hand, and pulled you towards him and pressed a kiss on your lips. “Nuhuh- you are not getting rid of me that easily corazoncito,”
───────────
After a while, Piper said it was time for the main activity of the day. She led everyone into a “room” that was hidden behind curtains. As you walked in, you saw a gigantic screen and piles of pillows on the floor.
She instructed everyone to sit down, as Leo and her handed out buckets of popcorn and other snacks. You sat next to Jason, who was holding a letter.
“What’s that?” you asked, and Jason looked up. “Thalia couldn’t make it to camp, but she left a letter.” He showed you a picture of her and Reyna, standing at the Grand Canyon, “it’s weird how that’s where it started,” he smiled sadly, “how far we’ve all come since meeting each other.” “Hug?” you asked and he nodded.
Engulfed in your presence, Jason began to relax. Certainly, losing his memories was hard and he often doubted whether he deserved Leo and Piper as friends, or if they even wanted to be his friend. But nowadays, he couldn’t be more certain that what he had was his. You, Leo, Piper, Frank, Hazel, Reyna, Bobby, his sister Thalia. All these friendly faces, that mean so much to him. He thanked the gods for his spot in both camps, and for allowing him to be happy and alive. As he let you go again, he had to blink away his tears.
“Thanks,” he whispered, and he leaned back against the pillows. Shortly after, the big screen started playing. Before the movie even got to its proper beginning, Leo squeezed himself between you and Jason, leaning mostly on Jason. Piper sat on your other side, and cuddled up on your shoulder, as you leaned a bit against Leo.
The Barbie opening sequence started playing, to great delight of the people in the room.
“How?” you whispered, “This movie has barely been out for a week-” “My dad pulled some strings,” Piper smiled, “got us a private release.” “That’s awesome.” you grabbed her hand, and looked her in the eye, “Piper I love you-” she laughed. “Anything for my friends.”
───────────
After the movie was done, Leo asked the real question.
“So who are the Barbie and Ken of Camp Half-Blood?” Out of nowhere he got out prisoner signs, one with Barbie on it and one with Ken on it.
“Jason is Ken, right?” Piper stated, “I mean look at him, it’s like he’s made for the ‘beach’ job description-” unanimous sounds of agreement came from the crowd, and Leo gave Jason the Ken sign.
“I fully agree.” Leo said, before he got interrupted by the laughter of Nico.
“Sorry-” the son of Hades wheezed, “Will’s pouty because he thinks Piper used charmspeak to convince people Jason is Ken-” Nico grinned as his boyfriend tried to forcefully shut him up by smothering him.
“Barbie is a doctor though,” you grinned, “I think Will makes a perfect Barbie.”
“Oh! I was going to suggest our local Barbie, Pip-” before Leo could finish the sentence Piper harshly stepped on his toe, before ripping the Barbie sign out of his hands.
“And our local Barbie!” she grinned evily, “Will Solace!” she handed the son of Apollo his sign, and he hesitantly accepted it, and he stood up.
“Well, as I am Barbie I guess I will go to my Ken now. I hate you for this Di Angelo,” Will walked towards Jason, and sat down next to him, slightly awkwardly. As you looked at Nico, you saw that the smile of sheer delight had not yet left his face, “Love you too, Barbie.” he called from across the room, eliciting some laughter from the audience.
───────────
As the party was slowly calming down, you had a moment of calm with your friends. Leo was softly holding you from behind, as you were conversing with Piper and Jason.
“Thanks for organizing this guys,” you said looking at Piper and Leo.
“It’s nothing,” Piper smiled, “I’m happy we got this many people here in the end.”
“Yeah, you’re welcome! Too bad I have stable duty now though.” Leo looked sulky. “I might try to talk him out of it,” Piper said, “After all, your birthday is in like two days too.”
“That’s true, hey Jason,” you turned your gaze to the son of Jupiter. “Yes?” he returned your gaze. “Wanna fake our deaths for Leo’s birthday party.” “Of course,” Jason grinned.
“Please don’t” Leo pleaded. “I’ll help!” Piper smiled. After a second of silence, everyone broke out in laughter.
It was indeed a happy (birth)day.

Clarisse had to hold in laughing as she saw Annabeth's eyes bulge in fascination as Gibbs used the iris scanner. With a hiss and a clunk!, the doors unlocked. He heaved the door open. "Welcome to MTAC, agents."
"Wow," Annabeth whispered as her eyes adjusted to the darkness.
"Sweet secret base you guys got going on," Clarisse praised.
"Thanks!" McGee beamed like he was the one getting complimented. "It's decked out with some great technology sensors. It's completely separate in terms of technology, components, and connection from the rest of the building. Best monitors, state-of-the-art firewall, and the-"
"You guys do any movie nights in here?" Clarisse cut in.
"I-well no. I mean, uh, maybe? I wouldn't know anything about that," McGee spluttered.
Clarisse smirked. "I'll take that as a yes."
"McGee," Gibbs said, saving his agent, "Connect us up with the Staff Sergeant's C.O."
McGee hurried to do as he was told, working with a row of tech. Clarisse wouldn't want to get too close to any of those. Could probably get the entire monster population of the East Coast fixated on their position with those many wires. Annie, Prissy, and Goat boy wouldn't appreciate it. Would make one heck of a battle story, though.
Gibbs, Annabeth, and Clarisse stood in front of the huge screen.
"Morning, agents," the commander said when he flashed on the screen.
"Nice to meet you, Commander," Annabeth said.
"I would rather have not, Special Agent Lima, Gibbs. I take it you still haven't found out who took out my mechanic."
"No, Commander," Gibbs said, "And it seems your mechanic was into a case of his own."
"What do you mean?"
"We believe he was following leads that might uncover cartel movement in D.C.," Annabeth explained.
"Can you tell us anything about anything the Staff Sergeant was involved in?" Gibbs asked, "Any ops that he was assigned?"
"No, sir. This is the first I'm hearing of this. He was designated to go on tour; we were called in to head into NAMRU-6."
"Peru?" Gibbs questioned.
"It was going to be smooth sailing," the commander affirmed. "A secret mission…He was one hell of a mechanic, and even then…"
"Commander?" Annabeth pushed.
"He was too smart for his own good. He wasn't going to be a simple Staff Sergeant for long. In fact, I'm surprised he held out for this long. His excellent, strategic mind and fighting skill, especially in close combat, had placed him in the fast lane for promotion. He may have wanted to be a simple mechanic, and I know he declined several offers, but as good as he was, he gained the attention of those who could force him into positions."
Clarisse frowned. Sounds like Michael had been way too noticeable. She didn't even think that the Navy and Marine corps would inspect mechanics that thorough. How did they test his strategy making?
"Sounds like he was a special case," Clarisse said, "Did he get any flak from his crewmates because of it?"
"Not really, ma'am. He wasn't exactly a social person to begin with."
"He never got into any disputes with anyone?" Clarisse asked.
"Only one, but I've learned to keep them apart."
"Reason?" Gibbs asked.
"Uh, they just didn't see eye-to-eye."
Clarisse almost snorted. Translation: he had no clue. What kind of Officer in Charge was this guy?
"Who's the soldier?" Annabeth asked.
"First Lieutenant Adrian Rodriguez."
"He antagonize a lot of people?" Gibbs asked.
"No, sir. He's actually very well-liked. It was very strange that he turned confrontational with Kahale. Same with Sergeant Kahale."
"And you have no idea as to why this was." Gibbs didn't phrase it like a question. At least they were all on the same page.
The C.O. on the big screen shrugged. "Those are two of the sea's finest. Rodriguez is soon to become Major. They don't have so much as an excuse to hang around each other anyway."
This time, Clarisse didn't bother hiding a sound of disbelief.
"Where is he?" Gibbs asked at the same time as Annabeth said, "Tell us about him."
Clarisse stepped back so the two could glare at each other better.
"He's a skilled Marksman," Commander Oblivious replied, "knows a lot about on-the-spot- field medic stuff…sings pretty good, too." Clarisse shared a glance with Annabeth. That sounded familiar. Annabeth would probably say that it was a textbook definition. Nerd.
"But he has not left the ship," the commander continued, "he's been on board the entire time."
"Then call him over," Gibbs said, "Maybe we can help solve what his problem with Michael Kahale was."
"You can't think-"
"The more we know about our victim, the better we can predict his movements and motives," Annabeth consoled.
The commander ceded the point and nodded at some staff who promptly left the room, presumably to find the First Lieutenant. He turned his attention back to the NCIS agents.
Gibbs continued on questioning him. "Did Staff Sergeant Kahale ever mention an Annabeth Chase?"
The man on the screen frowned. "The name rings a bell; give me a sec." He shuffled some papers around. "Oh! Yes, as one of the emergency contacts. Right there under his father. Annabeth Chase, relation as his sister."
Annabeth showed nothing. Instead, asking, "What is the contact information?"
"A phone number with a New York area code."
"Read aloud the number, please."
The commander read out the numbers as Annabeth instructed. Clarisse immediately recognized it as the mainline to the Big House.
"It's a different number than the one he called," Annabeth said.
"McGee," Gibbs called, giving silent instructions.
"Already on it," McGee said, "Number is to a farm, Delphi Strawberry Service. Located in Long Island."
Clarisse mentally cursed and tried not to self-consciously fidget at the glare Gibbs gave Annabeth.
"But he never spoke about his family. Or friends. Or life. Again, not the most social guy."
There was movement in the back, as the staff member came back with a soldier, who promptly stood at attention.
"First Lieutenant Rodriguez, meet NCIS Agents Gibbs, Lima, and…"
"La Rue," Clarisse supplied.
"First Lieutenant," Gibbs greeted.
"Sir!"
"At rest, First Lieutenant," Annabeth said.
Gibbs started the questions as Rodrigues shifted his stance. "What's your relationship with Staff Sergeant Michael Kahale?"
The soldier frowned, confused. "He was a mechanic assigned to this vessel, sir."
"We're told that you were uncharacteristically disruptive around him."
"Yes, but I haven't been in confrontation with him, as per C.O. orders. If he's said-"
"First Lieutenant Rodriguez," The C.O. cut him off, "Sergeant Kahale was shot two nights ago."
"Shot?" Rodriguez said in shock, "But… we're home…"
"We know that you've been on board the entire time," Annabeth said, "We just need to know more about who Michael Kahale was."
"I-I understand, Ma'am."
"What made you dislike the Kahale, First Lieutenant?" Clarisse asked him.
"It's not that I disliked him, ma'am. Kahale was actually a good guy. Introverted, sure. But he was a good soldier, amazing smart, and easy to talk with. But I…" He faltered. "I don't know. For some reason, the friendly conversations always turned into some sort of fight? Like a challenge I couldn't lose to? I guess?"
"Don't sound sure of yourself," Annabeth noted.
"I can't explain it. Every time, it just led to a fight over any stupid, little thing. I honestly don't know why. I don't expect any of you to understand."
Clarisse heard Gibbs sigh tiredly and mumble, "Oh, I understand perfectly."
"Can you give us some examples of what you fought over?" Annabeth asked.
"They were stupid, ma'am. Like over the name of a future vessel. He thought it should be named USS Zeus. I said it to be USS Jupiter. We also fought over his position. Kahale was a good Marine but could've been even better. But he kept at being a non-commission mechanic because he had an issue with the control of our Superior Officers. I know he even declined a promotion to Warrant Officer. He disliked how strict military life was and preferred the more laxed nature of the machinists. He believed that individuality and improvisation held more value in the field than the collective skill of the group and rigid structure. He did not trust others with making decisions for him and disliked giving orders himself. But I know several of my brothers who have similar opinions, and I've never fought them over it."
Annabeth nodded, humming softly and deep in that brain of hers.
"Did he ever mention some sort of mission?" Gibbs asked.
Rodriguez blinked. "No. Nothing ever like that."
"Mexican Cartels? Arms dealing?" Gibbs fished.
"What? No!"
'Freaking Hades,' Clarisse thought, 'I hope this information isn't supposed to be kept low profile.'
"What about mythologies?"
The First Lieutenant stiffened. He was definitely a demigod. Clarisse would have to see if Chiron knew an Adrian Rodriguez.
"What do you mean?" Rodriguez tried playing off.
"Gods, Roman myths, Greek heroes, monsters, that sort of stuff."
"No."
"Then that's all we need from you, for now, First Lieutenant," Gibbs said, taking a glance at Annabeth.
"Catch who did this to my mechanic, Agents," the Commanding Officer said before the connection cut off.
Gibbs didn't waste any time.
"What am I missing here?"
Annabeth lifted an eyebrow. "What are you talking about?"
"Some random mechanic gets murdered hours away from his assigned vessel because he was uncovering an entire operation that was way out of his league. His dying words were to some girl whom he listed as an emergency contact with a Long Island number. Suddenly, I've got NCIS agents from a Long Island branch I've never heard of. This case has brought too many outside factors, and I have the feeling my team is out of the loop on specific information that can make this case more manageable."
"We know as much as you do," Clarisse retorted, "And missing information comes with the job. This is a mystery. We investigate and find the answers, complications and all."
Gibbs considered her for a moment before relenting and leading them back out of the heavily secured room. "Fine. I'm going to head to the bar. McGee, get DiNozzo to call the Strawberry Farm. I also want the personal files of First Lieutenant Rodriguez and his C.O. Ziva! Gear up." He looked around at the rest of the agents expectedly.
"Er, trying to squeeze out info of Cartel movement in the area," DiNozzo said, "Not much luck."
"Talked to Abby," Ziva picked up next, "Her professors were able to translate some more of the notes. This Doughnut place is apparently definitely arms dealing with the Reynosa Cartel. Sinaloa involvement is suspected. Middle East connection is pure speculation. Michael also noted that he believed he was found out because he smelled."
DiNozzo made to comment but was silenced by a look from Gibbs.
"I'm still IDing all of Mr. Tarsibo's victims," Grover said.
"And customers," Gibbs added.
"…And customers…"
"No mention of Monster Donut on the web," Percy reported, Annabeth's laptop in hand, "Making sure that if anyone finds it, we'll be the first ones to know."
Gibbs nodded and then headed towards the elevator with Ziva in tow. Clarisse admired the way his silent command to get back to work hung in the air. Except for one problem.
Clarisse was back in the bullpen. She hated it.
-Ζήβα-
Ziva was debriefed about the meeting with the commander on the way to the Drowsy Owl.
"If the Staff Sergeant was being seen by superior officers and the Commanding Officer didn't know anything," Ziva said, "Perhaps our Staff Sergeant was granted a mission."
But why give such an advanced and dangerous mission to a mere mechanic?
"Michael Kahale had been in service for five years," Ziva said, answering her own question. "They had given him training- maybe advanced secret in-training. Kept him officially as a mechanic, using it as a cover."
"But why send him on a case that without providing him resources?" Gibbs asked.
Hm. True. Michael Kahale had lacked money, cover, and backup. The time limit was horrendously short; what he uncovered in such a short amount of time was astonishing. If he hadn't ended up dead, she would have thought that it was a controlled mission.
"You said that First Lieutenant Adrian Rodriguez responded to the mention of mythological connection. Is it possible that whatever mission the Staff Sergeant was on, was not external but internal? An internal audit? But if Rodriguez was his target, he would have responded to the reference of cartel involvement."
"What if the Cartel wasn't initially apart of this operation?" Ziva thought back to her previous line of thought. "What if Rodriguez was involved? As Michael's partner. The First Lieutenant is thought of highly as well."
"Don't get caught up on theories," Gibbs warned.
"Maybe I should just follow my gut," Ziva teased.
"It's always worked for me," Gibbs said.
"What does it say now?" Ziva asked. She looked at him when he did not answer.
"It tells me that the Long Island Agents know something that they aren't sharing."
Ziva frowned but said nothing.
They came up to the store. "See if anyone has seen Tarsibo," Gibbs said.
"Not many people to ask," Ziva grumbled.
Reshaun Sachs was beginning to blindly invite them to choose a place to sit until he looked up from pouring a pint of bitter. "Let me guess," he said, "Navy cops."
Ziva and Gibbs flashed their Identification.
"This about the young Marine or something else?"
"Same one," Gibbs said.
"Didn't realize you had such big teams."
"Neither did I."
Ziva sent Gibbs a look and decided to change the topic, unfolding the blown-up photo of Tarsibo.
"Do you recognize this man?"
"Sorry. No."
"He seems to be a customer of yours," Ziva pushed, "He may have been here during the past week."
The bartender frowned, "If he passed those doors, I would remember. Especially from this week." Ziva nodded. She didn't find him to be lying. There were other ways waste from this place could have gotten to the car rental.
"Do you mind if I talk to your customers?" Ziva asked
Sachs shrugged. "You can, but all of these guys are regulars that just come for their lunch break."
Ziva assumed as much. She left Gibbs to converse with the man.
Sachs was surprised that they had found traces of his business as far away as East Maryland. Like Gibbs, Ziva was getting her own list of negative answers.
She walked around the bar, trying to envision it on a full night with businessmen, college students, and Mrs. Kahale with her entourage. It was an open area, which meant open conversations that could be the center of attention or hidden by those that took that position. The only place that was really hidden was the way to the restrooms, which had its own hidden hallway that led to a back exit. That was where Ziva excused herself to answer her buzzing phone.
"What is it, Tony?"
"Get into any bar fights, yet?" Tony used as a greeting.
"It is still a bit early, but it has happened before."
"Well, don't go too hard on them. People who go this early are there to drown something."
Ziva thought of the three businessmen in the bar hunching over their drinks. He was too right. "As I'm sure you know, Tony."
"I'm not that old," he said.
"You are what? Forty?"
"No!"
"Mmm, but I'm close. How many years am I off?"
"…Two. I'm still young, just have a few years of experience."
Ziva hummed. She didn't tell him that she had more years until she hit thirty.
"Well, I'm sure you didn't call me just for this."
"No, I'm here to update you so you can update Gibbs."
"Why not call him instead?"
"Figured he'd be doing some unofficial interrogation. And I would never break that rule."
"Well, what do you have."
Tony sighed, "Pretty much nothing. Got in connection with the Director of the Strawberry Service, a Mr. Dee. Took forever to get a final answer. 'I have a faint recollection of an Annie Bell.'" Tony droned in imitation, "'Yes, the girl is quite a trouble seeker, although she is one of the brighter ones I have had to deal with. Says a lot about them. However, she left. I don't expect her to be back for a while.' That was fifteen minutes into the conversation. He ends with an 'I grow tired of your pitiable blather.' And just hangs up."
Ziva snickers. "Doesn't sound like a reliable witness."
Ziva could imagine Tony shrugging in the squadroom, "It's what I got."
"Alright. Thanks." Ziva hung up the phone and accidentally stumbled when she bumped into something. Or rather someone "Oh, sorry I-" Ziva stopped as she got a look at who she almost toppled. It was a young man who had just come out of the lavatory. He was of an average built, a bit on the shorter side with a head full of blonde hair. He was in some sort of customer service uniform, a nametag still latched on. But Ziva only gave it an unconscious look over. No, she was more captivated by his eyes. They were a sickly green, and the iris seemed alive, swirling like snakes in a pit. And were those scales on his cheekbones?
"Agent?"
She blinked, and all those features were gone. Snake filled eyes replaced with light hazel ones. No scales either.
"I'm sorry," She told the man who had snapped her out of her stupor. Just what was that? "For bumping into you," she specified.
He smiled at her, "No problem."
She watched him leave her, heading for the back exit. How did he know she was an Agent? Was her badge showing? No… Who was he? She searched her brain for the answers. Wait. She had seen his nametag before getting distracted by his face. (She shivered at the recollection. Was it something she ate?) Then it hit her; the nametag had a cheesy 'Hi, I'm Tommy' in Comic Sans Font. It also had a logo of a one-eyed monster munching on a doughnut.
"Monster Donuts," Ziva breathed out in realization. The back door slammed shut. "Hey!" Ziva shouted, "Wait!" She ran toward the door. Before she exited, she remembered that the store was arms dealing, and anyone connected to it should be handled as armed and dangerous. Pulling out her firearm and quickly collecting herself, she slammed her way out and was met with… no one?
Ziva surveyed the area, circling in a three-sixty. There was no one there. How could he have gone that fast? He was only out of her sight for a few seconds.
Gibbs was not going to be happy with her.
After making sure to uncover any possible hiding places, she went back inside empty-handed.
Gibbs frowned at her as she entered. Ziva trusted him to connect the dots and directed her words at Sachs.
"You didn't say you had someone in your restroom."
From the corner of her eye, she saw Gibbs change his stance, a mixture of weariness and drive to get the truth. However, the bartender seemed utterly confused. "There was? Oh, I had completely forgotten…"
Ziva shared a small look with Gibbs. Sachs seemed muddled all of a sudden. Strange and convincing. Ziva hadn't thought this man to be a good actor.
Ziva described him, more for Gibbs's benefit than Sachs's. "Yes, about this tall, blonde, green eyes, wearing a Monster Donut uniform."
Sachs's face lit up in realization. "Yes! He was one of the guys that the woman hangs out with, the one that the other agents knew, a Mrs. Kahale." His eyebrows scrunched together. "I can't believe I forgot about him coming in…"
Ziva shared another look with Gibbs. Either this man was telling the truth, or he was the best actor Ziva had encountered. Gibbs, although not outwardly changing his calm demeanor, seemed as dubious as she was.
"If he or anyone else from Monster Donuts come in," she said, "Please call us."
"They are connected with this Marko Tarsibo guy? What have they done?"
"A number of things," Ziva said.
The man gave an inquiring stare. Ziva expected that how dangerous they were could affect his business if he let continued to let them be customers at all.
"They are connected to arms dealing, Ziva said. "Also, have a connection to the death of multiple murders, including children."
"They've killed kids?" The statement seemed to call Sachs back from his confounded state. "You said that this guy was a part of this and that he was a car dealer, right?"
The agents nodded.
"The kids, were they middle-school-age? Older girl with Asian features?"
Ziva scrambled for her phone, bringing out the profiles of the most recent child victims. She shoved the phone in the man's face. "Are these them?"
"Yeah, I know them. They had come in, ordered some soda, burgers, and fries. They looked pretty street-savvy, I kept my eye on them to make sure no one slipped them anything or took an order for them. I got something about how they were headed for the Carolinas, I guess they needed a ride. That woman, Mrs. Kahale, spoke with them for a bit. I didn't hear what was said, but if they needed a ride and she knew this dealer, she could've gave them to him."
The NCIS agents didn't give him time to finish as they rushed out the door.

Percy would never get an office job. He thought being a Federal Agent would have been so exciting. Sitting on a desk doing the same thing over and over again was killing him. He kept getting distracted by the happenings outside. (Hey, those windows were huge. Not his fault the outside world was more entertaining.) He couldn't help but feel a bit guilty every time Grover would snap him out of his daydreaming. He was supposed to be helping make official profiles of each victim, so that a) the families could be notified, b) Dr. 'Ducky' could analyze and create a deeper understanding of General Botsaris and his victims, and c) so that Annabeth could report back to Chiron, and they could contact the families of the demigods.
Percy did have to admit that Tony's conversation with Mr. D was quite funny. Although, he was only able to hear one side of the conversation.
'No, not Annie Bell. Annabeth.'
'No, I am not here for strawberries.'
'Yes, wine sounds wonderful, but-'
'So, did she work there or not? What do you mean, who? Annabeth Chase!'
And it just continued. Percy had cracked up as the agent repeatedly smacked his head on his hand while talking to the exasperating god. If only he knew how it felt to deal with Mr. D on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis.
Unfortunately, that was what felt like an hour ago. McGee had sent a file to Tony a while later and was on his way to escape to 'help Abby run prints.'
"I'll be using the system," McGee told Grover and Percy, "Hopefully, it won't slow down too much."
"It shouldn't be a problem." Annabeth walked in, looking a bit disgruntled after her talk with Chiron. "Although we are using the same system, it's coding and routes have changed, meaning it can still use the data and have access to an ever-updating network while not really using the same path and program you'll be using."
Percy would have totally zoned out from that explanation if it wasn't for Grover nudging him to make another profile.
McGee made a face. "You can do that?"
"Not really. It's the computer."
"What are the specs?" McGee leaned in to check Daedalus' laptop's design. "What's the brand? I don't recognize it."
"It's experimental."
"Huh, well I'm going to-"
"Not so fast, probie," Tony called.
Percy looked up. Tony had better not been calling for him. He eased up when it was apparent he was talking to McGee.
"Rodriguez also uses disposable, pre-paid phones," Tony said, "But he makes regular family calls. If we searched his family's phone records, we would find a record of regular calls coming in but from different numbers? Wouldn't that be the case if Michael did the same?"
"But we already checked the Kahale's phone records, Tony," McGee said.
"No. We only checked Patricia Kahale's, and she said she didn't even know Michael even joined the Marines. Daddy, however, had a better relationship."
"And when Percy and I spoke with him," Annabeth said, "He gave me the impression that he knew about Michael joining."
"McGee, pop up the man's phone calls," Tony said.
McGee shared his screen on the plasma. Window screens flashed on and off as McGee used keyboard shortcuts lightning quick, even using long sequences of code that Percy didn't know could be memorized.
"Okay, filtering for numbers that are no longer in service."
"Wow, that's a long list," Percy said. They weren't going to have to go through some sort of procedure on each one, were they?
"He is a lawyer," Grover said, "He must get tons of scam and calls from one-time numbers."
"It doesn't matter," Annabeth said.
"What do you mean it doesn't matter," Percy asked. Was Annabeth okay? How bad was the call with Chiron?
"I mean, I've found what we're looking for." She pointed to a six-minute call starting 12:52 A.M. yesterday morning. That was right before the approximate time of death.
"It's not the same number the Staff Sergeant used," Tony said.
"A spare phone," Clarisse said, "He uses one phone call on a pre-paid, dumps it, and then uses the second to make another call."
A demigod technique. Annabeth and Chiron told him of it when he went outside of camp. The only time it was safe to keep a phone after making a call on it was in or right by camp. Otherwise, it was a traveling beacon for monsters.
"The father made the call," Tony said, "McGee, can you find the location where the burner picked up?"
McGee clicked a couple of times. "Washington, D.C."
"Alright," Tony said. "I'll call Gibbs, and we'll pick him up."
"Sweet, let's go," Percy said.
"Wait, Percy," Grover said with big eyes, effectively killing Percy's hope. "I still need your help with this."
"It's fine. We got this," Tony said, him and McGee rushing toward the elevator.
Percy watched them as they disappeared with a ding. Great, the three people that were the least qualified for desk jobs were the ones left at the desks. At least they had Grover to stop them from accidentally blowing up the place and being labeled as domestic terrorists, yet the way the satyr was inhaling those paper clips didn't bode well.
The phone at Tony's desk started to ring. The four of them stared at it for a second. "Should we get Tony back?" Percy asked.
"Ugh," Clarisse rolled her eyes. What? What did he say? Gods, she was just so annoying. 'And rude,' he added as he watched her get up and answer the cop's phone, but he already knew that.
"Yeah," Clarisse greeted. She was silent for the ten seconds as the caller spoke. Percy wasn't even surprised as the daughter of Ares slammed the phone back down without another word.
"They found Botsaris's car," Clarisse said.
'That at least deserved a 'Thank You,' was Percy's immediate thought.
Annabeth jumped up. "Let's go."
Finally! "Did you get the address?" Percy asked, excited to get out.
"Duh."
Grover looked around as all of them got ready to head out. "Um, should we tell-"
"No!" Clarisse and Annabeth both said, or growled in one case.
Grover held his hands up in surrender. "Okay."
Percy made sure everything he needed was on him and swept the desk clear of a small pile of broken pen clips. When had those gotten there?
"Let's kick some butt!" Clarisse grinned. Percy couldn't agree more.

The Codependency Competition Ch.7
Hey guys! I'm back. And I'm determined to write until this chapter is long and amazing. Also, do you guys want me to start naming the chapters with actual titles instead of chapter #s? If so, just let me know and I'll do it! Even for just one person! You also need to tell me how long you want this story to be. That way I can plan on what to write. Honestly, I could end this story on this chapter, so... Comment, like, and follow!
Happy reading and stay safe,
your author
P.S. I just reread the last chapter, and I totally cringed at that last part. Sorry if you did, too.
ΩΩΩ
When they woke up the next morning, everything went back to normal. Well, as normal as it can get for two teenage demigods. They woke up, they ate breakfast, they walked to school, and they started class. Nobody mentioned last night's episode. Not even Percy's parents, who most definitely heard her screams. They'd learned that it was best to let Percy and Annabeth work things out on their own, in their own way. Anyway, there weren't any mishaps whatsoever, and that was what worried Annabeth. It felt too silent. Like the calm before the storm. And when Annabeth gets a feeling, she's almost always right.
During lunch is when it happened. The ADHD part of her brain was wondering why it was always lunch that had bad things happen during it.
At her table, Annabeth and her friends were just minding their own business, talking about whatever the newest gossip going around the school was, when tragedy struck. Ok, it wasn't a tragedy, but it was definitely shocking. Annabeth's been spending too much time around Percy; her dramatic side was coming out way too often nowadays.
Percy and his friends sat down at their table. Her friends and her all wore similar shocked expressions, unable to form a coherent sentence.
Last time, it was just Percy, and it wasn't as stare-inducing. Now, Percy and all of his close friends, the popular group, were sitting at the "nerd" table.
Of COURSE everyone was shocked.
"Hey, 'Beth," Percy said, taking a bite of his sandwich.
Annabeth was fully prepared to start ranting about how he knows full well to never use nicknames made out of her full name, but then stopped herself. He was just trying to provoke her. Wow, he wants this competition to end more than she thought. Well, the jokes on him cuz' she's not gonna break.
"Hi..." she answered, faking confusion now that she had figured out what was happening.
Her friend was another story, though. They all turned to her with various emotions displayed on their faces; confusion, anger, surprise, even curiosity. The curious one was Addison, of course. The facial expressions varied between personalities.
"Wha-you ju-huh?" Noah stammered, unable to make sense of what was going on around him.
He, like all of Annabeth's friends, had learned about her hatred for nicknames. Well, they thought it was all types of nicknames, but that wasn't completely true. One person was allowed to give her a nickname, and that person just so happened to be sitting across from them.
"What's going on, guys?" Chloe asked, clearly in one the plan to sabotage all of Annabeth's hard work.
Annabeth narrowed her eyes at her before answering, "Not much. Just talking about how apparently THE Percy Jackson was caught making out with someone behind the school. You?"
She smirked to herself as she looked over at Percy with raised eyebrows. Percy just can't learn that he has no chance of winning, can he?
By the look of his face, Percy was trying to come up with some excuse as to why that rumor was going around. It obviously wasn't true, but he was too caught up in his shock to realize that.
Percy's friends looked over at their friend, silently asking what do we do now? This was NOT part of the plan, but Percy should have known to come with a Plan B when trying to outsmart a daughter of Athena. Ok, maybe not outsmart, but outmaneuver (even that is pretty far fetched, though).
It was quite amusing to a certain grey-eyed girl, really.
"What's wrong, Percy? Cat got your tongue?" Noah asked, not choosing the pass up the opportunity to get some pay-back on the cool kids.
"Shut up, Noah," Annabeth snapped on instinct.
She wasn't able to catch herself before the words had left her mouth. Her other friends were staring at her in shock and Noah looked like he was about to say something he would probably regret later. If anyone had bothered to look over, they would've seen the relief on Percy and his friends' faces. That comment was able to snap Percy out of whatever ADHD stupor he was in, and he was now looking at Annabeth with raised eyebrows and a smirk, almost most to ask, what're going to do now?
And that's when Noah's anger-filled floodgates burst open, "Unbelievable! Why are you protecting them? They're jerks and you know it! You know what they did to me!"
Screw it, Annabeth thought.
"You have no right to say that! You don't even know them! Was it even them who did it to you? Huh?" She yelled back as she stood up, attracting the attention of the entire cafeteria.
Everyone was watching the fight like a tennis match, waiting to see who would lose. Unbeknownst to them, Annabeth never loses.
"No right?! You've barely even TALKED to him! What gives YOU the right to defend them!" Noah screamed back, standing up too and getting in Annabeth's face.
Wow. How oblivious can someone be? If Annabeth is protecting Percy, doesn't that mean they know each other? All of her other friends seemed to come to that conclusion, but apparently Noah was too mad to realize it. Oh, well. Let him get it out. He's probably been holding this in for awhile by the way things have escalated so quickly.
"He's my boyfriend!" Annabeth finally screamed.
The entire cafeteria went silent. So silent that you could hear a pin drop.
Percy didn't seem to know what to do. He just kinda stood there, flabbergasted, like everyone else.
Annabeth was practically radiating pride. She didn't care that she technically lost, all she cared about was Percy. So what if she was wrong ONE TIME. She loved Percy and that was enough for her. Who needs a silly competition when you can have the best boy in the world?
Since he didn't look like he was going to do it, Annabeth took the initiative and walked over to Percy, pulled him down to her, and kissed him. It took Percy a couple seconds to catch on, but when he did, the kiss was one of the most passionate they had ever shared in front of people. The whole world faded away; it was just the two of them.
Yeah, it was one of those kisses.
They only pulled away when people started clapping and wolf-whistling. But even then, Percy still kept an arm around her shoulders while they looked around. Pink tinted both their cheeks in embarrassment, but Percy still had the biggest smile on his face anyone had ever seen. And it wasn't because he had won, it was because he finally had his girlfriend back. Well, ok, maybe a small part of it was because he had just beat Annabeth Chase.
"Wanna get outta here, Chase?" Percy whispered in her ear.
She nodded slightly, and he led her through the crowd that had formed.
Why had a crowd formed? It wasn't some big event! They had just kissed. In front of the whole school. Very passionately. After Annabeth had just screamed that he was her boyfriend. Oh, crap.
They didn't even bother to finish the rest of the school day. Percy just texted Paul to sign them out and then left.
Back in the cafeteria, hundreds of conversations had started up as soon as the couple had left. Percy's friends seemed to try to act like they didn't know anything, but it wasn't working. At least not for everyone. Addison was very perceptive. As soon as Annabeth had made her announcement, everything had clicked. It was so obvious! She had to talk to Annabeth. So she took off after the retreating lovers, trying to figure out if her friend had ever mentioned where she lived.
"Hey, Addison!" Someone called after her when she was in the hallway.
She turned around to find all of Percy's closest friends standing a couple yards away from her. They all had knowing looks on their faces. She figured they already knew about the relationship.
But why would Annabeth tell them when her best friends didn't know yet? Were they even best friends?
"Looking for where she lives?" Mikes asked, referring to Annabeth.
"Yeah, where is it?" Addison said, wondering how they knew, but decided against asking.
The teens shared a look that Addison wasn't able to decipher, but it looked like they were about to share some big secret that would shock anyone into silence. What could be bigger than her best friend hiding an entire relationship from her?
"Percy's," Mike answered.
"'Percy's' what? What do you mean?" Surely he couldn't be saying what she thinks he's saying.
"Percy and Annabeth live together," Chloe cut in, cleanly answering so there was no room for confusion.
It's that serious?! Oh, well. That doesn't matter. I need them to take me to their house right now, she thought.
"Take me there," Addison ordered, not caring that she was ordering around some of the most influential people in the school.
"Sure," Chloe shrugged and started to exit the school, "We need to talk to them, too."
ΩΩΩ
I know this could've been longer, but I thought that I would try and give you guys as many chapters as possible. This one was still a little longer than the last, though. So that's something.
You guys like bossy Addison? Cuz' I definitely do. I didn't even plan on making her character develop throughout the story, but it just did. I went with the flow, just like Percy would.
Oh, and btw, did you guys notice my little comment on Percy being the perfect boy? Fictional characters have completely ruined my standards for boyfriends.
You guys know I have to thank JJ, or nightskywithrainbows, right? Of course you do! But they still deserve WAY MORE than a shoutout, so go read their stories on Ao3! (Their amazing!)
Anyway, comment, like, and follow! Stay safe and happy reading!

Marching On 2: The Auditions
I’m happy with how well received this story has been! The engagement definitely makes me want to keep pumping out chapters for this AU, even if they take a while. These chapters are pretty long. Fair warning, this one is kinda heavy on drum line, but I also used it to explain some stuff for later on. I hope it’s all understandable! More after the story!
ALSO ON AO3 HERE
XxXxXxXxX
Pausing outside the door, Percy was starting to feel a little nervous. Today was the day of tryouts and he was going in with barely any practice in snare drumming. A week ago he couldn’t have cared less about it, but now he was actually feeling nervous.
He was pretty sure that it wasn’t because he was invested in band. His opinion of it had moved from lame to “pretty okay”. The first week had been fine overall. They went over the basics of how the year long class worked, how much money they needed to provide and what fundraisers were available throughout the year to help out. They had even had their first lesson on music theory, which confused him quite a bit but Piper was helping him out so he could at least read music now. Plus he found it a little easier to study than the normal junk he had to for school. Music was rewarding when you learned it at least, you could make a cool sound or melody.
No, he was mostly nervous that he was going to make a fool of himself. He had seen the options for drumline, and he was pretty sure the snare was the coolest to him. But also usually the most popular according to Piper so that meant he was going to have to pull off something.
“Nervous?”
Piper said suddenly, making him jump. He hadn’t noticed her approaching. She just laughed, throwing an arm over his shoulder. “You’ll be fine. If you have two talents, it’s getting in to trouble, and pulling through sketchy situations by some miracle.” She teased. Percy glared slightly, but couldn’t exactly argue with her. It was pretty accurate.
Removing her arm, she just shifted and leaned against the wall next to him. “I’m honestly surprised you’re willingly here. I figured you would have ran away after class ended. You staying after school for band? Who would have thought.” She said, a hint of teasing in her tone, but she looked sideways at him showing a genuine interest.
Percy shrugged. “I told you guys, I’m going to try it out at least. Besides, my mom has been really happy that I’ve been going and I kinda owe her for not signing me up for military school or something. It’s nice seeing her smile.” He confessed, looking off to the side away from his friend, already knowing her reaction.
Piper just let out a soft coo at him. “There’s hope for you yet.” She teased, pulling off his beanie to mess with his hair, before pulling it over her own head and heading into the band room.
Percy followed her, trying to fix his horrible case of beanie-hair from wearing it all day.
“What are you doing here anyway, are you trying out for drumline?”
Piper laughed at him. “Please. I’m actually trying out for color guard this year. Tryouts are today as well.”
She turned to see his dumbfounded expression and rolled her eyes. “Flags.”
“Oh!” Percy announced, finally understanding. “Why is called color guard? Are you like supposed to protect the band with those poles?” He asked, earning a sign from Piper who just ignored his stupid question.
All the chairs that normally filled the band room had been stacked neatly along the walls, freeing up most of the room. There were large drums on harnesses lined up in a semi-circle and a smattering of students gathered around. Annabeth caught their eye and made her way over. “You showed up, I’m impressed. Piper said you might bail.”
Percy shot a glare at his friend who just stuck her tongue out. “You have to admit there was like a fifty percent chance.”
“Maybe.”
Annabeth let out a laugh and smiled at him. “Well you’re here, and that’s all that matters. Based off your playing, I’m sure you can get a spot.”
Percy rubbed the back of his neck. “I hope so.”
The blonde turned to Piper. “So you’re trying for color guard this year?”
Setting her bag next to where Percy had stowed his, Piper turned around. “Yeah, I think I am. Marching is fun, but seeing Hazel and Silena having so much fun last year made me want to try it out.”
Annabeth grinned. “That’s awesome. I know you’ll do amazingly. Just listen to Hylla and I’m sure you won’t have much issue getting on the line.”
Piper nodded. “Hylla is teaching it again? Awesome. She seemed cool.” Looking over at Percy who was clearly out of place in the conversation but didn’t exactly have anywhere else to go. “Sorry. Reyna’s older sister. She graduated a while ago. She runs colorguard here now. Strict, but a beautiful dancer and she’s the reason our colorguard always gets great scores.
Percy nodded. “I see. Stricter than Reyna?” He said, pausing at the thought. Reyna already put on a tough act, he couldn’t imagine what her older sister would be like if she was even more serious. He had a feeling she wouldn’t like him much.
Both girls laughed at his expression, so he clearly wasn’t hiding it well.
“Don’t worry. Drumline has its own instructor. Honestly you’ll probably get along with her well. Or hate her. Either or.” Annabeth offered with a shrug while Percy didn’t exactly feel much more reassured.
“What’s he like?” Percy asked, suddenly worried he was going to have to deal with a hardass for drumline. Which probably wouldn’t end well, and end up with him quitting if he was honest with himself. He really did have a problem with authority.
Annabeth raised an eyebrow. “She’s… probably not what you’re imagining.”
Just then the doors on the other side of the band room flew open and a woman with a short pixie cut walked in, a bag and drumsticks in one hand while the other was filled with a starbucks cup. Her foot was raised from where she pulled open the door with her foot.
“‘Sup Nerds.”
She said, smirking from behind her sunglasses.
Every preconceived notion had just shattered to pieces, meanwhile Annabeth just ran over and over and once the woman set down her bag and sticks, she pulled Annabeth into a tight hug.
“Thalia!” Annabeth said, grinning ear to ear.
Piper dragged Percy by the hand over to her.
“Hey Thalia.”
Piper said, giving her a quick hug too. Thalia just grinned at her and return the hug. “Long time no see.”
Meanwhile Percy was staring at her. “Thalia? Grace?”
“‘Sup?” She said, shifting her eyes towards him.
Annabeth was still all giddy while she motioned to Percy. “This is Percy. New this year, trying out for drumline.” She explained, but this was still the happiest Percy had seen Annabeth. Ever Piper seemed thrilled to see her.
Thalia removed her sunglasses, hanging them on the front of her shirt. “Wait. Jackson?” A grin crept across her face as messed his hair up. “Hey cuz, it’s been years.”
Both of the other girls stared between them surprised.
“You know each other?”
Percy just smiled and shared a brief hug with her. “Kinda. When I was really little I used to go to some family reunions on my dad’s side. Our dads are brothers but I haven’t seen her in years.”
Thalia nodded. “You were like 5 the last time I saw you. You got big.”
Percy shifted his gaze towards Annabeth. “How do you know her? You seem like you two have a history.”
Annabeth nodded. “Thalia was a senior when I was a freshman. She was center snare here, then went off and was center snare at Olympus University for four years. She’s the reason I joined band in the first place. I owe her a lot.”
The older woman just grinned and threw her arm around Annabeth’s shoulders. “I missed you a lot too. We don’t see each other nearly enough anymore. College was busy. But when Hedge quit, Chiron called me. Asked if I would be willing to coach you guys. Figured my music degree could be useful for something after all.” She said with a laugh.
“Ms. Grace! It’s good to see you again.” Chiron’s voice cut in. “Do you have a minute?”
Thalia nodded, rubbing Annabeth’s shoulder once before she walked past them to go talk to Chiron.
Jason wandered over not to long after looking after Thalia.
“It’s gonna be weird having my sister coach me.” He offered, but his grin showed he didn’t mind much.
“We’re cousins?” Percy asked Jason, surprised.
“We are?” Jason countered.
“You are.” Annabeth offered.
Percy frowned, rubbing his neck. “I don’t remember seeing you at the reunions.”
The blonde thought for a moment. “Probably because I was with my mom. My parent’s divorced shortly after I was born. Dad got Thalia, Mom got me.” He offered, a hint of sadness in his tone that Percy felt bad inducing. “Still, we’re family now I guess. Can I borrow money?” He teased, earning a laugh from Jason.
“Maybe if I had any.” He countered.
Another tall woman entered the room, a bag over her shoulder with various long objects sticking out of it.
“Hylla!” Piper said, moving over to talk to her.
The woman offered her a patient smile, staring to chat with her. Percy realized that must be the color guard instructor.
Jason nudged Percy’s arm. “Come on, I’ll show you the snares a little before we start. Just so you can see what they’re like. It’s not like a set.”
As they moved towards the drums, they saw that guy from the other day, Tyler enter the room too. Ashe was already at his side and they both had cups of coffee. Percy had a sneaking suspicion that Ashe had dragged him in here today a lot like Piper did.
Jason was standing next to the line of five snare drums. They were much longer than normal snare drums, and had metal harnesses attached to them. “Here.” He offered, lifting one up. Stepping forward, Percy ducked his head slightly as the harness slipped over it, resting on his shoulders. He shifted, trying to get used to the sudden increase of weight in front of him, and the metal harness that wasn’t quite cushioned enough to be comfortable. Apparently he looked as uncomfortable as he felt because Jason let out a slight laugh before he effortless slipped one on himself. “You’ll get used to it. It’s really awkward at first, especially once we start marching. The weight hanging out front isn’t really comfortable ever though.”
Percy nodded, fidgeting with the harness again. He could already tell his shoulders would be sore after a while in this.
“Here.” Jason said, grabbing a sweater and draping it over the top of the snare, pulling it pretty flat. He hit the top of snare and it was a much more muffled sound.
“I’m pretty sure Thalia would kill us if we started playing normally before it was time. It’s loud.” To prove a point, he hit a single accented note on his snare and the entire room turned to look at him. Even Percy flinched slightly at the sudden noise that he knew was coming.
Thalia shot him a glare and he raised his hands.
“Just proving a point. Promise.”
She did the two fingers “I’m watching you” gesture, though she was smiling as she turned back to Chiron.
Jason just laughed and moved a sweater over his own drum, before tapping it and show how much more muted it was.
“You can see why we usually practice outdoors.”
Percy nodded, noticing the bag hanging from the side of the snare.
“Sticks.” Jason answered following his gaze. “We tend to include stick tricks into the show, and flips don’t always go right. Sometimes you drop a stick and the last thing you want to do is be stuck without one and having to play with one stick. They will give you points for playing it off well, but it’s still not the best option so always have some spares on you.”
“Makes sense.” Was Percy’s reply.
“First things first. Snare drum sticks.” He held out a set to Percy.
Percy’s eyes widened slightly. “The hell?” Earning a laugh from Jason, and Piper who had made her way over.
The drumstick was about twice the size of a normal drumstick and way heavier.
“These are what we use for marching snares. It definitely takes a while to get used to, but use need the weight to get the sound right.” Jason explained mechanically, and Percy had a feeling he had said it a few times before.
Tentatively Percy played a few muted notes, everything about it feeling wrong. It strained his wrists in a way he wasn’t used to and the snare was super bouncy, even through the sweater.
“One last thing, do you know how to hold sticks traditional?” He asked, flipping his left stick around and holding it underhanded.
Percy stared at the stick, then at him. “Like… jazz right?”
Jason nodded. “Yeah, Jazz players tend to use it too. But that’s how snare drummers drum in drumline.
Awkwardly, Percy flipped the stick around and tried hitting the snare a few times. Jason had a tightlipped smile, as he was clearly trying not to laugh at Percy.
“This is stupid.” Percy mumbled, unable to get his left hand to behave as well as he needed it to.
Jason laughed. “You get used to it.” He said, patting him on the shoulder. He looked off to the side, and saw another student standing around a snare, looking awkward. Jason nodded at him before moving off to help the other guy. Percy continued to flail a bit, feeling his left elbow bouncing up and down as he tried to drum right. “Shit.” He muttered again, as the stick slipped out of his hands and clattered.
He tried to bend down to get it, but the harness was awkward and restricting his movement.
“Here, I got it.” Piper said, handing him back his stick. “How’s it feel?”
Percy shifted slightly. “Heavy. And awkward. Drumming like this is so unnatural.” He complained.
Piper laughed. “It does look pretty bad. But when you see good snare drummers do it? In sync? It’s actually super badass.” She offered. Piper rolled her eyes when she saw his doubtful look. “You’ll see in a bit, I’m sure. Trust me.”
Nodding, Percy went back to trying to find a motion that seemed even relatively natural to him.
“All right boy scouts, let’s do this.” Thalia’s voice boomed, cutting through the murmurs and muted drumming. Everyone looked over, seeing Thalia standing with a hand on her hip grinning at the group of hopefuls.
“Color guard with me. We’re going to hold our auditions in the gym. Let’s move.” Hylla called out, giving a nod to Thalia before they ushered the group of girls out of the room. Piper had given Percy a pat on the back on her way out, wishing him luck.
“So who here is new to drumline? I heard from Chiron we have a bunch of new people and a tight schedule.”
Percy raised his hand, and glanced around. Maybe a third of the people were also raising their hands. Tyler was standing next to a weird set of four drums next to two other guys Percy didn’t recognize.
“That’s a lot of you. But that means I have a bunch of raw talent to beat into shape.” Thalia offered. “We’re going to break up auditions into each set. Feel free to try out for different drums if you want. I may call on people if we need more filled.”
She paused, looking around. “Let’s just get the snares over with.”
Everyone looked nervous who was new and Percy felt his pulse race a bit. It seemed Thalia didn’t like wasting time.
“So snare drums are the flashiest of the group. They have the most stick tricks, they drum in unison often, and if we actually get good there’s a lot of fun you can do with drumming on other people’s drums as well. But for now you just need to worry about hitting it in time. Percy, come here.” She ordered, surprising him.
He walked over, anxiety starting to spike. Thalia ripped off the hoodie that was still draped over it and tossed it across the room. “These are loud. Get used to it.” She held out her hand for his sticks and he offered them to her, before holding onto the harness awkwardly.
With a sharp hit, she did a loud note hitting the drum. Percy flinched again, much to his annoyance.
“It’s much worse indoors, but if you’re marching with it you need to get used to not hearing much aside from the drums while you’re playing.”
She grabbed Percy’s drum, shifting him so he was parallel to the group and stood in front of him, taking up a proper stance on the other side of his drum. “Stay still.” She ordered him, smirking.
“Playing isn’t just about hitting the right note at the right time. I’ll go over the details later, but it’s all about putting on a show. When the attention is supposed to be on you, make sure they never look away.”
Percy glanced over at the students watching with intensity. Annabeth was in the back of the room, giving him a patient encouraging smile.
Another sharp hit had Percy’s head snap back to Thalia who was grinning.
“Now watch.” Another sharp hit, before she hit her stick three times, and she started counting down.
“Jason, pay attention. I need you up here next.” She said, right before she started playing. Percy’s jaw dropped at it as he watched it close up. Her playing was mesmerizing. Switching seemlessly between fast and slow notes, some notes were sharp while others buzzed a little on the drum. Then she started adding in stick tricks, spinning them and tossing them effortlessly as she played. The entire time her sharp blue eyes were staring directly at him, a very intentional smirk never faltering.
She finished with one last little flair of notes, before she thrust her hands down at her sides. Percy noted she was breathing slightly heavier but her eyes were still piercing into him. Intimidated hardly covered how he felt.
“Holy shit.” He muttered.
The room broke into applause as he looked over to Annabeth was just beaming at him with a smug look. He could hear her thoughts practically.
Told you it was cool.
“Jason, come on. Let’s show them what it’s like when it’s synced up.”
Jason walked over with his drum, pulling out a set of sticks. “You’re kidding me right? That was like an entire solo. People can’t memorize that instantly.”
Thalia rolled her eyes. “Some center snare you are.” She teased. “You still remember last year’s show right? Start of the closer. I think I remember it enough from helping you. Here, Percy give me that snare real quick.”
He quickly pulled it over his head, handing it to her. “Why didn’t you ask for it first.”
Thalia laughed and winked at him. “Cause I heard you don’t know how cool drumline is yet, and stubborn asses like you need to be shown first hand.”
Percy was just quiet and as he went back to the group. As much as her cocky attitude pissed him off, she was completely right. Her show had completely enthralled him. He couldn’t even fairly call that lame if he wanted to.
Thalia put on her drum and Jason came back with a sheet of music. “I still have it, thankfully.” He grabbed a music stand and put it on it, tapping out a few notes.
Thalia leaned in, muttering to herself as she watched it and tapped out some parts as well.
“Okay, we’ll go to the quad fill here. You got it?”
Jason nodded. “Yeah, I messed around with it to stay practiced over the summer. You good?”
Thalia scoffed at him. “You do know I played center snare for 4 years in college right? That stuff is harder than what you do here. I’ll be fine.” She said. “Here.”
She counted off, and soon they were playing in harmony.
Percy had to admit he was impressed. He had never seen two people move in sync so well before. Their sticks were flying up and down, clacking on the rim of the drum, before buzzing perfectly in sync. It was still hard to wrap his head around the precision.
Eventually they stopped and another small round of applause happened.
“You were dragging.” Thalia said to Jason.
Jason rolled his eyes. “You were rushing. You hit the paradiddles and sped through them. I had to speed up to catch up.”
Thalia narrowed her eyes. “Don’t talk back to your teacher. I have way more experience than you, kid.” She said, making him squirm for a moment. “Besides, those are separate things. Me rushing the paradiddles had nothing to do with you dragging the low buzzes. Don’t blame your screw ups on mine.” She said, sticking out her tongue and smirking at him.
He rolled his eyes. “Yes, ma’am.”
Thalia laughed before turning back to the group. “My idiot brother aside, we have five snare drums so let’s have… Percy, Leo, Jason can stay, Clarrise and Bianca.” They all made their way up and Thalia handed Percy back the snare. It took a minute for some harnesses to be adjusted. From what Percy could tell, Jason and Clarisse both played snares last year so they were probably guaranteed a spot on the line. The rest of them were up for the same spots, along with a few others sitting down.
Once they were lined up, Thalia moved to the front of them holding out her sticks in the awkward traditional grip.
“Okay everyone, hold your sticks like this.” She said, looking at each of their hands before she moved over to Percy first. “Here, shift the stick up and keep your middle finger loose and bounce it here…” She moved his fingers around a bit, until they were in something that looked more like what she did but felt even more uncomfortable.
All the new people had their grips corrected as Thalia stepped back.
“Okay, we’re going to start simple. Jason will count off a tempo, then were going to do 8 4 2 1, then back up. So Eight hits with the right hand, then left, then 4 right, then left hand etc. We’ll do one of each hand twice then go back up. It’s really important to pay attention to your sticking patterns. It makes a very big difference for both practical and showy reasons.” She turned to her brother. “Okay, Jason. Take it slow to start. Like 80 bpm at eighth notes. Here, watch.”
She said, grabbing Jason’s sticks and doing the pattern on her drum after counting it off.
They all watched closely, except for clarisse who seemed exceedingly bored. Then again, if she had already marched snare he doubted this was even noteworthy.
“The most important thing is don’t stop if you screw up. I don’t care if you have to stop, take a deep breath, and join back in. Do that, it’s fine. Collect yourself then get back right back on track. This is a test of how well you handle pressure as much as it is how well you can keep a rhythm. “I can fix bad playing, I can’t fix a weak will.” She said.
“Enough rambling now though. Jason, count it.”
Jason stood up straight, before counting off a leisurely pace. Percy took a deep breath and prepared.
It was slow enough, especially after his drumming experience so the first eight hits weren’t bad. They switched the left hand and what was a relatively uniform sound ended up being a disaster. Ever Thalia winced at the sound, but a smile was creeping on her face. “Keep going!” She called out over the drums. “4 now!” The sound was anything but smooth, but Percy pushed on. His left hand was starting to hurt a bit and he couldn’t get a comfortable grip but the pattern wasn’t screwing him up. At least until they got the single notes. He forgot they were supposed to repeat the single notes and fumbled. Pausing, he felt things starting to crash and burn.
Out of the corner of his eye he caught Annabeth’s. She made a dramatic motion with her hands of breathing in and out. Percy paused a beat or two, glancing at Jason’s sticks to see him switch. Hopping back in, he hadn’t missed too many notes and Thalia was looking at him with an approving grin.
Eventually they ended and Thalia was laughing.
The new people shared some nervous looks, and Thalia raised her hand in apology as he tried to regain her composure. “You guys did fine. But watching you all try to drum with your left hand, your elbows were waving everywhere like chickens. I never get tired of seeing that.”
She said, wiping a tear from her eye.
Clarisse was snickering too while Jason rolled with his eyes with a slight smile.
“Everyone I teach has to do that their first time. It’s initiation. For now though, everyone can go back to the regular grip. If you march snare you WILL have to learn traditional grip. But I’m more worried about rhythm and pattern right now. “We’ll try it again, and you can stick normally. Except Jason and Clarisse. Don’t get lazy. Accent the switches properly and softer on the off beats.” She said, with a pointed look at the two veterans.
Jason counted it off again, and the sound was much better this time. Even Thalia seemed impressed.
Percy had been hyper aware of the single note switches so he managed to avoid screwing them up, and being able to stick how he was used to took a lot of the pressure off as well.
“Good.” Thalia said when they finished. “Looks like you all have rhythm at least.”
For the next little while, Thalia ran them through another few basic exercises. On one of them, she even had them stand on one foot then switch to test their balance for marching, which Percy was not graceful at in the least. Then she had them sit down and let a few other students come up to try out the snare.
Once everyone who wanted to try the snare went she smiled. “Good job. Now the quads. Frank, if you will?”
A large man walked over wearing that weird set of drums Percy noticed before. It had four large drums in a half circle with two tiny drums on the inside near the harness.
“These are quads. The most melodic of the drums in a sense. The most like a set, but they’re heavy and kind of awkward. A little less flashy, but they have their own kind of presence on the field. Frank, do you remember any of the show last year?”
Frank nodded. “Yes, ma’am.”
A wry smile crept across Thalia’s face. “Ma’am? You’re polite. I like that. You got the spot. Sit down.” She said, before laughing. “I’m kidding. Just play what you remember for a bit.”
Frank nodded and counted off a tempo. Percy had to admit, quads were impressive. His hands moved around a lot more than they did with snare. While snare looked super technical, this was different. He was balancing moving to different drums with a smooth tempo. It looked intimidating in its own way.” He finished and looked to Thalia who seemed impressed. “Damn, nice job. You probably won’t have any issue in college if you continue playing. That was solid drumming.”
“Now who wants to give it a try?”
The room looked at each other, everyone nervous after that performance.
Percy considered raising his hand for it, it reminded him of set a bit.
“You, come up.” Thalia said pointing somewhere behind Percy.
Looking around, he saw Tyler had his hand up. He seemed a little pale, but he had his hand raised.
Thalia grinned at him. “Don’t worry. Quads are a beast in their own right. Messing up is fine, like I said. Just don’t give up.”
Thalia helped him get settled in the harness, adjusting it to a good height before he stood a little awkwardly next to Frank. Frank gave him a friendly smile, showing him a good place to hold out his arms.
“We’ll start with the same exercise. Except every time you change numbers, move to the next drum. Frank, show him.”
Frank nodded before playing the same one Percy had started with, but each time he reduced the number of hits he jumped to the next on in the circle before going back up.
Tyler was watching Frank with a deadly focus, his own hands mirroring Frank’s as Frank played. Percy could see Thalia staring at Tyler’s hands too.
“Ready?” She said as Frank counted it off.
Tyler started off pretty smooth, but when he was switching to the double hits, his stick hit in between the drums and you could see the panic set in. He tried to get back on track, but didn’t manage to until they were almost back on the eights.
The room clapped for him, but Percy was close enough to see how tight Tyler was gripping his sticks out of frustration. “Okay, not bad. Next let-”
“Can we try again?” Tyler blurted out, before his eyes widened. “Sorry.”
Thalia just looked at him for a moment, a grin creeping on her face. “Of course. I like that. One more time, Frank.”
Frank was also grinning. “Yeah.” He counted it off and Percy saw Tyler silently counting with him. He was focusing sharply again and this time he made it through without much issue. Thalia was smirking as they finished. “Much better. Nice focus, kid. Next is..”
Thalia ran him through some more exercises before letting a few other people try. Percy had even hopped up there, but he found he didn’t like quads nearly as much as he thought he might. The drums were low, and the weight was super annoying as it kept pulling him forward. The multiple drums were fun, but it didn’t really have the same vibe as doing a fill on a set.
Eventually everyone who wanted a chance went and she moved over to the last line of drums.
“These are the bass drums. We have five, some lines have more, some less. This drum is both the most simple, and the hardest. Each drum makes up a part of a group.” She hit the smallest drum, which had a relatively light tom-sounding hit. Then she moved towards the biggest one which had a loud resounding dull hit to it, hitting each one in between.
“Bass drums have cool fills, but their parts are split between each drum. So excellent rhythm is a must and dedication. You can do cool drum fills on basses, and when a full bass line is in sync, it’s wicked. Seeing five people play the same part split between them is incredible, if not a little under appreciated. But if you screw up it sounds muddy.” She explained.
“Beckendorf, you were fifth right?”
A large man stood up and made his way over to the biggest bass drum. Percy was genuinely impressed as the man hoisted it over his shoulders and put on the harness. There was no way he could see around it, the top of it went a good foot past his head.
“For this one, we’ll get some people to try it out because it’s a team effort.”
She gathered some students, including a set of twins who all tried it out. Their exercises were similar, switching between hitting the large sides of the drums, then having them try and go up and down the line one at a time on rhythm. Percy didn’t try out for that one, because he didn’t feel confident enough about his teamwork to try and tackle that challenge. A flashy snare fit him much better.
A little while later they all wrapped up and everyone was looking nervous.
“Great job everyone, honestly. I know how scary auditions can be, and the fact you got up here and flailed around is half the battle. The school has a limited number of spots, and I’m going to chat with Chiron a little more before announcing tomorrow. If you don’t get a post, there are plenty of positions open in pit that will need to be filled, and I’m talking to Chiron to see if we can get a Cymbal line going as well. For now though, thank you all for coming and I look forward to working with those of you who make it.” She finished, offering a salute.
Everyone stood up and started murmuring. Around the middle of the bass drum auditions color guard had made their way back in to watch them and Piper made her way to Percy after it was over.
“How’d it go?” She asked, studying his face for any signs.
Percy shrugged. “I think pretty well. The fact I’ve drummed before definitely helped. Marching seems like it’s going to suck though, those things are heavy and moving around a lot doesn’t sound fun.”
Piper nodded. “It definitely takes some getting used to, but I can help you practice with that. Think you’ll get a spot?”
Percy pulled his beanie back on. “I dunno. That’s up to Thalia. I’m sure Jason will though.” He said, earning a punch in the arm from Piper.
Annabeth made her way over to Percy. “Good job today. You recovered nicely.” She offered
Percy blushed slightly. “Uh… yeah. I meant to say thank you. You helped for sure.”
Meanwhile Piper was looking between the two of them with a growing grin.
Annabeth smiled down at the floor before pushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
“Well I hope you make it. I wanna talk to Thalia before she leaves so I’m gonna go. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Percy nodded as Annabeth patted Piper on the shoulder and made her way over to Thalia.
Piper gave him the biggest grin.
“She helped you, eh?”
“Shut up McLean. She just reminded me to breathe.”
“Weird, I thought she took your breath away.” She countered, laughing at Percy’s groan as she started walking out of the room.
“How’d your auditions go?”
Piper grinned. “I nailed them. It helped I had practiced with Silena over the summer. I think I made it.”
Percy pulled her into a side hug. “That’s awesome! I’m proud of you.”
“When we both make it, we’ll go get pizza to celebrate. My treat. Deal?”
Grinning, Percy nodded. “I don’t think I’ll ever say no to that.”
As they piled into the car, Percy sighed looking out at the darkening sky.
“That was… honestly a lot of fun. More fun than I’ve had in awhile. Thank you Piper, for real. I really hope I can make it.”
Piper just gave him the warmest smile. “I’m proud of you. I know you’ll make it. Otherwise, I can take out whoever else made it and get you a spot.”
Percy laughed as they drove away. It felt like things were finally starting to click in place a little more.
XxXxXxXxX
Thank you for sticking through the chapter! I know it was a long one and kinda dense. I hope it was enjoyable though. And if it wasn’t obvious, I freaking love Thalia. She’s so badass. I hope you enjoyed her too! Thank you for all the engagement with this story, it really does motivate me, even if my time is starting to get limited due to being broke. xD Hopefully I wont have too long of a delay before the next chapter! Just need to plan a little more for it out.

Hey really liked the story you based on my prompt do you think you maybe can write a story about Percy introducing nico and Jason to his mortal friends If you can do this would please consider it
(I’m glad you liked it. And I guess you can consider yourself lucky there because making Paul send the picture to the friends did kinda make me wanna write Grover and everyone’s reaction too... so here you go. ;3)
Grover had his brows furrowed as he looked from his phone up at the two boys in front of him, right back down to the picture. Paul had sent it one week ago, on the night Jason Grace and Nico di Angelo had met the parents.
“Annabeth told me to grill you”, stated Grover seriously.
Jason made a face and tried to hide a little behind Percy. Annabeth had already scared him on camera when Nico and Jason had walked in on Percy and Annabeth’s weekly video-call. She had used the opportunity to very creatively threaten Jason and Nico. She scared him.
“But I’m not Annabeth and I’m just happy that Percy is happy”, continued Grover with a smile and pulled both Nico and Jason into a hug.
“I like this one more than the scary blonde”, muttered Jason softly.
“You’ll like Annie too, once she got used to you”, huffed Percy and rolled his eyes. “She just... comes off a little strong when you first meet her. Believe me, it was the same for me.”
“Oh yeah, same here”, agreed Grover. “She’s just naturally suspicious and intimidating. But she’s... a warmer shade of suspicious and intimidating when you get to know her.”
“How comforting”, mumbled Jason.
“Personally, I have the perfect plan of diverting attention away from us when we meet her”, offered Nico, looking at Jason from behind Grover’s back (still hugging. Nico was not a hugger).
“Really? You do? What?”, asked Percy curiously. “I wanna know so I know when to laugh when it happens and fails.”
Nico narrowed his eyes at his boyfriend and when the hug finally ended, he went to pinch Percy’s arm in retaliation. “I am inviting my sister along too.”
There was a moment of silence in which Grover looked very confused while Jason heaved a sigh and face-palmed. Percy started cackling delighted.
“Nico, babe. Just because they’re both lesbians doesn’t mean they will magically fall in love and Annabeth will forgive you everything based on you being her new girlfriend’s brother”, pointed Percy out amused.
Nico crossed his arms stubbornly. “It is the perfect plan and Bianca has my charms. It will work, Percy. Stop doubting me.”
At that, Grover started laughing a little too. “I mean, it’d be worth a try. Annabeth could use a girlfriend to distract her from overworking herself.”
“Grover. Stop hogging the newbies. We have a lot of interrogation to do”, interrupted Rachel from behind him.
Grover laughed sheepishly and stepped aside. Rachel, Juniper, Clarisse, Chris, Silena, Beckendorf and Luke were all gathered as they were throwing a little “welcome home” party for Percy, now that Grover and Juniper were back from their vacation too. They all stood in a circle, varying degrees of intimidating as they stared down at the two boys.
“You”, started Luke, poking his finger into Jason’s chest as he stood as tall as possible. “You’re lucky you’re Thalia’s baby-brother. So I can’t hurt you, or else she will hurt me, but do know that this one is like a brother to me and anyone who hurts him will have to answer to me.”
At ‘this one’, Luke pulled Percy close and ruffled his hair. Jason being Thalia’s little brother was actually how Percy had met his two boyfriends. He had never before met Thalia’s younger brother, always just heard of him, but when Thalia had gotten word that Percy was going to attend the same college as Jason, she told Percy to go and get to know Jason, to have someone to keep an eye on him. What Thalia hadn’t anticipated was the relationship that followed.
“I think you’re both very lovely”, stated Silena as she pushed Luke out of the way.
“I think that it’d be really easy to break their necks if they hurt the runt”, offered Clarisse next to her. “Really, just one snap and those little nerds would be goners.”
“I am not a nerd”, grunted Nico defiantly.
“Ba--abe, you collect cards and figures that go along with the cards”, pointed Percy out, pecking Nico’s cheek. “You’re a nerd.”
“I’m not one for threatening people”, stated Beckendorf slowly, deliberately laying one muscular arm around each of Percy’s boyfriends’ neck. “I’d never do that. Just like I hope you’d never hurt Percy, right?”
Nico swallowed hard as he tipped his head back to look up at the large man. “N... No. Would never do that. We love Percy very much, we’d never hurt him.”
“Good answer, pipsqueak”, praised Chris amused.
“I don’t know, Percy”, sighed Rachel dramatically as she draped herself half over Percy. “I personally think you really downgraded from me to... those.”
“Can’t everyone be as much a badass as you, Red”, grinned Percy, hugging her.
“I think they’re both relatively handsome, no Grover of course but oh well. And I also think they’ve been threatened enough for today”, declared Juniper, ushering everyone toward the set tables. “Beckendorf, if you’d do the honors.”
Beckendorf looked pleased as he got behind the grill, while the others went to check out the salads. Everybody had brought a salad and meat (or tofu, in Juniper’s case), for them all to celebrate together with a good, home-made barbecue.
The atmosphere relaxed when they started eating food and started trading stories - mostly everyone was giving the most embarrassing Percy stories they had, much to Jason and Nico’s delight.
After his second steak, Percy went inside to made some fresh lemonade and get maybe a little time alone. Being back home was slightly overwhelming, with everyone who knew and loved him crowding in to harrass his boyfriends.
“You know Paul told us about them, right”, drawled Grover as he entered the kitchen.
Percy turned to smile at his best friend for a moment before returning to the task at hand. Grover came to join him and help with the lemonade, both looking out the window into Beckendorf’s garden where everyone was still eating.
“Yeah and he told you all to threaten them because they’re not good enough or something like that”, sighed Percy.
“Actually, no”, chuckled Grover. “I mean, the threatening was more on Poseidon than Paul. And Paul... gave his seal of approval.”
“He did?”, asked Percy surprised, looking at Grover.
Grover chuckled and nudged Percy. “C’mon. Paul just wants you to be happy and he saw the same thing I did out there. He saw just how happy they make you. You smile more with them than I’ve seen in... a while. They seem like good people.”
“They are. I mean, I don’t think they’d endure this torture if they weren’t”, huffed Percy and ducked his head.
Grover offered him an amused smile and after they finished the lemonade, they went back outside to join the others again. Percy gladly sat down between Jason and Nico, kissing both his boyfriends on the cheek.
“You know, you did good”, noted Rachel proudly. “Nearly no quivering. No running off. Good on you. The threat-level has been exponentially rising ever since I was dating him.”
“We’ll only see just how much they mean it after they face the final boss and still stick around”, declared Chris casually.
“The... final boss?”, asked Jason slowly. “You mean Annabeth?”
“We mean the boss. The mob boss”, countered Luke with a smirk. “Poseidon.”
“...You said your dad was joking about your other dad”, grunted Nico dryly.
Percy laughed sheepishly, trying to kiss Nico again to distract him. “Come on, it won’t be that bad. He usually doesn’t kill my exes.”
“Usually?!”, squeaked Jason. “What does Usually mean?!”
“Jackson. Jackson, answer him”, demanded Nico.

Tumblr media
Hello!
I’m Aelin, one of the main admins on this Tumblr.
On this account, you can expect a lot of book/arc/beta reviews, images, the not-so-occasional meme, likely a ton of reblogs, and more.
I guess I’ll just do a classic get-to-know-me sort thing because I’m awkward and don’t know what else to do. Sooo.... Here are 15 facts about me:
1. Aelin from Throne of Glass is one of my all time favorite characters (if you couldn’t tell by the name I chose) along with Annabeth Chase (PJO), Feyre (ACOTAR), Luna Lovegood (HP), Six (I am Number Four), and many others.
2. I am a huge sci-fi nerd and love everything related to it, so naturally, I love Pittacus Lore’s ‘I Am Number Four’ and ‘Dark Matter.’
3. A few of my favorite shows include (but are not limited to): Agatha Christie’s Poirot, Sherlock, Doctor Who, The Office, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Friends, Halt and Catch Fire, Game of Thrones, and Parks and Rec.
4. I’m Taiwanese. (Woop woop!)
5. I love photography, but I suck at it.  Though, I am pretty proud of this picture I took (and a few of which are on our instagram account @diesel.bookoholics).
6. I am the proud queen of ‘that’s what she said’ jokes, ask literally anyone.
7. Videogames, books, movies, and TV shows run my life.
8. I gotta lil chub named Rudolf (he’s a cat, and I’m the only one allowed to make fun of him).
9. If I could have any superpower it would be the elements.  If I could only control one element, probably wind or water, because flying is the coolest and it would be cool to be like Percy Jackson (funny, because I’m a daughter of Hades).
10. I suck at being a human, especially on land.  I am the least coordinated person you will ever meet.  The only time I can be remotely graceful is in water.  I can swim, surf, ice skate, etc. but I still can’t figure out how to walk without tripping myself.
11. I’m a Libra who is super into astronomy, the universe, horoscopes, and deep stuff like that.  (Hear that? I’m deep.)  (That’s what she said.)
12. I pride myself of being loyal to my friends.  I will fight anyone for them and if anyone hurts them, you know I’ll find a way to kill them.  I got their back as much as they have mine, and I don’t know what I would do without them.
13. I am demisexual and proud. :)
(Though, I don’t really tell people irl.  I’m doing the weird I’m not hiding, but I’m not telling sort thing.  I’m basically doing the ‘Jessica Jones.’)
14. I’m an ambivert for the most part, though I lean toward the introverted side.
15. I’m kind of an odd Slytherin.  No one ever sees me coming ;P
(also: that’s what she said.  I know, I’m gross.  I said it to myself, get used to it.  I do it a lot and I am fully aware of it’s annoying-ness.)
Alright, I guess that pretty much sums me up.  The others should post soon, but until then, have a nice day! ;)

A crazy idea
A caleo Fanfiction
Piper tapped her foot impaitently, “Leo for the love of the gods, would you please sit still?”
Sit still? Ha, thats funny. Thats the last thing I could do right now, how could I sit still? It was happening, it was really happening. I finally got someone to go out with me, she is literally preparing right now to go on a date with me? The disgusting Leo Valdez, am I dreaming?
I stop pacing on Piper’s floor, “Okay, I-I’ll try.”
Piper then giggled and approached me; straightened up my clothes she was smiling the whole time. I was wearing a dress shirt with black jeans, dress shoes to match my pants. I looked as good as Piper can make me, the rest is up to me.
Gods thats the most frightening thought ever.
“Leo are you gonna combust into flames again ?”
“I have no idea Piper, H-How did this happen?”
Piper then grinned, “You don’t remember?”
“No! I-”
“Too bad I’m reminding you anyway,”
Gods please save me.
[Piper’s pov]
it happened again, Leo was being harassed by Drew again. Ever since Jason picked me over her she took out her frustration out of the repair boy.
“Go fetch me my makeup!”
“I’m in the middle of-”
“Is this an act of defiance?” Drew growled.
Leo gulped, poor boy; Drew scared the crap out of him. However Leo is an angel who scares way too easily. Pretty sure outside of Gaia he can’t hurt a fly.
And right on time....
“Hey Valdez.” Greeted Calypso Atlas
Ever since Leo rescued the titan blood from that island Calypso has been skirting around the fact that she’s madly in love with Leo. Of course I was going to tell him but she begged; i mean she literally offered me anything I want. I gave up and told her to just make my salads. Of course I suddenly had a case of ‘not hungry’ So Cal was gonna witness just how cruel Drew can be to her crush. You could just see Leo’s nervousness spiked. He knew deep down Calypso cared for him. He just.... didn’t know how much.
“H-Hey Sunshine.”
Calypso eyebrow shot up, “whats wrong? Why are you nervous?”
“How long are you gonna stand there? Go fetch what i want!” Drew snapped.
“Wait a freaking minute! Don’t yell at him!” Calypso got in front of Leo; both Drew and Calypso glaring at each other. I’m willing to bet 30 dollars Leo felt like a rat.
“Look Titan witch, He always does what i want.”
Calypso looked back at Leo, “Is that true?”
Leo nodded.
“So whats the-”
“The issue is that I’m going to beat you into next week if you don’t stop it! Leo does what you want no more!”
“Why you little-”
Calypso then punched Drew in the gut knocking her back; Leo nearly died and I shouted to ‘kick her while she’s down’
“You... BITCH!! You just hit me! I”ll kill you!”
“You have to stop picking on the weak first.” Calypso snapped.
“Someone needs to-”
“ENOUGH” Chorin snapped riding in to defuse the situation, “Titan Blood, don’t hit others. Drew, stop bullying Leo. I told you to stop that. Also Drew go get Annabeth for me. Since you started this. Get moving.”
Drew knew better then it argue with Chorin so she obeyed; Chorin then glared at Calypso and galloped away. Leo looked so sympathetic. Calypso just stood there, grinning.
“That.... was satisfying.” “Satisfying??” Leo asked perplexed, “You could of gotten expelled from camp!”
“W-Well.... maybe next time she’ll learn to be nice.” The titan blood mumbled; only now feeling shame. cheeks red. I thought Annabeth’s love life was interesting.
“Are you okay sunshin-”
“Um.... so.... i don’t.... have any plans tonight.”
Leo had the most odd look on his face; can he really be that dense?
“So.... if..... you....”
“If i wha-”
“I’m asking you out on a date you flame bursting nerd!”
Leo gasped; now his face was blood red. They looked like tomatoes. Where is my camera when I need it?
“Um... I-I’ll pick you up at six tonight.”
“I-I’ll be ready.”
The titan blood walked away; Leo looked like he was gonna fall into the void.
“I saw that.” I grinned
Leo nearly jumped out of his skin; then sighed, “Pipes.... i need help.”
“That.... i have no doubt.”
[Leo’s pov]
“Wait.... you planned that??” I asked.
“Okay, so ‘plan’ might be too strong of a word. I just wanted to see her kick the crap out of Drew. But hey.... it worked out in the end. You got a date.”
“Piper, I’m gonna mess this up I’m gonna-”
My friend placed her finger in my lips silencing me.
“Leo, slow deep breathes. You’re gonna be fine. You’re a sweet kind person who deserves the world. Now get moving”
and with that Piper shoved me out the door.
Okay, Pipes is right. I can do this, after all; I’m a bad boy! And the ladies love a bad boy, right? This is gonna go great, she’ll be swoon and confess her undying love for me. and-
Focus worm! shouted my brain
Snapping back; i smirked. I got this, I can do this. I approached Calypso’s apartment, I think Percy bought it for her. Kinda odd since Her and Percy had a falling out.
I knocked on the door; at first nothing but then...
“Just a minute!”
I waited and then heard footsteps when the door opened i nearly died. There stood the great Atlas general, wearing the most beautiful red dress Leo had ever saw. Red lipstick and she smelled like roses. Her hair was kept down and due to a hair cut it was short; Her golden eyes showed hints of nervousness and her face was slightly red.
“H-Hello Leo.”
“Beautiful- I mean, hello Calypso.”
My heart was racing so much that I forgot to call her my pet name for her. Please for the love of the all the gods, please don’t combust into flames. Please don’t combust please don’t-
But right as rain the flames erupted from my body; Calypso yelped out and i felt like dying.
Luckily for me, the flames died quickly; and sunshine just watched me, grinning. What was she grinning for? Isn’t this the part where she slams the door in my face and tells me to go to Hades? Why must I be such a fool?
“You know.... you’re so cute Leo.”
I gasped, “Cute?”
“I’ve never had a boyfriend that busts into flames when they see me.”
“Most girls just get scared.”
“Why don’t we finish this inside, I have great food prepared.”
I’m not going to say no to that; I come inside and I realize just how resourceful sunshine is; this may be just an apartment but it doesn't feel like one. Trophies of random monsters litter the walls; some plaques are under some of the monster heads. Something told me those were quotes from her dad. The room smells of roses and I notice the little garden in the back of the room. A lamp that I just know produces synthetic sunlight is above them. The kitchen has a lot of smells, I see the tacos and burritos. Did she actually do research on what I like. I never told her that I love those kind of foods.
“Take a seat anywhere you want.” Calypso says.
I decide to take the head of the kitchen table.
“Looking to be the man of my house?” Sunshine smirked.
My heart skipped a beat, “N-No, I-”
Sunshine then started laughing, “Relax, I’m kidding. You’re such a dork.”
“Yea.” I grinned face still red.
Sunshine sat across from me; her table was kinda small.  Made of maple wood, I can detect a slight scent of the wood. We both dig in to our food. It took me a while but I noticed that sunshine kept glancing at me. she was eating her food, but once that was done her eyes kept dancing.
“is everything-”
“Where are we Leo?”
“Huh?”
“Us, where are we?”
That was an interesting question; i had no idea. I mean, i wanted to be with her. In my head I had some map of getting her to marry me and us having kids; or something typical like that. But.... is that what she wants. I’ve always gotten the feeling she doesn't see me the way other girls do. To be honest, she reminds me a lot of how Annabeth looks at Percy. Is that how she really sees me? I guess we should of had this talk sooner.
“I really want you sunshine.”
That remark made her blush; she looked down. Like she wanted to say something.
“I want you too. But....”
“But?”
“I don’t want you to have pity on me. I want to know that deep down you actually want me. Calypso Atlas. The daughter of one of the most evilest beings to ever exist. I..... “
Calypso placed her hand on mine; i felt my whole hand feel warm. My heart skipped several beats and my brain felt like i was ascending to Elysium.
“I want you to love for me.”
“I never said that i didn’t, Sunshine, i really do want you. Calypso..... I love you.”
Welp, I said it. Sunshine looked down though it didn’t hide her face. nor her grinning. However, a sad revelation seem to take her over.
“That would mean.... you would have to wait for me to gain my powers back. that would mean finishing college.”
“I can wait sunshine.”
Sunshine then giggled, “Of course you would. Piper was right about you.”
“Huh?” I asked puzzeled.
“Um.... I love you Leo. And everyone but you knows this. Piper found out first, i made her promise she woulden’t tell you. But she told me you would have no issue waiting for me. Please Leo.... don’t forget bout me.”
I flashed a grin, “I won’t, I promise.”
We eat our food, blushing and grinning at each other. at times she grabbed my hand and kissed it. Every time she did my heart skipped a beat. We finally finished and it was time for me to leave. Sunshine lead me to the door.
“Thank you Leo.”
“You’re welc-”
Before I could finish she pushed me in, pinned me to the wall and kissed me passionately. I was confused, and when she deepened the kiss I couldn't help but moan; closing my eyes. The kiss ended as brutally as it began she pushed me out and told me goodbye.
My head was in a daze; the taste of her lipstick still lingered on my lips. She’s the one, shes the one I want to spent the rest of my life with. Don’t worry sunshine, I’ll wait as long as it takes.
