#ok i think some people are misinterpreting this. so: this is about the OFFICIAL archie sonic artists #not fanartists. though im sure my complaints in this post can apply to a lot of fanart too #and this also wasnt about characters not being drawn perfectly on model it was about certain characters being drawn weirdly sexualized #ok original tags:#just saw some really bad panels oh my GOD #i hate how some of the artists would draw the girls like oversexualized human women with sonic character heads #especially when they drew all of the boys and even some of the girls normally so they clearly knew how to draw sonic characters #and its not like the characters who were often drawn weirdly always looked like that either #if you go back to the earliest issues sally and bunnie just looked like cute little cartoon animals #not whatever the hell these other artists were doing

today's progress: i think i'm done with the face

#i made decent progress on the torso but i couldn't manage to figure out the shirt so. yea.#the clothes are such a headache #i don't even know if i want to finish this anymore lol #i think in general i'll probably stick to a more cute/cartoon-y style but #i do like the way the skin is shaded in this #maybe if i could find a way to simplify it #i could make it work in my usual style but idk #i'll just have to experiment more #but for now i think i'm burnt on drawing #it was a good four day run. that's more than i've drawn all year #still gonna finish the ones of other people's OCs though #those are just faces/busts so those are easy #this drawing though........ to the forever wip pile it goes until i can figure out how clothes work #rainyrambles #artwip

It was so cute how excited the cupbros were to see each other again. Like they were so happy they squealed. Twice.

Also, it was nice to see some genuine apologies and gratitude after a handful of episodes with the brothers at each other’s throats.

When comedies are done well, the more serious or sentimental moments feel all the more emotional because they stand out. And I definitely feel like that’s the case here — throughout a lot of this episode, really.

Anyway, I care bout them. little scrunklies

#idk they’re cute and their bond w chalice is really cute too #i loved all the hugs and wholesomeness in these batch of episodes #the cuphead show #cuphead #mugman #ik some ppl didn’t like how this ep ended w a gag #but i don’t feel like it cheapened anything. maybe cause that’s what i expected to happen? lol #it’s a silly show. you’re not supposed to take everything that happens seriously #i didn’t go into this show expecting to really care about these characters beyond the comedy they provide #so I’m pleasantly surprised every time it manages to tug on my heart strings a bit #cartoons exaggerate a lot. they take that ‘I’m so angry i could strangle you’ feeling and make it literal #but even though the cupbros have attempted to like violently injure each other #w cartoon violence #i never once doubt that they love each other #i never feel like they don’t #so you know like kudos to the team for pulling that off and making me care about these characters beyond their wacky jokes #ig is what I’m saying

as a Porky Fanatic i’ve always loved just about every classic iteration of his character, but the more i analyze and comb through these cartoons i find myself becoming more and more enamored with Clampett’s approach: blundering and oblivious, but incredibly endearing and charming whose humor is largely (and anomalously) derivative from his sincerity.

this particular clip is such a perfect combination of embracing that sort of sincerity and almost encouraging it, but also poking polite fun at how eccentric and comically naïve he is (as reflected through the dog’s very succinct commentary.) only Porky would find it acceptable to breathlessly explain his life’s story to some random dog he found then feeling the need to politely excuse himself and leave with absolutely no warning, and that in itself is just as funny as any other visual gag or screwball escapade. a-ma-zing!

#i posted this back in 2019 and went to reblog it with the above thoughts but the tags were so long winded i just made a new post for it #the curse of getting access to better prints and being more articulate outside of 'THIS IS CUTE he is silly'#i really do miss this sort of sincerity in the filmmaking though as much as i love some of the more cynical cartoons and realize how they're #able to capitalize on their individual strengths to maybe a greater degree #i think you can have your characters be earnest and poke fun at their genuineness without being callous about it (or at least direct said #callous approach to characters who aren't as sympathetic in nature and work well with that sort of humor)#i say this while adoring the McKimson/early Jones approach of having Porky seen as a ruthless antagonist LOL. Freleng too to a degree #sincere doesn't equal boring you just have to sometimes dig a little further to find the humor and honestly i feel that makes it so much #more rewarding and why i love Porky as much as i do he's the only character who makes me laugh purely without doing anything on purpose #and if you've made it this far:this is animated by Bobe Cannon #lt #wise quacks #clampett #vid
